- 0:12Speaker 1: This is Heartwives, offering practical tips and time proven guidelines
- 0:16Speaker 1: to make your life healthier, happier, and more fulfilling. Today
- 0:20Speaker 1: you'll learn simple, Bible based principles for building and maintaining
- 0:24Speaker 1: optimum mental and physical health, all while deepening your relationship
- 0:28Speaker 1: with your creator. Here's your Heartwise host, doctor James markham.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Well, we want to welcome everyone to Heartwise today and
- 0:41Speaker 2: each week we talk about different aspects of medicine and healing.
- 0:45Speaker 2: We talk about the place where modern medicine is needed.
- 0:48Speaker 2: We talk about lifestyle changes, we talk about the relationship
- 0:52Speaker 2: with our heavenly father. Well, recently, I was talking to
- 0:56Speaker 2: a patient in the office the other day and I
- 0:58Speaker 2: was talking about you know, where does health come from?
- 1:00Speaker 2: And you know, your health comes from your genetics, who
- 1:03Speaker 2: your mom and dad are, and unfortunately you can't change that.
- 1:07Speaker 2: It comes from the good food you eat which makes
- 1:09Speaker 2: you healthy. We talked about antioxidants a few weeks ago,
- 1:12Speaker 2: and also comes from the bad foods you eat, which
- 1:14Speaker 2: can damage your body. We've talked about health comes from
- 1:17Speaker 2: our exercise, our movement programs, and how much we rest,
- 1:21Speaker 2: but more and more we're learning that what changes your
- 1:24Speaker 2: chemistry also is the way we think, the way our
- 1:28Speaker 2: brain works. We've talked to people all over the United
- 1:31Speaker 2: States that are now doing researches that shows it certain
- 1:34Speaker 2: things that can harm our chemistry. In the heart world,
- 1:37Speaker 2: we've talked about the broken heart syndrome. When we see
- 1:40Speaker 2: someone that dies suddenly, all the adrenaline we know that depression,
- 1:44Speaker 2: people that watch Violet TV, people that are hurt, it
- 1:48Speaker 2: turns on their limbic system, which makes a lot of
- 1:50Speaker 2: stress chemistry. So it only makes sense it heart wise
- 1:54Speaker 2: to start dealing with that as well. And a lot
- 1:56Speaker 2: of people don't think about a prescription pill, they think
- 1:59Speaker 2: that's medicine. They think exercise, that's messine. But also when
- 2:02Speaker 2: we change our relationship, that's part of the healing process too.
- 2:07Speaker 2: That's part of medicine. And today on Heartwise, we've got
- 2:10Speaker 2: a wonderful guest on Brenda Walsh, and Brenda has a
- 2:13Speaker 2: wonderful ministry and she's going to tell us. Her website
- 2:18Speaker 2: is Brenda Walsh dot com where you can learn more
- 2:21Speaker 2: about her. She's also going to be a regular on
- 2:23Speaker 2: Heartwise and also on our website, helping specifically women to
- 2:27Speaker 2: have better relationships with their God, with each other and
- 2:31Speaker 2: overcome some of these chemical things that can damage people chemistry. Brenda,
- 2:36Speaker 2: we want to welcome you to Heartwise.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Thank you, doctor Markham. It's the privilege to be with
- 2:41Speaker 3: you today.
- 2:42Speaker 2: And you know we'd like you to start. You know,
- 2:44Speaker 2: I know we can't go into all of that. You know,
- 2:46Speaker 2: we've got a couple programs where we'd like to develop
- 2:48Speaker 2: this concept of healing through relationships and overcoming difficulties. But
- 2:54Speaker 2: just tell us a little bit about your story today.
- 2:58Speaker 3: Sure, I was in family with five children and a
- 3:03Speaker 3: very christ centered home. I had wonderful Christian parents and honestly,
- 3:09Speaker 3: no one could ever ask for a better childhood upbringing.
