- 0:04Speaker 1: NHL Unscripted is a production of the NHL and iHeart podcasts.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Coming up on NHL Unscripted handing out flowers to Norway?
- 0:25Speaker 2: What Norway Hockey? Are you kidding me? Beating Canada?
- 0:28Speaker 3: God?
- 0:28Speaker 2: This sucks to be Canadian.
- 0:30Speaker 4: Right now, I'm logging off talking about this.
- 0:35Speaker 5: I was told I was told this not this would
- 0:39Speaker 5: not be talked about.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Right Noway, talk right, tell your Canadian What the hell
- 0:43Speaker 1: are you dictating what we're gonna talk about. We were
- 0:45Speaker 1: all Canadian, with the exception of Nate, who's enjoying this
- 0:47Speaker 1: victory lap of Canada losing to Norway.
- 0:49Speaker 2: We'll also talk about just for Teal.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Habs and hab nots, Montreal folding in five, could have
- 0:54Speaker 1: win a game with them at home four straight games. God,
- 0:57Speaker 1: that was awfulet Santrabelle. But the bottom line is JD.
- 1:00Speaker 1: It is NHL and Scripted Finals time, baby, you and me.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Later on today we're gonna be in Stout for media day,
- 1:05Speaker 1: which is always fun. Here's Jack Eikele at the podium.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Then we listen to him for five minutes. Hey, how great,
- 1:09Speaker 1: Jack Eckle. Here's Mitch Barner at the podium. There's five
- 1:10Speaker 1: minutes of that. The finals begins Tuesday. It should be
- 1:13Speaker 1: a blast your thoughts if I'd said you two months ago, Carolina, Okay,
- 1:16Speaker 1: I can see that Vegas in the Cup final.
- 1:19Speaker 3: Wow.
- 1:20Speaker 5: Yeah, I think the veg it's really when you start
- 1:25Speaker 5: peeling back the layers on it.
- 1:27Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:27Speaker 5: I had Graham McPhee, who's George McPhee's son, and he's
- 1:33Speaker 5: an at he's an avid well he works for the
- 1:36Speaker 5: Golden Knights, and he was just kind of telling me,
- 1:38Speaker 5: he's like, we were talking about Vegas, and he's like,
- 1:41Speaker 5: we were missing our two best players most of the year.
- 1:43Speaker 5: Carter Hart was hurt most of the year. They kind
- 1:46Speaker 5: of just were this underlying, decent team that floated through
- 1:51Speaker 5: the season a lot like the I think it was Nay,
- 1:56Speaker 5: you can correct me too if I'm wrong. I think
- 1:58Speaker 5: it was the twenty twelve or the twenty fourteen La
- 2:00Speaker 5: Kings where they came in his lost seed and they
- 2:04Speaker 5: changed Darryl Sutter. Darryl Sutter came in mid season and
- 2:09Speaker 5: then they hit the playoffs and it was like juggernaut
- 2:12Speaker 5: and it was just like they were built for the playoffs.
- 2:15Speaker 5: And I think we talk about Toronto and we shot
- 2:18Speaker 5: on Toronto, Like that's what Toronto was trying to do,
- 2:20Speaker 5: is they're trying to build this playoff type team that
- 2:22Speaker 5: maybe wasn't the best jump off the page for a season,
- 2:28Speaker 5: but come playoff time, they're incredible. And then listen, they
- 2:31Speaker 5: also get William Carlson that comes back, and I think
- 2:34Speaker 5: he is such an important piece. It slots everybody in
- 2:36Speaker 5: the right position. And then you know, quickly on Carolina,
- 2:40Speaker 5: I mean, they were not far off from every one
- 2:43Speaker 5: of the best records in the NHL. So I think everybody,
- 2:45Speaker 5: everybody just wants to hate on Carolina. I think everybody
- 2:49Speaker 5: just has made it a point to hate that style
- 2:54Speaker 5: and dislike that they play. They rim the puck and
- 2:57Speaker 5: play simple and high flip and play fast. But fuck,
- 3:00Speaker 5: they're an exciting team to watch, man, they really are.
- 3:02Speaker 5: And I just think it's it's the two best teams
- 3:05Speaker 5: at the you know, at the right time, and the
- 3:09Speaker 5: two most deserved teams to be in these finals. And
- 3:11Speaker 5: I mean they walked through the playoffs other than Vegas
- 3:15Speaker 5: and Utah, they walked like Carolina. That's historic. Nate, like,
- 3:20Speaker 5: one loss is fucking insane.
- 3:22Speaker 1: But you mentioned the fact that they rim the PUCKA
- 3:24Speaker 1: who the hell wants to watch a rim fest?
- 3:26Speaker 2: I mean, if it's a bunch of rim jobs in.
- 3:27Speaker 1: The Cup five, hey, I'm now, I'm now the files.
- 3:33Speaker 1: The reason why I mentioned this is the special guest
- 3:34Speaker 1: today is Swishing. Swish's gonna get a little bit vulgar
- 3:37Speaker 1: as well, just as we know Jordan's gonna be coming
- 3:39Speaker 1: up a little bit later on.
- 3:40Speaker 4: Yeah, good luck with that one today. Diddy would good
- 3:44Speaker 4: luck rating him in.
- 3:45Speaker 1: But Nate temp to JD's point, I mean, god, I
- 3:47Speaker 1: was in studio with our buddies Thomas Hika and Bruce
- 3:49Speaker 1: Patroaux watching that game five, and I'm like, as all
- 3:51Speaker 1: as there's no overtime, and with then two minutes, I'm like, well,
- 3:53Speaker 1: there's not gonna ben overtime not show up in this game,
- 3:55Speaker 1: I'm like, oh my god.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Carolina was all over.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Them, and particularly with the Hurricanes pressure of the puck,
- 3:59Speaker 1: it was crazy. I kept saying, if it was a
- 4:01Speaker 1: football game and you start time of possession, he'd be
- 4:03Speaker 1: like forty two, then it's to eighty, Like once should
- 4:06Speaker 1: we get the puck for two seconds and they wouldn't
- 4:07Speaker 1: shoot it, and then Carolin would get it and that's it.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Turnover and the pressuring to me was just so impressive.
- 4:12Speaker 6: Yeah, it is.
- 4:13Speaker 7: And I'm one of those people, JD. I'm one of
- 4:15Speaker 7: those people that's guilty of just continually to doubt this
- 4:20Speaker 7: Carolina team. And I'm not gonna do it anymore. I'm
- 4:22Speaker 7: not just because it's it's it's crazy.
- 4:25Speaker 4: Take the nights nights and five.
- 4:29Speaker 6: Mush of reverse mush.
- 4:32Speaker 7: I just the way that they play and the way
- 4:35Speaker 7: you said it, like they went They've they went through
- 4:38Speaker 7: the first couple of rounds, first few rounds, I mean,
- 4:40Speaker 7: one loss throughout the whole playoffs is just absurd, and
- 4:44Speaker 7: and and the way that they play, and this year
- 4:46Speaker 7: just seems different to me, just because obviously the play
- 4:49Speaker 7: of Freddie Anderson, he's been incredible. You add that there D,
- 4:54Speaker 7: you know, KeAndre Miller, he's playing like an elite, elite
- 4:58Speaker 7: defenseman in this league right now, And then you add that,
- 5:01Speaker 7: I mean, it's just different this year too as well,
- 5:03Speaker 7: is because of their second life line, you know. And
- 5:06Speaker 7: then I think too, you're starting to see, especially in
- 5:09Speaker 7: the conference finals against Montreal, like that Aho Lion Jarvis
- 5:13Speaker 7: Shshnakov started to get going a little bit started to
- 5:15Speaker 7: play better. I don't know this this series is Razors thing.
- 5:19Speaker 7: It's it's it's splitting hairs.
- 5:21Speaker 6: It really is. I think it's that close.
- 5:23Speaker 7: I actually watched it and I agree with you with
- 5:25Speaker 7: you broke down at HL tonight about just the advantages
- 5:29Speaker 7: for both teams and how I agree.
- 5:31Speaker 6: I think it's so even on both.
- 5:33Speaker 4: Sides because of fun that show.
- 5:36Speaker 7: It looked fun, It looked fun with it did it
- 5:39Speaker 7: did because it was a great breakdown for both of
- 5:41Speaker 7: you guys.
- 5:42Speaker 5: But it was like fun to like and for people
- 5:45Speaker 5: didn't see it. We got to do it on NHL tonight,
- 5:48Speaker 5: me and Stuke Grimson. You know, they just put the
- 5:51Speaker 5: tangible you know, star power Forwards Defense Carolina. I mean
- 5:55Speaker 5: we could do it even quickly here goaltending and experience.
- 5:58Speaker 5: So like if I were to go to U three
- 6:00Speaker 5: star power, who's got the edge Vegas or Carolina?
- 6:03Speaker 4: In your mind? Vegas, Vegas?
- 6:07Speaker 5: I think it's all we can all agree Vegas and
- 6:09Speaker 5: you go forward group.
- 6:11Speaker 4: Who's got the better forward group?
- 6:13Speaker 6: Vegas? Yeah?
- 6:14Speaker 1: I might go Carolina only because it's stank coming home.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Blakeline has been so.
- 6:19Speaker 5: Role players. Who would you give the edge to? Bottom
- 6:22Speaker 5: six Carolina, Carolina. That's a razor thin though when you
- 6:26Speaker 5: look at it.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Her close, but it's close.
- 6:30Speaker 6: But I like the role players better for Carolina.
- 6:32Speaker 4: Yeah, decor Carolina, Yeah Carolina.
- 6:37Speaker 5: Okay, I mean KeAndre Miller is emerging as like a
- 6:39Speaker 5: superstar right in front of our eyes, like crazy, like
- 6:41Speaker 5: Rangers fans are are puking on themselves away. Goaltending is
- 6:47Speaker 5: the interesting one Vegas.
- 6:49Speaker 1: I'm going you're going Carter Hart, yes, because I'll tell
- 6:52Speaker 1: you why. Because in the first round he was okay,
- 6:54Speaker 1: but the last two rounds he's got hot, and I.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Think he's a little bit shreaky when he gets hot.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Watching I think slight edge of Freddy. Freddie Wood did
- 7:00Speaker 1: not face a lot of shots in that Montreal series.
- 7:02Speaker 1: I know he's been great, but I'm telling you now, playoff,
- 7:05Speaker 1: Freddy might have merged.
- 7:06Speaker 2: At some point. That's the thing. Everybody off Freddy might
- 7:08Speaker 2: have merged at some point.
- 7:09Speaker 6: I'm going Freddy.
- 7:10Speaker 5: I'm Freddy too. And then experience, which is Vegas clearly.
- 7:15Speaker 5: I mean, Vegas got what twelve cups.
- 7:16Speaker 4: On that team.
- 7:17Speaker 5: Yep, it'sn't a crazy I Evan Barbershev's one too. That
- 7:23Speaker 5: is random and he's going for his third not anyway that,
- 7:27Speaker 5: but it was it was a lot of fun to
- 7:28Speaker 5: just kind of you can you can make a case
- 7:30Speaker 5: for both teams.
- 7:31Speaker 4: And I just think it's incredible.
- 7:32Speaker 5: And I mean we're talking about the finals and we're
- 7:34Speaker 5: going to be here two times a week, folks, Yes,
- 7:37Speaker 5: all next two weeks ready, So I mean we could
- 7:40Speaker 5: really chop this up. It's just like it's it's really
- 7:44Speaker 5: gonna be an interesting battle these playoffs, I think, and
- 7:50Speaker 5: how I think the adjustments and and for me, the
- 7:52Speaker 5: most impressive thing to watch, impressive interesting thing to watch
- 7:57Speaker 5: is how they're gonna match the Lions, you know, because
- 8:01Speaker 5: like who who are you putting Marner, Carlson and Howden against?
- 8:06Speaker 5: Like are you putting them? Like who who is Brendan work?
- 8:08Speaker 5: Because obviously they're at Carolina is at home? Who are
- 8:11Speaker 5: they gonna match up that stankove in line with like
- 8:14Speaker 5: are they gonna go after Ikel? Are they going to
- 8:16Speaker 5: go after you know? Are they gonna go after Marner?
- 8:19Speaker 5: And same thing with the Aha line, like they're certain
- 8:20Speaker 5: to get hot? Like do you give Aicel to Ah?
- 8:23Speaker 5: And you know it's quite tough, man, It's gonna be
- 8:26Speaker 5: a chess match.
- 8:27Speaker 6: That is a major I mean I wonder too.
- 8:30Speaker 7: I thought about that as well as like, because then
- 8:32Speaker 7: I feel like you're I don't know, if you're matching
- 8:35Speaker 7: too much, then you're taking away you know, the flow
- 8:38Speaker 7: of the lines and have both teams roll fourth lines.
- 8:41Speaker 7: I mean I could see both coaches being like, fuck it,
- 8:44Speaker 7: just go whoever plays against anybody, let's go because it
- 8:48Speaker 7: both both roll them, because these four lines where both
- 8:50Speaker 7: teams can do that, and both coaches are not afraid
- 8:53Speaker 7: to play every line against whoever.
- 8:55Speaker 6: So I.
- 8:59Speaker 7: Think this is so close, so close. I honestly think
- 9:02Speaker 7: that each game could go into ot That's how close
- 9:04Speaker 7: are it is. It's just these these teams are just
- 9:07Speaker 7: built to win, built built, built so well defensively, I
- 9:12Speaker 7: think that's what it is. I mean analytically, I know
- 9:15Speaker 7: we can go in the numbers point to Carolina, but
- 9:18Speaker 7: I think when you said like star power, I think
- 9:21Speaker 7: that for Vegas that could be a difference as well.
