- 0:01Speaker 1: Half corner time. Let's tittle Yankee Stadium Tuesday, Wednesday and
- 0:04Speaker 1: maybe Thursday. Red Sox Yankees first round. That's good.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Love it. This is what it's all about. People are like, oh,
- 0:13Speaker 2: I hate they expanded playoffs. When you get matchups like this,
- 0:16Speaker 2: bring it all people, because you know what, it's great
- 0:19Speaker 2: for baseball and the whole world was gonna be tuned
- 0:21Speaker 2: to everyone's so oh, Yankees and Red Sox are on
- 0:23Speaker 2: TV too much. You know why because people tune in
- 0:25Speaker 2: to watch.
- 0:26Speaker 1: It's gonna be fun and there's a lot of star
- 0:28Speaker 1: power here. Garrett Crochet against Max Freed Game one.
- 0:32Speaker 3: That's good.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Yankees playing sizzling hot right now, Kratz Red Sox get
- 0:36Speaker 1: in obviously the narrative, you know, they trade devers. I
- 0:40Speaker 1: was critical of it, as were many others. They don't
- 0:42Speaker 1: have Rome and Anthony, but they're gonna step in with
- 0:45Speaker 1: I think, well, I guess it's close, but no, Crochet
- 0:48Speaker 1: is a better. Cruche is better than Freed, right if
- 0:51Speaker 1: you have to rent power rank those two?
- 0:53Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, okay, so.
- 0:55Speaker 1: They've got the best starter going here. BeO is gonna
- 0:58Speaker 1: go in game two for them, and Boone made some announcements.
- 1:02Speaker 1: I'm just scrolling back up here. Cam Schlitteritter would start
- 1:05Speaker 1: game three if there is once you got Freed and
- 1:07Speaker 1: rodin for games one and two, Austin Wells behind the
- 1:09Speaker 1: plate for game one that needs Ben Rice probably on
- 1:12Speaker 1: the bench, Goaldie at first, and then you can bring
- 1:14Speaker 1: in Rice at some point, and then Amed Rosario might
- 1:18Speaker 1: get a little light second instead of Jazz for sure,
- 1:22Speaker 1: because it's because of his numbers against Crochet.
- 1:24Speaker 2: He was like six for eight against Crochet finding a
- 1:29Speaker 2: way into a playoff game, and guess was the hottest
- 1:32Speaker 2: right now? Playoff Gean, Carlos Stanton, Mike Stanton, whatever you
- 1:37Speaker 2: want to call him. This dude is scorching right now.
- 1:41Speaker 2: I get it. He was hitting fingers against the Orioles,
- 1:43Speaker 2: but he is he shows up in the playoffs. I
- 1:47Speaker 2: don't think there's a bigger hitter in either lineup of
- 1:50Speaker 2: this series, and I get it. Alex Bregman has been
- 1:54Speaker 2: one of the best postseason players in this this pool
- 2:00Speaker 2: of generation of players because he's always been in it
- 2:02Speaker 2: and his numbers. He has a ridiculous amount of numbers
- 2:05Speaker 2: in the postseason. But g can single handedly take over
- 2:09Speaker 2: a series where you look at a Crochet Freed matchup,
- 2:13Speaker 2: three runs might win the game, and g has been
- 2:16Speaker 2: that guy in the playoffs. But more importantly, this last
- 2:20Speaker 2: week of the.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Season, where do you think the edges are for me?
- 2:24Speaker 1: I think starting pitching is close. Red Sox bullpen advantage, Yankees' lineup.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Advantage, yeah, yeah, And they're playing a Yankee stadium, which
- 2:35Speaker 2: will help. No squirre will come up with something that
- 2:38Speaker 2: will help them try to win. Yeah. I think the
- 2:42Speaker 2: fact they're playing in Yankee Stadium is gonna be huge.
- 2:44Speaker 2: The Red Sox have to win Game one that they
- 2:46Speaker 2: just Crochet owns Judge. He's got like one hit offf
- 2:49Speaker 2: of him in his career. I think as much as
- 2:53Speaker 2: we think that the Tigers have to win Game one
- 2:56Speaker 2: against the Guardians, I firmly believe the Red Sox have
- 2:59Speaker 2: to win. When Crochet bitches, did you say dinger? Krats,
- 3:02Speaker 2: that was the one hit he's got?
- 3:03Speaker 1: Oh one dinger?
- 3:04Speaker 2: Yeah? I think he hit two dingers against him. We
- 3:08Speaker 2: had the one in eight innings.
- 3:10Speaker 1: But anyway, that's just so Judge had another ridiculous season. Krats,
- 3:14Speaker 1: your former teammate is up for an MVP. He's gonna
- 3:18Speaker 1: get first or second, ridiculous historic season again, but last
- 3:23Speaker 1: year in the playoffs he had some really rough moments.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Do you think that we get more of the regular
- 3:30Speaker 1: season judge or the October judge here?
- 3:34Speaker 2: I think regular season judge. I think if you go
- 3:38Speaker 2: back to some of his numbers that he's amassed in
- 3:41Speaker 2: the postseason, they're not as bad as they are recently.
- 3:45Speaker 2: So does that mean you don't care? To me? I
- 3:48Speaker 2: don't think he he's unaware of how bad he's done
- 3:54Speaker 2: recently in the playoffs. But I think you have a
- 3:58Speaker 2: shorter memory. You have a longer memory in like, dude,
- 4:01Speaker 2: I should win the MVP. My ops plus is over
- 4:04Speaker 2: two ten if I know what that was. As a player,
- 4:08Speaker 2: he is not. He's feeling the same pressure as anybody
- 4:12Speaker 2: else on this roster. No, not true, he feels more pressure.
- 4:24Speaker 2: He might not say it, but he absolutely has to.
- 4:26Speaker 2: He's the guy. He's the guy that in New York
- 4:29Speaker 2: stars need to shine, and he hasn't shined in the
- 4:32Speaker 2: big moments. He hasn't. I'm sorry. I love Aaron Judge.
- 4:35Speaker 2: I think he's unbelievable. He's an unbelievable player, but in
- 4:39Speaker 2: the big, bright moments, he has not shined the way
- 4:40Speaker 2: that they need him to Game five of the World
- 4:43Speaker 2: Series last year, he dropped the fla ball that led
- 4:45Speaker 2: to all hell breaking this first air of the season
- 4:49Speaker 2: at the worst time possible. What do they remember in
- 4:52Speaker 2: New York? Ask anybody that played there. They remember how
- 4:54Speaker 2: you did in the postseason. They don't give a crap
- 4:56Speaker 2: about how you do in the radio season. I would
- 4:59Speaker 2: agreeing what.
- 5:00Speaker 1: To do with him or how they pitch him with
- 5:04Speaker 1: better pitching in the postseason, do you think that's a
- 5:05Speaker 1: factor at all?
