- 0:26four o'clock Saturday four o'clock and tickets available at the Excel Center box office or
- 0:31the website yukontickets dot com. Question for a listener, This is from Kevin.
- 0:37Do you ever speak with the coaching staff about the implications of the last
- 0:41couple of weekends as far as the pair wisest concerned or do you worry about
- 0:44that this early? That's a good question. You know, I'd be lying
- 0:50if I said that you don't think about it. But you really can't get
- 0:55paralyzed by that stuff right now. You just really have to focus on your
- 1:00next game, because you know, I've seen teams that have great league records
- 1:07and their pair wise is good you know, and there might be five hundred
- 1:11and non league. So I think it's really focused right now just on stay
- 1:19in the course and just you know, winning your next game. Thinks I
- 1:23don't know if we can win all our games, but I expect to win
- 1:25the next one, right right, That's that's the old saying. So that's
- 1:29the where we go. But I understand the question, And you'd be crazy
- 1:33if you didn't think that because we play so few games. In thirty four
- 1:38games that you know, last year, if we had beat we had leads
- 1:42against Northeastern and Quinnipiac at home or in the you know, not Quinnipiac was
- 1:48on the road, but Northeastern at home. If we win those two games,
- 1:51we're in the national tournament. Like that's how tight it can be.
- 1:55So yes and no, we're more focused on if you win your league,
- 1:59it's probably good chance you're going to go. Yes tournament for sure. Defensively,
- 2:02with the fact that you have such a veteran group and then you add
- 2:06one one of the new guys was Saturday their best game so far of the
- 2:09six games. Even though it's a group that's all been together and play the
- 2:14season, you still have to kind of get back in the flow regardless.
- 2:16But does it seem like Saturday may have been the best performance from that group
- 2:21so far? I think they played pretty well. I do. I don't
- 2:23know if it was their best game. They played really well at at home
- 2:28against holy Cross too. I mean, we gave up one goal and that
- 2:30was really a turnover by a forward. It wasn't really a defensive rescue,
- 2:36right, So no, I think they've been playing really well. How have
- 2:42you? We're going to talk to Thomasineo a little later on where you've seen
- 2:45him. Where's you seeing his game grow from freshman sophomore year? So he
- 2:49seems he seems a lot more confident with the puck, that's for sure.
- 2:52I think last year he was really focused on defending and being hard on our
- 2:55zone and just making a good breakout pass, which is great. But now,
- 3:01excuse me, he's really kind of jumping into the offense and he's getting
- 3:07more pucks to the net in our offensive zone, and we need him to
- 3:10do that. He needs to cycle down and pinch when it's available for him
- 3:14because he skates so well and he can get on the opponent really quick and
- 3:20make it hard for them to get out of their own zone of your defenseman
- 3:23who seems to find the net the best as far as you know through traffic.
- 3:27Yeah, I mean we know Spetsy has a bomb of a slap shot,
- 3:30he does. You know, they're all working on it. I think
- 3:35they're all good in different areas. I've been really surprised just because i haven't
- 3:39had him. But Owen Simpson's got pretty good knack for getting pucks down to
- 3:43the net. But you know, Lucas can get him down. Harrison Reese
- 3:46got one down the other night, which was big for us. Jake Flynn,
- 3:50you know, he does a good job of popping in and finding the
- 3:53hole in the defense and getting a shot to the net. As you alluded
- 3:58to Spetsy, they're all at it. Obviously you could get better at it.
- 4:02I'm not sure we have an Adam Fox back there, but there's not
- 4:06many Adam Fox's playing in college hockey either. But they're all pretty decent,
- 4:11and you know, this room for improvement as well as far as defense been
- 4:16jumping up in the play. It's a confidence thing, right to jump up
- 4:19in the play and try to create from defense to offense. I mean,
- 4:25yeah, we I think it has to be coached and encouraged for sure,
- 4:30and we do encourage them to do that, but some of it's also a
- 4:33feel, you know, it's not necessarily you know, one of the best
- 4:38kids I ever coached at it was Tommy Cross and it wasn't like he was
- 4:42a you know, speedster on defense. He skated pretty well, but he
- 4:48just had a great feel of when to jump into the play. And even
- 4:53like here, Derek Pratt, I thought had a good feel for us when
- 4:56he was here. He wasn't the fastest skater, but had a good feel
- 4:59for to jump into the play. And a lot of that's just reading the
- 5:01situation and knowing you can go. Speaking of some of your alums here,
- 5:05have you heard from any recently? How's Wyatt doing with the Wings? I
- 5:10haven't talked to Wyatt recently, but I did. Max Latunov and I were
- 5:14trading text messages today. He's second on his team in the KHL and scoring
- 5:18and Flads on that team and Adam Husker, and Adam has a goals against
- 5:24under two right now. First off, Yeah, wow, Flad first off
- 5:28is there and he's playing pretty well. But Adam Husk is a goaltender on
- 5:31the team in the khl Okay. What about Yakham? Is he still in
- 5:35the national organ No, Yakham went back to Cech. He's playing in the
- 5:41Czech Pro League. But I did see that Ruslan is leading Bridgeport in the
- 5:46American Hockey League and the saying he could be one of the next call ups
- 5:48for the Islanders. Oh nice, Yeah, wolf packer off to a good
- 5:51start. Bruins are five and oh how about that? I know? How
- 5:55about that? I mean, I know you're following your own team, but
- 5:58you keep an eye on him a little bit. Yeah, I do.
- 6:00I was actually watching some of that Bruins game last night. It started at
- 6:02eight thirty Anaheim, and I know Greg Cronin pretty well, the Anaheim head
- 6:09coach. I'd known him from way back. He went to Colby actually,
- 6:12and I went to school with his cousin, so I was happy for him.
- 6:15He got his first pro job when he was sixty years old, so
- 6:17it was kind of neat last question before we break, what's a Sunday like
- 6:21for a college hockey coach. You get a chance to relax a little bit.
- 6:25Are you looking at a lot of video yesterday? I did. Yeah,
- 6:30I relaxed a little bit. And took my daughter to lacrosse. You
- 6:33mean you were actually a dad yesterday? Made dinner? Yeah, what'd you
- 6:38make? We made? We had meatballs last night, Spaghetti meatballs, red
- 6:42sauce, some sausage in there. Nice. And then yeah, I watched
- 6:47some of the football games and I did watch some video last night. I
- 6:51did actually break out the laptop and just kind of glance at Lowell a little
- 6:56bit. There you go while the football was on. Yes, they're always
- 6:59a pain to play. We'll get into that later. But up next we'll
- 7:01hear from Ryan Maschi, who is one of the two grad transfers on the
- 7:04Huskies this year, from RPI as The Yukon Hockey Coaches Show continues live from
- 7:09Bear Smokehouse Barbecue on Learfield