- 9:24Speaker 4: You know, Jack fucking Jack I called the best two
- 9:29Speaker 4: hundred foot player in the game, apparently Adnan, but Mitch
- 9:33Speaker 4: Martin is there.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Well, that's what I say. Martin and Ikeel ranking first
- 9:36Speaker 2: and second of the playoff points.
- 9:37Speaker 1: So that's a compelling argumentoverson win the cons my score,
- 9:39Speaker 1: Ifea and Howden type for the playoff lead ten goals each.
- 9:43Speaker 1: But offensively for Carolina, it's pretty rare when your second
- 9:45Speaker 1: line is that dominant. Stan Coben, Hall and Blake combined
- 9:48Speaker 1: for nineteen goals in thirteen games in the postseason. I
- 9:52Speaker 1: was saying Tom, like, it's one of the great second
- 9:54Speaker 1: lines I've ever seen.
- 9:55Speaker 5: In playoff history. Crazy, Yeah, it's been. You know, they're
- 9:58Speaker 5: a second line. So I can't say that it's as
- 10:01Speaker 5: impressive as the HPK line, but it's like has that feeling,
- 10:06Speaker 5: you know, the HBK line, I says, somebody posts that
- 10:09Speaker 5: the pictures of those three fucking goons Benino, Kessel and Cargaglen,
- 10:14Speaker 5: but it has it's like a similar makeup, you know,
- 10:18Speaker 5: and it's it's interesting.
- 10:20Speaker 4: It's interesting to me.
- 10:21Speaker 5: And the one thing that impresses me with Carolina is
- 10:24Speaker 5: we we all were at fault. We were all making
- 10:26Speaker 5: fun of Tulski and the brain trust here. You know,
- 10:30Speaker 5: they lose out on Ranton and Gansel leaves marn Or
- 10:33Speaker 5: veto's a trade.
- 10:34Speaker 4: We're like, ah, they're a joke.
- 10:35Speaker 5: They bring in Stankovin, Elers, Hall, KeAndre Miller, everybody, Sean Walker,
- 10:41Speaker 5: everybody that they brought in through trade or free agency
- 10:45Speaker 5: has been as fit perfectly, so like they understand the
- 10:48Speaker 5: makeup of his team and like what Rod wants. But
- 10:51Speaker 5: this line, like like Logan Stankovin is like in front
- 10:56Speaker 5: of our eyes going to the center position after being
- 10:59Speaker 5: a winger most of his career, and like the way
- 11:02Speaker 5: they dominate.
- 11:03Speaker 4: It's like they apsolutely. Just sit and watch.
- 11:06Speaker 5: I implore all the viewers here sit and watch them.
- 11:10Speaker 5: It is so fun to watch them play. How much
- 11:13Speaker 5: skill compared with work ethic. Hall's been a beast in
- 11:17Speaker 5: terms of his physicality. And I had said, if there's
- 11:21Speaker 5: a line I'd put against Marner because I think Marner's
- 11:23Speaker 5: kind of an X factor, and everybody's been talking about
- 11:25Speaker 5: Marner's playoff Marner, no one's really tested him. Hall's been
- 11:29Speaker 5: running the skill guys Taylor Hall in these playoffs. That's
- 11:33Speaker 5: the line I'd match up William Carlson against, or I'd
- 11:37Speaker 5: put Stankman against that William Carlson line and just see
- 11:40Speaker 5: how it works.
- 11:40Speaker 4: It'd be a great matchup. But yeah.
- 11:42Speaker 5: I mean, I don't know what else you see from them, Nate,
- 11:45Speaker 5: But to me, like, who did I don't know if
- 11:50Speaker 5: you thought this, but I think it was Stuart oh Ken.
- 11:53Speaker 5: Danico looked at me, yes and goes, I didn't fucking know,
- 11:56Speaker 5: you know, Dano, And I was like, breath, I tell
- 12:00Speaker 5: you what, I didn't know this fucking Jackson Blake was
- 12:04Speaker 5: that good, this skilled.
- 12:06Speaker 4: And I was like, I didn't either, no idea.
- 12:10Speaker 1: I want to make the point as well. Tell the
- 12:12Speaker 1: Hurricanes this return they got for Ranton and go ahead.
- 12:15Speaker 8: I'm just gonna say from Eric Telsky that the Mark
- 12:18Speaker 8: Zuckerberg of the NHL.
- 12:20Speaker 4: Nice because ratten In, because the rattin In trade.
- 12:24Speaker 8: Was looked at as a fiasco for Carolina and then
- 12:26Speaker 8: everyone kind of forgot about it. They got Hall as
- 12:29Speaker 8: a throw in from Chicago in the first rattin In trade.
- 12:32Speaker 8: Then of course they got stank and stankovin, and they
- 12:35Speaker 8: got a first from Dallas, which they then flipped to
- 12:38Speaker 8: the Rangers to get ca Andre Miller. So actually it
- 12:42Speaker 8: was actually a nice little bit of voodoo from Eric
- 12:44Speaker 8: Telsky with with this whole rattin In situation, and look
- 12:47Speaker 8: where it's gotten them now. So that's just something I
- 12:49Speaker 8: mentioned to AAV while we're talking about the rattin In
- 12:51Speaker 8: trade and how it actually worked out.
- 12:53Speaker 4: Pretty good police job.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Yeah, they definitely took a lot of heap of the
- 12:56Speaker 1: rant and stuff. With regards to the defense, it's amazing
- 12:59Speaker 1: what Carolin has done. They tighten things up in this postseason.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Best defense in the playoffs the line just one point
- 13:03Speaker 1: six to two goals game. That includes along six goals
- 13:06Speaker 1: in Game one of the Conference Final. Vegas up and
- 13:08Speaker 1: down their defense, but they're done to two point three
- 13:11Speaker 1: eight goals per game of the playoffs. They allowed just
- 13:13Speaker 1: seven goals to Colorado in a four game sweep, So
- 13:15Speaker 1: that's awfully impressive.
- 13:16Speaker 3: Let me mention Heart and Freddy Anderson.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Of course, that matchup in net special teams is something
- 13:20Speaker 1: which is interesting. The main matchup Pears Vegas is power
- 13:23Speaker 1: play twenty three point nine percent in the playoffs, Carolina's
- 13:26Speaker 1: staunch pk and a half percent. Hurricanes power play has
- 13:30Speaker 1: been a non factor, just twelve and a half percent ate.
- 13:32Speaker 1: How could special teams impact this Cup final massively?
- 13:37Speaker 7: And I think this could be an X factor, and
- 13:39Speaker 7: especially for Vegas just because when I look at the
- 13:41Speaker 7: special teams, I think Vegas has the upper hand just
- 13:45Speaker 7: because of the power play and who they have for
- 13:48Speaker 7: the personnel and the power play. I just think that,
- 13:52Speaker 7: you know, and how good their PK has been too.
- 13:54Speaker 7: I mean, I know we talk about how good Carolina's
- 13:56Speaker 7: penalty kill has been the whole playoffs, but Vegas has
- 13:59Speaker 7: been just as good on top of that. And I
- 14:03Speaker 7: wonder too if for Carolina, like you know, last series,
- 14:08Speaker 7: I thought they made some adjustments on the power play
- 14:10Speaker 7: against Montreal and they started to get better looks, you know,
- 14:13Speaker 7: getting those big guys on the board, Like, oh, you know,
- 14:16Speaker 7: I look when I look at this series, I think
- 14:18Speaker 7: this could be The special teams obviously could be a
- 14:22Speaker 7: huge X factor and like I said, for for Vegas,
- 14:25Speaker 7: especially just because you know, like I said, with with
- 14:29Speaker 7: the people they have on their power play, that could
- 14:31Speaker 7: be the difference.
- 14:34Speaker 4: Yeah, it's going to be interesting to see.
- 14:37Speaker 5: You know, we mentioned all these guys and we still
- 14:39Speaker 5: haven't even mentioned Jacob Slavin yet, which is crazy.
- 14:43Speaker 4: That's when you show when you show how like.
- 14:47Speaker 5: Someone so many big players and you could label him
- 14:49Speaker 5: as a star player as well. He's gonna be big
- 14:53Speaker 5: at power play versus penalty kill. I mean that PK
- 14:57Speaker 5: for Carolina's is off the charts, so we'll see if
- 15:01Speaker 5: they can they can kind of weather it and and
- 15:03Speaker 5: see how discipline this stay.
- 15:05Speaker 4: But I mean, I was kind of.
- 15:07Speaker 5: Reaching out a little bit to a couple guys that
- 15:11Speaker 5: have won a bunch of Cups, And I talked to
- 15:13Speaker 5: Phil Kesseley yesterday and I was like, how, like, how
- 15:16Speaker 5: hard is it?
- 15:17Speaker 6: You know?
- 15:17Speaker 5: I was like, how hard was it for you to
- 15:20Speaker 5: get to the playoffs? Like how difficult was it? And
- 15:23Speaker 5: he was like, dude, he's like honestly, he's like the
- 15:25Speaker 5: finals felt the easiest of all the series. And I said, well,
- 15:30Speaker 5: why is that? I said, He goes, he goes, well,
- 15:32Speaker 5: we always had these tough divisional matchups early on. That's
- 15:36Speaker 5: so emotion based, and he goes, by the time you
- 15:38Speaker 5: get to the finals, you're just trying to win it, right,
- 15:41Speaker 5: and you the relief, you're almost you're almost relieved that
- 15:44Speaker 5: you're there, so like you just go out and play.
- 15:47Speaker 6: You're kind of like an autopilot almost, is what you're saying.
- 15:49Speaker 4: By the time, right, Yeah, like you've you've kind of
- 15:51Speaker 4: figured out your game, right.
- 15:52Speaker 6: Yeah, Yeah, which still these teams have for sure at
- 15:56Speaker 6: this point.
- 15:57Speaker 5: Yeah, and like it's specifically like yeah, it's just it's
- 16:00Speaker 5: it's weird anyway, sorry to I think I just went
- 16:03Speaker 5: completely off.
- 16:04Speaker 3: The I love it.
- 16:05Speaker 9: No, Yeah, we're talking.
- 16:06Speaker 2: I think we're just derails it a little bit fun.
- 16:09Speaker 6: Yeah, we're talking this series.
- 16:11Speaker 5: No, Nate's giving a nice heartfelt thing about the p
- 16:14Speaker 5: K Pelly going.
- 16:15Speaker 6: Yeah, Phil Kessel, No, I love storytime. I mean one
- 16:20Speaker 6: of your no, I mean twe of your points.
- 16:22Speaker 7: I was thinking like the second line, Like I was
- 16:24Speaker 7: thinking that looking back on different teams like Boston twenty eleven.
- 16:29Speaker 6: Like they had that second line.
- 16:30Speaker 7: That feel like that was a difference like this for
- 16:32Speaker 7: for Carolina, it feels like this could be the difference
- 16:34Speaker 7: with their second line they haven't had in the past.
- 16:36Speaker 6: You know who was that line again, Creachy Horton.
- 16:41Speaker 7: Yeah, and they had first line too, but that second
- 16:45Speaker 7: line was almost better that.
- 16:46Speaker 4: He was good. Yeah.
- 16:48Speaker 1: I meantime, the habs and the have nots, we're gonna
- 16:51Speaker 1: kick it to Tale. He can leave this one offal
- 16:53Speaker 1: Capturing the imagination of hockey fans these playoffs, obviously was
- 16:55Speaker 1: fun to see those crowds were electives by the fact
- 16:57Speaker 1: they were into a buzz saw in Carolina Nelson.
- 17:00Speaker 2: The good news is this, this team core is moving forward.
- 17:02Speaker 1: Phenomenal job by Jeff Gore, Kent Hughes had of course
- 17:06Speaker 1: Martan sant Luis, but they just they ran out of
- 17:07Speaker 1: gas quite frankly against the Hurricanes.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Patrick Lone is a UFA.
- 17:11Speaker 1: They've got a couple of restricted freedoms, but nobody major
- 17:13Speaker 1: as far as their key players are gonna be there.
- 17:15Speaker 3: They're the youngest team in the playoffs.
- 17:16Speaker 1: The course, signed long term and it looks like they
- 17:18Speaker 1: found their goalie in Yakub Doobich. So now the key
- 17:20Speaker 1: is tew do you trade Samuel Montambau.
- 17:23Speaker 3: What do you see here for the habs.
- 17:26Speaker 8: Well, Jeff Gordon and Ken Hughes have been active every
- 17:29Speaker 8: offseason They've They've made a significant trade every season or
- 17:32Speaker 8: every summer since they've been on the job. I'm assuming
- 17:35Speaker 8: they'll they'll do the same. If there's a big swing
- 17:38Speaker 8: to take, they're gonna make a change. Obviously, they had
- 17:41Speaker 8: Jake Evans as their second line center the entire playoffs.
- 17:44Speaker 8: I mean that's I like him as a player, but
- 17:46Speaker 8: he's not a second line center. Obviously, so the two
- 17:49Speaker 8: see discussion will continue this summer in Montreal. As far
- 17:52Speaker 8: as kind of breaking it all down, you know, like
- 17:56Speaker 8: you said, youngest team in the playoffs making it to
- 17:58Speaker 8: the conference final. I'm sure plenty of people all summer
- 18:01Speaker 8: will be calling them a fugezi because they got absolutely
- 18:04Speaker 8: dominated by Carolina.
- 18:05Speaker 2: But yeah, Sabers would at least gone six.
- 18:07Speaker 6: No, I don't.
- 18:08Speaker 4: I don't think that.
