- 2:42Speaker 4: Y'all heard them music so young? No's another Tuesday night.
- 2:47Speaker 4: How are you guys? Okay, okay? Down here in Chelseon
- 2:54Speaker 4: is hot? This monkey hot? Yo? Yes, it was one
- 3:01Speaker 4: twenty one. I heard today it went to one thirteen.
- 3:05Speaker 4: And that's to feel like temperature. You know. I'm hey,
- 3:08Speaker 4: I'm fluffy. This is this is yo. This is not cool.
- 3:12Speaker 4: But I do want to say this, thank you guys
- 3:16Speaker 4: forgiving me last week a little grace. I hope y'all
- 3:19Speaker 4: enjoyed the replay. It was the first day of school
- 3:23Speaker 4: and my baby girl is in sixth grade and she
- 3:27Speaker 4: is so loving her school. I've heard every day it's mom,
- 3:34Speaker 4: here's what happened today, And I'm like, soaking it all
- 3:37Speaker 4: in because I know it's gonna come a day where
- 3:40Speaker 4: she's not gonna really want to talk to me. But
- 3:44Speaker 4: I'm loving the fact that she is so comfortable that
- 3:47Speaker 4: she comes to tell me. Almost everybody in the school business.
- 3:50Speaker 4: So if your child go to school my daughter, who
- 3:53Speaker 4: know what's going on. But thank you guys for understanding
- 3:57Speaker 4: that parenting. It's one of the biggest things to me
- 4:00Speaker 4: for my son and my daughter. So again, thank you.
- 4:06Speaker 4: But that kind of goes great with what we're going
- 4:09Speaker 4: to be talking about tonight and the book that we're
- 4:11Speaker 4: going to be chatting about. In a way, it fits
- 4:15Speaker 4: perfectly because we start in this role as the giver,
- 4:24Speaker 4: and but then we end the role if we're blessed
- 4:30Speaker 4: as to give eat you know what I'm saying. So
- 4:34Speaker 4: tonight we're talking about caregiving one old one, Okay, but
- 4:40Speaker 4: the title of the book tonight is called Caregiving one
- 4:45Speaker 4: on one.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Huh.
- 4:48Speaker 4: Listen. A lot of us are thrust sometime into caregiving
- 4:54Speaker 4: and we wish we had books like this. And I
- 4:57Speaker 4: thank Miss Priscilla Baldwin for being with us tonight so
- 5:01Speaker 4: we could talk about this, you know, and why she
- 5:05Speaker 4: wrote this book for what many of us are going
- 5:07Speaker 4: to go through if we're thankful in this lifetime. So
- 5:10Speaker 4: we're bringing up off the Priscilla Baldwin, come on up,
- 5:14Speaker 4: Come on up, curly, Hey, how are you? Oh?
- 5:19Speaker 1: How are you?
- 5:21Speaker 4: I am hot? I'm not shotting y'all a good heat,
- 5:32Speaker 4: but how are you?
- 5:34Speaker 1: I am doing great? The heat is the same here
- 5:37Speaker 1: in Alabama. So the heat and dance was one twelve.
- 5:41Speaker 1: So we're burning up too.
- 5:43Speaker 4: Oh my god man. And we were talking about that
- 5:46Speaker 4: the day at work, and then we were talking about
- 5:48Speaker 4: el Minyo and how they're suspecting that we have a
- 5:53Speaker 4: cold winner. Well, can we get a little fresh start
- 5:56Speaker 4: on this winner? I mean, because this is crazy. Anyways,
- 6:02Speaker 4: welcoon to sc book Yallas and friends. I know a
- 6:08Speaker 4: little bit about you, but tell everyone a little bit,
- 6:12Speaker 4: a little bit about yourself.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Well, I am Priscilla Baldwin, and I am a healthcare practitioner.
- 6:19Speaker 1: I'm also a workshop host, dementia care specialist, cognitive behavioral
- 6:27Speaker 1: life coach as well. I worked in the mental health
- 6:32Speaker 1: field for over twenty six years, so there's a balance.
- 6:37Speaker 4: In what I do. Did you say twenty six years?
- 6:44Speaker 1: Twenty six years since told me that I work.
- 6:48Speaker 4: How did you do that? I'm struggling with this twenty one?
- 6:52Speaker 4: How did you do twenty six years in the health field?
- 6:56Speaker 4: And then what I don't want to say, but I'm
- 7:00Speaker 4: gonna say actively serious because they're moving, They're all over
- 7:08Speaker 4: the place. They're one minute here, next minute there. How
- 7:13Speaker 4: did you keep it cooling? Baby? Well?
- 7:17Speaker 1: I love what I did, and I worked with persons
- 7:22Speaker 1: living with disability. I worked with the elderly, I worked
- 7:24Speaker 1: with the MENTU patients. I worked with people that had
- 7:28Speaker 1: autism or down syndrome. So each person that you meet,
- 7:33Speaker 1: it's an individual basis, and what we did we worked
- 7:37Speaker 1: with the behavior plan for that individual. So we wanted
- 7:42Speaker 1: to teach socialization or whatever that behavior plan was for
- 7:46Speaker 1: that individual so that they could be included. You know,
- 7:50Speaker 1: it was inclusion for the community.