- 5:06Speaker 2: Or now he hits he hits good pitching too. He's
- 5:10Speaker 2: sitting two, he's hit got two of He's hitting two
- 5:12Speaker 2: o five in the postseason in his career. What about
- 5:16Speaker 2: the career in his career, do you have that on
- 5:18Speaker 2: base and he's got sixteen homers, You have got two
- 5:25Speaker 2: hundred and twenty at bats his first three seasons in
- 5:31Speaker 2: the postseason he hit way better than that. Seventy eighteen
- 5:35Speaker 2: nineteen twenty. He was not healthy. He came back after
- 5:40Speaker 2: being hurt twenty one, was quick. His obp is three eighteen,
- 5:48Speaker 2: his ops is seven sixty eight. He had He's had
- 5:50Speaker 2: one great postseason. It was twenty eighteen in nineteen at
- 5:54Speaker 2: bats four twenty one, fourteen hundred ops. Other than that,
- 5:59Speaker 2: it's eight sixteen, seven forty three, six sixty two, five
- 6:03Speaker 2: hundred four to ninety and last year was seven fifty two.
- 6:06Speaker 2: So his ops is seven sixty eight with a two
- 6:08Speaker 2: O five, which is solid.
- 6:10Speaker 1: But not for him, not for him, not for him
- 6:12Speaker 1: when he's yes guy, for his career exactly.
- 6:16Speaker 2: No, I'm sorry, like that's that's I mean, I love
- 6:19Speaker 2: Aaron Judge's death, but this is what people look at. Yeah,
- 6:22Speaker 2: yescially again, Dodgers Dan Playton Kershall. They're not do they not?
- 6:31Speaker 2: Do they not throw him in the postseason? They're not
- 6:34Speaker 2: getting he's not in the wild card. I get it,
- 6:37Speaker 2: he's not one of the three starters.
- 6:39Speaker 1: What's your point?
- 6:40Speaker 2: Now, what's the point here? They're both elite players, their
- 6:45Speaker 2: numbers in the postseason may not may not match up.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Kershall's got a four and a half ERA in one
- 6:52Speaker 2: hundred and ninety four innings. Does that mean does that
- 6:55Speaker 2: mean you don't think he's gonna perform? To me, I
- 6:58Speaker 2: think Judge will perform in the playoffs? Has he not? Yes?
- 7:02Speaker 2: To me? Je said he didn't think. We didn't think
- 7:04Speaker 2: he's gonna be good to perform. No One said no one.
- 7:07Speaker 2: I just said he needs to perform. Nobody said, we
- 7:10Speaker 2: don't think he's not. I'm just given the numbers, he
- 7:13Speaker 2: hasn't performed up to the level. Kirshy has two rings,
- 7:16Speaker 2: Judge has zero. That's the way Yankee fans judge their
- 7:19Speaker 2: their their players. Why do they love Derek Jeter? How
- 7:22Speaker 2: many rings does Derek Jeter have? What? Five? Oh? Sorry, five?
- 7:29Speaker 2: You're right? Nine two five? But also, that's why they
- 7:33Speaker 2: love Derek Jeter. That's why they love the Core four.
- 7:35Speaker 2: That's why they love were A Pisada. That's why the
- 7:37Speaker 2: guys that win the ring. That's why I love Nick
- 7:39Speaker 2: Swisher because he won the ring in two thousand and nine.
- 7:41Speaker 2: That's why Yankee fans judge their stars on how many
- 7:44Speaker 2: rings did you win? Yogi Barrow won? What? Ten? Nine
- 7:47Speaker 2: or ten rings? That's what the Yankees judge are people on,
- 7:50Speaker 2: it doesn't matter regular season's cool. How many rings do
- 7:53Speaker 2: you have? And right now, Judge unfortunately has zero, even
- 7:56Speaker 2: though he's been the best player in the game since
- 7:57Speaker 2: he's got to the big leagues. Asked me if I
- 8:00Speaker 2: thought he was gonna be regular season judge or postseason judge.
- 8:04Speaker 2: In my opinion is he's going to be. He's gonna
- 8:06Speaker 2: be regular season judge. I can't, I can't not. I
- 8:11Speaker 2: I will put I will put my stake in the
- 8:14Speaker 2: ground on that. I think he will be that guy.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Do you I hope he is. I don't know. I'm
- 8:22Speaker 2: just gonna I hope he is because I love Aaron
- 8:24Speaker 2: Judge and I think he's so fun to watch.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Right now, if we're going off track round, I'm saying,
- 8:31Speaker 1: Stanton is the guy who lives up to those moments.
- 8:34Speaker 2: He is the guy ellingers had big moments in the postseason.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Volpi's had huge moments in the post. He looks like
- 8:41Speaker 2: you can't throw it right now. The throw he made
- 8:44Speaker 2: yesterday it was like three hops that his shoulders, his
- 8:48Speaker 2: shoulders crushed. I mean, you can't play him. You can't
- 8:53Speaker 2: have that. You have to in coffy ero. But I'm
- 8:56Speaker 2: just saying I don't know, Listen, I'm just saying Judge
- 8:59Speaker 2: needs to Judge needs to have that moment and it
- 9:01Speaker 2: needs to happen against the Red Sox.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Early big homer last year against Class A. I get it,
- 9:05Speaker 1: but he had tons of opportunities. Last year, John Carlos
- 9:08Speaker 1: Stanton was married the team in October.
- 9:11Speaker 2: He was insane.
- 9:13Speaker 1: He was so fun to watch.
- 9:15Speaker 2: How do you know play? I know, I know Austin
- 9:16Speaker 2: Walls is catching, but you can't find him play away.
- 9:18Speaker 2: To get Ben Rice in the lineup somewhere they will later, right,
- 9:21Speaker 2: I mean I him in there. I needed him in
- 9:24Speaker 2: there as much as I can get him in there.
- 9:25Speaker 1: He's gonna go in late against righties, yeah, I know,
- 9:30Speaker 1: and then he'll play Game two.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Did he play third for McMahon, I'd be goldtimate played
- 9:35Speaker 2: third for mcmon. I mean, you can't think about think
- 9:39Speaker 2: about what they could have here. Crochet's gone seven and
- 9:41Speaker 2: eight innings against the Red Sox. If he goes seven,
- 9:46Speaker 2: you can't bring bent Ben Rice in because eventually they're
- 9:50Speaker 2: gonna bring Eroaldis in and then he's got to go left,
- 9:53Speaker 2: all left against Eroaldis Chapman, the best reliever in baseball
- 9:56Speaker 2: this year, they gotta get Krushe as a That's it again.
- 10:02Speaker 2: As much as we say Scooball needs to win HM
- 10:04Speaker 2: Garrick Coche needs to win Game one though, those are
- 10:07Speaker 2: the two big one Hunter Green. If the Reds are
- 10:09Speaker 2: gonna have any chance Hunter Green's gotta win Game one.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Yeah, we're talking about top ten starters in the sport.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Those guys are top ten starters.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Yes, we've talked about the like sexy part of this game.
