- 0:07Speaker 1: Hey, welcome in latest edition of Birdland Territory with Steve
- 0:10Speaker 1: tim Brad and today, oriol outfielder Dylan Biavers joins us
- 0:15Speaker 1: on the show. We're excited to talk to Dylan, who's
- 0:18Speaker 1: in his second year on the Orioles. He got his
- 0:21Speaker 1: major league call up in August of twenty twenty five,
- 0:25Speaker 1: a draft pick by the Birds in twenty twenty two,
- 0:27Speaker 1: number thirty three overall pick, worked his way up through
- 0:30Speaker 1: the levels on the farm and then made the big
- 0:32Speaker 1: debut last year and been on the ball club this year.
- 0:35Speaker 1: And Dylan, thanks for joining us today. Man, great to
- 0:38Speaker 1: have you on Birdland Territory.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Yeah, thank you for having me. Excited to be here.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Tell me about the season for the team. First, what
- 0:46Speaker 1: a wild ride. We have detailed it on this show.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Throughout the crazy ups and downs, the chase to get
- 0:53Speaker 1: to five hundred, many times it felt like maybe media
- 0:57Speaker 1: and fans were ready to throw in the towel, like
- 1:00Speaker 1: the team has never obviously done that. Greatest example maybe
- 1:04Speaker 1: in Detroit, an incredible win. I mean, what's this ride
- 1:08Speaker 1: been like for you guys in that clubhouse?
- 1:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's it's definitely been a lot of
- 1:17Speaker 2: ups and downs. I feel like, you know, a lot
- 1:21Speaker 2: of teams in the big leagues right now are probably
- 1:25Speaker 2: you know, going through a similar thing. But yeah, I mean,
- 1:29Speaker 2: you know, we I think we have a really resilient group,
- 1:33Speaker 2: and you know, obviously if if if it doesn't go
- 1:36Speaker 2: our way, we're not really gonna waiver where We're gonna
- 1:41Speaker 2: stick to who we are and you know, try and
- 1:45Speaker 2: compete every every pitch, you know, So I think that
- 1:48Speaker 2: that's kind of kept us in it, even even when
- 1:51Speaker 2: we're not playing our best baseball.
- 1:55Speaker 3: Hey, Jelan, you're thinking back to your debut last year,
- 1:59Speaker 3: Well was that experience like for you then? And then
- 2:02Speaker 3: can you kind of talk about the difference of getting
- 2:04Speaker 3: your first call up as opposed to making your first
- 2:06Speaker 3: opening day and kind of having like the full season
- 2:08Speaker 3: experience in the big leagues.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Yeah, Yeah, it's definitely it's been a lot different. I
- 2:17Speaker 2: felt like, you know, last year, whenever whenever I got
- 2:21Speaker 2: called up, you can kind of argue we were maybe
- 2:27Speaker 2: maybe not really in contention at that point. So this year,
- 2:33Speaker 2: you know, making the making the roster out of camp
- 2:37Speaker 2: and trying to be a part of a team that
- 2:40Speaker 2: makes a playoff pushes It's it's been a lot different.
- 2:44Speaker 2: I feel like, uh, definitely more challenging. You know, they're
- 2:51Speaker 2: I think I feel like it's it's it's just there's
- 2:58Speaker 2: been a little more competitive aspect to it. I felt
- 3:02Speaker 2: like last year, you know, they were just giving me
- 3:04Speaker 2: opportunity and whether or not I was playing well, and
- 3:09Speaker 2: I feel like, you know, now it's like, if you're
- 3:12Speaker 2: not helping the team win, it's you're not going to
- 3:15Speaker 2: get in there. So, you know, I feel like this
- 3:18Speaker 2: year it's been a little more challenging. And then, you know,
- 3:22Speaker 2: at the same time, I feel like maybe the league
- 3:24Speaker 2: is kind of adjusted to me as a hitter, and
- 3:28Speaker 2: you know, they're they're going to attack your weak points,
- 3:31Speaker 2: especially when they have a bigger sample on you.