- 7:54Speaker 4: So I really enjoyed what I did. And you know
- 7:58Speaker 4: what I'm gonna tell you truth, I see the benefits
- 8:00Speaker 4: that another the one who works with the individual who
- 8:05Speaker 4: was like that, and out of all the people that
- 8:08Speaker 4: work in that building, they are one of the hardest
- 8:12Speaker 4: workers in one of the sweetest workers. You can ever know.
- 8:18Speaker 4: Your what I'm saying, what means you want to be
- 8:22Speaker 4: in that field.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Actually, when I first started out, I worked with the
- 8:31Speaker 1: youth that at risk youth and in the summertime when
- 8:35Speaker 1: school was out, we would have to go to different departments,
- 8:40Speaker 1: and I ended up not really wanting to work in
- 8:44Speaker 1: that field, but every summer I was put in that position.
- 8:48Speaker 1: So I think that it was divine interventions leading me
- 8:52Speaker 1: on the path that I was supposed to be on,
- 8:54Speaker 1: because you know, once you you buck against something, you're
- 9:00Speaker 1: made to go through that pathway. And so once I
- 9:04Speaker 1: got used to it and saw the vulnerable people and
- 9:09Speaker 1: how you know, microaggression and everything else with people not
- 9:15Speaker 1: being included in different community, things right, because we have
- 9:20Speaker 1: a tendency to see the diagnosis before we actually see
- 9:24Speaker 1: the individual. So when we're supposed to see the individual
- 9:29Speaker 1: and not the diagnosis.
- 9:33Speaker 4: That makes a lot of sense because we do see
- 9:37Speaker 4: the diagnosis for the individual. I have someone who works
- 9:44Speaker 4: with me that is like that, and I love him.
- 9:47Speaker 4: That's my boy. He comes out every day and he
- 9:51Speaker 4: says this thing, I have a rap song he created
- 9:54Speaker 4: for me. Oh really, he created a rap song.
- 9:59Speaker 1: I love him.
- 10:00Speaker 4: I love it so much. And every day when he leaves,
- 10:06Speaker 4: he said, partying is such sweet sorrow. Oh, I see
- 10:11Speaker 4: you tomorrow for trees. I'm like, all right, man, play it.
- 10:14Speaker 4: You did a great job today. I see it later
- 10:16Speaker 4: and he's so, oh my god, that's my boy. They
- 10:20Speaker 4: you mess with him, you gotta go through me. And
- 10:25Speaker 4: it was great working with him. And then it's great
- 10:27Speaker 4: working with him because at first, you know, even having
- 10:30Speaker 4: a sister that's handicapped, you do see the diagnosis before
- 10:35Speaker 4: you see the person. But when you get to know
- 10:37Speaker 4: the person, you forget about the diagnosis diagnosis right right.
- 10:44Speaker 1: So.
- 10:46Speaker 4: You took what you learned and you placed it in
- 10:51Speaker 4: the book. Well, people like me who were one who will,
- 10:57Speaker 4: like I tell people, if we are grateful life, who
- 11:00Speaker 4: will become a caregiver? Why did you feel that I
- 11:05Speaker 4: need to let these people know what's up in the
- 11:08Speaker 4: title caregiver one oh one hunh.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Well, basically with this book, it's a reflection of me
- 11:17Speaker 1: spending time and taking care of my dad, and also
- 11:20Speaker 1: at that time, I was balancing out a business that
- 11:26Speaker 1: I just started in two thousand and three. My dad
- 11:30Speaker 1: was ninety six years old at the time, and my
- 11:35Speaker 1: kids were in school, middle high schoolers, and it was
- 11:41Speaker 1: the book is really based on someone that's a novice
- 11:46Speaker 1: or a family member that doesn't have any idea of
- 11:50Speaker 1: the medical terms or how to navigate the healthcare system. Right,
- 11:56Speaker 1: So it's in plain English because this book is not
- 12:01Speaker 1: gonna go over your head at all. It's just basically
- 12:05Speaker 1: what it is, you know. And it was me learning
- 12:09Speaker 1: how to navigate what I needed to do for my
- 12:13Speaker 1: dad and still be available for my children and still
- 12:19Speaker 1: work on my full time job. That would be I
- 12:24Speaker 1: think they call it now the Sandwich generation, because you're
- 12:27Speaker 1: still working, you're still taking care of your kids. And
- 12:30Speaker 1: then I still had to see about my dad and
- 12:33Speaker 1: learn the ins and out of the healthcare system and
- 12:36Speaker 1: how to navigate and how to advocate for him, you know,
- 12:40Speaker 1: for the things that I didn't know, you know, because
- 12:43Speaker 1: in the healthcare field there are people that are gatekeepers
- 12:47Speaker 1: that won't tell you what you need to know and
- 12:50Speaker 1: you know how to navigate, you know the system, or
- 12:56Speaker 1: even try to help you, you know, So you're in
- 12:59Speaker 1: there learning their whole navigation system, a machine that you
- 13:06Speaker 1: don't even know what exists. And at the time my dad,
- 13:11Speaker 1: he had issues with his blood and we had never
- 13:14Speaker 1: heard of an oncologist. We didn't know what that was.