- 18:09Speaker 5: I I no, no, I think I'm tal I'm with
- 18:12Speaker 5: you on the two c is enormous. But the one
- 18:15Speaker 5: thing is like I think and Nate, you had a
- 18:19Speaker 5: great tweet and I was thinking the exact same thing yesterday.
- 18:22Speaker 5: It was I was like, I was like, Montreal is
- 18:26Speaker 5: all the reason, and I think everybody in the league,
- 18:28Speaker 5: consensus wise, is like hold your head up high, like
- 18:32Speaker 5: youngest team in the league, like they they I Carolina
- 18:37Speaker 5: was just ready, Like Caroline was ready. Montreal sil is
- 18:40Speaker 5: a long way to go. And it's like the biggest
- 18:42Speaker 5: thing with Montreal is that if they it's kind of
- 18:45Speaker 5: like a little bit like Philly, where do not speed
- 18:48Speaker 5: up the rebuild like you're not there yet, but like
- 18:52Speaker 5: you you got you gained like invaluable experience you found
- 18:56Speaker 5: out that you got up, you got to stut on
- 18:58Speaker 5: the back end. You found out that you got a
- 19:00Speaker 5: couple of dogs. Up front, you might have some, you
- 19:06Speaker 5: might have some guys you need to think about down
- 19:09Speaker 5: the line. I know people are saying cold caw Field,
- 19:11Speaker 5: you can't win with them, but Cole Cawfield's making but
- 19:14Speaker 5: seven or eight million for the next seven years, so
- 19:16Speaker 5: that's nothing, and where the CAP's going. And then you
- 19:18Speaker 5: got a number one starter in yack Abdoba, So I
- 19:21Speaker 5: think you know, Michael Hage is eventually coming in. Who's
- 19:26Speaker 5: supposed to be their two c Aren't they getting another?
- 19:29Speaker 5: Aren't they getting a big pick this year too? Or
- 19:31Speaker 5: is that not? That's not them? But they got a
- 19:33Speaker 5: bunch of prospects. So it's like to me, I'm like
- 19:36Speaker 5: a lot of Yeah. To me, it's like it's shine
- 19:39Speaker 5: Brett like a diamond. But I appreciate it, Tal. I
- 19:41Speaker 5: love that you're fit. Were hurt because we wanted the
- 19:44Speaker 5: heavy Ton to win, but I thought they'd get swept.
- 19:48Speaker 4: So even when they want one, I was like, fuck, four.
- 19:51Speaker 1: Straight losses at hometown, that's awful. It can't happen to
- 19:54Speaker 1: the playoffs in the Bell Center.
- 19:55Speaker 9: It was rough.
- 19:56Speaker 8: I mean, the only last thing I was going to say. Look,
- 19:58Speaker 8: Caroline has been working to this point for how.
- 20:00Speaker 6: Many years now eight?
- 20:01Speaker 8: You know, the core of this team has been at
- 20:03Speaker 8: it for a while aile, So I mean it's their
- 20:07Speaker 8: time clearly, you know. And that's that's a valuable lesson
- 20:11Speaker 8: for for the young core Montreal, like Carolina, they are
- 20:15Speaker 8: where this team wants to be, but they're obviously not
- 20:18Speaker 8: there yet. Lean Hudson said it after Game five, like
- 20:20Speaker 8: we're not there. We got a lot of work to do,
- 20:22Speaker 8: and and that's that's a good thing to know. I
- 20:24Speaker 8: think it would have been a problematic if maybe they
- 20:26Speaker 8: took two or three from Carolina and they think, oh, yeah,
- 20:29Speaker 8: we're on the same level as Carolina.
- 20:31Speaker 6: They're not.
- 20:32Speaker 8: And they got to figure out what they need to
- 20:33Speaker 8: do to get to that point. And that's what the
- 20:36Speaker 8: next two three years are going to be about for them.
- 20:38Speaker 4: Question for you, for all you three, you think Trocheck's
- 20:41Speaker 4: a good guy to go after?
- 20:43Speaker 7: I like, I love I'm a huge Trocheck fan, huge,
- 20:46Speaker 7: always been a Trocheck fan. I think he would I mean, yeah,
- 20:48Speaker 7: I mean to get a second center like him, Yeah,
- 20:51Speaker 7: I mean that I mean, you imagine put you put
- 20:52Speaker 7: Vinnie Trocheck in their lineup, and it's certain with Suzuki.
- 20:56Speaker 7: With Suzuki, that changes a lot of things. I mean,
- 21:00Speaker 7: that's what they're missing. Though they can get a second
- 21:02Speaker 7: line center, maybe maybe a little more size two going
- 21:05Speaker 7: to wing. But I mean they have so many assets
- 21:08Speaker 7: and so many things. I wonder what Ken Hughes does,
- 21:10Speaker 7: you know, I used to talk about, you know, not
- 21:12Speaker 7: speeding up the rebuild, and I agree, but I wonder
- 21:15Speaker 7: if he, you know, is like, all right, we have
- 21:16Speaker 7: so many assets right now for the next couple of years,
- 21:19Speaker 7: we gotta you know, we gotta get a player, we
- 21:21Speaker 7: gotta get two players, whatever it may be. But yeah,
- 21:25Speaker 7: what you were saying to your point, JD, like they're
- 21:27Speaker 7: they're they're playing with house money right now. And on
- 21:29Speaker 7: top of that, the experience these guys got, like we know,
- 21:31Speaker 7: we've seen guys in the playoffs when they get this
- 21:34Speaker 7: is they get this h these reps that Marty talked about,
- 21:37Speaker 7: where they can you know, experience the playoffs in this
- 21:41Speaker 7: deep it's it's invaluable for them moving forward.
- 21:45Speaker 6: All right.
- 21:45Speaker 1: That's the story when it comes to the Montreal Canadians
- 21:47Speaker 1: tough losses though for the hockey world. Of world Dennis
- 21:50Speaker 1: Hull five time. Also remember what the hockey's first family's
- 21:53Speaker 1: dying at the age of eighty four, But the hockey
- 21:55Speaker 1: world truly rocked by the news Thursday, the passing of
- 21:57Speaker 1: Claude lem You at age sixty. Lem Me was an
- 22:00Speaker 1: all time figure in the league, wing the Stanley Cup
- 22:02Speaker 1: four times, establishing himself as well the toughest agitators in
- 22:05Speaker 1: hockey history. Truly historic career, playing one two and fifteen
- 22:09Speaker 1: games over twenty one seasons, and after retiring as a player,
- 22:12Speaker 1: enjoyed success as an agent, representing players like Freddie Anderson
- 22:15Speaker 1: and most satur you saw an emotional Freddie Anderson talking
- 22:18Speaker 1: to Jackie Redmond at the end of the game.
- 22:19Speaker 3: He made one final public appearance.
- 22:21Speaker 1: Just three days before he died, when he carried out
- 22:23Speaker 1: the torch in Montreal before the Canadians hosted the Hurricanes
- 22:27Speaker 1: in Game three the playoffs. Yies, of course, we sent
- 22:28Speaker 1: all our thoughts and wishes to his family, but Jad,
- 22:30Speaker 1: this is a really sad story to see.
- 22:33Speaker 5: Yeah, it's it's you know, it's still tough thinking when
- 22:38Speaker 5: you you know, I got to see a couple of guys.
- 22:40Speaker 4: I had dinner with Scott Gomez.
- 22:44Speaker 5: A the day a couple of days ago or I
- 22:47Speaker 5: can't remember when, but just to talk to him about it.
- 22:50Speaker 5: And I saw Candaniko and you know, I had him
- 22:53Speaker 5: for a brief stint when I started my career.
- 22:55Speaker 4: So I was you know, I'm twenty twenty one years.
- 22:58Speaker 5: Old in Worcester, Massachusetts and Claude the mus making a comeback,
- 23:03Speaker 5: and you know, I've done a lot of kind of
- 23:06Speaker 5: more somber, you know, sad things. But the best story
- 23:11Speaker 5: I had with Claude the Mew is you know I had.
- 23:13Speaker 5: I had lunch with them a ton that like month
- 23:17Speaker 5: or so that he was with us in the minors.
- 23:18Speaker 5: But we played a I'll never forget. We played a
- 23:23Speaker 5: you know you played Juice Boys, the shootout contest where
- 23:28Speaker 5: everybody goes into a shootout and if you the last
- 23:31Speaker 5: person standing that doesn't score has to get juice for everybody.
- 23:35Speaker 5: But the way we did it in the Ahl at
- 23:37Speaker 5: Woosters we did they wanted to do a strip tease
- 23:40Speaker 5: shootout contest. So every time you miss, so every time
- 23:45Speaker 5: you missed, you had to take a piece of your
- 23:47Speaker 5: equipment off. So cut to cut to twenty five minutes later,
- 23:54Speaker 5: I'm seeing Claude de Meu, multiple Stanley Cup champion, legend,
- 24:00Speaker 5: Hall of Famer, running down in flip flops, butt naked,
- 24:04Speaker 5: taking the final shootout because he lost it, and but
- 24:08Speaker 5: with his with his son on the bench like screaming
- 24:11Speaker 5: at him, laughing at him, Brendan, and I'll never forget that.
- 24:15Speaker 5: It was one of the funnier things and a guy
- 24:17Speaker 5: of that age and and that ilk to like do
- 24:21Speaker 5: that with the guys, you know what I mean, like essentially,
- 24:26Speaker 5: and it just it just warms my heart to think
- 24:28Speaker 5: of that. You know, it was really sad the last
- 24:30Speaker 5: couple of days, and I was just trying to think
- 24:31Speaker 5: it as brief a time I had with him. They're
- 24:35Speaker 5: all great moments and he was a great guy and
- 24:37Speaker 5: he was he was a sweet man, and and that's
- 24:39Speaker 5: what you see. And I think it's just sad, you know,
- 24:42Speaker 5: the when when we leave like that, it's it's the
- 24:46Speaker 5: people we leave behind, and and maybe the questions is tough,
- 24:50Speaker 5: but yeah, I just got good memories with him, So.
- 24:55Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean it's it's uh, it's tough because but
- 24:59Speaker 7: at the same time, and when you think of clothing
- 25:01Speaker 7: you I mean, I think of.
- 25:04Speaker 6: Playing.
- 25:04Speaker 7: I mean you think of playoffs and how much of
- 25:07Speaker 7: a polarizing figure he was in the playoffs and what
- 25:09Speaker 7: he did, what he accomplished, And you know I was
- 25:11Speaker 7: I had the pleasure of, you know, getting to know
- 25:13Speaker 7: him just a little bit just through Brendan.
- 25:15Speaker 6: You know, I trained with Brendan.
- 25:17Speaker 7: When he was with LA in the off season, and
- 25:20Speaker 7: you know, like like you said, just got to experience
- 25:23Speaker 7: a couple of lunches with him, and you know, he's
- 25:26Speaker 7: such an He's an intimidating looking guy and then you
- 25:29Speaker 7: talk to him and he's so soft spoken and you know,
- 25:32Speaker 7: almost a kind of a big teddy bear and just
- 25:35Speaker 7: you would never have thought that so just tough. But
- 25:39Speaker 7: like I said, like like you said, you know, just
- 25:43Speaker 7: uh yeah, I guess I don't really know what else
- 25:46Speaker 7: to say, just because it's been you know, we we
- 25:48Speaker 7: talked about a little bit. JD just uh, whenever this
- 25:52Speaker 7: happens in the hockey world, he rocks everyone, right. So,
- 25:54Speaker 7: and I'm glad you got to uh to hang out
- 25:56Speaker 7: with Gomer. He was a guy that I texted well
- 25:59Speaker 7: as well, knowing that he played with uh, he played
- 26:02Speaker 7: with Claude as well.
- 26:03Speaker 5: Well you said it, Nate, and I think it's good
- 26:06Speaker 5: for people to go see is is you know, check
- 26:09Speaker 5: on your teammates? Right, yeah, not just and I think
- 26:11Speaker 5: that applies to like just us as general as people
- 26:15Speaker 5: like we get so caught up in our own world
- 26:18Speaker 5: and our own in our own day to day life
- 26:20Speaker 5: when it's like there's so many other things going on,
- 26:24Speaker 5: and sometimes just a text goes a long way, you know,
- 26:27Speaker 5: like I had I posted a video for you guys
- 26:30Speaker 5: on the check on your teammates, and there's a lot
- 26:32Speaker 5: of guys people that reached out to me that I
- 26:34Speaker 5: didn't even know that, you know, we're kind of going
- 26:37Speaker 5: through some shit, and I was like, it's just like
- 26:40Speaker 5: you don't even realize it. So it's like always just
- 26:43Speaker 5: telling people just sometimes the text is all somebody needs.
- 26:46Speaker 4: Hey, how you doing, what's going on? Everything? Good? Like
- 26:49Speaker 4: you good man.
- 26:50Speaker 5: That's that's where that's where it settles. And I think
- 26:53Speaker 5: it's important that that I'm glad you sent that to me, Nate,
- 26:55Speaker 5: and you kind of work with that great initiative because
- 26:58Speaker 5: I think it's so important to check on your teammates,
- 27:00Speaker 5: check on the your loved ones. Check on everybody around
- 27:03Speaker 5: you and try to help if he can.
- 27:07Speaker 1: I guess right again, her thoughts and prayers, going after
- 27:11Speaker 1: those families as it has been real, really terrible news.
- 27:12Speaker 2: There are the guards of claudel Meeu.
- 27:14Speaker 3: And Dennis Sault.
