- 0:00Speaker 1: George Washington wasn't Mexican. It's one more thing. I'm strong
- 0:04Speaker 1: and getty, one more thing. So I have said, I've
- 0:11Speaker 1: threatened for many times, so it probably won't get around.
- 0:13Speaker 1: I'll get around to it about the same time I
- 0:15Speaker 1: use my elliptical machine. But I really want to dabble
- 0:19Speaker 1: in some of the AI stuff that all a lot
- 0:21Speaker 1: of you have been using for a long time, the
- 0:22Speaker 1: chat GPT and a sort of stuff. I've never done it,
- 0:24Speaker 1: and it's the future and I don't want to like
- 0:27Speaker 1: be left completely far behind on everything that everybody's doing.
- 0:30Speaker 1: And I just sounds really interesting to me. That's one
- 0:33Speaker 1: of the reasons I'm probably going to upgrade to the
- 0:35Speaker 1: iPhone sixteen when it comes out, is that it's going
- 0:37Speaker 1: to have chat GPT right on there, and I think
- 0:39Speaker 1: then I would actually use it. And Apple is also
- 0:42Speaker 1: unveiling their own version of AI. I think it's kind
- 0:45Speaker 1: of interesting that they have spent the gazillions of dollars
- 0:49Speaker 1: to try to compete in that arena and they're going
- 0:51Speaker 1: to release it at the same time that they allow
- 0:53Speaker 1: chat GPT to be on the phone. Kind of a
- 0:56Speaker 1: weird thing.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Like, Yeah, I needed to know the pix. It seems
- 1:01Speaker 2: odd and confusing.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know. I don't remember a time when
- 1:07Speaker 1: somebody introduces a competitor that way or but anyway, I
- 1:13Speaker 1: want to start looking into this sort of stuff. And
- 1:15Speaker 1: so the new iPhone comes out in a couple of
- 1:17Speaker 1: weeks and I'll probably get that and I'll let you
- 1:19Speaker 1: know how it goes. Google. You remember when Google released
- 1:23Speaker 1: their Gemini chatbot and it couldn't come up with white
- 1:27Speaker 1: people of any kind. It when asked to depict the
- 1:31Speaker 1: US Founding fathers and Catholic popes, for example, it either
- 1:35Speaker 1: depicted women or women of color or men of color,
- 1:38Speaker 1: but never any white males, even though all the popes
- 1:41Speaker 1: have been white males and the Founding Fathers were all
- 1:43Speaker 1: white males.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Likewise, German soldiers from World War Two, which was famously
- 1:49Speaker 2: not a very diverse bunch, right, It was kind of
- 1:52Speaker 2: the whole deal. And it's really quite something that Google spent.
- 1:59Speaker 2: I was this New York Times article would have the
- 2:01Speaker 2: amount of money they've spent so far, but.
- 2:03Speaker 1: It's a ton. I mean, they've gone in bigger than
- 2:06Speaker 1: anybody thinking. That kind of like the way Google is.
- 2:11Speaker 1: If you become the biggest and the best you can
- 2:13Speaker 1: print money for a very very long time. And if
- 2:15Speaker 1: they can become the Kleenex or Xerox, if you know
- 2:19Speaker 1: that reference of AI, that's where all the money is.
- 2:23Speaker 1: So they've invested a lot of money. And their first
- 2:25Speaker 1: shot at it was give me a picture of George
- 2:27Speaker 1: Washington and you have a brown lady. I mean, what
- 2:30Speaker 1: the hell? It's fairly basic.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Well, and it really betrays the impurity of the input,
- 2:39Speaker 2: if you will, how activist they are there, As The
- 2:42Speaker 2: New York Times says, besides, that was I'm sorry. That
- 2:45Speaker 2: was not a sin of omission. That was not a whoops,
- 2:49Speaker 2: we messed up that. We tried very very hard to
- 2:53Speaker 2: tip the scales and the whoops, we went too far?