- 3:12Speaker 3: But unfortunately, when doesn't matter what upbringing you have, you
- 3:17Speaker 3: reach a point in your adult life that it comes
- 3:20Speaker 3: down to your own choices and you reach the consequences
- 3:23Speaker 3: of those choices. And when I was eighteen, I chose
- 3:26Speaker 3: the past God didn't choose for me, and that one
- 3:31Speaker 3: decision alone almost costs in my life because I found
- 3:34Speaker 3: myself in a very horrible domestic violence marriage and I
- 3:43Speaker 3: actually wrote a book about it called Battered to Bless,
- 3:46Speaker 3: where I know there isn't going to be time to
- 3:48Speaker 3: tell my story so that if somebody wanted to hear
- 3:51Speaker 3: the story, because that book is so full of healing,
- 3:55Speaker 3: because really, honestly, Jesus is the only healer of hearts.
- 3:58Speaker 3: And I found myself, you know, right out of high school.
- 4:01Speaker 3: I was encouraged by the Kentucky Pageant to participate in
- 4:09Speaker 3: the Miss Kentucky Beauty Pageant. My parents begged me not
- 4:14Speaker 3: to do it, and I thought, at eighteen, I knew
- 4:17Speaker 3: more than they did. My dad kept saying, you know,
- 4:19Speaker 3: there's this, there's now anything about that that's going to
- 4:22Speaker 3: glorify God, and and I went ahead because I was
- 4:27Speaker 3: eighteen and I just felt like I knew more than
- 4:29Speaker 3: my parents. And it was at that pageant that my
- 4:32Speaker 3: ex husband was there. He was a police officer doing
- 4:36Speaker 3: extra duty there for extra money, and he bragged to
- 4:41Speaker 3: his friends that he was going to get a date
- 4:44Speaker 3: with me, and they laughed at him. When I walked
- 4:47Speaker 3: down that runway in my bathing suit for the Beauty
- 4:49Speaker 3: part Suit bathing suit competition, he bragged to his friends
- 4:55Speaker 3: that he was going to get a date and and
- 4:57Speaker 3: I told him, I mean they told him. He told
- 5:01Speaker 3: them that he would and they laughed at him, and
- 5:02Speaker 3: he said okay, twenty dollars says not I'll love only
- 5:05Speaker 3: get a date, I'll marry her. Oh wow. And so
- 5:08Speaker 3: you know, so that began really my downfall that had
- 5:13Speaker 3: I not participated even in that pageant, I would have
- 5:17Speaker 3: never ended up into the marriage that I ended up in,
- 5:20Speaker 3: because it was there that he saw me and he
- 5:23Speaker 3: set about really to go after he even moved into
- 5:29Speaker 3: an apartment right across the hall from where my sister
- 5:31Speaker 3: and her husband were living. And that's where I was
- 5:33Speaker 3: staying with my sister at the time. Wow, during the summer,
- 5:38Speaker 3: and so you know, I was working as a student nurse,
- 5:41Speaker 3: and I was working at a drug and alcohol rehab center,
- 5:46Speaker 3: and I didn't know there's not time to go through
- 5:49Speaker 3: all the details, but because of the series events and
- 5:52Speaker 3: nurses not showing up and my nursing supervisor giving me
- 5:54Speaker 3: sleeping pills so that I could sleep during the day
- 5:57Speaker 3: and come back and work a double shift because you know,
- 6:00Speaker 3: there wasn't enough nurses covering, and then I ended up
- 6:03Speaker 3: in a very short amount of time getting very addicted
- 6:05Speaker 3: to sleeping pills. And it was on one of those
- 6:09Speaker 3: evenings that she'd have me take sleeping pills before I
- 6:11Speaker 3: left work, and then by the time I got home,
- 6:14Speaker 3: which is less than fifteen minute drive, you know, they
- 6:16Speaker 3: would start to take their toll on me and i'd
- 6:19Speaker 3: be able to go to sleep and you know, come
- 6:21Speaker 3: back and do it all over again. Well, it was
- 6:24Speaker 3: during that night that I was actually able to leave
- 6:30Speaker 3: work and go home. Then my ex husband pulled me
- 6:33Speaker 3: over in his police car, and through a series of
- 6:37Speaker 3: events that followed, I found myself. He tricked me, and
- 6:41Speaker 3: I found myself. You know, he asked me to come
- 6:44Speaker 3: in and listen to music in his apartment, which you know,
- 6:46Speaker 3: I know I should have as a Christian girl, know
- 6:48Speaker 3: I should have never been in a man's apartment alone
- 6:50Speaker 3: at any time, But I did. I passed out in
- 6:53Speaker 3: the department and woke up the next morning in his sack,
- 6:56Speaker 3: and he told me that we had, you know, had sex.