- 27:15Speaker 1: All right, time for quick break here in NHL and script,
- 27:17Speaker 1: and we come back. Jordan Schmaltz aka Swishy as entertaining
- 27:21Speaker 1: as it gets, always off the cups. Don't worry, he's
- 27:24Speaker 1: gonna go. Schmaltzy's gonna love it. It's gonna come up
- 27:26Speaker 1: next here. It's all in the script. Jit, he's already left.
- 27:42Speaker 10: Our next guest was drafted in the first round twenty
- 27:44Speaker 10: fifth overall by the Saint Louis Blues in the twenty
- 27:47Speaker 10: twelve NHL draft. He played three seasons at the University
- 27:50Speaker 10: of North Dakota before shooting up for forty two games
- 27:53Speaker 10: with the Blues and then playing in Finland and Switzerland.
- 27:56Speaker 10: Since ending his playing career, he's become one of the
- 27:59Speaker 10: most hilarious voices in hockey media, particularly on the Home
- 28:03Speaker 10: by three podcast with Russ Up Gucci. It's Jay Swish,
- 28:06Speaker 10: Jordan Schmaltz.
- 28:07Speaker 11: Everybody fellas, thank you for having me. Uh Verki tom Er, JD, Baby,
- 28:13Speaker 11: what's up? What's happening? Finally I get the invite. I
- 28:15Speaker 11: was getting iced out a little bit, I was getting edged,
- 28:19Speaker 11: but nonetheless thanks for making the time for me.
- 28:22Speaker 9: I'm happy to be here, fellas so swishy.
- 28:24Speaker 1: I wanted Tal to make the introduction because my introduction
- 28:27Speaker 1: to you was our shift together on HL tolight, which
- 28:29Speaker 1: of course nobody will ever forget, notably the censors in
- 28:32Speaker 1: this country, because I have to remind myself as the host.
- 28:35Speaker 1: In some ways, I'm sitting in the tone, so listen.
- 28:36Speaker 1: I know you're a funny guy. You're entertaining. You mentioned
- 28:39Speaker 1: that I looked like Cellyo's You mentioned the pod me
- 28:40Speaker 1: and JD. This guy seems a good people. And then
- 28:42Speaker 1: we discussed wrenches. I just discussed the fact that because
- 28:46Speaker 1: there was a Sean the Penguin's coach, Dan Muse, and
- 28:48Speaker 1: I said, JD calls him big Dick dan Muse because
- 28:50Speaker 1: he says with a deep voice like that, he must
- 28:52Speaker 1: have a big wrench. And then we came back out
- 28:53Speaker 1: of break and on television, on national television. I said
- 28:57Speaker 1: to you, Jordan, what do you think about the New
- 28:58Speaker 1: York calenders? In Matthew Shaffer's impact You go, guys. I
- 29:01Speaker 1: think he walked in holding his pants in the first
- 29:03Speaker 1: two of training camps, said here's my let's go. Did
- 29:07Speaker 1: you have any second thoughts after you said that.
- 29:08Speaker 3: When you said the look on Stuve Gribson's face.
- 29:11Speaker 9: No, you know to to be you know, truthful.
- 29:13Speaker 11: I wish I would lean more into the wrench shop, Urky,
- 29:16Speaker 11: just to seeing how much.
- 29:17Speaker 9: You were laughing as soon as you walked in.
- 29:20Speaker 11: Now, so if you back it up that day too,
- 29:22Speaker 11: I mean you were an emergency call up. Tony Luffman
- 29:25Speaker 11: went down with the I don't know if it was
- 29:27Speaker 11: the swine flu or whatever, but shingles, Yeah, it was
- 29:31Speaker 11: something he couldn't fight. So you came in. You went
- 29:33Speaker 11: full David Ayres. You were the emergency back up. And
- 29:37Speaker 11: when we were talking in the green room, like all right,
- 29:38Speaker 11: this guy's good ship, he's gonna be good vibes. But
- 29:40Speaker 11: I do remember watching you, you know, when I was
- 29:42Speaker 11: a kid on on Baseball tonight. So we got in
- 29:45Speaker 11: there and the things I was saying you were you
- 29:47Speaker 11: were coming to customer, You're starting to laugh a little bit.
- 29:49Speaker 11: I was like, all right, I got to lean into
- 29:51Speaker 11: this because I want to break Verky every chance I get,
- 29:53Speaker 11: So that was my goal. The whole ship was was
- 29:55Speaker 11: to get you to giggle, gets you to laugh, and
- 29:58Speaker 11: it was a lot of fun, man, and we had
- 29:59Speaker 11: we had some good chemistry right up the hop.
- 30:01Speaker 3: I agree a mission accomplished.
- 30:03Speaker 4: It was great.
- 30:03Speaker 5: Yeah, he's any guy to have ken with because he's
- 30:07Speaker 5: he's just so so fun loving and everything. But swish,
- 30:10Speaker 5: you know, before we get to a lot about you
- 30:13Speaker 5: and what you're up to, and you know the musings
- 30:16Speaker 5: and the misings and everything that you got going on,
- 30:18Speaker 5: I want to ask you quickly, you know all wrench
- 30:22Speaker 5: talk aside the Stanley Cup Finals set Carolina Vegas. I
- 30:27Speaker 5: need to know because you do have a very good
- 30:29Speaker 5: insight into the game as well, all comedy jokes aside.
- 30:33Speaker 5: I think you're very intelligent on your hockey knowledge. So
- 30:36Speaker 5: what are you expecting from these series right now?
- 30:40Speaker 9: Well, JD, I appreciate that. Well.
- 30:41Speaker 11: I was boots on the ground for Game four. Was
- 30:44Speaker 11: I fifteen drinks deep in row five? Some may say
- 30:47Speaker 11: it's not on me to the side, I don't count
- 30:49Speaker 11: my drinks. I'm a true professional and a coxman of
- 30:51Speaker 11: the game. So, but when I was watching that game,
- 30:53Speaker 11: in game four, you get some Montreal Canadians Carolina. Look,
- 30:57Speaker 11: I've been crucial on Carolina. I've so they've been a
- 30:59Speaker 11: little bit boring over the last you know, five six years.
- 31:02Speaker 11: The way that they play can be I don't know,
- 31:05Speaker 11: it just can lull you to sleep a little bit.
- 31:06Speaker 11: But that game Game four, I've never seen a team
- 31:09Speaker 11: get the puck off the wall and get in the
- 31:11Speaker 11: middle of the ice better than the Carolina Hurricanes.
- 31:13Speaker 9: To me, JD They're the best team in this series.
- 31:17Speaker 11: Now, Vegas has the star power, they do have the defense,
- 31:20Speaker 11: this and that, maybe the goaltender. But I was amazed
- 31:22Speaker 11: at the Carolina Hurricanes, like the way that the wingers
- 31:24Speaker 11: were getting the puck off the yellow, off the boards
- 31:27Speaker 11: and getting into the middle of the ice like no look,
- 31:29Speaker 11: passes through the neutral zone, slashing across the ice. I mean,
- 31:33Speaker 11: they just fully exposed Montreal and then you can know
- 31:35Speaker 11: what they can do when they get in the their ozone.
- 31:37Speaker 9: And their shot volume.
- 31:38Speaker 11: So when I'm looking at this series, I'm looking in
- 31:41Speaker 11: Carolina play that game because Vegas has been the best
- 31:44Speaker 11: team throughout the playoffs of keeping everyone to the outside,
- 31:48Speaker 11: and I think Vegas was tested early with Utah in
- 31:51Speaker 11: terms of their speed. They were able to get adjusted
- 31:53Speaker 11: to that. They made adjustments against Anaheim and then just
- 31:56Speaker 11: steam rolled through Colorado. So Vegas's neutral zone since Tortorella
- 31:59Speaker 11: has been there has been their best thing.
- 32:01Speaker 9: That's been the biggest difference.
- 32:02Speaker 11: I think it's just how they've defended and pushed everyone
- 32:05Speaker 11: outside of the dots.
- 32:06Speaker 9: But in saying that, Carolina.
- 32:08Speaker 11: With with their cohesive unit and their skill set up front,
- 32:12Speaker 11: you know they're gonna challenge to me. I still lean Vegas.
- 32:15Speaker 11: I still lean with them. I'm thinking six games, but
- 32:19Speaker 11: I should never know. I'm like four and eighteen in
- 32:21Speaker 11: these playoffs right now with my picks. So stay hot,
- 32:24Speaker 11: Swishy Vegas.
- 32:26Speaker 4: It's a good pick, Swishy, go ahead.
- 32:27Speaker 9: Yeah yeah, yeah.
- 32:28Speaker 7: I took Carolina and seven, but my picks aren't goody there.
- 32:30Speaker 7: I mean I had Tampa winning the Cups. That didn't
- 32:32Speaker 7: work out too well. You know, we were just both
- 32:35Speaker 7: in Montreal leaving trail comes trail. Let me speak here,
- 32:39Speaker 7: let me start the Montreal leaving some breadcrumbs for each
- 32:43Speaker 7: other all over Montreal. We just missed it. How was
- 32:46Speaker 7: how was your time in Montreal with Home by three.
- 32:49Speaker 7: Little bit of business and pleasure, Yeah, a little bit.
- 32:53Speaker 6: I know.
- 32:53Speaker 11: I well that night Tom where we were text and
- 32:55Speaker 11: I shut it down that I was Thursday night because
- 32:58Speaker 11: I was out toll like, I don't know, it might
- 33:01Speaker 11: have been six, I don't know. I'm not sure the
- 33:02Speaker 11: night before. So I shut it down that night like
- 33:04Speaker 11: a troop pro. But it was good.
- 33:06Speaker 9: We did our.
- 33:07Speaker 11: There's these new things that the kids are doing, these
- 33:10Speaker 11: in real life streaming backpacks. So we basically had one
- 33:13Speaker 11: of those backpacks and a camera guy with us and
- 33:15Speaker 11: we're kind of just buzzing around before the game.
- 33:17Speaker 9: We did our should we go out?
- 33:19Speaker 3: Bit?
- 33:19Speaker 11: We did end up making it out then went to
- 33:21Speaker 11: the game obviously, but it was a lot of fun.
- 33:24Speaker 11: It's crazy just you know how much different it is
- 33:26Speaker 11: in a Canadian market when you when you go into
- 33:28Speaker 11: those rinks and the team ends up losing, like everyone
- 33:32Speaker 11: is just so sad they go home. I saw it
- 33:34Speaker 11: in Edmonton two a couple of years ago at the
- 33:37Speaker 11: Stanley Cup. It's just crazy that it's just it literally
- 33:40Speaker 11: is a religion up there versus you know down here. Obviously,
- 33:42Speaker 11: people they love hockey, but it's it's a little bit different.
- 33:44Speaker 11: I don't think it's gonna affect their night, you know,
- 33:47Speaker 11: going afterwards in terms of the game and stuff like that.
- 33:49Speaker 9: So it was a lot of fun. I just would
- 33:51Speaker 9: have wish. I wish Montreal would.
- 33:52Speaker 4: Have scored a goal, let alone win, but pissed the drop.
- 33:56Speaker 1: That's basically I was speaking of scorings those small toy There
- 33:59Speaker 1: was a story the Montreal Strippers were gonna have a
- 34:01Speaker 1: walkout in time for the Grand Prix.
- 34:02Speaker 2: Did you see how the night was impacted?
- 34:05Speaker 1: Was there less of that Tom Fillery or maybe it
- 34:07Speaker 1: was out on the streets rather than Shane Parie.
- 34:09Speaker 9: Yeah, I don't know if they're out.
- 34:10Speaker 11: They were coming in from Wanda's or they they had
- 34:12Speaker 11: them imported from a local new roum.
- 34:14Speaker 9: I'm not sure where they were working the half all there,
- 34:17Speaker 9: but I might have to hit that up. I don't know.
- 34:21Speaker 4: I had it had the makings of a new room.
- 34:23Speaker 9: It was yeah, full of oil, there was everything.
- 34:26Speaker 11: Yeah, but I was gonna say, you know, I love
- 34:30Speaker 11: the Yarrow Hallock walk out, but I was thinking maybe
- 34:32Speaker 11: for that must win game, they might have needed George's
- 34:35Speaker 11: Larac just just a stiff chin to walk out or
- 34:37Speaker 11: something like that. No disrespect Yarro Hallock obviously a great Canadian,
- 34:41Speaker 11: but something that just to wheel the boys into the fight.
- 34:45Speaker 4: I would have liked with the Dobe shine, I know.
- 34:48Speaker 5: Uh yeah, it would have been tough, but a tough,
- 34:50Speaker 5: tough showing by the Canadians. But a young team. But
- 34:54Speaker 5: speaking of young Jordan Schmaltz is nice. You played at
- 34:59Speaker 5: No Dak. Talk to me about that experience played with
- 35:01Speaker 5: your brother, we both played with him, Big.
- 35:04Speaker 4: Nick Schmalls miss. Uh, just talk.
- 35:08Speaker 5: A little bit about that and and that experience that
- 35:11Speaker 5: the heritage, the history of Nodak hockey.
- 35:15Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean it was. It was great.
- 35:16Speaker 11: Like we ever we're doing our golf trip that we
- 35:19Speaker 11: don't golf on. It's hilarious.
- 35:21Speaker 4: That's the best thing ever you got to tell us
- 35:22Speaker 4: about that.
- 35:23Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 35:23Speaker 11: So that's this week coming up in Chicago. Is it's
- 35:25Speaker 11: all of our buddies that played at North Dakota. It's
- 35:27Speaker 11: probably from an era of the freshman class of twenty
- 35:30Speaker 11: twelve to twenty seventeen. So you got guys, you know,
- 35:33Speaker 11: I'm gonna name drop a little bit, but we got guys,
- 35:35Speaker 11: you know, Troy Stetchers, Brock, Besser, my brother Drake, Cajula,
- 35:40Speaker 11: guys still playing, guys that are finance guys, guys that
- 35:43Speaker 11: sell insurance. But we we all come together for one
- 35:46Speaker 11: weekend of the year and this is our tenth annual
- 35:48Speaker 11: trip coming up here in the guts of Chicago.