- 3:34Speaker 4: You know, and take us back to that game yesterday. Man,
- 3:37Speaker 4: you know, it couldn't be a great feeling when you're
- 3:40Speaker 4: trailing seven and nothing with Trek Scuball on the mound,
- 3:43Speaker 4: but then just an avalanche offensively for you guys. It
- 3:46Speaker 4: was a remarkable comeback, biggest comeback in Orioles history since
- 3:51Speaker 4: two thousand and nine. But that's been a calling card
- 3:54Speaker 4: of your guys this season. Twenty five come from behind wins,
- 3:58Speaker 4: that's eleventh most in base Well, so what was it
- 4:00Speaker 4: like yesterday all of the emotions and also just talk
- 4:04Speaker 4: about your guys never say die attitude this season.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel like it's been pretty consistent. I can't
- 4:13Speaker 2: pinpoint when you know, we we made our first come
- 4:18Speaker 2: back win or like come from behind win. But I
- 4:20Speaker 2: feel like early in the year, you know, we we
- 4:26Speaker 2: erased a deficit at some point, and uh, you know,
- 4:30Speaker 2: I feel like after that it was like to us,
- 4:35Speaker 2: you know, there's no lead that that and another team
- 4:38Speaker 2: can have on us where where we feel like we're
- 4:40Speaker 2: out of it, and uh, you know, no matter what
- 4:47Speaker 2: what inning it is, and and and what the score is,
- 4:50Speaker 2: I feel like we're we're gonna, you know, try and
- 4:53Speaker 2: win the ball game.
- 4:54Speaker 1: And uh.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I just feel like we've been very resilent and
- 5:00Speaker 2: even even when things aren't looking so good. You know,
- 5:04Speaker 2: when SCOO Ball came out of the game, there was
- 5:07Speaker 2: a little bit of traffic. I think we we'd had
- 5:10Speaker 2: scored one run at the very end there and and
- 5:16Speaker 2: two outs, I'm pretty sure, and and you know, Albi
- 5:21Speaker 2: and Donnie were telling me, you know, be be ready
- 5:23Speaker 2: to hit, you know it. I feel like that. That's
- 5:28Speaker 2: kind of where it starts. You know, our our coaching
- 5:30Speaker 2: staff is you know, they're they were looking like five
- 5:34Speaker 2: batters ahead in a two out inning. You know, like, hey,
- 5:37Speaker 2: be ready. You know, the next four guys are gonna
- 5:42Speaker 2: get on base and do their job. And I think
- 5:44Speaker 2: when when the coaching staff has that confidence in every
- 5:48Speaker 2: guy on the on the team, it gives the players
- 5:52Speaker 2: confidence as well. So, you know, I was ready to
- 5:56Speaker 2: hit long before we had put up any runs. And
- 6:00Speaker 2: so we're you know, other guys off the bench as well.
- 6:05Speaker 1: We talk with those outfitter Dylan Beavers today on Birdland
- 6:08Speaker 1: Territory Glad to visit with Dylan Orioles. Draft pick from
- 6:12Speaker 1: twenty twenty two s Dylan on Saturday Night, about a
- 6:16Speaker 1: week ago against Atlanta, bottom of the ninth, you get
- 6:18Speaker 1: a walk off hit. There's probably almost no better feeling
- 6:21Speaker 1: in baseball than to be mobbed by your teammates, the crowds,
- 6:25Speaker 1: big crowds going crazy. After that game, I thought, Craig
- 6:28Speaker 1: Albert has a very praiseworthy comment of you. He said
- 6:32Speaker 1: something to the effect of he's got a slow heartbeat.
- 6:36Speaker 1: And when I hear managers say that about a player,
- 6:38Speaker 1: it seems to say they're calm and relaxed when all
- 6:41Speaker 1: heck is breaking loose. They keep their composure and it
- 6:44Speaker 1: helps them have success on the field. Did you hear
- 6:48Speaker 1: about that comment? Do you agree? And if that's you
- 6:51Speaker 1: have that, what helps you have that?
