- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, there's always plenty happening around the place, and in
- 0:03Speaker 1: a really good news story, I think you'd say, and
- 0:05Speaker 1: the first for innovative technology will to support those who
- 0:09Speaker 1: are doing it tough in remote Australian communities. We know
- 0:13Speaker 1: that orange Sky, supported by Australian electronics manufacturer and a
- 0:18Speaker 1: global visual communications platform, they've launched the world's first solar
- 0:23Speaker 1: powered laundry van. And joining me on the line to
- 0:26Speaker 1: tell us a little bit more about it is the
- 0:28Speaker 1: co founder of orange Sky, Nicholas MARQUESI good morning to you.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Nicholas, good morning.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Great to have you on the show. I know that
- 0:38Speaker 1: Orange Sky do some phenomenal stuff. But for those out
- 0:41Speaker 1: there listening this morning who maybe don't know a huge
- 0:43Speaker 1: amount about orange Sky, tell us exactly what you do.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Yeah. So, orange Sky started seven years ago in Brisbane
- 0:50Speaker 2: with a really crazy idea to put two washing machines
- 0:53Speaker 2: and two drives in the back of a van and
- 0:54Speaker 2: simply drive around and wash and dry clothes for free.
- 0:57Speaker 2: And what we stumbled on those couple of years ago
- 1:00Speaker 2: was something that hadn't been done anywhere in the world,
- 1:02Speaker 2: but something that did much more than washing and dry clothes.
- 1:05Speaker 2: That provide an opportunity that while the washing was on,
- 1:08Speaker 2: people could come together and connect. And we're now fortunate
- 1:11Speaker 2: to have thirty six services and twenty five locations around
- 1:14Speaker 2: Australia and now launching one of our u S vehicle variants,
- 1:17Speaker 2: the RV three point zero projects.
- 1:19Speaker 1: And obviously you know these services are provided in the
- 1:23Speaker 1: washing machine in the van and the dryer. It means
- 1:27Speaker 1: that those who are maybe doing it tough, or living
- 1:29Speaker 1: on the streets or living rough really have the opportunity
- 1:33Speaker 1: to clean their clothes and to claim what they've.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Got absolutely and you know, access to health hardware is
- 1:40Speaker 2: something that you know a lot of people take for
- 1:42Speaker 2: granted and whether that be one and two hundred Australians
- 1:45Speaker 2: who spent their first nine on the street or through
- 1:48Speaker 2: remote situations don't have access to reliable help hardware. So
- 1:52Speaker 2: you know, chucking some really great machines in a van,
- 1:55Speaker 2: getting it powered by the Australian sun, and putting some
- 1:58Speaker 2: really great technology like hot water and detergent into those machines,
- 2:02Speaker 2: we're able to really support those holistic approaches to healthy communities.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Now, so tell us a little bit more about the
- 2:10Speaker 1: fact that you've been supported by a couple of different
- 2:13Speaker 1: organizations or different businesses and what it means that it's
- 2:17Speaker 1: going to be the first of the world's first solar
- 2:21Speaker 1: powered laundry van. Who are you teaming up with and
- 2:23Speaker 1: how exactly is it working.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Yeah, So we've been absolutely blown away with the extraordinary
- 2:28Speaker 2: support of red Arc Electronics and canber and both those
- 2:31Speaker 2: organizations have enabled this project to go ahead. So through
- 2:34Speaker 2: Canvas funding two of the vehicles and red Ark through
- 2:37Speaker 2: all of the vehicles being our national power provider. What
- 2:40Speaker 2: it means is that we've had to invent our own
- 2:42Speaker 2: closed dryer, the Wararu dryer, and those dryers is ninety
- 2:45Speaker 2: percent less electrical energy than any dryer out there on
- 2:48Speaker 2: the market. So what that means is that we've we
- 2:51Speaker 2: can now run on renewable power through solar power and
- 2:54Speaker 2: battery technology, which means that for the first time ever,
- 2:57Speaker 2: our vans are actually generating the power that they use
- 3:00Speaker 2: and having a much less impact on the environment.
- 3:03Speaker 1: And they're going to be visiting will two territory towns,
- 3:05Speaker 1: Maningrida and what Air.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Absolutely we've been running a service in Maningrida for over
- 3:11Speaker 2: a year and a half now and I'm absolutely thankful
- 3:13Speaker 2: for the community trusting us with the service there, working
- 3:17Speaker 2: with Lala Help and over in What Air working with
- 3:20Speaker 2: TDC over the last couple of months to provide a
- 3:22Speaker 2: service there, and we hope to continue to see Orange
- 3:25Speaker 2: Sky services grow around the country and around the NT
- 3:28Speaker 2: to help as many people as possible.
- 3:30Speaker 1: I reckon it's awesome and I would imagine pretty popular
- 3:33Speaker 1: as well when you are out in the likes of Maningrida.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Yeah. Absolutely. You know, all of us need clean clothes
- 3:39Speaker 2: and wherever we are around the world and important, so
- 3:42Speaker 2: you know, having some nice clothes that do keep us healthy,
- 3:46Speaker 2: that do keep us feeling good mentally as well, is
- 3:48Speaker 2: really important to wherever you are in the world.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Well, Nicholas, I really appreciate your time this morning and
- 3:53Speaker 1: telling us a bit more about the great work obviously
- 3:55Speaker 1: that Orange Sky does, but also this really innovative way
- 4:00Speaker 1: you're now doing things.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Thank you for sharing our story.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Yeah, good stuff. Thank you, Thanks so much for your time.