- 2:56Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, I'll just read the headline from the New
- 2:58Speaker 1: York Times article. Google says it fixed its image generator
- 3:01Speaker 1: that failed to depict white people. The company will allow
- 3:04Speaker 1: users of its chatbot to create images of people with
- 3:06Speaker 1: artificial intelligence after disabling the feature six months ago. So
- 3:10Speaker 1: what they did, after spending unimaginable amounts of money, they
- 3:14Speaker 1: had to turn the thing off like the next day.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Ah do's shelve that for a little while that's really
- 3:21Speaker 1: quite extraordinary. And you'll remember Elon Musk, because we read this,
- 3:24Speaker 1: had said there, this is such a deep problem to
- 3:28Speaker 1: have spent all that money and you can't come up
- 3:31Speaker 1: with a white pope or a white founding fathers. A
- 3:34Speaker 1: sign of rots so deep you need to blow up
- 3:37Speaker 1: the entire team. That's what Elon Musk said. Who knows
- 3:40Speaker 1: something of what he's talking about with these things. That
- 3:43Speaker 1: was what I said, but he said it better. Weeks
- 3:45Speaker 1: after Gemini was launched, users notice it would not show
- 3:48Speaker 1: white individuals. Besides sparking controversy, the revelation eroded confidence in
- 3:54Speaker 1: Google's ability to manage artificial intelligence capabilities. I'd say it
- 3:59Speaker 1: might be one of the most expensive mistakes in all history.
- 4:02Speaker 1: At the end of the day, it really could be.
- 4:05Speaker 2: I already was contemptuous of Google corporate, and that just absolutely,
- 4:10Speaker 2: you know, energized my contempt.
- 4:13Speaker 1: But I know some people in the world of AI
- 4:15Speaker 1: and that Google had been sitting on the sideline while
- 4:21Speaker 1: Open AI, Chat, GPT, Microsoft a number of others had
- 4:26Speaker 1: come out and they had sat on the sideline with
- 4:28Speaker 1: the idea, we're going to get it right, and then
- 4:30Speaker 1: when we launched, we're going to land so hard and
- 4:32Speaker 1: so big. We're going to be the Google of search engines,
- 4:35Speaker 1: if you know what I mean. We're going to be
- 4:37Speaker 1: the We're going to be the thing. And that was
- 4:40Speaker 1: what happened day one.
- 4:42Speaker 3: Well, Joe, you brought us an article not too long
- 4:45Speaker 3: ago for one more another, one more thing we did
- 4:47Speaker 3: where it went through all the different categories of AI
- 4:49Speaker 3: and JEM and I was like rated last in all
- 4:51Speaker 3: of them, not just Image Generation.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Quite a few of them. Yeah.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Yeah. The fact that they spent more money waited on
- 4:58Speaker 1: the sidelines at the you know, you know, at the
- 5:01Speaker 1: deficit of letting other people get a head start on
- 5:03Speaker 1: them because we're gonna get it right, and then landed
- 5:06Speaker 1: with that is just stunning.
- 5:09Speaker 3: It brings me some weird joy it does.
- 5:12Speaker 2: I'm chuckling gleefully.
- 5:14Speaker 1: It's like, if you got a soft drink and the
- 5:16Speaker 1: cocin PEPSI are out there, we gotta get it out. No,
- 5:18Speaker 1: we're gonna wait, let people enjoy their coke and PEPSI,
- 5:21Speaker 1: wait till they wait until they enjoyed jack soda, and
- 5:24Speaker 1: then you final land Valt having spent nine trillion dollars
- 5:27Speaker 1: and somebody opens a bottle and there's a dead mouse
- 5:29Speaker 1: in there. Google bubbles, you're.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Gonna love this. Well if it was a robot, No,
- 5:35Speaker 2: we're gonna We're gonna hold back to Google robot until
- 5:38Speaker 2: it's good and ready. Finally we're ready, they unleash it.
