- 1:42Speaker 1: the radio replays from Sunday's Bengals Patriots game at pay
- 1:46Speaker 1: Course Stadium. It is a bright and sunny late November
- 1:51Speaker 1: day here in downtown Cincinnati as the Bengals look to
- 1:54Speaker 1: knock off one of the NFL's hottest teams, the New
- 1:56Speaker 1: England Patriots, who come to town with a nine and
- 1:59Speaker 1: two record and an eight game winning streak. And it
- 2:04Speaker 1: is time for the pig skin to fly here in
- 2:07Speaker 1: the jungle. This will be a fifty four yard try.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Moneymack just one for four from fifty plus this year,
- 2:14Speaker 1: but for his career he's made sixty seven percent from
- 2:18Speaker 1: beyond fifty yards. The snap is perfect, the kick is
- 2:21Speaker 1: on its way, it has the distance, and it is
- 2:25Speaker 1: good nice, And the Bengals score on their opening drive.
- 2:29Speaker 1: They started at their own nine yard line and moved
- 2:33Speaker 1: it enough for Moneymack to drill a field goal from
- 2:36Speaker 1: fifty four yards out. It is three to nothing Cincinnati.
- 2:40Speaker 1: On second down. May throws and it's intercepted by Gino
- 2:44Speaker 1: Stone running it back to the twenty far sideline. Fifteen
- 2:47Speaker 1: ten five touchdown Chino Stone and the Bengals. First and
- 2:53Speaker 1: ten from the Bengals twenty eight. May to throw under pressure,
- 2:58Speaker 1: fires downfield, nobody near Hunter Henry. He catches at the
- 3:02Speaker 1: ten and runs into the end zone for a Patriots touchdown.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Second and five Bengals at their own thirty six. Tightly
- 3:10Speaker 1: clustered formation for Cincinnati. Flacco fakes a hand off the
- 3:13Speaker 1: Tizz Brooks Pump fakes Bros picked off.
- 3:17Speaker 2: It's going to be a pick six.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Atrocious decision by veteran quarterback Joe Flacco, and Marcus Jones
- 3:23Speaker 1: picks it off and runs it into the end zone.
- 3:26Speaker 1: It is second career pick six for Marcus Jones, both
- 3:30Speaker 1: of them against Cincinnati. There have been three attempts in
- 3:34Speaker 1: franchise history of sixty plus. Moneymack missed from sixty seven.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Doug Pelfrey missed from sixty three. Shane Graham missed from
- 3:43Speaker 1: sixty two. This will be a sixty three yard try
- 3:46Speaker 1: as Evan McPherson tries to join the club of NFL
- 3:50Speaker 1: kickers who have made kicks from beyond sixty yards. Ryan
- 3:55Speaker 1: Rico on the Bengals logo, waiting for the snap from
- 3:58Speaker 1: Will Wagner. Snap is good. Here comes the kick. Loft
- 4:02Speaker 1: it high in the air, bendoverend kick, Yes good nice.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Evan McPherson makes Bengals history with a sixty three yard
- 4:14Speaker 1: field goal, and Cincinnati scores at the gun in the
- 4:19Speaker 1: second quarter to pull within four. Fourth and goal from
- 4:23Speaker 1: the one. Bengals gotta stop under these circumstances a little
- 4:27Speaker 1: while ago, but pass interference on Dax Hill gave the
- 4:31Speaker 1: Patriots another chance. May in the gun Stevenson to is right,
- 4:35Speaker 1: May hands it off.
- 4:37Speaker 3: Stevenson hits no and stop.
- 4:40Speaker 1: He did not get in real What a goal line stand.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Chino Stone getting too Ramandre Stevenson. The Bengals get two
- 4:51Speaker 1: stops on fourth and goal from the one, and this
- 4:54Speaker 1: time it counts. This will be the shortest possible field goal, right,
- 5:00Speaker 1: a nineteen yarder for Bori Gallis trying to give the
- 5:04Speaker 1: Patriots a ten point leave the snap the swing of
- 5:06Speaker 1: the right leg and the kick is good, and the
- 5:09Speaker 1: Patriots have a twenty three to thirteen lead with five
- 5:13Speaker 1: minutes and fifty five seconds to go. Flaccough, looking to
- 5:17Speaker 1: throw fires for the end zone, got hand, it is
- 5:20Speaker 1: caught by Mitch Tinsley, a touchdown on a gorgeous over
- 5:26Speaker 1: the shoulder throw, Mitch Tinsley beating Christian Gonzalez and Flacco
- 5:32Speaker 1: dropped it right in the basket for the touchdown.
- 5:35Speaker 4: Or you're right, Dan, gorgeous is a great call, in
- 5:38Speaker 4: perfect description for that throw. I mean he got just
- 5:42Speaker 4: the right distance and more importantly, just the right height
- 5:46Speaker 4: and the ball came straight down. Not bad coverage, I
- 5:49Speaker 4: mean decent coverage, but the throw was too perfect that
- 5:53Speaker 4: he couldn't do anything about it.
- 5:54Speaker 1: The Bengals have converted fourth and eight. Now they will
- 5:56Speaker 1: try to convert on fourth and ten. They have it
- 5:59Speaker 1: at the twenty only twenty three seconds to go. Flaco
- 6:03Speaker 1: catches the shotgun snap Blitz coming throws before getting hit
- 6:06Speaker 1: and it's broken up incomplete at the nine yard line.
- 6:11Speaker 1: No penalty flag on the field. Marcus Jones with the breakup,
- 6:15Speaker 1: and the Patriots winning streak is going to be extended
- 6:19Speaker 1: to nine game. The final score the Patriots twenty six
- 6:23Speaker 1: the Bengals twenty After the game, I spoke to players
- 6:27Speaker 1: on offense, defense, and special teams. Let's start on offense.
- 6:31Speaker 1: It was a tough game for Joe Flacco, who completed
- 6:34Speaker 1: fifty one percent of his passes for one hundred and
- 6:37Speaker 1: eighty three yards with a touchdown and a pick six.
- 6:41Speaker 1: But he didn't have Jamar Chase to throw to, and
- 6:44Speaker 1: with five minutes to go, Tee Higgins left the game
- 6:47Speaker 1: with a concussion. Flacco also missed a play when he
- 6:51Speaker 1: dislocated a finger on his throwing hand, but he kept battling,
- 6:55Speaker 1: throwing a touchdown pass to Mitch Tinsley with four forty
- 6:58Speaker 1: to go that made it a three point game. I
- 7:02Speaker 1: talked to Tinsley in front of his locker.
- 7:05Speaker 3: We're in the locker room.
- 7:06Speaker 1: You betch Tinsley, you had a touchdown catch today, an
- 7:08Speaker 1: opportunity there there late in the game to potentially pull
- 7:11Speaker 1: it out. Unfortunately, you guys couldn't quite score that game
- 7:14Speaker 1: winning touchdown. But what did you think of the offensive
- 7:18Speaker 1: performance late in the game and at least making it
- 7:21Speaker 1: a possible come from behind wind.
- 7:23Speaker 5: I feel like We did a good job fighting, trying
- 7:26Speaker 5: to take advantage our opportunities when we were out there.
- 7:28Speaker 5: You know, some guys went down, and you know, some
- 7:30Speaker 5: guys stepped up, and I think, you know, we just
- 7:33Speaker 5: try to fight.
- 7:33Speaker 3: Today.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Your touchdown pass was the first that Christian Gonzalez.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Is allowed all year.
- 7:38Speaker 1: It looked like a perfect throw from Joe. Flacco, described
- 7:42Speaker 1: the route, described the play.
- 7:44Speaker 5: Oh, it was a man coverage and you know, because
- 7:47Speaker 5: that was a great player, but you know.
- 7:49Speaker 3: I've seen him.
- 7:50Speaker 5: I gave him a great release stacked on them.
- 7:52Speaker 3: You know, I just looked the.