- 35:51Speaker 9: So I'm fired up for that.
- 35:52Speaker 11: We got a Cubs game on the slate, We're gonna
- 35:54Speaker 11: take a well, Chilly's gonna take us out on his
- 35:56Speaker 11: boat one day, so that'll be.
- 35:57Speaker 3: Like, oh nice, I love that. I look forward to that.
- 36:00Speaker 9: Yeah, we're gonna do that. And then yeah, yeah, thanks Turky, Hey, Kelly, Yeah, the.
- 36:05Speaker 11: Greek god over there. But JD just kind of tied
- 36:07Speaker 11: it all together. I mean that that university is obviously
- 36:09Speaker 11: so special to me. My whole family is from the
- 36:12Speaker 11: city of or the town of Bismarck, North Dakota, which
- 36:15Speaker 11: is just three hours away from from Grand Forest, where
- 36:17Speaker 11: the university is. And the program's amazing, man. I mean,
- 36:20Speaker 11: I think now you're gonna even see more of it
- 36:22Speaker 11: because of how they're opening it up to the chl
- 36:26Speaker 11: kids coming down from you know, especially the Western League
- 36:28Speaker 11: to to North Dakota. There's been a big connection there
- 36:31Speaker 11: thus far, in the last two years, so.
- 36:32Speaker 9: It's a great university. Man. They got a really good
- 36:36Speaker 9: coach there.
- 36:37Speaker 11: The the other two coaches, the assistant coach, Dylan Simpson
- 36:40Speaker 11: was my d partner for two years, and then Bryn
- 36:42Speaker 11: Chiswick is the general manager. He was my roommate for
- 36:45Speaker 11: for three of those years there. He's is a really
- 36:46Speaker 11: close friend and a sharp hockey mind. So they're in
- 36:49Speaker 11: good hands there, man, And I can't wait to see
- 36:52Speaker 11: you kind of just moving forward with Dan Jackson, but
- 36:53Speaker 11: JD all you guys, I don't know if you've ever
- 36:56Speaker 11: been there. If if you're ever in that neck of
- 36:58Speaker 11: the woods, I don't know why you would be, But
- 37:00Speaker 11: to check out that arena is it's I think it's
- 37:03Speaker 11: the best in the world.
- 37:03Speaker 5: To be honest, I might have to do a live
- 37:05Speaker 5: stream from there on script.
- 37:07Speaker 9: Yeah you should.
- 37:08Speaker 11: I mean, if you're if you're in the like Vegas
- 37:10Speaker 11: of the North, if you're in Winnipeg, you can slide down.
- 37:12Speaker 9: It's only two hours.
- 37:13Speaker 4: Yeah, catch catch a CFL game.
- 37:17Speaker 6: Oh great, there you go.
- 37:18Speaker 9: The gray man. I'm trying to. I'm actually trying to.
- 37:22Speaker 11: I don't know if they're gonna allow me on the
- 37:24Speaker 11: on the panel because they'll probably see two of my
- 37:25Speaker 11: tweets and be like this, guys, uh, we might have
- 37:28Speaker 11: to say no, But I'm trying to get on a
- 37:29Speaker 11: panel for a Great Cup game this year with my buddy.
- 37:31Speaker 4: Yeah, talk about we joked before, talk about your love
- 37:35Speaker 4: for the CFL and how it's the greatest trophy in sports,
- 37:39Speaker 4: and also how you were at the last Great Cup.
- 37:43Speaker 6: I think I was.
- 37:44Speaker 11: I was, I was boots on the ground, I was
- 37:46Speaker 11: on the field. I was the one hundred and thirteenth
- 37:47Speaker 11: edition Live Where it was Where it was, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
- 37:51Speaker 9: Yeah, Princess Otto Stadium.
- 37:52Speaker 11: It's it's a great stadium by the way, it's I
- 37:54Speaker 11: would say it's a top thousand stadium in the world.
- 37:58Speaker 11: But the the my love for the CFL is I
- 38:01Speaker 11: mean it runs deep.
- 38:02Speaker 6: Man.
- 38:02Speaker 9: It's the hardest nine team league in the world.
- 38:04Speaker 11: The fact that you only get three downs, you're playing
- 38:06Speaker 11: with like glorified watermelon for a ball. Like, there's so
- 38:09Speaker 11: many just different nuances of the game that I truly love.
- 38:12Speaker 11: And it actually goes back to North Dakota. One of
- 38:15Speaker 11: my my freshman year roommate, Colton Sanderson, was from Moose
- 38:18Speaker 11: Jaw and he would he loved the rough Riders. So
- 38:20Speaker 11: I was all in on the rough Riders from from
- 38:23Speaker 11: day one when I showed up on campus, partially because
- 38:25Speaker 11: I thought it was hilarious that he actually took this
- 38:27Speaker 11: league seriously, and.
- 38:28Speaker 9: Then I came accustomed to it.
- 38:30Speaker 11: And the fact that too, that like you could go
- 38:33Speaker 11: hypothetically like two and seventeen through the whole year and
- 38:37Speaker 11: you can still make the playoffs, playing the crossover game,
- 38:39Speaker 11: going to the Hambleton, win a game, steal one on
- 38:42Speaker 11: the road, and the next thing you know, you're playing
- 38:44Speaker 11: the Alouettes and hey, we're playing for a gray baby.
- 38:46Speaker 11: So you're never out of the fight in the CFL,
- 38:48Speaker 11: which I truly do love and I don't know if
- 38:51Speaker 11: you guys, just seeing the game.
- 38:53Speaker 1: Come on that's all the best.
- 38:57Speaker 11: And the fact that too, back in the day, there
- 38:59Speaker 11: was nine teams in the league and two of them
- 39:01Speaker 11: had the same name. They're the Outawa rough Riders the
- 39:04Speaker 11: Saskatchewan rough Riders.
- 39:05Speaker 9: I mean, that's just creativity.
- 39:07Speaker 6: That's fine. At fellas, you forgot to make I forgot
- 39:10Speaker 6: to mention.
- 39:13Speaker 4: Who's your favorite?
- 39:13Speaker 11: Yeah, you know, Verky, I like Fluty, but I was
- 39:18Speaker 11: always a Ricky Ray guy sticky sticky and uh, you know.
- 39:24Speaker 9: God bless him. I mean that guy.
- 39:29Speaker 4: Mechanic.
- 39:30Speaker 9: I mean, do you guys.
- 39:32Speaker 11: Know that he had six Tommy John surgeries and he
- 39:34Speaker 11: still battled through it.
- 39:37Speaker 4: I didn't know that forever.
- 39:39Speaker 11: I just made that up. But he was an absolute gunslayer.
- 39:42Speaker 11: He was like Uncle Rico from Napoleon Dynamite. He could
- 39:44Speaker 11: throw all over that quarter mile.
- 39:48Speaker 7: Yes, honestly he forgot about the running start too.
- 39:55Speaker 6: They get a running yet. About that running start, I.
- 39:58Speaker 9: Mean those guys run a forty yard dash before the start.
- 40:00Speaker 6: Yeah, exactly.
- 40:02Speaker 9: It's crazy. It's like, fellow, what do you clock him?
- 40:06Speaker 9: Are you off four two? You play on a practice squad,
- 40:10Speaker 9: got hands like feet, but sign.
- 40:12Speaker 6: Them speaking speaking a big moments.
- 40:15Speaker 7: So I'm gonna go back and talk to me about
- 40:18Speaker 7: your first call up twenty seventeen. Petangelo gets hurt. Tell
- 40:22Speaker 7: us through that to talk to us through that story
- 40:24Speaker 7: right there.
- 40:25Speaker 11: Yeah, I mean the Blues were so loaded on the
- 40:28Speaker 11: back end like they were. I mean, hindsight's always twenty twenty.
- 40:31Speaker 11: Maybe I play another year at North Dakota and just
- 40:33Speaker 11: signed as a free agent. But they were loaded.
- 40:35Speaker 6: Man.
- 40:36Speaker 11: They had Shatton Kirk, they had Petro Perako had just
- 40:38Speaker 11: came in Porto was there, so they had a great decour.
- 40:41Speaker 11: Obviously they were on a cups of you know, winning
- 40:44Speaker 11: almost every year.
- 40:44Speaker 9: But I just remember that game was it was in Colorado.
- 40:47Speaker 11: Colorado at the time was not great, and there was
- 40:50Speaker 11: a face off play.
- 40:51Speaker 9: I think I played like sixteen minutes.
- 40:53Speaker 11: Maybe you have to check the game notes on that,
- 40:54Speaker 11: but I think it was like fifteen or sixteen minutes.
- 40:56Speaker 9: And it was later in the year.
- 40:58Speaker 11: They had just gotten rid of Shattonkirk, they had trade
- 41:01Speaker 11: him to Washington, so there was a little bit of
- 41:03Speaker 11: a spot. Petro goes down. I step in play a
- 41:06Speaker 11: game and I was just I was out there with
- 41:08Speaker 11: the fourth line obviously, and it was Upshall, Brodziak and Reeves.
- 41:12Speaker 9: So I'm playing with these guys.
- 41:13Speaker 11: There's a face off on the right side in the
- 41:16Speaker 11: offensive zone and not playing the right point, and we
- 41:18Speaker 11: kind of run like a set face off play. And
- 41:19Speaker 11: you guys know those set face off plays.
- 41:21Speaker 9: Like rarely do they work.
- 41:22Speaker 11: Like you know, you drop it up, You're like, yeah, yeah,
- 41:24Speaker 11: I just win the fucking face off.
- 41:26Speaker 4: Let's do that first. And annexation of Puerto Rico. We're
- 41:29Speaker 4: gonna get him here, boys.
- 41:30Speaker 11: Right, and the fact that I'm maybe even gonna touch
- 41:33Speaker 11: the puck on this play, like all right, whatever, So
- 41:34Speaker 11: they actually Brodziak snaps it back. He was good to
- 41:37Speaker 11: Dot and it was a play where I kind of
- 41:39Speaker 11: just walked to the middle of the ice, right around
- 41:41Speaker 11: you know, the neutral zone. Dot sent it to Upshall,
- 41:43Speaker 11: who was on the half wall, and it was kind
- 41:45Speaker 11: of like a just like a slap play to the
- 41:47Speaker 11: net and Revo ended up scoring and uppyst celebration on
- 41:52Speaker 11: that play for an assist. I got a second assist,
- 41:55Speaker 11: but Uppy celebration on that place you'd have thought he
- 41:57Speaker 11: won the Stanley Cup, Like he like looked to the
- 41:59Speaker 11: sky and like, what did you do last night? Why
- 42:01Speaker 11: are you celebrating so bad? But yeah, it was it
- 42:05Speaker 11: was pretty cool. I mean it was such a veteran
- 42:06Speaker 11: group and so many good guys. I just remember, like
- 42:09Speaker 11: alex Steen was was always the best guy to.
- 42:11Speaker 9: Me, and j Bowmeister and nice you know, real good dudes.
- 42:14Speaker 11: So that's always it's always been an old school organization,
- 42:17Speaker 11: but even more so then.
- 42:18Speaker 1: Yeah, let's talk more about that time with the Blue swishing,
- 42:20Speaker 1: you know, playing on the team of Jayden Schwartz. How
- 42:22Speaker 1: often was it confusing Jordan Schmalls and Jaden Schwartz.
- 42:26Speaker 11: Yeah, well that's what all the media guys would always say.
- 42:28Speaker 11: They would be like, you know, they get their tongues twisted.
- 42:30Speaker 4: You know.
- 42:31Speaker 11: Verkey he's a he's a movie buff himself. Like Schwartz,
- 42:33Speaker 11: he's a low profile guy. Nice if you're talking one liners,
- 42:37Speaker 11: he's one of the best.
- 42:38Speaker 4: He's up there, he is.
- 42:40Speaker 9: Yeah, he really is.
- 42:40Speaker 1: I was gonna see with the name like Jayden Schwartz,
- 42:42Speaker 1: I think of spaceballs. Schwartz is as big as mind.
- 42:45Speaker 3: Let's see how you handle it.
- 42:46Speaker 4: Yeah, like he was.
- 42:47Speaker 11: He was always the guy walking in the in the
- 42:49Speaker 11: locker room or maybe like you know, get into a
- 42:51Speaker 11: restaurant in a bar like shame was O'Toole, I'm ready
- 42:55Speaker 11: to get drunk.
- 42:55Speaker 3: You know.
- 42:57Speaker 11: He was like wedding crasher lines and old school. Yeah,
- 43:00Speaker 11: he's witty for sure. Sasky guy, right.
- 43:02Speaker 5: Nice Sasky guy. You know, you play some HL hockey,
- 43:08Speaker 5: play with some big names, you end up over in
- 43:10Speaker 5: Europe and you know you I think at one point
- 43:16Speaker 5: I played at during the lockout in the not the
- 43:20Speaker 5: Swedish League, but the Finnish League, and I was dubbed
- 43:23Speaker 5: the king of all of Finland. But I'd heard from
- 43:26Speaker 5: some friends of mine that you became the king of
- 43:28Speaker 5: Helsinki when you went there. Talk to me about your
- 43:31Speaker 5: time in Europe. What's your favorite story or fondest memory
- 43:36Speaker 5: of being over there in the last couple of years.
- 43:38Speaker 11: Yeah, I actually, JD. I never wanted to leave Finland,
- 43:41Speaker 11: to be honest. It was just neither did I the organization.