- 6:55Speaker 2: Yeah? I feel like, you know, I've had I mean,
- 7:01Speaker 2: it hasn't been I've had a very long major league
- 7:04Speaker 2: career to this point, but I've I've had some success
- 7:10Speaker 2: from what I can remember, and uh, you know, late
- 7:13Speaker 2: in the game, and I feel like for me, I
- 7:16Speaker 2: just try and treat those at bats the same as
- 7:20Speaker 2: any any at that I feel like it those late
- 7:25Speaker 2: inning scenarios. You know, it can be challenging for people
- 7:31Speaker 2: if if they put too much stock into the importance
- 7:36Speaker 2: of the at bat. You know, at the end of
- 7:37Speaker 2: the day, I think you just need to take it
- 7:41Speaker 2: like any other at bat. Obviously, everyone wants to come through,
- 7:45Speaker 2: but if if you want it too bad, that's when
- 7:49Speaker 2: you you start getting yourself out or or making bad decisions.
- 7:55Speaker 2: So typically, no matter when I come up, I try
- 7:58Speaker 2: and treat it like, you know, the same situation as
- 8:02Speaker 2: as any at bat.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Mhm, he don't.
- 8:06Speaker 3: I always love when I was playing. I love talking
- 8:09Speaker 3: to hitters about their approach and just kind of different
- 8:11Speaker 3: things they're doing as a player. Forget about whatever what
- 8:15Speaker 3: you know stats might say or what this might say
- 8:18Speaker 3: for you yourself as a player, How would you say?
- 8:21Speaker 3: What would be the skying report on yourself? And what
- 8:23Speaker 3: do you think do you do better than you know? Like, uh,
- 8:28Speaker 3: then what might be showing so far? What basically makes
- 8:31Speaker 3: you the type of player that you are, what makes
- 8:33Speaker 3: you your best whenever you're going your best?
- 8:36Speaker 2: Yeah, when I'm when I'm going good, I I feel
- 8:41Speaker 2: like I'm controlling the zone, you know, not not chasing anything,
- 8:47Speaker 2: not not swinging at pitchers pitches, even even if they
- 8:50Speaker 2: are strikes. And and I I feel like I give
- 8:56Speaker 2: pretty quality at bats consistently when I when I'm going good,
- 9:02Speaker 2: which I kind of take pride in. I feel like
- 9:04Speaker 2: that helps out the other guys on the team. You know,
- 9:08Speaker 2: when I watch a guy take a ten pitch at bat,
- 9:10Speaker 2: you know, Sam on deck, I'm pretty confident going up
- 9:14Speaker 2: after that guy, just you know, after seeing that the
- 9:18Speaker 2: pitcher kind of go to everything they have, you know,
- 9:23Speaker 2: as well as maybe they're they're a little tired after
- 9:25Speaker 2: a long battle like that. I feel like just giving
- 9:30Speaker 2: good at bat kind of instills confidence in the rest
- 9:34Speaker 2: of the lineup. So yeah, I think, you know, controlling
- 9:38Speaker 2: the strike zone, giving quality at bats, and then uh,
- 9:41Speaker 2: putting the ball in play and in making the defense
- 9:46Speaker 2: make a play. You know, that's I feel like when
- 9:50Speaker 2: I'm at my best. But you know, it's baseball, so
- 9:54Speaker 2: it's it's hard. It's it's hard to do that every
- 9:57Speaker 2: single time.
- 9:58Speaker 4: And doing all of those reasons, I would assume factor
- 10:02Speaker 4: into the equation for why Craig Albernaz, especially recently is bad.
- 10:07Speaker 2: Did you lead off?
- 10:08Speaker 4: What's it been like in the leadoff spot pretty often recently?
- 10:13Speaker 2: You know, it's been awesome. I I I try to
- 10:16Speaker 2: treat every spot in the lineup the same, you know,
- 10:18Speaker 2: I know I need to get a job done wherever
- 10:22Speaker 2: I am in the lineup, but you know, leading off,
- 10:26Speaker 2: you you you get the first step out of the game,
- 10:29Speaker 2: and uh, I feel like that's a pretty important at
- 10:32Speaker 2: bat for the whole team. So I've you know, I
- 10:37Speaker 2: try to see a couple of pitches if I can,
- 10:39Speaker 2: and work a good at bat and try and get
- 10:43Speaker 2: on for the guys after me. But yes, I've enjoyed it.
- 10:49Speaker 2: I hit lead off quite a bit and college and
- 10:53Speaker 2: the minors, so I'm fairly comfortable in that in that spot.
- 10:57Speaker 2: But you know, it's not two different than hitting you know, third, fourth, fifth,
- 11:04Speaker 2: or sixth.
