- 0:08Speaker 1: Well, I invited you.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Hear, I thought, I made myself perfectly clear, But you're.
- 0:17Speaker 3: A guess to my home.
- 0:21Speaker 2: You gotta come to me empty, And I said, no,
- 0:26Speaker 2: guess your own presences presence, and I already had too
- 0:33Speaker 2: much stuff.
- 0:35Speaker 3: So how did you dan to surbey me?
- 0:49Speaker 1: Welcome to I said, no gifts. I'm Richard Wineger. What's
- 0:54Speaker 1: going on? I started the day in a bad mood.
- 0:58Speaker 1: I went to bed in a bad mood. I tried
- 1:01Speaker 1: watching this thing called The Curious Case of Natalie Grace,
- 1:05Speaker 1: Natalia Grace, I don't know which. I thought was just
- 1:09Speaker 1: going to be thrilling and exciting, trashy documentary documentaries may
- 1:14Speaker 1: be generous, And then it was so horribly made that
- 1:18Speaker 1: I had stopped watching it, and I never learned whether
- 1:21Speaker 1: or not this couple accidentally adopted an evil thirty year old.
- 1:25Speaker 1: And so now I'm not even going to look into it.
- 1:28Speaker 1: I guess I just have to hopefully someone will just
- 1:31Speaker 1: mention to me what actually happened. But it was a
- 1:34Speaker 1: real piece of crap, and oh it set me off.
- 1:38Speaker 1: So I hate to start the podcast in this way.
- 1:41Speaker 1: And now I'm thinking about how the photo app is
- 1:44Speaker 1: still horrible on the iPhone. What's happening there? They haven't changed.
- 1:48Speaker 1: It's universally hated and they're just making a stick with it.
- 1:52Speaker 1: I don't try to start this with so much complaining,
- 1:55Speaker 1: but Natalia or Natalie Grace set me off. I'm sorry,
- 2:00Speaker 1: Let's get into the show. Maybe that will help things.
- 2:03Speaker 1: I adore today's guest. It's Mary Lynn Rice called Mary Lynn.
- 2:07Speaker 3: Oh, Hello, you said my last name correctly.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Your last name is so interesting. It's like, I mean,
- 2:14Speaker 1: if you weren't aware of how to pronounce it beforehand,
- 2:16Speaker 1: it would be a nightmare to get into. But once
- 2:20Speaker 1: you know, it's just two words.
- 2:21Speaker 3: I kind of like that. It's like, why don't you know?
- 2:25Speaker 3: How about you look out to it and then talk
- 2:28Speaker 3: to me and don't talk to me until then. Don't
- 2:31Speaker 3: don't come up to me with a.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Red Yeah, what do you get done with that?
- 2:35Speaker 3: We're done with that. Don't not try, don't give.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Up, don't give up. I think I and like, I'll
- 2:42Speaker 1: be a guest on podcasts occasionally, and it's just like,
- 2:45Speaker 1: certainly just look into it for thirty seconds, you'll know
- 2:47Speaker 1: how to pronounce my last name. You have the internet.
- 2:50Speaker 3: Weininger wind Wow, look well, I've heard you say that
- 2:53Speaker 3: I did a little you know how to spruce up.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Well. I have people in my life who still say Winneger,
- 2:58Speaker 1: winegar close.
- 3:00Speaker 3: I got scared as it was coming out of my mouth.
- 3:02Speaker 1: It was beautiful. I mean, it's the kind of the
- 3:05Speaker 1: last guess for the pronunciation of my name, which is
- 3:10Speaker 1: oh really, I mean, I guess whin a Ger makes sense,
- 3:12Speaker 1: Winegar makes sense, but it has that little speed bump
- 3:16Speaker 1: in the middle winegar, And wow.
- 3:19Speaker 3: Yours is almost harder than mine in a way. I
- 3:22Speaker 3: suddenly have compassion for what seems like a simpler name
- 3:26Speaker 3: but somehow is more complicated. There's three reasonable ways to
- 3:31Speaker 3: say it.
- 3:32Speaker 1: But I feel like with your name, once you've heard it,
- 3:34Speaker 1: once you get it.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Yes, but I have seen people, a lot of hosts.
- 3:40Speaker 3: I'll see them panic and I just go, just whatever
- 3:43Speaker 3: comes out of your mouth. That's fine, because the panic's
- 3:46Speaker 3: not going to help you. We all know that. But
- 3:47Speaker 3: once you panic, it goes too far right, And then
- 3:50Speaker 3: I appreciate those people even more because they're trying. You know,
- 3:53Speaker 3: What's how about a show with a host that doesn't
- 3:56Speaker 3: think the host is important? So I love people that
- 3:59Speaker 3: want want to say the name and then I and
- 4:01Speaker 3: then I go, hey, don't just sign, but yeah, I
- 4:05Speaker 3: have to give the the mnemonic rice and a cup
- 4:08Speaker 3: and then it's done. But if you get locked in
- 4:11Speaker 3: your brain in a certain way and you're not listening.
- 4:15Speaker 1: You're just imagining that word in your head.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Letters, which is understandable.
- 4:20Speaker 1: What you get most often a give up.
- 4:23Speaker 3: Or adding a syllable.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Oh sure, did you get telemarketers like some people.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Will confidently go is that uh you know Swedish and
- 4:34Speaker 3: the J is like an I. I'm like, slow down.
- 4:37Speaker 3: I don't even believe that the way that it's pronounced.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Is correct, like the actual origin.
- 4:43Speaker 3: Yes, I don't you know who knows?
- 4:46Speaker 1: That's always the same with me.
- 4:48Speaker 3: Right at the beginning of it, there was an e
- 4:51Speaker 3: added or there. Someone said it with three syllables, and
- 4:54Speaker 3: that's how it's done.
- 4:55Speaker 1: It was probably it probably was a vin like I'm
- 4:58Speaker 1: sure whatever country it came from, W was a V.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Right, and then maybe the middle was more smushed together.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Yeah originally smith.
- 5:09Speaker 3: Uh No.
- 5:10Speaker 1: I do think living with my entire mess of a
- 5:13Speaker 1: name has made me very I'm not sensitive, I'm not
- 5:16Speaker 1: precious at all. Because it's been butchered my entire life
- 5:19Speaker 1: first and last name. So when people get kind of
- 5:22Speaker 1: sensitive about their names, it's just like whatever, Yeah, who
- 5:26Speaker 1: cares your name.
- 5:26Speaker 3: Is very literary, isn't that?
- 5:32Speaker 1: I guess it's I mean, it's a name you don't
- 5:34Speaker 1: see very often. Two names you don't see at all. Yes,
- 5:38Speaker 1: although the thing with Bridger is it's just kind of
- 5:41Speaker 1: the masculine version of Bridget. But people cannot conceptualize that,
- 5:48Speaker 1: cannot handle Bridger for some reason, despite Bridget being like
- 5:52Speaker 1: the most common. Although I don't know many Bridgets. I
- 5:55Speaker 1: don't know one Bridget Bridget. I know of Bridge.
- 5:59Speaker 3: It's a great name.
- 6:00Speaker 1: It is a good name.
- 6:00Speaker 3: There should be more Bridgers. I'm glad there's not, because
- 6:03Speaker 3: there's only one you.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm trying to think of any other Bridges that
- 6:08Speaker 1: I am aware. I mean there are, Like we're having
- 6:11Speaker 1: a Bridger moment in kind of the zeitgeys because there's
- 6:16Speaker 1: Bridger ten right, voebe Bridgers right. Oh, and uh, there's
- 6:21Speaker 1: this new show called I can't remember the name of
- 6:24Speaker 1: the show, but they're going to Fort Bridger or they're
- 6:26Speaker 1: trying to. I've watched about ten minutes of the show,
- 6:29Speaker 1: so far. That's a place in Western Yeah, oh yeah,
- 6:34Speaker 1: there's a place in Wyoming called Fort Bridge, or maybe
- 6:37Speaker 1: maybe in Utah. I don't know.
- 6:39Speaker 3: How are you pretty fantastic? Pretty fantastic? I mean, I'd
- 6:46Speaker 3: like to complain too, just because it's fun. Sure, But
- 6:49Speaker 3: if I go beyond the complaining, I realize my life
- 6:53Speaker 3: is great.
- 6:54Speaker 1: You know what I want to complain about having a rush.
- 6:57Speaker 3: I'm to the point in my life where, I mean,
- 6:59Speaker 3: we all are to a certain extent, just because of
- 7:01Speaker 3: the circumstances of the world, where we're having to cut
- 7:05Speaker 3: things out and conserve energy so that we don't lose
- 7:09Speaker 3: our gd minds. We're having to consolidate check in with
- 7:15Speaker 3: our person so that we don't completely lose it. But
- 7:19Speaker 3: I'm also of an age and a point in my
- 7:23Speaker 3: life where.
- 7:25Speaker 1: I just don't rush me. You know who's rushing you?
- 7:31Speaker 3: Just life. That's a great question. Thank you for that.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Of my world lit teacher showing up on the first day,
- 7:40Speaker 3: going we've got a lot to get through, It's like,
- 7:43Speaker 3: who's got a lot to get through?
- 7:46Speaker 1: Would you stop?
- 7:47Speaker 3: I don't know if we're gonna make it. You're you're
- 7:49Speaker 3: in control.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Why am I stressed?
- 7:54Speaker 3: Before I even started, which, by the way, I might
- 7:58Speaker 3: have some sort of learning disability. I could not read.
- 8:01Speaker 3: I could not everything I read in Worldlit. Each word
- 8:05Speaker 3: seemed important to me, and I would I couldn't get through.
- 8:08Speaker 3: While others were discussing themes and topics, I was like,
- 8:12Speaker 3: what about the uh? I can't even come up with
- 8:15Speaker 3: an example. It's such a buried memory.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Do you feel like you're a slow reader in general?
- 8:21Speaker 3: I'm not a slow reader, I think, and I think
- 8:23Speaker 3: I can pinpoint when this happened in maybe this is
- 8:27Speaker 3: the answer to who's rushing me? I've just uncovered it.
- 8:29Speaker 3: When I was in seventh grade, they had this microfiche
- 8:33Speaker 3: machine to test your speed of reading. And I had
- 8:37Speaker 3: just had a hair gel incident that morning where I
- 8:40Speaker 3: tried to do something and it didn't work and I
- 8:43Speaker 3: had to leave the house. And I was too I
- 8:46Speaker 3: was already too damaged about it. I wasn't about to
- 8:49Speaker 3: put my head under the sink. So I had to
- 8:50Speaker 3: go with what happened. So I wore a hoodie and
- 8:53Speaker 3: then they made me take down the.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Hoodie reveal the crust.
- 8:57Speaker 3: I revealed the crust. They forced me to reveal the
- 9:00Speaker 3: crust and I went in the microfiche and it was
- 9:04Speaker 3: a to test the speed of your reading, and they
- 9:08Speaker 3: gave you the rules, which I couldn't I can't listen,
- 9:11Speaker 3: you know, but I think part of the rules were
- 9:14Speaker 3: somewhere in there was make sure you digest. They warned
- 9:19Speaker 3: you against, and I just did what they told you
- 9:21Speaker 3: not to do, which is I got through this really fast.
- 9:24Speaker 3: And to this day I think I love to read things,
- 9:29Speaker 3: but then at the end, I'll go what happened? And
- 9:32Speaker 3: even lately I think I need to test myself on
- 9:36Speaker 3: what I've read. Otherwise what's the point.
- 9:39Speaker 1: I would love for books to come with little quizzes,
- 9:43Speaker 1: or for there to be there probably is an app
- 9:45Speaker 1: that you can, like, after every chapter, quiz yourself for
- 9:48Speaker 1: a while, well after every chapter, because I, yeah, I'll
- 9:51Speaker 1: get through a thing and I'll be like, I might
- 9:53Speaker 1: be able to remember a character name. Okay, my reading
- 9:58Speaker 1: comprehension has ebbs destroyed.
- 10:01Speaker 3: And then you go and have your day and when
- 10:02Speaker 3: you come back to the book, which you think, oh,
- 10:05Speaker 3: I'm gonna and then I'm like, I don't remember what was.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Happening now what I've started doing. Just in the last
- 10:12Speaker 1: couple of months is when I'm done with the chapter,
- 10:15Speaker 1: I just try as hard as possible to remember everything.
- 10:19Speaker 1: What did I just read? I'm so excited I brought
- 10:23Speaker 1: this up. This is real. I think it's a real problem.
- 10:26Speaker 1: I think probably because our attention spends have really been decimated.
- 10:30Speaker 1: But I still want to read. But I also want
- 10:32Speaker 1: to read a lot, and so that all comes together
- 10:35Speaker 1: to me spending time looking at words and none of
- 10:38Speaker 1: them entering my brain. So I'm trying to get better
- 10:41Speaker 1: at that. But then recently, like at the end of
- 10:44Speaker 1: the year, there were all these people on TikTok that
- 10:45Speaker 1: were like end of the year list. I read twenty
- 10:48Speaker 1: four hundred books this year. What are you talking about?
- 10:52Speaker 3: I know, no, stop.
- 10:55Speaker 1: It's just the amount of books these people are reading.
- 10:57Speaker 3: I'm completely unlikable, I have no relationships. It sucking, asshole.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like I'm lucky if I read two
- 11:09Speaker 1: books a month, and I'm reading pretty regularly, but I'm
- 11:12Speaker 1: trying to slow down and actually make it count and
- 11:16Speaker 1: actually get something out of it. Otherwise, what's the point?