- 43:45Speaker 11: I mean a lot, yes, a lot of saunas. Speaking
- 43:48Speaker 11: of wrench out, yeah's heavy wrench fellas.
- 43:52Speaker 9: Are we gonna go hang out at the bar here, you.
- 43:54Speaker 11: Know other people or just want to chill in the
- 43:57Speaker 11: sun and stare at each other?
- 43:59Speaker 9: But yeah, hell sink.
- 44:01Speaker 11: You get over the fact that it gets dark at
- 44:03Speaker 11: two pm, You're like, I can't go to the bar yet.
- 44:06Speaker 11: Once you get over that, amazing people JD. Like you
- 44:09Speaker 11: know you were you were up in Olu, which is crazy.
- 44:11Speaker 11: You were almost at the Arctic Circle, Like.
- 44:13Speaker 5: Hey, yeah, it wasn't two pm. Some went down, It
- 44:17Speaker 5: was like ten am.
- 44:18Speaker 9: That's it never came up.
- 44:20Speaker 5: Where were you never ca It just hovered it just
- 44:23Speaker 5: like hovered halfway up and you're like, what the what's
- 44:25Speaker 5: going on over here?
- 44:26Speaker 11: But yeah, yeah, but I loved it, man. I mean
- 44:28Speaker 11: that rink and Helsinki, that old school rink is eighty
- 44:31Speaker 11: two hundred people sold out pretty much every night and
- 44:34Speaker 11: around town. I mean I was known as the Fella,
- 44:37Speaker 11: that's what they would call me. So it was I
- 44:39Speaker 11: had a lot of fun there. I never wanted to
- 44:41Speaker 11: leave with just the U. The organization kind of after
- 44:44Speaker 11: we lost out in the first round went a different
- 44:46Speaker 11: direction and I ended up in Switzerland. But yeah, Finland
- 44:50Speaker 11: will always have a soft spot in my heart. I
- 44:52Speaker 11: love that place. Great people and as you know JD,
- 44:56Speaker 11: none of them talk. They're like military soldiers and then
- 44:58Speaker 11: you get them on the piss and they don't shut up.
- 45:01Speaker 9: They like know every little thing about you.
- 45:02Speaker 11: It's like, dude, I didn't even know if you knew
- 45:04Speaker 11: I was on this team, but then they knew, like
- 45:06Speaker 11: your history, where you're from, they you know your blood type.
- 45:10Speaker 11: Yeah exactly. It's they're crazy, man.
- 45:12Speaker 2: So did you where'd you go?
- 45:14Speaker 5: Like, because you always have those international breaks. Yeah, which
- 45:18Speaker 5: was my favorite when I was there because I was
- 45:19Speaker 5: like I got to go visit a bunch of countries
- 45:21Speaker 5: and did you go anywhere special avenue good? Did you
- 45:24Speaker 5: link up with any of the other imports?
- 45:27Speaker 11: Yeah, I I Alex Broadhurst was on my team who
- 45:30Speaker 11: played a little bit in Columbus now he's in the KHL.
- 45:32Speaker 11: I played with him all the way growing up and
- 45:34Speaker 11: then in junior, so we we had a little.
- 45:36Speaker 9: Bit of a at a gall at the time.
- 45:37Speaker 11: So we had a nice little Freddie couple's thing going
- 45:40Speaker 11: on where we could kind of travel with them and
- 45:41Speaker 11: do them some things. But honestly, Copenhagen was was the
- 45:46Speaker 11: coolest place that we win. I love that city. You know,
- 45:48Speaker 11: I've been to a decent amount of spots. I'm not
- 45:50Speaker 11: Johnny Europe, but I've been to a decent amount of
- 45:52Speaker 11: spots over there.
- 45:52Speaker 9: Copenhagen, JD. That was my favorite.
- 45:55Speaker 4: I love that city to jump in swishy.
- 45:57Speaker 1: If you look at the Happiness Index every year, Denmark
- 45:59Speaker 1: always ranks number one happiest people on Earth.
- 46:02Speaker 11: Oddly enough that I heard that they all just go
- 46:04Speaker 11: of the pubs and just ride their bikes half licked, like,
- 46:12Speaker 11: get on a bike, man, it's whatever, fine getting your
- 46:15Speaker 11: ten speed.
- 46:15Speaker 9: Yeah, I like that city a lot. It's clean, really
- 46:18Speaker 9: good restaurants.
- 46:19Speaker 11: I mean, if you're like into the Michelin star stuff,
- 46:21Speaker 11: there's a ton of those there. I think it might
- 46:23Speaker 11: be per capital of the most. But I just love
- 46:25Speaker 11: the pub culture and the people are great.
- 46:28Speaker 6: A lot more thc over there to everyone's happy all
- 46:30Speaker 6: the time.
- 46:31Speaker 9: Yeah, smoking if you got them?
- 46:35Speaker 7: So after I got to ask you, so after the
- 46:37Speaker 7: gold medal game Canada US, you had a pretty important
- 46:41Speaker 7: FaceTime with some of the.
- 46:42Speaker 6: Fellas from the plane. How did that come about? Yea?
- 46:47Speaker 6: And who? And who was the most banged up that
- 46:49Speaker 6: you were talking to?
- 46:51Speaker 11: The most banged up for sure was I think it
- 46:54Speaker 11: was probably Millsy on there because he was sleeping. They're
- 46:57Speaker 11: like they were trying to wake them up on camera.
- 46:59Speaker 11: I would say it was the Ka Chucks probably they
- 47:03Speaker 11: were half licked.
- 47:04Speaker 9: Acavoy was going.
- 47:05Speaker 11: But the reason it all started was was Clayton Keller
- 47:08Speaker 11: had texted us. He actually texted a friend of ours,
- 47:11Speaker 11: jd you know or Coach Darr and he's like, hey,
- 47:14Speaker 11: do these guys have a producer? Like, no, they don't
- 47:18Speaker 11: have a producer, Like what do you mean? Like it's
- 47:20Speaker 11: a it's home by three?
- 47:22Speaker 4: You guys are soup to Nuts.
- 47:23Speaker 11: Yeah exactly, we're Nuts and Bolts over to.
- 47:26Speaker 9: Do we have a producer?
- 47:28Speaker 11: So he texted Dar that and it's like because I
- 47:31Speaker 11: want to surprise him on the on the you know,
- 47:33Speaker 11: jumping in on their they're live right now. They just
- 47:36Speaker 11: happen to be live and we're flying to the White House,
- 47:37Speaker 11: like we want to jump in. Uh So Jar was like, no,
- 47:41Speaker 11: they don't, they don't have a producer. You just text them.
- 47:43Speaker 11: And we get a text from Kel's and the groups
- 47:45Speaker 11: like yo, send us to link and we're like what like.
- 47:48Speaker 5: And then and for everybody at home, Kel's just sends
- 47:50Speaker 5: a text to you that says yo, literally yes, and
- 47:53Speaker 5: then you're like what that was it just yo, He'll
- 47:56Speaker 5: send that to you random and you're like, yes, yeah exactly, Like.
- 48:01Speaker 11: Yeah, so we're live, we're live on just a normal
- 48:03Speaker 11: day on Home by three, probably talk about the Epstein files.
- 48:06Speaker 9: And then we're just from real.
- 48:09Speaker 11: Yeah, get a text from Kelsey's like yo, let us
- 48:12Speaker 11: on send us the links and we're like, what are
- 48:14Speaker 11: you talking about?
- 48:15Speaker 9: They're like, we want to call in.
- 48:16Speaker 11: So they called in. They're on Air Force two and
- 48:19Speaker 11: it was pretty funny. They were they were literally just
- 48:21Speaker 11: coming off a night probably two hours of sleep maybe
- 48:24Speaker 11: if that, from eleven in Miami and they call in.
- 48:28Speaker 9: Amatz was on there, so it was cool.
- 48:30Speaker 11: You know, those those pretty special for them to call
- 48:33Speaker 11: in and you know, we I don't like to you guys. Know,
- 48:36Speaker 11: it's hard to beg guys to come on and different
- 48:38Speaker 11: things like that throughout the year, and it just so
- 48:40Speaker 11: worked out that, you know, the timing was great, and
- 48:44Speaker 11: you know, I really appreciated those boys, especially the ka
- 48:47Speaker 11: Chuck's just yelling that's baseball the entire time.
- 48:51Speaker 1: Last one for me Swishing Coyotes twenty twenty and get
- 48:54Speaker 1: to read it with your brother.
- 48:54Speaker 4: How cool was that?
- 48:56Speaker 9: Yeah? That was That was a training camp I went to.
- 48:59Speaker 11: It was the that was like it was a nuts time,
- 49:04Speaker 11: like just in terms of the Coyotes, like Chika had
- 49:06Speaker 11: just stepped down, Billy was coming in.
- 49:10Speaker 9: They had not hired him yet. Sullivan was like the
- 49:13Speaker 9: interim GM.
- 49:14Speaker 11: So I went into that camp and I was like, Okay, well,
- 49:17Speaker 11: you know it's close to home here where I'm living.
- 49:19Speaker 11: I don't really I had some other places I can
- 49:21Speaker 11: maybe have signed a two way or something like that,
- 49:23Speaker 11: but I'm like, I want to go like, this is
- 49:24Speaker 11: my last kick at the can to maybe try to
- 49:26Speaker 11: play with Nick, like I want to do it. So
- 49:29Speaker 11: it didn't end up working out how I wanted it to.
- 49:32Speaker 11: I was down in the Dirty Tea and Tucson going
- 49:35Speaker 11: to dollar beer nights at Gentle Bends.
- 49:36Speaker 9: But it was it was cool.
- 49:39Speaker 11: It was a lot of fun. Yeah, that place is
- 49:44Speaker 11: it's not perfect. So I was playing. I played that
- 49:46Speaker 11: majority of the year down there in Tucson, but I
- 49:50Speaker 11: was I was hoping they were just going to give
- 49:51Speaker 11: us a game because the Coyotes weren't, you know, very
- 49:54Speaker 11: good at the time. They're they're okay, you know, veteran group.
- 49:56Speaker 11: But yeah, it was cool. We got to play against
- 49:58Speaker 11: each other twice I think in the NHL maybe three times,
- 50:00Speaker 11: so that that was probably the most special kind of
- 50:03Speaker 11: thing about that.
- 50:03Speaker 5: So yeah, yeah, listen, uh Switch, you had a great
- 50:07Speaker 5: career and and you know, and your transition and media
- 50:12Speaker 5: and what you've done is pretty pretty impressive. You guys
- 50:15Speaker 5: start with Hockey Night in Scottsdale. Yep, you also have
- 50:19Speaker 5: Live and five, You've you've so many different things going on,
- 50:21Speaker 5: but Hockey Knight Scottsdale gets going, had some big time
- 50:25Speaker 5: acclaim you had bus nasty coming on for these live streams.
- 50:29Speaker 5: Something happens, somebody gets upset in the in the Canada.
- 50:33Speaker 5: I don't know if you legally can talk about it.
- 50:34Speaker 5: You can maybe bleep out the words or goal. But
- 50:37Speaker 5: how did that come about? And then from there spawned
- 50:41Speaker 5: the starting of Home by three? So take us through
- 50:43Speaker 5: that kind of that timeline and how you go from
- 50:47Speaker 5: Hockey Knight in Scottsdale. I think I had sat with
- 50:49Speaker 5: you at dinner and you were going through the ship
- 50:51Speaker 5: with with the with Hockey Night in Canada, and now
- 50:54Speaker 5: you're doing Home by three and thriving. So just take
- 50:58Speaker 5: us through that.
- 50:58Speaker 9: Yeah, I was last year at the Cup.
- 51:00Speaker 11: I was after game five or six or whatever, Florida one,
- 51:05Speaker 11: and we're sitting there in Fort Lauderdale and like logging
- 51:10Speaker 11: onto YouTube or whatever. Our entire show is shut down,
- 51:13Speaker 11: like what is going on here? Like what's going on?
- 51:16Speaker 11: And like we had a bunch of good sixty nine
- 51:18Speaker 11: or sixty seventy copyright infringements on our all of our
- 51:22Speaker 11: videos that we had put up, Like what is going on?
- 51:24Speaker 11: And then we get an emails from CBC and this
- 51:27Speaker 11: is where I kind of got to dance the line,
- 51:28Speaker 11: but more or less we're like, you know, guys, got
- 51:30Speaker 11: to change your name. They worked with us in good
- 51:32Speaker 11: faith with their lawyers and things like that, but.
- 51:35Speaker 9: Had to change our name.
- 51:37Speaker 11: So we go from Hockey Night in Scottsdale to no
- 51:39Speaker 11: Name for probably four weeks, like we're trying to think,
- 51:43Speaker 11: what is our name gonna be?
- 51:44Speaker 9: What is this show? Eventually?
- 51:46Speaker 11: I think we wanted to get away from Hockey Night's
- 51:48Speaker 11: Scottsdale because it's pretty niche like Home by Three talks
- 51:51Speaker 11: a little bit about hockey, but as you know JD,
- 51:52Speaker 11: it's more of a comedy show.
- 51:54Speaker 9: So it was kind of a blessing.
- 51:55Speaker 11: In disguise where we were able to kind of take
- 51:58Speaker 11: that time, even though you know, we were going through
- 52:00Speaker 11: the mud and different things like that, to really make
- 52:03Speaker 11: it a pause and switch our name. And man, I
- 52:06Speaker 11: would be sitting there just all day thinking like what
- 52:08Speaker 11: is our name? I probably had a thousand names? I
- 52:11Speaker 11: shooted my Bob. We would be sitting down like what
- 52:13Speaker 11: do you think about this? And then it just kind
- 52:15Speaker 11: of came to me and you know, we were like, Wow,
- 52:17Speaker 11: this is it and we actually have it live on
- 52:19Speaker 11: camera because you was recording that day.
