- 0:07Speaker 1: This podcast.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome to Meet Eater Trivia, the only game show where
- 0:12Speaker 2: conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer new Arth, and
- 0:16Speaker 2: today we're joined by Jannis Randall, Alec Cad, Eric Reva,
- 0:20Speaker 2: Max and Nate. This is a ten round quiz show
- 0:23Speaker 2: with questions from Meat Eater's four verticals, which are hunting, fishing,
- 0:26Speaker 2: conservation and cooking. There is a prize. Meat Eater will
- 0:29Speaker 2: donate five hundred dollars to the conservation organization of the
- 0:33Speaker 2: winner's choosing. We've got a mailbag question here from Leonard
- 0:37Speaker 2: and Lizzie van Arden. My family and I are moving
- 0:41Speaker 2: from Australia to Alberta in twenty twenty six. I'm excited
- 0:45Speaker 2: to get into hunting and fishing that Canada has to offer,
- 0:48Speaker 2: but I'm leaving behind a lifetime of outdoor knowledge that's
- 0:51Speaker 2: specific to a different continent. I'm a big reader. Could
- 0:54Speaker 2: you recommend any books to shorten the learning curve for
- 0:58Speaker 2: someone new to the region's outdoors? All right, what recommendations
- 1:02Speaker 2: do we have for Leonard and Lizzie. It's not much
- 1:05Speaker 2: of a read.
- 1:05Speaker 3: It's more of like a informational guide, but it's almost
- 1:10Speaker 3: like a pamphlet.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Or brochure.
- 1:12Speaker 3: But there's this book called Ducks at a Distance and
- 1:16Speaker 3: it teaches you all about the different species of divers, dabblers,
- 1:21Speaker 3: just all the different ducks, and it gives you the
- 1:23Speaker 3: explanations of a hen and a drake, the different colors,
- 1:27Speaker 3: the different plumages.
- 1:28Speaker 4: They're coming from Australia.
- 1:29Speaker 5: Think they're really interested in Alberta.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Yeah, that's where like Australia tomorrow. What would he be interested?
- 1:39Speaker 3: Don't the Perry poddles go up into Alberta and then
- 1:41Speaker 3: like a lot of ducks are made in Alberta.
- 1:42Speaker 6: A lot of ducks come through Alberta.
- 1:44Speaker 4: And I'm just poking fun.
- 1:45Speaker 6: They're going to see a lot of ducks.
- 1:47Speaker 2: So that's my recommendation, good recommend du What other recommendations
- 1:51Speaker 2: do we have for Leonard and Lizzy for learning albert.
- 1:54Speaker 5: The obvious would be meat eaters, you know, guid Oh
- 1:57Speaker 5: that's a great idea hunting, but cooking.
- 2:01Speaker 2: The survival book that would work as well.
- 2:03Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:04Speaker 2: I feel like a lot of that is specific to
- 2:06Speaker 2: North America.
- 2:07Speaker 4: I only it should be too stressed out.
- 2:09Speaker 2: I mean a whole nother.
- 2:11Speaker 5: Con Well, the animals, it's not like they smell differently,
- 2:16Speaker 5: as in, like it's not like they smell you from
- 2:18Speaker 5: upwind or you know, vice versa.
- 2:20Speaker 7: It's like the toilets that go the opposite direct.
- 2:22Speaker 6: But there's different things that Alberta has.
- 2:24Speaker 4: They still need.
- 2:25Speaker 8: Tracks North American Tree Squirrel phenomenal book.
- 2:28Speaker 2: That's a book.
- 2:29Speaker 9: Yeah, it's so good. What's to teach you all about squirrels?
- 2:32Speaker 9: All right, it's a little book. Have you read it?
- 2:35Speaker 8: Yeah, dude, you I've got you know. Here's a hot
- 2:37Speaker 8: tip next time I host trivia. There's a question coming
- 2:40Speaker 8: straight out of that book.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Other recommendations for Leonard and Lizzie.
- 2:47Speaker 10: I'll be honest, I didn't pick up on the fact
- 2:48Speaker 10: that they're asking for books until just a moment ago.
- 2:51Speaker 10: So I was going to say the Internet, it's good, magazines.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Yeah, I'd go to the library.
- 2:58Speaker 10: If they really want a book, I'd go to the
- 3:00Speaker 10: library and get like old bound volumes of like whatever.
- 3:04Speaker 1: The best Canadian hunting.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Do they have libraries in Canada?
- 3:07Speaker 1: I think so, yeah. I'm sure they're well funded.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Actually probably better than ours.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:13Speaker 2: On that note, like, I think there's some apps that
- 3:15Speaker 2: would be really helpful. The Merlin app that works in Canada,
- 3:18Speaker 2: they're gonna certainly encounter a lot of birds they've never
- 3:20Speaker 2: seen before. All trails that works in Canada on X
- 3:24Speaker 2: they're new to Canada. Picture this plan identifier. That's something
- 3:29Speaker 2: where you take a picture of a plant and then
- 3:30Speaker 2: it tells you what it is. I use that in
- 3:32Speaker 2: my yard to check its accuracy on things that I
- 3:35Speaker 2: know what they are, that I planted them, and it's
- 3:37Speaker 2: been one hundred percent accurate for me. Those are all
- 3:39Speaker 2: things that I would have if I was going to
- 3:41Speaker 2: a new continent.
