- 0:10OK, welcome back to the Slippery Slope Podcast.
- 0:13So today's conversation is going to be fairly intense,
- 0:16thoughtful, probably a little a little uncomfortable for some.
- 0:20I've got Brian from Man of Faith Ministries with me.
- 0:23Brian, thanks for joining me today.
- 0:28Always good to be here with you, Jay.
- 0:29We're with what we're seeing around us at the moment.
- 0:33There is. These are serious times, and I
- 0:36believe serious times call for serious conversations.
- 0:40Yeah, they they really do. So today we're going to talk
- 0:44about prophecy, biblical prophecy, and whether what we're
- 0:48seeing unfold in the world lines up with Scripture, and
- 0:52specifically how modern governments like in Australia
- 0:55and the UK are shaping cultural and legal shifts that some
- 1:00Christians believe mirror prophetic warnings.
- 1:06So true, we're not quite as bad here as as the UK at the moment,
- 1:11but I'll say this clearly, we're not here to attack individuals
- 1:16or or set groups. We're here to examine ideas and
- 1:21the spiritual trends because Scripture tells us in Ephesians
- 1:256, verse 12 that we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but
- 1:29against principalities and against powers.
- 1:32So this is about spiritual realities that are influencing
- 1:37the systems. OK, so let's let's start.
- 1:41We'll start fairly broad. OK, so when people talk about
- 1:45prophecy unfolding, they usually jump straight to Revelation.
- 1:49But prophecy isn't just about beasts and symbols, it's about
- 1:54patterns. Do you, do you think?
- 1:56Do you agree? Exactly.
- 2:01The Bible shows us many recurring patterns.
- 2:05I've just done a video on Revelation and Daniel where what
- 2:08Daniel was talking about hundreds of years before is what
- 2:12Revelation is then speaking about.
- 2:14But in another one, in Timothy 3 verses 1 to 5, Paul writes in
- 2:19part this Know also that in the last days perilous times shall
- 2:23come. Then he goes on to describe
- 2:26people as lovers of self, and we're seeing that with this
- 2:30modern generation. Then lovers of pleasure more
- 2:35than lovers of God. Now, you don't need a theology
- 2:40degree to see the cultural shift towards self exaltation.
- 2:48Lovers of self, It's me, me, me. We see more of it, but the
- 2:51question is, are we watching society move towards what
- 2:56Scripture describes? Yeah.
- 3:00Yeah, yeah. 1 theme that keeps coming up is the idea of
- 3:04authority and who has it, who deserves it.
- 3:08Historically, Western nations were built with at least an
- 3:12acknowledgement of God. Now we seem to focus more on
- 3:17acknowledgement of country. But we had, you know, at least
- 3:20that acknowledgement of God. But now there's increasing
- 3:22tension between biblical convictions and state state
- 3:28directives. Exactly.
- 3:33It's and as you said, it's we seem to be going to with the
- 3:37welcome to country and worship at that.
- 3:40We seem to be going towards worship, worshipping the
- 3:43creation and not the creator, and that will steer us on the
- 3:46wrong path. And Romans 1 describes what
- 3:49happens when societies do suppress the truth.
- 3:52It says they did not like to retain God in their knowledge.
- 3:57When that happens, moral confusion is set to follow.
- 4:02That's that's a given. And the issue isn't just policy
- 4:05changes, it's the underlying philosophy.
- 4:09Is the state becoming the ultimate moral authority?
- 4:14Well, I say it's the immoral authority, but that's the
- 4:17question. Yeah, and that's it's it's
- 4:21fairly strong language. I've I've spoken before previous
- 4:24called podcast. My opinion is that the
- 4:27government is trying to replace God, is putting itself forward
- 4:31as God and that's why you referred to Rome as one.
- 4:35We have that reprobate mind. When you look up what reprobate
- 4:38is talking about, it's, it's saying that you've got a mind of
- 4:41lesser quality. You literally, these people
- 4:44literally cannot think properly. They have low quality.
- 4:49They just cannot think properly because they've given themselves
- 4:52over, completely given themselves over.
- 4:55But biblically it's, it's not a new concept, is it?
- 5:02Most definitely not when we think about the tower of Babel
- 5:07in Genesis 11. It is humanity said let us
- 5:11build, let us make a name now that was collective self
- 5:19exaltation back then and we see more and more of that now and
- 5:24then we can look to Daniel 3. Nebuchadnezzar erects an image
- 5:28and commands worship. And when government begins to
- 5:32define morality, identity and truth, and truth's a big one and
- 5:39sort of defines them apart from God, that's historically been a
- 5:44warning sign. And we all need to see that as a
- 5:46red flag and as a a warning sign today, Jay.
