- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:04Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus. Playfak go to roll right, jumpson off into
- 0:07Speaker 1: the right class to Michael Bumpers, who bounces off on
- 0:10Speaker 1: one tackler gets inside the forty down of the thirty
- 0:12Speaker 1: five yard line. Powered by seahawks dot Com map, pump
- 0:16Speaker 1: fakes looking at the goal line, he chose it into
- 0:18Speaker 1: the endzone. Touchdown, Saint Hawks. It's Michael Bumpas with a
- 0:22Speaker 1: diving catch in the end zone. A ten yard touchdown
- 0:25Speaker 1: reception for Bumpus, and the kid out of Washington State
- 0:28Speaker 1: has found himself a place on this team. Now here's
- 0:32Speaker 1: your host, NASA Chubby. Welcome to another edition of Hawk Talk.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Michael Bumps myself, NASA cho We were back at it again,
- 0:39Speaker 1: this time to preview the Detroit Lions. The Seahawks are
- 0:42Speaker 1: trying to bounce back after two straight losses to the
- 0:44Speaker 1: San Francisco forty nine ers and the Lanta Falcons. But
- 0:47Speaker 1: for more on those Lions, let's get into it. What's
- 0:49Speaker 1: on tap? What's on tap? Detroit went into type for
- 0:57Speaker 1: a last place in the NFC South. I just I
- 0:59Speaker 1: don't know. I keep throwing last place in there. Man's
- 1:01Speaker 1: three weeks, I'm out here throwing that around this third week,
- 1:03Speaker 1: and Ride has left that in there. You know what
- 1:04Speaker 1: I'm saying, Stop judging them nose. These Lines are a
- 1:07Speaker 1: good football team. I'm not. I'm gonna be consistent throughout
- 1:10Speaker 1: this podcast. This is a good football team. They're way
- 1:12Speaker 1: better than one in two record. They lost the opening
- 1:14Speaker 1: week thirty eight thirty five to what we're seeing now
- 1:17Speaker 1: is a good Philadelphia Eagles team that's undefeated. They go
- 1:20Speaker 1: ahead and beat the Commanders thirty six to twenty seven,
- 1:22Speaker 1: and week two and then in week three and they
- 1:24Speaker 1: lose a heartbreaker to the Vikings twenty eight twenty four.
- 1:28Speaker 1: And like I said, they're a good football team. They
- 1:30Speaker 1: got good players on offense and defense, and bump, man,
- 1:33Speaker 1: what you see from these lines against the Vikings, Man,
- 1:35Speaker 1: they had a ten point lead. Man. What happened? Man?
- 1:38Speaker 1: I was We're watching the scores, obviously keeping track of
- 1:41Speaker 1: what's going on, and these guys jumped out to a
- 1:43Speaker 1: fourteen old lead, and the second quarter we're like, okay, Lines,
- 1:46Speaker 1: you're doing your thing. But right before the half the
- 1:48Speaker 1: Vikings would tie it up. Of course, getting Dalvin cooked
- 1:51Speaker 1: and involved, and then the third quarters those all lines
- 1:53Speaker 1: to score ten points. They took a twenty four to
- 1:56Speaker 1: fourteen league going into the fourth, but then things got
- 1:59Speaker 1: a little bit interesting. Trailing twenty four to twenty one
- 2:02Speaker 1: with two thirty six remaining, the Vikings turned the ball
- 2:04Speaker 1: over on downs at the Minnesota forty seven yard line.
- 2:09Speaker 1: What happened next? The Vikings, Sorry, the Vikings went on
- 2:13Speaker 1: to that fifty six yard and just three plays for
- 2:16Speaker 1: a touchdown bump. And the reason I got tripped up
- 2:18Speaker 1: there for a second is because Dan Campbell, mister go
- 2:21Speaker 1: Ford on fourth down six times in one football game.
- 2:25Speaker 1: I don't know what, I don't know what the analytics say,
- 2:28Speaker 1: but six times and up, you know he's kicking himself
- 2:30Speaker 1: after the fact, I wouldn't be hard at him giving
- 2:32Speaker 1: that situation. That's the right call. You kicked the field goal.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Your field goal kicker doesn't help you out. They miss it.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Viking turnaround, go just three plays fifty six yards, get
- 2:41Speaker 1: that touchdown, and kJ Osborne and Jared Goff, you know
- 2:45Speaker 1: you had decent numbers twenty five or forty one, two
- 2:47Speaker 1: seventy seven, one touchdown, one pick. Jamal Williams of the
- 2:50Speaker 1: lines in rushing with eighty seven yards and twenty carries
- 2:52Speaker 1: and two touchdowns. But yeah, man, that's a game that
- 2:55Speaker 1: the lines field they should have won and definitely kicking
- 2:57Speaker 1: himself with a division rider like that on the road. Yep.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Josh Reynolds led all receivers. He has six for ninety
- 3:03Speaker 1: six and as always, man, this is one of the
- 3:05Speaker 1: most underrated receivers in this league. Monroe st Brown out
- 3:09Speaker 1: the USC has six receptions for ninety six yards. So
- 3:12Speaker 1: you look at all that that happened during this game,
- 3:15Speaker 1: and you gotta respect these dudes. We know the Vikings
- 3:17Speaker 1: have a high powered offense. We know the lines have
- 3:20Speaker 1: a high powered offense. We'll talk about where the rankings
- 3:22Speaker 1: are here, but respect this team. Here's the head to
- 3:26Speaker 1: head comparison. Let's talk about this offense. You look at
- 3:29Speaker 1: just fins offense right number three overall, four hundred and
- 3:32Speaker 1: nine yards per game running the rock category that the
- 3:35Speaker 1: Hawks will struggle with a little bit right, one hundred
- 3:37Speaker 1: and seventy yards per game. That's third pass offense. There
- 3:40Speaker 1: are sixteen but points per game. They will put points
- 3:43Speaker 1: on the scoreboard, thirty one points per game. Hawks better
- 3:47Speaker 1: come ready to play. Yeah, those numbers jump off, and
- 3:50Speaker 1: we've been seeing this week about waiting a little bit
- 3:52Speaker 1: of time. Through three games, there's enough data out there
- 3:54Speaker 1: that there's some validity in some of these numbers. Doesn't
- 3:57Speaker 1: mean teams can't get better, it can't get worse, but
- 3:59Speaker 1: there's something behind them a little bit. And you see
- 4:00Speaker 1: a third ranked rushing offense. You see number two putting
- 4:03Speaker 1: up points per game. This is an offensive not to
- 4:05Speaker 1: mess with. They're doing some really good things, you know.