- 3:42Speaker 10: You guys are all thinking very like micro I was
- 3:47Speaker 10: thinking about, like if you read these, like if I
- 3:49Speaker 10: were to move to another country, continent, continent, my god,
- 3:55Speaker 10: I'd want to like be converse Like imagine if someone
- 3:57Speaker 10: moved here and they didn't know, like if you talked
- 4:00Speaker 10: about like the Missouri River country or the bad Lands,
- 4:03Speaker 10: Like I'd want to just familiarize myself with, Like what
- 4:08Speaker 10: are the regional conversations among sportsmen about these places.
- 4:11Speaker 2: There's a book I read last year. It's called Rivers
- 4:13Speaker 2: Run through Us, and it focused on what the author
- 4:16Speaker 2: deemed to be the ten most important rivers in North America.
- 4:19Speaker 2: I think four or five of them are in Canada.
- 4:22Speaker 2: I'd be a great way to just to like learn
- 4:23Speaker 2: some basic North American waterway geography and then they learn
- 4:27Speaker 2: about their natural.
- 4:27Speaker 1: And human history.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Any other recommendations for North America.
- 4:32Speaker 5: I mean, if he's like really wants to dive in
- 4:34Speaker 5: deep and nitty gritty, but that I only reference that one.
- 4:38Speaker 5: I've never even tried to just start on page one.
- 4:40Speaker 2: That's the one that's supposed to be very, very long, all.
- 4:42Speaker 10: Right, Yeah, yeah, I mean there's the book the Eastman's
- 4:46Speaker 10: books on like hunting open country deer and then hunting
- 4:50Speaker 10: high country meal deer.
- 4:52Speaker 2: What about the Grace Sporting Journal too.
- 4:54Speaker 1: You get to get a subscription for that. Oh yeah.
- 4:57Speaker 2: The Age of Deer would be another one that that
- 4:59Speaker 2: covers the like the weird relationship that humans have with
- 5:02Speaker 2: deer in North America. How we treat them like pest
- 5:05Speaker 2: but also like icons. We kill them with guns and vehicles,
- 5:09Speaker 2: but we protect them. It's like weird, how we love
- 5:11Speaker 2: them and hate them and live beside them. I think
- 5:13Speaker 2: that would be good for someone new to the continent.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Any any last recommendations for Leonard and Lizzie.
- 5:18Speaker 6: No recommendation, but just good luck, good luck.
- 5:20Speaker 1: With the move Welcome to North America.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Well, that's fun, that's nice. Welcome to the continent.
- 5:26Speaker 4: All right.
- 5:27Speaker 2: We have some housekeeping. On a previous episode, I had
- 5:29Speaker 2: a question about the eight letter word that's defined as
- 5:31Speaker 2: the period of time, now not that one period of
- 5:36Speaker 2: time before sunrise and after sunset in which the atmosphere
- 5:40Speaker 2: is partially illuminated. The correct answer was twilight, but four
- 5:44Speaker 2: listeners wrote in saying there is a second acceptable answer,
- 5:48Speaker 2: which is the Scottish word gloaming. Gloaming's definition is just
- 5:52Speaker 2: the word twilight, and it also has eight letters. So
- 5:55Speaker 2: if you said gloaming for that one, give yourself a point.
- 5:59Speaker 2: A Scottish word, Scottish word. Has anyone ever heard of gloaming?
- 6:03Speaker 7: I have only because there's a radio a weird radiohead
- 6:05Speaker 7: song on Hail to the Thief called the Gloaming that.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Oh yeah, Well, now you can sound really educated, and
- 6:10Speaker 2: while your dumb buddies are saying twilight, you say gloaming.
- 6:13Speaker 2: That's right, thank you, Spencer, trump them all right. The
- 6:16Speaker 2: Shelby indexport today is a three and a half, so
- 6:19Speaker 2: our winner should get seven correct answers. With that, we're
- 6:22Speaker 2: onto the game of trivia. Play the drop fill.
- 6:27Speaker 11: Look, I need to know what I stand to win everything?
- 6:33Speaker 4: Nice game on sus.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Question one, the topic is wildlife. This will be multiple
- 6:46Speaker 2: choice and this first great question is via Titus McEntee.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Which of these countries does not have bears? Is it
- 6:55Speaker 2: New Zealand, Iraq, Japan? We'reland. Three of those countries have bears,
- 7:06Speaker 2: one of them does not. Is it New Zealand, Iraq, Japan, Thailand?
- 7:14Speaker 2: Titus one of the goats of sending me trivia questions.
- 7:18Speaker 2: We'd appreciate seeing an email from Titus.
- 7:20Speaker 4: Which were talking wild bears like you wouldn't be like Iraq.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Yeah, if they had a tiger king over there for bears,
- 7:30Speaker 2: that would not count. Which of these countries does not
- 7:34Speaker 2: have bears? New Zealand, Iraq, Japan, Thailand. Is anybody confident?
- 7:43Speaker 2: Cade knows it? He says, Is everybody ready?
- 7:47Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 7:48Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers. Maximus says New Zealand,
- 7:53Speaker 2: Randall New Zealand, Eric Thailand caid New Zealand, Alec Iraq,
- 8:00Speaker 2: Nate crossed out Thailand with New Zealand, Riva and Yanni
- 8:04Speaker 2: say New Zealand. The correct answer is New Zealand. Well,
- 8:11Speaker 2: Iraq is home to brown bears, Japan is home to
- 8:14Speaker 2: brown bears and black bears, and Thailand is home to
- 8:17Speaker 2: black bears and sun bears. No bears are native to
- 8:20Speaker 2: New Zealand and none have been introduced. They're only native
- 8:23Speaker 2: mammals are bats and marine mammals. Cool Question two. The
- 8:28Speaker 2: topic is conservation on the IUCN Red List scale that
- 8:34Speaker 2: measures and animals risk for extinction. N T stands for
- 8:39Speaker 2: near blank on the IUCN Red List scale that measures
- 8:48Speaker 2: an animals risk for extinction, and T stands for near blank. Phil,
- 8:57Speaker 2: I heard you went to karaoke last night. What do
- 8:59Speaker 2: you sing?
