- 0:00Hi everyone. Welcome to Mini Scroll, the
- 0:02daily Internet culture podcast bringing you the biggest stories
- 0:05from social media, the creator economy, and the digital space.
- 0:09Every Monday through Thursday, I'm your host, Lauren Meisner,
- 0:12the founder of the youth digital media brand Centennial World.
- 0:16Welcome back to Mini Scroll, everyone.
- 0:18We've had a small glow up for the YouTube girlies.
- 0:22I got this beautiful little storage thing so we can have
- 0:25some storage in our office and it is housing now.
- 0:28Our mini scroll sign which I feel like is perfect and our Rd.
- 0:32mixer and I got this curtain. I did iron it, I brought it home
- 0:36and I ironed it. It doesn't look like I did but I
- 0:38swear I did and I hung it up over the green wall.
- 0:41OK no more green wall. So I feel like we are one more
- 0:45step there with the setup. The lighting is still not
- 0:49exactly perfect. I feel like it makes me look old
- 0:52and haggard, but we will get there anyways.
- 0:55On to the stories for today because we have a lot to cover.
- 0:59So I'm going to start with the happy news first and then I'm
- 1:02going to get into some more serious stuff.
- 1:04So the first story that I have for you guys is that Haley and
- 1:07Justin Bieber are expecting their first child.
- 1:10So Haley and Justin Bieber are going to be parents.
- 1:13The couple announced the news of Haley's pregnancy via Instagram
- 1:16this weekend with a photo shoot of the couple in the desert.
- 1:19Haley was dressed in a vintage Lacy like wedding dress esque
- 1:23gown and there's all these pictures of Justin taking her
- 1:26photo and the two of them together.
- 1:28It's actually like a beautiful photo shoot.
- 1:30It reminds me a lot of, I mean that kind of aesthetic is just
- 1:33like really in right now for like wedding and announcement
- 1:37type of like romantic photo shoots.
- 1:38It's very like Lana Del Rey. It reminds me a lot of Kourtney
- 1:43Kardashian and Travis Barker's like first wedding when they got
- 1:46married just at the Chapel together, their first like
- 1:49wedding vibe. Shortly after announcing the
- 1:50news, however, Justin's mom commented on Instagram causing a
- 1:54bit of controversy when she wrote that the couple will make
- 1:56the most beautiful grand babies, leading to speculation that they
- 2:01were expecting twins. Justin's mom quickly shut down
- 2:04the speculation in the comments, saying that she just meant like
- 2:07in general they will make beautiful grand babies for her.
- 2:10And then a Rep before Haley confirmed to Entertainment
- 2:13Tonight that she is about 6 months along, a source told the
- 2:16outlet Quote Haley and Justin are thrilled to be expecting a
- 2:19baby together. They have wanted this for a long
- 2:21time and can't wait to expand their family and bring a child
- 2:23into the world. Haley and Justin are united and
- 2:26have been on the same page when it comes to parenthood.
- 2:28They've experienced so much together as a couple and feel
- 2:31ready to take this next step in their lives and relationship.
- 2:33Haley is such a natural caretaker and Justin knows she
- 2:36will be the best mom and Haley has always thought that Justin
- 2:39will make an amazing dad. Haley Justin, their families and
- 2:41loved ones are so excited for this beautiful blessing.
- 2:44Cute love that. I mean.
- 2:46Not surprising, the Bieber's have been very open even with
- 2:49the public about their desire to have children and I feel like
- 2:53maybe they were waiting for their health.
- 2:54Like both of their health has not been great in the past few
- 2:57years. So both of their health issues
- 2:58to kind of, you know, subside a bit before they ventured into
- 3:02this journey. But here we are.
- 3:05All right. The next story that I have for
- 3:06you guys is that Haley Bailey or AKA Haley Khalil has apologized
- 3:12for her Met Gala let them eat cake video.