- 10:20Speaker 2: One thing we haven't brought up that both teams absolutely
- 10:24Speaker 2: suck at fielding. Neither of these teams can field. Trevor's
- 10:31Speaker 2: story has five airs in the last eight games, and
- 10:35Speaker 2: it was like five of six games. Talking about maybe
- 10:38Speaker 2: he's a little tired. Maybe they have their best second
- 10:42Speaker 2: placement playing gold glove center field, and oh, don't forget
- 10:48Speaker 2: their worst fielding the Red Sox away from Boston where
- 10:53Speaker 2: you can kind of mitigate some things because you can
- 10:55Speaker 2: play shallower or the wall comes into play, all that stuff. Like,
- 11:01Speaker 2: are we gonna see like some balls kicked around here
- 11:03Speaker 2: in this series that costs one of the teams to
- 11:05Speaker 2: go home?
- 11:09Speaker 3: Yes, more likely, Yes, really even.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Hit on that, I think, which is gonna be an
- 11:13Speaker 2: awesome series too. The Cubs and the we will we'll
- 11:15Speaker 2: get to it. We'll get to it. Can That's a
- 11:18Speaker 2: very another interesting one, especially with Kate Horton going down.
- 11:21Speaker 1: We will we will last thing real quick on this
- 11:24Speaker 1: Red Sox of went nine and four the season against
- 11:27Speaker 1: the Yankees five and two at Yankee Stadium. When you
- 11:30Speaker 1: look at previews, people always bring up season series.
- 11:32Speaker 2: Do you care not? No?

- 12:43Speaker 1: what the heck happened to the Mets and their second
- 12:47Speaker 1: highest payroll in baseball this year?
- 12:50Speaker 3: I mean, your guys, guess this goes mind. You saw
- 12:52Speaker 3: this happen. It wasn't really a collapse, was more just
- 12:54Speaker 3: watching them bleed out for three months. The pitching wasn't
- 12:58Speaker 3: good enough. There wasn't enough consistent and see in the top,
- 13:00Speaker 3: middle or back of the rotation. Situational hitting was bad
- 13:03Speaker 3: for a while, it got pretty good, and this weekend
- 13:05Speaker 3: I would say it was poor again. The bullpen completely
- 13:08Speaker 3: fell apart one that we thought it should have been
- 13:10Speaker 3: one of the better bullpens in baseball after the trade deadline,
- 13:13Speaker 3: was more like one of the worst bullpens in baseball.
- 13:16Speaker 3: Every single thing went wrong. David Stearns, Carls Mendoza, all
- 13:19Speaker 3: of the players, all forty seven pitchers that made an
- 13:21Speaker 3: appearance this season, every single person involved with this deserves
- 13:25Speaker 3: at least a portion of this blame. It's so hard
- 13:27Speaker 3: to even fine tune and point to some specific thing
- 13:30Speaker 3: because it was such an overarching disaster.
- 13:34Speaker 2: You're the day after the season's over. There was a
- 13:37Speaker 2: chance that they could have gotten in yesterday with just
- 13:40Speaker 2: one victory. Yeah, Is it hard to imagine this team
- 13:44Speaker 2: actually in the playoffs? Or was it, oh man, remember
- 13:48Speaker 2: what we did last year that was so amazing. We
- 13:50Speaker 2: tripped into the playoffs on the last day against the
- 13:53Speaker 2: Braves too, We're going to go on an epic run.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Or was there definitely the disbelief that this was just
- 14:00Speaker 2: not a good team.
- 14:01Speaker 3: I think that that belief of last year kind of
- 14:03Speaker 3: worked against them because you listen to the way these
- 14:05Speaker 3: guys spoke after all of their games, and those are
- 14:07Speaker 3: the players. Even Brandon Nemo's availability after the season. It
- 14:11Speaker 3: was kind of just like waiting for a switch to flip.
- 14:14Speaker 3: You can't really wait for a switch to flip. You
- 14:15Speaker 3: have to flip a switch. And I think that there
- 14:18Speaker 3: was a bit of arresting on Laurels of a team
- 14:20Speaker 3: that we know how much talents in this room, we
- 14:22Speaker 3: know how good we are and can be. We know
- 14:24Speaker 3: we just did this last year. What the Mets did
- 14:26Speaker 3: last year was I don't even know. It's like a
- 14:28Speaker 3: dream like sequence, over and over and over again, like
- 14:31Speaker 3: herculean performances from star players out of sometimes the clear
- 14:34Speaker 3: blue sky and you waiting for that. That's not sustainable
- 14:38Speaker 3: process to win baseball games. I remember listening to you
- 14:40Speaker 3: guys a lot last year being critical of the gimmicky Mets,
- 14:43Speaker 3: being like, how can you sustain this kind of motivation
- 14:47Speaker 3: mentality when it's all built on gimmicks. At the time,
- 14:49Speaker 3: I was a little bit critical of that, didn't really
- 14:52Speaker 3: understand what you meant. But now watching this season and
- 14:54Speaker 3: seeing their lack of ability to find that internal motivation,
- 14:58Speaker 3: I very much understand when you meant. Really did again
- 15:01Speaker 3: work against them this season?
- 15:03Speaker 2: All right, Well, where do we start with? What went wrong?
- 15:06Speaker 2: I mean the pitching obviously, but the hitting didn't hit.
- 15:09Speaker 2: They got shut out yesterday. They got shut out. Okay,
- 15:12Speaker 2: and I know, you know some Perez is good and
- 15:14Speaker 2: the Marlins are good, and it's a big ballpark. But
- 15:16Speaker 2: they got shut out. Maybe they needed Grimace? Where was Grimace?
- 15:19Speaker 2: Where was omg? Where was the pump? Where were all
- 15:23Speaker 2: these things they had? They had none of them? This year,
- 15:25Speaker 2: they just were like going through the motions. So I mean,
- 15:28Speaker 2: I don't want to they weren't going through the motion
- 15:30Speaker 2: because obviously they.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Care, they're working hard. Yeah, but what what did they need?
- 15:35Speaker 2: Did they need someone to come in from the outside
- 15:37Speaker 2: and provide that spark, because I feel like Carlos Mendoza
- 15:40Speaker 2: does a great job trying to lead them and put
- 15:43Speaker 2: them He stays very even Keel. They tried Bucks show Walter,
- 15:46Speaker 2: that didn't work, they went to Mendy. Where do they
- 15:48Speaker 2: go next? Especially if Alonzo and Edwin Diaz are out
- 15:51Speaker 2: the door.
- 15:52Speaker 3: I mean maybe even Keel isn't what this team needed.