- 11:05Speaker 1: To me, Dylan Beaver's our guest today on Birdland Territory.
- 11:09Speaker 1: That walk off hit was part of a rundown where
- 11:11Speaker 1: Jealan's batting about three hundred the last eleven games. The
- 11:14Speaker 1: bad is trending up and as you guys just discussed,
- 11:18Speaker 1: patting in the leadoff spot a lot for the Birds.
- 11:20Speaker 1: We're going to talk much more with Dylan in a
- 11:23Speaker 1: minute here on Birdland Territory.

- 12:48Speaker 1: happy to visit today with those out there or Dylan Beavers,
- 12:51Speaker 1: young guy had several chats with over the years in
- 12:54Speaker 1: Booie Man. We had some great interviews Dylan, and we
- 12:57Speaker 1: had a great one in the Oil Clubhouse not long
- 12:59Speaker 1: after you came up last year. And I want to
- 13:02Speaker 1: remind you what you told me then and get you
- 13:04Speaker 1: to tell that story again. Your first two years in
- 13:08Speaker 1: the minors twenty two and twenty three, you had great numbers,
- 13:10Speaker 1: well over eight hundred ops twenty four Double A fell
- 13:14Speaker 1: off a little bit seven fifty ish, which was good,
- 13:17Speaker 1: but not what the numbers you'd put up at lower levels.
- 13:20Speaker 1: As that year was ending, you met were asked to
- 13:24Speaker 1: meet with Anthony Bilda, the head of player development, and
- 13:27Speaker 1: Sherman Johnson, who was then the upper level hitting coordinator
- 13:30Speaker 1: who's now with the White Sox, and they had some
- 13:33Speaker 1: tweaks and changes and they just kind of reviewed your
- 13:36Speaker 1: year and wanted to discuss things that would help you
- 13:38Speaker 1: get better. As you explained to me, so by the way,
- 13:41Speaker 1: you went from a seven to fifty ops at Double
- 13:43Speaker 1: A to a nine thirty five in Triple A the
- 13:46Speaker 1: next year and found your way to the big leagues,
- 13:49Speaker 1: So that meeting seems pretty important in the scope of
- 13:52Speaker 1: your career, would you agree? And what was that? What
- 13:55Speaker 1: happened there?
- 13:57Speaker 2: Yeah, that that year was a struggle for sure. I
- 14:05Speaker 2: feel like seven point fifty is like not even that
- 14:11Speaker 2: bad compared to how it felt. It felt like I
- 14:13Speaker 2: played a whole lot worse in twenty four in double A,
- 14:17Speaker 2: and it was kind of eye opening, like, Okay, I
- 14:23Speaker 2: need to make some adjustments. You know, it's it's not
- 14:27Speaker 2: really what I'm doing now isn't cutting it. So I
- 14:34Speaker 2: I went I can't remember if I went to them,
- 14:38Speaker 2: but I had been talking to Sherman and kind of
- 14:41Speaker 2: expressing that I wasn't super happy with how it was going,
- 14:46Speaker 2: and I knew I was better than what I did
- 14:49Speaker 2: in twenty four, And so then Villa and Sherm kind
- 14:56Speaker 2: of after the season, we kind of discussed that we
- 14:59Speaker 2: were going to meet up in Florida and talk about
- 15:04Speaker 2: what what I did and kind of where I should
- 15:08Speaker 2: go moving forward to improve for next year, because I
- 15:13Speaker 2: basically told him I don't want to have another year
- 15:15Speaker 2: like that next year, and I'll do whatever I need
- 15:19Speaker 2: to do to not play bad like that again for
- 15:26Speaker 2: a consecutive years. So we went to Florida and we
- 15:29Speaker 2: just kind of compared my swing and what I was
- 15:34Speaker 2: doing to what some of the best hitters in the
- 15:37Speaker 2: big leagues do, and you know that we I'd say
- 15:42Speaker 2: we did probably like like two two hours worth of
- 15:48Speaker 2: looking at video and breaking down the swing and kind
- 15:53Speaker 2: of game planning where we wanted to go from there,
- 15:58Speaker 2: you know, and that that include it's like what I
- 16:01Speaker 2: wanted to swing to look like, where I wanted my
- 16:03Speaker 2: range of motion and mobility, you know, and whether it's
- 16:09Speaker 2: my hips or my shoulders or you know, whatever it
- 16:14Speaker 2: may be. We kind of discussed what I needed to
- 16:17Speaker 2: do to get into the spots that we wanted my
- 16:20Speaker 2: swing to be in. And they, you know, they helped
- 16:26Speaker 2: me quite a bit. They game planned it for me
- 16:29Speaker 2: basically and told me what they wanted to see and
- 16:32Speaker 2: how I needed to accomplish it and kind of set
- 16:39Speaker 2: me on my way that off season. And it took
- 16:44Speaker 2: the entirety of the off season to make those adjustments
- 16:48Speaker 2: and even a little bit in the spring and early
- 16:51Speaker 2: in the year in twenty five to see any results.