- 3:16So last week Tik Toker Haley Bailey posted a video at the Met
- 3:19Gala dressed in a Marie Antoinette inspired dress and
- 3:22lip synced the sound. Let them eat cake.
- 3:25Watch last Thursday's mini scroll for a full breakdown on
- 3:28why this rubbed people so the wrong way, but it so did.
- 3:33It made people so upset and it kicked off this massive backlash
- 3:38which I will get to in my next story of like this.
- 3:40It kicked off like a movement essentially against celebrities.
- 3:44So I think the initial strategy was maybe for Haley to avoid
- 3:48addressing this. She didn't address it, she
- 3:51didn't even take her video down and she just kept posting like
- 3:53normal for days and days. And then this movement, which I
- 3:56will address in my next story, kicked off and I feel as though
- 4:00she is worried now that she will never be invited to any of these
- 4:03like elite events again. Because celebrities and
- 4:06influencers and PR people and just everyone in the industry is
- 4:10probably so frustrated with her right now.
- 4:12So she has made an apology video.
- 4:14Hey, guys. I know what a lot of you guys
- 4:16want from me right now is answers and I want nothing more
- 4:19than to give them to you. So hopefully I can answer every
- 4:23question that you have about what happened on Monday night.
- 4:26About a week and a half before the Met Gala I was contacted by
- 4:29E to see if I had any interest in being a pre Met Gala host.
- 4:32There are usually three hotels that celebrities leave from to
- 4:35go to the Met Gala. I was stationed at what's called
- 4:37the Mark I was supposed to do content with celebrities and on
- 4:40air about their departures to the Met.
- 4:44The Met is one of the most exclusive events in all of
- 4:47fashion. You have to be handpicked by
- 4:49Anna Winter herself to go. That's the only way that you get
- 4:53there. I was not.
- 4:54I was not invited by Anna Wintour.
- 4:56I did not hold an actual invitation to the Met Gala.
- 4:59I was involved only as a host, meaning that the moment that the
- 5:02last attendee left the hotel, I went home and I watched the Met
- 5:07Gala coverage from my couch with my friends.
- 5:11That is also why you haven't seen any photos of me on the
- 5:14white and green carpet for the Met Gala, because I was working
- 5:18at the mark and I literally wasn't even invited to the Met
- 5:20Gala, so security would have definitely dragged me out.
- 5:22I paid no amount of money to go to the gala because I wasn't
- 5:26invited. Since I was little, I have
- 5:28idolized the Met. I love the costumes and the
- 5:31design and it has always been one of my biggest dreams to be
- 5:35invited to attend. After entering content creation,
- 5:38I was told that those dreams are nearly impossible if you are not
- 5:41in one of the inner circles of fashion.
- 5:43So when E reached out to me with interest in being a pre Met Gala
- 5:48host, I immediately said yes because I just wanted to get
- 5:52even remotely close to it just to like see the thing I had
- 5:57idolized for so long. I was at the mark, which is on
- 5:5977th St. and the Metropolitan Museum is on 82nd St. so that's
- 6:05about as close as I was allowed to get to the Met Gala People
- 6:08that you saw behind me in my videos were people that were
- 6:12lined up outside the mark to do the exact same thing as me,
- 6:15which was get content with celebrities as they departed for
- 6:18the Met. The dress that I wore was made
- 6:20by hand by a friend. Mark is one of my nearest and
- 6:23dearest friends. I met him back when I was
- 6:25modeling and we just stayed friends.
- 6:27So then when all of this red carpet stuff started happening
- 6:30for me, I reached out to him and he started to help me and and
- 6:35make dresses for me by hand out of literally the kindness of his
- 6:39own heart. I have never paid him a cent.
- 6:41He has never paid me. We just work on the dresses
- 6:44together because we find it to be really fun.
- 6:46Every single dress I've worn on a carpet this year has all been
- 6:49made by hand by Mark. I have not paid anyone anything.
- 6:54I haven't bought dresses. I haven't paid designers.
- 6:56Mark is the only person that I have worked with.