- 4:07Speaker 1: On the up flip side, the Seahawks are kind of
- 4:09Speaker 1: finding the forty nine ers game really torpedo to any
- 4:12Speaker 1: offensive numbers. In terms of comparison to the rest of
- 4:14Speaker 1: the league. They rank at twenty eighth in total offense
- 4:17Speaker 1: right now twenty ninth and rush offense twenty first, and
- 4:20Speaker 1: pass offense and points per game they're tied for twenty eighth.
- 4:23Speaker 1: So when you don't score any points in Week two offensively,
- 4:26Speaker 1: of course your numbers aren't going to look well. So
- 4:27Speaker 1: the Seahawks definitely trying to catch the lines in those numbers.
- 4:30Speaker 1: But when you flip it over the defensive side, bump
- 4:33Speaker 1: the Lions, that's kind of where they come back to
- 4:34Speaker 1: earth a little bit. They're giving up a ton of
- 4:36Speaker 1: yards four hundred yards per game, that's twenty eighth. They're
- 4:40Speaker 1: giving up one hundred and forty two yards on the ground,
- 4:42Speaker 1: they're giving up two hundred sixty five yards through the air,
- 4:45Speaker 1: that's twenty fifth in the league. And they're allowing a
- 4:47Speaker 1: ton of points. So they're scoring a bunch of points,
- 4:50Speaker 1: but they're giving up a ton of points. Last in
- 4:51Speaker 1: the league given up thirty one points per game. So
- 4:54Speaker 1: obviously there's good players on that defensive unit. But they're
- 4:57Speaker 1: a young defense and there's definitely some room to improve.
- 4:59Speaker 1: From a line standpoint. Yeah, you look at those numbers.
- 5:02Speaker 1: The lines are like, cool, we'll put up four hundred yards,
- 5:04Speaker 1: we'll give up four hundred yards. Cool, we'll put up
- 5:06Speaker 1: thirty points. We'll give up thirty points. So it's um it.
- 5:10Speaker 1: This is a game that has the potential to be
- 5:14Speaker 1: some type of a shootout. We didn't expect that with
- 5:16Speaker 1: the Atlanta Falcons. We thought it'd be a low scoring game.
- 5:20Speaker 1: But with this, when you look at the numbers, you
- 5:21Speaker 1: expect the high scoring game. But you know how this
- 5:23Speaker 1: game goes. Man, it's the NFL. You never know what
- 5:25Speaker 1: you're gonna get stat leaders for each team. You look
- 5:28Speaker 1: at Swift, who I don't think it's playing this week.
- 5:31Speaker 1: He has He leads the team with two hundred and
- 5:33Speaker 1: thirty one the rushing yard for the Lions, of course,
- 5:35Speaker 1: you got a Monroe Saint Brown doing his thing over there,
- 5:39Speaker 1: leading in receptions and reception yards. And then for the Seahawks,
- 5:42Speaker 1: Pennies leading away with one forty one on the ground,
- 5:45Speaker 1: Gino seven seventeen through the air, and uh well, distlely
- 5:49Speaker 1: Man got two receiving touchdowns for the Seattle Seahawks. It's
- 5:54Speaker 1: a it's a beautiful thing, and then it makes you
- 5:57Speaker 1: curious a bit too, because you want the tight end
- 5:59Speaker 1: to get involve. Uncle, Will two touchdowns, that's what's up.
- 6:01Speaker 1: But you're also like, all right, all right, lock it, okay, dk'
- 6:05Speaker 1: let's get these guys some some red zone touches as well. Absolutely,
- 6:08Speaker 1: I mean it's great, like you said, will this so
- 6:09Speaker 1: you love the spread the ball around you for the
- 6:11Speaker 1: tight ends and be involved. But when you think of scoring,
- 6:13Speaker 1: you're thinking of two guys like you said, number fourteen,
- 6:15Speaker 1: number sixteen. Those are the thing I did in touchdown,
- 6:17Speaker 1: DK metcalf I believe had twelve touchdowns last season, So
- 6:20Speaker 1: those are the guys you want to get really more
- 6:22Speaker 1: involved in the scoring part. I know they will. It's
- 6:24Speaker 1: early in the season, so hopefully those get you lifted up.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Trek Willen checking in with the one interception on defenses here,
- 6:31Speaker 1: which is good. Hopefully those numbers go up as well.
- 6:33Speaker 1: So pretty balanced there. Hoping the Seahawks and kind of
- 6:36Speaker 1: figure some things out this week. They kind of started
- 6:39Speaker 1: that process against the Falcons. I feel like they're well
- 6:41Speaker 1: on their way. But these teams are pretty familiar with
- 6:43Speaker 1: each other in recent years. Let's know the history, no
- 6:47Speaker 1: your history. Seahawks lead the all time series eleven to five.
