- 0:52SPEAKER_02: And I can't wait because her recommendations are always on point, always amazing.
- 0:56SPEAKER_02: So welcome back to the show, Marissa.
- 0:58SPEAKER_02: I'm so honored to be hosting you again.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: Amazing.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: Thank you so much.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: It's perfect timing.
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: I'm a big fan for changing out your fragrances as you enter a new season.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: I think, you know, a great reason to build out your fragrance wardrobe.
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: So I hope that I can share some today that sound interesting for everybody.
- 1:16SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 1:16SPEAKER_02: No, you're truly the expert here.
- 1:18SPEAKER_02: And I'm going to really kind of um hand you the mic, you know, hand over the mic because I think that what we really want is this, you know, just a summary of what you think is the best approach this summer, you know, for the best fragrances that you've noticed, things that have come across your desk that you think are gonna be huge hitters this summer.
- 1:37SPEAKER_02: So if you could get us started with um, you know, just like an overview of what we look for in the summer in our fragrances and then some recommendations.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: Of course.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: So it's funny you say, you know, anything new because unintentionally I'm looking at my list and I'm realizing that four out of the five I'm gonna recommend are new launches.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: So that's fun at the same time.
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: You'll get a preview of new stuff.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: Um, but you know, it's really hard because obviously, you know, summer fragrances can go in a couple of different directions.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: Today I went primarily focused on the fresh category.
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: Um, I think, you know, the warmer weather, everybody's looking for something that's on the more refreshing side.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: Because if we're feeling hot and we're feeling dragged down, putting on a heavy fragrance is not going to help us.
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: So I definitely today focused on things that are gonna be light and bright and refreshing and give us a cooling state of mind because fragrance can have that effect on us, actually.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: So um I think starting off uh strong, I'm gonna talk about Aquamedia Cologne Forte from Maison Francis Kirchchen.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: Uh, this just launched, uh I think maybe a week ago.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: And if anyone follows the brand Maison Francis Kirkchen, I'm sure you have seen this beautiful, like aqua green bottle just kind of taking over social media um and selling, selling out in stores and just grabbing everybody's heart.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: So um, this could not have been a more timely launch as the weather's getting warmer.
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: They came out with the force addition to their Cologne Forte um collection.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: So there's already a yellow and a blue and a white bottle.
- 3:15SPEAKER_01: This is the green that rounds out the collection.
- 3:18SPEAKER_01: So they were really inspired by the green color in the rainbow, which is the middle of the rainbow prism.
- 3:25SPEAKER_01: And it's this balancing act between um the green earth and the blue water and reflecting light.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: And they captured that by adding these beautiful, you know, of course, aquatic notes, but also these very herbal, um herbaceous notes of verbena and fennel, and then green matcha tea.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: So it is on the more herbaceous and niche and unique side of what somebody would expect from a fresh fragrance.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: So it is very um distinctive and recognizable, which I think is often what people look for in a fragrance.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: It's it's signature scent worthy, and I think is going to get people a lot of compliments this summer.
- 4:07SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 4:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it sounds really cool with the matcha in there.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: That's really cool.
- 4:11SPEAKER_01: It is, it's really beautiful.
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: So I definitely recommend that if someone's looking for something, you know, there's not there's not much sweetness going on here.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: Um, it's really skewing more green as the bottle, you know, dictates.
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: So give that one a try.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: It's definitely a performer.
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: Um, so it's gonna last and it's gonna project.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: Um, and then there's another new one that I'm excited to talk about, which I always get nervous saying the names that are not in English, but I'll give it a try.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: Um, this is Sous Le Pont Mirabeau, uh, which uh essentially means under the bridge.
- 4:46SPEAKER_01: And this is a famous, uh, the name is based off of a famous French poem.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: And this particular bridge is one that um goes over the Seine River in Paris.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: So it's very iconic.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: Um, like most poetry, especially especially French poetry, it is a love poem, a bit of sadness, a bit of happiness, a bit of romance, all of all of the usual suspects.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: Um, and this fragrance from the House of a Tot Libre d'Orange is a very unique fragrance and falls more within the ozonic um aquatic profile.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: So naturally, it is talking about the river and the bridge.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: So you're gonna get that marine accord of the water.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: Um, but they've done it in a really unique way that welcomes in also some green elements of fig leaf.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: Um, and then there are these kind of fresher elements that combined with the marine notes almost gives it for me, like I get fresh laundry, you know, just showered, but on steroids.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: So um yeah, it's like a really, you know, what I love about everything I'm picked today is they're totally unisex.
