- 0:00Speaker 1: Station.
- 0:00Speaker 2: I good morning, good morning, good morning, Welcome, welcome, welcome.
- 0:08Speaker 2: The sun is shining.
- 0:09Speaker 3: I can see the gleaming glimmer off the new Toyota's
- 0:13Speaker 3: down there at done this Toyota.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Hi, Brad, how you doing?
- 0:16Speaker 3: Good morning Tom? Hello everyone, Thank you for joining us
- 0:19Speaker 3: this morning. We're so glad you're with us today. It's
- 0:22Speaker 3: another great car talk here in Bartlesville. And it is
- 0:25Speaker 3: kind of a pretty morning there with the blue skies
- 0:27Speaker 3: and not quite as windy as yesterday. And I've got
- 0:32Speaker 3: my good friend Chavon Rolls from west Side Community Center.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Welcome, say hello to everyone.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Hello, everyone, and thank you so much for having me again.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Well, it's great to have you here.
- 0:42Speaker 3: And you guys always have lots of stuff going on,
- 0:45Speaker 3: and you're celebrating your seventy fifth anniversary at west Side
- 0:49Speaker 3: Community Center, so I thought it was really appropriate to
- 0:53Speaker 3: get you in here another all that jazz right around
- 0:56Speaker 3: the corner coming back, I kind of I kind of
- 0:59Speaker 3: assumed just kept right on going, but I guess it
- 1:02Speaker 3: stopped a few years ago and it's coming back. So
- 1:05Speaker 3: we're we'll be excited to join you out there on Saturday,
- 1:09Speaker 3: the thirty first, at the Hillcrest Country Club for one
- 1:13Speaker 3: of the really great events in Bartlesville. It's always lots
- 1:16Speaker 3: of fun, lots of good entertainment.
- 1:18Speaker 2: And it is one of the one of the best events,
- 1:23Speaker 2: I think so.
- 1:26Speaker 3: But there's always other stuff going on, and we've been
- 1:29Speaker 3: really busy at the dealership. It's twenty twenty six and
- 1:33Speaker 3: we're off and running with great deals and we had
- 1:36Speaker 3: a outstanding December. Did We were number one in our district,
- 1:42Speaker 3: which is all of Oklahoma and a bit of West
- 1:44Speaker 3: Texas and percent of objective for all the Toyota dealers
- 1:48Speaker 3: in our area and over one hundred and fifteen percent
- 1:51Speaker 3: of objective, which kind of has a little bit.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Lower, left us with a few.
- 1:59Speaker 3: Gaps on the lot, let's just say, but the pipeline
- 2:04Speaker 3: is filled up. We got over thirteen tacomas allocated to
- 2:09Speaker 3: us on the last allocation, and a bunch of other
- 2:13Speaker 3: great vehicles, and there's a pretty good selection.
- 2:15Speaker 2: As we've been growing this.
- 2:16Speaker 3: Last year, as we hit these these troughs, they just
- 2:20Speaker 3: keep getting a little bit bigger. So are actually the
- 2:24Speaker 3: low inventory keeps rising. So but that's that's the way
- 2:29Speaker 3: it works in the Toyota world. We've got to try
- 2:32Speaker 3: to sell out of them virtually every every only twice
- 2:36Speaker 3: a month what they call the sales base. At the
- 2:39Speaker 3: middle of the month, we are a inventory on it.
- 2:42Speaker 3: This month, it'll be on the twentieth, So putting together
- 2:46Speaker 3: deals before the twentieth is a.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Priority right now and then and then again at the
- 2:50Speaker 2: end of the month.
- 2:51Speaker 3: And it's just exciting. Never stops at the dealership great,
- 2:57Speaker 3: And that's kind of the same thing out of Westside
- 3:00Speaker 3: Community Center.
- 3:02Speaker 2: You guys. First of all, you've got a big lot
- 3:05Speaker 2: of work going on at the center during this a
- 3:07Speaker 2: little were talking.