- 6:51Speaker 1: One to know in the postseason. Seahawks have won seven
- 6:54Speaker 1: of the last eight meetings against the Lions and last
- 6:56Speaker 1: year Bomb it was in Week seventeen, towards the end
- 6:58Speaker 1: of the year. It was a week of snow, I
- 7:00Speaker 1: believe at Looming Fields. It was kind of tough to
- 7:02Speaker 1: get around. He saw that with a crowd, but the
- 7:05Speaker 1: Seahawks won big in the final home game of twenty
- 7:07Speaker 1: twenty one, beating the lines fifty one to twenty nine.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Seahawks were rolling on offense and now it's kind of
- 7:12Speaker 1: the first time last year that they had looked fully
- 7:14Speaker 1: normal after Russell Wilson's finger injury. Penny Rashot Penny went
- 7:18Speaker 1: off one hundred seventy yards, twenty five carries, two touchdowns.
- 7:22Speaker 1: DK was balling two had three touchdowns. Russell Wilson had
- 7:25Speaker 1: four touchdowns on the day. Some more guys that have
- 7:27Speaker 1: no longer here. DJ Reid had two interceptions. Hugomadi also
- 7:30Speaker 1: got a pick, and the fifty one points were the
- 7:33Speaker 1: third most had looked his up, third most points the
- 7:36Speaker 1: Seahawks have scored in franchise history. Wow, I did not
- 7:39Speaker 1: know that. I don't remember that at the time. So
- 7:41Speaker 1: that fifty one burger was a big one for them,
- 7:43Speaker 1: but one of the bright spots. And again we'll continue
- 7:46Speaker 1: to talk about him a man up. But Detroit, my
- 7:48Speaker 1: mom Ross Saint Brown was rookie last year in that game,
- 7:51Speaker 1: eight receptions, one hundred and eleven yards in one touchdown.
- 7:54Speaker 1: So hopefully we see a little bit more of the same.
- 7:56Speaker 1: I would love to see fifty points on the scoreboard
- 7:58Speaker 1: down there at Ford Field for the Seahawks. So that
- 8:01Speaker 1: was the last time. But let's go around the NFC
- 8:03Speaker 1: West what's the word the Seahawks or the NFC West Champs? Again,
- 8:12Speaker 1: what's the word in the West? On Hot Talk? It's
- 8:18Speaker 1: pretty out West. The Los Angeles Rams are on top
- 8:21Speaker 1: of the division at two and one. Everyone else one
- 8:24Speaker 1: and two Frisco Cardinals, Seahawks. Everybody is knotted up. And
- 8:30Speaker 1: now we're gonna focus on the Rams and the Cardinals.
- 8:33Speaker 1: At the Rams that has been dominant against the Cardinals. Man,
- 8:36Speaker 1: they secured a twenty to twelve victory, making it the
- 8:39Speaker 1: eleventh victory out of the last twelve games dating back
- 8:42Speaker 1: to twenty seven. Team that is dominant right there. Now,
- 8:46Speaker 1: it wasn't pretty, but it felt like the Rams were
- 8:48Speaker 1: pretty much in control of the whole game. They jump
- 8:50Speaker 1: out to a thirteen oh league Cooper Cup has a
- 8:52Speaker 1: rushing touchdown. You know he's gonna score every single game,
- 8:55Speaker 1: and the Cardinals just couldn't score touchdowns. Four field goals
- 8:58Speaker 1: by Mad Prayer. If that is your fantasy kicker, good
- 9:01Speaker 1: for you. You got a lot of points. But if
- 9:03Speaker 1: you had Kyler Murray, it wasn't that great. Now. The
- 9:05Speaker 1: Carlos won the time possession and out gained the Rams
- 9:08Speaker 1: and had the first downs to them. They had drives
- 9:10Speaker 1: of nineteen play sixteen plays, twelve play seventeen plays, but
- 9:14Speaker 1: had to settle for field goals. That has to be frustrated.
- 9:17Speaker 1: You're putting together drives like that. You're thinking, Okay, the
- 9:20Speaker 1: offense is moving, were clicking, but at the moment of truth,
- 9:23Speaker 1: you had to put it on the foot. Now, the
- 9:26Speaker 1: game would have been over sooner, but camakers phone was
- 9:29Speaker 1: on the one yard line when the Rams could have
- 9:31Speaker 1: gone up twenty seven to nine. Now let's focus on
- 9:34Speaker 1: Kyler Murray. Right, the two hundred million dollars men thirty
- 9:38Speaker 1: seven to fifty eight, three to fourteen, but had no
- 9:41Speaker 1: touchdowns and only eight rushing yards eight rushing yards, no touchdowns.
- 9:46Speaker 1: That don't sound like Kyler Murray. Oh not at all.
- 9:49Speaker 1: When when you said it, I had to like, I
- 9:51Speaker 1: didn't even believe myself when I saw they had drives
- 9:53Speaker 1: of nineteen, seventeen twelve. How that's that is incredibly hard
- 9:58Speaker 1: to do to not score touch jowns nineteen play drive
- 10:01Speaker 1: is seventeen play drive. I mean those are gonna be
- 10:04Speaker 1: their longest drides of the season, hands down, both in
- 10:07Speaker 1: the same game. And then when you see those stats,
- 10:08Speaker 1: you're assuming on drives that long. Colin Murray's doing something
- 10:11Speaker 1: When he fifty eight times, they're throwing that thing man
- 10:14Speaker 1: fifty eight times, probably a little often on the ratio,
- 10:18Speaker 1: but that's kind of how the game was going. But
- 10:20Speaker 1: it's they're not gonna win. I'll put it this way.
- 10:22Speaker 1: They're not gonna win any games with when Murray does
- 10:25Speaker 1: not have touchdowns and rushing yards. I just the way
- 10:29Speaker 1: that they're built, everything kind of goes through him. He's
- 10:31Speaker 1: such a playmaker in the open space, scrambling, making plays.