- 5:57SPEAKER_01: They really have these like almost perfect balance of masculine and feminine notes.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: Um, so this one has some vanilla to round out maybe what would be harsh a masculine of the ozonic and C notes that you're gonna get as well.
- 6:10SPEAKER_02: Wow, that sounds lovely.
- 6:12SPEAKER_02: That sounds really nice.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: So the poem, so there's like there's like an original poem, and then if you go to the Tat Libre d'Orange website, um, uh Etienne Desoie, the founder of the perfume house, is if you've met him or you've watched his videos, he's a poet in and of himself.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: So he actually wrote another poem based off you know his interpretation of the the fragrance and all this.
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: So you can just read lots of poetry and get very inspired if you look, uh do a little digging on this fragrance.
- 6:41SPEAKER_02: I feel like that's also like so summary itself, you know what I mean?
- 6:45SPEAKER_02: Like just sitting down with a nice book of like poems.
- 6:47SPEAKER_02: You're right.
- 6:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it just goes with the theme.
- 6:50SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: I know, and I think like everyone has a little bit more time on their hands, a little bit in the summer.
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: We're all, you know, uh not in such a mad rush.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: So if somebody were to say, like, oh, you smell good, you have a real story that you can kind of unfold with them and you'll have like a talking point.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: It's like a party trick if you if you wear this fragrance.
- 7:07SPEAKER_02: Absolutely, no, absolutely.
- 7:08SPEAKER_02: And I think I also I wanted to ask you real quick because you had brought up the river theme, right?
- 7:13SPEAKER_02: It's like I feel like in the summer, I always get these um like this vibe of just, you know, you're thinking about the Mediterranean, you're thinking about a lot of places that have a lot of rivers, right?
- 7:23SPEAKER_02: Like a lot of water everywhere.
- 7:25SPEAKER_02: And so um, that's really interesting to see that, you know, so incorporated in a fragrance because I think that's I mean, we all have that imagery somehow stuck in our head, I feel like.
- 7:35SPEAKER_01: You're absolutely right.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: And the reason I picked the ones that I picked is because they all have that, you know, transcending freshness, aquatic, but they're not the expected.
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: All the fragrances that we're talking about today are definitely skewing niche and artisanal and unique, and they have like a wow factor or an unexpected factor that you wouldn't find in maybe a mainstream, just regular, you know, aquatic fragrance.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: So there's there's like a fun surprise to each of these.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: And then speaking of wanting to, you know, go to a European Riviera, I I will speak about um Elysium O Intense from Roger Parfum Next.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: So this one was highly anticipated, and um, it's it's based off of their current bestseller, which is Elysium Parfum Cologne.
- 8:24SPEAKER_01: So this is the blue bottle with a gold cap that you may recognize from the Roger Parfum house.
- 8:30SPEAKER_02: And you know, yeah, I saw that one.
- 8:32SPEAKER_02: Oh, you guys saw it on your feed first, too.
- 8:36SPEAKER_01: Like I remember seeing how beautiful it was.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:39SPEAKER_01: Gorgeous.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: I mean, anything Roger Parfum does is so opulent and beautiful and well detailed.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: And, you know, they've kind of heard the people, they want more things Elysium.
- 8:50SPEAKER_01: So he just has released Elysium O Intense.
- 8:54SPEAKER_01: And this is exciting.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: It's you know, some people might call it a flanker, whatever you want to call it, but this version comes in a matte blue bottle with a matte gunmetal silver cap.
- 9:06SPEAKER_01: So it's like an alter ego almost to the original, and it's just the packaging is to die for.
- 9:12SPEAKER_01: But uh aside from matte, you know, the new um concentration and and scent profile itself, this one is called O Intense for a reason.