- 9:01Speaker 7: I sang the Goldfinger cover of ninety nine Red Balloons.
- 9:06Speaker 2: It's a lot of fun gold Finger covered, so the original.
- 9:11Speaker 7: I believe the original artist is Nina. It's like a
- 9:14Speaker 7: It was a German song and then Goldfinger, the pop
- 9:16Speaker 7: punk ska band, has a rip and cover of it.
- 9:21Speaker 5: Do you ever listen the first I was introduced to
- 9:23Speaker 5: that song by the seven seconds?
- 9:25Speaker 4: Do you remember that? No punk band?
- 9:27Speaker 1: No?
- 9:28Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 9:29Speaker 2: Randall the fogie over here trying to figure out how
- 9:31Speaker 2: to play video on his phone. What's the problem, rand
- 9:34Speaker 2: I don't know what?
- 9:35Speaker 1: Can't figure it? Out either connect.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Randall apparently has a video of the film No Red Balloons. Yeah,
- 9:47Speaker 2: oh right, Yeah, there's a German German Verse, very good,
- 9:58Speaker 2: aggressive kind of film. I've never improves you with that
- 10:01Speaker 2: kind of attitude.
- 10:06Speaker 7: Got me inspired. I got a b h A membership
- 10:08Speaker 7: and went straight to the karaoke.
- 10:10Speaker 10: It was pretty Uh, it was like a pretty sparsely
- 10:14Speaker 10: attended karaoke, but everybody's really into it, and phil By.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Far energized the crowd good. Yeah, more than anyone.
- 10:23Speaker 2: They needed it.
- 10:25Speaker 1: I felt like a star just sitting at the same
- 10:27Speaker 1: table as him.
- 10:29Speaker 2: I U c N Red list scale that measures an
- 10:32Speaker 2: animal's risk for extinction, and T stands forward near like,
- 10:38Speaker 2: is everybody ready? I got a T word, Go ahead
- 10:40Speaker 2: and reveal your answers. Maximus says termination, Randall threatened, Eric terminal,
- 10:48Speaker 2: Okay threatened, Alec termination, Nate threatened, Riva threatened, Yannis threatened.
- 10:56Speaker 2: The correct answer is threatened.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Kids a perfect game right now?
- 11:02Speaker 2: Hell yeah, kid, just like the termination. Though on that scale,
- 11:07Speaker 2: near threatened falls between LC Least concern and VU vulnerable.
- 11:13Speaker 2: They say near threatened animals are either close to qualifying
- 11:16Speaker 2: for vulnerable status or are predicted to in the near future.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Some species that they label as near threatened include the
- 11:23Speaker 2: Greater Prairie chicken, tiger shark, Atlantic salmon, Pacific bluefin tuna,
- 11:28Speaker 2: HeLa monster, spotted owl, and eastern hemlock. Phil has a
- 11:32Speaker 2: picture for us of that scale and where different critters
- 11:36Speaker 2: would fall nty near threatened termination sounds a lot cooler.
- 11:41Speaker 2: I like that one. That'd be a lot more that
- 11:43Speaker 2: they're being worse shape though.
- 11:47Speaker 4: There aren't many of you left.
- 11:48Speaker 2: So m do you think near terminated would come above
- 11:53Speaker 2: or below critically endangered?
- 11:56Speaker 9: Probably above.
- 11:58Speaker 8: At least.
- 12:00Speaker 2: That's good. Question three, the topic is hunting. Bovid is
- 12:04Speaker 2: to bison and cannid is to wolves as blank is
- 12:09Speaker 2: too dear.
- 12:12Speaker 1: You should do way more analogies.
- 12:14Speaker 8: This is a good one. I like that, Nate, but
- 12:16Speaker 8: we feel like I'm back in the sas.
- 12:17Speaker 2: To bison and cannid is to wolves as blank.
- 12:23Speaker 1: Is too dear.
- 12:24Speaker 3: Since Brodie isn't here, you check my.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Okay.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Max has checked his work with Randall, and Randall agrees
- 12:32Speaker 2: Nate liked this question, but he's walk answer. Phil, did
- 12:37Speaker 2: you sing last night?
- 12:38Speaker 4: That's it? One and done?
- 12:39Speaker 2: Okay?
- 12:40Speaker 7: Yeah, it was, you know it was it was a
- 12:42Speaker 7: school night, so I had to get home a reasonable hour.
- 12:45Speaker 2: Bovid is to bison and Canid is to wolves, as you.
- 12:50Speaker 5: Must have heard it on one of the many podcasts
- 12:53Speaker 5: that you engineered.
- 12:56Speaker 9: Come on, Nate, dude, I got fai.
- 12:59Speaker 1: What's the What is it for squirrels?
- 13:03Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 13:05Speaker 9: I thought that was a good book that I've read
- 13:09Speaker 9: in a couple of years.
- 13:10Speaker 2: I wonder what it is for squirrel store boys?
- 13:12Speaker 4: How you do?
- 13:12Speaker 2: An? You think you got this one?
- 13:14Speaker 9: Thank so.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Confidence. Bovid is to bison and can it is to
- 13:20Speaker 2: wolves as this is too, dear.