- 10:34Speaker 1: If he doesn't have any touchdowns and he's not producing
- 10:36Speaker 1: that way, I don't think they win games. So definitely
- 10:38Speaker 1: will be interesting to see. The one bright spot for
- 10:40Speaker 1: if you're the Cardinals is that Cooper Cup somehow was
- 10:42Speaker 1: held to a modest four reception for forty four yards.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Did have that rushing touchdown, But I also promise you
- 10:48Speaker 1: that's probably gonna be his lowest that line of the
- 10:50Speaker 1: year too, for sure. You know, you know Cooper Cup,
- 10:54Speaker 1: he goes for eight at least one hundred at least
- 10:57Speaker 1: and a couple of tidies. I guess. A bright spot
- 11:00Speaker 1: for the Cardinals was the Marquis Brown Hollywood. He had
- 11:03Speaker 1: fourteen for one forty. But they got a couple guys
- 11:06Speaker 1: on injury list too, though. Man, you got Rundale who's out.
- 11:08Speaker 1: Sounds like a J. Green is gonna be out. So
- 11:10Speaker 1: they're gonna have to lean on a Hollywood Brown more
- 11:14Speaker 1: and more than this year for sure. Now switching gears
- 11:17Speaker 1: in that same division, the forty nine ers through at
- 11:20Speaker 1: the Broncos. Now, anyone who's in Seattle had vested interest
- 11:24Speaker 1: in this game, you know, licking your wounds at the
- 11:26Speaker 1: Seahawks lost to the Falcons, and you're thinking, Okay, the
- 11:29Speaker 1: Broncos come in. They've looked horrible offensively, miss man, just
- 11:32Speaker 1: clock one and one coming into forty nine ers who
- 11:35Speaker 1: just play looked really good against you. And obviously there's
- 11:37Speaker 1: a rooting interest. You don't want the forty Niners win
- 11:39Speaker 1: because it's a division rival. You don't want the Broncos
- 11:41Speaker 1: to win, because the other guy playing quarterback for them
- 11:44Speaker 1: now who's not playing for you anymore? And because and
- 11:46Speaker 1: really my interest right here is the draft pick, draft picks.
- 11:49Speaker 1: I could care less about Russell Wilson. I care about
- 11:51Speaker 1: that draft picks. So and you know, if they lost
- 11:53Speaker 1: every game, I wouldn't be mad, you know what I'm saying.
- 11:55Speaker 1: But anyway, this was another game that wasn't pretty. Broncos
- 11:59Speaker 1: barely slip by winning eleven ten. In this game feature
- 12:02Speaker 1: a lot of punts, bump Broncos punted nine of their
- 12:05Speaker 1: first eleven possessions. First of all, they're having all kinds
- 12:09Speaker 1: of possession. That's how you know it's a bad game,
- 12:10Speaker 1: because everyone had all kinds of possessions. But to their credit,
- 12:14Speaker 1: into Russell's credit, when the games on the line, the
- 12:16Speaker 1: Broncos did come down with a big twelve play eighty
- 12:19Speaker 1: yard drive ending with the Melvin Gordon touchdown, went for
- 12:21Speaker 1: twoting get it, leaving the score eleven to ten with
- 12:24Speaker 1: four minutes left. Then Jimmy g was picked off in
- 12:27Speaker 1: the ensuing drive at midfield, essentially ending the game. They
- 12:30Speaker 1: did get the ball back, but Jeff Wilson Junior fumbled,
- 12:32Speaker 1: you know, erasing any chances of a miracle comeback now,
- 12:36Speaker 1: bump Man. The quarterback play was pretty rough in this one. Yeah,
- 12:40Speaker 1: it was bad. It was bad. Guy Russell. He got
- 12:43Speaker 1: the game. He won the game right, beautiful back shoulder
- 12:46Speaker 1: throw to kind of set up that run by Melvin Gordon.
- 12:48Speaker 1: But throughout the game. He struggled twenty of thirty three,
- 12:51Speaker 1: one eighty four, no touchdowns, no interceptions, took care of
- 12:54Speaker 1: the run for the most part, but Legal sacked four
- 12:57Speaker 1: and was a part of nine red in ounts. It
- 13:01Speaker 1: has to be one of the ugliest games in Russell
- 13:04Speaker 1: Wilson's career, but he wins. And I think that's what
- 13:09Speaker 1: what you can always kount of what Russell was that
- 13:10Speaker 1: no matter what happens, he still thinks at the end
- 13:12Speaker 1: of the game, they have a chance to win if
- 13:15Speaker 1: he has a ball in his hands. And he did that.
- 13:17Speaker 1: On the other side, Jimmy g rough Day, I saw
- 13:20Speaker 1: him against the the Seahawks, and I'm like, man, he might,
- 13:22Speaker 1: you know, have tapped into something. But he goes eighteen
- 13:24Speaker 1: for twenty nine, two eleven and one touchdown, but had
- 13:27Speaker 1: a critical interception late and he did a dan Olovsky
- 13:31Speaker 1: back at the end zone they put they put big
- 13:34Speaker 1: white paint there for reasons so you know exactly where
- 13:38Speaker 1: you are at. My man was lost. Man, the field
- 13:41Speaker 1: awareness sixty on that play. Oh yeah, that all that all?
- 13:44Speaker 1: Don't they upgrade the Madden ratings live now, you know
- 13:47Speaker 1: what I'm saying. So, yeah, someone's gotta take a little
- 13:50Speaker 1: hit on that one for sure, But at the end
- 13:53Speaker 1: of the day, it was three turnovers decided the game.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Deebo Samuel he did pretty good though, five receptions and
- 13:58Speaker 1: seventy three yards. Jeff Wilson Jr. And Man you know,
- 14:00Speaker 1: had that critical fumble, did add seventy five yards on
- 14:02Speaker 1: the ground. So again something to continue to watch. Those
- 14:05Speaker 1: Broncos are going to I want to say, they're playing
- 14:08Speaker 1: the Raiders next week, so we'll see what happens there.