- 11:20Speaker 3: I love that.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Are you doing fiction or mostly fiction? Okay, although nonfiction
- 11:25Speaker 1: I find more and more is easier to get through
- 11:28Speaker 1: I don't know why. I guess because I like.
- 11:31Speaker 3: At least like it would be harder to get through.
- 11:33Speaker 1: I think I can convince myself that I'm learning, and
- 11:36Speaker 1: so I'm like, oh I can this is helpful to me.
- 11:38Speaker 1: And of course, like the subjects I'm reading about are
- 11:41Speaker 1: not useful in ordinary life at all.
- 11:43Speaker 3: So the things you may be more emotionally involved in,
- 11:47Speaker 3: or is that a sleep.
- 11:48Speaker 1: That might be? Yeah, it's a great question. And now
- 11:51Speaker 1: I'm trying to think of the last piece of nonfiction
- 11:53Speaker 1: I read, and I couldn't. What are you reading The Secret?
- 11:57Speaker 3: You read The Secret, but I'm.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Only only ever reading The Secret. I'm listening to it
- 12:04Speaker 1: on audio book.
- 12:06Speaker 3: Yeah, just trying to get it in there.
- 12:08Speaker 1: I'm visualizing the life I want.
- 12:12Speaker 3: When will I get the red bike in the window?
- 12:17Speaker 3: Turns out you never really wanted the red bike. You
- 12:21Speaker 3: were negating the red bike as you were saying yes
- 12:23Speaker 3: to the red bike?
- 12:26Speaker 1: Are you more of a fiction or nonfiction person?
- 12:28Speaker 3: I honestly am not a big reader reader. Would I
- 12:32Speaker 3: aspire to be a big reader? And I have a
- 12:35Speaker 3: friend comic Michelle Billoon.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Oh sure, sure.
- 12:39Speaker 3: We became friends sort of recently and we have a
- 12:43Speaker 3: Vigorous Voice memo, and early in the Voice Memos, we
- 12:48Speaker 3: decided we were going to start reading. So that's been
- 12:51Speaker 3: really fun, right, and we did. We did one whole
- 12:54Speaker 3: book together so far.
- 12:56Speaker 1: What book I already forgot Katherine, Catherine. It's about a girl, okay.
- 13:07Speaker 3: Who is in a forest and that there's sisters in
- 13:11Speaker 3: the Northwest. One of them is a beauty queen and
- 13:17Speaker 3: one of them is a psycholog ashamed child psychologist.
- 13:22Speaker 1: And then you haven't read this because it'll be so
- 13:24Speaker 1: mortifying that I don't remember anyone.
- 13:25Speaker 3: What's the We're about to read another one of her
- 13:28Speaker 3: books and I'm not remembering this. This is my brain
- 13:31Speaker 3: and I'm not remembering the author's name right this second.
- 13:33Speaker 1: It's not a terrifying it really is.
- 13:36Speaker 3: I hate it so much.
- 13:37Speaker 1: I wonder if it feels terrible.
- 13:39Speaker 3: It feels terrible.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Catherine. I can't think of a single.
- 13:44Speaker 3: She's a very popular, prolific, sometimes oftentorical.
- 13:49Speaker 1: And she doesn't go by Kathy.
- 13:51Speaker 3: No, definitely not Kathy. And it might not even be
- 13:54Speaker 3: Catherine at this point. I can't It's not in my
- 13:56Speaker 3: brain today. Oh not today, not today. I won't have
- 14:01Speaker 3: that information. Oh I'll bring up the book, but I
- 14:04Speaker 3: won't hold the information.
- 14:05Speaker 1: But I'm sure there are countless listeners right now that
- 14:08Speaker 1: are all so mad at both of us for not
- 14:11Speaker 1: knowing whatever book this is.
- 14:12Speaker 3: Yeah, and it was a really good book. And I
- 14:15Speaker 3: really enjoyed reading it with her, and we would get
- 14:17Speaker 3: to like, oh, did you start it? Or I'm this
- 14:19Speaker 3: you know, I'm three ahead of you, or I'm three
- 14:21Speaker 3: chapters behind you. It was very fun. We're going to
- 14:24Speaker 3: read another one of her books, oh in between, this
- 14:27Speaker 3: is embarrassing. I don't even know. She might be mad
- 14:29Speaker 3: if I reveal that we read this.
- 14:33Speaker 4: This is it Magic Hour by Kristin Hannah.
- 14:35Speaker 3: Yeah, christ I was remembering a k an age. Yeah,
- 14:39Speaker 3: that was awesome.
- 14:42Speaker 1: I know you gave very little information.
- 14:44Speaker 3: Very I was giving plot information.
- 14:46Speaker 1: To almost any book. It's about a girl, Kristin Hannah
- 14:53Speaker 1: Magic Hour. Yeah, and then what was the But honly
- 14:56Speaker 1: saved you from saying an embarrassing book you read?
- 15:00Speaker 3: It ends with us?
- 15:01Speaker 1: It ends with oh, which became the movie, which became
- 15:03Speaker 1: the controversy.
- 15:05Speaker 3: Somehow I had read the book and then I don't
- 15:09Speaker 3: know why. It makes me want to cry right now,
- 15:12Speaker 3: because I thought I was done with it. I saw
- 15:13Speaker 3: it on the shelf just this morning, and I went
- 15:16Speaker 3: because we spent a couple of months dialoguing about it
- 15:20Speaker 3: after I had read it and then watched it, and
- 15:22Speaker 3: then she's like, okay, I'm going to watch it too,
- 15:24Speaker 3: and we you know, and then of course we get
- 15:26Speaker 3: all the like stories about the lawsuit that was in
- 15:30Speaker 3: the conversation and yeah, it got to the point where
- 15:34Speaker 3: we both were like, I, I don't want to talk
- 15:37Speaker 3: about this ever again. But yet we continued to talk
- 15:39Speaker 3: about it for a few more conversations. Uh so, yeah,
- 15:43Speaker 3: that's I that's that's that's not high on my reading list.
- 15:46Speaker 3: But but that's how we're doing it. You know, we're
- 15:49Speaker 3: leading with our feelings.
- 15:50Speaker 1: It's a deeply I mean, it's extremely popular, the.
- 15:52Speaker 3: Book, it's extremely popular, and.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Not that that means anything.
- 15:57Speaker 3: What did I Oh, I watched the movie and then
- 15:59Speaker 3: I read book because I was curious how it which
- 16:02Speaker 3: was played out. They were very similar to me. I
- 16:11Speaker 3: I don't want to say the book is worse, because
- 16:13Speaker 3: I know she's I don't want to disparage the author.
- 16:16Speaker 1: I guess I already have.
- 16:20Speaker 3: I think I appreciate anyone who can execute a book.
- 16:23Speaker 3: I'm excited based on personal experience. There's just something because
- 16:29Speaker 3: it's there's gender roles, and there's we were mentioning how
- 16:36Speaker 3: every time they have sex, she seems to say inside
- 16:41Speaker 3: she's but that's the main character is going it's inside
- 16:45Speaker 3: of me, inside of me, and it just plays out
- 16:49Speaker 3: like a very stereotypical strange couple fantasy. And then he's
- 16:58Speaker 3: a neurosurgeon and it's just like but to not disparage it,
- 17:05Speaker 3: and I think this is part of what hooks me
- 17:07Speaker 3: in and why I was interested in it, is there
- 17:09Speaker 3: there is a really thoughtful expression of how you can
- 17:15Speaker 3: be locked into someone and then how it can become
- 17:19Speaker 3: physically abusive. And I think that aside from my critical,
- 17:24Speaker 3: you know, critique of it, which is I'm the asshole
- 17:27Speaker 3: in that I realize that, but there are there is
- 17:31Speaker 3: that part of it where it's very thoughtful and when
- 17:36Speaker 3: you're watching it, you're going, eh, it does bring you
- 17:38Speaker 3: into that behavior that can make someone have power over
- 17:43Speaker 3: someone and and what our expectations are and what we're
- 17:47Speaker 3: owed and and why we're intertwined with somebody. And I
- 17:51Speaker 3: think that's the parts that I liked about it. And
- 17:54Speaker 3: then the other parts. I was, you know, kind of
- 17:59Speaker 3: hate liking it.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Right, so she all I know, and this actually might
- 18:04Speaker 1: not even be true. She works in a flower shop?
- 18:08Speaker 1: Is that true?
- 18:10Speaker 3: That's what you got from and everything you've seen online.
- 18:14Speaker 1: This is my exposure to this is reading about lawsuits
- 18:18Speaker 1: and then the like.
- 18:19Speaker 3: Where Floral's at the premiere that piece of business.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Not even that actually, I'm just I'm remembering the like
- 18:29Speaker 1: standy or whatever they had at the AMC where you
- 18:32Speaker 1: could get your photo taken in what seemed to be
- 18:34Speaker 1: a flower shop. But then like I knew there was
- 18:36Speaker 1: some element of physical abuse, and I was like, why
- 18:39Speaker 1: are we getting a picture taken in the flower shop
- 18:41Speaker 1: for this movie? About the domestic.
- 18:43Speaker 3: Other layer to this mess. I mean, I was kind
- 18:46Speaker 3: of talking about the work and then you throw on
- 18:49Speaker 3: this the press angle of how they were planning on
- 18:55Speaker 3: selling it, and.
- 18:56Speaker 1: It's very odd, very odd yep.
- 18:59Speaker 3: But so yeah, the main character, that's her dream. And
- 19:03Speaker 3: there's another thing in the book and I was like this,
- 19:06Speaker 3: she hates herself and she hates her readers. There's a
- 19:09Speaker 3: thing in the book where she's starting. But let's do
- 19:13Speaker 3: flowers different instead of making them alive, let's make them dead.
- 19:18Speaker 3: But she doesn't make them dead, but she makes them different.
- 19:20Speaker 3: Like there's a display where and she's it's a steampunk's
- 19:33Speaker 3: steampunk gonna put rivets and dip it in a dip
- 19:40Speaker 3: a white rose into black, a.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Dozen roses in a top haad or something. This is horrible.
- 19:50Speaker 1: This is too many things going on in one book.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Pick one or a couple of those.
- 19:57Speaker 3: You can't go on doing.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Really steampunk flowers, think, So that can't be true.
- 20:05Speaker 3: I hate it so much.
- 20:08Speaker 1: How do you write a book about steampunk flowers? And
- 20:11Speaker 1: that's not the biggest problem.
- 20:13Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 20:14Speaker 1: Oh no, no, And now this author has a lot
- 20:18Speaker 1: of successful books, right, she's kind of like the top
- 20:21Speaker 1: of the right. Now, yeah, she's great, and good for her.
- 20:27Speaker 3: And then also, I mean, now that i've I really
- 20:30Speaker 3: want to get off this. There's something that feels bad
- 20:32Speaker 3: about it. But now that we're in here, the main
- 20:35Speaker 3: character also writes to Ellen degenerate journal.
- 20:45Speaker 1: Wait for some reason.
- 20:48Speaker 3: This is very cathartic and cringey for me to talk.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Why does she write to Ellen? Oh this is now starting.
- 20:58Speaker 1: I'm not starting to feel some sort of pity for
- 21:01Speaker 1: this character. And I don't know anything about any of it.
- 21:04Speaker 1: You means somewhere she loves Ellen.
- 21:07Speaker 3: She loves Ellen.
- 21:08Speaker 1: She doesn't know about Ellen.
- 21:10Speaker 3: Is coming off. She her the main character in the book.
- 21:15Speaker 3: Her father was abusive, Okay.
- 21:18Speaker 1: And that's why it's so hard. I mean, these are issues, these.
- 21:21Speaker 3: Are real issues, and she writes about that. Well, it's
- 21:24Speaker 3: just the combination of that with the steampunk and I
- 21:28Speaker 3: guess it's just like an aesthetic taste thing. But so
- 21:34Speaker 3: she tries to, you know, her escape is to write
- 21:38Speaker 3: to Ellen because it was maybe the book is set
- 21:42Speaker 3: at the beginning of ellen talk show, and at some
- 21:45Speaker 3: point the main character is like Ellen, I fast forward
- 21:49Speaker 3: through your dancing, which is pretty amazing, but but so yeah,
- 21:55Speaker 3: that's her refuge is to imagine that she's sharing all
- 21:59Speaker 3: of her deepest things that she's going through with La.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Which is heartbreaking way but then also shocking, especially considering
- 22:08Speaker 1: where we stand in ellen history currently.
- 22:11Speaker 3: Yeah, so it's it's yeah, it's a piece of cultural.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Now I want to read this, right, I mean.
- 22:18Speaker 3: I give you my copy all over again.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Does the Ellen thing play into the movie?
- 22:26Speaker 3: No, that's what I was just gonna say that that
- 22:28Speaker 3: part did not make it into the movie.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Does she write to a fictional talk show host or anything,
- 22:32Speaker 1: or they just don't do that.
- 22:33Speaker 3: They don't do that at all.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Interesting. I would be mad if I went to the
- 22:36Speaker 1: movie and she wasn't writing to Ellen.
- 22:38Speaker 3: Yeah. And I think you know the author, Colleen Hoover.
- 22:43Speaker 3: I remembered her name. We go and remember Kristin Hannah
- 22:45Speaker 3: did I I'm back. I'm back in the book mode, guys.
- 22:48Speaker 3: I haven't picked up a book in a few days.
