- 0:22SPEAKER_00: If you spend enough time around fiction authors, you'll eventually hear two terms, pantzers and plotters.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: Panthers prefer to write by the seat of their pants, hence why they're called pantzers.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: They develop a great opening and then they discover the story as they write.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: Panthers get bored if they know where the whole story is going ahead of time.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: Now, by contrast, plotters like to carefully outline the story before they begin writing.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: They need to know where the story is going or they can't start.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: Both approaches can work just fine for fiction, but plotting doesn't work so well when it comes to your real life journey as a writer.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: I mean, let's be honest, the writing life is pretty unpredictable.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: You don't know where it's going to go.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: Every piece of writing you produce is a new opportunity to reach people.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: Not only that, but your skill grows every time you publish.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: And when you combine all that with the constant changes in technology today, there's really no way to predict where it's all going to go.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: In essence, you can't plot out your life.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: There's no need to figure out everything ahead of time.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: Just do the work every day and enjoy the journey.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: Because if you knew where the ending was going ahead of time, now that wouldn't be any fun, would it?
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: Here's today's challenge.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: If somebody could magically tell you how your own story ends, would you listen, or would you rather it be a surprise?
