- 0:01Speaker 1: Now we turn to the Breathat Advocate to read news
- 0:03Speaker 1: from Jackson and Breathett County. A reader today is Matt.
- 0:07Speaker 1: We will begin with the addition dated Wednesday, August nineteenth,
- 0:11Speaker 1: twenty twenty six, which has been donated to Radio I
- 0:14Speaker 1: by the publisher as a reminder. RADIOI is a reading

- 0:24Speaker 1: the front page. City awarded ten point nine million dollar
- 0:28Speaker 1: grant for a new sewer plant. Congressman Harold Rogers and
- 0:32Speaker 1: state leaders deliver over thirty million dollars for infrastructure projects
- 0:36Speaker 1: to eastern Kentucky. U S. Rep. Harold Hall Rogers Kentucky
- 0:41Speaker 1: District five joined state and local leaders at Hazard Community
- 0:45Speaker 1: and Technical College recently to deliver more than thirty million
- 0:48Speaker 1: dollars in federal funding for infrastructure projects in nine counties
- 0:53Speaker 1: across southeastern Kentucky, with the City of Jackson receiving the
- 0:57Speaker 1: largest portion in the amount of ten point nine million dollars.
- 1:01Speaker 1: The us DA r D project will help be the
- 1:05Speaker 1: last needed portion of funding that will replace the existing
- 1:08Speaker 1: wastewater treatment plant that was damaged in the July twenty
- 1:12Speaker 1: twenty two. Flood Water infrastructure is so important to rural Kentuckians,
- 1:17Speaker 1: and it's a priority for this administration. Today's announcement marks
- 1:21Speaker 1: the latest investment we've made to help eastern Kentucky rebuild
- 1:25Speaker 1: after the horrific flooding of twenty twenty two, said Travis Barton,
- 1:29Speaker 1: State Director for USDA Rural Development. Thanks to the leadership
- 1:34Speaker 1: of President Trump and Secretary Rollins, who will continue working
- 1:37Speaker 1: with water systems on projects big and small that will
- 1:40Speaker 1: improve the quality of life and economic prosperity in rural Kentucky.
- 1:45Speaker 1: I can't emphasize the importance of having this partnership between
- 1:48Speaker 1: the federal, state, and local levels enough. We've been able
- 1:52Speaker 1: to match federal money with state funds for some of
- 1:54Speaker 1: these projects to ensure they make it over the finish line,
- 1:56Speaker 1: said Senator Robert Steivers. Our Mountain community are stronger today
- 2:01Speaker 1: thanks to the continued support of Congressman Rogers and his
- 2:04Speaker 1: willingness to work with us on projects that strengthen our
- 2:07Speaker 1: entire region. According to the Kentucky Infrastructure Authority, total cost
- 2:13Speaker 1: of the new sewer plant is twenty three million, nine
- 2:16Speaker 1: hundred thousand dollars, with CDBGDR funding in the amount of
- 2:21Speaker 1: thirteen million, ARC of two million, and USDR grant of
- 2:25Speaker 1: eight point nine million, all listed as anticipated to fund
- 2:28Speaker 1: the project. The proposed project project is as follows according
- 2:33Speaker 1: to the Kentucky Infrastructure Authority, the existing water Treatment Plant
- 2:37Speaker 1: WWTP was constructed in the nineteen sixties and located on
- 2:41Speaker 1: a Highway fifteen, next to the north fork of the
- 2:44Speaker 1: Kentucky River and adjacent to the Pan Bowl Lake. This
- 2:47Speaker 1: project proposes to construct a new wastewater treatment plant with
- 2:51Speaker 1: modern equipment and a more efficient process. The existing plant
- 2:55Speaker 1: will need to be decommissioned. Once the new plant is constructed,
- 2:58Speaker 1: an existing sewer flow have been redirected to it. This
- 3:02Speaker 1: will add in an additional two lift stations, one at
- 3:05Speaker 1: the existing wastewater treatment plant and one off of Kentucky
- 3:08Speaker 1: two O five. The redirection of the sewer lines will
- 3:12Speaker 1: include six one thousand, sixty one hundred linear feet of
- 3:17Speaker 1: ten inch force main lines from the existing wastewater treatment
- 3:20Speaker 1: plant running north along Kentucky fifteen then turn southwest into
- 3:24Speaker 1: Shacks Branch. Additionally, two thousand linear feet of three inch
- 3:29Speaker 1: force main lines and thirty five hundred linear feet of