- 22:53Speaker 3: She I, because I was. Of course, the onslaught about
- 22:56Speaker 3: the lawsuits and stuff. You got to you gotta click
- 22:58Speaker 3: on some of that stuff, and Colleen just stays out
- 23:03Speaker 3: of it.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Does anything to do with it?
- 23:05Speaker 3: Yeah? Smart? And I think similarly with you know, she
- 23:08Speaker 3: made a statement of like that that's there's this is
- 23:14Speaker 3: what they want with it, and across the board with
- 23:18Speaker 3: the story and the problems with it, which is smart.
- 23:22Speaker 1: She's like, yeah, bad to do with that. She's onto
- 23:26Speaker 1: her next book. That's right, somebody's writing.
- 23:31Speaker 3: It really took me somewhere. Wow.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Interesting. Yeah, this whole thing and I can't even remember
- 23:37Speaker 1: who's involved in the lawsuit. It's what's her name? And
- 23:40Speaker 1: the horrible direct.
- 23:41Speaker 3: Yeah, what's her name? And what's his name? Jason Baldoni?
- 23:44Speaker 1: And hey, how did.
- 23:48Speaker 3: We end up talking about this? Of all things? That's
- 23:51Speaker 3: what happens, you know, when you're open to anything.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Sometimes when anything goes, when anything goes, and that's kind
- 23:58Speaker 1: of ther you get. We push limits, we push it
- 24:02Speaker 1: to the edge, and we remember celebrity names.
- 24:04Speaker 3: We yeah, and then we hop off the edge and
- 24:08Speaker 3: bang our heads on the bottom of the pool.
- 24:10Speaker 1: This is another app I wouldn't mind, is having a
- 24:12Speaker 1: thing that just shows you a celebrity picture and you
- 24:14Speaker 1: have to remember their name. That feels like a good
- 24:16Speaker 1: thing for me, for my brain, Like just wake up
- 24:19Speaker 1: every morning and try to remember things.
- 24:21Speaker 3: That'd be a fun board game, like that memory game
- 24:24Speaker 3: you play when you're little.
- 24:25Speaker 1: But with only celebrities that. I guess there'll probably some
- 24:29Speaker 1: copyright issues or what have you. Maybe it could be
- 24:31Speaker 1: kind of an off brand or black market. Yeah, I
- 24:35Speaker 1: guess you could make that at home, print up pictures,
- 24:38Speaker 1: make that at home. You should make that?
- 24:41Speaker 3: Can you and invite me over? And I won't know
- 24:45Speaker 3: anyone's name, I won't know who anyone is.
- 24:47Speaker 1: That actually US magazine guess who combined forces. It's called
- 24:51Speaker 1: guest US and it celebrity.
- 24:55Speaker 3: You did it.
- 24:55Speaker 1: Oh my god, if they.
- 24:56Speaker 3: Did it, I'm a part of this.
- 24:58Speaker 1: We're in you did it. This is a nice little sign.
- 25:01Speaker 1: Now guess we're ready to go.
- 25:03Speaker 3: Let's run with this and at least get them on
- 25:06Speaker 3: the horn copyright whatever?
- 25:09Speaker 1: Do you play? Connections?
- 25:11Speaker 3: What is that?
- 25:12Speaker 1: This is the New York Times game? I played this
- 25:14Speaker 1: every morning.
- 25:15Speaker 3: No, but I know people.
- 25:17Speaker 1: Fantastic game. This does make me feel a little better
- 25:19Speaker 1: about my Not the crossword, No, this one. It's like,
- 25:22Speaker 1: give me, you don't know what this is? Like four
- 25:24Speaker 1: there are four categories and then they're like, uh, maybe
- 25:28Speaker 1: sixteen words I think, and you have to decide which
- 25:31Speaker 1: words go with which into which category.
- 25:34Speaker 3: I'm into that.
- 25:35Speaker 1: It's wonderful.
- 25:37Speaker 3: It's less taxing than a crossword puzzle.
- 25:39Speaker 1: Yes, it takes less time and actually, in some ways
- 25:43Speaker 1: makes you feel a little bit more clever than a crossword.
- 25:45Speaker 3: Puzzle, and more clever than wordle certainly.
- 25:48Speaker 1: Oh I don't do wordle at all.
- 25:51Speaker 3: See, we got to slow down. Don't get its tax.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Word essentially like playing the lottery or something.
- 26:01Speaker 3: It's just a lot of gane and then not a
- 26:03Speaker 3: lot of satisfaction.
- 26:04Speaker 1: It's right, exactly. Congratulations you were able to guess.
- 26:08Speaker 3: Yeah, and now I feel dirty. It's just like I
- 26:11Speaker 3: do describing this book multiple reasons, none having to do
- 26:15Speaker 3: with the caliber.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Of the Yeah, I was off wordled pretty quickly. I
- 26:20Speaker 1: don't know if it was because I was just frustrated,
- 26:22Speaker 1: but I just felt like it was dumb. It kind
- 26:24Speaker 1: of felt to me like almost like a word search.
- 26:26Speaker 3: Yes, it's like this is I think there are people
- 26:29Speaker 3: who are still into it. I spent a good deal
- 26:31Speaker 3: of time. I think there was a moment where I
- 26:33Speaker 3: was even telling other.
- 26:35Speaker 1: People, you got it took us all by storm.
- 26:38Speaker 3: It took us by storm.
- 26:39Speaker 1: But Connections, I think is playing the long game. I
- 26:41Speaker 1: think it's going to it's going to be the one
- 26:43Speaker 1: that stands the test of time.
- 26:45Speaker 3: I'm going to get in there.
- 26:46Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a good one. I mean well, speaking of
- 26:49Speaker 1: things that make us feel dirty and horrible, there's probably
- 26:52Speaker 1: something else I should bring up. I don't know that
- 26:55Speaker 1: I even want to, But Marylynn, I was excited to
- 26:58Speaker 1: have you here today.
- 27:00Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 27:00Speaker 1: I was.
- 27:00Speaker 3: I'm excited to be here.
- 27:02Speaker 1: I thought we would have a good time. Yeah, talk
- 27:05Speaker 1: about whatever we wanted and move on with our days. Yes,
- 27:07Speaker 1: the podcast is called I said No Gifts. Yes, so
- 27:11Speaker 1: I'll just say I was floored when you burst into
- 27:16Speaker 1: the studio. Yeah, you've, by your own admission, received about
- 27:20Speaker 1: a thousand emails about this podcast. I'm sure one of
- 27:23Speaker 1: them had the title, I.
- 27:26Speaker 3: Mean, everybody wants a gift. You're just when you say that,
- 27:29Speaker 3: you're just saying that you're.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Painting me to be a very materialistic person.
- 27:33Speaker 3: Right now, you're telling me you don't want the gift
- 27:35Speaker 3: I brought for you.
- 27:38Speaker 1: I'm not saying one thing or another.
- 27:40Speaker 3: Catching you in your own in your own game, and.
- 27:44Speaker 1: I will not be caught. I will leave the studio
- 27:46Speaker 1: before being caught.
- 27:48Speaker 3: Okay, you know what. I'm a guest here, and you're right.
- 27:50Speaker 3: It said no gifts, and I defined it. Okay, there,
- 27:53Speaker 3: you're right I did. I went against everything that you
- 27:58Speaker 3: think you want, everything you take a stand for, sneak
- 28:01Speaker 3: in the back door, and I'm saying you, wouldn't you
- 28:05Speaker 3: like to open a little gift. Wouldn't that make you
- 28:07Speaker 3: feel better?
- 28:08Speaker 1: Well? Maybe then should we open it here on the podcast.
- 28:11Speaker 3: I would love that so much. I'm going to get
- 28:13Speaker 3: the gift.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Okay, Okay, great, wait, oh, it's right here. I was like,
- 28:19Speaker 1: where are you go down?
- 28:21Speaker 3: Fake stairs?
- 28:23Speaker 1: Away? Just vanish.
- 28:32Speaker 3: Okay, first of all, clearly this is a notebook. I
- 28:33Speaker 3: got one up for each of us.
- 28:34Speaker 1: Oh fantastic. Oh I'm excited to see where this hads.
- 28:37Speaker 3: So we can write everything we thought about this podcast
- 28:40Speaker 3: and a.
- 28:41Speaker 1: Nice to review. Okay, so it's in this brown paper bag,
- 28:44Speaker 1: and so should I take out the notebook first? Yeah?
- 28:46Speaker 3: Just take a notebook out. We all have a notebook.
- 28:48Speaker 1: We each have a seventy match notebooks, college ruled notebook.
- 28:53Speaker 1: Oh does that feel good? Kind of a bright blue color?
- 28:55Speaker 1: And now should I take this out?
- 28:57Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 28:57Speaker 1: Okay, we'll pull this. Oh I'm excited about this already.
- 29:03Speaker 1: It's a pair of white sox that I would describe
- 29:07Speaker 1: as a mid calf. Is that what this is? It's not.
- 29:10Speaker 3: It's the thing that's exciting. They're not short, and they're
- 29:13Speaker 3: not long, and they're from the liquor store.
- 29:16Speaker 1: Yeah, it's going to Why is the should should I
- 29:20Speaker 1: keep going here? Or should we talk about this first?
- 29:23Speaker 3: Let's let's talk about it.
- 29:25Speaker 1: This is, I would say, just upon looking at them immediately,
- 29:30Speaker 1: is probably the least flattering sock you can wear.
- 29:33Speaker 3: I know, so I agree.
- 29:35Speaker 1: I agree because it doesn't cover it. Like, maybe I
- 29:38Speaker 1: should put one on right now.
- 29:39Speaker 3: That'd be great, that'd be terrific. They're almost the right
- 29:43Speaker 3: length to be calves. E's right, it's the style of
- 29:50Speaker 3: sock I have on right now. But yeah, they're like
- 29:52Speaker 3: no brand.
- 29:53Speaker 1: Yours feels a little longer to me. I'll also say
- 29:56Speaker 1: that they're white socks but also are almost gray.
- 30:00Speaker 3: That's exciting. It's like a high Does that one look dirty?
- 30:05Speaker 1: Or maybe it's the lighting it. I mean, the majority
- 30:09Speaker 1: of the sock is meant for the foot rather than
- 30:12Speaker 1: the leg, like that foot ratio is shocking.
- 30:17Speaker 3: The texture looks like maybe a sink scrubber.
- 30:21Speaker 1: Oh this is actually worse than I imagine.
- 30:23Speaker 3: I thought it was better. Your foot fits in there perfectly. Wait,
- 30:27Speaker 3: why is it.
- 30:27Speaker 1: Work goes in? But what say about my legs length?
- 30:31Speaker 1: What do you do legwise with this?
- 30:34Speaker 3: But don't gloss over the foot.
- 30:36Speaker 1: You said that it was so big but perfect. This
- 30:39Speaker 1: is a Cinderella situation. Now what if you just.
- 30:42Speaker 3: Scrunch the top down and make it like a footy
- 30:45Speaker 3: with bonus? Oh, interesting footy with an extra. Yeah, that's terrible.
- 30:49Speaker 3: It's a terrible length of sopping.
- 30:51Speaker 1: My shoe, and we'll see how that looks.
- 30:53Speaker 3: But I think maybe the scrunch down is the way
- 30:55Speaker 3: to go to act like it's deliberate.
- 30:57Speaker 1: If I were in shorts, what would we think of me?
- 31:00Speaker 1: Right now?
- 31:00Speaker 3: I'm not gonna lie. That's cute, That's cute as hell.
- 31:05Speaker 1: This feels like if I were wearing like a slightly
- 31:08Speaker 1: below knee.
- 31:09Speaker 3: Skirt, which is what I'm doing right now. All right,
- 31:12Speaker 3: This feels like, look, I'm just making you dress like me.
- 31:16Speaker 1: I pull out a skirt next denim jacket. Yes, okay, yeah,
- 31:20Speaker 1: I wonder what at a last, do we have any
- 31:22Speaker 1: idea of what type of sock? This is called cru sock?
- 31:26Speaker 1: This is a cru sock, that's my guest. I've always
- 31:28Speaker 1: assumed a crusock was one of the ones that goes
- 31:30Speaker 1: onto your cat.
- 31:31Speaker 3: Now I see what you're saying. You're you're completely throwing
- 31:33Speaker 3: that sock under the bus, and you're doing it in
- 31:35Speaker 3: a reverse way by trying to uplift it and say,
- 31:38Speaker 3: what kind of suck is this? When you know, damn well,
- 31:41Speaker 3: it's a poorly made crew sock.
- 31:43Speaker 4: It looks like a krusock to me.
- 31:45Speaker 1: It's a crew sock.
- 31:46Speaker 3: You're trying to invent a different style of sock.
- 31:49Speaker 1: So what's the calf sock? What does that? What do
- 31:51Speaker 1: we call that?
- 31:52Speaker 3: Is a crew sock? This is a bastardized it's.
- 31:55Speaker 1: Just like a sty right, do you agree? I guessed.
- 32:00Speaker 1: So then there's like the one that goes up to
- 32:02Speaker 1: your that's a knee sock. Okay, Oh, that's a sweat sock, sweatsock.
- 32:06Speaker 1: But isn't there also sock?
- 32:10Speaker 3: Oh? A knee sock is what girls wear with their
- 32:14Speaker 3: school uniforms and their Mary Jane's sweatsock, same length, made
- 32:18Speaker 3: out of thicker materials, what basketball players in the seventies wear.