- 14:10Speaker 1: So that's what happened around the NFC West. Now it's
- 14:13Speaker 1: signed to get back into the Lions tided. The man
- 14:15Speaker 1: up is this man up on Hawk Talk Quarterbacks where
- 14:26Speaker 1: we start every week. We're looking at Jared Goffs, someone
- 14:29Speaker 1: that Seahawk fans are very familiar with all the time
- 14:32Speaker 1: he spent playing with the Los Angeles Rams. Jared goff
- 14:35Speaker 1: is entering his second season with the Lions and helping
- 14:37Speaker 1: improve on a decent twenty twenty one. He threw for
- 14:40Speaker 1: three thousand, two hundred and forty four yards with nineteen
- 14:42Speaker 1: touchdowns and eight interceptions. Was also shat quite a bit
- 14:45Speaker 1: thirty five times, you know. On the positive note, it
- 14:48Speaker 1: was a third time in his career where he only
- 14:49Speaker 1: had single digit interceptions. So he's doing a better job
- 14:52Speaker 1: of taking care of the football, which is good for him.
- 14:54Speaker 1: And we know when Goff's in the right situation he
- 14:56Speaker 1: can be pretty good. And the Rams Super Bowl year
- 14:58Speaker 1: he went crazy twenty eighteen pass for over fourteen hundred,
- 15:02Speaker 1: four thousand and six hundred yards, thirty two touchdowns. This
- 15:05Speaker 1: year modest but still good. Sixty six and one hundred
- 15:08Speaker 1: and twelve seven hundred and forty eight yards, seven touchdowns
- 15:11Speaker 1: and two interceptions. And you know, this offense, this is
- 15:14Speaker 1: a crazy thing. We were talking about. Good this offenses.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Jerry Goff has led this offense. And they started the
- 15:19Speaker 1: season with a touchdown and eleven straight quarters, which is
- 15:21Speaker 1: in the NFL record people playing this game for a
- 15:24Speaker 1: long time. So they scored a touchdown in every quarter.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Unfortunately for them, the street got snapped in the worst
- 15:29Speaker 1: possible time, which is a fourth quarter against the Vikings
- 15:32Speaker 1: last weekend. Again that they lost, but that just shows
- 15:34Speaker 1: you they're consistent, they're moving the rock and there doing
- 15:36Speaker 1: good things on offense. Yeah. Man, good for Jared Goff.
- 15:39Speaker 1: People kind of wrote him off and he's not a
- 15:43Speaker 1: flashy type of player. But it goes to show you
- 15:45Speaker 1: give him a run game, we give him a couple receivers,
- 15:47Speaker 1: things could happen. All right, Let's look at Geno Smith
- 15:50Speaker 1: versus the Detroit Lions defense. Another week of Geno being efficient,
- 15:55Speaker 1: leads NFL and completing percentage at seventy seven percent. And
- 15:58Speaker 1: then he's also seventh in qb raid but one hundred
- 16:01Speaker 1: point a. He threw for three d of yards for
- 16:02Speaker 1: only the fourth time in his career, the first time.
- 16:05Speaker 1: She is twenty fourteen. He's tapping into the found the youth.
- 16:08Speaker 1: That's good to see. Overall, in twenty twenty, twenty seventy
- 16:11Speaker 1: nine of one or two, seven hundred and seventeen yards,
- 16:13Speaker 1: four touchdowns, two interceptions, and the offense looked like it
- 16:17Speaker 1: opened up a bit. That was a question, like what
- 16:19Speaker 1: is opening up the offense look like for Gino and
- 16:21Speaker 1: the Seahawks. To me, it looks like tight ends getting
- 16:25Speaker 1: the football, scoring touchdowns. It looks like getting number fourteen
- 16:28Speaker 1: involved getting his first touchdown, Tyler Lockett intermediate routes doing
- 16:32Speaker 1: his thing, and then initially coming out that very first drive,
- 16:35Speaker 1: they established the run, so they opened up the offense
- 16:38Speaker 1: the lines are twenty eighth and total defense. We talked
- 16:41Speaker 1: about this earlier given the form in eight yards, they
- 16:43Speaker 1: give up thirty one points per game last in the NFL.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Let's score some points. Let's keep this offense open, no
- 16:49Speaker 1: question about it. They're proving that they're struggling stopping people
- 16:53Speaker 1: right now, and with Gino and Shane calling a great
- 16:56Speaker 1: game last week, I expect big things and I'm looking
- 16:58Speaker 1: forward to because I think Gino released command of this
- 17:00Speaker 1: team in this offense right now, and there's only stuff
- 17:02Speaker 1: to build on from last week. Now the running game,
- 17:05Speaker 1: this is a big, big time matchup because we alluded
- 17:07Speaker 1: to how good the Lions are running the football. They
- 17:09Speaker 1: got a two added monster at running back that's DeAndre
- 17:12Speaker 1: Swift and Jamal Williams. So we mentioned Dejandre Swift is
- 17:15Speaker 1: most liking gonna be out this week. We haven't got
- 17:17Speaker 1: the official word. He's been day to day, but I
- 17:19Speaker 1: believe Dan Campbell said today at his press conference that
- 17:22Speaker 1: it would take he would have to be significantly better
- 17:24Speaker 1: than he is right now, because I believe he was
- 17:25Speaker 1: dealing with an ankle injury and now he has the shoulder.
- 17:29Speaker 1: But Swift is kind of what's been one of their
- 17:31Speaker 1: best players last two years. Last year at six hundred
- 17:33Speaker 1: and seventeen yards on one hundred and fifty one carries
- 17:36Speaker 1: and five touchdowns. Also a big thread out of the
- 17:38Speaker 1: backfield of catching the ball four hundred and fifty two
- 17:40Speaker 1: receiving yards and two more touchdowns. So the guy that's
- 17:43Speaker 1: probably gonna take a majority of the war because Jamal Williams,
- 17:45Speaker 1: who's another great back, had six hundred and one yards,
- 17:48Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty three carries and three touchdowns last year.
