- 0:00Speaker 1: Lights.
- 0:00Speaker 2: Hopefully well get a good turnout. Our student body was
- 0:04Speaker 2: outstanding that first game, and from what I understand is
- 0:08Speaker 2: they've opened up the student tailgate lot this week, so
- 0:12Speaker 2: hopefully our students think that that's a worthwhile thing to
- 0:16Speaker 2: do on a Saturday night, get out of stores, get
- 0:18Speaker 2: down to Hartford, have some fun, support their team, and
- 0:23Speaker 2: we would really appreciate that. So we're looking forward to it.
- 0:26Speaker 2: It's going to be a should be a great game.
- 0:29Speaker 2: I think FAU is a really good team. I really
- 0:33Speaker 2: like their quarterback. We've we've played in before, well this
- 0:36Speaker 2: team hasn't, but you know, some of the guys have
- 0:39Speaker 2: play good defense. They don't give up a lot of points.
- 0:43Speaker 2: The quarterback is active. I mean, he's a heck of
- 0:46Speaker 2: a runner, and he's fearless, he's tough, and he's competitive
- 0:50Speaker 2: as heck. So main thing for us is to go
- 0:54Speaker 2: out and execute to the best of our ability, to
- 0:57Speaker 2: go out and get off to a faster start than
- 0:58Speaker 2: we got off to the other night. And then certainly
- 1:02Speaker 2: you know the last quarter and a half learning how
- 1:04Speaker 2: to close on people when you get the lead. So, uh,
- 1:06Speaker 2: we had a good practice this morning. Guys are locked in.
- 1:10Speaker 2: I think they're over the defeat, learn from it, apply
- 1:13Speaker 2: all those lessons and move forward. And so that's what
- 1:16Speaker 2: we're doing. We're all eyes on fau and and Saturday
- 1:19Speaker 2: night and playing the best we can. Maybe change.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Maybe nothing changed but at half time on the second.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Half, But.
- 1:31Speaker 4: What was different for him?
- 1:34Speaker 2: I think it's with any in any endeavor. The more
- 1:37Speaker 2: you practice, the more you play, the more reps you get,
- 1:39Speaker 2: the better you're gonna get, especially if you care and
- 1:41Speaker 2: you try hard, and so just getting more reps, you know,
- 1:45Speaker 2: just getting more experience. I think sometimes we forget this kid.
- 1:48Speaker 2: You know, he hasn't played a lot of football at
- 1:49Speaker 2: this level. Matter of fact, he's now he's played eight quarters,
- 1:52Speaker 2: not even eight quarters because you got hurt at Maryland.
- 1:55Speaker 2: So it's, uh, you know, it's just you see the talent,
- 1:58Speaker 2: you see the ability, you see the potential. It's just
- 2:01Speaker 2: a matter of him continuing to get reps.
- 2:05Speaker 3: Unusualand taking a game at a time.
- 2:09Speaker 2: But I don't, I don't even it doesn't there's no
- 2:17Speaker 2: place in my brain for that other than look, we're
- 2:20Speaker 2: gonna win this. Try to do all we can to
- 2:21Speaker 2: win this game Saturday night. I don't I don't remember
- 2:24Speaker 2: how the schedule thing laid out. I don't know how
- 2:27Speaker 2: remember how it happened. I'm sure at one point I did.