- 7:53Speaker 5: Ball and Joe put it right right there while I
- 7:54Speaker 5: needed to, and you know, I just made a play.
- 7:57Speaker 1: You guys didn't have Jamar for the entire game. It
- 7:59Speaker 1: didn't have Tea late. How did that affect you and Andre
- 8:03Speaker 1: and some of the other guys trying to you know,
- 8:07Speaker 1: take up for that absence and make plays down the stretch.
- 8:10Speaker 5: I mean, I feel like all of us has just
- 8:12Speaker 5: tried to do a good job of, you know, approaching
- 8:14Speaker 5: every single day in practice and you know, just every
- 8:16Speaker 5: just everyday mentality like where the starters. So I I think,
- 8:20Speaker 5: you know, we had to go in knowing that with
- 8:22Speaker 5: the confidence knowing that we can make plays, uh, you know,
- 8:24Speaker 5: when our numbers called, and just being ready for the opportunity.
- 8:27Speaker 1: I mentioned the touchdown catch. How about the the catch
- 8:30Speaker 1: on fourth down late in the game. I'm not sure
- 8:33Speaker 1: how you caught that. It looked like went right through
- 8:35Speaker 1: the defensive back's hands and you somethholp up the found
- 8:37Speaker 1: the ball and state in balance.
- 8:39Speaker 5: Yeah, it was just Uh that was just a focused then, honestly,
- 8:42Speaker 5: cause uh, I wasn't sure if he was gonna get
- 8:44Speaker 5: high enough or anything to you know, to get hand
- 8:46Speaker 5: on it. And then when I see him go through
- 8:47Speaker 5: his hands, kind of a reaction to everything, cause where
- 8:49Speaker 5: I thought the ball was gonna go and where it
- 8:51Speaker 5: actually ended up.
- 8:52Speaker 3: You know, I just had to react to it.
- 8:53Speaker 5: But uh, yeah it.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Was and I just try to make a play. Mitchell,
- 8:57Speaker 1: Are you encouraged by what the defense is doing. It's
- 8:59Speaker 1: too weeks now where the defense at least has given
- 9:02Speaker 1: up twenty or fewer points to the other team's offense.
- 9:05Speaker 5: I have full confidence in our defense, you know. I
- 9:07Speaker 5: feel like they grind, they go hard every single day.
- 9:10Speaker 1: You know, they have a.
- 9:10Speaker 5: Great mentality, the way they proach practice every single week,
- 9:14Speaker 5: and you know, I think it's showing out there this week,
- 9:15Speaker 5: so last week. So I mean, I know they're gonna
- 9:18Speaker 5: continue to do with what they've been doing, and you know,
- 9:21Speaker 5: just go go on to the next.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Mitch finished with two catches for twenty nine yards. Andre
- 9:27Speaker 1: Yosi Vas led the Bengals in receiving yards with sixty one.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Chase Brown had another big day, carrying nineteen times for
- 9:34Speaker 1: one hundred and seven yards and added twenty three receiving
- 9:38Speaker 1: yards on two catches. That's one hundred and thirty scrimmage yards,
- 9:42Speaker 1: the fifth straight game that Chase Brown is topped one hundred.
- 9:46Speaker 1: On defense, the Bengals were good against the run, holding
- 9:49Speaker 1: the Patriots to three point five yards of carry, but
- 9:52Speaker 1: they struggled to cover tight end Hunter Henry. He finished
- 9:56Speaker 1: with seven catches for a career high one hundred fifteen yards. Still,
- 10:02Speaker 1: the Patriots only scored one offensive touchdown, getting the rest
- 10:06Speaker 1: of their points on four field goals and a pick six.
- 10:10Speaker 1: With Cam Taylor Brett going on the injured list this week,
- 10:13Speaker 1: Jalen Davis was promoted from the practice squad and jumped
- 10:16Speaker 1: right into the starting lineup at slot corner. He had
- 10:19Speaker 1: the Bengals only sack and definitely contributed as a run stopper.
- 10:24Speaker 1: It's Jalen's sixth year with the Bengals, but it was
- 10:27Speaker 1: the first time he's played this season. Jalen, you moved
- 10:30Speaker 1: into the starting lineup today. I thought you played a
- 10:32Speaker 1: great game. How did you feel about your performance?
- 10:35Speaker 6: I feel like I played good, but you know, things
- 10:37Speaker 6: feel a lot better when you win, So yeah, I
- 10:40Speaker 6: played good, but we gotta go back to thed onboard
- 10:43Speaker 6: get better.
- 10:43Speaker 1: On Thursday night, let's talk about what the defense did well.
- 10:46Speaker 1: You held their offense to nineteen points. They scored a
- 10:49Speaker 1: defensive touchdown. That's two weeks in a row now where
- 10:51Speaker 1: it's been twenty or less. Do you see significant progress
- 10:55Speaker 1: on the defensive side.
- 10:56Speaker 3: Of the ball. I feel like we've been actually getting better.
- 10:59Speaker 3: Every every week we make getting better.
- 11:01Speaker 6: But like I said, we still gotta so much more
- 11:03Speaker 6: to improve. So we all just gotta, like I said,
- 11:05Speaker 6: get back to the d on board, look all the mistakes,
- 11:09Speaker 6: and just get better.
- 11:09Speaker 1: It seemed like the one thing the Patriots did that
- 11:12Speaker 1: hurts you guys was find their tight ends over the
- 11:15Speaker 1: middle of the field. Anything stand out from your perspective
- 11:18Speaker 1: on those.
- 11:18Speaker 6: Plays, not that I can say right now. I just
- 11:22Speaker 6: had to look at the film again and then go
- 11:24Speaker 6: from there.
- 11:25Speaker 1: I gotta pick six defensive score from Geno Stone and
- 11:28Speaker 1: gave the team a ten to nothing lead. What was
- 11:30Speaker 1: your view of that play?
- 11:32Speaker 4: Oh?
- 11:32Speaker 3: It was turned up.
- 11:33Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Boy, gotta pick six.
- 11:35Speaker 6: It's none better than that. But like I said, we
- 11:37Speaker 6: gotta keep their foot on the next and don't let
- 11:39Speaker 6: them in the next level.
- 11:40Speaker 3: Time.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Guys gotta stop late in the game to give the
- 11:44Speaker 1: offense a chance to pull it out. I mean, the
- 11:46Speaker 1: Patriots did score three, but they weren't able to score
- 11:49Speaker 1: a touchdown to pull away. Is that progress because there
- 11:52Speaker 1: have been some games this year where you needed to
- 11:54Speaker 1: get that stop late and couldn't quite do it.
- 11:57Speaker 6: Prodst for sure, but that's not the standard that does
- 12:00Speaker 6: not even give him three. So, like I said, you
- 12:02Speaker 6: got to go back to the dram more.
- 12:04Speaker 3: Just get better, get better.
- 12:06Speaker 1: How much did you enjoy having this opportunity today?
- 12:10Speaker 5: I meant everything so mean, man, I ain't been out
- 12:12Speaker 5: there in a very long time, so I just appreciate
- 12:15Speaker 5: my brother's always holding me down.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Yeah, Jalen, congrats on a great game.
- 12:19Speaker 3: Appreciate it.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Bengals leading tackler was rookie linebacker Barrett Carter with sixteen
- 12:25Speaker 1: Gino Stone had thirteen tackles and his second career picked
- 12:30Speaker 1: six on special teams. It was quite a day for
- 12:33Speaker 1: Evan McPherson, who kicked a fifty four yard field goal
- 12:36Speaker 1: in the first quarter and a team record sixty three
- 12:39Speaker 1: yarder in the second. Evan shared the old record of
- 12:43Speaker 1: fifty nine yards with Cade York. Kevin McPherson made team
- 12:48Speaker 1: history today with a sixty three yard field goal. It
- 12:51Speaker 1: was the exact set of circumstances that you've talked about
- 12:54Speaker 1: before for getting an opportunity like that final play of
- 12:57Speaker 1: the half sixty plus rip from sixty three.