- 32:21Speaker 1: Right with a strip. So that's a classic song. That's
- 32:24Speaker 1: a classic you kind of that's timeless, And there's.
- 32:26Speaker 3: Different versions of that. They're not all not all sweat
- 32:29Speaker 3: socks are the same length. So maybe we just call
- 32:31Speaker 3: this a sweat sock. This is a sweets a it's
- 32:34Speaker 3: trying to be a crew.
- 32:35Speaker 4: Okay, So I actually think that what you have in
- 32:38Speaker 4: your possession is called a micro crew, a micro crew.
- 32:41Speaker 3: Yeah, you were right to give the dignity to the sock,
- 32:45Speaker 3: because there is a sock category called a mic C.
- 32:48Speaker 1: That feels new. I don't think we were calling this crew.
- 32:52Speaker 3: She didn't want the sock to feel bad.
- 32:55Speaker 1: On Alas is always thinking about the sock micro crew
- 33:00Speaker 1: interesting but my crow crew?
- 33:03Speaker 3: Wait, so then does that mean that the crew sock
- 33:05Speaker 3: is supposed to go up the calve? Do you have
- 33:07Speaker 3: a picture of a crew sock over there?
- 33:09Speaker 1: I feel like this is a cruise sock right here. Okay,
- 33:12Speaker 1: let me put this back on. The sock I came
- 33:18Speaker 1: into the studio is a gray crew.
- 33:22Speaker 3: I think I'm into the crew sock. For for many
- 33:25Speaker 3: a year, I wore footies because that was what was
- 33:28Speaker 3: available right in my hastily shopping at Target. Now I
- 33:35Speaker 3: go out of my way to get what the crew is.
- 33:38Speaker 3: I'm gonna say, is the best kind of sock.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Now we're looking, oh we have a hole? Oh wow,
- 33:44Speaker 1: looking at there's eight or nine different all of the
- 33:46Speaker 1: types of socks, and okay, socks by heart.
- 33:50Speaker 3: We go.
- 33:51Speaker 1: We have the no show hidden.
- 33:54Speaker 3: I'll get out of there.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Then the no show. So the no show is different
- 34:01Speaker 1: than the no show hidden, interestingly, okay, which doesn't make
- 34:05Speaker 1: a ton of sense.
- 34:05Speaker 3: So no show it's like it doesn't really not show
- 34:08Speaker 3: now bad sock.
- 34:09Speaker 1: Yeah, which is also I believe an ankle sock. I
- 34:13Speaker 1: think that's more of an ankle sock. I'll look at
- 34:15Speaker 1: the next one. Oh, then we've got the quarter.
- 34:17Speaker 3: Which is like a little bit over the ankle, which
- 34:19Speaker 3: is kind of hilarious because you're right. The second one
- 34:22Speaker 3: is more of a true ankle sock.
- 34:23Speaker 2: Right.
- 34:24Speaker 1: Then we get to our micro crew, our hero.
- 34:28Speaker 3: Then the crew where microstore sock is the micro crew.
- 34:31Speaker 1: I actually think I'm in a boot boot sock.
- 34:34Speaker 3: Or in a GD boot socks because there's so subtle
- 34:39Speaker 3: the differences.
- 34:40Speaker 1: I know, this feels unnecessary boot sock midcalf.
- 34:45Speaker 3: And also this is a it's not really I'd love
- 34:49Speaker 3: to see this. But then with just all the examples
- 34:52Speaker 3: in the world, oh right, right, like the seventies sock
- 34:57Speaker 3: we're talking about.
- 34:58Speaker 1: Yes, there are a bunch of other socks. It could
- 35:00Speaker 1: be on this diagram. Thigh highs Yeah, yeah, is that
- 35:04Speaker 1: a sock that's more of a boot?
- 35:07Speaker 3: I agree with you.
- 35:09Speaker 1: I'd like a thigh highs song just a white thought.
- 35:16Speaker 3: Crotch sock all the way up to the to the shoulder,
- 35:21Speaker 3: to this shoulder.
- 35:24Speaker 1: Okay, tell me why you brought these socks.
- 35:27Speaker 3: Well, I was going to the liquor store to get
- 35:31Speaker 3: another item that's in that bag, which was isn't meant
- 35:34Speaker 3: to be in the bag, and I saw them and
- 35:38Speaker 3: they looked cozy and nice, you know, like a nice
- 35:45Speaker 3: thing to touch.
- 35:46Speaker 1: It is a nice soft and this is a good
- 35:48Speaker 1: bed sock you're gonna put You're gonna wear those. There's cozy.
- 35:54Speaker 1: I'm always in need of new socks. We all do.
- 35:56Speaker 3: And that's a good feeling when you go into a
- 35:58Speaker 3: store that you don't expect will have anything and then
- 36:01Speaker 3: they're there and they just spoke to me.
- 36:04Speaker 1: A liquor store with socks. That's I mean, that's incredible.
- 36:08Speaker 1: Underwear too. They have a full clothing.
- 36:10Speaker 3: Section, no, like an underwear socks and underwear.
- 36:13Speaker 1: So that's for somebody whose life is a mess. Yeah,
- 36:15Speaker 1: something's going on and there that's not you yet.
- 36:21Speaker 3: That's not you when I picked that out for you.
- 36:25Speaker 1: It's a luxury sock.
- 36:27Speaker 3: That's how I thought of it. I go into the
- 36:29Speaker 3: liquor store and I think I didn't expect to see
- 36:31Speaker 3: this here. Yeah, it could very well for someone who
- 36:37Speaker 3: is in need. It functions in an Oh, thank god.
- 36:40Speaker 1: That's here, right, Oh, it socks.
- 36:43Speaker 3: And they were like five bucks, which I also thought
- 36:45Speaker 3: was a bargain. Great price.
- 36:46Speaker 1: Socks have gotten very expensive.
- 36:48Speaker 3: Because that's like three pairs of socks.
- 36:50Speaker 1: At least three pairs, right, yeah, and they can just
- 36:53Speaker 1: immediately go into my wardrobe. I've started doing more of
- 36:56Speaker 1: a neutral sock.
- 36:58Speaker 3: Oh this is great.
- 37:00Speaker 1: I love this, great news. I was wearing kind of more,
- 37:03Speaker 1: you know, ones with designs for a lot of time,
- 37:04Speaker 1: and I haven't sworn them off, right, But a nice
- 37:07Speaker 1: gray or white sox.
- 37:07Speaker 3: For twenty twenty five into the neutral socks.
- 37:11Speaker 1: Yes, we need to have a nice neutral into it.
- 37:14Speaker 3: I'm into it.
- 37:15Speaker 1: Are you much of a sock person? I care?
- 37:19Speaker 3: I don't even want to get into it. I don't care,
- 37:23Speaker 3: but I do care.
- 37:24Speaker 1: I feel like you've got style.
- 37:26Speaker 3: I'd thank you.
- 37:27Speaker 1: I'd like to have style.
- 37:30Speaker 3: I'm forever throwing things away and starting over and then
- 37:33Speaker 3: not knowing and then not committing.
- 37:37Speaker 1: Right to a particular look.
- 37:40Speaker 3: Yeah, I have you. So then right now I'm just
- 37:43Speaker 3: doing the white cruise sock.
- 37:45Speaker 1: I think you're right on brand.
- 37:47Speaker 3: I'm into it.
- 37:48Speaker 1: You know, it's twenty twenty five. I've just declared you've
- 37:51Speaker 1: just declared neutral sock.
- 37:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't think I can commit to I do
- 37:56Speaker 3: have some striped socks and some socks with things on them.
- 37:59Speaker 1: But when you have that then it has to really
- 38:02Speaker 1: be part of a particular look. That's right. You can't
- 38:05Speaker 1: just throw that on with anything. No, but I do
- 38:08Speaker 1: you know.
- 38:08Speaker 3: I will say I tend to wear the same pair
- 38:11Speaker 3: of black sweatpants every single day.
- 38:13Speaker 1: A fun sock will jass it up. That's true. Take
- 38:16Speaker 1: the neutral.
- 38:17Speaker 3: I would go the opposite. Instead of having a whole
- 38:20Speaker 3: outfit go with it. I will have a bland outfit.
- 38:22Speaker 1: And something to look at that.
- 38:23Speaker 3: It's also like I start getting my nails done. Oh
- 38:25Speaker 3: I like that color on my eyeliners, on my fingers,
- 38:30Speaker 3: Thank you so much. Because it also makes me seem
- 38:34Speaker 3: like I'm wearing an outfit right when I'm not.
- 38:36Speaker 1: It feels like a choice that you don't you don't
- 38:38Speaker 1: even have to make.
- 38:39Speaker 3: That it makes something fancy, like I'm dressed in shitty clothes.
- 38:43Speaker 3: And then it's like, wait a minute, she's got class.
- 38:45Speaker 1: Did you see that she buys socks at liquor store? Yeah,
- 38:48Speaker 1: what color is that?
- 38:49Speaker 3: That's a It's like a looks like a Barbie pink
- 38:52Speaker 3: bubblegum pink.
- 38:53Speaker 1: It's very bubblegum. I like it. Okay, should I get
- 38:56Speaker 1: back in here.
- 38:57Speaker 3: Yeah, let's get back in there. I'm really excited about
- 38:59Speaker 3: the gifts.
- 39:01Speaker 1: Oh, I'm thrilled. A nice trail mix, simply classic.
- 39:06Speaker 3: That's yeah. I couldn't eat it anymore.
- 39:10Speaker 1: It has absolutely been open, so I can just dive
- 39:13Speaker 1: in right now.
- 39:14Speaker 3: Absolutely has been open.
- 39:16Speaker 1: I love a good trail mix. Do you want some?
- 39:18Speaker 3: No, because I've had too much over the past three
- 39:21Speaker 3: four days. And I like to think my son was
- 39:23Speaker 3: going to get in there, but he he didn't. I
- 39:25Speaker 3: ate all the rest of that bag myself, so it's
- 39:27Speaker 3: time for you to do the rest of the work
- 39:28Speaker 3: for me. Please brand And.
- 39:31Speaker 1: It's great, It's very good.
- 39:33Speaker 3: It's not too salty. It's got a good casual almond ratio.
- 39:37Speaker 3: Gonna get get you an eminem in there. The filler
- 39:42Speaker 3: of trail mix. Of course, you gotta expect there's they're
- 39:46Speaker 3: gonna put too many. It's too easy.
- 39:48Speaker 1: It's the easiest thing to.
- 39:49Speaker 3: Throw the raisins in there. But I I'm excited for
- 39:53Speaker 3: you to eat the rest of this bag. And I'm
- 39:55Speaker 3: thrilled that you tried it right away.
- 39:57Speaker 1: I had to.
- 39:58Speaker 3: Yes.
- 39:58Speaker 1: The nice thing about a trail mixes it's a good
- 40:00Speaker 1: way to get your raisins in.
- 40:02Speaker 3: I've always said, gotta get more raisins in. It's fiber, right.
- 40:08Speaker 1: It's fiber, and by putting that little bit of salt
- 40:11Speaker 1: on it, it makes them much more tolerable.
- 40:13Speaker 3: Could you imagine what your parent being the one your
- 40:18Speaker 3: parent mom's only mom's pack lunches. Let's be real, that
- 40:22Speaker 3: puts the pack of raisins in there. Oh, I was
- 40:26Speaker 3: that mom for a moment you put in But I'm
- 40:29Speaker 3: not that mom. But I one day I was in
- 40:32Speaker 3: the grocery store and I was like, I'm gonna be
- 40:34Speaker 3: that mom. It didn't last very long, but I can
- 40:36Speaker 3: remember growing up. But who's your mom?
- 40:43Speaker 1: Why is your mom such a loser because of it?
- 40:46Speaker 3: It's like that a healthy It's not no, it's.
- 40:50Speaker 1: Not just another type of candy, except for if no
- 40:53Speaker 1: one likes to eat them.
- 40:54Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what it was considered, is like a.
- 40:57Speaker 1: Healthy right of course. And then there was the crazy phenomenon.
- 41:02Speaker 3: They'll still see a crazin in a salad.
- 41:04Speaker 1: You find them in the salad, ye, when you're kind
- 41:07Speaker 1: of just chewing them up. Don't need it, don't add anything.
- 41:10Speaker 3: Don't put a crazin, don't put a I'm gonna go
- 41:14Speaker 3: back on that. I've had a kio salad with a crazin,
- 41:17Speaker 3: and it helps if the lettuce is more better.
- 41:20Speaker 1: Oh ad a little bit of sweetness or a little
- 41:22Speaker 1: extra something.
- 41:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I can't fully turn against fruit, but I would
- 41:27Speaker 3: say I'm ninety percent against fruit in a salad.
- 41:30Speaker 1: It's like, just make a good salad, don't put fruit,
- 41:33Speaker 1: Pick the right vegetables, please, thank you, and make a
- 41:36Speaker 1: good dressing. Throw a little cheese in there.
- 41:39Speaker 3: I'm not going to do it at home ever. I always, yeah,
- 41:43Speaker 3: I always try to make a salad and it's a bust.
- 41:46Speaker 3: This is terrible. I admire anyone who can make a true,
- 41:51Speaker 3: really good salad.