- 6:58Mark does not have a factory. Mark does not employ a bunch of
- 7:03people to work on these dresses. Every single dress he has made
- 7:06for me, he's made by himself, with no one else's help by hand,
- 7:10out of literally nothing more than the kindness of his own
- 7:13heart. And he's one of the only reasons
- 7:14I've even been able to do what I've done this year, because I
- 7:17wouldn't have had the dresses to go to these events if it hadn't
- 7:20been for him. This now brings me to the audio
- 7:23that I used for that particular video.
- 7:25And first and foremost, before I say anything, I need to
- 7:27apologize. I am so, so, so sorry that I
- 7:30chose a sound that you guys could ever possibly feel was
- 7:34malicious in nature. If I had thought for even one
- 7:36second that the sound would be received that way, I never ever
- 7:40ever ever ever ever ever would have used it.
- 7:42When I film my Tik Toks, I love to use trending audios and
- 7:45sounds that people are currently using, and this was one of them.
- 7:48The sound has been used in over 110,000 TikTok videos.
- 7:52It's the current trending audio of a glow up trend in the United
- 7:55States and abroad. It's also been used by different
- 7:58makeup artists in the last couple weeks to create Marie
- 8:00Antoinette looks. Let them eat cake.
- 8:03He take the bomb. He take the bomb.
- 8:08And it's been used by big and small craters alike, with no
- 8:12negative feedback or no negative discussion in the comments.
- 8:16Let them eat cake. He take the.
- 8:18Let them eat cake. He take the.
- 8:21Let them eat cake. He.
- 8:24Take. The.
- 8:28Let them eat cake he take. The.
- 8:34The sound choice truly had no deeper meaning.
- 8:37I never would have chosen a sound on purpose to highlight
- 8:40wealth disparity or elitism. I never even thought it would be
- 8:43taken in that way because I wasn't elite enough to even be
- 8:47invited to the Met Gala. Because I'm not elite, I'm a
- 8:49normal person. My dumb self just used an audio
- 8:52that I thought was viral and trending and that people
- 8:55recognized from the Marie Antoinette 2006 movie.
- 8:59Let them eat cake. I didn't think that much into
- 9:06it, and for that I am so sorry. I did not do my due diligence
- 9:09like I'm so stupid because the things going on in the world
- 9:13today are weighing heavily on everyone's hearts.
- 9:16Innocent men, women and children are dying.
- 9:17People do not have access to food and water.
- 9:20People are being kicked out of their homes.
- 9:21There are so many things going on in this world that are just
- 9:24wrong. I know that this situation is
- 9:27very complex. I also know that I don't know
- 9:31the right thing to do or say a lot of the time, which leads me
- 9:35to the question everyone is asking, which is why don't I
- 9:40talk about it? And it's simply because I am not
- 9:43informed enough to talk about it in a meaningful and educational
- 9:49way. I do not have the background
- 9:51knowledge to educate or discuss in a meaningful way.
- 9:56I grew on social media as a comedy creator and I love
- 10:02comedy. I love making videos and that's
- 10:05how I gained my platform. But that doesn't mean that the
- 10:09second I started gaining followers on the platform that I
- 10:12automatically knew the right thing to say when it came to
- 10:15world affairs or wars or disputes or death or destruction
- 10:22or crisis. I still am just that same girl
- 10:26who wanted to post her first comedy video a year and a half
- 10:30ago on TikTok. But I do know that as somebody
- 10:34with a big platform, it is my responsibility to always try to
- 10:39be a positive voice and to always try to better myself and
- 10:45be a good example for my audience, because I never want
- 10:50to let them down. At the end of the day, I want to
- 10:52make sure that my words are used for good, and when I don't think
- 10:56that I'm informed enough on a situation, I try not to comment
- 11:00until I am confident that I am actually informed and the things
- 11:05that I'm saying are true. If the pandemic taught me one
- 11:08thing, it was that sometimes celebrities and creators need to
- 11:12sit down and be quiet so that other people's voices can be
- 11:16magnified. The people that are actually
- 11:18well educated and informed on the situation, they're the ones
- 11:22who should be speaking about it. Just because somebody has a
- 11:24following doesn't mean they're necessarily the right person to
- 11:27speak on the issue, especially if they are ill informed or
- 11:32uninformed on that issue. I do all of this on my own.