- 52:21Speaker 4: I've seen that video.
- 52:22Speaker 5: What was your what was the second closest name where
- 52:24Speaker 5: you were like almost because naming something's the hardest thing.
- 52:27Speaker 4: Yeah, it really is.
- 52:28Speaker 9: It was.
- 52:29Speaker 11: It was the second closest I would say was going
- 52:31Speaker 11: to be pardon my chin, but that was too close, yes,
- 52:35Speaker 11: or excuse my chin, but we felt that was too
- 52:38Speaker 11: close to pardon my take with bart or excuse my
- 52:41Speaker 11: chin kind of had the same amount of like, I
- 52:43Speaker 11: don't know what, I just have thought.
- 52:46Speaker 3: Jaye Leno was involved.
- 52:46Speaker 1: Like I said, Leading with my chin was the title
- 52:48Speaker 1: of his books.
- 52:49Speaker 11: Yes, the oh yeah, talk about it that guy. I
- 52:51Speaker 11: mean you could land a seven forty seven on that chin.
- 52:54Speaker 11: That's a that's a stiff big chin there. That's it
- 52:56Speaker 11: if we're talking chins. But yeah, no, it was, it was.
- 52:59Speaker 11: It was how it worked out Jad was great and
- 53:02Speaker 11: just in terms of, you know, get into home by three,
- 53:06Speaker 11: it was hilarious. I mean, we were negotiating with a
- 53:09Speaker 11: billion dollar company's lawyer. The guy's like, hey, you guys
- 53:13Speaker 11: have any representation.
- 53:14Speaker 5: We're like, but that's to us, that's the impressive thing,
- 53:17Speaker 5: Like you got that doesn't just happen by accident, Like
- 53:21Speaker 5: you were doing such a great job on Hockey Night
- 53:23Speaker 5: in Scottsdale. And I remember when we were sitting at
- 53:26Speaker 5: a bar once, I think it was The Hot Chick,
- 53:27Speaker 5: and you were talking to me about this this idea,
- 53:30Speaker 5: and I was like, yeah, it's great, and I was
- 53:32Speaker 5: the think it was playing my last year. And then
- 53:34Speaker 5: but to get a company, a billion dollar company, to
- 53:36Speaker 5: come to you and be like hey, no, Like usually
- 53:39Speaker 5: they'll just think, yeah, whatever, it's it's their piss ants,
- 53:42Speaker 5: but we don't need to worry about them. But it's
- 53:43Speaker 5: crazy how you have to deal with that. It's just
- 53:46Speaker 5: it's an amazing story. How then it turns into Home
- 53:48Speaker 5: by three, which is a great name.
- 53:50Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 53:50Speaker 11: Yeah, And then the essence of Home by three for
- 53:52Speaker 11: people listening is is go for one, stay for two,
- 53:55Speaker 11: home by three. So that was kind of always the
- 53:57Speaker 11: saying we had, so we just we shortened it up,
- 54:00Speaker 11: we combed through it, and it's just Home by three.
- 54:02Speaker 11: So yeah, it's been a lot of fun, man. I mean,
- 54:04Speaker 11: we're announcing Tuesday our first theater show in Boston at
- 54:07Speaker 11: the Schubert Theater, which is big time. It's gonna be
- 54:09Speaker 11: sixteen hundred seats, so we're gonna have to make a
- 54:11Speaker 11: push for ticket sales. But that's gonna be kind of
- 54:13Speaker 11: like our first like real, we've done comedy clubs, but
- 54:16Speaker 11: that will be really sweet. I've been grinding at that
- 54:18Speaker 11: for a while now. So the theater show, it'll be
- 54:21Speaker 11: October third in Boston.
- 54:23Speaker 7: So be pretty sick now that you're into the comedy
- 54:26Speaker 7: side of it, swish. You know, who are some comedians
- 54:30Speaker 7: that have given you inspiration now that you're on the
- 54:32Speaker 7: side that you guys are doing comedy shows.
- 54:33Speaker 6: There any comedians that you've watched in the past.
- 54:36Speaker 11: Yeah, I mean like old school guys I know growing up.
- 54:39Speaker 11: I love like Roddy Dangerfield. I just think he's just.
- 54:43Speaker 4: A what do you say?
- 54:44Speaker 11: Yeah, one line like clinic, Like he's I think this
- 54:47Speaker 11: place is restricted winning, so don't tell him you a Jewish?
- 54:50Speaker 9: Okay, fine, I think what are you doing? It's a
- 54:55Speaker 9: parking lot. He was one of my favorites.
- 54:58Speaker 11: I would say, Dave Chappelle, Eddie Murphy, Kat Williams, all
- 55:03Speaker 11: those guys I draw really relation tube and then I
- 55:06Speaker 11: would say, like, currently, I love listening to Theo Vaughn.
- 55:09Speaker 9: I just think like he's one of those guys. I
- 55:11Speaker 9: just like you just you just let him go.
- 55:13Speaker 11: He just like runs like way far away from you
- 55:16Speaker 11: and also just throws like a dagger, like a zapper
- 55:18Speaker 11: right back in you. And then I think, and I
- 55:20Speaker 11: think the best one line guy out there right now
- 55:23Speaker 11: is Mark Norman.
- 55:24Speaker 9: I love him.
- 55:24Speaker 4: He's like, yeah, Mark Norman's great dark guy.
- 55:27Speaker 11: He oh he is. But he is surgical, like he
- 55:30Speaker 11: goes in there. It's like open heart surgery for a
- 55:32Speaker 11: tight twenty minutes of one liner after one liner after
- 55:34Speaker 11: one liner. I saw him in New York City like
- 55:37Speaker 11: a month ago when we did our hit piece on
- 55:40Speaker 11: NHL Network. I popped in the night before to go
- 55:42Speaker 11: see Norman at the Comedy Cellar. He was like the
- 55:45Speaker 11: tightest twenty I've ever seen. It was just like bang
- 55:47Speaker 11: bang bang bang, and then he's all right, I'm out
- 55:49Speaker 11: of here, Like holy fuck, that was insane. So I
- 55:52Speaker 11: love listening to him because the way he operates is
- 55:55Speaker 11: is kind of how hockey humor is. I think with
- 55:57Speaker 11: the one liners and being on your toes, Mark Norman
- 56:00Speaker 11: is probably my favorite right now.
- 56:02Speaker 4: I think.
- 56:02Speaker 5: As for a last one, we got tal Pinchevsky's wanted
- 56:05Speaker 5: to ask you a question our our producer.
- 56:07Speaker 4: Yeah, so he'll.
- 56:09Speaker 9: Put me up to this one.
- 56:10Speaker 6: I'm not gonna lie.
- 56:10Speaker 8: I'm not sure exactly what this means, but I said
- 56:13Speaker 8: I go for it.
- 56:14Speaker 10: So all I wanted to know is is this baseball
- 56:17Speaker 10: or is it porn?
- 56:19Speaker 9: Such a good question.
- 56:21Speaker 11: I mean, the crazy thing is there's so much overlap
- 56:24Speaker 11: between baseball and porn, you know what I mean. It's
- 56:26Speaker 11: what is baseball could be porn and what is porn
- 56:30Speaker 11: could be baseball. Like like you're sitting at the bar
- 56:32Speaker 11: right and like some guys just you know, draped over
- 56:36Speaker 11: a girl and he's not getting aggressive, he's getting really handsy,
- 56:39Speaker 11: Like that could be baseball. That could be porn too.
- 56:42Speaker 9: You know what I mean.
- 56:43Speaker 11: Like it's at the end of the day, like you
- 56:45Speaker 11: get to the batter's box and my third base coach
- 56:48Speaker 11: when I coached baseball was I was always looking down
- 56:51Speaker 11: at my guy as a choke and poke and spray
- 56:53Speaker 11: and praise. So they're all baseball. It's all porn, is
- 56:56Speaker 11: the definition I can give you.
- 56:57Speaker 6: There.
- 56:58Speaker 1: There's nothing better than scoring at home, especially this was awesome.
- 57:01Speaker 9: Buddy.
- 57:01Speaker 1: Hopefully well get your back on any cell network soon.
- 57:03Speaker 11: Yeah, no, appreciate I fella thank you for taking the
- 57:05Speaker 11: time for having me love the show.
- 57:14Speaker 1: So in the one fould sixty right now, horror movies
- 57:17Speaker 1: are having a moment I've been having for a couple
- 57:19Speaker 1: of years now. What's happened is that the movies that
- 57:21Speaker 1: get made by Hollywood are either these you know, crazy
- 57:23Speaker 1: huge ten pole movies as they're.
- 57:25Speaker 2: Called, or sequels, or a lot of horror movies.
- 57:27Speaker 1: And the horror movies makes sense because it's a low
- 57:29Speaker 1: budget and then they gross well, so like, great, we
- 57:31Speaker 1: can make this money for six million bucks, it makes
- 57:33Speaker 1: twenty five million dollars. We quadruple our prope. Everybody wins,
- 57:36Speaker 1: and now these movies are even more impressive.
- 57:38Speaker 2: And Obsession is a.
- 57:39Speaker 1: Film from a guy named Curry Barker, and this is
- 57:41Speaker 1: exceptionally rare in movies. The second weekend outgrossed the first weekend,
- 57:46Speaker 1: and approably, the third week really might outgross the second.
- 57:49Speaker 3: This never happened.
- 57:50Speaker 1: I'm telling you, there's like five times in movie history.
- 57:51Speaker 1: There's something about Mary famously did that. It opened, Yeah,
- 57:54Speaker 1: and then the buzz was awesome. Gonna go see some
- 57:56Speaker 1: something right hangover movies like that, comedies. But that's the
- 57:59Speaker 1: kind of word of mouth right now is around this movie.
- 58:01Speaker 1: So my nephew is somebody. You gotta go see it.
- 58:02Speaker 1: Nothing worse than a forty seven year old man watching
- 58:05Speaker 1: the movie is surrounded by a bunch of teenagers in
- 58:06Speaker 1: a Friday afternoon. I'm looking around a bunch of seventeen
- 58:09Speaker 1: eighteen year old girls. I'm like, well, if this doesn't
- 58:11Speaker 1: look creepy, I'm just gonna go eat my milk DUTs. Okay, Okay,
- 58:14Speaker 1: that's fine, I'll just go watch my movie. But it's uh,
- 58:16Speaker 1: it's a move.
- 58:17Speaker 2: But a guy in love with a girl, Okay, that
- 58:18Speaker 2: works for teenagers. So he wishes that she'd be as
- 58:21Speaker 2: obsessed with.
- 58:22Speaker 1: Him as he is with her. And then the lunacy begins,
- 58:25Speaker 1: and it is. It's batshit crazy. There's a couple of
- 58:27Speaker 1: scenes that are unforgettable. I enjoyed it a lot more
- 58:29Speaker 1: than I would. I'm normally not a horror movie a ficionado,
- 58:32Speaker 1: but obsession right now all the rage tell you've heard
- 58:34Speaker 1: the buzz around this movie.
- 58:37Speaker 8: Yeah, this is I mean, it's you know, obviously those
- 58:40Speaker 8: other films you mentioned were pre internet. This is one
- 58:42Speaker 8: that's just all over online, this one in his back rooms.
- 58:46Speaker 4: The other one I think it's four those two movies.
- 58:49Speaker 8: I mean, I'm not a big horror guy, but I
- 58:50Speaker 8: might have to check one of them out because they're
- 58:52Speaker 8: both all over my a'l go.
- 58:54Speaker 1: Nate worre Are you when it comes to horror movies
- 58:55Speaker 1: you're a fan of like sitting up and watching The
- 58:57Speaker 1: Blair Witch Project.
- 58:58Speaker 6: I'm not a horror movie guy. I'm not.
- 59:00Speaker 7: And if I do watch a horror movie, I'm not
- 59:02Speaker 7: watching it by myself.
- 59:03Speaker 6: I'll tell you that an absolute just.
- 59:07Speaker 3: Geter.
- 59:08Speaker 11: Are you?
- 59:08Speaker 3: And Joe gonna watch Obsession.
- 59:10Speaker 5: And they likes to cut onto the covers. That's when
- 59:12Speaker 5: he watches it the opening scenes.
- 59:17Speaker 4: There's no more.
- 59:18Speaker 5: The opening scene is done and he's already got a
- 59:20Speaker 5: hook line and sinker, hey, dirty dog.
- 59:24Speaker 6: No, I hate movies.
- 59:27Speaker 5: I hate the min My mind just goes to what
- 59:32Speaker 5: sick fuck I could think of this?
- 59:36Speaker 4: I'm the just.
- 59:36Speaker 5: Deepest, darkest in his brain and like get some sadistic
- 59:41Speaker 5: pleasure out of it, and then people going to watch
- 59:43Speaker 5: it getting sadistic pleasure out of it.
- 59:45Speaker 4: I never understood it.
- 59:47Speaker 5: I'm like I do seem like a tough and rough,
- 59:50Speaker 5: tumbling guy, but like I love like rom coms.
- 59:53Speaker 4: I love like serendipity and like a big.
- 59:57Speaker 1: I love a nice chick flick kid get shedding a
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: t at A movie would.
- 1:00:02Speaker 6: Have been great. Roommates on the road.
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: Yeah, what are you guys going to see? Thirteen? Going
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: on thirty?
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: Jennifer Garner?
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: Okay, that fun.