- 13:01Speaker 7: Yeah, you know, I felt like I felt like we
- 13:03Speaker 7: had a good chance to get a shot there at
- 13:05Speaker 7: the end of the half. And you never You're never
- 13:08Speaker 7: out of it. And that's kind of what I learned
- 13:09Speaker 7: throughout the years is never take time off and never
- 13:14Speaker 7: let your mind wander, because in a blink of an
- 13:17Speaker 7: eye you can be thrown out there for a long
- 13:19Speaker 7: field goal at the end of the half. And so
- 13:21Speaker 7: I think we did a good job stand in the
- 13:23Speaker 7: game and not just flicking forward to halftime, and we
- 13:26Speaker 7: executed really well snaphol kick, everybody blocked really well.
- 13:30Speaker 3: And yeah, you know, it's.
- 13:32Speaker 7: Just a lot of fun to get to go out
- 13:33Speaker 7: there and a tempt those and I'm just really happy
- 13:36Speaker 7: that this one worked out for us.
- 13:37Speaker 1: There aren't that many members of the sixty yard club
- 13:40Speaker 1: in the NFL. Maybe a couple does, and I don't know,
- 13:43Speaker 1: but it's not a huge list. How significant is it
- 13:46Speaker 1: to have that one extra yard from your previous long
- 13:49Speaker 1: of fifty nine.
- 13:49Speaker 7: Yeah, you know, I've always thought about it. It would
- 13:52Speaker 7: be cool to get one on the other side of
- 13:54Speaker 7: the field one day, And you know, I'm just blessed
- 13:57Speaker 7: to be putting that situation, that opportunity. The coaches trust
- 14:00Speaker 7: me to go out there and make it, and I'm
- 14:03Speaker 7: just glad that, you know, they have that trust in me.
- 14:06Speaker 1: A little extra special after the sixty seven yard er
- 14:09Speaker 1: that was good but didn't count at Green Bay.
- 14:12Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, you know, I always enjoy like I feel
- 14:15Speaker 7: like my rookie yar, I enjoyed the fifty plus attempts
- 14:18Speaker 7: and now it's kind of switched to like, sixty plus
- 14:21Speaker 7: is a lot of fun. Just go out there and
- 14:22Speaker 7: swing away and kind of see what happens. And I
- 14:25Speaker 7: feel like when we go out there, we're looked at
- 14:29Speaker 7: to make those kicks, and so, you know, I felt
- 14:32Speaker 7: confident going into it, and with how we've been hitting
- 14:35Speaker 7: it in practice and the operation and everything's going. So
- 14:39Speaker 7: it felt good running out of the field for that one.
- 14:41Speaker 1: The NFL record is sixty eight. Now, yeah, how long
- 14:44Speaker 1: would that have been good from? But the way you
- 14:46Speaker 1: struck that ball.
- 14:47Speaker 7: Man we needed the track man and how they used
- 14:51Speaker 7: to have to set up good from, I'm not sure.
- 14:54Speaker 7: I think maybe cut another five on it or so.
- 15:00Speaker 7: It's hard to really tell, but i'd say maybe.
- 15:03Speaker 3: Not another five.
- 15:05Speaker 1: I think you're right.
- 15:05Speaker 3: Congrats on the record, Thank you.
- 15:08Speaker 1: The loss drop the Bengals to three and eight. They're
- 15:11Speaker 1: three back in the AFC North with six to go,
- 15:13Speaker 1: and there's now a tie for first place in the division.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Since the Ravens won and the Steelers lost, Baltimore and
- 15:20Speaker 1: Pittsburgh are six and five. Now, time for my conversation
- 15:24Speaker 1: with head coach Zach Taylor. Zach, the defense allowed nineteen
- 15:30Speaker 1: points today, it was twenty last week. What progress do
- 15:33Speaker 1: you see on that side of the.
- 15:34Speaker 8: Ball they're finding rhythm, you know, it's they're believing in
- 15:39Speaker 8: each other, what we're doing, finding ways to get stops.
- 15:41Speaker 8: Guys are stepping up and making plays. I've loved the
- 15:43Speaker 8: communication from that group, and they're starting to get more
- 15:46Speaker 8: and more confidence.
- 15:47Speaker 3: You know.
- 15:47Speaker 2: That's just that's how the world works. To have some success,
- 15:49Speaker 2: you get more confidence.
- 15:51Speaker 8: There's a lot of things today I think that'll continue
- 15:53Speaker 8: to build towards that as well, and which we'll build on.
- 15:57Speaker 2: That moving forward.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Jalen Davis has been part of this team for most
- 16:00Speaker 1: of your tenure. He got an opportunity to play extended
- 16:03Speaker 1: snaps today and I thought he played, well, what did
- 16:05Speaker 1: you think of Jayleen?
- 16:06Speaker 8: He's not afraid to go make a play, you know,
- 16:07Speaker 8: and that's what you saw. He went after him, got
- 16:10Speaker 8: a sack, did a great job fitting in the big
- 16:13Speaker 8: gaff and getting a holding penalty one time that set
- 16:15Speaker 8: him back, and so you just you see things. He's
- 16:17Speaker 8: a competitor, he's got a high football a Q. He's
- 16:21Speaker 8: not afraid to go make a play and I saw
- 16:22Speaker 8: that from JD today.
- 16:23Speaker 1: I think there was a stretch where New England had
- 16:26Speaker 1: ten straight plays in goal to go situation. So inside
- 16:29Speaker 1: the ten where the defense did not allow them to
- 16:32Speaker 1: get in the end zone. What kind of a building
- 16:34Speaker 1: block is that.
- 16:35Speaker 8: That's character. I mean, that's character and toughness and guys
- 16:40Speaker 8: just doing their job and then knowing that other guys
- 16:42Speaker 8: are going to do theirs. And that's exactly how he
- 16:44Speaker 8: pointed out, And proud of those guys that gave us
- 16:47Speaker 8: a lot of momentum, you know, and they stopped him
- 16:49Speaker 8: on the two and we didn't go score, but we
- 16:51Speaker 8: were able to get the ball out to the forty
- 16:53Speaker 8: and try to flip the field. And so again I
- 16:55Speaker 8: was proud of the effort on those that drive you're
- 16:57Speaker 8: talking about with the defensive guys.
- 16:58Speaker 1: Chase Brown ran for more than a high yards today.
- 17:00Speaker 1: I don't think I'm back at top sixty against the
- 17:02Speaker 1: Patriots defense this year. Do you feel like the running
- 17:05Speaker 1: game now you can safely say it's more or less
- 17:08Speaker 1: turn the corner and it's pretty reliable.
- 17:09Speaker 2: I do.
- 17:10Speaker 8: Again, that speaks to the confidence. I think the whole
- 17:12Speaker 8: group's got confidence in the run game. The guys up
- 17:13Speaker 8: front are really coming off the ball, doing a great
- 17:16Speaker 8: job of their communication backs, understanding where we're going to
- 17:18Speaker 8: fit these balls. The tight ends are doing excellent job
- 17:20Speaker 8: on the perimeter. Receivers are bought in as well, and
- 17:23Speaker 8: so we do have a lot of confidence a run
- 17:25Speaker 8: game right now, and we'll continue lean on.
- 17:27Speaker 1: You didn't have Jamar Chase, and you lost T Higgins
- 17:29Speaker 1: late in this game. Mitch Tinsley caught a touchdown pass.
- 17:32Speaker 1: Andre yoc Bosch made some big catches. But how difficult
- 17:35Speaker 1: is it offensively when you're essentially down to a couple
- 17:37Speaker 1: of wide receivers.
- 17:38Speaker 8: That's just that's the way it works. You got to
- 17:40Speaker 8: find a way. No one wants to hear excuses. You
- 17:42Speaker 8: got to put those guys in a position to be successful.