- 3:08Speaker 3: Before about you've rolled up your sleeves and doing really
- 3:16Speaker 3: a whole new facelift for the whole for the facility.
- 3:18Speaker 4: One hundred percent. And it's very exciting because as our
- 3:21Speaker 4: offerings for the community, the way we show up for
- 3:23Speaker 4: the community, the way we support the community. For our
- 3:26Speaker 4: seventy fifth anniversary year, which is twenty twenty six, we're
- 3:29Speaker 4: also renovating the facility as well. We want to make
- 3:33Speaker 4: it where it's more welcoming for the community to come in.
- 3:35Speaker 4: So everything from our community hall, we've completely torn up
- 3:40Speaker 4: our stage. I was just kind of laughing and telling
- 3:42Speaker 4: you guys, earlier. The moment I get off for here,
- 3:44Speaker 4: I'm throwing on some jogging pants, my workmen's goggles and gloves,
- 3:47Speaker 4: and we're gonna start rebuilding that stage. But we are
- 3:50Speaker 4: completely rehauling the community hall, the dining hall, and some
- 3:53Speaker 4: of the other aspects of the of the building just
- 3:56Speaker 4: to really make sure that it is able to hold
- 3:59Speaker 4: a lot of the new programming that we're rolling out
- 4:01Speaker 4: in our new focus for twenty twenty six.
- 4:03Speaker 1: So that is exciting.
- 4:05Speaker 3: So talk about the new programming. What do you guys
- 4:08Speaker 3: have planned for this year?
- 4:09Speaker 1: I am excited.
- 4:10Speaker 4: So for most people when they hear about Westside Community Center,
- 4:14Speaker 4: they tend to think of us as an after school
- 4:15Speaker 4: program for kids, and though youth will always be central
- 4:19Speaker 4: to what we do as a community center, I really
- 4:23Speaker 4: believe that we are best suited if we service all
- 4:26Speaker 4: of Bartlesville as a community center, so not just our youth,
- 4:29Speaker 4: but our adults and our seniors as well, and just
- 4:32Speaker 4: family friendly.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Programming as well.
- 4:34Speaker 4: So we are actually shifting from a community center into
- 4:37Speaker 4: more of a cultural inheritance center, so we can really
- 4:41Speaker 4: focus on highlighting the various cultures and communities within our
- 4:46Speaker 4: larger community. Our larger Bartlesville. So I'm very excited about that.
- 4:51Speaker 4: We've been connecting with different places, different organizations throughout the city,
- 4:55Speaker 4: but we want to tell stories of African Americans that
- 4:58Speaker 4: are here, a lot of immigrants that here. I don't
- 5:00Speaker 4: think people realize that what most of us know as
- 5:04Speaker 4: Zinc was known as the smelter many many many years ago,
- 5:07Speaker 4: and there were so many families that uprooted and came
- 5:10Speaker 4: to this area to make a new life for.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Themselves through the smelter.
- 5:14Speaker 4: So those even those stories, those communities, a lot of
- 5:18Speaker 4: things that kind of.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Sparked out of that. We are going to highlight all
- 5:22Speaker 1: of those stories this year.
- 5:23Speaker 4: But more than anything else, regardless of who you are
- 5:26Speaker 4: and where you come from, we want you to come
- 5:29Speaker 4: to the center and see yourself in that. So we
- 5:31Speaker 4: will be celebrating every single month different different cultures, different heritages.
- 5:35Speaker 1: And if you haven't had a.
- 5:36Speaker 4: Chance to come to one of our tastes of communities
- 5:38Speaker 4: and you like food, I'm just saying, what better way
- 5:41Speaker 4: to learn about other cultures than through some really.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Great food, some fun music, Like that's the way to
- 5:46Speaker 1: do it.