- 16:57Speaker 2: So but then you know, I started to figure it
- 17:00Speaker 2: out and it helped me quite a bit and improve
- 17:04Speaker 2: my consistency at the plate. So I'm really grateful to
- 17:08Speaker 2: those guys and the Orioles organization for helping me out
- 17:13Speaker 2: and pushing me in the right direction.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Cool, let me jump in a quick quick file before
- 17:18Speaker 1: I get to Brad here. And one thing Villa would
- 17:21Speaker 1: tell me later is he said, when we met with Dylan,
- 17:24Speaker 1: we reminded him, you're a major league player. That's how
- 17:27Speaker 1: we see you. Your stats may say what they say
- 17:30Speaker 1: for this year, that's a bump in the road. And
- 17:34Speaker 1: so when Villa was telling me that, it felt like
- 17:36Speaker 1: this is more than words. He truly did believe in this,
- 17:39Speaker 1: this young hitter. Was that important that you saw their confidence?
- 17:46Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, I mean, and honestly, I can't say that
- 17:50Speaker 2: there's been anyone in this organization that hasn't had confidence
- 17:56Speaker 2: to me at least, you know, whenever I speak with
- 17:58Speaker 2: staff or work with any of our staff, from the
- 18:02Speaker 2: time I was drafted to you know, at the field yesterday,
- 18:07Speaker 2: it's it's been they're they're super reassuring and uh, you know,
- 18:14Speaker 2: they they instill a lot of confidence into into me.
- 18:18Speaker 2: You know, I can't speak for everybody else, but for me,
- 18:22Speaker 2: I feel like this. The staff from the Orioles has
- 18:27Speaker 2: has always instilled confidence and uh, you know, any baseball
- 18:32Speaker 2: player knows that's uh, you know, of a lot of value.
- 18:36Speaker 2: So yeah, I'm very grateful for that.
- 18:41Speaker 3: That's awesome and honestly dealing like a lot of credit
- 18:43Speaker 3: to you to be young in your career, be a
- 18:46Speaker 3: high round draft pick and still seek advice. I think
- 18:48Speaker 3: a lot of people think it's just like you're a
- 18:50Speaker 3: high round pick, you just your cruise.
- 18:52Speaker 2: To the big leagues.
- 18:53Speaker 3: But to be able to you know, ask for help,
- 18:55Speaker 3: get help and apply it is impressive. I also have
- 18:58Speaker 3: uh kind of talked about the clubhouse culture. Every single
- 19:02Speaker 3: interview we've seen with everybody has talked about how this
- 19:05Speaker 3: group is so close and how it's such a tightening group.
- 19:07Speaker 3: And this is from April, through any of the struggles
- 19:09Speaker 3: you guys have had, it still feels like it's the
- 19:11Speaker 3: same thing what allows the clubhouse to be so confident
- 19:15Speaker 3: regardless of how the season has been going to this point.