- 41:52Speaker 1: Yeah, it's interesting because it seems like it should be
- 41:54Speaker 1: easier and then you try. And I think making a
- 41:57Speaker 1: good salad requires be able to go all the way. Yes,
- 42:02Speaker 1: And when you're making something at home, you don't. You're
- 42:04Speaker 1: not interested in going all the way. You're not buying
- 42:06Speaker 1: all of the vegetables or chopping them up in the
- 42:08Speaker 1: way you should not. Then you end up kind of
- 42:10Speaker 1: with like the baby spinach and you can't slivered almonds
- 42:14Speaker 1: or something.
- 42:15Speaker 3: Exactly, and then boring, Wow, I got slivered almonds.
- 42:22Speaker 1: This trail mix to me, it always reminds me that
- 42:26Speaker 1: I'm shocked, especially now when all these companies companies are
- 42:29Speaker 1: doing a billion different flavors all the time with their products.
- 42:32Speaker 1: Why Eminem's hasn't done as salted M and M just
- 42:35Speaker 1: have a bag of Eminem's and they're coated in salt. Okay,
- 42:40Speaker 1: because an Eminem out of a trail mixing.
- 42:42Speaker 3: I mean, I like your ingenuity. I like you seem
- 42:45Speaker 3: like if you were the boss there, you'd be like,
- 42:47Speaker 3: make it happen by the end of the day. And
- 42:49Speaker 3: they're like our hard shell that we've been making since
- 42:53Speaker 3: nineteen hundred. You want us to just add salt to
- 42:56Speaker 3: that that sticks? You want us sick break the entire
- 43:01Speaker 3: recipe of Eminem's. Any Eminem always has the same shell.
- 43:07Speaker 1: What would it? Okay, hose them down and then throw
- 43:09Speaker 1: salt on them.
- 43:12Speaker 3: Wow, holos them down and get some salt on it.
- 43:15Speaker 1: By the end of the day, we get a garden
- 43:16Speaker 1: hose in the factory. That's all it would take and
- 43:20Speaker 1: like a bag of salt. Somebody kind of just.
- 43:23Speaker 3: At you right now. I'm not gonna lie. I got
- 43:25Speaker 3: a little bit angry.
- 43:26Speaker 1: You're mad because I thought of it first. And now
- 43:29Speaker 1: I'm going to be working up mars m and m
- 43:31Speaker 1: or whatever it's called, eminem mars with.
- 43:34Speaker 3: A bunch of melting salty colors all over your hair
- 43:38Speaker 3: stuck together, and we'll call them eminem clusters.
- 43:42Speaker 1: Okay, so this is us working as a sea and
- 43:45Speaker 1: now I'm bringing you on.
- 43:46Speaker 3: Maybe well, he's a raisin as part of the glue.
- 43:49Speaker 1: Interesting, Now we're going backwards.
- 43:51Speaker 3: We're going backwards.
- 43:52Speaker 1: That's interesting. I wonder if that's ever come up with
- 43:54Speaker 1: the company of trying to make a raisin eminem. Oh,
- 43:57Speaker 1: that sounds terrible, eminem with a hidden raisin.
- 44:00Speaker 3: I'm interested in a shape of a what do you
- 44:05Speaker 3: call that?
- 44:06Speaker 1: With like a cell with all the orbits.
- 44:11Speaker 3: Yes, thank you and Adam, because I'm also simultaneously thinking
- 44:16Speaker 3: of what will you want on the chalk Factory the
- 44:18Speaker 3: original where he's got that oh god like kind of
- 44:21Speaker 3: a shape. That'd be a fun right for a candy
- 44:25Speaker 3: to have offshoots.
- 44:27Speaker 1: Yes, have like a chocolate center with a little M
- 44:29Speaker 1: and M stuck.
- 44:30Speaker 3: On the house around to something now.
- 44:32Speaker 1: And then a pure raisin center.
- 44:36Speaker 3: You never want to get to the center. I wish
- 44:38Speaker 3: I didn't get to that center.
- 44:40Speaker 1: That's when you have to stop. Yeah, I do like
- 44:43Speaker 1: a raisinet. Do you like a raisinet?
- 44:45Speaker 3: You can't argue with a raisinet?
- 44:47Speaker 1: I mean, I love her pick a raisin.
- 44:49Speaker 3: Thank you, exactly. I'm right there with you.
- 44:51Speaker 1: But if I'm in a movie theater and a friend
- 44:53Speaker 1: has them and they shake it into my hand, I'll
- 44:54Speaker 1: eat one.
- 44:55Speaker 3: Yeah, they're fun.
- 44:56Speaker 1: It's probably the best version of a raisin.
- 44:58Speaker 3: It is cover it and damn chalk.
- 45:00Speaker 1: And then you never see a raisin in a salad,
- 45:02Speaker 1: although you see crasins. So I think that that's a
- 45:04Speaker 1: real clear there's something going on.
- 45:07Speaker 3: There's something happening with the raisin.
- 45:09Speaker 1: If someone gave me a raisin in a like a
- 45:11Speaker 1: lettuce salad.
- 45:12Speaker 3: The raisin needs some anti depressants because there's something sound
- 45:18Speaker 3: with the raisin.
- 45:19Speaker 1: Has a mood disorder.
- 45:22Speaker 3: You know, the poor raisin. It's it's not really going.
- 45:26Speaker 1: To change mind. Yeah, there's nothing they can do. There's
- 45:30Speaker 1: no it's got to be a frustrating business.
- 45:32Speaker 3: To be the yogurt raisin.
- 45:34Speaker 1: Oh, terrible, awful. I'd rather get a yogurt pretzel. Yogurt
- 45:38Speaker 1: pretzel there we go, which is essentially now just a
- 45:40Speaker 1: chocolate pretzel. Why am I not eating a chocolate pretzel?
- 45:44Speaker 1: But you can convince yourself.
- 45:46Speaker 3: What about those dark chocolate ones from uh Trader Joe's
- 45:49Speaker 3: Dark Chocolate Pretzels?
- 45:51Speaker 1: Oh, I have a bag in my cupboard right now.
- 45:53Speaker 1: Oh those delicious, so good. I don't buy them very
- 45:56Speaker 1: often because you can't. It's irresistible thing to rest. One
- 46:00Speaker 1: of the best things you can eat is a chocolate pretzel. Yes,
- 46:03Speaker 1: and it's the right, It's not too sweet. It's really
- 46:07Speaker 1: a perfect snack because it's a dark chocolate right, exactly,
- 46:11Speaker 1: so nice. That's the trick. Should I get back in here? Okay?
- 46:18Speaker 1: There for so many things.
- 46:19Speaker 3: I know, it's really it started ramping up towards the end.
- 46:25Speaker 1: Fantastic.
- 46:25Speaker 3: Okay, So that's the tape that I went into the
- 46:28Speaker 3: liquor store for which they did have, but I was
- 46:30Speaker 3: sitting in my car with eight minutes to get in here.
- 46:33Speaker 3: Try to open the tab and good luck, enjoy that
- 46:35Speaker 3: gift because you won't be able to actually open the
- 46:37Speaker 3: tape as I wasn't to finish wrapping the gift, which
- 46:40Speaker 3: I would have wrapped because I love a wrapping with tape.
- 46:44Speaker 3: Go ahead and try to even though there's a tab
- 46:47Speaker 3: with arrows on it.
- 46:49Speaker 1: Yeah, oh wow, this tape.
- 46:52Speaker 3: And I said, I'm done with you. This is now
- 46:54Speaker 3: part of the gift.
- 46:55Speaker 1: It's literally unopenable. This is we'll say it's a Basik product.
- 46:59Speaker 1: This is a basic take. And you see how I
- 47:01Speaker 1: ripped the top.
- 47:02Speaker 3: Off to try to get closer, to try to get
- 47:04Speaker 3: my hands in there.
- 47:05Speaker 1: It's like an animal got to this.
- 47:07Speaker 3: Yeah, have a version against packaging.
- 47:11Speaker 1: I've never seen that.
- 47:12Speaker 3: I enjoy wrapping the Basic brand. I wonder if that
- 47:16Speaker 3: your socks are also that brand.
- 47:18Speaker 1: It's a whole. It's like ACME or something. Let's see here,
- 47:22Speaker 1: this is impossible.
- 47:23Speaker 3: I've given you.
- 47:24Speaker 1: You have to exactly how I'm cutting at your fingers
- 47:27Speaker 1: when you're trying to get to it. Yes, I would
- 47:30Speaker 1: love to open this in front of you, though, just
- 47:32Speaker 1: to show you up.
- 47:33Speaker 3: I know I can feel it. I already know that's
- 47:35Speaker 3: what you're doing. And then you'd go, oh see, I
- 47:38Speaker 3: got it. But really what you meant is see I
- 47:41Speaker 3: got it and you did it, that's what you mean.
- 47:44Speaker 1: But it's unopened, worthless.
- 47:46Speaker 3: Now we're back on the same team of not being
- 47:48Speaker 3: able to open it, and you gave it more of
- 47:50Speaker 3: a chance than I did.
- 47:52Speaker 1: Wow, this is I cannot imagine. Yeah, the basic brand
- 47:58Speaker 1: is be a Z went on their way to.
- 48:04Speaker 3: That tab and it's but they didn't think to actually
- 48:07Speaker 3: make it a tab.
- 48:10Speaker 1: Wow, this is and I I really.
- 48:13Speaker 3: Think they made a tab that's not a real tab.
- 48:15Speaker 1: No, this is this thing with the arrows is meaningless.
- 48:18Speaker 1: That doesn't indicate anything. I wonder if you were to
- 48:22Speaker 1: dare I pull it completely open? Well, sure, we're gonnah,
- 48:28Speaker 1: and then you've missed the metal. Miss the metal. I
- 48:31Speaker 1: wonder if you can take this on an airplane. The
- 48:33Speaker 1: little edges there, that's.
- 48:36Speaker 3: My tape that I carry her out for a good luck.
- 48:40Speaker 1: That's yeah, Okay, I'm giving up. I mean, I will
- 48:42Speaker 1: say I'm usually not good at opening anything, you know,
- 48:45Speaker 1: like a jar.
- 48:46Speaker 3: Now I want to give it another try.
- 48:47Speaker 1: Try.
- 48:49Speaker 3: There's no way. You've just given it so many tries.
- 48:51Speaker 1: And you actually have nails able to think get some
- 48:54Speaker 1: traction there. I can feel the edge, but it just
- 48:58Speaker 1: is so it's barely there. It's ah, it's barely there,
- 49:03Speaker 1: hint of an edge.
- 49:05Speaker 3: I have cat eyeliner all over my fingers from crying
- 49:10Speaker 3: from crying about that book. Oh god, I can see it.
- 49:16Speaker 3: I can see the edge.
- 49:17Speaker 1: Shouldn't it be satisfying to get that open?
- 49:19Speaker 3: Yeah? It would. And maybe that's the purpose of this,
- 49:22Speaker 3: is to just let you not be satisfied and live
- 49:26Speaker 3: in that place of zen.
- 49:27Speaker 1: And I'll say that it looks like the liquor store
- 49:29Speaker 1: has put a price tag over a price tag. So
- 49:31Speaker 1: I wonder if that used to be more and they
- 49:33Speaker 1: were like, no one's gonna be able to open this.
- 49:35Speaker 1: Cut it the price in half. Wow, it's a useless product,
- 49:40Speaker 1: but almost a collector's item. Then that's something you can
- 49:43Speaker 1: put on a mantle.
- 49:43Speaker 3: That's right.
- 49:45Speaker 1: So what Paine that can never open?
- 49:47Speaker 3: It's a point of reflection, like a little sand those
- 49:52Speaker 3: meditation things.
- 49:53Speaker 1: Or it's like a stress ball or something. You could
- 49:55Speaker 1: have this in a meeting at a company. You can
- 49:57Speaker 1: just picking at it trying to get it open all day,
- 50:00Speaker 1: just stressing out. So walk me through this gift buying process.
- 50:04Speaker 1: You got the trail mix.
- 50:07Speaker 3: Okay, the trail mix, I almost brought in the bag
- 50:09Speaker 3: of a variety of snacks that was in my car
- 50:13Speaker 3: just to out myself, because I was like, this is great.
- 50:16Speaker 3: I prefer to eat like this. It's probably. I had
- 50:18Speaker 3: also from the Trader Joe's the cheese and crackers, the
- 50:21Speaker 3: mini cheese and crackers.
- 50:22Speaker 1: Oh, I've never had this talk about you.
- 50:24Speaker 3: Want to go through the box as you start eating it,
- 50:27Speaker 3: you want to get through the whole box. The dried mango, Oh,
- 50:31Speaker 3: sure of course. Oh. I had a lot of Trader
- 50:33Speaker 3: Joe's items. And then the pecans with the sweet and salty.
- 50:36Speaker 1: Oh I love those, boy, or the sesame cashews. Have
- 50:40Speaker 1: you had those?
- 50:41Speaker 3: Yes? Not as often. I'll revisit those. Thank you for
- 50:45Speaker 3: reminding me. I don't. I love a cashew, and I
- 50:47Speaker 3: think I'm so I'm so partial towards the pecan that
- 50:50Speaker 3: I've forgotten about the.
- 50:51Speaker 1: Cast so interesting I've got to get I will revisit.
- 50:53Speaker 3: Okay, So those are my three all. And then I
- 50:58Speaker 3: also had a beef jerky, which I did not.
- 50:59Speaker 1: I did notice the beef jerky in your bed, and
- 51:01Speaker 1: I get that it's a brand name.