- 5:47Speaker 4: But yes, we really are just shifting into more of
- 5:50Speaker 4: that cultural center to really highlight what I call like
- 5:54Speaker 4: a rich tapestry that Bartleshell has well.
- 5:57Speaker 2: It certainly does.
- 5:58Speaker 3: And All That Jazz is another way to kind of
- 6:02Speaker 3: support the organization, but and find out.
- 6:05Speaker 2: More and celebrate with everyone.
- 6:08Speaker 3: Yes, because seventy five years is a great accomplishmentsion.
- 6:13Speaker 2: That's uh. And it's not easy to keep something going, No,
- 6:17Speaker 2: it's not.
- 6:18Speaker 3: Especially in the nonprofit world and as a community center.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Staying relevant is things change. Times change, absolutely.
- 6:25Speaker 3: I know right after the last All That Jazz, COVID
- 6:29Speaker 3: exploded and that certainly made it a challenge for for
- 6:35Speaker 3: any place that brought that the whole your whole time,
- 6:38Speaker 3: you've brought people together, or you couldn't bring them together.
- 6:41Speaker 4: Quite, you couldn't even gather bring people together. Yes, so
- 6:46Speaker 4: it definitely did affect All That Jazz. And this is
- 6:49Speaker 4: one of the reasons why I'm so excited about this
- 6:51Speaker 4: year's All That Jazz. We've had a wonderful All That
- 6:55Speaker 4: Jazz Committee that has been responsible for that great time
- 6:58Speaker 4: that you remember do that you remember so well, And
- 7:02Speaker 4: so that committee has come back together and they are
- 7:05Speaker 4: spearheading us All That Jazz as well.
- 7:08Speaker 1: And that's what I think is so exciting.
- 7:09Speaker 4: But I thought, what better way to kick off our
- 7:12Speaker 4: seventy fifth anniversary than with jazz. As you know, jazz
- 7:15Speaker 4: is a culmination of different styles and musical genres, and
- 7:18Speaker 4: you have that. I think it's just a great, great,
- 7:21Speaker 4: great initial onset of our anniversary year because it encompasses
- 7:25Speaker 4: all that we're going to be doing throughout well for
- 7:28Speaker 4: the next seventy five years, the way that we're going
- 7:30Speaker 4: to serve this wonderful city of Bartlesville for the next That's.
- 7:33Speaker 3: A great image though, of jazz and the musical elements
- 7:38Speaker 3: of that and how it brings together all the different
- 7:42Speaker 3: patterns of life. But we can you've got some jazz
- 7:48Speaker 3: planned that what is the entertainment.
- 7:51Speaker 4: So it's going to be full Flevi Kings, which is
- 7:53Speaker 4: out of Tulsa.
- 7:56Speaker 1: I know many of you are familiar with them.
- 7:57Speaker 4: They are an amazing, amazing thing and I always tell people,
- 8:01Speaker 4: I said, I know you might want to come and
- 8:03Speaker 4: sit and look cute, and that's okay. We definitely want
- 8:06Speaker 4: you to do that, but also bring those little dance
- 8:08Speaker 4: and shoes or be ready to kick them off. We
- 8:11Speaker 4: are going to make sure that you are up and
- 8:13Speaker 4: having a great time. And that's why I love this event,
- 8:15Speaker 4: because jazz is a culmination of different styles and different
- 8:19Speaker 4: different styles of music, and you have our event that
- 8:22Speaker 4: is bringing in different parts of people. We have five
- 8:25Speaker 4: wards here and we're going to have people from every
- 8:27Speaker 4: single one of.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Those who really encompass who we are as a city.
- 8:30Speaker 4: But then it's just a great segue into how we
- 8:33Speaker 4: serve the city and we bring from the youth all
- 8:37Speaker 4: the way to seniors.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Together throughout the rest of the year.