- 19:21Speaker 2: I think it's it's definitely easy just because we I
- 19:24Speaker 2: feel like we have a lot of similar personalities in
- 19:31Speaker 2: the clubhouse. There's there's a lot of guys who are
- 19:34Speaker 2: kind of on the same page, and we we definitely
- 19:37Speaker 2: have fun, you know, even even when it's not going
- 19:40Speaker 2: our way. Obviously it's it's not fun losing, but you know,
- 19:44Speaker 2: we're not gonna let one bad game ruin the rest
- 19:49Speaker 2: of our week and uh, you know, ruin the vibes
- 19:52Speaker 2: and in the clubhouse. You know, we we know that
- 19:54Speaker 2: we need to show up the next day and uh
- 19:58Speaker 2: do it all over again, you knowigure it out and
- 20:01Speaker 2: find a way to win. But yeah, I feel like
- 20:05Speaker 2: it's just easy because we're we're kind of we're all
- 20:08Speaker 2: on the same page, and uh, we've got I I
- 20:12Speaker 2: believe we have some great leaders on the team who,
- 20:16Speaker 2: you know, when when we need to be put in check,
- 20:20Speaker 2: they'll they'll they'll be there to do that and uh
- 20:24Speaker 2: kind of get us back back on track. But yeah,
- 20:28Speaker 2: it's just been it's been great. And I think that's
- 20:33Speaker 2: kind of a you know, it's Mike and and his
- 20:38Speaker 2: team have put together a good clubhouse with with really
- 20:42Speaker 2: good guys. So I think that's, uh, that's very important.
- 20:45Speaker 2: You know, it's just as important as having a really
- 20:47Speaker 2: talented group, sure who.
- 20:50Speaker 4: Have been those leaders that you know, you guys will
- 20:53Speaker 4: lean on during those tough times.
- 20:57Speaker 2: Definitely, definitely Pete. He's he's been amazing, you know, from
- 21:03Speaker 2: from the when I met him at the caravan in
- 21:07Speaker 2: I think January January February, he's been like an amazing teammate,
- 21:15Speaker 2: you know, super super positive and uh, you know, I
- 21:22Speaker 2: think also Bassett obviously is he went down for a second,
- 21:27Speaker 2: so we're hoping to get him back soon. But same
- 21:31Speaker 2: thing with Bassett. You know, those those guys who have
- 21:33Speaker 2: been around the game and uh seen it all kind
- 21:37Speaker 2: of you know, those are those are the guys who
- 21:40Speaker 2: who when they're when they're talking to everyone's kind of listening.
- 21:43Speaker 2: And uh it's been really nice too to have them,
- 21:48Speaker 2: you know, step into that role and kind of hold
- 21:52Speaker 2: everyone accountable, you know, because they've they've been on teams
- 21:55Speaker 2: that that have had success and they've been on teams
- 21:57Speaker 2: that haven't, and uh so it's nice. You know, when
- 22:02Speaker 2: you hear them talk, you know that they're they're coming
- 22:05Speaker 2: from a place of experience and you can really trust
- 22:08Speaker 2: what they have to say.
- 22:12Speaker 1: Dylan Biaver's with us on Birdland Territory. Having a great
- 22:14Speaker 1: conversation with Dylan. We got to shoot a few more
- 22:17Speaker 1: questions his way here in a second. On Birdland Territory.
- 22:20Speaker 7: There is one place to be on trade deadline day
- 22:24Speaker 7: watching Foul Territory of course.
- 22:26Speaker 2: A J.
- 22:26Speaker 7: Perdinski, Aeric Kratz, and Scott Brown will be live all
- 22:29Speaker 7: afternoon speaking with insiders, reading tea leaves and reacting to
- 22:33Speaker 7: unfolding deadline drama. Join us on the ft YouTube channel
- 22:37Speaker 7: at one pm ET and stay locked in through the
- 22:40Speaker 7: six pm deadline next Monday. Foul Territory Network, It's baseball
- 22:44Speaker 7: the way it should be covered.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Dylan Bieber's with us today on Birdland Territory. Dylan in
- 22:51Speaker 1: our final minutes, One thing I would like to ask
- 22:53Speaker 1: you about. I've had some fascinating interviews and conversations with
- 22:56Speaker 1: players about social media criticism that comes for an individual
- 23:01Speaker 1: or the team. We're both. We're in a social media
- 23:04Speaker 1: age where everybody has a hot take and everybody's going
- 23:07Speaker 1: to express it. And I know my inbox is loaded
- 23:10Speaker 1: every day, and so if a player is on social media,
- 23:14Speaker 1: it's probably tenfold, maybe more than that. How do you
- 23:17Speaker 1: handle that as outside noise as maybe team you know,
- 23:23Speaker 1: I've heard ballplayers call it. How do you deal with that?