- 3:32Speaker 1: six inch gravity sewer pipe will run along Shack's Branch
- 3:36Speaker 1: and along Kentucky two O five, with twenty two man
- 3:39Speaker 1: halls installed in service laterals. The project will also require
- 3:43Speaker 1: an updated facility plan in generators. The new plant location
- 3:47Speaker 1: has been projected to be in Shack's Branch, but nothing
- 3:51Speaker 1: final on a location has been determined. Mistrial declared in
- 3:55Speaker 1: rape and sex abuse trial. The trial of Brethett County
- 3:58Speaker 1: man has ended in a mistrial. On the first day
- 4:00Speaker 1: of court, French Howard, aged forty nine, of Jackson, appeared
- 4:04Speaker 1: in Breathwick Circuit Court for his trial on a two
- 4:06Speaker 1: count indictment charging him with rape and sexual abuse abuse,
- 4:10Speaker 1: both on a child under twelve years of age. According
- 4:14Speaker 1: to an indictment issued by the Breathitt County Grand Jury
- 4:16Speaker 1: on February fourth, twenty twenty five, the alleged rape and
- 4:19Speaker 1: sexual abuse took place between September twenty sixth, twenty nineteen.
- 4:23Speaker 1: In September twenty sixth, twenty twenty a jury was seated
- 4:27Speaker 1: and testimony was taken, and by the end of the
- 4:29Speaker 1: first day a mistrial was declared due to the jury
- 4:32Speaker 1: being unable to come to a unanimous verdict. Jackson Police
- 4:37Speaker 1: officially awarded accreditation. Recently, the Jackson Police Department was officially
- 4:42Speaker 1: awarded accreditation through the Kentucky Association of Chiefs of Police.
- 4:46Speaker 1: The accreditation is a significant accomplishment and a reflection of
- 4:50Speaker 1: the hard work, dedication, and commitment of the entire JPD department.
- 4:55Speaker 1: KACP accreditation is a distinction not achieved by every law
- 4:59Speaker 1: enforcement agency. It allows law enforcement agencies to demonstrate compliance
- 5:03Speaker 1: with over one hundred fifty professional standards for effective operations.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Accreditation involves a self assessment, phase policy review, and an
- 5:11Speaker 1: on site inspection by a professional standards committee. Wolf Coal
- 5:17Speaker 1: Fire Department puts new rescue truck into service. Wolf Coal
- 5:20Speaker 1: Fire Department recently placed their brand new rescue and brush
- 5:23Speaker 1: truck into service. This dual purpose truck is a twenty
- 5:27Speaker 1: twenty six F four fifty equipped with a pump tank
- 5:30Speaker 1: and a wide array of rescue equipment that was custom
- 5:33Speaker 1: built for the department. The truck allows for ample storage
- 5:36Speaker 1: for future growth as the department expands the services they
- 5:39Speaker 1: provide the community. This truck is a great asset to
- 5:42Speaker 1: the department. Paired with a new engine and tanker that
- 5:45Speaker 1: was put into service last year, the fleet is now
- 5:47Speaker 1: back at full strength after it was wiped out by
- 5:50Speaker 1: the devastating twenty twenty two flood. This project was funded
- 5:54Speaker 1: in part by a USDA Disaster Recovery grant. I will

- 11:33Speaker 1: Thinking back when I was four or five years old,
- 11:35Speaker 1: all of us kids WoT all of us kids watched
- 11:38Speaker 1: a twelve inch black and white TV that only had
- 11:41Speaker 1: three channels. We all bathed in a small wash tub
- 11:44Speaker 1: and shared the bath water since it had to be
- 11:46Speaker 1: heated on a heating stove and going to the bathroom
- 11:49Speaker 1: involved walking barefoot on a dirt path. The brown gravy
- 11:53Speaker 1: and eggs tasted so much better cooked on the coal
- 11:55Speaker 1: and wood stove. Neighbors help neighbors without even being asked,
- 12:00Speaker 1: and didn't expect to be paid for helping, except for
- 12:03Speaker 1: a bowl of soup, beans and corn bread and a
- 12:05Speaker 1: glass of buttermilk. We played in the hills and waited
- 12:09Speaker 1: the creek barefoot without a worry, and you didn't have
- 12:12Speaker 1: to worry at night if you locked the front door
- 12:14Speaker 1: or not. The streets of Jackson were always busy, mostly
- 12:17Speaker 1: with people talking, laughing, and whittling and trading pocket knives.