- 51:04Speaker 3: This was all my breakfast and that those were all
- 51:06Speaker 3: the items because I could mix and match.
- 51:08Speaker 1: All the ways here saying you've got a little protein.
- 51:11Speaker 3: And then I and then I said, I'm going to
- 51:13Speaker 3: give this as a gift because I can't eat any
- 51:15Speaker 3: more of that. It's it's too big of a bag
- 51:17Speaker 3: for one person, and so to keep eating.
- 51:19Speaker 1: Then you were at the Then you went to the
- 51:21Speaker 1: liquor store.
- 51:23Speaker 3: Oh, I went to the liquor store because I thought
- 51:25Speaker 3: I'd love to wrap these and I have a few minutes.
- 51:27Speaker 3: Let me see if they have tape. And they did,
- 51:29Speaker 3: and here we are. There still is more than there's
- 51:34Speaker 3: more in the bag that these are not even I
- 51:37Speaker 3: think what you're getting item here, this is actually was
- 51:40Speaker 3: the original actual gift. It's a real gift.
- 51:44Speaker 1: This is an actual thing that I actually need to
- 51:45Speaker 1: explain to me. Yeah, what is this? It seems like
- 51:49Speaker 1: a mustache keychain is what my initial guess would be.
- 51:52Speaker 3: Close.
- 51:53Speaker 1: What is It's like a furry little First.
- 51:55Speaker 3: Of all, it's made out of real steal skin.
- 51:58Speaker 1: What Yeah.
- 52:02Speaker 3: Second of all, I'm gonna start writing in your notebook
- 52:06Speaker 3: about this. It's from Callowit, Nunavut, which is in the
- 52:12Speaker 3: Canadian Arctic. Okay, you take a plane to Toronto, you
- 52:16Speaker 3: take another plane to Ottawa. You get on an airline
- 52:19Speaker 3: called Canadian North and you from Ottawa go another three
- 52:24Speaker 3: hours north. This is from just outside the Arctic Circle.
- 52:27Speaker 1: What Yeah, when were you there?
- 52:29Speaker 3: I was there filming a TV show. See this is
- 52:32Speaker 3: real coming in bring in the juice like that bitch
- 52:35Speaker 3: talked about trail mix for twee in the car for
- 52:40Speaker 3: forty minutes. Now I'm telling you about a TV show
- 52:43Speaker 3: that I'm on that.
- 52:44Speaker 1: We How long were you up there for?
- 52:48Speaker 3: For three months? It's a show called North of North
- 52:51Speaker 3: which has started to air in Canada and it's airing
- 52:54Speaker 3: on Netflix, but it's coming out. If you go to
- 52:57Speaker 3: my Instagram, you'll see I've like post about it because
- 53:01Speaker 3: and I've started to post about it because it's airy
- 53:02Speaker 3: in Canada and I will be doing more. It'll be
- 53:05Speaker 3: on Netflix in the spring. They haven't given us a date,
- 53:08Speaker 3: but yeah, really fantastic show. I'm really proud of it.
- 53:11Speaker 3: I play the white lady on the show for you,
- 53:14Speaker 3: and it's about an Inuit woman who is trying to
- 53:17Speaker 3: break out of her shell because she's married to the
- 53:20Speaker 3: like best seal hunter in the town. Everybody knows, everybody
- 53:23Speaker 3: and she's trying to become herself.
- 53:25Speaker 1: Yes, right, right.
- 53:26Speaker 3: And I'm like the Karen gatekeeper, who's you know, sort
- 53:31Speaker 3: of like, you don't know. Am I a terrible person?
- 53:34Speaker 3: Am I a helper? Do we need each other? Am
- 53:37Speaker 3: I a gatekeeper? Am I lifting her up? Am I?
- 53:41Speaker 1: You know?
- 53:41Speaker 3: Heartfelt but ignorant. It's a really cool part because it's
- 53:44Speaker 3: not a straight up bitchy Karen. It's it's a Karen with.
- 53:47Speaker 1: Like depth and Karen we all know and love.
- 53:51Speaker 3: Thank you. And my character is married to an Inuit man,
- 53:54Speaker 3: so I've lived in their culture for you know, over
- 53:57Speaker 3: twenty years or whatever. But but yeah, it was really
- 54:00Speaker 3: cool show.
- 54:00Speaker 1: And what was it like living up there?
- 54:02Speaker 3: It was it's it's wild, it's wild.
- 54:06Speaker 1: Just freezing cold all the time.
- 54:07Speaker 3: It's freezing cold all the time. I arrived in March
- 54:10Speaker 3: and it was twenty below and by the beginning of
- 54:13Speaker 3: June when I left, it was thirty two degrease bahrenheit
- 54:17Speaker 3: And that's warm when it's thirty two or thirty three.
- 54:20Speaker 1: And are you seeing like crazy wildlife, any sort of
- 54:24Speaker 1: polar bear or anything like this?
- 54:27Speaker 3: What they say is, you know, polar bear hasn't walked
- 54:30Speaker 3: in town since nineteen sixty two or whatever. Oh interesting,
- 54:34Speaker 3: it could happen, but it's not going to right. And
- 54:36Speaker 3: also the way the landscape has sort of now, I
- 54:40Speaker 3: can't remember if I think it's a combo of things,
- 54:44Speaker 3: because there as soon as you land, you see seal hunters.
- 54:47Speaker 3: There's a road where we were staying, and and there's
- 54:50Speaker 3: a series of like inlets, so where we're staying is
- 54:53Speaker 3: more flat and the city was developed by the military.
- 54:58Speaker 3: And I can't remember why. I the polar bears were
- 55:02Speaker 3: closer years ago, and now maybe just the landscape has shifted,
- 55:07Speaker 3: so you have to go out a little further to
- 55:09Speaker 3: do your ice fishing and your seal hunting. And yeah,
- 55:15Speaker 3: I don't it's funny now. I don't know, because I've
- 55:17Speaker 3: certainly met a lot of people that then go to
- 55:19Speaker 3: the territories even outside of where we were. So where
- 55:22Speaker 3: we were, it was like there's the town and then
- 55:24Speaker 3: there's just a vast landscape, yes, right, And so a
- 55:28Speaker 3: lot of people we met were like, oh, I'm from
- 55:30Speaker 3: this territory that's even further And I kind of forgot
- 55:34Speaker 3: how their frequency of if they're seeing polar bears on
- 55:37Speaker 3: the rag interesting And I got to do a dog
- 55:41Speaker 3: sled ride.
- 55:42Speaker 1: I was curious about this. How was that experience?
- 55:44Speaker 3: Incredible? Incredible?
- 55:47Speaker 1: Is it? How fast are you going when these dogs
- 55:49Speaker 1: are pulling you?
- 55:50Speaker 3: You it's very deceiving because you're sitting there and it
- 55:54Speaker 3: doesn't look like it's fast. And then they tell you, hey,
- 55:57Speaker 3: hop off the back and you try to run and
- 56:00Speaker 3: it's like, oh like you it's it's really hard and
- 56:05Speaker 3: you feel like you're gonna fall on your face.
- 56:07Speaker 1: Oh my god.
- 56:08Speaker 3: Then you have to run and catch up and jump
- 56:10Speaker 3: back on the sleds. Yeah, they're they're they're hauling.
- 56:12Speaker 1: And how many dogs are pulling you at once?
- 56:15Speaker 3: I think eight or something?
- 56:18Speaker 1: Interesting?
- 56:19Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 56:20Speaker 1: Was it frightening? Do you feel in control of the dogs? Like? Oh,
- 56:25Speaker 1: I saw you were a passenger? Or were you the driver?
- 56:27Speaker 3: Yeah? No, no, no, we're not the driver? No no,
- 56:30Speaker 3: what did they call that? The the mush musher Ours
- 56:34Speaker 3: was led by a dad and then his daughter. I
- 56:38Speaker 3: think there was one other person helping. So you arrive,
- 56:42Speaker 3: you pull up and you can see them far away,
- 56:45Speaker 3: so you've parked, and then you walk down, you trek down.
- 56:48Speaker 3: I mean it's all there's no trees, so it's all ice.
- 56:51Speaker 3: So you walk down a little embankment and then you
- 56:54Speaker 3: get down and all the dogs. There was two teams
- 56:56Speaker 3: and they're just chilling sitting outside. They never go inside.
- 57:01Speaker 3: These huskies wore wild animals, but yet you are allowed
- 57:05Speaker 3: to go up and touch them just like they're they're
- 57:09Speaker 3: like dogs, but.
- 57:10Speaker 1: Like like very close to their answers.
- 57:12Speaker 3: Yeah, they're kind of wild, so you're like, oh, it's
- 57:16Speaker 3: like they're not scary, but they're a little bit like
- 57:19Speaker 3: if you had a wild dog that was just running
- 57:21Speaker 3: into you really and it was kind of stinky, you know,
- 57:26Speaker 3: although it was cold seat or like kind of like
- 57:28Speaker 3: a little dirty, you know, maybe maybe.
- 57:31Speaker 2: They have.
- 57:34Speaker 3: Squiggled around in some seal guts or something, who knows,
- 57:38Speaker 3: who knows. No, they were clean. I don't know. I
- 57:40Speaker 3: don't know why I'm going down that road. They're they're
- 57:42Speaker 3: outdoor dogs. They were very very clean and well kept
- 57:45Speaker 3: by their owners. And then and that's their job. And uh,
- 57:49Speaker 3: we had the daughter taking us, so we both had sleds.
- 57:52Speaker 3: I mean, it's a total tourist thing, but this is
- 57:56Speaker 3: their real team of dogs that has been carried down
- 57:59Speaker 3: through tradition, so they do use the dogs to go
- 58:03Speaker 3: out on the land for whatever run errands.
- 58:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 58:09Speaker 3: So yeah, we're passengers and then the daughters in front
- 58:12Speaker 3: of us and it's me and one other person.
- 58:14Speaker 1: That's how big the little sled is.
- 58:16Speaker 3: And then there's a kind of a ledge and it's
- 58:18Speaker 3: just you know, by a ledge on the back you
- 58:21Speaker 3: can stand. And then a person goes in front of
- 58:24Speaker 3: us on a snowmobile just to you know.
- 58:27Speaker 1: Because it's sure just to show off, just to.
- 58:30Speaker 3: Show off and be in communication with the other.
- 58:34Speaker 1: There aren't any dangers.
- 58:35Speaker 3: Oh no, I know what it is. We then you
- 58:38Speaker 3: ride the snowmobile back, so you sweach.
- 58:41Speaker 1: Interesting.
- 58:42Speaker 3: That's that's how big.
- 58:43Speaker 1: Our group was.
- 58:43Speaker 3: So depending on your group, you couldn't. Yeah, and then
- 58:47Speaker 3: you get this sled on the way back. But it's
- 58:49Speaker 3: I mean, it's an all day Where do.
- 58:50Speaker 1: You go just further out in the Arctic that's the thing.
- 58:55Speaker 3: Wow, that's the thing that was so amazing because you're
- 59:00Speaker 3: your eyes. It's such a vast nothingness that you can't avoid. Yeah,
- 59:06Speaker 3: a really beautiful void.
- 59:07Speaker 1: Wow.
- 59:08Speaker 3: I loved it.
- 59:09Speaker 1: And did you have to like bundle up completely?
- 59:12Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 59:13Speaker 1: What are you crazy?
- 59:16Speaker 3: I mean it ended up being fine, but going into it,
- 59:19Speaker 3: this was probably the most worried about bundling up. I
- 59:23Speaker 3: was the whole trip, just because it's like, then you
- 59:25Speaker 3: get out there and what if I'm a big baby
- 59:27Speaker 3: and I'm like I'm getting frost bit and you can't
- 59:30Speaker 3: like there's nothing you could do. Yeah, every other place
- 59:33Speaker 3: I was there was some type of escape, and you
- 59:37Speaker 3: definitely are out in the elements. But you know that
- 59:40Speaker 3: I knew how to do it by that time. You
- 59:42Speaker 3: have a certain amount of socks.
- 59:44Speaker 1: Do they bring up picnic? What are you eating out there?
- 59:47Speaker 3: Nothing?
- 59:48Speaker 1: Nothing, you'd bring your own snacks. Did you bring a
- 59:52Speaker 1: trail mix?
- 59:52Speaker 3: What did you bring? Yeah?
- 59:53Speaker 1: I think we had a We had a bar and
- 59:57Speaker 1: a little bit of water.
- 59:58Speaker 3: But that's on you. That's where your brain went.
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: Of course, I'm wondering what was happening the lunch situation.
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: But then you come back at night.
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: No, I okay, I was exaggerating. It was probably a
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: lot of lies. No one lie all. I mean, I
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: get And I wasn't even lying all day for a
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: for going straight out into the Arctic.
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: Okay, in this place, the story is falling apart as
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: we speak.
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: It may have been four hours.
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: Four hours, that's a long time.
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: It is.
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: It is in the middle of it is nothing.
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: It really is. Wow.
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: I don't know if I could do it. I don't
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: know how strong. I appreciate that.
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: And you will look in that notebook. There's a ticket.
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: This trail mix is for you out on the sled.
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: That tape is what's going to keep you on the sled.
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: You get into a weapon, yeah, defend myself out.
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: Keychain is for the keys and keep you warm the
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: ski do Yeah, you're gonna get on your hog and
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: take your skidoo out on on on the trail and
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: get yourself some seal to feed the whole family. And
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: by the way, it's instantly normal when you land the
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: seal hunting.