- 15:55Speaker 3: Maybe they needed some kind of raw rale, like some
- 15:57Speaker 3: kind of activity, some kind of energy. And also I
- 15:59Speaker 3: think it's a difference of going from a team that
- 16:01Speaker 3: last year had no expectations on them after the way
- 16:04Speaker 3: they began the season, so this year entering with all
- 16:06Speaker 3: the expectations on yourself. It's the try, the true difference
- 16:09Speaker 3: in sports forever, going from being a hunter to the
- 16:12Speaker 3: hunt it. And I think that when that target got
- 16:14Speaker 3: put on the Mets backs, I don't think they knew
- 16:16Speaker 3: how to really aptly respond to it. And even these
- 16:19Speaker 3: must win games over the weekend. Friday night especially amazing
- 16:22Speaker 3: looking back at this Marlin series. The Marlins only scored
- 16:25Speaker 3: runs in two individual innings and won the series to
- 16:28Speaker 3: the one. And if you can move one more game
- 16:29Speaker 3: as the Mets, you will the playoffs. We're not having
- 16:31Speaker 3: these conversations now. We might have these conversations in three
- 16:34Speaker 3: days because the roster and the team were still flawed.
- 16:36Speaker 3: You probably would have gotten just crushed by the Dodgers.
- 16:39Speaker 3: But who knows, three game series, anything can happened in baseball.
- 16:41Speaker 3: But the mental mistakes of Ryan Riso not covering a
- 16:44Speaker 3: base on Friday, Carls Fondoza bringing Greg Russolo to face
- 16:48Speaker 3: the flu of right handed bathers, then Sunday being a
- 16:50Speaker 3: little bit maybe too jumpy with the bullpen taking a
- 16:53Speaker 3: guy like Brooks Raley, who's been your second most trusted
- 16:55Speaker 3: reliever out for the entire second half after ten pitches
- 16:59Speaker 3: when one right these coming up with one guy in
- 17:01Speaker 3: first base like it was just there wasn't a lot
- 17:04Speaker 3: of consistency in the decision making by Carlos Mendoza, and
- 17:07Speaker 3: there was even less consistency with all the pitchers he
- 17:09Speaker 3: had at his disposal.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Or wait, wait, wait, back in June fifteenth, they lost
- 17:14Speaker 2: the game. Wait, no, we can't go over every single
- 17:18Speaker 2: individual game, even though we're breaking down this weekend. So
- 17:22Speaker 2: I want to go to Juan Soto. When I say
- 17:27Speaker 2: Juan Soto, I need your initial honest reaction, I.
- 17:33Speaker 3: Mean say, you're gonna blame any guy in this team
- 17:35Speaker 3: for what happens. It's definitely not him. For as cold
- 17:37Speaker 3: as he was to start the season, he lived up
- 17:40Speaker 3: to the billing nine to fifty ops, forty home runs,
- 17:43Speaker 3: like the runs of scoring position. Stuff was bad early,
- 17:45Speaker 3: it got very good late Sunday. A couple of chances
- 17:48Speaker 3: that didn't exactly go his way, but that's baseball. You're
- 17:51Speaker 3: not getting hit every time you come up, no matter
- 17:53Speaker 3: what the what the dollar science says next to your name.
- 17:55Speaker 3: He's It definitely is a strange clubhouse thing that was
- 17:58Speaker 3: dealt with this year, owing a guy that came into it.
- 18:01Speaker 3: I can't remark on that. I wasn't in that room,
- 18:03Speaker 3: but it didn't seem like that was something that was
- 18:06Speaker 3: strongly working against him, And if it was, that's a
- 18:09Speaker 3: poor reflection on everybody in there. Because he's so good
- 18:12Speaker 3: that we should be able to get over any clubhouse things,
- 18:14Speaker 3: not saying there was one, but it can't be a
- 18:17Speaker 3: bad thing that you had one, so tho to your team,
- 18:19Speaker 3: and if it was, then I think everyone else needs
- 18:21Speaker 3: to look internally a little bit closer.
- 18:24Speaker 1: I'm gonna say what I think should happen this offseason,
- 18:27Speaker 1: but what would you do this offseason to switch things
- 18:31Speaker 1: up and try and remedy a situation where this team
- 18:33Speaker 1: spends a ton of money on their player personnel? Right,
- 18:38Speaker 1: the Mets are actually the example that's going to be
- 18:40Speaker 1: used when we have the annoying salary cap conversations in
- 18:44Speaker 1: the offseason, because like half the teams in the top
- 18:46Speaker 1: ten didn't even make it, and the Mets are the
- 18:48Speaker 1: prime example, and this has happened two times in the
- 18:51Speaker 1: last few years, where the Mets top three in payroll.
- 18:54Speaker 1: You're like, no way, this team doesn't at least crack
- 18:57Speaker 1: the playoffs, and they don't. My thought process is, how
- 19:00Speaker 1: do you build a pitching staff like this to crumble
- 19:04Speaker 1: in the last few months.
- 19:05Speaker 2: This was a slow burn.
- 19:06Speaker 1: This wasn't like, oh no, we got blitz at the
- 19:07Speaker 1: buzzer like this was an incredible team for a couple
- 19:10Speaker 1: months and then you know, you bring on guys that
- 19:13Speaker 1: obviously either got hurt or couldn't last and didn't build
- 19:15Speaker 1: the depth around it. That you're relying on three pitchers
- 19:18Speaker 1: who did not expect to be up this season at all.
- 19:21Speaker 1: So how do you fix this from a philosophy standpoint?
- 19:24Speaker 1: Because I will say I don't think David Stearns believes
- 19:27Speaker 1: in the big money Max Freed type signing, But look
- 19:30Speaker 1: what Max Freed is about to do this week.
- 19:32Speaker 3: Yeah, but Freeze also the cherry pick. He's the one
- 19:35Speaker 3: guy that did work out with the big contract. And
- 19:37Speaker 3: it is funny like talking about getting blissed at the
- 19:38Speaker 3: end of the season, Like it's not like the Mets
- 19:40Speaker 3: got chased down. Like in twenty twenty two, when the
- 19:42Speaker 3: Braves played six fifty baseball for three straight months, the
- 19:45Speaker 3: Reds were just forty and forty over the last eighty games.
- 19:48Speaker 3: You got caught by a five hundred team. That's how
- 19:50Speaker 3: bad you were. You were one of the worst teams
- 19:52Speaker 3: in baseball for three straight months. And I feel like
- 19:55Speaker 3: we talked a lot about the differences on rosters between
- 19:57Speaker 3: like the Stars and then the scrubs, But then you
- 20:00Speaker 3: always have to kind of look at the middle class
- 20:02Speaker 3: of the team's roster in terms of payroll, Like you
- 20:03Speaker 3: look at the Mets Stars, so though Lindor Alonzo, you
- 20:06Speaker 3: can't really say much about the performans of those guys
- 20:08Speaker 3: this season. And then you look towards the bottom of
- 20:10Speaker 3: the roster and you have to be impressed by what
- 20:12Speaker 3: Brett Baidy did this season or Francisco Alvas did this season.
- 20:15Speaker 3: But then the problem is that this middle class of
- 20:17Speaker 3: the roster, the guys making between like twenty and ten
- 20:19Speaker 3: million dollars, the guys you're going out, you're giving money to,
- 20:22Speaker 3: and they need to perform for you. Starling Marte twenty
- 20:24Speaker 3: million dollars to be a part time DH who has
- 20:26Speaker 3: lost all his athleticism. We can't play defense. That's terrible.