- 8:41Speaker 4: At our last event that we had, we had individuals
- 8:44Speaker 4: as young as twenty all the way up to mid
- 8:47Speaker 4: seventies all in the same place having a great time,
- 8:50Speaker 4: enjoying each other, enjoying food and enjoying laughter, enjoying conversation.
- 8:54Speaker 4: And for me, that is who we are. That is
- 8:57Speaker 4: what it's all about. When you can get that range
- 9:00Speaker 4: of people and.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Just that intergenerational connection.
- 9:03Speaker 3: That's so important that we get people together from all
- 9:06Speaker 3: over town and.
- 9:09Speaker 2: You know, really.
- 9:10Speaker 3: Provide that space and the opportunity to gather and to
- 9:15Speaker 3: you know, whether it's eating or learning stuff about live finances. Absolutely,
- 9:22Speaker 3: you know, you guys do pretty much everything from yoga
- 9:26Speaker 3: and stuff like that to learn about financing after school
- 9:31Speaker 3: program senior programs you mentioned, and there's.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Stuff going on every day. How do you do that?
- 9:38Speaker 2: And renovated at the same time as the question, all, well.
- 9:41Speaker 4: The beautiful part of this, of this renovation, we've kind
- 9:43Speaker 4: of doaled it back a little bit. So we do
- 9:46Speaker 4: have like our yoga that's happening every Monday for January.
- 9:49Speaker 4: And I say that, but we also have a poetry
- 9:52Speaker 4: event workshop that's happening on Saturday. So I can't say
- 9:55Speaker 4: we've dialed it back too much, but most of our
- 9:58Speaker 4: stuff happens on the week Like last weekend we had
- 10:01Speaker 4: we Prosper we joined up with the Young Scholars. We
- 10:04Speaker 4: had sixty something kids in there learning about civics, real
- 10:07Speaker 4: world experience of learning about civics. This weekend we're going
- 10:10Speaker 4: to have kids learning about poetry and how to express
- 10:13Speaker 4: themselves through that artistic expression.
- 10:15Speaker 1: It is a beautiful thing.
- 10:16Speaker 4: And then next Saturday, we invite the community to come
- 10:19Speaker 4: out learn about how twenty twenty six is going to
- 10:22Speaker 4: pan out for Westside Community Center, how we are going
- 10:26Speaker 4: to shift the way we serve the community, but also
- 10:28Speaker 4: invite the community to be a part of something that
- 10:30Speaker 4: I think is going to be very beautiful for the
- 10:33Speaker 4: West corridor of the city, so we really are NonStop.
- 10:36Speaker 4: And then a Saturday after that, we're all going to
- 10:38Speaker 4: be at Hillcrest Country Club having an amazing time with
- 10:41Speaker 4: great food.
- 10:42Speaker 3: Danson and listening to jazz, having great food here and
- 10:45Speaker 3: I'm sure you will have that opportunity to learn more
- 10:47Speaker 3: about what's going on this year and all the different
- 10:50Speaker 3: programs that you do. And of course you cannot have
- 10:54Speaker 3: all this without the support of the community and volunteers
- 10:57Speaker 3: and your board. You mentioned the committee puts on all
- 11:00Speaker 3: that jazz. But but it is I know since you
- 11:05Speaker 3: got here a few years ago that this has been
- 11:08Speaker 3: your passion and you but that backstory of how you
- 11:12Speaker 3: got back to Bartlesview and they're involved again in the
- 11:16Speaker 3: West Side Community Center is a great story. So let's
- 11:20Speaker 3: let's remind people how that happened and what's where you
- 11:24Speaker 3: came from, what you know kind of your initial interaction
- 11:27Speaker 3: to west Side?
- 11:28Speaker 2: When did when did it all start at west Side
- 11:30Speaker 2: for you?
- 11:30Speaker 1: Which is a very beautiful thing.
- 11:32Speaker 4: And I always say, as long as I can remember,
- 11:34Speaker 4: I was a part of West Side, So I remember
- 11:36Speaker 4: taking tap in, ballet and dance classes and soap carving.