- 2:29Speaker 2: But when you get into a season as a football coach,
- 2:32Speaker 2: if you're thinking about anything other than what is coming
- 2:35Speaker 2: right at you that week, and you're wasting energy and
- 2:38Speaker 2: you're cheating your team and you're cheating the people that
- 2:40Speaker 2: support you. So I just want to stay right here,
- 2:42Speaker 2: and our players want to stay right here. Well, special
- 2:54Speaker 2: teams has played well. Uh our our kickoff covers has
- 2:58Speaker 2: been outstanding. Our punting games been outstanding. Uh our punt
- 3:02Speaker 2: return last week, we had the off sides and we
- 3:07Speaker 2: had the hole, and those were really devastating penalties, or
- 3:10Speaker 2: they had the potential to be. I thought the hold
- 3:12Speaker 2: was the off side extended a drive. So those are
- 3:15Speaker 2: negatives that we have to we have to fix. I
- 3:18Speaker 2: think you watch Chris on kickoffs. He's a tremendous kickoff guy,
- 3:24Speaker 2: and I believe he's a really good field goal kicker. Unfortunately,
- 3:27Speaker 2: we put him in some tough situations in every game
- 3:30Speaker 2: to go out and get his first field goal. So
- 3:32Speaker 2: you know, I'd like to hope that we can get
- 3:33Speaker 2: him in a situation where we can go out there
- 3:34Speaker 2: and build some confidence with maybe you know, a kick
- 3:36Speaker 2: that's a little more direct and not quite as as far.
- 3:39Speaker 2: But he's unphased right now and he's very confident, and
- 3:42Speaker 2: we're all confident in him.
- 3:45Speaker 1: You've asked a questions, But on that did you.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Consider No, it was fourth and ten and we'd converted
- 3:56Speaker 2: a fourth and thirteen in that drive, and the odds
- 3:59Speaker 2: of converting a four from thirteen and a fourth and
- 4:01Speaker 2: fourth and ten are pretty minimal. There was there was
- 4:05Speaker 2: a lot of time left on the clock. We had
- 4:06Speaker 2: three timeouts. Field goal puts us down too, and the
- 4:08Speaker 2: field goal wins it felt like we could get the
- 4:11Speaker 2: ball back, which we didn't. So no, no, the field
- 4:16Speaker 2: goal was there's no question that was the right move.
- 4:21Speaker 3: You see did you taking the steps forward? And is
- 4:23Speaker 3: it just reading better or just like his first game,
- 4:27Speaker 3: it looks like he was rushing a.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Lot of things.
- 4:29Speaker 3: Did you understand it's his first start ever, But do
- 4:32Speaker 3: you see it just more.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Come or yeah it posed? Yeah, it's interesting. In the
- 4:39Speaker 2: game the other night, even though there was uh, you know,
- 4:42Speaker 2: we got off track a little bit, he was really
- 4:45Speaker 2: calm and composed on the sideline, you know, before we
- 4:47Speaker 2: took the lead, and I think that's just his personality.
- 4:50Speaker 1: You know.
- 4:51Speaker 2: It's typical that the more you play, the game kind
- 4:53Speaker 2: of slows down for you, you know, and you can
- 4:56Speaker 2: diagnose things at a different pace and when you just
- 5:00Speaker 2: feel rushed, you know, And there's really no difference in
- 5:02Speaker 2: the speed of the game, but it's in how you
- 5:03Speaker 2: process the information. So I think the more reps he gets,
- 5:06Speaker 2: the faster he'll process information, which means that his decision
- 5:10Speaker 2: making can can be a little bit more calm, and
- 5:12Speaker 2: that's encouraging to see. After you know what six seven
- 5:17Speaker 2: quarters of football.
- 5:19Speaker 3: I understand you answer the Carlos questions, but in six games,
- 5:24Speaker 3: momentum and confidence for the team.
- 5:27Speaker 2: I mean, if we win, yeah, I mean I'm not
- 5:30Speaker 2: trying to be smug either.
- 5:31Speaker 1: If we win yeah. I mean.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Look, if you win, you become more confident, regardless of
- 5:39Speaker 2: where you're winning. If you want me to, you know,
- 5:42Speaker 2: kind of take off my blinders and think about the
- 5:44Speaker 2: six games. If you win and you build momentum and
- 5:48Speaker 2: your crowd size increases because they like to watch you
- 5:52Speaker 2: play football, and you're winning at home, then there's more
- 5:55Speaker 2: energy in the stadium and that helps you, you know,
- 5:58Speaker 2: and that becomes true home field advance. So yeah, if
- 6:01Speaker 2: you want me to look down the road like that,
- 6:03Speaker 2: I'll tell you that. Yeah, I'm gonna keep it right
- 6:05Speaker 2: here cause you have to. But if I can just
- 6:08Speaker 2: for a minute take that attitude and say, well, let's
- 6:11Speaker 2: just look long term. I mean, there's no doubt that
- 6:15Speaker 2: it helps, right, but it only helps if we win.