- 11:35I don't have a fancy team that selects my sounds or edits my
- 11:38videos or posts my videos or writes the caption.
- 11:41I don't have an editor. I post everything myself.
- 11:44Everything that you see was probably filmed by either me or
- 11:48my boyfriend, edited by me, and then posted by me.
- 11:51And sometimes I am dumb and sometimes I mess up.
- 11:55Sometimes I don't correctly anticipate how people will react
- 11:59or feel to something and for that I am truly so so so so
- 12:03sorry. It breaks my heart that a video
- 12:05that I posted has added to any of this.
- 12:09It breaks my heart that a video that I posted has made anyone
- 12:12feel less seen or less heard. So again, from the bottom of my
- 12:17heart I am so sorry. You do not have to accept my
- 12:20apology, but just know that I am so sorry and I really hope that
- 12:24this sheds a light on all of these issues and opens up a very
- 12:28important discussion at the end of the day.
- 12:29I am glad though that an unintentional mistake has now
- 12:33been the catalyst for discussing wealth inequality, world crisis,
- 12:37and will hopefully bring about the leaders whose voices should
- 12:40be heard in this. And again, I'm sorry.
- 12:42It is my job as a content creator to apologize whenever I
- 12:46make anyone feel unseen or unheard, even if it's
- 12:48unintentional, and just know that no matter what, I love you.
- 12:52Thank you for being here, and thank you for watching this
- 12:55whole video if you made it this far.
- 12:57Haley also commented on Mini Scrolls TikTok from Thursday.
- 13:02She wrote. I did not know the historical
- 13:03background of this quote. I thought it was a viral audio
- 13:06from a 2006 movie. I am so sorry.
- 13:08I would have never used it if I had known.
- 13:10The video has been taken down. Like I said Thursday, I don't
- 13:13think she made this video with I'll intentions.
- 13:16I think she didn't think about it too much.
- 13:18And that's kind of the point of what people are saying and
- 13:21that's why people are mad, is that having the luxury to not
- 13:25think about that and to not think about something like that
- 13:28that you're posting in this current political and socio
- 13:31economic climate is just so off base.
- 13:34However, the backlash against Haley did get very intense, like
- 13:37I said, and it has sparked this digital movement that started
- 13:40over the weekend that users are now calling Block Out 2024.
- 13:44So the ideology behind Block Out 2024 is to block mega
- 13:48celebrities who have not spoken out about Palestine.
- 13:51The first celebrity targeted, at least that I saw, was Kim
- 13:54Kardashian. The idea was that if millions of
- 13:57people block Kim, then she loses all these followers and she also
- 14:01can't advertise to those people anymore and that will put
- 14:04pressure on her to speak up. So the concept behind the
- 14:07movement really makes sense. But I wanted to address some of
- 14:11the criticisms against this movement and some of the
- 14:13problems that I am seeing as an Internet culture expert
- 14:17journalist who spends all my time literally on TikTok and
- 14:20online scrolling through things. I'm not an activist expert by
- 14:24any means, but from an Internet culture perspective.
- 14:27So the problem that I'm seeing now is that too many users are
- 14:30jumping in trying to be the organizers of this like digital
- 14:34guillotine that we're calling it.
- 14:37And there are now like hundreds of lists going around online of
- 14:40who to block. So that makes it a less
- 14:43impactful because it's not as targeted.
- 14:45So the celebrities that are getting blocked are actually not
- 14:48losing as many followers as they could be if we were going about
- 14:51it in like an organized list, like day by day type of way #2
- 14:57or BI forget if I said one or two or A or B, whatever.