- 13:17Speaker 1: We didn't know how to navigate, you know, how to
- 13:20Speaker 1: set those appointments up. So it's it's a trial and
- 13:26Speaker 1: error as a as a caregiver.
- 13:29Speaker 4: When you are navigating, you're you're so right because once
- 13:35Speaker 4: you become that caregiver, you're really taking that role of
- 13:39Speaker 4: also the social worker. And like you said, this book
- 13:43Speaker 4: is you wrote this book to help you be there
- 13:47Speaker 4: for your father, for your kids, for your business, and
- 13:51Speaker 4: for yourself. So it was it's like a guideline to
- 13:55Speaker 4: to make sure that how they say, all the plates
- 13:58Speaker 4: are still spending, right, that's a caregiver. What did you
- 14:07Speaker 4: feel was the most important thing that you know that
- 14:12Speaker 4: needed to be in this book?
- 14:18Speaker 1: What needs to be in this book? There's one quote
- 14:23Speaker 1: that I put in there, and meet people where they are,
- 14:27Speaker 1: not where you expect them to be, right, Yeah, you
- 14:32Speaker 1: have to meet them where they are because a lot
- 14:34Speaker 1: of times when we put expectations on people, it's not
- 14:38Speaker 1: that they can't meet the expectations. You have to think
- 14:43Speaker 1: do they have the capacity to do what you're asking
- 14:46Speaker 1: them to do? You know, that's one question that you
- 14:50Speaker 1: have to ask and a lot of times people are
- 14:53Speaker 1: put in positions that they not necessarily are equipped to handle,
- 14:58Speaker 1: and they're in position that they reacts to be in.
- 15:03Speaker 1: So we have to think about that as well.
- 15:06Speaker 4: So what do you say to someone that has read
- 15:09Speaker 4: your book and they're like, you know what, I really.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Can't do this.
- 15:15Speaker 4: How do you tell them, you know what, it's okay.
- 15:22Speaker 4: How do you how do you relate to that person
- 15:25Speaker 4: and say, you know, I've read your book, I don't
- 15:28Speaker 4: think I'm capable of becoming a caregiver. What do you
- 15:34Speaker 4: say to that individual like you.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Said, it's okay. Everybody's not cut out to be a caregiver.
- 15:42Speaker 1: And my humble opinion, I think that caregivers are created.
- 15:46Speaker 1: It's in their DNA, you know. So everybody's not going
- 15:50Speaker 1: to be a lawyer. Everybody's not going to be a judge.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Everybody has their own path that they're destined for, and
- 15:57Speaker 1: caregiver may not be your path. And that's fint. What
- 16:01Speaker 1: I say to you is then find out other resources
- 16:05Speaker 1: that are available to you. Speak to your family members.
- 16:11Speaker 1: If you have siblings, you can sit down and you
- 16:13Speaker 1: can talk and y'all can come to the conclusion of
- 16:17Speaker 1: if you are going to hire an agency or if
- 16:20Speaker 1: you're going to hire a private caregiver, whatever that looks
- 16:25Speaker 1: like for your family. Because it's caregiving is not for
- 16:30Speaker 1: the weak, I can tell you that it's not. It's
- 16:33Speaker 1: a journey. And in the journey, it's a process, right,
- 16:37Speaker 1: It's a process of you learning the ins and out
- 16:42Speaker 1: of caregiving. But it's also helping you to find out
- 16:46Speaker 1: what your strengths and what your weaknesses are, and your
- 16:49Speaker 1: capacity to stretch and to be in the person that
- 16:53Speaker 1: you need to be to fulfill what needs to be
- 16:57Speaker 1: done for this individual for the purpose of taking care
- 17:01Speaker 1: of someone, you know, showing empathy and compassion and the
- 17:07Speaker 1: things that will provide a safe environment for your individual.
- 17:12Speaker 1: So if you're not able to do it, there are
- 17:15Speaker 1: other resources out there to assist you on your journey
- 17:20Speaker 1: with caregiving.
- 17:23Speaker 4: Now that is so on point, because I remember at
- 17:29Speaker 4: one point in time, right before my sister passed in
- 17:32Speaker 4: the hospital, my mom was in one hospital, my sister
- 17:36Speaker 4: was in another hospital. There were three other sisters, well,
- 17:42Speaker 4: including me, there were three of us, and I remember
- 17:48Speaker 4: us actually coming up with a game plan. Okay, listen,
- 17:50Speaker 4: when I get off of work, you come home, I'll
- 17:55Speaker 4: go to the hospital. I'll spend a night to the hospital,
- 17:58Speaker 4: I'll leave the hospital for the work and then when
- 18:00Speaker 4: I get off of word jugn we like had it
- 18:03Speaker 4: like a machine. But then we remember when my mother
- 18:08Speaker 4: got sick, we actually had to sit down and have
- 18:11Speaker 4: a conversation with others in the family like hey, can
- 18:14Speaker 4: you come down here and sitt this stick? Can you
- 18:17Speaker 4: come down here? And said that day, Okay, I've done
- 18:20Speaker 4: everything I need to do with her. I'm gonna go home.