- 5:50Yeah, so some Christians see parallels in modern governments
- 5:54with biblical views on life. Gender, speech or or conscience
- 6:00increasingly clash with these modern legal frameworks.
- 6:06What? What do you think?
- 6:07And yeah, true, they're they seem to be making up the laws to
- 6:14suit those type of constructs. But here's the key to it all.
- 6:19Prophecy often warns of centralized authority demanding
- 6:24conformity. I look at that as the one world
- 6:27government 11 leadership for the whole world.
- 6:30And going back to Revelation 13, it speaks of a system that
- 6:36regulates buying and selling and enforces allegiance.
- 6:41And we must. We've got to be careful today.
- 6:45Not every regulation equals prophecy fulfilled, but the
- 6:51trajectory, the direction we're going on, the direction that the
- 6:55hierarchy and the elites and that want us to go on, that is
- 6:59what really matters. We need to keep an eye on that.
- 7:03OK, so let's talk about fear for a second.
- 7:05One reoccurring theme in discussions like like this is
- 7:10the idea that the fear is a powerful social tool.
- 7:18Well, it's more than a, a tool. It's, it's a way of it's
- 7:24becoming a way of life for, for governments to instill fear.
- 7:29Look, we, we look at the World Health Health Organization and
- 7:32our own health departments and that they instilled fear in the
- 7:35people to get to the ends of the main or the means of the ends of
- 7:39what the government wanted. And Scripture repeatedly tells
- 7:44believers to fear not that God governs throughout truth and
- 7:50love or through truth and love. Sorry, tyranny, biblically
- 7:54speaking, often governs through fear when the public discourse
- 8:00is dominated by the fear. Fear of a crisis, fear of
- 8:05instability, fear of social inclusion even, and fear of
- 8:10economic factors. It can condition populations to
- 8:14surrender their freedoms more easily.
- 8:17And that is that's dangerous for the people.
- 8:20It's good for the hierarchy, but it's dangerous for the people.
- 8:23Yeah, well, some argue that modern institutions, not just
- 8:27governments, I think that's what you're saying, that not just
- 8:30governments, but corporations and media, they're just
- 8:32amplifying fear based messaging because it's good for their it's
- 8:38it's good for their stats basically.
- 8:42Absolutely that's we need balance governments, they do
- 8:48respond to real crisis with we, we see that they, they do help
- 8:52us in real, real sort of crisis times.
- 8:56But then they they seem to be going that step further to bring
- 9:00those crises into line with what they want to establish.
- 9:06And the the issue isn't about whether that fear exists.
- 9:10It's whether the fear becomes the primary lever of influence
- 9:15that they're using. And as you said, yeah, the the
- 9:18institutions. And it's not just the
- 9:20government, it's the institutions as well.
- 9:23And in Second Timothy one verse 7, it says, for God hath not
- 9:28given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a
- 9:32sound mind. We all need to have a sound
- 9:35mind. If public culture increasingly
- 9:39discourages sound minded dissent, that's concerning.
- 9:46So. So I suppose this is where
- 9:50things get controversial. Some Christians believe
- 9:54authorities sometimes shape narratives strategically.
- 9:59I think I've seen that emphasizing certain threats
- 10:03while downplaying others to influence behaviour.
- 10:06What? What do you think?
- 10:11You're absolutely right there, Jay.
- 10:12It's we are seeing it and we must also be careful because
- 10:19it's easy to slide into speculation.
- 10:23But historically governments have used messaging to shape the
- 10:27public response. Look at in Queensland during
- 10:31COVID how the people who didn't want to have that medical
- 10:36procedure were being segregated by the the society around them
- 10:42because of what the government was saying.
- 10:45The government was saying it's those people that were causing
- 10:49the problem to spread and things like that.
- 10:51And that is a public, they get a public response to that
- 10:55strategy. And it wasn't a conspiracy.
- 10:59We saw that it's documented political strategy that they
- 11:03use. And the prophetic question is
- 11:05this, does society become more compliant when it operates in
- 11:11constant anxiety? Because that fear, that anxiety,
- 11:17will bring people into line if they think, if they constantly
- 11:22hear, it's for your own good. Yeah.
- 11:25And you know that compliance, it makes it easier to centralized
- 11:29power, I'd say. I think that's the way it goes.
- 11:33Oh yeah, certainly does. But going back to Scripture, it
- 11:38warns about deception in the last days.