- 17:51Speaker 1: This year, the Lions are the third best for rushing
- 17:54Speaker 1: attack in the National Football League. So far, Jamal Williams
- 17:57Speaker 1: is forty three carries, one hundred and sixty eight yards
- 17:59Speaker 1: in war touchdowns. Now, bump that being said, we know
- 18:03Speaker 1: the Sehawks have struggled to stop the run in the
- 18:05Speaker 1: last two weeks. There's no secret there. This is gonna
- 18:08Speaker 1: be I think I'm alluded to a little bit last
- 18:10Speaker 1: week without it. Without question again, I think this might
- 18:12Speaker 1: be the biggest matchup this weekend is how the Seahawks
- 18:14Speaker 1: bounce back and fix them the little things, because if
- 18:16Speaker 1: they don't, the Lions will continue to try to attack
- 18:19Speaker 1: and exploit that rush defense. Yeah, unfortunately Patterson went for
- 18:23Speaker 1: one forty. He got a NFC Offensive Player of the Week.
- 18:26Speaker 1: We don't need that. We don't need to contribute to
- 18:28Speaker 1: any more of that nonsense. And it starts this week
- 18:32Speaker 1: a matchup. You know, I'm gonna be looking at Lusson
- 18:34Speaker 1: receiver in cornerback battles. He got a Monroe Saint Brown
- 18:37Speaker 1: and Josh Reynolds for the Lions. Forst Tariq Woolling and
- 18:40Speaker 1: Mike Jackson. A Monroe Saint Brown didn't come into the
- 18:43Speaker 1: league with a lot of hype. Fourth round pick out
- 18:45Speaker 1: of USC in twenty twenty twenty at ninety receptions for
- 18:48Speaker 1: nine to twelve and five touchdowns. He also had seven
- 18:50Speaker 1: carries for sixty one yards and a touchdown. And this
- 18:53Speaker 1: season he's doing his thing again twenty three receptions, two
- 18:56Speaker 1: fifty three and three touchdowns. He had a streak of
- 18:58Speaker 1: a games with at least eight receptions, but that was
- 19:01Speaker 1: snapped on Sunday against the Vikings. That streak began last December,
- 19:05Speaker 1: tied for the longest streak in history. So we just said, okay,
- 19:08Speaker 1: they scored him eleven straight quarters and then they have
- 19:11Speaker 1: a receiver who's had eight receptions in eight straight games. Offensively,
- 19:16Speaker 1: you know that they're gonna be able to do some things.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Then you got Josh Reynolds. He's the secondly receiver for
- 19:20Speaker 1: the team. He has ten for one sixty two and
- 19:23Speaker 1: one touchdown. But here's where it's gonna be tough for them.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Tariq Woolling is figuring this thing out. He had his
- 19:28Speaker 1: first interception against the Atlanta Falcons. According to Pro Football Reference,
- 19:32Speaker 1: he's allowing thirty three percent passer rating when targeted. That's
- 19:35Speaker 1: pretty good. Then the other side, you got Mike Jackson,
- 19:38Speaker 1: who's played pretty good so far this year as well.
- 19:41Speaker 1: He's been flagged four times, but he's learning. It's yes,
- 19:45Speaker 1: since his fourth year in the league, hasn't got the
- 19:47Speaker 1: reps that he's gotten. But I like where these two
- 19:50Speaker 1: are going. I didn't expect these two to be the starters.
- 19:52Speaker 1: I thought it was gonna be like Sidney Jones, maybe
- 19:54Speaker 1: Trey Brown. But Tariq Woolling and Mike Jackson are surprising
- 19:58Speaker 1: a lot of folks and playing good. Yeah. Love to
- 20:00Speaker 1: see what we're seeing from them. And it's gonna be
- 20:01Speaker 1: interesting next couple weeks because that cornerback room is going
- 20:03Speaker 1: to continue to get healthier. Head coach pet Carroll talked
- 20:06Speaker 1: about his press conference today that Trey Brown is a
- 20:08Speaker 1: couple of weeks away, obviously has to stay out for
- 20:10Speaker 1: an extend amount of time because he went on the
- 20:11Speaker 1: pup list, but and then already Burns is looking to
- 20:14Speaker 1: be healthy for the first time. So every everything is
- 20:17Speaker 1: with those rookies, you know, rookies, Tariq the rookie, Mike Jackson,
- 20:20Speaker 1: a player that doesn't had a ton of raps. With
- 20:22Speaker 1: those guys playing well, and then you add more competition
- 20:24Speaker 1: in the room, it only makes things better. So looking
- 20:26Speaker 1: forward to that. Now, we'll keep it with your receivers.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus, DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, taken on Armani and
- 20:34Speaker 1: Jeff Akuda. I just just left it at Armani seeing
- 20:39Speaker 1: the pronunciation guy yet so home would just leave it
- 20:41Speaker 1: there Armanio. You know what I'm saying. Guarantee somebody calls
- 20:44Speaker 1: him that. Oh yeah, guarantee. Oh I'm sure. M DK
- 20:48Speaker 1: Bump was incredibly involved in the sense of he was targeted.
- 20:52Speaker 1: It was a focal point that had to have been
- 20:53Speaker 1: a check on the box for Shane Waldron and this
- 20:55Speaker 1: often to try to get him more involved. He has
- 20:57Speaker 1: targeted twelve times, ended the game with five or set
- 21:00Speaker 1: sixty four yards in his first touchdown on the year.