- 9:21SPEAKER_01: It is definitely a more intense version of the previous.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: Um, and they took that opportunity to amp up the freshness.
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: That was actually the piece of the fragrance that they wanted to amplify.
- 9:32SPEAKER_01: So it is perfect for summer.
- 9:35SPEAKER_01: Um, and it's got all the things that you're looking for in terms of the citrus profiles.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: Um, but then it's it's rounded out with some actually white florals and things like juniper berry, all very heavy, fresh elements.
- 9:49SPEAKER_01: So this is gonna be this is something that I already know people are going crazy for.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: Um, and I think it's gonna be a big success this summer.
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: So that's one that I definitely recommend.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: I think it's an awesome Father's Day gift.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: If anybody's looking for that last minute, that would be a new, beautiful, fresh summer fragrance to gift.
- 10:08SPEAKER_02: That is actually, you just gave me the idea.
- 10:10SPEAKER_02: It might be cool to do that.
- 10:12SPEAKER_02: No, but you know, this actually brings up a really quick question I have for you because I know with a lot of like citrusy scents, like, you know, I've learned through the series, you know, talking to experts such as yourself, like you guys always mentioned how citrus is usually that, you know, those notes that evaporate the quickest, you know, in our fragrances.
- 10:29SPEAKER_02: And so um, since you mentioned that this is a more intense version, like do you think it's because of like the way it was formulated, or what do you think really like makes those scents last, you know, for us?
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: That's a great question.
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: So I can tell you, you know, if if somebody here is new to fragrance and they want to learn more about these kinds of things, the top notes of any fragrance, which is where citrus lives, do evaporate the quickest, like you said.
- 10:54SPEAKER_01: So it's really about what you build in the base of a perfume that will help those notes live longer and last on.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: So with this fragrance, there's a lot of base notes.
- 11:05SPEAKER_01: And there's musk and there's cedar wood and there's labdinum and there's leather.
- 11:11SPEAKER_01: He really went heavy on the base notes, and that's really going to project and push everything else out.
- 11:16SPEAKER_01: Um, so I always recommend to somebody new or old to wearing fragrance and wanting to learn more about their fragrances.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: I love apps and websites like fragrantica, I've said it before.
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: And now there's a new one called Sniff, which is an awesome app where it's kind of more like you can build out your own scent profile and be linked up to people who like similar things, but all along the way, they're offering a lot of education on the notes and how it wears and things like that.
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: So those are great sites to go check out more.
- 11:46SPEAKER_02: Oh wow, yeah.
- 11:47SPEAKER_02: I don't know if I've checked the new one out, the Sniff sniffing.
- 11:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, download the app.
- 11:51SPEAKER_01: It's an app created by um two really lovely people that have been in the industry actually for a long time.
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: One is Demi Rowling, who is a pretty well-known around the world um fragrance influencer.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: And she and her boyfriend, who is also grew up in the industry, have been working on this app for probably three years.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: And um it's really fun.
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: So I definitely recommend um downloading it and getting involved.
- 12:16SPEAKER_02: Oh, wow.
- 12:16SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 12:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm gonna look, I'm gonna check that out.
- 12:18SPEAKER_02: And I for everyone listening, I'll also link it in the concept art for the episode um when you guys see it for Fergus Fridays.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: Amazing.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: Um, so on that on that app, if you find me on the app, you will see actually that um you pick like there's all these different you build out a profile, but obviously the top question they ask is like, what is your signature scent?
- 12:39SPEAKER_01: And that segues into me telling you right now about Torino 22, which I have listed as my current signature scent.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: It's definitely my favorite right now.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: Um, one that I'm sure if you follow me on LinkedIn, you're sick of me talking about, but I'm gonna talk about it again here today.
- 12:55SPEAKER_01: Um, so Torino 22 from Zirjoff is a fragrance that was created in collaboration with the Nito ATP Finals.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: It's a tennis tournament that happens in Torino or Turin, Italy, whichever one you want to call it.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: Um, and they they're holding it there for five years.