- 18:23Speaker 4: So I remember having to have those hard conversations. Yeah,
- 18:30Speaker 4: but then when the caregiving is over, what do you
- 18:38Speaker 4: say to that person that was the caregiver and now
- 18:44Speaker 4: that part of life is over, what do you say
- 18:48Speaker 4: to them? How do you say? Because I remember once
- 18:55Speaker 4: my mom passed, it was like this this point of time,
- 19:01Speaker 4: we were like, okay, so what do we do now?
- 19:04Speaker 4: You know, like you still had that caregiver running through us,
- 19:08Speaker 4: So like, how do we say? How do you tell them? Hey, okay,
- 19:14Speaker 4: you know, how do you tell them it's time for
- 19:16Speaker 4: them to take care of their stuff? In so many words, well.
- 19:21Speaker 1: The time to take care of yourself is at the
- 19:23Speaker 1: beginning of your journey and it's self care, right, So
- 19:27Speaker 1: you have to think of yourself first, because you can't
- 19:32Speaker 1: pour from an empty cup every morning. This is my
- 19:36Speaker 1: recommendation every morning that you get up, get up earlier
- 19:40Speaker 1: than your loved one or your client, and that gives
- 19:44Speaker 1: you time to do your meditation, your prayer, whatever that
- 19:48Speaker 1: looks like for you, a couple of coffee, sitting in silence.
- 19:52Speaker 1: For me, sitting in silence helps my mind not to race.
- 19:57Speaker 1: It helps me to regulate my nervous system because that's
- 20:00Speaker 1: a part of it as well. So when you take
- 20:04Speaker 1: that time to fill your cup with just silence, with music,
- 20:10Speaker 1: with like I said, meditation, with your prayers, even learning
- 20:17Speaker 1: how to do four square breathing, it helps you a
- 20:21Speaker 1: lot because we so often want to check off all
- 20:25Speaker 1: the boxes right, especially if you're a task oriented individual.
- 20:30Speaker 1: You want to make sure that this is done, this
- 20:32Speaker 1: is done, and this is done. And in the middle
- 20:34Speaker 1: of all of that, you're not breathing. You're not allowing
- 20:38Speaker 1: your lungs to fill up and that brain fog to
- 20:43Speaker 1: dissipate because you're not breathing. You're forgetting to breathe because
- 20:46Speaker 1: you're doing ABCD and in the middle of that, you're
- 20:51Speaker 1: not taking time to breathe. So when you do self
- 20:54Speaker 1: care for yourself, you are regulating your nervous system, You
- 20:59Speaker 1: are prepared your mind for the day that it's coming,
- 21:04Speaker 1: and your cup is filled. So as your day progresses
- 21:08Speaker 1: and you have to give someone some empathy, or somebody
- 21:12Speaker 1: else needs your compassion, or somebody else needs something else. Right,
- 21:16Speaker 1: So if you don't have anybody that's that's in place
- 21:23Speaker 1: to reset you, to help you to fill your cup,
- 21:29Speaker 1: even if that's saying, hey, you know what I owe
- 21:32Speaker 1: the groceries and all you got to do is stop
- 21:34Speaker 1: buy and pick it up to take some of the
- 21:36Speaker 1: weight that you carry. Because we carry weight for the
- 21:39Speaker 1: people that we're taking care of, right, we carry that
- 21:42Speaker 1: weight along with the weight that we have for ourselves
- 21:44Speaker 1: or our families. It's additional weight. So someone can come
- 21:50Speaker 1: in and replenish you, reset you, reposition you. That helps
- 21:55Speaker 1: with the recovery so when you step away that you
- 21:59Speaker 1: actually can breathe right, and self care starts in beginning.
- 22:05Speaker 1: And I'm going to come back to your question when
- 22:08Speaker 1: you said we've got caregiving in us, how do we
- 22:12Speaker 1: stop it? When that journey is over for you, that
- 22:19Speaker 1: means that you need to take the time so that
- 22:22Speaker 1: you can grieve that part of your life because you've
- 22:27Speaker 1: been in caregiving for years, however long that you've been
- 22:32Speaker 1: with your family member or even with the client, you've
- 22:36Speaker 1: been with them for a long period of time, and
- 22:38Speaker 1: when that journey is over for caregiving for that individual,
- 22:45Speaker 1: time needs to be set aside to grieve. You're grieving
- 22:49Speaker 1: for the individual, but you're also grieving the caregiving part
- 22:54Speaker 1: of what you've put out. The energy you put out,
- 22:57Speaker 1: the love that you put out, the compassion that you
- 22:59Speaker 1: put out. Right you advocating for another individual. That's a
- 23:06Speaker 1: lot that you're putting out. So time has to be
- 23:09Speaker 1: set aside so that you can grieve that. And it's
- 23:14Speaker 1: okay to do that. There's no time living on grief.