- 11:40Speaker 1: For anyone who.
- 11:41Speaker 4: Remembers that my soap carvings were at a little questionable, However,
- 11:45Speaker 4: no one's judging, and that was and that was a
- 11:48Speaker 4: beautiful thing. Even as a kid when I went to
- 11:50Speaker 4: the West Side Community Center. I started going at the
- 11:52Speaker 4: age of six, and they did something really beautiful.
- 11:55Speaker 1: They allowed us we.
- 11:56Speaker 4: Had some some creative drawings and clays and everything, but
- 12:02Speaker 4: we would get to display them at the Community Center downtown.
- 12:05Speaker 4: And I don't know a better way to say, as
- 12:08Speaker 4: an elementary kid, as a middle school kid, to walk
- 12:11Speaker 4: into what is like our civic engagement area for entertainment
- 12:15Speaker 4: and see your art displayed on the wall or see
- 12:18Speaker 4: your pottery displayed is such an amazing thing. But that
- 12:21Speaker 4: was my start, and I've attended Westside Community Center up
- 12:24Speaker 4: until I graduated. We did our workforce readiness program through them,
- 12:27Speaker 4: where I got to intern downtown at the City of Bartlesville,
- 12:31Speaker 4: also with a corporate attorney at Phillip sixty six. It
- 12:34Speaker 4: was a great experience. But I went to college, moved away.
- 12:37Speaker 4: All kinds of things happened there.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Great career, a lot.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Of things happening.
- 12:42Speaker 4: I mean, I've had a wonderful career that has spanned
- 12:44Speaker 4: so many in so many different areas that kind of seems.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Like a little mix up.
- 12:49Speaker 4: But I've learned since I've been back, all of those
- 12:51Speaker 4: experience helped prepare me for now. So when we came
- 12:54Speaker 4: back last year, to be very honest, I was trying
- 12:56Speaker 4: to convince my mother in law to move to the Caribbean.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Spanish is your first language. They speak Spanished there. This
- 13:02Speaker 1: is going to be wonderful.
- 13:03Speaker 4: But I learned about the West I Community Center closing
- 13:06Speaker 4: and volunteers that are there to help throughout events.
- 13:09Speaker 1: We have a wonderful board.
- 13:11Speaker 4: We've added some new members, but even our board members
- 13:13Speaker 4: that were there, everyone has really grass hold to this
- 13:16Speaker 4: new vision in this new direction at the West Side
- 13:18Speaker 4: Community Center is going.
- 13:20Speaker 1: And it's it's not just me.
- 13:21Speaker 4: It really is a whole host of people behind the
- 13:23Speaker 4: scenes that are helping make these things happen.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Yes, person, yes, and I and I really takes.
- 13:29Speaker 2: That leadership, I think. So I know that.
- 13:32Speaker 3: That especially when you're going through those kinds of changes
- 13:36Speaker 3: and you're imagining a different some different opportunities.
- 13:40Speaker 2: And how you want to bring.
- 13:43Speaker 3: Revitalize the center, because as it was, you know, I'm
- 13:47Speaker 3: sure the challenges of COVID and and fundraising, and I
- 13:53Speaker 3: know I've been involved in boards as they mature how
- 13:57Speaker 3: hard that is to stay focused and it really takes
- 14:01Speaker 3: that that leadership provided by the staff and by the
- 14:04Speaker 3: community itself of course.
- 14:07Speaker 2: And so is that that's going well? I assume based
- 14:10Speaker 2: on where.
- 14:11Speaker 1: You are, and it is it is really going well.
- 14:14Speaker 2: Well.