- 17:45Speaker 8: I think their position coaches have been an excellent job
- 17:47Speaker 8: preparing the next man up, problem solving on the move
- 17:50Speaker 8: there as guys were playing a different position for the
- 17:52Speaker 8: first time in a run, concepts that probably hadn't practiced.
- 17:55Speaker 8: I thought our execution was still really at a high
- 17:57Speaker 8: level and gave us a chance to win a game.
- 18:00Speaker 1: To consider the possibility of Joe Burrow playing this week,
- 18:03Speaker 1: how quickly would you like to have a decision made
- 18:05Speaker 1: for the Thursday night game against Baltimore.
- 18:07Speaker 8: Yeah, there's got to be clarity. You know in terms
- 18:09Speaker 8: of just we're not physically practicing, we're walking through and stuff.
- 18:12Speaker 8: But you'd like the quarterback Steff Clarity, so Sooner wrote that.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Later, appreciate you time.
- 18:16Speaker 2: Yep, thank you. Dam up.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Next a Thanksgiving night road game in Baltimore with the
- 18:22Speaker 1: possibility of Joe Burrow returning to action. The Ravens open
- 18:27Speaker 1: as a seven point favorite. The Bengals Booth Podcast is
- 18:31Speaker 1: brought to you by pay Corps, Proud to be the
- 18:33Speaker 1: Bengals official HR software provider, by Alta Fiber future proof

- 18:45Speaker 1: for the best fans. Kettering Health is the official healthcare
- 18:48Speaker 1: provider of the Bengals. Now time for the radio guys
- 18:51Speaker 1: recap lap ice defensive progress. I wish it were resulting
- 18:57Speaker 1: in wins. We all do. But in the last week
- 19:01Speaker 1: the defense allowed twenty to the Steelers and nineteen today
- 19:05Speaker 1: against the Patriots. Obviously, I am subtracting the defensive touchdowns
- 19:09Speaker 1: that the other teams have scored. That's really what the
- 19:12Speaker 1: last six games are about, right, trying to make significant
- 19:16Speaker 1: improvement on that side of the ball.
- 19:17Speaker 4: No question about it, Dan, And you know, I remember
- 19:20Speaker 4: back in the day when I was playing football, Paul
- 19:22Speaker 4: Brown his magic number was seventeen. If you can hold
- 19:25Speaker 4: the opponent to seventeen points or less in the National
- 19:29Speaker 4: Football League, that should be a win, that should be
- 19:31Speaker 4: a victory. And I do think they are playing a
- 19:35Speaker 4: better defense. I do think they are improving. Other miles
- 19:38Speaker 4: to go before they rest. Yeah, I mean, they're not
- 19:40Speaker 4: there yet, but they're playing much better defense than they were,
- 19:44Speaker 4: you know, earlier in the season. The biggest problem that
- 19:47Speaker 4: the team has is inconsistency of performance from each phase
- 19:53Speaker 4: of the game. Offense plays well, defense doesn't. Defense plays well,
- 19:58Speaker 4: offense doesn't know teams isn't supporting you know either well enough.
- 20:04Speaker 4: Although I do think that Darren Simmons group is playing
- 20:07Speaker 4: probably the best of the three, the most consistent, and
- 20:10Speaker 4: I'm not surprised. I think he's one of the best coaches.
- 20:13Speaker 4: It's not the best special teams coach in the National
- 20:15Speaker 4: Football League and he's assistant head coach with the Bengals
- 20:18Speaker 4: for a reason.
- 20:19Speaker 1: The defense stopped the run pretty well throughout the game.
- 20:22Speaker 1: They were unbelievable in the low red zone. The Patriots
- 20:25Speaker 1: ran ten plays in a row without being able to
- 20:28Speaker 1: get in so that was stellar. On the other hand,
- 20:31Speaker 1: tight ends over the middle of the field have just
- 20:34Speaker 1: haunted this team. Not just this year, but it seems
- 20:36Speaker 1: like for several What is the problem with defending tight
- 20:41Speaker 1: ends in the middle of the field.
- 20:42Speaker 4: I wish I hadn't answer to that question. That's a
- 20:44Speaker 4: million dollar question, Dan, You've hit on it. I mean,
- 20:47Speaker 4: it's just and like you said, tight ends for the
- 20:50Speaker 4: last few years. It's not just this season, not just
- 20:53Speaker 4: this game, not for just half of this game, not
- 20:55Speaker 4: for just the end of the football game. Over and
- 20:58Speaker 4: over again, the middle of the football field has been
- 21:00Speaker 4: wide open, you know. I mean, you can just cherry
- 21:03Speaker 4: pick big plays in the middle of the football field
- 21:05Speaker 4: if you're a tight end, or if you're a wide
- 21:07Speaker 4: receiver running back out of the backfield. Everybody kind of
- 21:10Speaker 4: works their way back, migrates their way back to the
- 21:12Speaker 4: middle of the football field, and they get rewarded with
- 21:14Speaker 4: huge plays. I don't know if it's your technique is
- 21:19Speaker 4: not good enough and fundamentals aren't good enough, or if
- 21:22Speaker 4: you're just blowing coverages. It could be a combination of both,
- 21:25Speaker 4: but I tend to think I lean toward blowing coverages.
- 21:28Speaker 4: I think that guys are too wide open.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Joe Flacco by and large has been great since being
- 21:34Speaker 1: picked up by the Bengals, but the last couple of
- 21:37Speaker 1: weeks haven't been as good. Do you think the shoulder
- 21:40Speaker 1: is giving him trouble? Obviously he made one awful decision
- 21:43Speaker 1: today on the pick six.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:45Speaker 4: I love Joe Flacco. I think we just came from
- 21:48Speaker 4: a presser that Joe Flacco addressed the mass media, and
- 21:52Speaker 4: he never gives excuses. You know, He's adverse to blaming
- 21:58Speaker 4: it on something, whether it's his dislo kid index finger.
- 22:01Speaker 4: You know, you're a quarterback and your index finger is
- 22:03Speaker 4: garled up and dislocated, that could be alarming, you know,
- 22:07Speaker 4: But he just kind of like, you know, they come
- 22:09Speaker 4: out and put it back in a place. And I'm
- 22:11Speaker 4: sure there was some pain there when he was releasing
- 22:13Speaker 4: the football, but he's still threw with pretty good accuracy. Now,
- 22:16Speaker 4: there were more throws in this football game that were
- 22:19Speaker 4: off and significantly off than in prior games, and I
- 22:23Speaker 4: think that is due to due to the injury. But
- 22:25Speaker 4: credit him, he wasn't going to come out of that
- 22:27Speaker 4: football game. He came out for one snap and Jake
- 22:30Speaker 4: Browning goes one for one and has a perfect quarterback
- 22:32Speaker 4: rating with his completion to Tinsley. So you know, it is,
- 22:38Speaker 4: it is what it is, and I you know, I
- 22:41Speaker 4: think the thing again, the thing about Joe Flacco is
- 22:44Speaker 4: he's a man's man in terms of look, I got
- 22:47Speaker 4: to play better. Everybody has to play better for us
- 22:50Speaker 4: to win football games down the stretch.
- 22:52Speaker 1: The Bengals didn't have Jamar Chase today because spit happened
- 22:55Speaker 1: last week. Pittsburgh go'll get him back on Thursday night
- 22:58Speaker 1: in Baltimore, but I can't imagine and the t Higgins
- 23:01Speaker 1: will play. He suffered a concussion late in the game.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Maybe if he had a whole week he'd be back,
- 23:06Speaker 1: but I'd be shocked if he were able to come
- 23:08Speaker 1: back on a short week on Thursday night.
- 23:10Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm in the same school. I thought you are there, Dan.