- 23:19Speaker 1: There's no time living in stepping into another caregiving position.
- 23:27Speaker 1: You have to take time to grieve that individual as
- 23:32Speaker 1: well as the caregiving part of the life that you
- 23:36Speaker 1: were a part of. Does that make sense to you?
- 23:40Speaker 4: That makes so much sense, It truly does. What you're
- 23:46Speaker 4: telling us is that you have to take that time.
- 23:51Speaker 4: And I think that's what a lot of caregivers doing.
- 23:54Speaker 4: They don't take that time. That makes so much sense.
- 24:00Speaker 4: Mm hmm, so much sense. So now you know, I
- 24:04Speaker 4: got to ask about this title care Giving one on
- 24:09Speaker 4: one humph, why the word hunh because I thought when
- 24:14Speaker 4: you sent it to me, I was like, this book
- 24:16Speaker 4: is not called care Given one on one? Hum, And
- 24:19Speaker 4: I went on Amazon, I said, it really is that?
- 24:25Speaker 4: Why the hump? I understand Caregiving one on one, understand it,
- 24:30Speaker 4: but the hump?
- 24:31Speaker 1: What's that? Yes, you are the first person that's actually
- 24:36Speaker 1: asked me that and all the podcasts that I've done.
- 24:40Speaker 1: The hunt is because you are novelist and some of
- 24:44Speaker 1: the terminology you know, how you hear something you're not
- 24:48Speaker 1: really clear of the of what you're hearing or understanding
- 24:55Speaker 1: what you heard. You know so and you know that
- 25:00Speaker 1: that clise say that if you can harm, you can hear.
- 25:03Speaker 1: So it's like, okay, huh okay. When we do that,
- 25:10Speaker 1: it's like everything within us is perking up. You know,
- 25:13Speaker 1: we're leaning forward to understand exactly what you said. I
- 25:18Speaker 1: don't want to miss the information that you gave me.
- 25:21Speaker 1: So when I say, hah, I lean forward, you have
- 25:25Speaker 1: my attention. I'm trying to understand what you said. I'm
- 25:29Speaker 1: trying to learn the verbiage of what you said. I'm
- 25:33Speaker 1: trying to understand the content of how you put it.
- 25:38Speaker 1: So when I go ham and I lean in, You've
- 25:41Speaker 1: got my attention. You know, I may not know the
- 25:45Speaker 1: rest of it, but I am showing that I'm here,
- 25:50Speaker 1: I'm listening. I want to understand what you're talking about.
- 25:55Speaker 4: Now I get it, okay, Like you really had be
- 26:00Speaker 4: on Amazon and I looked, I didn't see anything. I
- 26:06Speaker 4: saw all the other caregiving this hmm, that's weird for
- 26:10Speaker 4: sa bone care given one on one, and then I
- 26:15Speaker 4: look at it take Caregiving one on one. Huh. This yo,
- 26:19Speaker 4: that really is the title of the book. But it's
- 26:23Speaker 4: that shock factor for me as a title because that's like, man,
- 26:27Speaker 4: let me see what they're talking about. So I love
- 26:29Speaker 4: the title. If you can give a client because we
- 26:38Speaker 4: always talk about the client a lot, but sometimes you
- 26:42Speaker 4: get those and I know those people who work for
- 26:46Speaker 4: we call them caregift centers down here. If you if
- 26:49Speaker 4: the client is listening to this and you can tell
- 26:52Speaker 4: them one thing for their caregiver, what would you say
- 26:56Speaker 4: to the client for the client that again for the client,
- 27:02Speaker 4: for the client to say to their caregiver, what would
- 27:08Speaker 4: you say to them? Because your book talks about the caregiver.
- 27:11Speaker 4: But let's reverse it and let's see what would you
- 27:14Speaker 4: tell the client to say that they're caregiver.
- 27:19Speaker 1: A lot of times caregivers don't feel appreciated, you know.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Sometimes we get really great clients and sometimes we get
- 27:30Speaker 1: not so great clients. But we have to work through
- 27:33Speaker 1: that and still show up for that. Right, So the
- 27:37Speaker 1: client needs to understand, if they have the capacity to
- 27:41Speaker 1: do so, that the reason why your caregiver is there
- 27:45Speaker 1: because your caregiver being you valuable, they see you in
- 27:53Speaker 1: an everyday situation. Right, So that's an extension of how
- 27:59Speaker 1: they care for you, that they are showing you that
- 28:02Speaker 1: they see you, you know, and if they could tell
- 28:06Speaker 1: their caregivers, I appreciate that you see me. I appreciate
- 28:13Speaker 1: that you value me. I appreciate that you go out
- 28:16Speaker 1: be a way sometimes to accommodate me, even in the
- 28:21Speaker 1: mess that they could be messy situations, but you still
- 28:26Speaker 1: show up for me. And I appreciate that, you know,
- 28:29Speaker 1: because that caregiver shows up regardless whatever the situation is,
- 28:35Speaker 1: because of the calling that's on their life and them
- 28:39Speaker 1: being a caregiver.