- 21:03Speaker 1: So far this year combined, he's got sixteen catches for
- 21:06Speaker 1: one hundred thirty five yards in one touchdown Tart. Lockett's
- 21:08Speaker 1: had another great week two second week and Row He's
- 21:11Speaker 1: had nine receptions. He's doing his thing. So those two
- 21:14Speaker 1: combined were targeted twenty three times on Sunday. That's a
- 21:18Speaker 1: good recipe for success moving forward. I think in my
- 21:20Speaker 1: opinion on which the more targets the better. Now is
- 21:25Speaker 1: the efficiency title? Lockett is always efficient. I want to
- 21:29Speaker 1: say career rise. He's He's no lower than seventy percent
- 21:32Speaker 1: completion rate when you throw the football to him. With DK,
- 21:35Speaker 1: it was more it's more about volume. I'm just glad
- 21:38Speaker 1: they made it a point to focus on his dude
- 21:41Speaker 1: for sure, and then defensively the guys are going against
- 21:45Speaker 1: so Akuda was a third over. I'll pick people forgetting
- 21:47Speaker 1: twenty twenty draft. When you're when you're picked that high,
- 21:51Speaker 1: there's heavy expectations. But he's been banged up the first
- 21:54Speaker 1: two seasons. He had a season ending groin injury. And
- 21:57Speaker 1: then he messed up as Achilles, so he had to
- 22:00Speaker 1: win the battle in camp this year and now he's
- 22:02Speaker 1: are starting. You know. On the other side, he's got
- 22:04Speaker 1: fourteen tacks and two passes defended. And I think DK
- 22:08Speaker 1: got asked about him today and then they were kind
- 22:11Speaker 1: of asking him because I feel like, you know, an
- 22:13Speaker 1: article came out today, I believe it was on Pro
- 22:15Speaker 1: Football Focus or somewhere showing how he matched up against
- 22:17Speaker 1: Justin Jefferson and Jefferson didn't have a lot of catches
- 22:20Speaker 1: last week, and how he might have taken him away,
- 22:23Speaker 1: which maybe slawy your role. Anytime Justin Jefferson isn't getting
- 22:26Speaker 1: the ball, there's got to be other factors involved than
- 22:29Speaker 1: someone just locking him up. And DK wasn't throwing any shade.
- 22:32Speaker 1: He was just kind of like, well, I don't know
- 22:33Speaker 1: if he's shutting people down. He's a good corner, but
- 22:34Speaker 1: he's always got safety help over top. So it'll be
- 22:37Speaker 1: interesting this matchup this week. And on the other side, Armanio,
- 22:42Speaker 1: like I Ramani, he's coming. He's coming up a great
- 22:45Speaker 1: season at six interceptions last year, third in the NFL.
- 22:48Speaker 1: Except last week, boy Adam Thalen got after him. He
- 22:51Speaker 1: was called for six penalties, four legal contacts, one holding,
- 22:55Speaker 1: one PI. That's rough man. So if you were Tyler
- 22:59Speaker 1: Locke Bump, if you're seeing this, you're watching film and
- 23:02Speaker 1: you'r DK and your Tyler, you gotta be locking your chops.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Not saying these aren't good players, but if you're seeing
- 23:06Speaker 1: someone who has six penalties in one game, there's obviously
- 23:08Speaker 1: something that's not going right in that facet of the game.
- 23:11Speaker 1: Oh yeah, something ain't right, and I'm gonna attack him
- 23:13Speaker 1: physically and I might say something too, But for the
- 23:15Speaker 1: game they'll be holding me man, and they got like
- 23:17Speaker 1: six penalties, Like, I'm gonna mention something to him, little gamesmanship,
- 23:21Speaker 1: and then I'm roam a little gamesmanship, you know what
- 23:23Speaker 1: I'm saying. Next matchup, we're looking at the young and
- 23:26Speaker 1: see young guys on the line. Are gonna go at it.
- 23:29Speaker 1: You got Aiden Hutchinson and Abe Lucas. Hutchinson was drafted
- 23:32Speaker 1: second overall in this past draft. So far, Man his
- 23:36Speaker 1: first three NFL games, he has seven tackles, three sacks,
- 23:38Speaker 1: three QB hits, two TFLs. I mean, this dude is everywhere.
- 23:43Speaker 1: He is good as advertised. I wondered what that game.
- 23:46Speaker 1: You always wonder what the transition is gonna be, like,
- 23:48Speaker 1: like can you be that dominant player you were a
- 23:50Speaker 1: Michigan and bringing that over to the NFL. And we
- 23:53Speaker 1: got a sneak peek at him looking on hard knocks.
- 23:58Speaker 1: You see his personality too, So I was like, man
- 24:00Speaker 1: and I like to do man like he can ball
- 24:02Speaker 1: and I like his personality. But this week, man, we
- 24:04Speaker 1: need our tackles to hold up against them. Right. So far,
- 24:07Speaker 1: in three games and one hundred seventy five snaps, Charles
- 24:09Speaker 1: Cross has allowed three sacks and abe pressures. Abe Lucas
- 24:13Speaker 1: one hundred seventy five snaps, allowed zero sacks and seven pressures.
- 24:17Speaker 1: We haven't been saying these guys names a lot, right.
- 24:21Speaker 1: I think against the forty nine ers, Abe had a
- 24:24Speaker 1: costly penalty being down the field negated DK Metcalfs big catch.
- 24:29Speaker 1: But other than that, I mean, they're not doing more
- 24:31Speaker 1: or less than what a veteran would be doing at
- 24:33Speaker 1: this point. Unless you're Walter Jones, you don't ever have
- 24:34Speaker 1: any any penalties or anything like that, which we ain't
- 24:37Speaker 1: gonna see one of those in a while. I think
- 24:39Speaker 1: they're they're playing okay for being some rookies, no question
- 24:42Speaker 1: about it. You said, we're not saying, we're not talking
- 24:43Speaker 1: about them, and that which is great. Anytime you're not
- 24:45Speaker 1: talking about the offensive line is a good thing. That's
- 24:47Speaker 1: just kind of the nature of the beast. Even when
- 24:48Speaker 1: they're doing a great job, you don't hear from a
- 24:50Speaker 1: lot and it's a learning curve. They have three sacks
- 24:53Speaker 1: a lot between two of them. People are starting two
- 24:55Speaker 1: rookie tackles in the National Football League. I mean that's insane.