- 13:25Speaker 4: That's what I have written down.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Yeah. Reva walked in here with not a lot of confidence,
- 13:35Speaker 2: and I told her she's going to get fifth place today,
- 13:37Speaker 2: so she was trying to identify the three people that
- 13:40Speaker 2: she needs to beat. You have I do know this good?
- 13:46Speaker 2: It's everybody ready, Go ahead and reveal your answers. Maximus
- 13:52Speaker 2: and Randall say Servid Eric without an answer, Kaide, Servid,
- 13:57Speaker 2: Alec Servid, Nate, Servi, Reva and Yanni servid. They got it.
- 14:02Speaker 2: The correct answer is servid ceer v I d I.
- 14:07Speaker 8: Where does that fall into the whole hierarchy? Ungulate got
- 14:12Speaker 8: more or less specific?
- 14:14Speaker 2: Uh, I don't, I don't know, I don't think real.
- 14:17Speaker 9: Oh really, that's.
- 14:19Speaker 2: The servid family is divided into two main subfamilies, which
- 14:24Speaker 2: are known as Old World deer and New World deer.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Old World deer include elk, red deer and fallow deer,
- 14:30Speaker 2: while New World deer include white tails, moose, and caribou.
- 14:34Speaker 2: The numbers vary based on sources, but it's generally stated
- 14:37Speaker 2: that there are between thirty nine and fifty five species
- 14:41Speaker 2: of servid. Cool question for the topic is fishing. This
- 14:45Speaker 2: is our question of the week, which was won by
- 14:48Speaker 2: Jonathan Lambert for sending this great question. Jonathan is going
- 14:52Speaker 2: to get a board game signed by the crew. If
- 14:53Speaker 2: you want a chance to win the listener Question of
- 14:55Speaker 2: the Week, then send your question to Trivia at the
- 14:57Speaker 2: meadeater dot com. The the Shenandoah River flows into the
- 15:02Speaker 2: Blank River at the border of Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia.
- 15:08Speaker 8: Gosh, there's a song right in my backyard.
- 15:11Speaker 9: I don't know if I have it right.
- 15:12Speaker 2: The backyard of Ohio flows into the Blank River at
- 15:19Speaker 2: the border of Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia.
- 15:27Speaker 6: How do you spell it m.
- 15:31Speaker 2: It was a hint for Maximus. They're struggling with what letters.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Or is it a.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Nate. You're very confident you have this one right. No,
- 15:44Speaker 2: I oh, I'm not.
- 15:47Speaker 9: I have to I have I think I've got it
- 15:49Speaker 9: down to two rivers.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Randa, do you have this one now?
- 15:53Speaker 1: I'm rethinking my answer.
- 15:55Speaker 2: The Shenandoah River flows into the Blank River at the
- 15:59Speaker 2: border of Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia.
- 16:02Speaker 9: I could be thinking about it all wrong though, Okay.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Okay, is that a blank whiteboard down there. It's gonna
- 16:07Speaker 2: cost you a perfect game. It probably is.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Damn Yeah.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Do you know any rivers in that part of the world.
- 16:14Speaker 1: I don't.
- 16:15Speaker 2: I don't. The Shinandoa River flows into the Blank River.
- 16:19Speaker 9: If I'm thinking about this correctly.
- 16:21Speaker 1: Wait, I just changed my answer up Virginia.
- 16:23Speaker 8: Based on my consternation.
- 16:25Speaker 1: No, just just thinking about it.
- 16:27Speaker 2: More a zero percenter.
- 16:32Speaker 4: There's a big whitewater river something that I.
- 16:35Speaker 9: Don't think that's see, that's the one.
- 16:37Speaker 8: I'm wondering which way it goes.
- 16:39Speaker 2: We have Maxim spelling, we have Yanni saying Whitewater culture.
- 16:45Speaker 8: That is a great place to go. HiT's some east
- 16:48Speaker 8: Coast Whitewater.
- 16:48Speaker 5: Though, Yeah, I mean I used to know people that
- 16:51Speaker 5: would leave the West to go there for that season.
- 16:54Speaker 8: Yeah, I can't remember the name of that river.
- 16:59Speaker 1: The answer, no, I don't.
- 17:01Speaker 2: Randall's trying to gather another little tick. Why is everybody ready?
- 17:08Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers. Max Smith says Plato,
- 17:17Speaker 2: Eric without an answer, Cade says Delaware, Alec without an answer.
- 17:22Speaker 2: Uh Nate says Potomac Reva without an answer. Yanni says Hudson.
- 17:28Speaker 2: The correct answer is the Potomac River. We're gonna give
- 17:33Speaker 2: it to Maxwell.
- 17:34Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 17:43Speaker 2: The meeting of the Shenandoah and Potomac happens at Harper's Ferry,
- 17:47Speaker 2: West Virginia. This stretch of water is known for great
- 17:51Speaker 2: bass fishing and catfishing. From here, the Potomac travels through Washington,
- 17:55Speaker 2: d C before entering the Chesapeake Bay.
- 17:57Speaker 8: You can there's a trail the w O D that
- 17:59Speaker 8: you can take all the way from Washington, DC out
- 18:01Speaker 8: Harper's Ferry, running bike and whatever.
- 18:03Speaker 2: And I think it's a National Historic Park there at
- 18:06Speaker 2: Harper's Ferry. Question five, the topic is cooking. This next
- 18:10Speaker 2: great question is via Steve Course and Steve Another goat
- 18:14Speaker 2: of sending me trivia questions, just like Titus. This type
- 18:17Speaker 2: of European pudding with a colorful name is actually a
- 18:21Speaker 2: sausage made of blood, fat and grains. We have eight
- 18:30Speaker 2: blank whiteboards in the room. This type of European pudding
- 18:34Speaker 2: with a colorful name is actually a sausage made of blood,
- 18:39Speaker 2: fat and grains. Randall, now coming up with an answer.