- 28:41Speaker 4: Right.
- 28:42Speaker 1: I just truly believe that caregivers can walk into a
- 28:45Speaker 1: room and change the atmosphere if they know who they
- 28:48Speaker 1: are and walk in the authority in which they have
- 28:52Speaker 1: because they deal with the client, they deal with family dynamics,
- 28:57Speaker 1: they deal with the atmosphere or the home, the culture
- 29:00Speaker 1: of the home, and it has nothing to do with race.
- 29:03Speaker 1: It's the culture of an individual's home and the rules
- 29:07Speaker 1: and regulation that's in that house. Right. So that's a
- 29:14Speaker 1: lot for one individual to come in. So when people
- 29:17Speaker 1: say you're just a caregiver, no, drop the jest and
- 29:23Speaker 1: realize that person has the ability to come in and
- 29:26Speaker 1: do things that you're not able to do with that
- 29:30Speaker 1: that your loved one, yes, no, or that client. So
- 29:35Speaker 1: when that person walks into the room, they have the
- 29:38Speaker 1: ability to change the atmosphere, whether you acknowledge it or not.
- 29:46Speaker 4: So true, so true, Like they say that two little
- 29:50Speaker 4: words thank you, right, or that statement I appreciate your
- 29:56Speaker 4: long right.
- 29:59Speaker 1: Something.
- 30:00Speaker 4: I don't know if you've ever seen my show before,
- 30:03Speaker 4: But when we get to the end, we have these
- 30:06Speaker 4: fun questions, and you know what, I think you are
- 30:09Speaker 4: the first author that I had a hard time trying
- 30:13Speaker 4: to find out some fun questions. Okay, come up with
- 30:17Speaker 4: some okay, So the fun questions are normally in adjacent
- 30:25Speaker 4: with movies and music, because those are two things I like,
- 30:29Speaker 4: and when people come to my library, those are the
- 30:31Speaker 4: most relatable things when I tried to get them books.
- 30:35Speaker 4: So here is the first one question for you. Okay, okay.
- 30:42Speaker 4: If you could choose any any mail to be your doctor,
- 30:50Speaker 4: any mail, who would the doctor be? And why did
- 30:55Speaker 4: you choose the.
- 30:58Speaker 1: Oh god, any male? Samuel L. Jackson?
- 31:03Speaker 4: Oh well, hold up, now, I would be scared to
- 31:06Speaker 4: be his would be.
- 31:10Speaker 1: Right forward. Tell you what it is, whether you like
- 31:15Speaker 1: it or not.
- 31:17Speaker 4: All I could do is see him and sneaks in
- 31:19Speaker 4: the plane and how he was just talking to people
- 31:22Speaker 4: all kind of Okay, okay, Samuel Jackson, that's your doctor.
- 31:28Speaker 4: That's a hard doctor. That's oh I like it. So
- 31:32Speaker 4: now you gotta have a nurse. But the nurse is
- 31:38Speaker 4: a female music artist. Who would it be? And why.
- 31:46Speaker 1: Erica by dud.
- 31:49Speaker 4: Okay, okay, okay, So now you gotta tell me why
- 31:54Speaker 4: you chose Erica bad because I.
- 31:57Speaker 1: Love her music and the things, for her being a herbalist,
- 32:04Speaker 1: for her being as grounded as she is with her energy.
- 32:09Speaker 4: I love that, and that is what you really what
- 32:13Speaker 4: you need I can see her loving somebody to help.
- 32:17Speaker 4: I can literally see that. Okay, So we got some
- 32:22Speaker 4: of the old Jackson as your doctor. We got ericababdu
- 32:28Speaker 4: is your nurse. Oh Lord Jesus. Okay, we need a
- 32:34Speaker 4: CNE because Erica she had to go help with somebody else.
- 32:38Speaker 4: So we need a CNA and we would like uh
- 32:44Speaker 4: so we have the music. Okay, let's say a male
- 32:50Speaker 4: musical artist. It's for your cn it.
- 32:57Speaker 1: Oh male, mm hmm mm hmmm.
- 33:05Speaker 4: Mm hmmm. See you said erkop, I'll do for your female.
- 33:09Speaker 4: So I'm thinking that you might want to stay on
- 33:13Speaker 4: the line of the soul. So I was thinking, oh
- 33:21Speaker 4: maybe mm hmm music soul child or Bob Molly. Oh
- 33:30Speaker 4: I would love Bob Molly to be.
- 33:32Speaker 1: Nicey in me.
- 33:34Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that would be yes, Okay, okay, so
- 33:46Speaker 4: who did you choose? I got Bob Molly, Bob taking
- 33:49Speaker 4: care of you were giving me. Bob Bob is mine
- 33:54Speaker 4: all mine, my mind? Who do YouTube?