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: And that happens to be the city where the brand Zurjoff is based out of.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: So, of course, Zirjoff in their true fashion became friends with and collaborated with the tournament and said we're gonna, you know, commemorate each of these tournaments each year with a fragrance.
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: So they've done it for the past two years, Torino 21, now Torino 22, and of course, Torino 23 is coming out very soon.
- 13:38SPEAKER_01: I just got to smell that one.
- 13:39SPEAKER_01: But today we're talking about Torino 22, which is definitely my favorite.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: Um, and I think it's a really nice alternative for what we've spoken about so far, because all of the other fragrances that we just spoke about definitely skew, leaning on the fresher side and more aquatic and more green.
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: Whereas Torino 22 is a little more grounding for me.
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: So it leans more into the herbal elements.
- 14:06SPEAKER_01: There's eucalyptus and notes like that, but then they balance it with things like saffron and amber and musk.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: So it's a bit more of a sensual, warm take on a fresh fragrance.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: Um, and I get a lot of compliments and um it it's just like it's unique and a bit intoxicating.
- 14:28SPEAKER_01: And more recently, I had never put this together in my head, but then somebody said it and now I can't unhear it.
- 14:35SPEAKER_01: That it it they said it reminded them of baccarat, which I said, okay, now that you say it, it makes sense because they both have a saffron and amber base.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: But for me, you know, I think it's different for each where I really get the eucalyptus and and herbal grounding notes in this fragrance.
- 14:51SPEAKER_01: So this is just something I definitely recommend getting your nose on.
- 14:56SPEAKER_02: Wow, that sounds really interesting.
- 14:57SPEAKER_02: The saffron, especially, because like you said, it's like I associate saffron with very like um exactly what you said, which is warmer, you know, just warmer, um, I guess overall fragrance, you know, colder weather, warmer fragrance.
- 15:10SPEAKER_02: Like I just that's interesting.
- 15:11SPEAKER_02: That's really interesting.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: I know it's a very interesting, like, you don't know, like when you smell it, you're like, is this a fresh fragrance?
- 15:17SPEAKER_01: Is it not fresh?
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: It's like it keeps you on your toes.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: It's got the clarity sage and the eucalyptus, but then it's got the saffron and the dry wood.
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: So I feel like you can almost like you can dress up an outfit or dress down an outfit.
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: This fragrance, I feel like I could pull off during the day being casual, but I could definitely pull it off at night being super formal.
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: So it's a versatile fragrance.
- 15:38SPEAKER_02: It sounds, yeah, it sounds really cool.
- 15:40SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 15:41SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna have to check that one out because I always like I feel like I always have the same scent in my collection, like literally, like every time I want a fresh scent, it always smells the same.
- 15:50SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna have to really check that one out.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: Exactly, exactly.
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: And to that point, that's why my final pick from this little lineup that you know I wanted to definitely tell you about Torino 22 and that warm option, but then I wanted to give you guys a gourmand option.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: So I'm excited to introduce to you guys Faces of Francis by Wilhelm Parfumery.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: It hasn't even launched um just yet in the USA.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: I think it's launching next week.
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: Um, it is available in Europe, but it's coming, it's coming to the States soon.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: Um, this is the latest release from Wilhelm Parfumery.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: So you guys may know their bottles by the iconic yellow label and the etched glass, you know, um unique bottles, really beautiful packaging.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: So it's that it's that canary yellow and the etched glass that is pretty iconic at this point.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: Um, and this particular fragrance is inspired by Francis Bacon, the artist.
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: And naturally he was known for um drawing these kind of like distorted faces.
- 16:50SPEAKER_01: So that was the concept of the name, which I think it's such a great name, and people are seeming to really love.
- 16:55SPEAKER_01: Um and then the fragrance is exciting.
- 16:58SPEAKER_01: I, you know, it's so funny because I know how long it takes for these fragrances to come out and how long I hear about them from the brands.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: And then when they launch, you would think like they're, you know, almost copying because recently it's been very trendy.
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: The pistachio note, everyone loves pistachio fragrances right now.
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: Yes, yep, yep.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: So, and here they are now releasing this is a pistachio fragrance again.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: Um, it's just a coincidence.