- 7:02Speaker 3: And I had never even enjoyed a long kids with
- 7:04Speaker 3: the man before. I had didn't. I was so green
- 7:06Speaker 3: and so naive that I didn't know how that even happened,
- 7:10Speaker 3: and and so I believed him, and I was so humiliated.
- 7:14Speaker 3: And I also believed that if if a man and
- 7:19Speaker 3: wife were intimate, or a woman and asked you know,
- 7:21Speaker 3: a man were intimate, that they were married, and God dies,
- 7:24Speaker 3: so regardless of whether there was a you know, I
- 7:29Speaker 3: felt like I really had no other choice. But I
- 7:31Speaker 3: was going to have to marry him, because you know,
- 7:33Speaker 3: I was already married in God's eyes. I was so devastated.
- 7:36Speaker 3: I pleaded with God just to let me die. I mean,
- 7:39Speaker 3: I was so but I also because of pride, Doctor
- 7:42Speaker 3: mark them. You know, Pride even announced the bridal separators
- 7:45Speaker 3: from Jesus. And I was so filled with pride. I thought, well,
- 7:47Speaker 3: if I have to marry this man anyway, and and
- 7:50Speaker 3: why does anybody have to know what a horrible, despicable
- 7:54Speaker 3: person I was that I'd ended up in Another man said,
- 7:57Speaker 3: and so I thought. I went about this whole thing
- 8:00Speaker 3: praying and praying and praying, asking God to help me,
- 8:02Speaker 3: asking how to save me, and then I was figuring
- 8:05Speaker 3: out how God she answered that prayer, and we both
- 8:07Speaker 3: know that that prayer just doesn't work that way. But
- 8:11Speaker 3: but I had, you know, decided the course of action
- 8:14Speaker 3: that the best thing to do since I had to
- 8:15Speaker 3: marry him anyway. It was just act like everybody, I
- 8:17Speaker 3: was in love with him and that it was going
- 8:20Speaker 3: to be a marriage that was going to be fine,
- 8:21Speaker 3: and and somehow I'd find a way to love this man.
- 8:24Speaker 3: I didn't even know him. I only know him two weeks. Wow,
- 8:27Speaker 3: and so and so I ended up when you know,
- 8:31Speaker 3: I ended up married to this man that I didn't even.
- 8:34Speaker 2: Know at eight at eighteen, Brenda at eighteen.
- 8:37Speaker 3: And it was on my wedding night that I found
- 8:40Speaker 3: out that I had been a virgin all along, Oh my,
- 8:43Speaker 3: And it was the most devastating, you know, discovery, and
- 8:49Speaker 3: and in the you know, you know, in the aftermath,
- 8:52Speaker 3: and it was such a brutal event. And there's a
- 8:55Speaker 3: horrible situation that happened. And I can remember just picking
- 9:00Speaker 3: myself up off the floor and dragging myself to the
- 9:03Speaker 3: bathroom and just crying and crying. And I stood at
- 9:06Speaker 3: the bathroom door from minute and he was laughing hysterically
- 9:09Speaker 3: on the back and said, I said, what are you
- 9:12Speaker 3: laughing at? And he said, because you're so blankety blank stupid.