- 6:18Speaker 2: So we just have to focus on winning this game.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Does that make sense? I'm just yeah, I hope it does.
- 6:25Speaker 2: I'm sure sometimes I don't make a lot of sense.
- 6:27Speaker 2: How do you keep them uh or how do you
- 6:31Speaker 2: teach them how to keep to win out and close out?
- 6:33Speaker 1: Forgin? What us? There? Is?
- 6:35Speaker 3: It more about just keeping them mentally focused on what
- 6:38Speaker 3: they need to do.
- 6:39Speaker 2: When that's a great question, it's a hard question too.
- 6:45Speaker 2: It's a hard thing to do. So with eight twenty one,
- 6:49Speaker 2: we had the lead. We were up twenty one twenty
- 6:52Speaker 2: right at eight sixteen and.
- 6:56Speaker 1: We had a real shot.
- 7:00Speaker 2: We had them down on the twenty five yard line,
- 7:03Speaker 2: they got a couple first downs, we got off the field,
- 7:05Speaker 2: but they kicked it down to the six yard line.
- 7:07Speaker 2: They flipped the field and then we went out. We
- 7:10Speaker 2: went three and out and we weren't. We didn't execute
- 7:12Speaker 2: those three plays the way we should, even though we
- 7:14Speaker 2: were backed up. If we could have just given ourselves
- 7:16Speaker 2: some field position, you know, and gotten out of there,
- 7:21Speaker 2: and then some other things happen. I can't recite every
- 7:23Speaker 2: every series, but we didn't execute well enough on offense
- 7:28Speaker 2: and we didn't get off the field on defense. And
- 7:30Speaker 2: the reason is I felt, I believe this is my belief,
- 7:33Speaker 2: is that we lacked some confidence. You know, they really
- 7:38Speaker 2: turned it up. We didn't necessarily match their intensity. Sometimes
- 7:43Speaker 2: when you lack a little confidence because you haven't been
- 7:45Speaker 2: in those situations a lot, which we haven't, your mind
- 7:50Speaker 2: starts to race a little bit and get you get
- 7:52Speaker 2: ahead of yourself in terms of what you're supposed to do,
- 7:55Speaker 2: or you're thinking about the last play and you're letting
- 7:57Speaker 2: it affect the next play. And so it's all about
- 8:00Speaker 2: just being able to focus and stay in the moment.
- 8:02Speaker 1: And that's hard to do.
- 8:03Speaker 2: It's easy to say, it's hard to do, especially against
- 8:06Speaker 2: a team like that, and so it's something that you
- 8:09Speaker 2: have to emphasize. You know, you have to show him
- 8:11Speaker 2: on film, you have to talk about you have to
- 8:13Speaker 2: be truthful. You have to be honest. You have to
- 8:14Speaker 2: recognize it, accept it, and then you'll get better.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Uh.
- 8:17Speaker 2: And then you have to practice it. You know, you
- 8:19Speaker 2: have to set up situations in a game in practice
- 8:22Speaker 2: that emulate the game as much as you can in
- 8:24Speaker 2: terms of the pressure. But I just believe that there's
- 8:27Speaker 2: eventually there's a breakthrough moment, you know, in those games
- 8:31Speaker 2: and uh, and it's coming for us.
- 8:33Speaker 1: It's coming.
- 8:35Speaker 3: Talk about camp, that's it words progress. I mean, you've
- 8:38Speaker 3: got a guy who is his year running back or back. Oh,
- 8:41Speaker 3: he's getting better if you look like a legit number
- 8:44Speaker 3: one running back.