- 18:46Speaker 2: He's the only one. This type of European pudding with
- 18:50Speaker 2: a colorful name, it's actually a sausage made of blood,
- 18:53Speaker 2: fat and grains. Nate, have you been to Harper's Ferry before?
- 18:59Speaker 9: We never made it out there. We wanted to really bad.
- 19:02Speaker 8: There's like a cool train or something that goes out
- 19:03Speaker 8: of there. We had a whole trip plan and then
- 19:05Speaker 8: it fell through for some reason.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Tiny little town. I think it's like two hundred people.
- 19:08Speaker 2: But they've just like made tourism their industry. Now, this
- 19:13Speaker 2: type of European pudding with a colorful name is actually
- 19:15Speaker 2: a sausage made of blood, fat and grains. Randall, do
- 19:18Speaker 2: you have this one right?
- 19:21Speaker 10: I I think I don't want to say I do,
- 19:25Speaker 10: but I think is it a colorful name?
- 19:26Speaker 1: I think I have a decent guess that's.
- 19:28Speaker 8: What throws me off.
- 19:29Speaker 1: His colorful name?
- 19:30Speaker 8: Is it?
- 19:31Speaker 3: Or is it a sausage that's actually a sausage.
- 19:34Speaker 2: It's this type of European pudding with a colorful name,
- 19:38Speaker 2: is actually a sausage made of blood, fat and grains.
- 19:41Speaker 2: This is question five.
- 19:44Speaker 4: Sausage that is made of these things, but it's not
- 19:50Speaker 4: a colorful name.
- 19:52Speaker 1: No. Wait, I have another guest.
- 19:56Speaker 2: Now, Oh, you stick with what you have or change it.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Let me ask you a question.
- 20:02Speaker 10: When you say colorful name, do you mean that literally
- 20:06Speaker 10: or figuratively?
- 20:07Speaker 2: Not going to help you.
- 20:12Speaker 4: Usually he's pretty literally. I got it. He's pretty literal.
- 20:16Speaker 1: And you have a nice back whiteboard there? Oh that yeah?
- 20:21Speaker 1: Is that?
- 20:22Speaker 9: Boys? So stoked? I get this ride and be so stoked?
- 20:28Speaker 1: Did I give this?
- 20:28Speaker 2: TNA?
- 20:29Speaker 1: Did I give this to you?
- 20:31Speaker 9: Nope? Hopefully not.
- 20:34Speaker 7: We gotta get some merch and like a graffiti stencil
- 20:36Speaker 7: font where like the paint is dripping off of it,
- 20:38Speaker 7: says like store boys and the like. There's like a
- 20:41Speaker 7: white it's like a fish shy lens from from down
- 20:43Speaker 7: below while they're all standing over it.
- 20:45Speaker 2: Certainly one of you stole boys is an artist, right,
- 20:47Speaker 2: Somebody there.
- 20:49Speaker 8: Dude, Trevor is an artist. Let me tell you what
- 20:52Speaker 8: with the camera. That's right, and I don't think any
- 20:55Speaker 8: of us t dog media.
- 20:58Speaker 2: This type of European pudding with a colorful name is
- 21:01Speaker 2: actually a sausage made of blood, fat and grains. Is everything?
- 21:04Speaker 2: Is everybody ready? Yanni?
- 21:10Speaker 4: You one more time?
- 21:12Speaker 2: Do you have an answer there?
- 21:13Speaker 1: Not literal, not figurative. You're not going to answer that.
- 21:16Speaker 9: Don't answer it, don't answer, I.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Think, Nate, Nate, do you have a perfect game going?
- 21:22Speaker 4: Yep?
- 21:22Speaker 2: Okay, what would you say?
- 21:23Speaker 4: You think it's more of a literal.
- 21:25Speaker 8: I'm not telling you unless his answer and tell them
- 21:29Speaker 8: the opposite of what you think it is, Nate.
- 21:31Speaker 9: But maybe actually the real one.
- 21:34Speaker 8: I double its figurative or do I mean serious?
- 21:40Speaker 9: We got the same answer.
- 21:41Speaker 2: That's everybody ready? I did. I would never ever go
- 21:45Speaker 2: ahead and reveal your answer, Maximith without an answer, Randall
- 21:51Speaker 2: says bloody dick, Eric red pudding, Cade black pudding, Alec
- 21:58Speaker 2: blood sausage, Nate spotted dick, Reva red pudding, Yanni, blood sausage.
- 22:06Speaker 2: The correct answer is black pudding.
- 22:13Speaker 9: Dude, I'm pretty sure one.
- 22:17Speaker 2: That wouldn't be colored.
- 22:17Speaker 8: It was literally figuratively color he is colorful language, he
- 22:22Speaker 8: uses foul language.
- 22:23Speaker 2: Black pudding is also known as blood pudding and blood sausage.
- 22:29Speaker 2: It's considered one of the world's oldest forms of sausage,
- 22:33Speaker 2: with mentions of it in Homer's the Odyssey dating back
- 22:36Speaker 2: to seven hundred BC. Blood from cows, pigs, and sheep
- 22:40Speaker 2: are most commonly used, but it also works with game
- 22:42Speaker 2: and fish. For a fishy version of black pudding, go
- 22:45Speaker 2: check out April Vok's recipe on the meat eater dot
- 22:48Speaker 2: com called fish kidney black pudding. No one has left
- 22:52Speaker 2: a rating for that recipe, and I'm dying to know
- 22:54Speaker 2: how it tastes, so I'd love if some listeners would
- 22:57Speaker 2: go make it and review it again. That's a revokes
- 23:01Speaker 2: fish and kidney black Nate.