- 14:14Speaker 4: I'm that person that once I have once I see something,
- 14:18Speaker 4: once I get a vision in mind, I will do
- 14:21Speaker 4: everything that is possible to make it happen. And I've
- 14:23Speaker 4: just been very grateful that even when I woke up, well,
- 14:27Speaker 4: according to some of the staff, it's like, did you
- 14:29Speaker 4: just wake up today and decide that you wanted to
- 14:31Speaker 4: renovate the center? I was like, what kind of kind
- 14:34Speaker 4: of and this is what it's.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Going to look like.
- 14:36Speaker 4: But even that they were able to grasp hold of that,
- 14:38Speaker 4: and people just kind of walk alongside you as you're
- 14:41Speaker 4: doing all of those things.
- 14:42Speaker 1: And that's the type of person that I am.
- 14:44Speaker 4: I'm not going to ask other people to do something
- 14:46Speaker 4: that I'm not willing to do myself, and so.
- 14:48Speaker 1: I it surprises people when they come to the center, like,
- 14:51Speaker 1: so you're tearing up tyle.
- 14:52Speaker 4: One day you're paying, the next day you're out here
- 14:55Speaker 4: hammering on the station. But what to me, that is
- 14:59Speaker 4: what it's neces especially for the Westside Community Center right
- 15:02Speaker 4: now and the transition that we're going into, because I.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Really do believe in it.
- 15:06Speaker 4: I believe in what the center has been for the
- 15:10Speaker 4: life seventy five years. What I know that we have
- 15:13Speaker 4: the potential to be for the next seventy five years,
- 15:16Speaker 4: and I will do everything in my power to make
- 15:18Speaker 4: sure that it comes to fruition and just sharing that
- 15:21Speaker 4: vision with others.
- 15:22Speaker 3: We're so happy to help and welcome you back to
- 15:26Speaker 3: Bartlesville and to be a part of our community.
- 15:29Speaker 2: You know, that's one of the themes of the show.
- 15:32Speaker 3: I suppose the resilience of our community and the great
- 15:36Speaker 3: network of nonprofit organizations with the business community, the whole community,
- 15:43Speaker 3: and how we all support each other and have through
- 15:45Speaker 3: the years. And you know, it does provide a great
- 15:50Speaker 3: it's a great resource for us.
- 15:52Speaker 2: You know, we've been here.
- 15:53Speaker 3: My grandfather moved to Bartlesville in nineteen forty one to
- 15:57Speaker 3: bring his family here and seek opportunity too. And not
- 16:03Speaker 3: unlike those people who came to the smelter. He actually
- 16:07Speaker 3: got in the car business when his father had been
- 16:10Speaker 3: a Methodist minister and he passed away, and so my
- 16:14Speaker 3: great grandmother moved the family from Blackwell, Oklahoma to Tonkowa
- 16:19Speaker 3: so she could work at the library, and all her
- 16:24Speaker 3: three sons went to work at the Ford dealership there
- 16:27Speaker 3: in Tonkowa. And I've got a picture of them in
- 16:29Speaker 3: nineteen twenty five, all on a basketball team playing for
- 16:33Speaker 3: this Ford dealer who's behind them in the picture in
- 16:37Speaker 3: his Ford. And a few years later mister Ryan who
- 16:42Speaker 3: was the dealer after my grandfather and his brother graduated
- 16:46Speaker 3: from college, they got the opportunity to buy the dealership
- 16:50Speaker 3: in nineteen twenty nine, right on the verge of the depression, yes,
- 16:54Speaker 3: and then right at the beginning of World War Two
- 16:57Speaker 3: in nineteen forty one, they moved to Artlesville, and you know,
- 17:01Speaker 3: Ford stopped making cars, so resilience and and that multi
- 17:06Speaker 3: generational aspect is part of our business too. And it's
- 17:09Speaker 3: not that's similar to the story at the West Side
- 17:12Speaker 3: Community Center because it you know, those uh, you know,
- 17:15Speaker 3: those kinds of opportunities are are you know that you
- 17:20Speaker 3: guys are helping people find we call them at the
- 17:22Speaker 3: dealership sparks and that that that that when you when
- 17:27Speaker 3: you light a fire and people take it. And I
- 17:30Speaker 3: can tell that from your personality, you've got that spark
- 17:33Speaker 3: and you know you're you're trying to pass that on
- 17:36Speaker 3: to to others. And it doesn't matter young, old, whatever
- 17:41Speaker 3: background they have. It's all about UH providing that place
- 17:46Speaker 3: to kind of be inspired, I guess, and and UH
- 17:50Speaker 3: can be a part of something that's bigger than you
- 17:53Speaker 3: and we all we all kind of need that. And
- 17:55Speaker 3: you know, it's it's never enough just to to put
- 18:00Speaker 3: in your hours and take make a pay check and or.