- 23:12Speaker 4: You know, concussions and no joke, I had a couple
- 23:16Speaker 4: of those as well, And you know they really there
- 23:19Speaker 4: was no real concussion protocol and Blue ten and all
- 23:22Speaker 4: that sort of thing back in the seventies. And I
- 23:24Speaker 4: do think they've made significant advancements for player safety in
- 23:27Speaker 4: that regard. But man, just you know, wouldn't it be
- 23:30Speaker 4: great to have Jamar, Chase and t Higgins playing the
- 23:34Speaker 4: same football game with their quarterback Joe Burrow? The Big Three?
- 23:38Speaker 4: Have the Big Three go out against the Baltimore Ravens
- 23:40Speaker 4: on Thanksgiving?
- 23:41Speaker 2: You know that would be like, how about that?
- 23:44Speaker 4: Go out and enjoy a nice football game where those
- 23:47Speaker 4: guys are all making plays and come out with a
- 23:49Speaker 4: victory against the Baltimore Ravens.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Go home and throw it on some turkey.
- 23:53Speaker 1: I think Zach Taylor was very close to letting Joe
- 23:56Speaker 1: Burrow play this week. Do you think he plays on
- 24:00Speaker 1: Thursday night in Baltimore?
- 24:02Speaker 4: I agree with you on both counts. I think he
- 24:05Speaker 4: was very close to letting Joe play this week. I
- 24:08Speaker 4: think that, you know, it had to be one hundred percent,
- 24:11Speaker 4: not ninety nine point five, not ninety nine point nine.
- 24:14Speaker 4: Had to be one hundred percent. There had to be
- 24:16Speaker 4: if he found himself in trouble on the football field,
- 24:19Speaker 4: he had to be able to move well enough to
- 24:20Speaker 4: protect himself and not subject himself to additional injury. So
- 24:25Speaker 4: I think that was the final determining factor of him
- 24:27Speaker 4: not playing. You know, in this football game. But I
- 24:30Speaker 4: do think he will play against the Baltimore Raves, and
- 24:33Speaker 4: I have a sneaky suspicions going to play pretty well.
- 24:36Speaker 4: I mean, he's beside himself patrolling that sideline. He is
- 24:40Speaker 4: so competitive. I mean, he just doesn't know what to
- 24:42Speaker 4: do with himself, and he is giving Joe Flacko good
- 24:45Speaker 4: information about, you know, what the opponent's trying to do
- 24:48Speaker 4: in terms of coverages and taking players away and some
- 24:51Speaker 4: of the receiving the best routes of receivers run taken
- 24:54Speaker 4: away from them and neutralizing things. But it would be very,
- 24:57Speaker 4: very celebratory, I think to get Joe, to get Joe
- 25:02Speaker 4: Burrow back in action against a division rival on Thanksgiving
- 25:06Speaker 4: under the lights at pay Corse Stadium on national television,
- 25:09Speaker 4: I think that'll be big in Baltimore, in Baltimore, I
- 25:12Speaker 4: wish it was here in Baltimore under the lights.
- 25:15Speaker 2: It'll be big time.
- 25:17Speaker 1: We saw Bengals history today, a sixty three yard field
- 25:19Speaker 1: goal from Moneymack, the first sixty plus field goal in
- 25:22Speaker 1: franchise history. It's not a super long list of guys
- 25:25Speaker 1: that have made field goals in the NFL. From sixty plus.
- 25:28Speaker 1: We knew he could do it nice to see him
- 25:30Speaker 1: come through it is.
- 25:32Speaker 4: He has got a howartzer hanging off of that right
- 25:34Speaker 4: hip man. It is amazing when he strikes that football,
- 25:38Speaker 4: it is it's thumped. I mean it is lit up,
- 25:41Speaker 4: and not only for distance, but he gets that quick
- 25:44Speaker 4: elevation that he gets because of his leg strength. I
- 25:47Speaker 4: mean he takes it a long way and he takes
- 25:49Speaker 4: it very very high as well. So I think he's
- 25:54Speaker 4: the best in the National Football League, I really do.
- 25:56Speaker 4: I think that his kickoffs, he can do a lot
- 25:59Speaker 4: of things the football. He's got like a magic toe
- 26:02Speaker 4: or magic foot hanging off to that right leg. He
- 26:04Speaker 4: is a very unique player and a total team player.
- 26:08Speaker 4: He knows what his role is and you know he
- 26:11Speaker 4: doesn't try to do anything to step out of line
- 26:15Speaker 4: in terms of that role.
- 26:16Speaker 1: So the Bengals tried to snap an eight game losing
- 26:18Speaker 1: streak today. They came up six point six point short,
- 26:22Speaker 1: and now they will try to snap what I believe
- 26:25Speaker 1: is a six game winning streak next week. Baltimore hasn't
- 26:28Speaker 1: lost since starting one in five. I guess they've won
- 26:30Speaker 1: five straight. So two of the best games in the
- 26:34Speaker 1: entire NFL. Last year with the two games between Cincinnati
- 26:37Speaker 1: and Baltimore. They were both thrillers. Unfortunately the Ravens won
- 26:40Speaker 1: them both. And here we go again with a Thanksgiving
- 26:44Speaker 1: night game. That's why the NFL put this game on
- 26:46Speaker 1: Thanksgiving Night going into the season. They thought, you know what,
- 26:49Speaker 1: those are two of the best games in the league
- 26:50Speaker 1: last year. Let's put one of those on Thanksgiving Night.
- 26:53Speaker 4: Couldn't agree with you more, Dan, I mean, the league
- 26:55Speaker 4: knows what they're doing. Roger Goodell is a wizard, you know,
- 26:59Speaker 4: in turn of being able to handle negotiations with the
- 27:02Speaker 4: networks and put the National Football League in the best
- 27:06Speaker 4: light possible. And I mean the fans just I mean
- 27:11Speaker 4: their week is built around getting ready for the next
- 27:14Speaker 4: game with their professional football team. If they're in a
- 27:17Speaker 4: market one of the thirty two big city markets in
- 27:19Speaker 4: the National Football League, you know, if not, they've still
- 27:22Speaker 4: got their fan bases for sure. So it is, it's
- 27:27Speaker 4: a celebration. It's almost like watching a football game on
- 27:30Speaker 4: Sunday is like almost like another national holiday. But there's
- 27:34Speaker 4: too many of those to consider it that. But I
- 27:36Speaker 4: think that the NFL couldn't have made a better decision
- 27:40Speaker 4: and be in a better spot than to have the
- 27:42Speaker 4: Bengals Ravens Aft North Division bloodbath on Thanksgiving night.
- 27:49Speaker 1: Look forward to spending my Thanksgiving with you, my friend.
- 27:52Speaker 2: I do the same, Dan, no doubt about it.
- 27:54Speaker 4: Well, what do you say to Like we talked about
- 27:57Speaker 4: the Bengals beat the Ravens.
- 27:58Speaker 2: We go pound some turkey man or crabcakes or crabcakes.
- 28:02Speaker 2: Nothing wrong with those as well.
- 28:06Speaker 1: That's a wrap on the Patriots game. Now time for
- 28:09Speaker 1: this week's fun Facts conversation, where you get to know
- 28:12Speaker 1: the person under the pads. Time for some fun facts
- 28:17Speaker 1: with offensive lineman Dylan Fairchild, from Coming, Georgia, about forty
- 28:21Speaker 1: minutes north of Atlanta, the birthplace of country music stars
- 28:25Speaker 1: Zach Brown, among others. Describe growing up in Coming and
- 28:29Speaker 1: some of the things you enjoyed doing.
- 28:30Speaker 3: As a kid.
- 28:31Speaker 9: I just, you know, I loved I've been playing sports
- 28:33Speaker 9: since I was six years old. That took most of
- 28:38Speaker 9: my time, I'd say that, And obviously just elementary school
- 28:40Speaker 9: and high school and you know whatnot. But I love fishing.
- 28:44Speaker 9: I love being outside in the woods. That's probably like
- 28:47Speaker 9: the number one place I go. I love camping, just
- 28:50Speaker 9: being out there, like just use your peace of mind
- 28:52Speaker 9: and that was like my favorite thing to do, just
- 28:54Speaker 9: in like when I had downtime.