- 20:29Speaker 3: Brett and themout twenty million dollars. Good season. Counting the
- 20:32Speaker 3: numbers wise, defense took a step back. Arm is a
- 20:36Speaker 3: complete liability in the outfield and his high leverage stats
- 20:38Speaker 3: were abysmally bad. Joum and I another twenty million dollar guy.
- 20:41Speaker 3: He was the offseason acquisition to steady the rotation. He
- 20:44Speaker 3: did the exact opposite that. He took a lot of
- 20:46Speaker 3: accountability after the game yesterday being like, if I'm even
- 20:49Speaker 3: half as good as I know I can be, we
- 20:51Speaker 3: make the playoffs. To not even discussion he was a
- 20:52Speaker 3: total failure of this season. Edward Ds twenty million dollars,
- 20:55Speaker 3: had a great season, No, nothing wrong with in DS.
- 20:57Speaker 3: Would like to bring him back, Your guy's favorite pitcher
- 20:59Speaker 3: in the league. Frankie seventeen million dollars. Don't have to
- 21:01Speaker 3: rehash that. Jeff McNeil sixteen million dollars called they sang
- 21:04Speaker 3: a sixteen million dollars.
- 21:05Speaker 1: A J.
- 21:05Speaker 3: Mintry signed him for eleven he got hurt in April,
- 21:08Speaker 3: and Clay Holmes for thirteen, who was really useful, and
- 21:10Speaker 3: Jesse Winker for another eight. Like that, entire meat and
- 21:12Speaker 3: potatoes of the roster was almost complete failure. And the
- 21:16Speaker 3: funny thing is, like, as we've gone through so many
- 21:18Speaker 3: iterations of this Mets franchise under Steve Cohen, I just
- 21:21Speaker 3: named guys who were brought in and signed by three,
- 21:24Speaker 3: possibly four different executives along the way. So there's still
- 21:27Speaker 3: a lot of just garbage and trash in the middle
- 21:29Speaker 3: of this roster that needs to be sifted through and
- 21:31Speaker 3: siphoned off. And at the same time, none of those
- 21:34Speaker 3: guys almost performed up to their standards. If one of
- 21:36Speaker 3: those guys performed to their standards, you probably find one
- 21:39Speaker 3: more win and we probably get in the playoffs. But
- 21:40Speaker 3: it's just a colossal failure from that chunk of the roster,
- 21:43Speaker 3: through and through.
- 21:45Speaker 2: I mean, I don't even know where to start. I mean,
- 21:47Speaker 2: David Serage, this was supposed to be his specialty though,
- 21:49Speaker 2: cleaning it up. I know it's only his first year,
- 21:52Speaker 2: but you know, he did. He did bring in Montos,
- 21:55Speaker 2: he did. He brought him Frankie Montos and I hate
- 21:57Speaker 2: to go always go back to him, but he has
- 21:59Speaker 2: a track record of being hurt and guess what, and
- 22:02Speaker 2: when he hasn't been hurt, he hadn't been that great
- 22:03Speaker 2: except for like for a little bit. So that is
- 22:06Speaker 2: just that's what it is. It is what it is
- 22:08Speaker 2: when it comes to that. And some of the other guys,
- 22:10Speaker 2: I mean, they're they're signed, yes, I know that, but hey,
- 22:13Speaker 2: you're the Mets. You're supposed to be able to cover
- 22:15Speaker 2: this kind of stuff with their roster. And when you
- 22:17Speaker 2: bring in Awan Soto and you bring in Francisco Indoor
- 22:20Speaker 2: and you have a Pee Alonso and you bring all
- 22:22Speaker 2: these guys in code, I singa's in triple A.
- 22:25Speaker 3: He didn't pitch.
- 22:25Speaker 2: I mean he could have. So there's a million things.
- 22:28Speaker 2: But what I want to dig into is your announcers.
- 22:30Speaker 2: You guys love Gary and Ron and Keith, and I
- 22:33Speaker 2: get it, YadA YadA. They are the Homers and that
- 22:35Speaker 2: they will criticize. But yesterday, come on, the Marlins took
- 22:39Speaker 2: a picture at the end of the game and they're like,
- 22:41Speaker 2: this is their world series? What are they doing? Well,
- 22:44Speaker 2: guess what, it was the Mets World Series too, and
- 22:47Speaker 2: they got shut out for Maybe the met should have
- 22:49Speaker 2: said if we win, we'll take a team photo and
- 22:51Speaker 2: they wouldn't have got shut out. Like I don't know.
- 22:54Speaker 2: I mean, listen, I do these games. I get it.
- 22:56Speaker 2: I get that you're supposed to be a Homer, but
- 22:58Speaker 2: criticizing another team for celebrating because you're mad you lost
- 23:02Speaker 2: seems like kind of a weak way to go about this.
- 23:05Speaker 3: Garrett Cohen through and through is a Mets fan, Like
- 23:08Speaker 3: that's how he's fine. Yeah, that's kind of I think
- 23:10Speaker 3: he identifies himself, and you're right about that. I thought
- 23:13Speaker 3: that his comments after the game where a tad bit whiny,
- 23:15Speaker 3: But I think it was windy. Just like when Mark
- 23:17Speaker 3: and I came on our podcast this morning, I think
- 23:19Speaker 3: we were a little bit whiny. I think if you
- 23:20Speaker 3: had to watch this team go through what they went
- 23:22Speaker 3: through over the last few months, there were some raw
- 23:24Speaker 3: emotions that you felt as someone that loved and supported
- 23:27Speaker 3: and were there for this team day in and day
- 23:29Speaker 3: out this season. I think also at the same time,
- 23:31Speaker 3: during that last broadcast, those last couple of games, Gary
- 23:35Speaker 3: Keith and Rom Weroll pretty critical of the players on
- 23:37Speaker 3: the field. Carls Mendoza especially, Ron took some shots. I
- 23:41Speaker 3: thought maybe tongue in cheek a bit, just the team
- 23:43Speaker 3: building in a way. At the same time too, looking
- 23:45Speaker 3: at the Marlins, they were team that was alive for
- 23:47Speaker 3: the playoffs on Thursday when they lost the game to
- 23:49Speaker 3: the Phillies, they had a chance to sweep the Mets
- 23:51Speaker 3: this weekend if the Reds would have been swept by
- 23:53Speaker 3: the Brewers and actually stuck into the playoffs. Even with
- 23:56Speaker 3: that possibility, they pushed back their a Sandy al Contraday
- 24:01Speaker 3: for eight days rest so he could pitch the Friday
- 24:03Speaker 3: night home game against the Mets rather than when he
- 24:05Speaker 3: pitched the Thursday before. Push him up on regular rest
- 24:07Speaker 3: to pitch the Tuesday and then keep them available for
- 24:09Speaker 3: Sunday and what your absolute goals and opportunity could have
- 24:13Speaker 3: been a must win game, and the Marlins seems to
- 24:15Speaker 3: have forewent that possibility because there's a good chances with
- 24:18Speaker 3: Sandy's last start, and I think they wanted a Friday
- 24:21Speaker 3: night home game for their kind of premier player over
- 24:24Speaker 3: the last half decade, and I think that's totally fair.
