Transcript
- Lucas: Luna, we've taught so many bakery phrases over the years, but I just realized something. Luna: What's that, Lucas? Lucas: We've never taught our listeners how to order cookies. Koekjes. The best part of any bakery. Luna: Oh, that's so true. Cookies are the best. And if Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with Dutch, you know what keeps these episodes ad-free and rolling? A couple of dollars a month from listeners who enjoy them. It's like buying us a coffee, but it actually buys the microphone. Lucas: Yeah, it's a small thing that makes a huge difference. If you've gotten something out of these lessons, buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Every little bit helps us keep making more. Luna: Exactly. Now, let's get to those koekjes. I'm already hungry. Lucas: Perfect. So, today we're going to learn how to ask for a cookie at a Dutch bakery. The most important phrase is: Een koekje, alstublieft. Luna: Een koekje, alstublieft. That means 'a cookie, please'. Lucas: Exactly. And you can make it a question: Mag ik een koekje? That's 'May I have a cookie?'. Luna: Mag ik een koekje? I like that. It's polite. Lucas: It is. And if you want to be a bit more direct, you can say: Ik wil graag een koekje. Luna: Ik wil graag een koekje. That's 'I would like a cookie'. Lucas: Right. Now, let's put them to use. Imagine you're at a bakery in Utrecht, and you see a tray of fresh cookies. Luna: I'd say: Een koekje, alstublieft. Lucas: Perfect. And if you want to ask the price, you say: Hoeveel kost een koekje? Luna: Hoeveel kost een koekje? How much does a cookie cost? Lucas: Yes. And after you take a bite, you can say: Dat is lekker. That means 'That is tasty'. Luna: Dat is lekker. I hope I get to say that today. Lucas: Let's practice a short dialogue. I'll be the baker. You come to the counter. Luna: Okay. Lucas: Hallo, wat kan ik voor u doen? Luna: Ik wil graag een koekje. Lucas: Hier is uw koekje. Dat is twee euro. Luna: Hoeveel kost een koekje? Oh, that's the price. Sorry, I asked the wrong question. Let me try again. Hoeveel kost een koekje? Lucas: No problem. It's two euros. And then you say: Bedankt. Luna: Bedankt. And then I take a bite and say: Dat is lekker. Lucas: Perfect. Now, let's review all the phrases one more time. Een koekje, alstublieft. Luna: Een koekje, alstublieft. Lucas: Mag ik een koekje? Luna: Mag ik een koekje? Lucas: Ik wil graag een koekje. Luna: Ik wil graag een koekje. Lucas: Hoeveel kost een koekje? Luna: Hoeveel kost een koekje? Lucas: Dat is lekker. Luna: Dat is lekker. Oh, I'm so ready to try these in a real bakery. Lucas: And remember, if you want to buy more than one, you can say: Ik wil graag twee koekjes. Luna: Ik wil graag twee koekjes. But that's for another episode, right? Lucas: Exactly. For now, practice these five phrases. Listen to this episode again, repeat after us, and you'll be ready for your next Dutch bakery visit. Luna: And if you enjoyed this, don't forget to check out our other episodes. We have so many handy phrases. Lucas: See you next time, listeners. Tot ziens! Luna: Tot ziens!