- 23:03Speaker 7: Spotted dick is made dried fruit like raisins, which which
- 23:06Speaker 7: is why it's spotted now.
- 23:07Speaker 2: Yanni wrote down blood sausage, which is also one of
- 23:11Speaker 2: your names. Should we give it to you?
- 23:13Speaker 1: Because blood was in the answer and blood is not
- 23:15Speaker 1: a colorful I also had blood sausage. That's where my
- 23:18Speaker 1: mind was going.
- 23:18Speaker 2: Don't take this away from me. Spencer got that one right.
- 23:22Speaker 8: If we have.
- 23:24Speaker 1: Bloody dick.
- 23:27Speaker 7: Yeah, I'll turn safe search off, all right, Phil.
- 23:29Speaker 2: Scoreboard update, please.
- 23:32Speaker 7: Carry is the last place with no points with one,
- 23:39Speaker 7: Max and Reva and Giannis all have three points. Piece
- 23:44Speaker 7: tied up in first place with four points. Every one
- 23:47Speaker 7: of them are Cad Randall and Nate.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Right.
- 23:52Speaker 1: I thought you still had a perfect game.
- 23:54Speaker 2: I know I missed the Potomac question. Fun game going
- 23:59Speaker 2: into question sick.
- 24:00Speaker 9: I'm so confident about that last one.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Question six, The topic is ecology. This fruity term refers
- 24:10Speaker 2: to a region that has warmer weather, particularly in winter,
- 24:15Speaker 2: than the surrounding geographical area. All Right, the room has
- 24:21Speaker 2: their confidence back. This fruity term never happens to a
- 24:25Speaker 2: region that has warmer weather, particularly in winter, than the
- 24:30Speaker 2: surrounding geographical area.
- 24:33Speaker 4: I don't think I knew black pudding. I don't think
- 24:35Speaker 4: that was in there.
- 24:36Speaker 8: Hmm, I've never had it. I think it was.
- 24:40Speaker 5: I've had a lot of butod sausage, but I don't
- 24:43Speaker 5: know if it was known as blood sausage.
- 24:47Speaker 4: But is it the same thing.
- 24:48Speaker 2: I think if you have a like Boudan, is you
- 24:51Speaker 2: know that's made of blood as well? I feel like
- 24:53Speaker 2: if you've had Boudan, you could say you've had black pudding.
- 24:57Speaker 1: I don't think there's blood in Budan.
- 24:59Speaker 8: Is the there's not a blood base playing.
- 25:01Speaker 2: Okay, I'm sorry. I thought bud had there.
- 25:05Speaker 7: There's a variety of bud noir, which is black and
- 25:09Speaker 7: that has that's that's black pudding.
- 25:12Speaker 2: Question specifically six.
- 25:14Speaker 4: This fruity term, I've got a computer.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Refers to a region that has warmer weather, particularly in winter,
- 25:21Speaker 2: than the surrounding geographical area. Half half the room thinks
- 25:30Speaker 2: they have it, the other half not so much. Max,
- 25:36Speaker 2: know what you think?
- 25:39Speaker 6: We literally talked about this like three days.
- 25:41Speaker 2: Ago, Kate says. The store boys were discussing this fruity term.
- 25:47Speaker 1: Just you're gonna want to start.
- 25:48Speaker 9: Over anything that rhymes with this?
- 25:52Speaker 2: No, did that help you? Alec No, I don't remember
- 25:56Speaker 2: this conversation. Was Alec there, kid, he was there.
- 25:58Speaker 8: I was talking directly.
- 26:01Speaker 10: Don't don't say anything loud, but in your head start
- 26:04Speaker 10: thinking through types of fruit.
- 26:08Speaker 2: This fruity term refers to a region that has warmer weather,
- 26:12Speaker 2: particularly like to live in one of these regions and
- 26:15Speaker 2: this surrounding geographic area.
- 26:18Speaker 4: To grow stuff?
- 26:19Speaker 2: Better about that? No, man, I'm really curious why you
- 26:25Speaker 2: have Maximus? Is everybody ready, go ahead and reveal your
- 26:32Speaker 2: answers Maximus without an answer. Randall says banana belt, Eric
- 26:36Speaker 2: without an answer, Cad banana belt, Alec without an answer.
- 26:40Speaker 2: Nate says tropical, says citrus belt. Yanni says banana belt.
- 26:46Speaker 2: The correct answer is a banana belt.
- 26:49Speaker 9: I feel like tropical would work.
- 26:51Speaker 6: Too, would honeyhole?
- 27:00Speaker 2: No, we'll get to that later. What's your question?
- 27:03Speaker 6: Would you like consider like the banana belt, like kind
- 27:05Speaker 6: of like the honey hoole?
- 27:06Speaker 2: Like no, no, I'll tell you. Banana belts are created
- 27:10Speaker 2: by geographical features, such as mountains or lakes. Some examples
- 27:15Speaker 2: of banana belts include the Escanaba region in Michigan's up
- 27:19Speaker 2: Central Colorado's Arkansas River Valley, the Lake Champlain Valley of
- 27:23Speaker 2: New York and Vermont, the Treasure Valley of southwest Idaho,
- 27:27Speaker 2: and the Niagara Peninsula in Ontario. So it's just a
- 27:31Speaker 2: small area that's warmer than the surrounding.