- 11:41I don't know if we're in the last days or not.
- 11:43I'm not a prophet. I'm just a just a street
- 11:45chaplain that Jesus said in Matthew 24 verse 24 that
- 11:51deception would be so strong that if possible it would
- 11:56deceive even the elect. The issue isn't about partisan
- 12:01politics. It's about spiritual discernment
- 12:05because everything happens in the spiritual world and then it
- 12:09comes down into our physical world.
- 12:11OK mate, let's let's bring this a bit closer to home.
- 12:14So we've got in Australia and the UK, we've been seeing
- 12:16increasing debates around speech laws, religious freedoms
- 12:20depending on the religion and public morality.
- 12:24What are your? What do you think about this?
- 12:28That's that's it's so true. It's that's the believers,
- 12:34Christians feel attention and it doesn't matter where they are in
- 12:38the world when biblical teachings conflict with evolving
- 12:42social standards. And we're definitely seeing
- 12:45social standards evolving all over at the moment.
- 12:49But we must decide as Christians, do we conform or do
- 12:53we stand firm? And Acts 5 verse 29 says to us
- 12:58we ought to obey God rather than men.
- 13:02Now that doesn't mean open rebellion.
- 13:05It means conscience before God if we see the government telling
- 13:09us to to do something that goes against God's law.
- 13:14I would personally follow God's law over government over man's
- 13:18law any days a week. So history shows that whenever
- 13:22government authority, what expands into defining ultimate
- 13:26truth, it creates conflict, conflict with faith communities,
- 13:31I think. Well, yeah, the the early church
- 13:37faced that under the Roman rule. They weren't persecuted for
- 13:42worshipping Jesus privately. They were persecuted for
- 13:47actually refusing to say Caesar is Lord.
- 13:51And that's the line. It's it's not about them saying
- 13:56that that Jesus is Lord, that he didn't worry about that in
- 13:59private. But they wouldn't say that he
- 14:02was the Lord. So that's why he took action
- 14:04against them. Yeah.
- 14:06So, OK, so then ask the question everyone, I think a lot of
- 14:10people want answered. Is this it?
- 14:12Are we living in the final prophetic phrase, do you think?
- 14:18Phrase. I think nearly every.
- 14:20Generation phrase, yeah. It's all good.
- 14:26Do you want to read? I also, yeah, I was just saying.
- 14:30So do you believe? Are we living in the final
- 14:33prophetic phase? Well, Jay, every generation, I
- 14:38think, has asked that question. The early Christians thought so.
- 14:43But here's what I I think is the wise answer.
- 14:48We don't set gates. It's like it tells us in the
- 14:50Bible that that we're not supposed to know everything, but
- 14:55we can watch the patterns. And Jesus said to Matthew in 24
- 14:59verse 8 that certain signs are the beginning of sorrows.
- 15:07We hear about the birth pains and they increase in frequency
- 15:11and intensity before delivery. Whether this is the same final
- 15:15stretch or just another cycle, the spiritual preparation that
- 15:20that we've got to be ready for is the same.
- 15:24So, So what, what do you think? What should believers, people
- 15:28that would call themselves Christians, what do Bible
- 15:31believers actually? What should they actually be
- 15:33focusing on then? OK, I always tell people what 3
- 15:39main things to start with. Their faithfulness, their
- 15:43holiness, and using their discernment.
- 15:47The danger isn't the government overreach alone.
- 15:51The danger is our spiritual complacency.
- 15:55If society drifts away from God, which it seems to be doing, the
- 15:59church which is the body of Christ, which is Christians all
- 16:03over the world, we must not drift with it.
- 16:07We need to keep the focus on God.
- 16:11So you you're kind of saying so instead of instead of panicking
- 16:15and living in that fear with, with you, you're looking for,
- 16:18you're calling for clarity. Yep, most definitely.
- 16:23Christians are are not called to paranoia.
- 16:26Some dabble in paranoia. It's not like some dabble in
- 16:30spiritualism and things like that.
- 16:32But we're called to be Watchmen. We're called to watchfulness.
- 16:36Revelation 3 verse 2 says be watchful and strengthen the
- 16:40things which remain and that's the posture that we have to
- 16:44adopt as Christians we need to be watchful and we need to
- 16:49strengthen our faith if if what we're doing and what we're we're
- 16:55looking forward to otherwise we're not setting a good example
- 17:00the. Question So, so tell me, do you
- 17:02think, do you think Western governments are moving towards
- 17:06this, this posture I suppose you can say that marginalises
- 17:10biblical Christians or biblical Christianity?