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: Back to the Hockey We Go Cassidy's sounding off. Bruce
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: Casty was here as a guest an HLL in scripted.
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: Then we got him the bump to go on TNT
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: after reports that both the Kings and Oilers were denied
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: by Vegas after a questioning an opportunity to interview their
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: former coach, Bruce Casty.
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: Everyone's getting there, say. Castiy went up spitting chick lits.
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: I wish he'd said this an ice shell in scripted,
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: but admitted it's upsetting not getting a chance to interview
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: for other jobs. He told the show, I want to
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: go to work. I'm a hockey coach Vegas yam. Kelly
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: mccrimin respond by saying it's only news because Edmonton leaked it.
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: JD, who saw do you on? Uh? Bruce aside? Let
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: the guy coach, Yeah you fired him.
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: Let me go get a job now.
- 1:00:52Speaker 5: The media tour when you're making five million, I just
- 1:00:54Speaker 5: I just don't understand.
- 1:00:55Speaker 4: I kind of I'm just like kinda I get it.
- 1:00:59Speaker 5: But now I'm like to the point where I'm kind
- 1:01:01Speaker 5: of like okay, like like dude, like it's alright, Like
- 1:01:07Speaker 5: you're a great coach, you're winner, You're going to be back.
- 1:01:12Speaker 5: I'm just like, just go spend the five million, Just
- 1:01:15Speaker 5: blow it all on one big sex rump with your
- 1:01:19Speaker 5: wife or something.
- 1:01:20Speaker 4: I don't know, Like, I don't know. You can understand
- 1:01:23Speaker 4: his frustrating.
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: He was a great player and man to you can't
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: go play like if not, you guys got rid of me?
- 1:01:28Speaker 3: I want to go play.
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: Of course you do.
- 1:01:30Speaker 5: But like I'm also like, yeah, I I don't know.
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: It's like wait till the season starts. I guess yeah,
- 1:01:40Speaker 4: But I.
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: Mean Thompson got released by team that he couldn't go
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: play somewhere else.
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: He goes, this is worship. You guys got rid of me?
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: Go let me play.
- 1:01:46Speaker 4: Yeah, I see both sides of it.
- 1:01:48Speaker 5: I just think that Vegas is being a little tom petty,
- 1:01:51Speaker 5: and I think and I think Bruce is now I
- 1:01:55Speaker 5: think there's a lot more to this than meet Ci right, Yeah,
- 1:01:59Speaker 5: go ahead.
- 1:02:00Speaker 7: Yeah, No, I think there's a lot of I don't know,
- 1:02:02Speaker 7: bylaws or coaching rule or whatever there is that I
- 1:02:06Speaker 7: surely don't know. I could see, like I'm with JD
- 1:02:11Speaker 7: on this, I could see both sides. But I can
- 1:02:12Speaker 7: also see I guess like Vegas, I can see too,
- 1:02:15Speaker 7: because you think about the other coaches that got hired
- 1:02:18Speaker 7: from other teams, like the Board to Dallas.
- 1:02:22Speaker 6: Like they don't want to get burned.
- 1:02:24Speaker 7: They don't want to get you know, like yeah, they
- 1:02:27Speaker 7: don't want that to happen to him, especially with with
- 1:02:29Speaker 7: Bruce Cassiause.
- 1:02:30Speaker 6: He is a good coach. But you know, like like
- 1:02:34Speaker 6: Jad said, how bad can it be? Right now? Really?
- 1:02:37Speaker 4: You know, I'm like, dude, I just want to coach. Dude, Dude,
- 1:02:42Speaker 4: I get it, you do.
- 1:02:43Speaker 5: I apologize for you and it sucks, but like five bananas,
- 1:02:47Speaker 5: I mean, I'm I'm I'm scrounging for five hundred and
- 1:02:50Speaker 5: fifty bucks here.
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: There's an excellent point when you bring up our Now
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: you know.
- 1:02:56Speaker 4: I'm not that guy.
- 1:02:56Speaker 5: I hate being that guy, but like I'm also just
- 1:02:59Speaker 5: like I'm like, dude, just take a breath, like let
- 1:03:01Speaker 5: the finals finish. Yeah, and like you're like mid finals
- 1:03:05Speaker 5: when you're the team you're coaching is in the finals,
- 1:03:07Speaker 5: Like I don't know if you're you're a good coach.
- 1:03:09Speaker 4: Like it's they just peaked at the right time.
- 1:03:12Speaker 5: I'm like a nutless monkey could have done what John
- 1:03:15Speaker 5: Tortorella did.
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: Man just like wow, wow, five fifty you guys gotta
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: get it raised.
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: Okay, double AHF change, what do you make.
- 1:03:24Speaker 4: Cheap?
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: I know you're a side deal and I wish potentially
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: massive news last week the International Ice Hockey Federation announcing
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: it is reversed it's been on Russian participation in its events.
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: Will decide the Russian involvement on an event by event basis. Yes,
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: gend you played in Russia. How about Russia joined the
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: World Cup in twenty twenty eight. That's an NHL NHLPA event,
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: not a DOUBLEHF event. But should the NHL follow their lead,
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: Let's let Russia back in for play international hockey.
- 1:03:51Speaker 5: I mean, I think ninety nine percent of the guys
- 1:03:53Speaker 5: that play in Team Russia live in the States, right
- 1:03:56Speaker 5: or Canada, So it's kind of just like, I don't know,
- 1:03:59Speaker 5: I think punishing players that have no government tie too.
- 1:04:05Speaker 4: If we're talking anyway, I can't. I gotta be careful
- 1:04:08Speaker 4: with this one.
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: What do you mean the Russian government's listenings go ahead.
- 1:04:11Speaker 5: No, I'm trying to get my green card. So I'm good, No,
- 1:04:13Speaker 5: actually know what whatever the US sides, I'm I'm good with.
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: It, incredibly pass the side, just cow telling themistration let
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: me get my green card and then we're gonna let
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: them off and then.
- 1:04:26Speaker 6: Okay, and then we'll deep do a deep dive after.
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: Fair point, Nate, do you want to see Russia playing
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: in the World Cup?
- 1:04:32Speaker 6: I do? I do? I do.
- 1:04:34Speaker 7: I think now you're gonna get the true best on
- 1:04:38Speaker 7: best having having them, and then I mean, can you
- 1:04:40Speaker 7: imagine with their goaltending and their forwards, And I think
- 1:04:45Speaker 7: this is really what we want to see having them
- 1:04:48Speaker 7: in all the international play.
- 1:04:50Speaker 6: I think that it's only good for the game.
- 1:04:53Speaker 7: And uh, it's gonna make things a little bit harder
- 1:04:55Speaker 7: for Team Canada now.
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: No question about it, all right. Regrettably have to hand
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: some flowers to Norway. A huge bone for the Norwegian
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: national team. On Sunday, Noah Stein's overtime winner over Canada
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: bronze medal game. Norwegian's their first ever medal in a
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: top level tournament. They came to the tournament just one
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: player who played in the NHL this year, Michael Branstick
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: Nygard played fourteen games in Detroit, pulling off a huge
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: upset over a stacked Canada team. Finland won gold while
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: Switzerland was shut out in the gold medal game for
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: the third straight year. It's a bronze medal game, a
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: bigger win for Norway or a bigger disappointment for Canada.
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: I'll answer that towel. It's the ladder Canada without a medal.
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: We had Sydney Crosby there kidding, this is awful, towel.
- 1:05:38Speaker 8: I decided, yeah, I'm gonna. I wasn't sure if you
- 1:05:41Speaker 8: were thrown to me there. I mean, it's it's not good.
- 1:05:43Speaker 8: I think some people, especially when Canada loses, people say, ah,
- 1:05:47Speaker 8: it's not that big a tournament.
- 1:05:48Speaker 6: They don't have their best players.
- 1:05:49Speaker 8: You know what, the team that roster was really strong,
- 1:05:53Speaker 8: and it was last.
- 1:05:54Speaker 4: Year and they didn't do that much of the tournament.
- 1:05:55Speaker 8: So I hate to get into this whole state of
- 1:05:58Speaker 8: hockey thing in Canada and how we need some sort
- 1:06:00Speaker 8: of referendum on where.
- 1:06:01Speaker 6: We go from here.
- 1:06:02Speaker 4: But it's not a great look. Not a great look
- 1:06:04Speaker 4: losing in.
- 1:06:04Speaker 6: Norway at the World Championships. But good congratulations in Norway.
- 1:06:07Speaker 6: Good for that.
- 1:06:10Speaker 9: That's pretty brutal.
- 1:06:11Speaker 5: It's been it's been tough. It's been tough for Team Canada.
- 1:06:14Speaker 5: It really has been.
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: Uh.
- 1:06:16Speaker 5: I mean, I would say it's bigger for Norway. I mean,
- 1:06:18Speaker 5: first metal, I mean that country incredible. Not to like
- 1:06:23Speaker 5: discount how much this sucks for Canada, but like credit
- 1:06:27Speaker 5: to Norway. Man like hung in that tournament and you
- 1:06:31Speaker 5: go in Pete, Canada, you win a bronze medal. I mean,
- 1:06:34Speaker 5: it's it's it's it's absolutely amazing. But you know, Canada
- 1:06:39Speaker 5: was also without Norris Trophy winning defenseman of Bouchard. So
- 1:06:43Speaker 5: he said, well not actually he like he got knocked
- 1:06:46Speaker 5: out and to change old tournament for them, they would
- 1:06:49Speaker 5: have won, they would have they would have walked it in.
- 1:06:51Speaker 5: But but it has been easy Evan Buchard Norris Trophy. No,
- 1:06:56Speaker 5: I yeah, it's it's it sucks. I'm ore going to
- 1:07:00Speaker 5: talk about just quickly, the fact that Sasha bar Cough
- 1:07:05Speaker 5: just the whole year and then goes and wins the
- 1:07:07Speaker 5: World Championships he's so good. Florida Panthers are back in
- 1:07:10Speaker 5: the finals next you.
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: Would predicted he'd be back for the Panthers.
- 1:07:13Speaker 5: I said they're back in the I did, but one
- 1:07:16Speaker 5: series out of the playoffs.
- 1:07:18Speaker 4: I mean, listen, I'm wrong a lot. I say a lot, But.
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: Even throughout the plus you know he's still coming back,
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: no matter.
- 1:07:23Speaker 4: I'm right a lot, but I'm wrong a lot too.
- 1:07:26Speaker 4: It's like fifty to fifty.
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: Talking because I clarify, I go throughout the plus plus,
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: you'll still play, no doubt he's playing.
- 1:07:31Speaker 5: I go okay, But to be honest, like he could
- 1:07:36Speaker 5: have played before, played World champions. Maybe, So I just saying,
- 1:07:39Speaker 5: so I was right, I'll move the line.
- 1:07:42Speaker 4: So I was right. I like it, But I mean,
- 1:07:46Speaker 4: Florida's back in the finals next year.
- 1:07:48Speaker 3: No, God, here we go, all right, Hurricanes, enjoy while
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: you can not.
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: We gotta hand flowers to Samuel Riley, a quick bouquet
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: of the Tampa Bay Lightning prospect, and Kitchen, a Ranger
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: star who just became the fourth player ever to win
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: Ontario Hockey League regular season m v P, Playoff m
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: v P and Memorial Cup MVP.
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: The other three Brad Richards, Corey Perry.
- 1:08:09Speaker 3: And Mitch Marner. That is unbelievable.
- 1:08:11Speaker 4: Sam o'reiley just did all right.
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: Prediction time Nate Thompson, who wins the Stanley Cup Final
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: and then how many games?
- 1:08:17Speaker 7: I'm not picking against him this time. I'm taking the
- 1:08:20Speaker 7: Carolina Hurricanes in seven games.
- 1:08:22Speaker 6: They they're gonna do it. This is the year.
- 1:08:25Speaker 7: I'm not doing it. I'm not going against him. I
- 1:08:27Speaker 7: went against him every single gets way too many times.
- 1:08:31Speaker 6: Not this year. Not this year.
- 1:08:36Speaker 5: I think the Decorps will prove to be too much
- 1:08:40Speaker 5: in the end, and I think they will stifle him
- 1:08:42Speaker 5: just enough. And I think Freddie Anderson, yes, well does
- 1:08:45Speaker 5: it for his former agent called them you and they
- 1:08:50Speaker 5: kind of like galvanize around him as a team winning
- 1:08:54Speaker 5: for him.
- 1:08:55Speaker 4: Really sad.
- 1:08:56Speaker 5: But I just think I think it's Carolina's time.
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: Think Vegas and seven.
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: As Mitch Marner sticks it to the Leafs and wins
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: the con smythe playoff playoff, Mitchie takes it to him
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: Vegas and seven.
- 1:09:07Speaker 3: It's gonna be great for leaf haters.
- 1:09:08Speaker 4: Go ahead, and not just leaf haters.
- 1:09:12Speaker 5: If we lest we forget Mitchell Marner, veto to trade
- 1:09:16Speaker 5: to Carolina that's rights, and the players do not forget
- 1:09:23Speaker 5: because the players, the guys were pissed at that I
- 1:09:25Speaker 5: heard in that room.
- 1:09:27Speaker 4: So what do you got?
- 1:09:30Speaker 8: Vegas and seven but gonna be a fantastic It'll be fun.
- 1:09:33Speaker 8: I know that not everyone's thrilled to see Carolina Vegas
- 1:09:35Speaker 8: as a matchup, but it's gonna be a great series.
- 1:09:37Speaker 4: And I'm taking Vegas and seven.
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: I like it.
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: Team tal Let's go Vegas and seven of this. Thanks
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: so much for checking out a script again. We're Mondays