- 28:56Speaker 3: So absolutely, just being.
- 28:58Speaker 1: Outside excellence as a high school wrestler is a big
- 29:02Speaker 1: part of your bio. It's a sport that's not for everybody.
- 29:06Speaker 1: Why did you enjoy it so much?
- 29:08Speaker 9: I just love the grit. You know, it's a gritty sport.
- 29:10Speaker 9: It's a difficult thing to do. I didn't love it
- 29:13Speaker 9: every day, but some of those days, like I remember,
- 29:16Speaker 9: like I you know, there were Sundays every Sunday, my
- 29:20Speaker 9: dad would take me to go to my gym and wrestle,
- 29:23Speaker 9: and just I that was one of those days. We're
- 29:26Speaker 9: growing up, Like I didn't really want to go on Sunday,
- 29:28Speaker 9: But now that I look back, I realized, like those
- 29:31Speaker 9: Sundays were Obviously we're playing athletics on Sundays now, so
- 29:36Speaker 9: you know, like it, I think that kind of just
- 29:38Speaker 9: like put discipline into me even more because you know,
- 29:41Speaker 9: there's nothing better than just sitting at home chilling on Sunday.
- 29:43Speaker 9: But when you're over there grinding and stuff like it
- 29:47Speaker 9: just really put me put some core values in my
- 29:49Speaker 9: in my brain and in my body and just you know,
- 29:52Speaker 9: help me develop as a person.
- 29:54Speaker 3: The most.
- 29:55Speaker 1: You were an undefeated state champion as a junior and
- 29:58Speaker 1: as a senior. What was your fast pin?
- 30:01Speaker 9: Oh gosh, I don't even know. I think it was
- 30:03Speaker 9: like four seconds. This guy like he just rolled over.
- 30:07Speaker 9: I was like, are you serious? No, it was, it was.
- 30:11Speaker 9: It was pretty ridiculous.
- 30:12Speaker 3: I was. I was shocked. I didn't even He just
- 30:16Speaker 3: immediately shook hands and basically laid down.
- 30:18Speaker 2: I was like, wow, this is crazy.
- 30:21Speaker 1: Be nice if defensive lineman did that, No, that'd be great.
- 30:25Speaker 3: He's so great.
- 30:26Speaker 1: On the flip side. Did anybody give you a really
- 30:29Speaker 1: good match in those last two years?
- 30:31Speaker 3: Oh?
- 30:31Speaker 9: Absolutely, there was a couple of great guys. There's a
- 30:33Speaker 9: kid from Central I ends up forgetting his name Central Forscyth.
- 30:37Speaker 9: It's a really tough kid, like impossible to try to
- 30:40Speaker 9: turn and pin. My hardest match ever was a kid
- 30:44Speaker 9: named Tamari Fox.
- 30:45Speaker 3: Uh.
- 30:45Speaker 9: He went to UNC North Carolina and played I believe
- 30:50Speaker 9: d n there and it was just a stud athlete
- 30:52Speaker 9: like he gave me, by.
- 30:54Speaker 3: Far the hardest match I remember walking away from. I
- 30:57Speaker 3: ended up losing.
- 30:58Speaker 9: I walked away and I wasn't even upset because I
- 31:01Speaker 9: just I gave everything I had. I threw up profusely
- 31:04Speaker 9: in the bathroom and was like, I knew I emptied
- 31:08Speaker 9: the tank. So that was by far, Like that was
- 31:11Speaker 9: one of my most thrilling matches, even though I lost.
- 31:16Speaker 3: So it was just fun.
- 31:18Speaker 1: Sounds like something you grew from.
- 31:19Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 31:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:20Speaker 9: No, I knew, like I've been training for him for
- 31:23Speaker 9: months and months and months at a time. And after
- 31:27Speaker 9: the match, I mean I was gonna be so I
- 31:29Speaker 9: pre pre match and pre tournament. It was a state tournament,
- 31:32Speaker 9: so I was like, I wanted to win really bad,
- 31:34Speaker 9: and I thought I'd be really upset, but I wasn't
- 31:37Speaker 9: because I knew, like I had given everything and I
- 31:39Speaker 9: learned a lesson that day, like when you give everything
- 31:42Speaker 9: you've got, like it's everything you got, you know, so
- 31:45Speaker 9: win or lose, you at least can go to sleep
- 31:47Speaker 9: knowing everything you gave everything you had to try to
- 31:51Speaker 9: get a win.
- 31:52Speaker 3: You know that day. So sometimes it just doesn't turn
- 31:54Speaker 3: out in your favor.
- 31:55Speaker 1: We're chatting a Dyllan fair Child. You're from Georgia and
- 31:58Speaker 1: you went to Georgia. You played at the University of
- 32:01Speaker 1: Was that the dream growing up?
- 32:02Speaker 3: I think so?
- 32:03Speaker 9: Yeah, I think so I knew I honestly, like, I
- 32:06Speaker 9: didn't know what I was gonna do. I thought I
- 32:08Speaker 9: was gonna wrestle for a long time, and I thought
- 32:10Speaker 9: I was gonna play football. Then I thought I was
- 32:11Speaker 9: gonna wrestle. Like I was kind of back and forth.
- 32:13Speaker 9: But it was always a Georgia fan. I was always
- 32:15Speaker 9: watching those national championships when they were in it, and
- 32:19Speaker 9: just somehow it didn't pull through. I'm not gonna I'm
- 32:22Speaker 9: not gonna talk about it, but no, but I was
- 32:26Speaker 9: definitely a Georgia fan my whole life.
- 32:28Speaker 3: My dad raised me a Georgia fan.
- 32:30Speaker 9: We always pulled for the Dogs, and I just knew
- 32:32Speaker 9: that was the place to go. You know, it was
- 32:34Speaker 9: the hardest place I could possibly go to, other than
- 32:37Speaker 9: one more that I'm not gonna mention this happens to.
- 32:40Speaker 3: Be our neighbor.
- 32:41Speaker 9: But you know, those two programs are by far the
- 32:46Speaker 9: best programs you know at the time, and we're the
- 32:48Speaker 9: toughest programs, had the best recruits and so but it
- 32:53Speaker 9: was a no brainer for me. If I was gonna
- 32:54Speaker 9: challenge myself, that's the place to do it.
- 32:56Speaker 1: You spend four years with the Bulldogs, you started your
- 32:58Speaker 1: last two who was the toughest person you faced, whether
- 33:01Speaker 1: it was a teammate that you were facing it practice,
- 33:04Speaker 1: or an opponent.
- 33:06Speaker 9: I'd probably say Jalen Carter was probably the toughest dude.
- 33:09Speaker 9: There's a couple of guys. I mean, there's an endless
- 33:11Speaker 9: list of guys I could name that were on the
- 33:13Speaker 9: team that were there were dogs, you know, I mean,
- 33:16Speaker 9: all of them ended up being first rounders. DeVante Whyatt,
- 33:19Speaker 9: Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis. There's a lot of guys, and
- 33:22Speaker 9: they were all good at different things. I think overall,
- 33:25Speaker 9: just talent wise, I think Jaalen Carter was probably the
- 33:27Speaker 9: most talented.
- 33:27Speaker 3: Guy for sure.
- 33:29Speaker 1: We learned from your college teammate of Marius Mims, that
- 33:32Speaker 1: your nickname at Georgia was Pickle. What is the origin
- 33:36Speaker 1: story of the pickle nickname?
- 33:38Speaker 9: Mims was the one who started it. I don't even know.
- 33:41Speaker 9: I think I honestly couldn't tell you. I have no idea.
- 33:46Speaker 9: I think Mems this one day said it and it
- 33:48Speaker 9: just stuck, and then all the boys, all the guys
- 33:51Speaker 9: started calling calling me Pickle, and it just we.
- 33:54Speaker 3: Just wrote it out from there on and that was it.