- 24:58Speaker 1: That's insane, and you know, going up against the likes
- 25:00Speaker 1: of Joey Bosa and some of the other good guys
- 25:02Speaker 1: in this league, I'm really impressed with those two. So
- 25:05Speaker 1: it'll be fun to watch the rookies go up against
- 25:07Speaker 1: each other. You know, eight and hunches will move around
- 25:09Speaker 1: a little bit, so it'll be interesting to see two
- 25:11Speaker 1: top ten picks kind of duking it out up. But
- 25:14Speaker 1: all right, it is that time. We need to figure
- 25:16Speaker 1: out how the Seahawks can get back in the win
- 25:19Speaker 1: column path to victory. At the forty five, waits for
- 25:24Speaker 1: the snaff, Michael Vickson puts it down. That kick is away,
- 25:27Speaker 1: and that kick is gone. It's gone. It's a pass
- 25:33Speaker 1: to victory. On Hawk Talk, how are the Seaws can
- 25:35Speaker 1: get this done? Michael Bumpus, They're gonna get it done
- 25:38Speaker 1: by stopping the run. We know they can do it.
- 25:41Speaker 1: We know that's something that's in the DNA. That is
- 25:43Speaker 1: a DNA that any Pete Carroll coach football team is
- 25:46Speaker 1: stopping the run. It starts up front with the big
- 25:47Speaker 1: guys up front. They've allowed you know, they're allowing one
- 25:50Speaker 1: hundred and fifty seven yards per game, and teams are
- 25:52Speaker 1: gonna continue to run the ball until they get that
- 25:54Speaker 1: figured out. And I think another week they're going to
- 25:56Speaker 1: get it figured out. It's little things here and there.
- 25:59Speaker 1: It's not eleven guys screwing up on every play. It's
- 26:02Speaker 1: one thing here, one thing there, and one little mistake
- 26:05Speaker 1: can lead to a four yard run by Patterson can
- 26:07Speaker 1: lead to an eighteen yard touchdown. So if they can
- 26:09Speaker 1: clean up those little things, they're right there. I have
- 26:12Speaker 1: full confidence. So they're can get that figured out this week. Yep,
- 26:15Speaker 1: they're gonna clean it up. And if they do that,
- 26:16Speaker 1: they will eliminate the explosive plays. I saw at least
- 26:20Speaker 1: two or three players against the Falcons on third and
- 26:22Speaker 1: long where it's a twenty six yard game, twenty nine
- 26:24Speaker 1: yard game. You got a big run by Patterson to
- 26:27Speaker 1: kind of seal the deal, seventeen yard run for a touchdown.
- 26:30Speaker 1: It's all explosives. Like this team plays good at times
- 26:32Speaker 1: and then there's one or two plays that kind of
- 26:34Speaker 1: derail things. So that to eliminated plays and then play
- 26:38Speaker 1: fast and aggressive on defense, you gotta find a way
- 26:42Speaker 1: to be disciplined but be loose at the same time
- 26:44Speaker 1: and just allow yourself to be the great athletes that
- 26:48Speaker 1: they are the best athletes in the world of my opinion.
- 26:51Speaker 1: Play defense, they just get after it. Yeah, no, I
- 26:53Speaker 1: love it. Play loose, play fast, man, get North South,
- 26:56Speaker 1: play fast. We love to see it. Hoping that gets
- 26:58Speaker 1: going on this week and keep DCA talent involved. In
- 27:00Speaker 1: love the amount of targets they got against Atlanta. I
- 27:02Speaker 1: think that's a winning recipe. It's just like you said,
- 27:04Speaker 1: figuring out the volume with DK and continue that efficiency
- 27:07Speaker 1: on both sides. So hoping they do that, and also
- 27:10Speaker 1: hoping keep the tight ends involved. They're having drives where
- 27:12Speaker 1: they're continuing to stretch the field and keeping that in
- 27:14Speaker 1: and kind of disguising what Shane Waldron's calling because they're
- 27:17Speaker 1: multiple and they're gonna hurt you in the past game
- 27:19Speaker 1: and the run game. So keep all those pass catchers
- 27:21Speaker 1: involved and it'll be a good recipe on Sunday. All right,
- 27:24Speaker 1: and let's get shot. Penny Going hasn't had a honey
- 27:26Speaker 1: yard game yet. Fourteen times last week. He looked good,
- 27:29Speaker 1: He looked fast, as he looked strong. Keep feeding that
- 27:32Speaker 1: young band is sprinkling a little ken Walker in there,
- 27:34Speaker 1: and I think they'll be all right, no question about
- 27:37Speaker 1: ken Walker had that nice reverse. Man. We're just seeing
- 27:39Speaker 1: bits and pieces, just a little bit that boy can play. Now, yes, sir,
- 27:43Speaker 1: that'll do it for us. You've been listening to Hawk
- 27:44Speaker 1: Talk the preview editions. Seahawks heading over to Detroit to
- 27:47Speaker 1: take on the lines this Sunday. It's gonna give me
- 27:49Speaker 1: an early one ten am Star seven Am on the
- 27:52Speaker 1: radio for the pregame show. Reminder, you can catch us
- 27:55Speaker 1: anywhere our Seahawks dot com, Apple podcast, Spotify, Stitcher, series XM,
- 27:59Speaker 1: and more. We'll be back with you guys next week,
- 28:02Speaker 1: hopefully talking about a Seahawk victory in Detroit. For Michael
- 28:05Speaker 1: Bambas on NASAHO. That's is Hawk talk We will talk
- 28:08Speaker 1: to you next week.