- 15:00The second one is that it's centering the celebrities and
- 15:04the influencers in the conversation as opposed to a
- 15:07centering Palestine. So an example of this is there's
- 15:11a video that I saw yesterday of somebody talking about how they
- 15:14hope Kim Kardashian loses more than just quote UN quote
- 15:173,000,000 followers. There's like a rumor going
- 15:19around that she's already lost 3,000,000 followers.
- 15:21I have not fact checked that I don't think that's quite true,
- 15:24but regardless, even if she has, this video is a woman saying I
- 15:27hope she loses more than 3,000,000 followers.
- 15:29I open the comments on this video and it is just filled with
- 15:32people. And this is just one example.
- 15:33These examples are everywhere, but you know, it's just filled
- 15:36with people saying, you know, I hope she has to work in retail.
- 15:39I hope she loses so much that she ends up struggling to feed
- 15:41her four children. I hope she learns what it feels
- 15:43like to struggle to buy groceries and pay your rent at
- 15:46the same time. Things like that, like people
- 15:48explaining their hardships and saying they hope Kim feels that.
- 15:52I understand the sentiment. I understand wishing that the
- 15:55elite, that the billionaires of the world could feel the
- 15:59struggles that we feel. But that is not the point of the
- 16:03block list movement. The point of this movement is to
- 16:06draw more attention to Palestine.
- 16:09So by centering Kim in the conversation and hoping and
- 16:13saying that you hope that she loses so much from this blocking
- 16:17that she ends up, you know, having to work in retail or
- 16:19whatever, which is like never going to be the point that she's
- 16:22never going to have to work in retail.
- 16:23OK. But regardless, by us saying
- 16:26things like that, it dilutes the message.
- 16:28The point of blocking Kim is not that we hope that she loses so
- 16:32many followers that she has to go be a regular person.
- 16:35The point is that it will get her attention.
- 16:37It's the same way as, like when you e-mail your MP, for example,
- 16:40and you're just flooding their inbox.
- 16:42It's not because you're hoping that, you know, they get so
- 16:45frustrated that they quit their job.
- 16:47It's that you want to get their attention.
- 16:49You're trying to get their attention to address the matter
- 16:51that you want addressed. And so with Kim, it's like, yes,
- 16:54we want to be able to like, hit her where it hurts, essentially
- 16:57with this block list with everybody that is being blocked,
- 16:59right? It's like hit them where it
- 17:01hurts, block them so that they lose followers and therefore
- 17:04lose revenue, and then maybe they will speak out about the
- 17:06thing we want them to speak out about.
- 17:07It's not about her losing so many followers or so much money
- 17:11that she has to go work in retail.
- 17:12It's not really about that. So I have just seen countless
- 17:16videos and comment sections filled with people trying to
- 17:19push their own like project their own stressors that they're
- 17:23experiencing very valid stressors in the world right now
- 17:26on these celebrities. That's not the point of the
- 17:28block list and that is getting completely diluted, OK.
- 17:31And the third thing that I'm seeing is that with too many
- 17:34lists and too many organizers of these lists, there is no clear
- 17:38movement anymore. So when it comes to this whole
- 17:42situation, we need to really understand like what are the
- 17:44criteria for celebrities to get on this list?
- 17:47Because literally some lists that I have seen, you guys have
- 17:50Bella Hadid on it. I don't even think I need to
- 17:53explain why that is so off base for Bella Hadid to be on a block
- 17:56list for not speaking up enough about Palestine.
- 17:59She is Palestinian and she is literally been advocating for
- 18:02Palestine for years and years and years, well before seven
- 18:04months ago. We need to know why we're
- 18:06blocking these people. We need to know what the end
- 18:08goal is. Because like I just said, the
- 18:10end goal is getting lost. I think the message is getting
- 18:13lost and how can we ensure that this action is the most
- 18:17productive to our end goal? There's a lot of disorganization
- 18:20around the block list and therefore the tangible results
- 18:24that we could be getting out of it.