- 33:57Speaker 1: Since Mims is in the building here, has that nickname
- 33:59Speaker 1: Mike rated to Cincinnati.
- 34:01Speaker 9: It has with memes. Yeah, I think I'll always be
- 34:03Speaker 9: pickled to memes. But I don't think some of these
- 34:05Speaker 9: older guys are going to buy into that.
- 34:08Speaker 1: You're a twenty two year old rookie and a married man.
- 34:11Speaker 1: You got married about a month before the NFL draft.
- 34:14Speaker 1: Why did you and Elizabeth decide to get married at
- 34:16Speaker 1: such an early age.
- 34:18Speaker 3: I think it was just the way I grew up.
- 34:21Speaker 9: My parents were divorced, and I just I love God
- 34:25Speaker 9: and I love her, and I knew that she has
- 34:28Speaker 9: led me to success in ways that you know, it's
- 34:32Speaker 9: hard for me to you know, reciprocate, and like she's
- 34:36Speaker 9: just given me a piece to be able to come
- 34:38Speaker 9: here every single day and do my job and fully
- 34:41Speaker 9: focus on my job. And that's really what I want,
- 34:44Speaker 9: you know. And I love her the most out of
- 34:46Speaker 9: any you know, anything and anyone other than the Lord above.
- 34:49Speaker 9: And I knew that we were going to pursue, continue
- 34:53Speaker 9: to pursue God, and continue to pursue each other.
- 34:55Speaker 3: So there was really no.
- 34:57Speaker 9: Questions, you know, There was just that the answer was
- 35:00Speaker 9: we wanted to get married, and it was quick.
- 35:03Speaker 3: It was a free wedding.
- 35:04Speaker 9: So we actually didn't go like we didn't Elope, but
- 35:08Speaker 9: it wasn't like a full wedding, so it was It's
- 35:11Speaker 9: pretty cool. Yeah, it was. I'm glad that we did it.
- 35:14Speaker 9: She's glad we did it, and I wouldn't want it
- 35:16Speaker 9: any other way.
- 35:17Speaker 1: We're chatting with Dylan Fairchild. So a month after that,
- 35:20Speaker 1: really big day came the other one, when you were
- 35:22Speaker 1: selected in the third round by the Bengals. In this
- 35:24Speaker 1: year's draft, described that entire day. I know, it can
- 35:28Speaker 1: be really stressful leading up to getting the phone call
- 35:31Speaker 1: from Zach Taylor.
- 35:32Speaker 3: No, it was extremely stressful. I was. I was really
- 35:35Speaker 3: The third round was where we were helping me, my agent,
- 35:37Speaker 3: just my whole family.
- 35:40Speaker 9: You know, obviously you want to continue to do better
- 35:42Speaker 9: and better, but you know, that was where we had
- 35:44Speaker 9: hopefully predicted where I would go, and I did not
- 35:47Speaker 9: know it would be at Cincinnati. I had no idea.
- 35:51Speaker 9: This was one of the last places I had on
- 35:52Speaker 9: my mind of where I thought.
- 35:53Speaker 3: I would be too.
- 35:54Speaker 9: I just we had a couple of meetings, but it
- 35:57Speaker 9: just wasn't, you know, like it wasn't just wasn't what
- 36:00Speaker 9: I thought, you know, And so there were some picks,
- 36:04Speaker 9: you know, at some times where they slipped by, and
- 36:06Speaker 9: I was like, oh, you know, we may be waiting
- 36:08Speaker 9: another day. And then my friend started ringing, and it's
- 36:12Speaker 9: just the whole day was just like that was probably
- 36:14Speaker 9: the most stressed out of thing I've ever been because
- 36:16Speaker 9: there was nothing, nothing I could do. Nothing's in your control,
- 36:20Speaker 9: you know, like it's all in God's hands, it's all
- 36:23Speaker 9: in the coach's hands, in the in the owner's hands,
- 36:26Speaker 9: so there's nothing that you can really do about it.
- 36:28Speaker 3: Be so I just sit and wait, and that feeling
- 36:30Speaker 3: is kind of scary, you.
- 36:31Speaker 9: Know, you just sitting there waiting to get a phone call.
- 36:34Speaker 9: But and when I did, I I couldn't even believe it.
- 36:37Speaker 9: Like I just answered the phone and I felt so robotic.
- 36:40Speaker 9: I was like hello, you know, and so it was
- 36:43Speaker 9: it was really a huge blessing, and like I just
- 36:46Speaker 9: you know, I was so shocked and just couldn't believe it.
- 36:48Speaker 9: And I was just immediately so blessed. And you know,
- 36:51Speaker 9: you're nervous because you don't you know, you'd love to
- 36:54Speaker 9: be anywhere on any NFL team, but it's scary, you know,
- 36:57Speaker 9: growing up in Georgia going to georgiad move literally completely
- 37:02Speaker 9: across the entire country coast to coast, So it's really
- 37:07Speaker 9: cool being like I still on the East coast, just
- 37:08Speaker 9: being close to home, Like it's a seven hour drive,
- 37:11Speaker 9: which is and I love the drive too, So it
- 37:13Speaker 9: was really awesome to just it's a huge blessing. You know,
- 37:15Speaker 9: it was immediate blessing. Just my whole family and my
- 37:18Speaker 9: mom started crying.
- 37:19Speaker 3: It was awesome. It was awesome.
- 37:21Speaker 1: That stress will be topped when you and Elizabeth have
- 37:23Speaker 1: your first child, but that's still to come. When you
- 37:26Speaker 1: came to town after the draft, he lived with Ted
- 37:28Speaker 1: Karras for a little while. Yeah, what was your reaction
- 37:31Speaker 1: when he made that offer?
- 37:33Speaker 3: I was, I was kind of surprised. Most guys aren't
- 37:38Speaker 3: as just charismatic as him, you know.
- 37:41Speaker 9: I mean he's extremely just like a person of such
- 37:43Speaker 9: high character, and he's just a like a rich person,
- 37:48Speaker 9: you know, like when it's just like like almost like
- 37:50Speaker 9: a rich cake, like when he's just got so many
- 37:52Speaker 9: layers to his personality, so many layers to just the
- 37:55Speaker 9: guy that he is. And when he did I was
- 37:59Speaker 9: just you know, straight up in the top of the
- 38:00Speaker 9: cake with him. You know, there's No, there's nobody liked ed.
- 38:03Speaker 9: So when he did that, I was just extremely you know,
- 38:06Speaker 9: honored and blessed and I just appreciated that the most.
- 38:10Speaker 3: My wife made sure.
- 38:11Speaker 9: That we got them a nice basket to some of
- 38:14Speaker 9: some chocolates and stuff, so it was really nice of him.
- 38:17Speaker 3: Yeah, that was That was awesome.
- 38:19Speaker 1: We're having this visit about midway through your rookie year.
- 38:22Speaker 1: How would you describe your first NFL season to day.
- 38:25Speaker 9: I'm just trying to be a sponge, you know, and
- 38:27Speaker 9: just absorb, absorb, absorb all the information and knowledge I
- 38:30Speaker 9: can and then on Sunday just letting it fly, you know,
- 38:32Speaker 9: just letting it go. Treating every day as if I
- 38:36Speaker 9: have nothing to lose, you know, and that's the only
- 38:37Speaker 9: way I know how to do it, and just going,
- 38:40Speaker 9: you know, balls of the wall. There's no other way
- 38:44Speaker 9: to put it. It's just hard every day, you know,
- 38:47Speaker 9: just go hard every day. And yeah, that's really all
- 38:51Speaker 9: I It's all I do is I try to look
- 38:52Speaker 9: forward every single day all right.
- 38:55Speaker 1: Time for a few wild card topics now with Dylan Fairchild,
- 38:58Speaker 1: who is your all time favorite athlete in any sport?
- 39:02Speaker 3: And why I'd probably have to say Nate Dia is
- 39:06Speaker 3: my favorite. Yeah, you know, I don't I don't know
- 39:08Speaker 3: if you know. Is that like a UFC guy fighter?