- 9:16Speaker 3: And he said, you really felt for that, And I said,
- 9:19Speaker 3: can you tell me that? Why when you had me
- 9:23Speaker 3: naked in a bed next to you, why didn't you
- 9:25Speaker 3: take advantage of me then when you could clearly could
- 9:28Speaker 3: have and he set up on the edge of the
- 9:31Speaker 3: bed long enough to just look at me like I
- 9:33Speaker 3: was really an idiot and say, because you're just not
- 9:37Speaker 3: blank and worth it. He said, you think I'd lose
- 9:39Speaker 3: my badge for you? And I mean that was the
- 9:42Speaker 3: beginning of the downward spiral. So I found myself just
- 9:47Speaker 3: thinking lower and lower and lower, and I reached the
- 9:52Speaker 3: point every single day I prayed that God would take me.
- 9:55Speaker 3: I just prayed that he I was And of course
- 9:58Speaker 3: that's always the tower's way out. It's just you want
- 10:01Speaker 3: release and you want a waste and the pain. But
- 10:04Speaker 3: I mean, he shortly after we were married, he was
- 10:08Speaker 3: promoted to that promotion that he's been wanting for so long.
- 10:11Speaker 3: He was a Kentucky State Police officer, and now he was.
- 10:15Speaker 3: He finally got that job he had applied for and
- 10:17Speaker 3: had been wanting.
- 10:18Speaker 2: With uh, Brenda, Brenda, I'm going to stop you right here,
- 10:22Speaker 2: because we're going to come right back after this break
- 10:24Speaker 2: and continue this most interesting story. Listeners, stay with Us're
- 10:28Speaker 2: going to be right back.
- 10:43Speaker 1: In his book The Ultimate Prescription, now available from Tyndale
- 10:47Speaker 1: House Publishers, cardiologist doctor James Markham writes, I was reading
- 10:51Speaker 1: a recent poll of men who were asked who they
- 10:54Speaker 1: thought was the most influential male in the world today.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Number one on the list was Don Draper acharacter on
- 11:00Speaker 1: a television series He's Not Even a Real person. Number
- 11:03Speaker 1: two was Usain Bolton, Olympic athlete who many believe defines
- 11:07Speaker 1: the true spirit of competition, and President Barack Obama slipped
- 11:10Speaker 1: in his number three. This is just another example of
- 11:13Speaker 1: how the media has the power to create an influential character,
- 11:17Speaker 1: market him as an ideal to the world, and affect
- 11:20Speaker 1: the minds of a large segment of the population. That
- 11:23Speaker 1: same media is doing the same thing when it comes
- 11:26Speaker 1: to telling us how to build and maintain optimum health.
- 11:30Speaker 1: Doctor Markham's book The Ultimate Prescription is available from Amazon
- 11:33Speaker 1: dot com and wherever quality books are sold. To learn
- 11:37Speaker 1: more about health from a Biblical perspective, visit Heartwisemanistries dot org.
- 11:43Speaker 1: I'd like to take a moment to invite you to
- 11:44Speaker 1: visit the Heartwise Ministries team on the internet. Stop by
- 11:48Speaker 1: Heartwisemistries dot org and discover for yourself that optimum health
- 11:52Speaker 1: is not the result of favorable genes of the right
- 11:54Speaker 1: combination of pharmaceuticals. No Optimum health is the result of
- 11:58Speaker 1: making the right choice is each and every moment of
- 12:01Speaker 1: each and every day. If you're like me, you're probably
- 12:04Speaker 1: a little confused about what the media and marketing moguls
- 12:07Speaker 1: are feeding us. There are a lot of potions, pills
- 12:09Speaker 1: and promises out there. Some work, some don't, and some
- 12:13Speaker 1: are downright dangerous. Whom do you believe? Whom do you trust?