- 24:27Speaker 3: But it is interesting when you look at this team
- 24:29Speaker 3: like the Marlins, who were like, we're going to give
- 24:31Speaker 3: and again this baseball, that's what we're supposed to do,
- 24:33Speaker 3: give everything we have, just to ruin these guys season.
- 24:35Speaker 3: I tip my cap to them. I wish the Mets
- 24:37Speaker 3: would have given everything they could to save their own season,
- 24:39Speaker 3: but it is funny how that happened, especially with the
- 24:41Speaker 3: way they organized their pitching matchups for a series that
- 24:44Speaker 3: to them meant nothing besides pride, and again I'm happy
- 24:46Speaker 3: they had that pride. The Marlins were a better team
- 24:48Speaker 3: the Mets over the last two months by a lot.
- 24:49Speaker 3: Connor Norby spoke after the game on Friday, said we
- 24:51Speaker 3: believe were better than them, and he was right. The
- 24:54Speaker 3: last seven games the Mets and the Marlins played. The
- 24:56Speaker 3: Marlins won five of them. Like that, you want to
- 24:58Speaker 3: look at why you miss the playoffs for the Mets.
- 24:59Speaker 3: That's a big for it.
- 25:01Speaker 2: Listen, I wanted to make this caller. I have no
- 25:03Speaker 2: problem with the announcer being a homer. I'm all four
- 25:05Speaker 2: of the local announcer being a homer because they should
- 25:07Speaker 2: be a homer. Right. You don't need to take a
- 25:08Speaker 2: shot at the other team. He should have said, Man,
- 25:10Speaker 2: look at the Marlins away they're celebrating. That should be
- 25:12Speaker 2: the Mets right now, or something like you don't need
- 25:14Speaker 2: to take that was more. My thing is like, you
- 25:15Speaker 2: don't need to take a shot at the other team,
- 25:17Speaker 2: Like call out your own team, which they do a
- 25:19Speaker 2: good job of, but don't take a shot at the
- 25:20Speaker 2: other team, right, Don't take a shot at guys on
- 25:22Speaker 2: other teams. Take a shot at your own team if
- 25:24Speaker 2: you want to, you know. But that's it. And listen,
- 25:27Speaker 2: I love Gary Ron and Keith. I think they're one
- 25:28Speaker 2: of the most entertaining home team do or trios or
- 25:32Speaker 2: teams in baseball. But I just thought it was kind
- 25:34Speaker 2: of weird that they took a shot at the other
- 25:36Speaker 2: team for no reason.
- 25:37Speaker 3: Oh yeah, for sure, just wanted to like paint the
- 25:39Speaker 3: picture that they were taking plenty of shot to us,
- 25:41Speaker 3: and then they went to the shots to them, they
- 25:42Speaker 3: were they were fair across the board first and then
- 25:44Speaker 3: they had to get, you know, especially Gary, just get
- 25:46Speaker 3: that frustration out.
- 25:46Speaker 2: I think Steve Cohen when he bought the team said
- 25:51Speaker 2: how many years he was gonna break? He actually said
- 25:54Speaker 2: three to five if we go to the exact But
- 25:58Speaker 2: as a Mets fan, you're like, okay, I'll take I'll
- 26:00Speaker 2: take the I'll take the longer route. How are Mets
- 26:03Speaker 2: fans sitting here today going, is it another five year
- 26:08Speaker 2: plan that we're ahead of?
- 26:10Speaker 3: It's hard to tell at this point. I mean, we
- 26:12Speaker 3: know how weird baseball is. We know the looming labor
- 26:15Speaker 3: negotiations that are going to happen after next year. And
- 26:17Speaker 3: again you look at the bottom and middle class to
- 26:20Speaker 3: this roster and you're like, how how much better are
- 26:22Speaker 3: these guys actually going to be next season? Again, like
- 26:24Speaker 3: full faith and confidence in Francisco and Door and one,
- 26:27Speaker 3: so though, really banking and hoping that Pelonso is a
- 26:30Speaker 3: guy that is back next season. Will hold myself to that.
- 26:32Speaker 3: And then you're pretty confident going into next season with
- 26:34Speaker 3: both Francisco al for As Brett bay The as starting players.
- 26:37Speaker 3: Besides that, like this entire pitching staff is under contract
- 26:40Speaker 3: and every single guy's a question mark. You're really happy
- 26:43Speaker 3: you saw from Nolan McLain lots of confidence in the future. Well,
- 26:46Speaker 3: it wasn't great in the president from Brandon Brot and
- 26:48Speaker 3: jonah Toong built one of the best farm systems in baseball.
- 26:51Speaker 3: Not one relief pitcher under contract heading into next year.
- 26:54Speaker 3: It's going to take a lot of work to think
- 26:55Speaker 3: that this team could be a World Series team next year.
- 26:58Speaker 3: And you're probably going to need some again, some really
- 27:01Speaker 3: good signings in the middle class and kind of have
- 27:03Speaker 3: to pull some more rabbits out of your hats for
- 27:05Speaker 3: David Searns who did it really well two years ago
- 27:08Speaker 3: and did not do it this year. So it's a lot.
- 27:10Speaker 3: I think a lot's going to change. I think there's
- 27:12Speaker 3: gonna be a lot of turnover on this roster. Honestly,
- 27:14Speaker 3: I think some guys have played their last games as
- 27:15Speaker 3: Mets who are under contract. A guy like Jeff McNeil
- 27:18Speaker 3: just kind of probably needing to change the culture a
- 27:20Speaker 3: little bit I'm curious about how your organization feels over
- 27:24Speaker 3: Ronnie Marissio and Mark Ciento's, over the way they're playing
- 27:27Speaker 3: time when and the specific warriors Carls Mendoza had for
- 27:29Speaker 3: each of them over these last few weeks. It's a
- 27:32Speaker 3: it's a really strange looking roster right now and one
- 27:35Speaker 3: that looking back, you're like, I can see how this team,
- 27:37Speaker 3: I guess missed the playoffs but still still hurt.
- 27:39Speaker 2: To the moment.
- 27:41Speaker 1: At the time, I thought it was a little bit annoying,
- 27:45Speaker 1: but I also get it. Pete playing his potential last
- 27:48Speaker 1: home game with the Mets, and I think Pete's really
- 27:51Speaker 1: nice and Quirky was like, really, we're talking about this
- 27:54Speaker 1: right now, and it's the job of a reporter. You're
- 27:56Speaker 1: getting in an ovation. So I'm okay with the question
- 28:00Speaker 1: now though, is he opts he's opting out? Do you
- 28:02Speaker 1: think we do another song and dance all off season?
- 28:06Speaker 1: Because it's to me, it's not as much about the
- 28:09Speaker 1: Mets and their interest in Pete. I think it's the
- 28:12Speaker 1: rest of baseball and their lack of interest in a
- 28:15Speaker 1: first basement with that profile, I think the Mets understand
- 28:18Speaker 1: the importance of what he means there, and there were
- 28:21Speaker 1: other teams that I thought would get involved.