- 8:46Speaker 2: I agree, yeah he was. He came in and you know,
- 8:49Speaker 2: we all know he was the you know player of
- 8:51Speaker 2: the year. Uh, played offense, play defense. We put on
- 8:55Speaker 2: defense to start out with. He was kind of a
- 8:58Speaker 2: knucklehead is his first year. Know, he was like a
- 9:01Speaker 2: lot of kids, he was immature, trying to adjust to college.
- 9:05Speaker 2: We had some injuries, moved him over to running back,
- 9:08Speaker 2: put him on the scout team. He started doing a
- 9:10Speaker 2: really good job, and then last year we know what
- 9:11Speaker 2: happened with our running back room, put him in and
- 9:14Speaker 2: he just seems like a natural position for him. He's tough,
- 9:17Speaker 2: he's physically smart, he cares, he can catch. I believe
- 9:21Speaker 2: he's a number one running back, you know, I think that,
- 9:24Speaker 2: And I've told him this that a lot of the
- 9:26Speaker 2: identity of our team is tied up into the way
- 9:27Speaker 2: he plays football. He's tough, he's rugged, he's physical, he's violent.
- 9:33Speaker 2: You know, he's consistent. He tries to run people over,
- 9:36Speaker 2: he tries to hurt people. He doesn't go down easy.
- 9:40Speaker 2: You know, he has overcome tons of adversity in his life,
- 9:43Speaker 2: and it's just been amazing to see how far he's
- 9:48Speaker 2: come since he first walked in these doors, you know,
- 9:51Speaker 2: and it's pretty.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Dang awesome, you know, pretty dang awesome. And it's a
- 9:55Speaker 1: good lesson.
- 9:56Speaker 2: You know, the kids, you know, they grow up in
- 9:59Speaker 2: different ways at different times. And because I'll be honest,
- 10:03Speaker 2: that first year, I was like, I don't know, maybe
- 10:06Speaker 2: we made a mistake here. And the boy, he you know,
- 10:09Speaker 2: he's just done an amazing job of solidifying himself in
- 10:13Speaker 2: this program as a.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Heck of a player.
- 10:14Speaker 3: You think it was just.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Well, you know, I think being in a college environment,
- 10:25Speaker 2: you know, where the demands are heavy on you, you know,
- 10:27Speaker 2: on the field, the demands were heavy on him. You know,
- 10:30Speaker 2: we put a lot of pressure on him, and he
- 10:32Speaker 2: could have wilted, you know, or he could have he
- 10:35Speaker 2: could have ran from it, but he embraced it. We
- 10:37Speaker 2: were honest with him about where he needed to be
- 10:39Speaker 2: and where he you know, how far he had to go,
- 10:41Speaker 2: and he just embraced it. You know, there was something
- 10:43Speaker 2: inside of him that just accepted the challenge. And he
- 10:46Speaker 2: keeps accepting it. I mean, he just keeps getting better
- 10:48Speaker 2: and better. Maybe the most impressive thing is not necessarily
- 10:51Speaker 2: his play, but he's gone. He went from kind of
- 10:54Speaker 2: a very immature kid to a real leader, like you know,
- 10:57Speaker 2: he doesn't have to say a lot, but when he
- 11:00Speaker 2: I was like, he's one of those guys now that
- 11:01Speaker 2: that people listen, you know, and he's earned all of that,
- 11:05Speaker 2: and it's it's it's pretty impressive.
- 11:08Speaker 1: Okay, it was.
- 11:12Speaker 4: Over the region you did, Like you said that way.
- 11:22Speaker 2: That's just from your experience, probably just what I'm used to,
- 11:29Speaker 2: you know. I Mean that's kind of the way I've
- 11:30Speaker 2: always done it. The way I've practiced very situational. You know,
- 11:34Speaker 2: I believe football is very situational game. You know, you
- 11:37Speaker 2: have to master situations, and uh, you know, I've been lucky,
- 11:42Speaker 2: as you all know, I've said to be around some
- 11:44Speaker 2: of the greats of all time in this in this
- 11:46Speaker 2: sport and learned a lot from them and just try
- 11:48Speaker 2: to take the things that I felt like they you know,
- 11:51Speaker 2: they did well and that made a lot of sense
- 11:53Speaker 2: and apply them. And uh, we're very demanding, We're very detailed.