- 23:29Speaker 2: I typically try not to read too much you know
- 23:34Speaker 2: about what everyone has to say. You know, we we
- 23:41Speaker 2: know when we're not playing good, and we're just as
- 23:46Speaker 2: frustrated as anybody, any of our fans or anyone on
- 23:50Speaker 2: social media. So I don't think it's super productive to
- 23:55Speaker 2: go read a bunch of negative comments, you know, I
- 24:04Speaker 2: it's it's yeah, it's just tough, you know. I think
- 24:06Speaker 2: it's it's easier just to not worry about that, just
- 24:12Speaker 2: because I don't think any it's it's not going to
- 24:14Speaker 2: help you perform to go see what everyone has to say.
- 24:18Speaker 2: But you know, at the same time, you I'm a
- 24:21Speaker 2: sports fan as well, and you know, I can see
- 24:24Speaker 2: where a frustrated fan may be coming from. But yeah,
- 24:30Speaker 2: I think it's it's best just to focus on your
- 24:36Speaker 2: your team and and the performance, not go read everything
- 24:40Speaker 2: that everyone has to say on the internet.
- 24:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I can completely agree with that.
- 24:45Speaker 3: If if you can stay off but as much as possible,
- 24:48Speaker 3: do that. But how about just for yourself moving forward
- 24:51Speaker 3: the rest of the season, what are your goals, what
- 24:53Speaker 3: are your aspirations? What do you what do you envision
- 24:56Speaker 3: happening for yourself individually?
- 24:58Speaker 7: Uh?
- 24:58Speaker 2: The rest of the season in here, Uh, first of all,
- 25:03Speaker 2: I want to stay healthy. I learned this season that
- 25:09Speaker 2: it's it's hard to come back from an injury, and
- 25:14Speaker 2: in professional baseball, and in the big leagues for that matter,
- 25:20Speaker 2: it makes it even more difficult. So, you know, I
- 25:24Speaker 2: want to make sure I'm healthy, and uh, I want
- 25:28Speaker 2: to make sure I do everything I can to help
- 25:31Speaker 2: the team win, and uh, you know, see us, see
- 25:35Speaker 2: us in October. I'd like to play better than I
- 25:41Speaker 2: than I have this season to this point. But uh,
- 25:45Speaker 2: I feel like at the end of the day, you know,
- 25:48Speaker 2: if I played the you know, put up the same
- 25:51Speaker 2: numbers I'm putting up right now and we're winning it,
- 25:53Speaker 2: it won't really matters as long as I can kind
- 25:56Speaker 2: of help the team win, you know.
- 25:59Speaker 4: In this sort of picks up from Steve's last question, Uh,
- 26:03Speaker 4: this is your first experience on the big league team
- 26:06Speaker 4: around the trade deadline, and there's so many rumors swirling
- 26:10Speaker 4: and the American League is such a jumbled mess. No
- 26:13Speaker 4: one knows what to make of what team is going
- 26:15Speaker 4: to do. But how do you try to block out
- 26:19Speaker 4: that noise? Is that even brought up in the clubhouse
- 26:23Speaker 4: at all? What has it been like in this lead
- 26:25Speaker 4: up to the deadline.
- 26:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that obviously, there's it's it's an interesting experience.
- 26:37Speaker 2: There's a there's a lot going on. A lot of
- 26:39Speaker 2: people have their guesses or ideas of what's going to
- 26:44Speaker 2: happen in the future, but you know, until anything happens,
- 26:51Speaker 2: it's it's not like anything's changed. So it's for for me,
- 26:58Speaker 2: I just show up to the field every day and
- 27:03Speaker 2: you know, get my work in, do all my prep
- 27:06Speaker 2: and and try and help help us win a game
- 27:10Speaker 2: if if I'm in there that day, and I feel
- 27:14Speaker 2: like that's probably the most efficient way to do it,
- 27:17Speaker 2: just because you're kind of just controlling what you can
- 27:21Speaker 2: and taking a day to day. But yeah, I mean
- 27:27Speaker 2: it's it's not like I'm completely we ignore what what
- 27:32Speaker 2: could happen if we don't play well. But yeah, it's
- 27:38Speaker 2: it's it's an interesting spot to be and I've never
- 27:41Speaker 2: experienced anything like it, But you know, to this point,
- 27:45Speaker 2: just take it day by day and try and win
- 27:47Speaker 2: the day, because if we win a bunch of games,
- 27:50Speaker 2: you know, I think it puts us in a good spot.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Jill, let me shoot one more question your way. We'll
- 27:56Speaker 1: wrap it up and thank you so much for your
- 27:58Speaker 1: time today. And one of The cool thing for me
- 28:01Speaker 1: is meeting kids out of the draft like I met
- 28:03Speaker 1: you in twenty twenty two, and seeing them progress throughout
- 28:07Speaker 1: and saying, well, that kid, one day come into the
- 28:09Speaker 1: Oil clubhouse and make it, because so few do you
- 28:12Speaker 1: beat a lot of odds going from the draft to
- 28:15Speaker 1: a major league clubhouse. And Brad Brock did the same thing.