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: And what I love about this one is while it can be categorized as a gourmand, and while it does have pistachio, it is not, it is not sweet, it is not sticky, it is not heavy.
- 17:36SPEAKER_01: It's somehow this like weightless, um slightly, slightly sweet, really just well-balanced fragrance that is unique yet familiar.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: And it has um, again, there's a saffron element, which I think is very popular and and beloved right now.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: And then it introduces the pistachio, but then it has this base of amber green, a little bit of oud, and some veti bear.
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: So the veti bear, there's some juniper that's gonna lift it with the freshness.
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: Um, and then the saffron and pistachio.
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: We're gonna round it out with a little bit of sweetness, and then they have some aldehydes at the top, which is gonna keep it effervescent and suitable for summer.
- 18:19SPEAKER_01: So I think that this one is again like I think the name lends itself.
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: I always love gifting perfumes that have a fun name.
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: So Faces of Francis is fun, and I think it's a really just I don't think anyone wouldn't like this fragrance.
- 18:32SPEAKER_01: So I think it's very giftable um and a and a fun option if you want, you know, something a little sweet and yummy for summer.
- 18:40SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 18:40SPEAKER_02: No, that sounds amazing.
- 18:41SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh.
- 18:42SPEAKER_02: Like I love that because you know, I think that there's a lot of scents out there that are maybe like, I don't want to say outdated, but they're definitely very like, I guess, um just generic, you know, fresh scents that we're used to over time.
- 18:56SPEAKER_02: And I feel like these would be so cool to have in your collection.
- 19:00SPEAKER_02: And then you could even layer things, right?
- 19:02SPEAKER_02: So that'd be really cool.
- 19:03SPEAKER_01: Exactly, exactly.
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: So these are these are all, I think, really like a great way to kick start your summer fragrance wardrobe.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: A lot of these are new, so even they're not just new to you, they're gonna be new to everybody.
- 19:16SPEAKER_01: So I think, um, like I said, we're all gonna be socializing a bit more this summer.
- 19:21SPEAKER_01: We're gonna have more time on our hands.
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: So I think having a new fragrance to, you know, just remember this summer by is always a good idea.
- 19:28SPEAKER_02: I completely agree.
- 19:29SPEAKER_02: And, you know, just to round out the episode, Marissa, I want to ask you um a question because I know a lot of people go shopping on their own for fragrances and they're always looking for, you know, what notes to consider, right?
- 19:39SPEAKER_02: In terms of like what matches their personality.
- 19:42SPEAKER_02: And I think this probably also feeds into you mentioning like the app, you know, the new app, Sniff and whatnot.
- 19:47SPEAKER_02: But I want to get your input as well about, you know, what do you think are the most popular like notes that people should consider for summer scents, like uh from what you've noticed over the years?
- 19:59SPEAKER_01: Of course.
- 20:00SPEAKER_01: So I think things like grapefruit and bergamot and lemon and lime are going to be safe things that already tell you, okay, this is gonna be suitable for summer.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: So that at least tells you you're looking at the right, you know, fragrance.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: And then you just kind of want to look at everything else that's listed and make sure it falls in the direction that you want to go.
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: I think, you know, knowing what you don't like is almost more important than knowing what you do like when it comes to maybe buying something online.
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: So just maybe you know about yourself that you don't like white florals, then you just when you see that, you say, okay, moving on to the next one.
- 20:35SPEAKER_01: Um so I think looking for those citrus notes that I mentioned are important.
- 20:39SPEAKER_01: Um, but then also, of course, if you see a marine note, an aquatic note, those are also very safe for summer.
- 20:47SPEAKER_01: Um, and then lastly, I would say, you know, the the fresher of the green herbaceous notes, something like a juniper berry, excuse a bit green, or the black currant, those are kind of fruity, fresh notes that are also suitable for summer.
- 21:02SPEAKER_02: Love that.
- 21:03SPEAKER_02: I love that so much.
- 21:04SPEAKER_02: And that that helps a lot.
- 21:06SPEAKER_02: Thank you so much.
- 21:06SPEAKER_02: Um, because I think uh yeah, that like I said, you know, a lot of people kind of yOLO it.