- 5:40Speaker 2: It kills a bunch of school children before it bursts
- 5:43Speaker 2: into flames. It could not have been worse. Well.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Yeah, the company also stumbled, says The New York Times,
- 5:48Speaker 1: with the initial launch of its chatbot Bard, which got
- 5:52Speaker 1: all kinds of facts wrong in its first public outing.
- 5:55Speaker 1: I mean it's displayed to the media. It didn't work.
- 5:58Speaker 1: The Bard gap was an embarrassing moment just as the
- 6:00Speaker 1: AI boom was starting to take off. So Google's back
- 6:03Speaker 1: out today with their Gemini thing. So I'm sure tons
- 6:06Speaker 1: of people will be testing out, trying to make it
- 6:10Speaker 1: be racist and sexist. Some people would call that reverse racist,
- 6:15Speaker 1: reverse sexist, but that's dumb. But if it's not fixed,
- 6:21Speaker 1: we'll know by the end of the day because it's
- 6:23Speaker 1: out there now. That's one of the seriously, one of
- 6:26Speaker 1: the biggest mistake launches in history, and in terms of
- 6:31Speaker 1: money spent, it might be the biggest.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Well yeah, because and I think we may have discussed
- 6:37Speaker 2: this at the time when the previous go to marketing
- 6:42Speaker 2: day backle occurred New Coke. They wasted a hell of
- 6:46Speaker 2: a lot of time and money on that, but nobody thought,
- 6:49Speaker 2: you know, coke is evil in general.
- 6:52Speaker 1: I'm not gonna drink it, right, and diet coke. I
- 6:54Speaker 1: wouldn't throw that in your eyes.
- 6:56Speaker 2: No, they just went back to the old product, which
- 6:58Speaker 2: was the same product, and they liked it very much. Google,
- 7:01Speaker 2: their whole thing has been impugned.
- 7:04Speaker 1: They were exposed. That is stunning.
- 7:08Speaker 2: In fact, yeah, it's more like the mouse in Google Bubbles,
- 7:11Speaker 2: which I have charmingly named their new soft drink. It's
- 7:15Speaker 2: more like the mouse of your imagining than the new Coke.
- 7:19Speaker 2: It just shows that they have no standards, or at
- 7:21Speaker 2: least no standards I appreciate for quality.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Well, I'm like I said, I'm sure we will know
- 7:28Speaker 1: soon because there's gonna be a lot of people out
- 7:30Speaker 1: there testing it. Whether you're just a tech writer and
- 7:33Speaker 1: want to see how good it is, or if you're
- 7:34Speaker 1: a you hate Google like we do and you want
- 7:37Speaker 1: to out it as being still so woke. They can't
- 7:41Speaker 1: get the damn thing right.
- 7:44Speaker 2: I'm telling you We are in a cold war against woke,
- 7:48Speaker 2: and everybody needs to know it. The New York Everyone
- 7:51Speaker 2: knows it. Well, everyone needs to know it.
- 7:53Speaker 1: The New York Times ended today's article with the company
- 7:56Speaker 1: reminded users that even with improvements, it's technology would make errors.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Of course, not every image Gemini creates will be perfect,
- 8:03Speaker 1: Google says in their release, but we'll continue to listen
- 8:07Speaker 1: to feedback from early Access Gemini Advanced users as we
- 8:09Speaker 1: keep improving.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Again, it's not like it's a little too sweet for
- 8:15Speaker 1: me or a little fewer bubbles. No, there's a mouse
- 8:17Speaker 1: in the coke. It's not even close. And I mean
- 8:20Speaker 1: that's that's where you were. George Washington's a black woman. Okay,
- 8:23Speaker 1: you're not even close or heey.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Washingtonz the father, the padre of our country. Muh muh no,
- 8:32Speaker 2: not buying it, Google, Well, I guess that's it.