- 12:17Speaker 1: Board certified cardiologist doctor James Markham, founder director of Heartwise Ministries, says,
- 12:21Speaker 1: there is a source of information that can be trusted
- 12:24Speaker 1: and followed. That's the Bible, God's Owner's Manual as he
- 12:29Speaker 1: calls it. For us, all the information you find on
- 12:32Speaker 1: Heartwiseministries dot org is information backed by biblical truth. It
- 12:36Speaker 1: can be trusted because God can be trusted. So stop by,
- 12:40Speaker 1: won't you? That's Heartwiseministries dot org.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Welcome back to Heartwise. We're talking today with Brenda Walsh
- 12:54Speaker 2: and she has a wonderful story that she's telling us.
- 12:57Speaker 2: And we found out the first segment that she was
- 13:00Speaker 2: an aspiring nursing student, made some bad decisions, got married
- 13:05Speaker 2: at a very young age, married to a policeman. Brenda,
- 13:08Speaker 2: continue your story here. You left us when he was
- 13:11Speaker 2: part of the police force. Just continue the story.
- 13:14Speaker 3: Yes, and he had just been promoted to FBI. He
- 13:17Speaker 3: was putting the narcotics division, and the good news was
- 13:20Speaker 3: that it kept him farther, you know, I'm farther away
- 13:24Speaker 3: from home and a longer periods of times. But when
- 13:26Speaker 3: he did come home, it was it was very violent.
- 13:29Speaker 3: The violence as violence actually started right away. And it's
- 13:33Speaker 3: always about of control, you know, it's a they control
- 13:37Speaker 3: your mind. And pretty soon everything was my fault, not
- 13:39Speaker 3: only in his mind, but my mind too. And not
- 13:45Speaker 3: long after we were married, I got pregnant, and there
- 13:49Speaker 3: was just so many things, doctor Markham, that I could
- 13:52Speaker 3: share that there just wasn't time to share. But I
- 13:54Speaker 3: can tell you that there was a really a really
- 13:58Speaker 3: violent and see there was a time when I was
- 14:01Speaker 3: kicked down the flight of stairs and hospitalized, that didn't
- 14:04Speaker 3: know if the baby would live. The times that, you know,
- 14:07Speaker 3: if he would drade me out to a shooting range
- 14:09Speaker 3: and make me stand on the target and he'd shoot
- 14:11Speaker 3: all around me, you know, until I would just beg
- 14:13Speaker 3: him to go ahead and just kill oh. And it's
- 14:17Speaker 3: you know, it's amazing to me how much God protected
- 14:25Speaker 3: me with even with my prayers that I was praying,
- 14:29Speaker 3: and I wasn't even praying the right way because I
- 14:31Speaker 3: was praying such a coward perer most of the time
- 14:34Speaker 3: of God, just please let me die, Please let me die.
- 14:36Speaker 3: I dream about ways I could just die. And then
- 14:40Speaker 3: once my child was born, I wanted to live. I
- 14:43Speaker 3: couldn't imagine leading this child in this world without him.
- 14:46Speaker 3: And I tell the story in my book of you know,
- 14:49Speaker 3: when Becky was just Becky's, my daughter, and when she
- 14:52Speaker 3: was just four days old, I had just come home
- 14:54Speaker 3: from the hospital and had gotten her tucked into bed,
- 14:58Speaker 3: and I tell the story where to ask, you know,
- 15:01Speaker 3: just four days old? And you know, he raped me
- 15:04Speaker 3: so so horribly, so violently that I mean it literally
- 15:08Speaker 3: ripped all my stitches out, if you can imagine how
- 15:10Speaker 3: tender a woman that just had broth and has a pasiotomy.