- 34:00Speaker 1: That's a hard one.
- 34:02Speaker 4: That is a hard one.
- 34:04Speaker 1: Hmmm mmmmmmm. Let me see.
- 34:11Speaker 4: Okay, So I'll give you Bomb Bondie Molly, and I'll
- 34:14Speaker 4: take I'll take Lenny Travis. He is cute. I can
- 34:18Speaker 4: set up being looking at him all bigha. I can
- 34:26Speaker 4: take tupac oh, dmn oh, I will take d m
- 34:29Speaker 4: nex d MX will be my physical trainer because you
- 34:33Speaker 4: imagine yelling at you. You know, I say one. You
- 34:35Speaker 4: know I can do that. Okay, I see that. I
- 34:41Speaker 4: see that.
- 34:42Speaker 1: Okay.
- 34:43Speaker 4: So now we have all these people. But you need
- 34:46Speaker 4: your song. Okay, you need that song that gets you going.
- 34:51Speaker 4: That each wanted somebody said Keith Sweat. Oh wow, I
- 34:58Speaker 4: gotta I gotta remember family show, keep spread, look here,
- 35:04Speaker 4: look here. But now you have a song. You need
- 35:09Speaker 4: that song to keep you going. As the client, what
- 35:14Speaker 4: would your song be?
- 35:21Speaker 1: What comes to mind is this is Me. It was
- 35:27Speaker 1: a musical. It's yeah, it just talks about the different
- 35:37Speaker 1: I guess you would have to go on YouTube two
- 35:41Speaker 1: to to hear it. And it's this is me and
- 35:46Speaker 1: all my flaws and everything. You know, life is not
- 35:50Speaker 1: glamorous a lot of times, but this is me, you know,
- 35:54Speaker 1: flaws and all. It's a really great music song.
- 35:59Speaker 4: Okay, you know who the artist is because I'm gonna
- 36:01Speaker 4: go look it up now, I can look it up.
- 36:04Speaker 1: I don't know, I just know I love to hear it.
- 36:08Speaker 4: Okay, okay, this is me. You want to listen to
- 36:13Speaker 4: it and then.
- 36:15Speaker 1: Email me back and what you think.
- 36:18Speaker 4: Yeah, it's on YouTube and it's a you said it's
- 36:21Speaker 4: a play. I'm about to find out it's right here.
- 36:26Speaker 1: It was after but it's yeah, it's this is me.
- 36:31Speaker 1: The guy name is Jack.
- 36:32Speaker 4: Something Jack alrighty, i'n't got it.
- 36:38Speaker 1: Alrighty, it's me. It's cheap.
- 36:43Speaker 4: Oh all right, and I'm gonna look it up. You're
- 36:48Speaker 4: gonna look at it. Put you back. So before we
- 36:51Speaker 4: closed out, tell us how we could follow you on
- 36:55Speaker 4: social media and the events that you have coming up,
- 36:59Speaker 4: or even where to grab your book.
- 37:02Speaker 1: You can grab my book on Amazon. You can follow
- 37:07Speaker 1: me on Facebook as Priscilla Baldwin. You can follow me
- 37:11Speaker 1: on YouTube. It's coached Priscilla b and TikTok is Priscilla Baldwin,
- 37:17Speaker 1: sixty three. Ig is Priscilla Baldwin thirteen forty.
- 37:25Speaker 4: And I understand that you have an event that's coming
- 37:28Speaker 4: up pretty soon in September.
- 37:30Speaker 1: I do September eleventh, which is my dad's birthday. There
- 37:35Speaker 1: is a book signing for Caregiving one oh two Hands
- 37:39Speaker 1: and Feet, and it's at twenty four or forty eight
- 37:42Speaker 1: Main Street, Millbrook, Alabama at Jaguar Spot from two to five.
- 37:50Speaker 4: So you guys, if you've been following and you've been
- 37:52Speaker 4: with us all night, you've seen her information at the
- 37:54Speaker 4: bottom screen. Right now, at the bottom screen, there's information
- 37:58Speaker 4: on the upcoming book signing about caregiving one oh two
- 38:03Speaker 4: and it's about feet.
- 38:05Speaker 1: And hand, hands and feet. This is the title. Is
- 38:12Speaker 1: that because I had a client that I was working
- 38:14Speaker 1: with her and her husband, and there were elderly people
- 38:19Speaker 1: and they were very active in their church, very active
- 38:22Speaker 1: in the community. When her when her husband got diagnosed
- 38:25Speaker 1: with Parkinson's, friends and family, everybody stopped coming. You know
- 38:33Speaker 1: how the proverbial excuse is, I don't want to see
- 38:38Speaker 1: them like that. You know, that's a proverbal excuse, you know,
- 38:43Speaker 1: So that way they don't have to come. So what
- 38:45Speaker 1: she said was people needed to understand that they were
- 38:49Speaker 1: still there, you know, and that even if you picked
- 38:54Speaker 1: up the phone to call her, you used your hands,
- 38:58Speaker 1: Even if you took out the train, you used your feet.