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: Oh, it's just if I try to tell people.
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: But I was in such a immersed in the culture
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: that when I came back, I wanted I kind of
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: wanted to share this profound thing. And a lot of
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: people are just like they're interested, and then they're like, no, no.
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: It's hard to.
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: In yeah. Right, And if you say something like seal
- 1:01:34Speaker 3: hunting in La, if you even say that phrase.
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: It's a tough thing to hear out loud.
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: Yeah, you don't want to say that out loud, but
- 1:01:41Speaker 3: when you're there, you just immediately are like, oh, this is.
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: This is what they've done culture right.
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: Centuries and this is how they sustain and will feed
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: up family.
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: Right with every part of the seal. It's not a
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: Cruella de Ville situation. That's what you're going to start
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: exactly way. But now I do own you're going, yes, seals.
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: What is a pelt seal?
- 1:02:09Speaker 3: Fur? Oh, and the shape of that is an ulu
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: and so the top it's just the design, but the
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: real thing is a tool that's like a knife for everything. Yeah,
- 1:02:22Speaker 3: and it's a very sharp blade. And so they'll have
- 1:02:24Speaker 3: their frozen caribou is like their sushi. So you can
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: get the carcass and you're cutting little slivers off of
- 1:02:31Speaker 3: that and dipping it in soy sauce.
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: Did you eat that?
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: I sure did.
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: How was it? It was not bad?
- 1:02:38Speaker 3: It definitely has like a bit of an aftertaste, which
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: I could see, not unlike sushi. Once you get used
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: to the taste, you start to crave it. I did
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: not get to that point with it. And then there
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: was one day because we had quite a few casts
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: and crew, well all the crewmember most of the crew
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: members that are from there or I'm a different territory
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: and one of the ladies you know on the WhatsApp
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: she said, well, I have Walworths if you want to,
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: and I just I was like I can't. Whatever was
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: going on with me that day, I was just like,
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: I'm not ready. And then I never got the chance
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: to do that again.
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: Right, I don't entirely blame you. That's the thing you
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: have to, I think, prepare for mentally.
- 1:03:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I wasn't prepared. I should have been because I
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: had been there for a while.
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: But sure, but maybe just wasn't for it that day.
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: Sometimes you're not in the mood for a reason.
- 1:03:34Speaker 3: I'm in my room with my trail mix Walrus.
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: Wow. Okay, Well, I'm thrilled to have this. I feel
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: like I'm gonna get red paint thrown on me. Pete's
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: coming for me. Don't tell anybody what it is. It's
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: our secret. It's our little secret. This will all be
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: edited out the last half hour of the podcast.
- 1:03:54Speaker 3: You know, if somebody is a fan of the podcast
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: and they want to find you and throw red paint
- 1:04:02Speaker 3: on you, good for them. Yeah, then that's.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: That's somebody with a real they've got something, passion, hobby,
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: It's ultimately a hobby.
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: I want to believe that people that have heard about
- 1:04:19Speaker 3: that on this podcast right now will respect.
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: I think so absolutely.
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: And then for the ones that don't, you just lie
- 1:04:28Speaker 3: and say, oh, it's not real, seal skin? Are you crazy?
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: Who do you think I am?
- 1:04:35Speaker 3: Who do you? Who are you? And who do you
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: think I am? And how dare you you pull one
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: of those? Just right back at you. You know, I'm
- 1:04:47Speaker 3: gonna a cone of my own energy.
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: Yes, people.
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: Go the opposite way, make them accept that.
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: It, yeah, exactly, kind of force them into my polue system, which,
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: by way of me visit the Arctic. Respect.
- 1:05:11Speaker 3: Wow.
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: Wow, Wow, Well, is there anything left we should say
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: about this? It's so soft, isn't it. Yeah, it's unbelievably so.
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: There's a lot left on the table. But I feel
- 1:05:21Speaker 3: we've said enough.
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: Said enough. We should play a game. Then, Okay, we're
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: gonna play a game called Gift You're a curse. I
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: need a number between one and ten from you to
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: say out loud, yeah.
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: You're not gonna pull my card or anything.
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: This becomes all right? Okay. I have to use that
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: number to do some light calculating to get our game pieces.
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: So right now you can promote, recommend to whatever you want.
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: I'll be right back.
- 1:05:46Speaker 3: Hey everybody, my name's Marylyn mis Cup. I'd like to
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: promote Kroger Trail makes. Try it out. It's pretty cool.
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: It's yet M and M's almonds cash us. I think
- 1:06:00Speaker 3: I think we've already covered that. Don't really need to
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: plug that. But please please find me on social media.
- 1:06:08Speaker 3: If you follow me on TikTok, maybe TikTok will be saved.
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: Think about it like that. Maybe they'll say, oh, Marylyn's
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: just starting to get followers. We're going to reverse the
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: ruling and we're gonna keep TikTok. We're not afraid of
- 1:06:24Speaker 3: the Chinese. There are friends.
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: TikTok. By the time this is released, I guess will
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: be done.
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I sure will. I know, as I was saying that,
- 1:06:33Speaker 3: I realized, I mean, it's on, it's on like Donkey
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: Kong in like two days from now or something.
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: Unless some horrible person here bies it, that very well
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: could happen.
- 1:06:44Speaker 3: What a world that we live in, We really don't
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: know like that could happen. Oh yeah, and also I
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: don't even understand.
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: How how they buy a tour now? How sorry?
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: How is this a thing with the Supreme Court? Aren't
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: there multiple other ways that we're getting disinformation and we're
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: getting a cat from other countries?
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: Facebook? Instagram?
- 1:07:10Speaker 3: Well that's our that's our own. We're doing it to ourselves.
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: Well, but all these countries are also vulnerable.
- 1:07:16Speaker 3: So how is it this big stand against TikTok. It's
- 1:07:19Speaker 3: like none of this is regulated and we're getting by
- 1:07:23Speaker 3: bots all the time, So how is this It seems
- 1:07:27Speaker 3: like we're this is where we lose. We're humans going,
- 1:07:32Speaker 3: we're going to pass a law on this. It's like
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: it's done.
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: It's not gonna protect everybody. Half of our brains are gone.
- 1:07:39Speaker 3: Half of everything I watch is built by Russia, half
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: of the emotional tie I have to anything I see online?
- 1:07:49Speaker 3: Did you see on Instagram? They're like, we're going to
- 1:07:52Speaker 3: start this was a couple of weeks ago, putting AI.
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: Users like immediately like racist caricatures of people for.
- 1:08:03Speaker 3: Things that you like that'll make you feel good.
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: That's dark.
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: It's so dark, So that's what it's going to be.
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: It simply doesn't solve any problem. There was no one
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: was hoping to have a computer friend. No one, that's
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: just like based.
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: On Hey, it's better for comedy, am I right? Come
- 1:08:24Speaker 3: see me comedy somewhere else? I can't remember. You got
- 1:08:32Speaker 3: a full roster.
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: Okay, this is how we play Gift or a Curse.
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: I'm gonna name three things and then you tell me
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: if they are a gift or a curse and why,
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: and then I'll tell you if you're right or wrong.
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: Because there are correct answers, you can lose, you can
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: also win. You can also be in between and be
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: kind of just feel bad for the rest of the day.
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: So be careful.
- 1:08:53Speaker 3: You're urging me to make a strong choice.
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: Yeah, just be can mess up the name, Okay, I'll
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: be careful of warning. Okay, does that feel pretty clear
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: to you?
- 1:09:03Speaker 3: Yes?
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: I mean, who why? There's been a lot of red
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: flags with me. There's been a lot of red flags.
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: I've been we've been coming up to this game, and
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: I thought this might not get like she.
- 1:09:16Speaker 3: Couldn't get through world literature or a reading comprehension test
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: the author of the book she's reading right now.
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: They let her really spell out.
- 1:09:27Speaker 3: The rule die.
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: Okay. This first one is from a listener named Emily.
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: The suggestion is gift her a curse. You're taking a
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: photo of your family when a stranger offers to take
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: the photo for you so you can be in the
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: picture too. Curse why fuck you?
- 1:09:48Speaker 3: Micromanagement? Oh you think I want to be in the picture.
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: I'm against that. I'm against the group picture in general.
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: Just leave me alone.
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: Correct curse pervert alerts say out of our family's business.
- 1:10:05Speaker 3: Yes, I didn't go quite so far as pervert, but yes,
- 1:10:09Speaker 3: right there with you.
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: We don't know you. Also, you might be bad at
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: taking pictures, and then we're stuck with your bad photo.
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: There's no element of this that we could trust. They
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: might take the phone.
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: Run how fast can you run? Yes, exactly my phone.
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: I don't want you anywhere near me or my family.
- 1:10:27Speaker 3: That'd be kind of cool if somebody did it and
- 1:10:29Speaker 3: then just threw it over the bridge. Now you have
- 1:10:32Speaker 3: a memory of your phone in the Thames Thames.
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: That's I support that great?
- 1:10:40Speaker 3: How great would that be?
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: You would talk about that for the rest of your life.
- 1:10:44Speaker 3: And you know what, I wouldn't even press charges because
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: it too much work. I'd be like, give me your ID,
- 1:10:51Speaker 3: let me call the police. Like what it'd be like
- 1:10:55Speaker 3: pissed and then all your rage. Yeah, and you would
- 1:10:59Speaker 3: come together as a You think a photo's gonna make
- 1:11:01Speaker 3: you come together?
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: No, this is a common animate Yes, who has shocked
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: you and thrown away your device, Thank you and probably
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: helped you. That'd be great.
- 1:11:11Speaker 3: More people, just takes and rivers.
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: We need this straight into the Grand Canyon. Yes, okay,
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: well you got one right so far, very good. Number
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: two this is from a listener named Mark. Gift or
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: a curse unpacking boxes you forgot about for a year
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: after you moved. Oh curse, why throw it away? You
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: forgot about it?
- 1:11:34Speaker 3: It's done, goodbye.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: Curse wrong.
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: No, oh you're going to open it and get sentimental. Oh,
- 1:11:46Speaker 3: here's the tape I could never open. Here's the trail mags,
- 1:11:51Speaker 3: here's the sealskin keychain.
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: It's a gift. Well, these are great gifts.
- 1:11:57Speaker 3: This is an excellent every gift I gave you.
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: Everything you gave me is I will be selling me.
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: I'll be getting on Craigslist and listening ebaying these things.
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: Bag half bag of trail makes Now.
- 1:12:08Speaker 3: I put my heart in this gift and you.
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: Know it absolutely, And you went above and beyond. You
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: even tried to open the tape.
- 1:12:15Speaker 3: But these fails, we both have a notebook to reflect,
- 1:12:20Speaker 3: reflect together.
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: Remember, but you you did lose this point. It's a
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: gift to unpack a box you forgot about a year. Okay,
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: you might you know your life is being shifted in
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: all new ways. Maybe it's dragging you back into the past.
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: What's an experience.
- 1:12:38Speaker 3: It's like you're coming to my side. See, you can't
- 1:12:43Speaker 3: even say you're you know that. You know that's not good.
- 1:12:46Speaker 3: As you're saying it, you're like, go back into the path.
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: Boo when any racket you lost and you're thinking, I.
- 1:12:55Speaker 3: Look like, let me get her off the You know
- 1:12:57Speaker 3: I did go through a box of photos.
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: Okay, now you're coming to my side.
- 1:13:03Speaker 3: I am. I don't know if it was worth it.
- 1:13:06Speaker 3: Maybe my child, but yeah maybe. And then there was
- 1:13:11Speaker 3: a bunch of pictures the nineties, super nostalgic. But also
- 1:13:15Speaker 3: but why.
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: Because you gotta have that on occasion, a little taste
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: of nostalgia. You need to have it on occasion. I'm
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: back on your side, okay, number three.
- 1:13:26Speaker 3: You know that's mostly a curse.
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: Though you're not getting me, You will not get me.
- 1:13:34Speaker 3: That's a real hard line. That was unnecessary and hurtful.
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: Okay. Number three This is from a listener name to
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: Rachel Gift for a curse when a child actor is
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: replaced in a TV show.
- 1:13:51Speaker 3: My investment level in that is low. You know I'm
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: gonna go curse. I feel like I'm I'm gonna go curse.
- 1:14:01Speaker 3: I feel like you're gonna go the opposite way.
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: You just have kind of no feeling about it.
- 1:14:05Speaker 3: No, I'm gonna say curse because that if they are
- 1:14:08Speaker 3: replacing that actor, that means they fed up in the
- 1:14:11Speaker 3: first place, and that the show is already tanking and
- 1:14:15Speaker 3: they think firing a child is going to make it better. No, sir, no,
- 1:14:21Speaker 3: you don't do that, or the or the kid has
- 1:14:23Speaker 3: changed their look or aged out. You're done right to
- 1:14:28Speaker 3: be a better writer. Make the child get lost and
- 1:14:33Speaker 3: never come back. That's better and I'm correct and I'm
- 1:14:38Speaker 3: correct wrong.
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: Sorry, No, Gift. I love when the child gets replaced.
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: They should be replacing the child every scene like they
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: do with dogs. I think that the child, just like you,
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: should be so disoriented by this casting. I'm back children
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: out of the studio, bring the next one in.
- 1:14:57Speaker 3: You're right, I'm wrong, and I will also, that's very funny.
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: Madmen classic show. They replaced the Bobby Don Draper's son
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: got play so many times.
- 1:15:07Speaker 3: That's right.