- 15:13Speaker 3: And I nearly blood to death, and I pleaded and
- 15:16Speaker 3: prayed that God would save me. I'm bleeding out on
- 15:18Speaker 3: the bathroom floor. I've scot von Willibron's disease. I'm a
- 15:21Speaker 3: bleeder and so I'm sure you know about that. And
- 15:26Speaker 3: so my risk for death was even greater. And I
- 15:30Speaker 3: can remember him spitting in my face when I'm pleading
- 15:33Speaker 3: with him to take me to hospital. I said I'm
- 15:34Speaker 3: going to die, and he spit in my face and said,
- 15:37Speaker 3: I'm looking forward to seeing to look at death on
- 15:39Speaker 3: your face. And here, at one o'clock in the morning,
- 15:42Speaker 3: my sister Linda, who lived next door to me, wakes
- 15:45Speaker 3: up out of a sound sleep and pressed that I
- 15:47Speaker 3: need her runs across to my house, banging on the door.
- 15:51Speaker 3: Here in the middle of that. How many people would
- 15:53Speaker 3: turned around and see this block and see that it's
- 15:55Speaker 3: one in the morning, roll over and said, I'll call
- 15:57Speaker 3: it in the morning. But no, she's somebody that really
- 16:00Speaker 3: listen to God's voice. And it saved my life because
- 16:03Speaker 3: the minute that he answered the door, he was all, O,
- 16:07Speaker 3: Brinda just fell and hurt herself. I need to give
- 16:09Speaker 3: to the hospital. I was just getting ready to call you.
- 16:11Speaker 3: And so you see how God intervened over and over
- 16:15Speaker 3: and over. I share those kind of experiences in the book.
- 16:19Speaker 3: The really bad stuff isn't even in the book because
- 16:22Speaker 3: a reader wouldn't be able to get paid to God's
- 16:24Speaker 3: glory if they had to read through all that pain.
- 16:26Speaker 3: But I tell the story of how God allowed me
- 16:29Speaker 3: to even leave. He used my sister London a powerful
- 16:32Speaker 3: way to help me get out of that bad situation.
- 16:36Speaker 3: Really and truly, Jesus saved me. And it was never
- 16:39Speaker 3: his will that I'd be a dadded woman. It was
- 16:42Speaker 3: never his will that I suffer, and it's never any
- 16:44Speaker 3: his will that any of us should suffer. He wants
- 16:47Speaker 3: us to have life and have it more abundantly. But
- 16:50Speaker 3: I praised the Lord that he heard my christ, he
- 16:53Speaker 3: heard my prayer. He lifted me out of the depths
- 16:55Speaker 3: of despair. And I can tell you through my faith
- 17:00Speaker 3: in God, through his strength, through his healing power of healing,
- 17:07Speaker 3: he healed my heart. And I wouldn't be the person
- 17:11Speaker 3: I am today if it wasn't God in my life.
- 17:13Speaker 3: I don't know what people do that don't have God
- 17:15Speaker 3: in their life. And most people, doctor Markham would say
- 17:19Speaker 3: that somebody that went through everything that I went through
- 17:21Speaker 3: should be locked up in some middle home somewhere, or
- 17:24Speaker 3: on you know, psychotic drugs or something you know, to
- 17:26Speaker 3: get by. And I actually had a psychiatrist travel once
- 17:29Speaker 3: I was doing a concert tour in Brazil. He traveled
- 17:32Speaker 3: all eight hours to come up to meet me because
- 17:35Speaker 3: he had read my book and he said, I just
- 17:37Speaker 3: want to know. Tell me what are you on? He said,
- 17:39Speaker 3: because if you just shared it with me, I have
- 17:41Speaker 3: so many patients to be helped because you're so normal
- 17:43Speaker 3: and you're doing all these wonderful things for God. He said,
- 17:46Speaker 3: tell me what do you take? Are you on proback?
- 17:48Speaker 3: You know? Are you on you know? You need to
- 17:50Speaker 3: start listening to all these And I said, I'm not
- 17:52Speaker 3: taking anything and he said, he said, please, I didn't.