- 18:04Speaker 2: You know, in the struggle these days, a cost of
- 18:07Speaker 2: living is up.
- 18:08Speaker 3: There's you know, so many challenges to putting food on
- 18:11Speaker 3: the table for people, and you know, so those resources
- 18:15Speaker 3: you help them access are so.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Important and it's so thank you for what you're doing there.
- 18:21Speaker 3: And I think this event again, it's Saturday, January thirty, first,
- 18:27Speaker 3: six pm and Hillcrest celebrating seventy five years of west
- 18:32Speaker 3: Side Community Center here in Bartlesville. And it's yeah, I
- 18:38Speaker 3: think that's just so exciting. And yeah, I know your
- 18:40Speaker 3: committee has you know, great probably great food plan too.
- 18:43Speaker 2: What else is going to happen that night. Anything else
- 18:46Speaker 2: we need to know about.
- 18:47Speaker 1: That night is really just about celebration.
- 18:51Speaker 4: It really is just good food, good entertainment, just really
- 18:53Speaker 4: about celebration, and just an introduction to invite people to
- 18:58Speaker 4: re engage with the community Center.
- 19:00Speaker 1: And that's really my biggest plea for people.

- 19:07Speaker 1: We invite you to come back out re engage with us.
- 19:10Speaker 1: This year.
- 19:10Speaker 4: We have some exciting, exciting things, especially when you talked
- 19:14Speaker 4: about the history of your family. Most people don't know that,
- 19:18Speaker 4: and that's something that we're hosting this year as well,
- 19:20Speaker 4: genealogy workshops to help people understand the history of their family.
- 19:24Speaker 1: I know, I'm fortunate enough to know that my.
- 19:26Speaker 4: Great grandfather came from Madagascar to Louisiana and he ended
- 19:30Speaker 4: up migrating further south, met my grandmother, who has lived
- 19:34Speaker 4: on a reservation, and they came here. A lot of
- 19:37Speaker 4: people don't have that story, but to have that and
- 19:40Speaker 4: to move into a new state, and they were in agriculture,
- 19:44Speaker 4: so but that resilience and that drive and just everything
- 19:48Speaker 4: that they did to make sure that their family was
- 19:51Speaker 4: able to have a better life, and then they migrated
- 19:54Speaker 4: here and here.
- 19:54Speaker 2: I am Alkahoma story.
- 19:57Speaker 5: So much of that opportunity, you know, when they opened
- 20:02Speaker 5: up Oklahoma and it was about a place where there
- 20:05Speaker 5: was different kinds of opportunities.
- 20:07Speaker 6: Absolutely, land run to the fullest extent, but to have
- 20:12Speaker 6: to sometimes it's really great for people to understand where
- 20:15Speaker 6: they come from because it helps you understand, well, that's
- 20:17Speaker 6: why I have that drive, That's why I have that tenacity,
- 20:19Speaker 6: That's why I can't give up, That's why I have
- 20:22Speaker 6: to keep going.
- 20:22Speaker 4: But those are really it's really great to have an
- 20:25Speaker 4: understanding of where you come from because it really lends
- 20:29Speaker 4: a great vision towards where you can go.
