- Lucas: Luna, benvenuta! Welcome back to Learn Italian with Fexingo. Ready for another little adventure? Luna: Sempre! Always. Last time we were describing a squirrel. That was so fun. Lucas: It was. And today I thought we'd stay in the park but look a little higher up. Maybe something that flutters. Luna: Oh, butterflies? I love butterflies. How do you say butterfly in Italian? Lucas: La farfalla. Listen: la farfalla. Luna: La farfalla. La farfalla. That's pretty. Lucas: It is. And what do butterflies have? Wings. In Italian, an individual wing is l'ala. But usually we talk about both wings together: le ali. Luna: Le ali. So la farfalla has le ali. Got it. Lucas: Exactly. And we can describe them. Say: le ali sono colorate. The wings are colorful. Luna: Le ali sono colorate. Le ali sono colorate. That's a nice sentence. Lucas: It is. Now what does a butterfly do? It flies. Vola. La farfalla vola. The butterfly flies. Luna: La farfalla vola. So simple. Lucas: And if you see a beautiful one, you can say: che bella farfalla! What a beautiful butterfly! Luna: Che bella farfalla! Oh, I want to use that. Lucas: Let's put it all together. Imagine we're at the park. I see a butterfly. I say: Guarda! Una farfalla! Luna: Guarda! Una farfalla! Okay, and then I say: Che bella farfalla! Lucas: Yes! And then you can add: Le ali sono colorate. La farfalla vola. Luna: Le ali sono colorate. La farfalla vola. That's a whole little scene. Lucas: It is. Let's practice the words once more: la farfalla. Luna: La farfalla. Lucas: L'ala, le ali. Luna: L'ala, le ali. Lucas: Colorato, colorata, colorate. Luna: Colorato, colorata, colorate. Okay, so le ali sono colorate. Lucas: Perfetto. And vola. Luna: Vola. La farfalla vola. Lucas: That's it. You've got them. Now, a quick honest thing. If Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with Italian, a handful of listeners chip in monthly through buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo, and that's literally what funds making this many of these. So if it's useful, that's where you can support. Luna: Yeah, it keeps the show ad-free and lets us keep doing these little park walks. We appreciate it. Lucas: Alright, back to our butterfly. So imagine you're sitting on a bench, and a butterfly lands near you. What would you say? Luna: Oh, I'd say: Oh! Una farfalla! Che bella farfalla! Le ali sono colorate e la farfalla vola via! Lucas: Brava! Vola via — that means flies away. We didn't teach that but you added it naturally. Luna: Vola via. I like that. So la farfalla vola via. Lucas: Yes. So we have: la farfalla, le ali sono colorate, la farfalla vola, che bella farfalla, and vola via. Luna: That's five phrases. I can remember those. Lucas: Let's do a quick review. How do you say butterfly? Luna: La farfalla. Lucas: Wings? Luna: Le ali. Lucas: The wings are colorful? Luna: Le ali sono colorate. Lucas: The butterfly flies? Luna: La farfalla vola. Lucas: What a beautiful butterfly? Luna: Che bella farfalla! Lucas: Perfetto. Practice those on your next walk. And practice these till we chat again. Luna: Grazie, Lucas! Ciao ciao! Lucas: Ciao ciao!