- 11:57Speaker 2: We try not to to to gloss over any of
- 12:00Speaker 2: that any of the real fine points of the game
- 12:03Speaker 2: that we believe it's going to help our players get
- 12:05Speaker 2: better and help us win.
- 12:06Speaker 1: That's good to hear from Christian.
- 12:07Speaker 2: You know, it kind of confirms what I believe is
- 12:11Speaker 2: that we're doing it the right way.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Did he start?
- 12:15Speaker 2: Did he he got to play two drives? Good for him,
- 12:19Speaker 2: ESU stud It's interesting because you're asking about Cam, like Cam,
- 12:25Speaker 2: Cam's personality is becoming a little Christian Haines like, you know, like,
- 12:31Speaker 2: don't mess you don't mess you No one messed with
- 12:34Speaker 2: Christian Haines, right, you just you just didn't, right, and Cam,
- 12:38Speaker 2: you know, kind of kind of taking on that same personality.
- 12:41Speaker 2: You know that Christian was never a jerk. You just
- 12:45Speaker 2: didn't mess with him, you know, Cam's never a jerk.
- 12:47Speaker 2: It's just like, I'm not sure I want to I'm
- 12:49Speaker 2: not sure I want to challenge that guy.
- 12:51Speaker 1: You know, what were you wise? I mean ready to
- 12:56Speaker 1: come back.
- 12:57Speaker 2: I won't know until tomorrow when he sees the hand surgeon.
- 13:00Speaker 2: He had surgery a week ago.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Tomorrow.
- 13:04Speaker 2: He's out doing stuff on the field, but not with
- 13:07Speaker 2: the football, not part of the team. He's on the side.
- 13:12Speaker 2: It'll be up to the doctor to see where he is.
- 13:15Speaker 2: Price is still working through some issues and hasn't practiced yet.
- 13:19Speaker 2: He's on the side as well, made some progress and
- 13:22Speaker 2: had a little bit of a setback. You know, we
- 13:26Speaker 2: said this at gazillion times too. When you're dealing with
- 13:28Speaker 2: head and neck and spine, you know, we've got to
- 13:30Speaker 2: be very very cautious, especially at this level, and so
- 13:35Speaker 2: we're doing that with him. Malik got Malik Dixon played
- 13:39Speaker 2: the other night.
- 13:39Speaker 1: You know.
- 13:40Speaker 2: The interesting thing is how many dang guys we got
- 13:42Speaker 2: run around on defense with clubs on their hands. You know,
- 13:45Speaker 2: you got Twoy with the club, You got Meleik with
- 13:47Speaker 2: the club, you know, trying to You got Aaron Key
- 13:50Speaker 2: with the club on their hands. You know, makes it
- 13:52Speaker 2: a little hard to tackle. But we're getting we're getting better.
- 13:56Speaker 2: We didn't have any anything significant on Saturday night. That's
- 14:00Speaker 2: a that's a positive when you come out of a
- 14:02Speaker 2: physical game like that and not have any any significant injuries.
- 14:11Speaker 5: Is that something that challenge to.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Yes, But you can't be satisfied with it, right? Yeah,
- 14:29Speaker 2: I think you have to acknowledge it, but you don't necessarily.
- 14:34Speaker 2: It's not an achievement unless you win the game, right,
- 14:37Speaker 2: And our guys have a great understanding of that. And
- 14:40Speaker 2: that's why, like after the game, when you're talking to
- 14:44Speaker 2: your team after a game like that, there's this enormous
- 14:47Speaker 2: conflict insiety as a coach, and I felt this enormous
- 14:49Speaker 2: conflict inside of our players as well, because we all
- 14:52Speaker 2: recognize that we've made progress, that we failed in our objective,
- 14:56Speaker 2: which was to win the game. And so how do
- 14:58Speaker 2: you reconcile those two, you know, because the last thing
- 15:01Speaker 2: you want to do is give yourself an excuse. And
- 15:04Speaker 2: I will say this, we don't want to win. We
- 15:06Speaker 2: don't want to lose small. We want to win big. Right,
- 15:10Speaker 2: Losing small people go that's a moral victory, it's a loss.