- 17:55Speaker 3: He says, I know it's the risk. He said, if
- 17:57Speaker 3: you just tell me, I won't even tell anybody that
- 18:00Speaker 3: you know that it's you. I just want to know
- 18:01Speaker 3: what's helping you. And I looked at him and I said,
- 18:03Speaker 3: I'm high on Jesus. And he was like, wow, Wow,
- 18:09Speaker 3: that's incredible. And the truth is most people probably would
- 18:12Speaker 3: think that to go about and do the things that
- 18:15Speaker 3: God is having me do today, that I would have
- 18:17Speaker 3: to be on some type of psych dregs or whatever.
- 18:20Speaker 3: But I can tell you that when Jesus heals, he
- 18:23Speaker 3: heals completely. And he really did come in and just
- 18:27Speaker 3: heal my heart. And I love the Lord with all
- 18:29Speaker 3: my heart. I know what he's done. I've seen his
- 18:31Speaker 3: power and I know that the healing power of faith. Yeah,
- 18:37Speaker 3: and it's it's a tremendous you know, it's a tremendous,
- 18:42Speaker 3: horrible thing that I went through. But God can pick
- 18:44Speaker 3: up the pieces of anyone's life. And you know, if
- 18:46Speaker 3: he can do that for me, he can do it
- 18:48Speaker 3: for anyone. And he can create and and help you
- 18:51Speaker 3: to be the person He created you to be. That's right,
- 18:53Speaker 3: It really starts with surrender.
- 18:55Speaker 2: We're speaking today with Brenda Wall She's written the book
- 18:58Speaker 2: Better to bless Than. That book can be found at
- 19:01Speaker 2: her website that's Brenda Walsh dot com. And we're talking
- 19:05Speaker 2: to Brenda and heartwives today and helping everyone realize it's
- 19:08Speaker 2: your brain relationships. It affects your chemistry. And I think
- 19:12Speaker 2: she's told what the anecdote, Brenda, you know you were young,
- 19:15Speaker 2: you lost all your dreams. What sort of what sort
- 19:18Speaker 2: of turned this thing around? Really it was, I guess
- 19:24Speaker 2: you had to leave the relationship, the bad relationship.
- 19:26Speaker 3: I'm getting relationship. Yeah. God helped me escape from the
- 19:30Speaker 3: bad relationship, and he used my sister in a very
- 19:34Speaker 3: powerful way to do it. And I had the awso
- 19:37Speaker 3: that just the love for my family and support from
- 19:40Speaker 3: my family, and I had my faith in God. It
- 19:45Speaker 3: was leaning on him and trusting in him. And every
- 19:47Speaker 3: time that the enemy would want to tell me what
- 19:49Speaker 3: a horrible stick off of person I was, God would
- 19:51Speaker 3: remind me that I was a child of the keys.
- 19:54Speaker 2: How long? How long were you in this abusive relationship?
- 19:59Speaker 3: I was actually there for just a little over a year,
- 20:04Speaker 3: And it was like I went into it as a
- 20:06Speaker 3: very naive little girl, and I kind of loved an
- 20:09Speaker 3: old woman, if that makes any sense, you know, because
- 20:12Speaker 3: I had to grow up really that bad and it
- 20:15Speaker 3: was a rude to and cruel awakening to how evil
- 20:18Speaker 3: this world can be. But I also know the power
- 20:21Speaker 3: of positive thinking. And I had a friend I tell
- 20:24Speaker 3: the story of the book that was a physician that
- 20:26Speaker 3: really he had seven different medical degrees. He was incredible,
- 20:30Speaker 3: and he worked with me so patiently to help me
- 20:34Speaker 3: understand the power of the mind. Really when that's what
- 20:38Speaker 3: I love about your ministry so much, because there really
- 20:41Speaker 3: I'm a living proof of that because I know every
- 20:44Speaker 3: time that I would hear he would help me know
- 20:47Speaker 3: he did. Now, there's going to be things, And even
- 20:49Speaker 3: at a conversation somewhere that someone's going to say something
- 20:52Speaker 3: and it's going to trigger a bad memory. And he said,
- 20:54Speaker 3: and what you do is you stomp that away. These
- 20:57Speaker 3: are the tools you could use to push that way.