- 27:34Speaker 9: Bitter tropical could be right, answer.
- 27:37Speaker 2: We're not going to give that to you.
- 27:38Speaker 9: I'm out there like, like, what how would you describe
- 27:42Speaker 9: the flavor of tropic?
- 27:43Speaker 8: Described tropical as flavor like fruity.
- 27:46Speaker 10: Would you describe any of those places Lake Champagne.
- 27:50Speaker 8: Which I didn't even listen Lake.
- 27:57Speaker 9: Definitely not.
- 27:58Speaker 2: Those are banana belts. Question seven, the topic is fishing.
- 28:02Speaker 2: Another banana belt, Max, is the Black Hills of South Dakota.
- 28:05Speaker 2: You've hunted it in a banana belt.
- 28:06Speaker 5: I feel like like northwest part of Montana has a
- 28:09Speaker 5: banana belt.
- 28:10Speaker 2: I think it can be like very micro, it can
- 28:12Speaker 2: be very big. So there's there's banana belts all over.
- 28:15Speaker 5: Questions about tropical is that there is no winter in
- 28:19Speaker 5: tropical climate?
- 28:20Speaker 3: That?
- 28:20Speaker 8: Well, when I was thinking, like at what scale are
- 28:23Speaker 8: you talking geographically?
- 28:24Speaker 9: I was thinking of the Earth.
- 28:26Speaker 8: I'm admitting I was wrong. I'm just saying you could
- 28:29Speaker 8: read this and landed, like you could have written this
- 28:32Speaker 8: question and landed.
- 28:33Speaker 1: If it didn't have to be fruity, you could have
- 28:36Speaker 1: just said equator.
- 28:37Speaker 9: But tropical is fruity?
- 28:39Speaker 8: Like how what like banana?
- 28:43Speaker 1: I'm not saying tropics.
- 28:47Speaker 6: Yeah, globe, I think my first answer was better than drop.
- 28:52Speaker 2: What were your first answers?
- 28:54Speaker 6: Max, Orange and citrus?
- 28:57Speaker 2: Question The topic is fishing. This next great question is
- 29:02Speaker 2: via Jacob Norris. He said this all the way back
- 29:04Speaker 2: in twenty twenty two, so it took four years to
- 29:07Speaker 2: make it. On the ship question, let me see if
- 29:12Speaker 2: this Japanese words to a fish slaughtering technique where a
- 29:18Speaker 2: spike is driven into the brain followed by destruction of
- 29:22Speaker 2: the spinal cord.
- 29:23Speaker 9: I have no idea. I got the sounds.
- 29:25Speaker 3: My brother in law is going to be so mad
- 29:27Speaker 3: at me. We just used one of these and over Christmas.
- 29:30Speaker 2: Really you've watched what you're doing, catch walleye. This Japanese
- 29:35Speaker 2: word refers to a fish slaughtering technique where a spike
- 29:39Speaker 2: is driven into the brain followed by destruction of the
- 29:43Speaker 2: spinal cord.
- 29:44Speaker 6: We're going to take a picture and send that to him.
- 29:46Speaker 2: He's gonna Randall has this one. He thinks he's the
- 29:50Speaker 2: only player.
- 29:54Speaker 1: Hello, were you guys at the store last night?
- 29:58Speaker 4: Ten?
- 29:58Speaker 2: They shut her down? Plaid the fifth on.
- 30:01Speaker 8: That is the fire marshal listening.
- 30:08Speaker 2: This Japanese word refers to a fish slaughtering technique where
- 30:12Speaker 2: a spike is driven into the brain followed by destruction
- 30:14Speaker 2: of the spinal cord.
- 30:16Speaker 4: You said fanatically, is okay?
- 30:19Speaker 2: I never said any spelling doesn't never, I mean spelling
- 30:22Speaker 2: doesn't count, but you got to be close.
- 30:24Speaker 4: Well, if you read what I have written, you will
- 30:27Speaker 4: pronounce the right word. I have no idea.
- 30:29Speaker 7: Max just got a point for platonic between lines.
- 30:39Speaker 2: Again, this is question seven topic.
- 30:43Speaker 4: So you've done this to a fish?
- 30:46Speaker 2: Watched his brother in law?
- 30:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I watched him do it, and.
- 30:50Speaker 5: Something crew was going to go. Is going to do
- 30:54Speaker 5: some of this to make some content? I think, yeah, maybe.
- 30:59Speaker 1: To me a man.
- 31:01Speaker 2: This Japanese word slaughtering technique or something in your future
- 31:07Speaker 2: is driven into the brain. Is Max on his phone?
- 31:09Speaker 2: Followed by anything I'm sending it to him? He's doing
- 31:13Speaker 2: phone a friend?
- 31:14Speaker 6: Phone a Friend're gonna be.
- 31:17Speaker 4: Pumped, Jazz?
- 31:21Speaker 1: Why is Reva in this photo? Sorry?
- 31:26Speaker 6: I should ask for permission?
- 31:28Speaker 2: Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers? Max
- 31:33Speaker 2: without an answer, Randall, E K G May, Eric without
- 31:37Speaker 2: an answer, Kate without an answer, Alec without an answer, Nate,
- 31:40Speaker 2: e K G May, Reva the bottomize Yanni e k
- 31:46Speaker 2: G May. The correct answer is e K G may.
- 31:49Speaker 2: Well done, Yanni. Everything you need now. The spelling on
- 31:54Speaker 2: that is I K E J I M E or
- 31:59Speaker 2: I K I J I M E or I K
- 32:03Speaker 2: E SPACE J I m e. So you have three
- 32:06Speaker 2: choices there, or you do like Yanni. I think Yanni
- 32:08Speaker 2: had ten characters in his but it was it had
- 32:10Speaker 2: everything we needed.