- 15:15Speaker 2: And so making sure that nobody feels okay about losing
- 15:21Speaker 2: small is what we have to make sure we do
- 15:25Speaker 2: while still recognizing, hey, if we take care of the details,
- 15:29Speaker 2: we have a chance to win big. But don't ever
- 15:32Speaker 2: accept losing small. That's not that's not okay. It can't
- 15:36Speaker 2: be okay. We have to make that breakthrough.
- 15:38Speaker 1: We have to.
- 15:39Speaker 2: It's like it's like we crack the glass a little bit,
- 15:42Speaker 2: but we haven't.
- 15:43Speaker 1: We haven't run through it. So does that make sense?
- 15:46Speaker 3: You know?
- 15:51Speaker 1: He's violent, he loves football. He's physical.
- 15:57Speaker 2: He's still learning the scheme, you know, so he's not
- 15:59Speaker 2: necessarily perfect getting all his assignments, but he's working towards it.
- 16:02Speaker 2: He had a sack the other night where he just
- 16:04Speaker 2: ran over the back. He provides great energy to our defense.
- 16:08Speaker 2: He was a huge addition to this team because he
- 16:10Speaker 2: brings personality. He's got a big personality, you know, he's
- 16:14Speaker 2: he's he like, he loves football and you he wears
- 16:17Speaker 2: it on his sleeve. And we need we need some
- 16:19Speaker 2: of that.
- 16:20Speaker 1: You know.
- 16:20Speaker 2: I look out there today at practice and I see,
- 16:22Speaker 2: you know, right down the middle of our defense, I
- 16:24Speaker 2: see dal and JELAWNI and I see Jaden and Towhey,
- 16:28Speaker 2: and I see Deronte, and I go, h, that's what
- 16:32Speaker 2: I like to see right there. You know, these are
- 16:34Speaker 2: five or six guys that love football. They're passionate about it,
- 16:38Speaker 2: they're violent, they love physical contact, they're one thousand percent in.
- 16:44Speaker 2: When you have that foundation, you can build around that.
- 16:47Speaker 1: And we've got to.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Keep adding guys to that, to that mix, you know,
- 16:51Speaker 2: and have their personalities and their approach and their passion
- 16:55Speaker 2: rub off on others, and then we'll keep getting better.
- 17:00Speaker 4: That go through.
- 17:01Speaker 3: I think he's obviously has a lot of talent out
- 17:04Speaker 3: in high school. He's played for three years in college football, though,
- 17:08Speaker 3: just practices. What is there a big jump to games
- 17:12Speaker 3: or is it dealing with yet another coach and another
- 17:15Speaker 3: of coordinator.
- 17:21Speaker 2: I think it's it's honestly, it's just getting game reps.
- 17:24Speaker 2: You know, you can set up a practice for success
- 17:27Speaker 2: or even you know, challenges, but games there's just so
- 17:30Speaker 2: many unknowns in the speed of the game and the competition,
- 17:33Speaker 2: the things that you don't anticipate happening. Is just learning
- 17:36Speaker 2: through every experience that he gets, you know, in a game,
- 17:39Speaker 2: and then and then you know, practicing every day with
- 17:42Speaker 2: a purpose, you know, and I think he does that.
- 17:46Speaker 2: You know, like there's no rep. He can't afford to
- 17:49Speaker 2: take one single repetition in practice for granted. You know,
- 17:53Speaker 2: like we have to make it as game like as
- 17:55Speaker 2: possible for him, and he has to approach it like
- 17:58Speaker 2: it's a game.
- 17:58Speaker 1: In order for him to improve. But the real improvement is.
