- Lucas: Velkommen tilbage! Luna, I have a question for you. Luna: Okay, shoot. What is it? Lucas: You told me you have a brother, right? 'Jeg har en bror.' Luna: Yep, that's right. Jeg har en bror. Lucas: But what if you don't have one? How would you say that? Luna: Hmm... maybe 'Jeg har ikke en bror'? Lucas: Yes! Exactly. You just add 'ikke' after the verb. 'Jeg har ikke en bror.' Let's break it down: 'Jeg har' — 'I have', 'ikke' — 'not', 'en bror' — 'a brother'. So 'I don't have a brother.' Say it with me: Jeg har ikke en bror. Luna: Jeg har ikke en bror. Lucas: Good! And if you want to say 'I am not happy', you say 'Jeg er ikke glad.' Remember 'glad' means happy. So: Jeg er ikke glad. Luna: Jeg er ikke glad. That's easy. Lucas: Right. The pattern is: subject + verb + ikke + rest. Let's try another: 'It is not cold.' We learned 'koldt' means cold. So 'Det er ikke koldt.' Luna: Det er ikke koldt. That's useful for this weather. Lucas: And what about 'I cannot'? The verb 'kan' means can. So 'Jeg kan ikke.' Luna: Jeg kan ikke. Like 'I can't.' Lucas: Exactly. Now let's practice them all. Repeat after me: Jeg har ikke en bror. Luna: Jeg har ikke en bror. Lucas: Jeg er ikke glad. Luna: Jeg er ikke glad. Lucas: Det er ikke koldt. Luna: Det er ikke koldt. Lucas: Jeg kan ikke. Luna: Jeg kan ikke. Lucas: Great! Now let's use them in a tiny scene. Imagine you're at a party. Someone asks you if you have a brother. You say no: 'Nej, jeg har ikke en bror.' Then they ask if you're happy. You say: 'Nej, jeg er ikke glad.' Oh no! And then you say it's not cold, but you still can't dance: 'Det er ikke koldt, men jeg kan ikke danse.' Luna: that's a sad party! But I love how the pattern works. So it's always verb then ikke? Lucas: For simple sentences, yes. The verb comes second, and 'ikke' comes right after the verb. So 'Jeg spiser' becomes 'Jeg spiser ikke.' 'I eat' becomes 'I don't eat.' Easy. Luna: Jeg spiser ikke pizza i morgen. That's my new motto. Lucas: Awesome! Now, I want to take a moment. If Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with Danish, a couple of dollars a month is genuinely what keeps these going. Buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo, if you've gotten something out of them. It makes a real difference to keep the show ad-free. Luna: Yeah, it really does. We love making these, and it's thanks to listeners like you. Now, back to practice. Can we do a quick review of today's phrases? Lucas: Absolutely. I'll say them in Danish, you repeat. Jeg har ikke en bror. Luna: Jeg har ikke en bror. Lucas: Jeg er ikke glad. Luna: Jeg er ikke glad. Lucas: Det er ikke koldt. Luna: Det er ikke koldt. Lucas: Jeg kan ikke. Luna: Jeg kan ikke. Lucas: Perfect! So remember: to make a sentence negative, just add 'ikke' after the verb. Practice with words you know: 'Jeg har', 'Jeg er', 'Det er', 'Jeg kan'. Tak for i dag, and see you next time! Luna: Hej hej! Practice these and you'll be negating like a Dane in no time.