- 39:11Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, he uh, he's just a dog like he's
- 39:15Speaker 9: not He's just one of those guys. It's like he
- 39:18Speaker 9: doesn't ever stop, Like he just doesn't quit ever.
- 39:22Speaker 3: You know.
- 39:22Speaker 9: It's they say Nat Diez doesn't lose fights. He just
- 39:25Speaker 9: runs out of time, you know. Like he he's just
- 39:27Speaker 9: one of those guys that nobody wants to fight because
- 39:30Speaker 9: he's just a dog like he has no inch of
- 39:33Speaker 9: care in his body and he's willing to put it
- 39:35Speaker 9: all out there on the line every time. And I
- 39:37Speaker 9: feel the same way. You know, I don't think I
- 39:39Speaker 9: do what he does. But he's a little he's just
- 39:42Speaker 9: a couple of steps above us.
- 39:43Speaker 3: But he's probably my favorite guy that I look to.
- 39:46Speaker 3: Is just like inspiration.
- 39:48Speaker 9: Like when things don't go well, Like he's a nasty dude,
- 39:52Speaker 9: you know, and things don't go well for him, you know,
- 39:55Speaker 9: it might be vulgar, but he gives him the middle
- 39:57Speaker 9: finger and like he just keeps going, you know. And
- 39:59Speaker 9: that's I sway my father raised me. That's the way
- 40:01Speaker 9: that I've I've been you know, taught my whole life
- 40:03Speaker 9: and I just love he embodies that.
- 40:06Speaker 3: So he's probably my favorite for sure.
- 40:09Speaker 1: Speaking of UFC guys, we saw footage of you wrestling
- 40:12Speaker 1: with UFC champ Sean Strickland in the off season. How
- 40:16Speaker 1: did that come about? And did the Bengals object when
- 40:20Speaker 1: they saw the footage they reposted it. I guess not.
- 40:25Speaker 3: No, I was really it's not Honestly, I was nervous.
- 40:27Speaker 9: I was kind of like, like, what did I just do?
- 40:29Speaker 9: But no, everybody was cool about it. Everybody loved it
- 40:33Speaker 9: and that was good. It was all clean and fun,
- 40:36Speaker 9: so that was a good thing. But no, we were
- 40:39Speaker 9: just in Vegas and we were there with my agent
- 40:42Speaker 9: actually put a little event on and it was awesome.
- 40:45Speaker 9: Joe Panosi's a guy. But yeah, we were out there
- 40:49Speaker 9: in Vegas and again like we were just gonna watch
- 40:52Speaker 9: a fight and like just having fun hanging out. And
- 40:55Speaker 9: he had the idea to go to the UFC Performance Institute,
- 40:59Speaker 9: which is a huge complex for all the fighters and
- 41:01Speaker 9: any fighter can show up at any time. So he
- 41:03Speaker 9: happened to be there and we walked in and he
- 41:06Speaker 9: said a couple cuss words at us, and so he
- 41:09Speaker 9: said who wants to wrestle, So he was.
- 41:11Speaker 3: He is as advertised, I'll tell you that. So no,
- 41:14Speaker 3: it was really cool though. He was really cool about
- 41:16Speaker 3: it too. It was it was, It was really cool.
- 41:19Speaker 3: It was awesome.
- 41:20Speaker 1: Since you're still basically a newlywed, do you and Elizabeth
- 41:25Speaker 1: watch TV shows together? And if so, what are some
- 41:28Speaker 1: of your favorites.
- 41:30Speaker 3: We used to watch a lot more.
- 41:33Speaker 9: We've gotten more into movies now because we just don't
- 41:35Speaker 9: have a lot of time to watch TV shows.
- 41:37Speaker 3: So we're like big movie people. We just watched Narnia h.
- 41:40Speaker 9: Two nights ago because it's been so long since I've
- 41:43Speaker 9: seen that movie. So she wanted to watch it, so
- 41:45Speaker 9: we watched it. But I'll put her on some Quentin
- 41:48Speaker 9: Tarantino films. You know, I'm a big movie guy. I
- 41:52Speaker 9: love movies, so I love Tarantino's work. You know, I
- 41:55Speaker 9: love just a lot of different directors. I try to
- 41:58Speaker 9: go by director. You know, Spielberg is another good one.
- 42:03Speaker 9: You know, just try to like show were like really
- 42:06Speaker 9: good film.
- 42:06Speaker 1: You know.
- 42:07Speaker 9: I appreciate that her family is also huge in the
- 42:10Speaker 9: film industry and they make movies all the time. So
- 42:14Speaker 9: it's really interesting. Now her mom decided not to. She
- 42:18Speaker 9: wanted to go into service. So they're amazing people. And yeah, no,
- 42:23Speaker 9: we but our shows that we did well, I mean
- 42:25Speaker 9: I tried to get it or like Breaking Bad. She
- 42:26Speaker 9: didn't like it though, as I thought her it was
- 42:29Speaker 9: a great show, but she didn't like it. We watched
- 42:32Speaker 9: the one hundred. The Walking Dead was a good one
- 42:34Speaker 9: that we finished. That was so long it took us
- 42:37Speaker 9: a year to finish it. So it was a long show.
- 42:41Speaker 1: Breaking Bad's my all time favorite show. So you have
- 42:43Speaker 1: excellent taste. Pulp fiction, kill Bill. What's your favorite to
- 42:47Speaker 1: Quentin Tarantino.
- 42:51Speaker 9: And Glorious Bastards. Probably, Yeah, that's my favorite one. It's
- 42:55Speaker 9: just a great movie. It's a solid movie.
- 42:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 42:58Speaker 1: The opening scene with the people under the floorboards. Man,
- 43:02Speaker 1: that one gives me.
- 43:02Speaker 3: Chills does every time.
- 43:04Speaker 9: I know it's he does very well just describing almost
- 43:09Speaker 9: putting that type of anger in you.
- 43:11Speaker 3: As the whole movie goes on and it's a it's
- 43:13Speaker 3: a glory movie. It's a crazy movie.
- 43:15Speaker 9: But you know, he does a really good job of
- 43:17Speaker 9: again like just making you feel those emotions and as
- 43:21Speaker 9: the movie goes on.
- 43:22Speaker 1: Final fun fact for Dylan Fairchild, this one's a little
- 43:25Speaker 1: bit deep. If you could meet anybody in history, living
- 43:30Speaker 1: or deceased, who would that person be?
- 43:33Speaker 9: I go Jesus, absolutely, yeah, no, I would. I'd love
- 43:37Speaker 9: to meet Jesus. Hopefully that's where I'm going, you know,
- 43:40Speaker 9: one day. But that was absolutely who I would go
- 43:44Speaker 9: to meet for sure.
- 43:45Speaker 1: You know.
- 43:45Speaker 9: I try to root myself in that and just ground
- 43:48Speaker 9: myself no matter what happens, good or bad, and just
- 43:52Speaker 9: live live that life, you know, And I do a
- 43:55Speaker 9: better job talking about it than being about it, you know,
- 43:57Speaker 9: just being honest with you and fall short like everybody else.
- 44:02Speaker 9: But again, like I just try to live with that
- 44:04Speaker 9: type of love you know, in my heart and just
- 44:07Speaker 9: love and forgive people. And that's just again, like my
- 44:10Speaker 9: wife does an amazing job of just bringing me back
- 44:12Speaker 9: to that base level every day.
- 44:16Speaker 3: You know.
- 44:17Speaker 9: She's absolutely the reason that I was brought back to
- 44:21Speaker 9: the Lord and she's my rock.
- 44:22Speaker 3: And so yeah, no it it'd be Jesus for sure.
- 44:26Speaker 1: This has been fun. Really appreciate your time. Best of
- 44:29Speaker 1: luck the rest of the year, sir.
- 44:30Speaker 3: Thank you so much.
