- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Healing with Purpose Podcast, a place where we discuss how healing ourselves helps us find our purpose.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Kenya Marie.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: Let's get into it.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the first episode of Healing with Purpose Podcast.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Kenya Marie, and thank you so much for being here.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: I am really excited to be in this space with you all.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: There really is nothing else like podcasting.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: It's a space where we are able to speak our mind and give our truths and hopefully heal the world.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: So thank you so much for taking some time out of your day to be here.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: What this podcast is all about, as you can tell from the title, I'm sure, is healing, healing our body, healing our mind, healing our soul.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: Because I have found that in order to live your purpose, in order to find your purpose, oftentimes it requires a whole lot of healing.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: And that's okay.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: That's what we are here for.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: That is the human experience.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: And so I'm excited to be here with you today.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: Now, if you are a psychology nut, if you are a spirituality nut, then this is definitely going to be the place for you.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: We're going to be talking about healing.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: We're going to be talking about trauma.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: We're going to be talking about purpose.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: So I'm really, really excited to be here with you.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: Now, a little bit of background.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: I've been passionate about understanding how humans operate since I was a little kid.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: I mean, probably close to five years old.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: I was that quiet observer when I was a kid and constantly assessing people's behaviors.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: As I got older, that passion for understanding other people and why they reacted the way they did, why they acted the way they did turned into a little bit of an obsession, I'd say, in my teenage and college years.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: I since then have dedicated the last 10 years of my life to learning about the psychology of the mind, specifically when it comes to healing, and definitely when it comes to our four bodies, which we'll talk about our four bodies a little bit later.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: But throughout the last few years, or several years rather, um, I've worked as a senior social worker.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: My role at the government was to investigate child abuse cases and child neglect cases.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: I then turned into a fitness coach, entrepreneur, and I currently am a life transformation coach.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: And I learned through all of those experiences that the true way to making lasting change in your body, in your mind, in your emotions, in your family is really from working from the inside out.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: So that's exactly what we will be working on here.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: And I can't be more excited.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: I fell in love with understanding psychology when I was about 17 years old.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: I took an AP psychology class, and although I ended up with a C, uh the information I learned truly changed the trajectory of my life.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: I ended up studying psychology in college, specializing in early childhood development, then went on to get my master's in social work.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: Now, after I graduated, that is when I ended up working as a senior social worker for child protective services.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: Um, so again, it was my role to investigate cases of child abuse and neglect.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: And my time working for the government was so eye-opening.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: Not only did I expose myself to the reality in which so many people are living, which is poverty, trauma, abuse, pain, unhealed trauma, so much more.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: I saw myself in all of these people.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: In every single case I worked, I saw myself.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: And I started to realize that the reason so many of us are suffering physically, emotionally, financially, mentally is because so many of us have so many unhealed parts to us.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: And for most people, it's because we've never done the inner work.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: I started to take note that it wasn't just the parents or the children that I was working with every single day struggling, but it was also my coworkers, educated individuals that seemingly had a similar path to myself, my friends who continue to make poor decisions, poor relationship choices, my fitness clients who seemed to be doing everything right on paper.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: They were going to the gym, they were cleaning up their diet.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: But all of us, all of us were struggling.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: And then I realized, wait, there's a common theme here.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: So many of us are living on some varying degree of suffering.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: So many of us are still running away from traumas that we experienced most as children.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: And I want to make something clear.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: I'm going to be talking about trauma quite a bit here.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: And when I do talk about trauma, I am not only referring to big traumas like abandonment, substance abuse, poverty, physical or sexual abuse, many of which I have experienced myself.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: We'll get into that a little later, but also smaller traumas, being bullied in school, having to live up to a certain expectation, having to be perfect, being told you weren't good enough.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: Those smaller traumas could be just as damaging if they are unhealed.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: So really, we all have experienced trauma.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: Now, I had already known through my studies in psychology and child development that our experiences as children shape who we become as adults.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: But the solution to healing, that pain, was always left obscure.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: I never really understood.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: Now, my colleagues and I, we learned about diagnoses.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: We had to study the DSM.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: We learned about the medications that accompany those diagnoses.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: But we didn't learn to inform our patients or our clients about the power of breath work or physical movement or somatics.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: We learned that you were more susceptible to depression if your mother was depressed, but not about the most deep layer of generational trauma or the science of epigenetics or the truth of neuroscience.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: Over the years, my curiosity grew deep, and I wanted to know how can we truly heal ourselves?
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: So over the years, through my own experience with trauma, uh my professional experience, and my constant love for just learning about holistic spiritual Western practices and modalities, I realized that healing truly starts from within.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: So in this podcast, we will talk about just that from how to heal your body, gut issues, relationship with food, to how to heal your mind, anxiety, depression, angst, worry, stress.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: I'll be sharing a lot of my own experiences to share lessons of healing, as well as having some pretty incredible guests who have also just have such innate wisdom when it comes to creating the life that you desire and deserve to live.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: So I'm so excited to be here.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: I'm so excited to be sharing with you all things healing, all modalities, all practices.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: Now, new episodes will be released Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: So make sure that you tune in if you want to learn all the ways to truly heal yourself from the inside out.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: We'll be talking about the psychology of the mind, how it operates, how we can master our own mind to use it to our advantage.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: We will talk about holistic approaches to wellness.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: What has worked for me?
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: What seems to be working for the greatest majority, as well as what is just straight bogus, right?
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: Some things, I mean, no.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: And there's a lot of misconceptions too around that.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: So we'll be discussing all of that as well.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: We will talk about how to connect with your highest self and truly live a life of purpose, most importantly.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: Now, if you like the sound of that, please subscribe to this podcast.