- 18:00Speaker 2: Going to come in the game because the talent is there,
- 18:03Speaker 2: you do see it, but we have to eliminate the
- 18:06Speaker 2: you know, the throws that are down in the dirt
- 18:10Speaker 2: or the throws that are behind the guy when they're
- 18:11Speaker 2: wide open. And that's just going to come through experience,
- 18:15Speaker 2: you know, and building confidence and building you know, chemistry
- 18:20Speaker 2: with those receivers. You know, you can see that he
- 18:22Speaker 2: and Skyler have pretty good chemistry, but you know with
- 18:25Speaker 2: the other ones as well.
- 18:26Speaker 1: So you know, I just come back to just.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Reps, reps, reps, reps, reps, reps, reps, you know, getting reps,
- 18:34Speaker 2: getting competitive reps in a game. You know, it stunted
- 18:41Speaker 2: his progress when he got hurt at Maryland, couldn't finish
- 18:45Speaker 2: out that game and then get it, didn't get a
- 18:46Speaker 2: chance to get the work. Versus Merrimac, you know, we
- 18:49Speaker 2: had some success on offense that could have been a
- 18:52Speaker 2: real confidence builder. And now I don't think his confidence
- 18:54Speaker 2: is lacking at all. I just think there's just some
- 18:57Speaker 2: uncertainty at times because he hasn't had enough repetition.
- 19:02Speaker 1: What's up? Oh yeah, right, yeah.
- 19:09Speaker 2: Well, you look at college football nowadays and those teams
- 19:12Speaker 2: that have a quarterback that can you can make plays
- 19:15Speaker 2: with his legs. There seem to be the teams that are,
- 19:18Speaker 2: you know, successful on offense. You know, that ability to
- 19:22Speaker 2: take a broken play and turn it into a first down,
- 19:25Speaker 2: or the ability to design a run for a guy.
- 19:27Speaker 2: You know, those create nightmares for a defensive coach. You know,
- 19:33Speaker 2: in the old days, you didn't have to plan for
- 19:34Speaker 2: a quarterback running. Yeah, quarterbacks could scramble and there weren't
- 19:38Speaker 2: a lot of design quarterback runs or the zone read
- 19:41Speaker 2: game or the triple option game. So having a guy
- 19:45Speaker 2: that has the ability to go or pull it and
- 19:49Speaker 2: go or run a design run play is huge. I
- 19:52Speaker 2: mean the pressure it puts on a defensive coordinator is
- 19:55Speaker 2: you It really can't be overstated. You know, I've been
- 19:58Speaker 2: on that other side with the running quarterback, just going,
- 20:01Speaker 2: oh my god, you know they got we don't have
- 20:03Speaker 2: enough hats. They got more hats than we do more.
- 20:06Speaker 2: When I say that, I'm more blockers happy early on,
- 20:11Speaker 2: but it seems to get better.
- 20:14Speaker 1: It got better, it got better.
- 20:16Speaker 2: You know, I don't think I'll ever be satisfied till
- 20:19Speaker 2: there's never a mistackling a game, which will never happen.
- 20:22Speaker 1: You know.
- 20:22Speaker 2: That's just the fact that I we played with a
- 20:25Speaker 2: lot of violence on defense and a lot of physicality.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Our planjury was better.
- 20:30Speaker 2: We had more guys flying to the ball, and we
- 20:32Speaker 2: tackled better and and that's the expectation, and we have
- 20:34Speaker 2: to continue to practice that way and then we have
- 20:37Speaker 2: to put it on film on Saturdays. But you know,
- 20:41Speaker 2: at the end of the day, right, that's what it's
- 20:43Speaker 2: all about. On defenses, keeping out of the end zone,
- 20:45Speaker 2: and keeping out of the end zone means tackling them,
- 20:47Speaker 2: get them on, get them on the grass. So we
- 20:49Speaker 2: got better at it against a good team. Now we
- 20:51Speaker 2: have to see another step up this week. Okay, thanks everyone,
- 20:55Speaker 2: have a good day.
- 20:56Speaker 1: I appreciate you coming out with