- 28:19Speaker 1: And so if I were the Orioles, I'd bring you
- 28:23Speaker 1: with the current group of draft picks and I talk
- 28:27Speaker 1: about what they're about to face over the next three years.
- 28:30Speaker 1: The ups and downs, the pressures, the anguish when you
- 28:34Speaker 1: go two for twenty, the high when you're tearing it
- 28:38Speaker 1: up for a week at Booie and feeling like I
- 28:40Speaker 1: can do this. What advice would you give them? And
- 28:43Speaker 1: tell them, man, the next two or three years are
- 28:46Speaker 1: going to feature this, and here are some ways you
- 28:48Speaker 1: can handle that.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it's like cliche, but never get too
- 28:55Speaker 2: high or too low. You know you hear it all
- 28:58Speaker 2: the time if you are, because I've done it in
- 29:03Speaker 2: the past, you know you. I think a lot of
- 29:05Speaker 2: people are guilty of it. If if you ride the
- 29:07Speaker 2: highs and uh, you know you you feel like the
- 29:10Speaker 2: man when you're when you're playing well and then you
- 29:13Speaker 2: know two weeks later you're going to get punched in
- 29:17Speaker 2: the mouth, and uh, you know it's going to hurt
- 29:21Speaker 2: more if if you know, you were riding the high.
- 29:25Speaker 2: I feel like, so if you can be as neutral
- 29:31Speaker 2: as possible no matter what the results are on the field,
- 29:34Speaker 2: that's where I've found I have the most success.
- 29:36Speaker 7: And uh.
- 29:40Speaker 2: Keep my sanity that way, you know, if if you're
- 29:43Speaker 2: trying to remain as neutral as possible, but uh, you
- 29:46Speaker 2: know was on top of that, I think just showing
- 29:49Speaker 2: up every day and uh you know, executing your preparation
- 29:55Speaker 2: and uh, you know, trying to get better no matter
- 29:59Speaker 2: how the how the results are on the field. You
- 30:02Speaker 2: know there's gonna be ups and downs, but just keep
- 30:05Speaker 2: showing up. Never never, you know, sit there and feel
- 30:09Speaker 2: bad for yourself. You know, you gotta keep your foot
- 30:12Speaker 2: on the pedal and continue to get your work even
- 30:15Speaker 2: when it's not going your way.
- 30:18Speaker 1: Well, I think Birdland could hear how much thought and
- 30:21Speaker 1: work and process you put into that. And I am
- 30:25Speaker 1: excited to see you del Marvack, Frederick Aberdeen and all
- 30:30Speaker 1: these steps and coming to Baltimore and have success. Man,
- 30:33Speaker 1: that's really cool. You earned it, and hopefully you and
- 30:36Speaker 1: the Orioles keep riding the high up Detroit through the
- 30:39Speaker 1: final two months and we have some fun the rest
- 30:41Speaker 1: of the season. Dylan, thanks so much for being on
- 30:44Speaker 1: Birdland Territory today. We really enjoyed talking with you.
- 30:48Speaker 2: Yeah, thank you guys all for having me. It's been fun.
- 30:51Speaker 1: Birdland. Hope you enjoyed that one. I know we did,
- 30:54Speaker 1: and we really appreciate Dylan Beaver's taking time. And we'll
- 30:57Speaker 1: see him and the birds at the ballpark this week,
- 31:00Speaker 1: and Tim and Brad I'll see you guys in a
- 31:02Speaker 1: few days when we reconvene with another edition of Birdland Territory.