- 17:18I believe that cultural Christianity is fading, and when
- 17:25society moves away from the biblical foundations in this
- 17:29book here, the the laws of the land will reflect that shift.
- 17:35And that's not persecution yet in most cases, it's a cultural
- 17:40transformation. But if truth becomes negotiable
- 17:45and conscience becomes conditional, then yes, believers
- 17:50will feel the increasing pressure.
- 17:53That's what do we know is truth. OK, So what is truth?
- 17:58So what? What's the antidote then?
- 18:01What do you think? How do we fix it?
- 18:04OK, well, just just my opinion. We need boldness.
- 18:10We need to be bold Christians. That's that's have our
- 18:13principles rooted in love. We speak the truth.
- 18:16We know it's the truth in this book, but we don't hate.
- 18:21We stand firm, but we don't rage.
- 18:24It's not our, not our our place to offer judgement on people or
- 18:31to get angry at people. That's his.
- 18:34That's his position, not ours. The early Church changed the
- 18:38world not by seizing power, but by refusing to compromise.
- 18:45OK, so listen, a lot of Christians seem to think that
- 18:51like Bible prophecy, we've been talking, that's the main
- 18:54framework we're talking about Bible prophecy.
- 18:58They, it seems that they they have this opinion that's very
- 19:01heavy and it's kind of scary. Do you think is there actually
- 19:05hope in prophecy? I think there's more hope in
- 19:11prophecy than than in our in our material world.
- 19:16Prophecy isn't about doom and gloom, it's about the victory at
- 19:20the end. And you and I both know that
- 19:23revelation ends with Christ reigning.
- 19:27Governments rise and they fall. They're only human empires
- 19:31collapse. That Psalm 2 reminds us that
- 19:34earthly rulers ultimately answer to God, like everyone.
- 19:40It doesn't. They still have to answer to God
- 19:42at the end of it. And the believers security, our
- 19:46security blanket so to speak, is not in the Parliament in
- 19:51Canberra or the Parliament in Westminster.
- 19:54Our security is in Christ and what He tells us and what He did
- 19:59for us. So, so if someone you know a
- 20:02Christian out there is feeling they're listening and they do
- 20:05feel anxious, what would you, what would you say to them then?
- 20:11OK, firstly I would tell them to turn off the noise, stop the
- 20:17distractions around them because they the the dark 1 uses those
- 20:22distractions to to lure us away or to to tempt us with other
- 20:26things. Open your Bible people and pray
- 20:29for discernment that overall, don't let fear shape your
- 20:35worldview. Let scripture shape it.
- 20:39And remember that prophecy is meant to prepare us for what's
- 20:45coming, not terrify us to what's coming.
- 20:49Yeah, that's good. That's good, man.
- 20:50That's, that's really good. Thanks.
- 20:55Not a worry. It has to be J The Church has
- 20:58survived Rome King's revolutions and ideological movements, and
- 21:03one of those ideological movements is still being pushed
- 21:06massively today about turning from truth altogether,
- 21:12biological truth, scientific truth.
- 21:15But they don't realize they've already lost this battle.
- 21:18Christianity will survive this era as it has through all the
- 21:24eras. And the question is, will we
- 21:26stand faithfully in our generation?
- 21:30With regards to the future generations, the way they're
- 21:33going, we can only pray for them.
- 21:37Mate, thanks very much for saying all that.
- 21:39Listen, how encourage anyone listening to this please follow
- 21:44Brian, what's your channel? Please give you a plug for your
- 21:47channel on that. Please mate.
- 21:50It's at Man of Faith Ministries on YouTube.
- 21:55Man of Faith Ministries on YouTube and I see all your
- 21:58shorts and that quite a bit. What are you focusing on at the
- 22:01moment? I'm doing a series on Ezekiel
- 22:07and how the book of Ezekiel actually talks to how people are
- 22:14being deceived by organisations, by things groups in our society
- 22:22that's trying. They say they're for for set
- 22:27purposes, but what they are is actually leading people away
- 22:30from the goodness of scripture, the goodness of God and the
- 22:34Ezekiel's a very a book that's full of wisdom when it comes to
- 22:40things like that. I speak mainly in the in the
- 22:45context of things like Freemasonry, how we can't or
- 22:51anything that's done in secret where the people don't know what
- 22:56the end game is, the initiates don't know what the end game is.
- 23:01They need to be wary of that and the Christians especially.
- 23:06Nice. OK mate.
- 23:08Thanks very much for joining me today.