- 39:02Speaker 1: You showed up. So it's conversations like that in that
- 39:07Speaker 1: book and with more different topics as well. But that's
- 39:11Speaker 1: the that's the reason for the title of the book.
- 39:15Speaker 1: It's a lot of times when you're not as active
- 39:18Speaker 1: as you used to be, or you're not doing for
- 39:23Speaker 1: people as much as you want to, people have a
- 39:27Speaker 1: tendency to forget about you when you're going through, you know,
- 39:33Speaker 1: your season of caregiving. Right, So, nobody calling, nobody's calling
- 39:40Speaker 1: as much, nobody's showing up as much, you know, So
- 39:44Speaker 1: that hurts, And that was very hurtful for her to
- 39:48Speaker 1: realize that she's been in the community over fifty some
- 39:50Speaker 1: years or more, and nobody thinks about calling, nobody thinks
- 39:54Speaker 1: about showing up, nobody thinks about visiting, you know. So
- 39:59Speaker 1: we have to be mindful of that caregiving and having
- 40:03Speaker 1: someone that is with to mentor or disable or whatever.
- 40:07Speaker 1: It's not a death sentence. It shows us who actually
- 40:12Speaker 1: shows up for us, and who deemed us worthy to
- 40:15Speaker 1: spend time with us, Who deems us worthy to pick
- 40:18Speaker 1: up the phone, who deems us worthy to come and
- 40:22Speaker 1: take my trash to the to the to the curve
- 40:25Speaker 1: for me? You know. So, you have to evaluate your
- 40:29Speaker 1: relationships and I think that if in Journey helps you
- 40:34Speaker 1: to evaluate what your worth is within your own community,
- 40:39Speaker 1: within your own family.
- 40:42Speaker 4: So you are you guys in Alabama. That statement right
- 40:46Speaker 4: there was enough to beat you guys. Go out then
- 40:48Speaker 4: support her book. Okay, y'all go get your book signed.
- 40:53Speaker 4: Make sure y'all tell I said hi, because I'm on
- 40:55Speaker 4: the other side of the heap with her. But to
- 40:58Speaker 4: make sure you guys go out there and support and
- 41:02Speaker 4: miss Priscilla. I think he could be with me tonight.
- 41:05Speaker 1: Thank you. It was truly a blessing to be here.
- 41:09Speaker 4: But I'm taking Bob Molly with me now because she
- 41:12Speaker 4: can't take care of you tonight. You mean him gotta
- 41:14Speaker 4: look at one love tonight.
- 41:21Speaker 1: And she got.
- 41:22Speaker 4: I just can't get off the same with El Jackson
- 41:25Speaker 4: playing a doctor. I would pay money to see him
- 41:29Speaker 4: play a.
- 41:30Speaker 1: Doctor right struck to the point.
- 41:35Speaker 4: And I say push. I can just see. I can
- 41:40Speaker 4: literally see him yelling at somebody. Oh my god. You know,
- 41:46Speaker 4: I'm sorry, Samuel L. Jackson, but I just can't. That's
- 41:51Speaker 4: like when I heard DMX saying the prayer, even though
- 41:54Speaker 4: I know he was so success right the first time
- 41:57Speaker 4: I heard, I was like, Yo, that's against briandent like,
- 42:03Speaker 4: and then I listened it again, I was like, oh,
- 42:05Speaker 4: he's so sincen. I gotta get past, like you said,
- 42:09Speaker 4: get past. You gotta get past what you see and
- 42:14Speaker 4: get them to know the person.
- 42:15Speaker 1: Right.
- 42:17Speaker 4: I'm sorry, Samuel Old Jackson. I'll get past, but I can't.
- 42:21Speaker 4: I'm trying. I'm so trying. But I thank you for
- 42:27Speaker 4: being with me tonight, and I wish you the best.
- 42:31Speaker 4: And you guys, listen if you need help back someone
- 42:39Speaker 4: Rath looks like this because she says she's not gatekeeper,
- 42:42Speaker 4: and I know a lot of people that cake. I
- 42:45Speaker 4: don't understand why, because there's enough for everybody. Okay. Water
- 42:51Speaker 4: has not run out yet, food has not run out yet.
- 42:55Speaker 4: You might not have to be of getting it, but
- 42:57Speaker 4: it's still there. So let's somebody help you get it. Okay,
- 43:01Speaker 4: you guys, thank you, mister Friscilla, who'll be with me tonight,
- 43:06Speaker 4: thank you, Thank you you guys. It's another another author,
- 43:13Speaker 4: another day in the book. Make sure you join me

- 43:19Speaker 4: people in your life and we'll be talking to author
- 43:23Speaker 4: Michelle Dartist. She's physician, y'all. I'll be ready for this one. Okay.
- 43:29Speaker 4: Remember there's no such thing as an old book, because
- 43:32Speaker 4: not everybody has read every book. You guys, have a
- 43:35Speaker 4: great night and stay cool. Bye. Come through.