- 21:00Speaker 3: Put that bad memory on the shelf, and you're never
- 21:02Speaker 3: going to take it down again. And he gave me
- 21:04Speaker 3: those little tools that your mind can do to help
- 21:07Speaker 3: you keep those bad things on the shelf. And I
- 21:09Speaker 3: don't take them off the shelf for any reason. You know,
- 21:12Speaker 3: the really really bad things that would be hard for
- 21:14Speaker 3: me to deal with every day, I just keep on
- 21:16Speaker 3: the shelf. And he told me the really the benefits.
- 21:20Speaker 3: He helped me learn the benefits of positive thinking. And
- 21:24Speaker 3: every time, he say, every time the enemy wants to
- 21:26Speaker 3: tell you what a bad person you are, he said,
- 21:29Speaker 3: you allow God to tell you what a great person
- 21:32Speaker 3: you are because you are a child of the team
- 21:36Speaker 3: of the universe.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Wow is one And.
- 21:38Speaker 3: That really it made a huge difference in my life.
- 21:41Speaker 2: You know, we have a couple of minutes here before
- 21:43Speaker 2: we finish up this program, but I want to let
- 21:46Speaker 2: our listeners know that Brenda Walsh is going to be
- 21:49Speaker 2: a part of our ministry at heartwise, and we're going
- 21:51Speaker 2: to have a place on our web page where you
- 21:54Speaker 2: can interact with her. And we understand that the brain
- 21:58Speaker 2: and relationships affects our stress chemical in our health overall.
- 22:02Speaker 2: And you might be someone out there that's struggling with
- 22:04Speaker 2: with bad relationships or abusive relationships. So Brenda, through her experience,
- 22:08Speaker 2: we're going to talk more about this in our next program,
- 22:11Speaker 2: is going to be able to share and help you.
- 22:13Speaker 2: And I want to invite you to go to her
- 22:15Speaker 2: website Brenda Walsh dot com. She's written this wonderful bestseller,
- 22:19Speaker 2: Blessed Batter to bless It, and she's working on many
- 22:22Speaker 2: more projects that will help not only ministry women, but
- 22:27Speaker 2: all this she's trying to change chemistry, not with pills,
- 22:31Speaker 2: but a whole different ways by changing our brain, the
- 22:34Speaker 2: changing your relationship, by strengthening the front part of our brain,
- 22:37Speaker 2: the prefrontal cortex, by decreasing the stress chemistry of the
- 22:41Speaker 2: brain that she knows firsthand. So so Brenda, I mean,
- 22:45Speaker 2: we just want to thank you so much and we're
- 22:48Speaker 2: going to you know, the next program, we're going to
- 22:50Speaker 2: talk about where where, where God has taken you from here,
- 22:55Speaker 2: what he's doing in your life, how he's leading, how
- 22:58Speaker 2: people can be a part of you, your ministry and
- 23:01Speaker 2: how you can continue to help others that might be
- 23:03Speaker 2: in the same boat. Out there. There might be listeners
- 23:06Speaker 2: that are experiencing the same thing, maybe not to such
- 23:09Speaker 2: a greater degree, but to a lesser degree, and want
- 23:12Speaker 2: to learn the steps that you've learned about how they
- 23:14Speaker 2: can come out of this and how they can connect
- 23:16Speaker 2: with the relationship which you can maybe keep them from
- 23:18Speaker 2: a dangerous health problem.
- 23:20Speaker 3: Absolutely so.
- 23:21Speaker 2: So listener, if you're with us, we want to invite