- 28:24Speaker 2: I will say, for.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Example, the Washington Nationals, the Pittsburgh Pirates, those were teams
- 28:28Speaker 1: that clearly could use a Pete Alonzo. They're just not
- 28:30Speaker 1: going to spend like that, so it does start to
- 28:32Speaker 1: shrink his market. What do you think about Pete for
- 28:35Speaker 1: twenty twenty six?
- 28:37Speaker 3: I really want Pete back on this team. I can't
- 28:40Speaker 3: really imagine a Mets world at this point without him.
- 28:42Speaker 3: But it's also it's clear as day, and it has
- 28:45Speaker 3: been again last year this year, that he isn't a
- 28:47Speaker 3: player without flaws, Like I think his defense this year,
- 28:50Speaker 3: for one, that was bad. Heading in took another dramatic
- 28:53Speaker 3: step back. His ability to throw the ball a strange
- 28:55Speaker 3: and while he got off to that just rollicking hot start,
- 28:58Speaker 3: he did have like a mid season and swoon and
- 29:00Speaker 3: fade like a lot of these other guys did. And
- 29:03Speaker 3: I don't know how much different his market is this
- 29:05Speaker 3: year compared to last year. Like you said, first base
- 29:07Speaker 3: his position that's idly been devalued in baseball. Bye the
- 29:10Speaker 3: fact that Peter Alonzo you can pencil him in for
- 29:12Speaker 3: thirty five home ors, a hundred and twenty RBIs. I
- 29:14Speaker 3: don't think that's exactly what's being bought and sold on
- 29:16Speaker 3: the free agent market, So I think you're gonna have
- 29:19Speaker 3: to probably grind out another few months of waiting for
- 29:21Speaker 3: this pe Alonzo thing. I'm assuming mid January again, similar
- 29:24Speaker 3: to last season and the silence of the night, and
- 29:27Speaker 3: I hope it's the Messa there at the end of
- 29:29Speaker 3: the day. I wonder if a team out there is
- 29:30Speaker 3: actually willing to give him a fourth or even a
- 29:32Speaker 3: fifth year after last year and then coming back into
- 29:35Speaker 3: this year, I kind of doubt it. And just like
- 29:37Speaker 3: you said, like a lot of those teams who need
- 29:39Speaker 3: first basement kind of had their first base. You guys
- 29:41Speaker 3: were talking about the Giants before we got on their team.
- 29:43Speaker 3: We expect to spend money this year. They can always
- 29:45Speaker 3: use a power hitter. I don't think they signed a
- 29:47Speaker 3: ped Alonso the block of Bryce Aldrich, like the Yankees
- 29:49Speaker 3: are going to be a team that could need the
- 29:50Speaker 3: first basement. I don't know if they signed p Alonso
- 29:52Speaker 3: when they have all that money on their books still
- 29:54Speaker 3: and the emergence of Ben Rice, Like, I just don't
- 29:56Speaker 3: know which of the teams that you think will spend money.
- 29:59Speaker 3: Actually like spending this money on this guy. Maybe it's
- 30:02Speaker 3: the Red Sox. I don't know. We'll see how everything
- 30:04Speaker 3: works out with them in Tristan. Costas know it's a
- 30:06Speaker 3: strange situation there, but it feels like the market is
- 30:09Speaker 3: oddly similar to last year. If the market similar to
- 30:11Speaker 3: last year, I think the Mets and David Serns just
- 30:13Speaker 3: played the same waiting game and hope they get their
- 30:15Speaker 3: guy at their number again.
- 30:18Speaker 2: James, you have to make a choice two good starting
- 30:21Speaker 2: pitchers or Pete Alonzo Big. I'm not saying that Cohen
- 30:25Speaker 2: has to make that choice.
- 30:29Speaker 3: It all depends who those starting pitchers are. The free
- 30:31Speaker 3: agent class for the season is a little bit lacking
- 30:34Speaker 3: at the moment, so I'm really curious about again, how
- 30:37Speaker 3: aggressive a team like the Mets are. I hope they
- 30:40Speaker 3: dive deeper into the trade market. I know guys like
- 30:42Speaker 3: Sandi at Contra, like we said before, and Joe Ryan
- 30:44Speaker 3: are likely going to be available. Like that's right, I
- 30:47Speaker 3: prefer to go We know how bad some of these
- 30:48Speaker 3: pitching contracts have been, But if you give me that choice,
- 30:52Speaker 3: I think I still would rather take Pete because I
- 30:54Speaker 3: still believe in a lot of these young pitchers on
- 30:56Speaker 3: this roster, Like I think next year you could walk
- 30:58Speaker 3: in and say, Nolan mcclaims no day star there brands
- 31:01Speaker 3: broke and start the year as a five to six
- 31:03Speaker 3: and Jonah Tongkson triple A refining his game ready to go,
- 31:05Speaker 3: and then the guys behind them like Jack Wender Joashan Santucci,
- 31:09Speaker 3: like the Mets have some of the best pitching prospects
- 31:11Speaker 3: in baseball. We'll Watson a big breakout this year, and
- 31:13Speaker 3: I think that, similar to this year, will be kind
- 31:15Speaker 3: of banking on them to come in like last year
- 31:18Speaker 3: Christian Scott's coming back off injury. But depends if they're ready,
- 31:20Speaker 3: depends on the summer months ago. I still just think
- 31:22Speaker 3: that we got to get Pee Alonzo then try to
- 31:25Speaker 3: figure out the pitching a different way, whether it be
- 31:27Speaker 3: trades or the young guys.
- 31:28Speaker 2: Again, all right, what would make Mets fans happy? Because
- 31:34Speaker 2: nothing makes them happy obviously except for what but you
- 31:37Speaker 2: mentioned trades. You're mentioning free agency. What would make Met
- 31:41Speaker 2: fans happy trading McNeil and some of these other guys
- 31:44Speaker 2: that are possibly have these contracts and using young guys
- 31:48Speaker 2: Manaiyah or whoever. The Senga, whoever they could possibly get
- 31:51Speaker 2: value for and using the young guys, or spending again
- 31:55Speaker 2: in the free agent market and trying to go for
- 31:57Speaker 2: the big fish. What would make Met fans more happy?
- 31:59Speaker 2: Because they spent a lot, they didn't make it. Now
- 32:02Speaker 2: they're like, oh, we have David Stearns, the master of
- 32:04Speaker 2: finding scrap heaps. You just said, right, guys off the
- 32:06Speaker 2: scrap even filling in spots. When they tried that with
- 32:09Speaker 2: some of their guys, those didn't work. So what makes
- 32:11Speaker 2: Met fans happy?
- 32:13Speaker 3: I mean, just wearing something right here? I think would
- 32:15Speaker 3: make Mets fans happy. The only thing the Mets fans
- 32:17Speaker 3: want is to win the World Series. That's literally it.