- 32:11Speaker 8: Spelling brothers A dude, I just learned that there used
- 32:14Speaker 8: to be female samurai.
- 32:17Speaker 2: Okay, spike is correctly used, the fish's jaw will instantly
- 32:24Speaker 2: hang lip. The fish then has its spinal cord destroyed,
- 32:28Speaker 2: is thoroughly bled and put on ice. This humane slaughtering
- 32:31Speaker 2: technique prevents the build up of blactic acid and adrenaline,
- 32:34Speaker 2: which creates a better quality meat. K g MA is
- 32:37Speaker 2: commonly used when a fish is destined for sushi. Max.
- 32:42Speaker 2: Did you guys destroy the spinal cord as well?
- 32:45Speaker 4: No?
- 32:45Speaker 6: It was marshl just a spike in.
- 32:48Speaker 2: Did you make sushi out of that walleye?
- 32:50Speaker 3: No?
- 32:50Speaker 2: But he made some walleye cakes butt it tasted even better.
- 32:54Speaker 3: Then.
- 32:54Speaker 2: Here's question eight. Topic is gear. The Utah brands Black
- 33:00Speaker 2: Ovis and Camo Blank announced in October twenty twenty five
- 33:05Speaker 2: that they were shutting down operations.
- 33:08Speaker 9: Not happy with these guys.
- 33:11Speaker 2: The Utah brands Black Ovis and Camo Blank announced in
- 33:17Speaker 2: October twenty twenty five they were shutting down operations do
- 33:22Speaker 2: they did. They have some FHF stuff and stuff.
- 33:26Speaker 9: Buddy.
- 33:27Speaker 8: They ordered it two weeks before they announced the shutdown. Like,
- 33:31Speaker 8: why you even do that, dude?
- 33:32Speaker 1: What are you thinking?
- 33:34Speaker 6: Mac got it right?
- 33:35Speaker 2: Oh he and that is mostly just a picture of Riva.
- 33:44Speaker 9: To again.
- 33:48Speaker 2: We'll get a scoreboard update after this. The Utah brands
- 33:52Speaker 2: black Ovis and Camo Blank announced in October in twenty
- 33:56Speaker 2: twenty five, they were shutting down operation are working.

- 34:08Speaker 4: My brain just doesn't work anymore.
- 34:10Speaker 6: Yeah, I thought you were gonna say women.
- 34:13Speaker 1: That we don't got to bring that up.
- 34:17Speaker 2: Max, if the other store boys, do you guys have
- 34:20Speaker 2: this right? Oh?
- 34:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I believe.
- 34:22Speaker 2: Should Eric know this? Yeah? I should? Damn Eric might
- 34:27Speaker 2: after retire after today? Is everybody ready? Go ahead and
- 34:31Speaker 2: reveal your answers? Max says fire, Randall fire, Eric without
- 34:36Speaker 2: an answer. Kate says fire, Alec fire, Nate fire, Reva
- 34:40Speaker 2: without an answer, Yanni fire. The correct answer is fire.
- 34:45Speaker 2: Black Ovis made hunting gear, while Camo Fire sold discounted
- 34:49Speaker 2: hunting gear. The brands were founded in two thousand and
- 34:51Speaker 2: eight in Salt Lake City. In a hunting forum post
- 34:54Speaker 2: made by the company's co founder, he said this of
- 34:57Speaker 2: their bankruptcy quote, if there are eight nails in this coffin, tariffs,
- 35:02Speaker 2: were four of them?
- 35:03Speaker 8: All?

- 35:06Speaker 1: You were on the slide, Yes.
- 35:08Speaker 2: I was, I went. I hunted that down. He was
- 35:11Speaker 2: very open about how the you know, final week of
- 35:14Speaker 2: business went.
- 35:16Speaker 7: Let's see here, Eric still a chance, alec Reva, Randa
- 35:21Speaker 7: and Maximilian are no longer in the running for the victory,
- 35:25Speaker 7: but we have Nate, Jannis and Caid tied up with
- 35:29Speaker 7: six and Randall getting the Ikaga question correct and Caid
- 35:33Speaker 7: missing it, and Randall is now in first place with seven.
- 35:37Speaker 1: Kate, if you feel good about these next two, all
- 35:39Speaker 1: drop one.
- 35:41Speaker 8: I really want to go to a tiebreaker.
- 35:43Speaker 2: Randall's just in a better mood when the store boys

- 36:47Speaker 8: nailed that one, like tropic of cancer.
- 36:50Speaker 9: Ao.
- 36:51Speaker 2: Have you heard of banana belt? Yeah?
- 36:53Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, that's definitely a better answer, although I think
- 36:55Speaker 8: mine stilled out.
- 36:56Speaker 2: This nine letter word is defined as animals such as bears, bison,
- 37:02Speaker 2: or mammoths of a particularly large size.
- 37:07Speaker 9: Literally tropical fruit like that's a thing.

- 38:00Speaker 2: What are you taking pictures of? Over there?
- 38:01Speaker 9: Nothing?
- 38:02Speaker 8: I'm looking up the word that I learned that I
- 38:03Speaker 8: forgot about. That is the term for female samurai. Can't
- 38:13Speaker 8: do it.
- 38:13Speaker 2: Reva is still playing for fifth place over there? Oh,
- 38:19Speaker 2: nine letter word, Yanni a guest, go ahead and reveal