- 12:21Speaker 1: When the eighties rolled around, the microwave oven and ten
- 12:24Speaker 1: foot satellite dishes were the best inventions ever made, along
- 12:28Speaker 1: with the washer and dryer. Those are great memories of

- 12:35Speaker 1: by Kathleen Abner. Hello, friends and neighbors. I hope that
- 12:39Speaker 1: you all are well. I know there are some that
- 12:41Speaker 1: have been experiencing heartache because of this. In the family
- 12:45Speaker 1: my heart is heavy for you all, and you're in
- 12:47Speaker 1: my prayers. We've also had a lot of storms this week.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Storms can come at us in many forms, such as
- 12:53Speaker 1: thunder and lightning, tornado, hurricane, earthquake, and other forms of
- 12:57Speaker 1: stores in our lives. That has nothing to do with
- 12:59Speaker 1: webs her. No matter what comes and goes, let us
- 13:02Speaker 1: hang on to the Lord and he will see us through.
- 13:06Speaker 1: He is faithful and he is full of love. God
- 13:09Speaker 1: is love. I don't know how you all are, but
- 13:12Speaker 1: I can speak for myself. When any of my friends
- 13:15Speaker 1: or loved ones are going through something, my heart is
- 13:17Speaker 1: heavy for them because my heart breaks as well. I've
- 13:20Speaker 1: made several trips to the funeral homes lately because of
- 13:22Speaker 1: a death, and some had passed away that I didn't
- 13:25Speaker 1: get to goat, and that's heartbreaking for me as well.
- 13:29Speaker 1: And please remember, when someone is grieving, it's not so
- 13:32Speaker 1: much what you say, but it's the fact that you're
- 13:34Speaker 1: there for them. Like the old saying goes that they
- 13:37Speaker 1: remember you being there, but they don't always remember what
- 13:40Speaker 1: you say. That is very true. Let's all just show
- 13:43Speaker 1: love and be there when someone is in need. We
- 13:45Speaker 1: can all be a smile and a kind word and
- 13:48Speaker 1: a shoulder to lean on. Senior Citizen News by Rich Bunton.

- 13:57Speaker 1: The Kentucky Extension Center got their heads together and decided
- 14:00Speaker 1: to honor us with a cook out here at the Center.
- 14:03Speaker 1: They provided everything, the meal, the drinks, and all the
- 14:07Speaker 1: fun we could stand. The Fire Department and Police Department
- 14:10Speaker 1: made their way to the good and gathered up enough
- 14:14Speaker 1: for all their crew. It must have been the aroma
- 14:16Speaker 1: that attracted so many. The Extension Center could not have
- 14:20Speaker 1: done a better job, as they had a good time,
- 14:22Speaker 1: it seemed in passing out the food. We had hamburgers,
- 14:25Speaker 1: hot dogs, baked beans, pasta salad, peach cobbler, and to
- 14:29Speaker 1: top it off, vanilla ice cream. Yum. Many stomachs were
- 14:32Speaker 1: feeling it when we finally put down the spoon and fork.
- 14:36Speaker 1: We would like to thank the following in individuals from
- 14:38Speaker 1: the Extension Center who took part in this great event. SHAWNA. Hayden,
- 14:42Speaker 1: Reed Graham, Katie Noble, Kelsey Sebastian, Heather Spencer, and I'm
- 14:47Speaker 1: sure the behind the scenes were many others that helped
- 14:49Speaker 1: out and were thankful for their help. As you go
- 14:52Speaker 1: through your day, take some time to be ever thankful
- 14:55Speaker 1: for what you have and try to make sure you
- 14:57Speaker 1: can help someone else have a good day at the center.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Are truly thankful for the Kentucky Extension Center in thinking
- 15:03Speaker 1: of us in such a thoughtful way. We wish to
- 15:06Speaker 1: extend God's blessing to all. Now come and visit with
- 15:09Speaker 1: us here at the Center and experience the joy of