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: There was always a little something.
- 1:15:09Speaker 3: I don't even remember that. That's how much you're correct.
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: The original one was. Then with children, they all look
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: the same.
- 1:15:18Speaker 3: They're interchangeable.
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: They're all just little clones, little annoying clones. You can
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: throw them in there, I say, replace them as often
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: as possible, even with camera changes. Let's say you know
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: it's just a new child, a gift. You got one
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: out of three?
- 1:15:37Speaker 3: What no, I got two out of three? You're wrong
- 1:15:40Speaker 3: about that?
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: You got one out of three? You can.
- 1:15:43Speaker 3: You're incorrect and you know it in your heart, moving
- 1:15:46Speaker 3: on in your heart.
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: Okay, Well, honlys do you have your thing?
- 1:15:52Speaker 3: I do? I do?
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: Okay? Is this is holysts one round of PA like
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: your boy and at least has a great voice onals
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: is going to present one that neither of us is
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: going to do, and we're going to both try and
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: then they're going to give us the correct answer. So
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: what are we talking about here?
- 1:16:10Speaker 4: Onal's well, earlier Bridger, you mentioned that you were in
- 1:16:14Speaker 4: need of a shower, So this is about when you shower,
- 1:16:18Speaker 4: so gift or a curse? Showering at night.
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: I'll speak to this. I think it's a gift. I
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: think showering at night is so wonderful. It feels great
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: after a long, disgusting day to be in the shower
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: cleaning yourself off, and then you're relaxed. It's not like
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: the morning shower where you have to end it quickly.
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: You can hop in there and it's more of a
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: let's we're just relaxing. We're not going back to work.
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: We're getting into bed and keeping our sheets clean. I
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: don't do it that often, though, it's more of a
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: little treat the same.
- 1:16:54Speaker 3: It's a gift.
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: Am I the same?
- 1:16:56Speaker 3: I don't do it often either.
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: You probably do it more often.
- 1:17:00Speaker 3: We do it tonight and then when we get in bed,
- 1:17:02Speaker 3: right in our notebook.
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: Oh that's great. But I think there are people who
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: will only shower at night. But I have to do both.
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: I can't start a day without showering, So then am
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: I being wasteful if I'm doing double showers.
- 1:17:14Speaker 3: I've started a day without showering.
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: Never in my life.
- 1:17:18Speaker 3: Are you someone who will get up and get ready
- 1:17:20Speaker 3: no matter what.
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: Almost make your bed and get dressed. Yes, even like
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: during early COVID, I was like, I would get up.
- 1:17:27Speaker 3: That's really smart. I aspire to be you, and I
- 1:17:30Speaker 3: would like to I would like to invite myself back
- 1:17:33Speaker 3: on the podcast. And at some point, and when you
- 1:17:37Speaker 3: invite me back, you say, have you started getting dressed
- 1:17:41Speaker 3: in something other than sweatpants?
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: That'll be a life check in. Yeah, I'm going to
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: call you in the middle of another episode, or.
- 1:17:48Speaker 3: Am I excommunicating? Just tell me I don't even better
- 1:17:51Speaker 3: care absolutely, and then then I'll do that to cover up.
- 1:17:55Speaker 3: I don't even care.
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: No, It's very rare that I'm in a I mean
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: there are days every once in a while I'm in
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: a robe until eleven thirty. But okay, for the most part.
- 1:18:06Speaker 3: Saying that, for.
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: The most part, I'm like, I feel just better and
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: ready to go, even despite the fact that I rarely
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: have anything to do.
- 1:18:12Speaker 3: Ever, and what pont are you putting on? Like a gene?
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: A gene, I will say. On the other side of
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: the day, though, I used to wear jeans up until
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: I went to bed. I would wear my full day's
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: outfit until I was done watching TV and everything. Then
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: I would switch into pajamas. And I've only in the
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: last couple of years allowed myself to be like, Okay,
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: I'm not going out. It's time. Like we're at the
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: point of the day where I'm in the house. Put
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: on something more comfortable, something slightly more relaxing. Okay. I
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: don't know why I had to be ready to go
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: until the very last minute of my day.
- 1:18:45Speaker 3: That sounds healthy.
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: You're watching TV in a pair of like dark blue
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: jeans and a tuxedo.
- 1:18:54Speaker 3: Secret Lives of Mormon, Oh.
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: My god, I mean this podcast could go for another
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: two hours. You bring up that don't start?
- 1:19:01Speaker 3: Don't start. I heard you talking about it, and I did.
- 1:19:03Speaker 3: I dipped in there too.
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: I started watching the show. Did you finish it? No?
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: I mean it's not a well produced No.
- 1:19:09Speaker 3: But now I kind of I feel like I will
- 1:19:12Speaker 3: get back in there.
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: It's coming back for another season. I get very far.
- 1:19:15Speaker 3: But you know, when it starts, there's that lady who
- 1:19:19Speaker 3: I've already forgotten all their names, the one who has
- 1:19:23Speaker 3: got pregnant.
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: Oh at the very beginning, Oh right, Taylor, I think, yes, yes, uh,
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: we'll see how that show goes.
- 1:19:32Speaker 3: How far in did she have her baby?
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: And I can. I can barely remember anything. I remember
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: they go to the roller skating center I went to
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: in middle school. Oh yeah, So that was part of
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: the problem for me is I was like, while watching
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: it was like, none of this seems that exotic or
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: interesting to me because I know this personality, this sort
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: of boring person But then I kind of got caught
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: up in it and we'll probably continue to watch it
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: until it's over for whatever reason. Anally, what's the verdict
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: as far as gift are a curse?
- 1:20:05Speaker 4: Of course it's a gift. Of course it's a gift.
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: And I are we back together? I think this has
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: really brought us all back together.
- 1:20:11Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm so proud of you both.
- 1:20:14Speaker 3: Grank you.
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a wonder. Nobody can argue against a shower
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: at night, and if they do, they're disgusting. Yes, okay,
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: this is the final segment of the podcast. People write
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: into I said no gifts at gmail dot com, begging
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: for answers. We hope me answer a question. Yes, okay,
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: this says hello Bridger Honali's and audacious guest. Okay, that's interesting.
- 1:20:34Speaker 3: Wow, we're not back we were back together and that
- 1:20:40Speaker 3: real backslashsh new way this listeners come between a two
- 1:20:43Speaker 3: of us. I have to I have to take.
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: Pick a team. Our bakery recently received some national recognition.
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: Oh okay, I know who this is. This is well,
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: I will say this is actually a bakery in Maine
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: called The Place Bakery who has now become a listener
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: of the podcast, and they it is a very good bakery.
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: But now let's see what happened.
- 1:21:01Speaker 3: I want to go there, say no more.
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: Recently received some national recognition. They were in the New
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: York Times. Congratulations, and people will not stop talking about it. Okay,
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: now I'm starting to feel like this is they're trying
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: to force me into an advertisement.
- 1:21:14Speaker 3: Well, sure does feel like that.
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: Validation for our hard work feels great, But we're a
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: very small operation of two humans and it's become extremely overwhelming.
- 1:21:22Speaker 3: Shark Tank.
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: National press for a tiny food business is the ultimate
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: gift or a curse. What are some responses I can
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: use to end the bakery talk and move on, Some
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: for ending the conversation entirely, and some which subjects would
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: be great. You'res truly a baker having frequent panic attacks, Chelsea, Well,
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: I don't talking about this is gonna.
- 1:21:44Speaker 3: Help I know you recognition you're getting right now.
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: This is going to destroy the baker's got you.
- 1:21:51Speaker 3: Product placement on every show I work on from here,
- 1:21:55Speaker 3: every comedy sid.
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: I do you're going to bring up the place bakery,
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: the place baker? I uh, what do we do? I
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: mean my immediate what my brain goes to. If you
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: want people to stop talking about your bakery is get
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: shut down by the health department. Hey, then no one's
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: gonna be talking about your opport. I mean maybe for
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: another week where they're like, yeah, place is overrun by rats,
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: too much salt. Yeah, but how else do you get
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: people to stop talking about your bakery? Start making less
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: good things worse customer service, make the hours a erratic
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: where no one can really they show up, still.
- 1:22:34Speaker 3: Show up, don't put your dark blue jeans on in
- 1:22:38Speaker 3: the morning.
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: And if it's in the moment someone won't stop talking
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: about your bakery. Maybe bring up the death in the family.
- 1:22:47Speaker 2: M h.
- 1:22:48Speaker 3: We associate that with the with the delicious bite they're
- 1:22:51Speaker 3: about to eat exactly.
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: Bring in some sort of yeah, the death cake death
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: muffin personal tragedy that will end a conversation pretty quickly. Yeah, uh,
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: comment on their body. That'll get somebody to stop talking
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: to you.
- 1:23:06Speaker 3: Yeah, put the calories as they're eating it, make sure
- 1:23:09Speaker 3: they know how many calories are in it.
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:23:11Speaker 2: There.
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: I feel like Chelsea has not put in the work
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: here to stop these conversations on her own. Rather, she
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: turns to me.
- 1:23:18Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a bit of a humble brag.
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: Oh it's an enormous I mean what she's done here
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: is insidious. Yes, they've gotten free advertising. Yeah, they've bragged.
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: Brag BRAGSCA called the guests. She didn't know who it
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: was going to be so rude. I mean, Chelsea, the
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: way she owes us for her continued success.
- 1:23:38Speaker 3: You'd better send some baked goods. All two of you
- 1:23:41Speaker 3: get in that kitchen.
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: Full day's work. I mean, I mean, it's I mean,
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: it's ultimately unfair and disgusting.
- 1:23:50Speaker 3: Is she saying we're very happy with the way things are.
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: It seems like, I mean that would be a gift,
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: because you got.
- 1:23:57Speaker 3: To learn that you don't want to be.
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: Bigger, right, So that is a gift. Yeah, Like we're
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: good just in our little thing, making our beautiful pastries.
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: This is all we'll ever need, And this is what
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: success is.
- 1:24:10Speaker 3: No thank you? You know? Did I have a big
- 1:24:15Speaker 3: house one time? When I made a lot of money
- 1:24:17Speaker 3: on TV? And then the that had a lady in
- 1:24:21Speaker 3: an urn entile and gold fixtures, and I said, ha
- 1:24:25Speaker 3: ha ha, and then I bought the house and then
- 1:24:28Speaker 3: the market crashed and I was no longer on TV.
- 1:24:30Speaker 3: Did I learn from that that I don't need a house?
- 1:24:34Speaker 3: But am I glad I have the experience? Of course,
- 1:24:37Speaker 3: so they got the experience of people wanting them, and
- 1:24:40Speaker 3: then they.
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: Go, let's make some croissants.
- 1:24:42Speaker 3: I don't want I don't want it. Who needs a
- 1:24:45Speaker 3: six thousand square foot house? Not me? Mine is like
- 1:24:51Speaker 3: a weird humble brag. But then sad so revealing of
- 1:24:57Speaker 3: oh no, you know what, that's how I learned by doing? Okay,
- 1:25:03Speaker 3: sue me. Do you think I when I'm threatened by
- 1:25:07Speaker 3: the fires and I have no uh fire insurance? Do
- 1:25:12Speaker 3: you know how I got to the place of like,
- 1:25:13Speaker 3: I guess it is all gone? By having it gone? Yes,
- 1:25:19Speaker 3: now I'm not afraid of it. So I don't know
- 1:25:23Speaker 3: how that speaks to the bakery.
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: Well, what I think is these people need to have
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: a little more gratitude.
- 1:25:29Speaker 3: Yeah, say we're doing here. Hire some more people.
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: Yes, turn into a massive franchise. Yeah, where the quality
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: goes down. That all got people to stop talking. Sell
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: it to investment bankers. Yeah, say goodbye to the place.
- 1:25:47Speaker 3: Don't be afraid of successes. Fear is not a smooth
- 1:25:51Speaker 3: but is a share of his. That we're nice, that
- 1:25:54Speaker 3: we're bigger than our.
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: Wildest putting the steampunk.
- 1:25:59Speaker 3: Fla and let it fly, and let it fly. And
- 1:26:05Speaker 3: the next thing you know, you'll be starting a You're
- 1:26:09Speaker 3: going to be the next movie. It's about your bakery.
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: People be taking a picture in an AMC with your
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: croissants or whatever. You're not knowing entirely what the movie's about.
- 1:26:18Speaker 3: Blake Lively is going to start.
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: Lawsuits are flying left and right. Yes, things are being
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: exposed and uh.
- 1:26:27Speaker 3: Yeah, the gratitude. And it's very hard. I would think
- 1:26:29Speaker 3: it's very hard to make a name. I know from
- 1:26:32Speaker 3: watching Shark Tank in a food industry.
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: Oh, it's very hard.
- 1:26:37Speaker 3: So what's the prob.
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: Chelsea? Don't write back in, don't write back in. We
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: don't want to ever hear from you again. Well, I
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: think we answered, but I.
- 1:26:49Speaker 3: Do want to try your stuff.
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: Yes, and I'm.
- 1:26:54Speaker 3: Sounds lovely and your bakery. I'd love to know what
- 1:26:57Speaker 3: your specialty item is at the bakery.
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: This stressing summertime crazy. Yeah, we answered the question to
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: write in our books. I've got my socks, my micro
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: cruise micro cruise socks, my keychain, my bag of snacks,
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: and then my unusable tape. Yes, I'm set for life. Yes,
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: what a gift. I know I've had such a wonderful