- 32:19Speaker 3: However we get there, whatever it takes. I do think
- 32:22Speaker 3: a lot of Mets fans are ready for an all
- 32:25Speaker 3: in moment. I think similar to a Garrett Crochet trade
- 32:28Speaker 3: that the Red Sox made last year. If I had
- 32:30Speaker 3: to take the temperature of Mets fans what they want
- 32:32Speaker 3: the most, I'm assuming it's that we're at the same time.
- 32:35Speaker 3: I just don't think that guy's available. Garrett Crochets don't
- 32:38Speaker 3: come around every year, and the Red Sox have way
- 32:39Speaker 3: better prospects even last year, and I think the Mets
- 32:42Speaker 3: might even have now definitely better in the Mets had
- 32:43Speaker 3: available to them to trade last season. I think if
- 32:46Speaker 3: Mets fans don't go into next season with a front
- 32:48Speaker 3: line starting pitcher, however they perceive that guy to be,
- 32:52Speaker 3: I think there will be some disappointment. We're at the
- 32:54Speaker 3: same time, I do think that again, the greatest failure
- 32:56Speaker 3: of so far David Stearns and this Mets roster was
- 32:59Speaker 3: kinds of shopping too much in the middle class. Like
- 33:02Speaker 3: David Stearns, I think is still trying to learn how
- 33:04Speaker 3: to be a big market executive. And two moves he
- 33:07Speaker 3: made last year that were big market moves where Sean
- 33:10Speaker 3: and I and Frankie Mantas for forty million dollars combined.
- 33:13Speaker 3: You don't make those moves. You're the general manager of
- 33:15Speaker 3: the Milwaukee Brewers. You make those moves when you're like,
- 33:17Speaker 3: I can spend these forty dollars, go over the luxury tags,
- 33:19Speaker 3: don't care. Let me try and get some innings that
- 33:21Speaker 3: I think are reliable that might have some upside. If
- 33:23Speaker 3: you don't make those moves, you probably keep shopping for
- 33:26Speaker 3: Jose Kintan and Matthew Boyd a few weeks later, guys,
- 33:28Speaker 3: who are you know with that ten million dollar range?
- 33:30Speaker 3: I think it's it's still him trying to learn what
- 33:33Speaker 3: it is. But at the same time, like you definitely
- 33:35Speaker 3: talk to guys like Dylan See's, Freddie Peralta, fran Bravaldez,
- 33:39Speaker 3: this Offseas's not saying I particularly want those guys, especially
- 33:42Speaker 3: my instant reaction of what I'm thinking about any of them.
- 33:44Speaker 3: But you have to find a way to get at
- 33:47Speaker 3: least some kind of stabilizing picture in herewever hold holda.
- 33:51Speaker 2: You can't criticize them an I a sign mean, he
- 33:52Speaker 2: was their best picture the whole second half last month
- 33:55Speaker 2: last year, and in the playoffs he was like a
- 33:57Speaker 2: bona fide a see, so you can't see that that
- 34:00Speaker 2: was good. But here's the thing about what you're saying
- 34:02Speaker 2: about David Stearns though, right, this is what big market
- 34:05Speaker 2: teams are supposed to do. They're supposed to be able
- 34:07Speaker 2: to get those guys right and fill the spots, which
- 34:11Speaker 2: but that didn't happen. The guys are already there. Didn't happen.
- 34:14Speaker 2: So that's why I wonder what makes met fan taby
- 34:16Speaker 2: So you'd rather go all young guys, and as far
- 34:18Speaker 2: as they're all in moment, they signed a guy for
- 34:21Speaker 2: seven hundred and sixty five million, that's their all in moment.
- 34:25Speaker 2: That's the way we're all in guys. I mean, you
- 34:28Speaker 2: can't get any more all in than signing one Soto
- 34:30Speaker 2: for what you signed them for.
- 34:32Speaker 3: There still medium all in because again we went to
- 34:34Speaker 3: the season with very questionable pitching and again, like the
- 34:37Speaker 3: Shaumanai contract last year, he had an amazing half season,
- 34:40Speaker 3: but a lot of the Shamani success last year, and
- 34:43Speaker 3: we've all talked about this, the facts they changed our
- 34:45Speaker 3: mangled dramatically. So you had two months of a guy
- 34:47Speaker 3: that changed the way he pitched in season. And then
- 34:50Speaker 3: he's someone that has DEBLT injuries in the past. He
- 34:51Speaker 3: someone that has deble consistency issues in the past, and
- 34:53Speaker 3: you just saw both of those things come truition this
- 34:55Speaker 3: whole season. Again, shaumana I is the guy's a team
- 34:58Speaker 3: leaders guy love having this clubhouse. He was some who
- 35:00Speaker 3: was very accountable yesterday talking about his own struggles this year,
- 35:03Speaker 3: as he felt with the primary recent this team didn't
- 35:05Speaker 3: get to where they were. It takes a lot for
- 35:07Speaker 3: a player to say that you could kind of feel
- 35:09Speaker 3: minigh this year playing with the weight of that contract
- 35:12Speaker 3: he signed. He understood how important that money was and
- 35:14Speaker 3: how important he was to this team. It was probably
- 35:17Speaker 3: a situation where between him and Kodai Sanga, they might
- 35:20Speaker 3: have brushed those guys back from their injuries, knowing how
- 35:22Speaker 3: important it was to get them back in July when
- 35:25Speaker 3: that pitching was really starting to fall apart. Through June,
- 35:27Speaker 3: after they had a lot of injuries to the depth
- 35:28Speaker 3: guys and mess of the weird thing too with each
- 35:31Speaker 3: of them where they brought them back just before the
- 35:33Speaker 3: All Star break rather than just after like a lot
- 35:35Speaker 3: of teams will do with injured players. Korda, Sanga, Maz
- 35:37Speaker 3: return that Friday, Shaman and I and Mays return that Sunday.
- 35:40Speaker 3: Each of those guys pitched again in the following weekends.
- 35:42Speaker 3: They can kind of jam and give those guys as
- 35:44Speaker 3: many appearances as possible. I think it's the right thing
- 35:46Speaker 3: if they're healthy, but it seems like they might not
- 35:49Speaker 3: have been healthy, and maybe that rushing back is a
- 35:51Speaker 3: thing that kind of took all of them off their
- 35:53Speaker 3: roles for the second half. But it's still it's just
- 35:55Speaker 3: a weird pitching staff and a weird roster, and I
- 35:56Speaker 3: think that without again a super bona FI days on
- 36:00Speaker 3: the market, unless you make that Joe, Ryan or Sandy trade,
- 36:03Speaker 3: you're probably going to be shopping closer to the bargain
- 36:05Speaker 3: bin than the top line of these creations.
- 36:07Speaker 1: Once again, great analysis, James, really good stuff. Crazy season
- 36:12Speaker 1: to cover this seam and get to this point. We'll
- 36:14Speaker 1: be talking again soon. Appreciate you man, good catching up.
- 36:18Speaker 3: Thanks, guys, appreciate it.