- 18:26I don't think we will. And this is not unique to the
- 18:30block list. If we look back at BLM and the
- 18:34black square situation that happened, you know everybody was
- 18:38posting black squares on their Instagrams and hashtagging BLM
- 18:42or Black Lives Matter. And what that ended up doing in
- 18:45the end was flooding Instagram with black squares with the
- 18:50hashtag. So when someone clicked on the
- 18:51hashtag, instead of actually getting the right resources and
- 18:54information from the organization or from people who
- 18:57were helping in the movement, they just got a whole explore
- 19:00page of black squares. And that drowned out all of the
- 19:04actual information. And I think it's interesting to
- 19:06think about how social media has been both a blessing to activism
- 19:11and a curse. You know, of course, on the
- 19:13blessing side of things, it is bringing so much awareness.
- 19:18It is creating these digital movements that, you know,
- 19:21otherwise people might have not even really cared to partake in
- 19:24prior to social media, caring about these different causes,
- 19:27raising money, helping out. It's obviously done a lot of
- 19:30good, but on on the other hand, I think social media is really
- 19:34interesting because if you think about pre social media, if you
- 19:37wanted to engage in activism, you had to actively seek out an
- 19:42organization. And when you became part of that
- 19:45organization, there's a structure in place, there's a
- 19:48hierarchy in place and you are following the organization's
- 19:52leader and you are following their lead.
- 19:53You're following their practices, their systems in
- 19:56place, you know their rules, their guidelines you didn't walk
- 19:59into. An organization and say I want
- 20:02to help, let me take over. You know you walked in and you
- 20:05said I want to help. How can I help?
- 20:07And let me take your direction. There are systems in place when
- 20:11it comes to activism to ensure that the work being done is
- 20:15intentional and productive. But what I think is at the root
- 20:19of all of this, I've been thinking about this so much this
- 20:21weekend. What I think is at the root of
- 20:23this is media literacy or a lack of media literacy.
- 20:27So this is not new. We have seen over the last few
- 20:30years how the world in general we struggle with a media
- 20:33literacy problem. So again, before social media,
- 20:37if you were getting information on a genocide for example, you
- 20:40were getting it from a reliable source.
- 20:42So you were reading about it in a newspaper, you were reading
- 20:45about it even online, just like pre social media, even if it was
- 20:48like you know a publishers website or something like that,
- 20:51you were hearing about it on the news, on television.
- 20:53Obviously most media entities have a bias.
- 20:57They might lean left, they might lean right.
- 20:59But regardless, the information that you were being presented
- 21:02was from a fact based source, like a journalist, and they had
- 21:05to vet the information and there were, you know, editors involved
- 21:09and they were fact checkers involved.
- 21:11And what you were getting at the root of it was factual
- 21:14information. But now with social media,
- 21:17obviously anybody can make a Twitter account and Instagram a
- 21:19TikTok and claim to be an expert on things and try and start
- 21:22their own movements and they can even buy verification from some
- 21:27of these platforms now so they look more legitimate.
- 21:30So while yes, everyone right now should be informed about what is
- 21:34happening in Palestine, like you would have to be quite literally
- 21:37living under a rock to not know what is going on.
- 21:41I think media literacy in terms of like people's action being
- 21:44taken is so rarely part of the conversation and it's a big part
- 21:48of the conversation. I think people genuinely don't
- 21:51know how to vet a source. They don't know how to do proper
- 21:55research like fact based research.
- 21:57So what ends up happening is people want to get on board.
- 22:00We are scrolling on TikTok and we're bombarded with all these
- 22:03videos about a block list for example, and we want to partake.
- 22:06That feels like an accessible, tangible way to make a
- 22:10difference. But it's very difficult I think
- 22:13a lot of times for the end user to vet the source that they are
- 22:16getting this from, the creator that they are getting this from.
- 22:19So with the block list, there's a lot of good intention behind
- 22:22the initiative, but I think it's being derailed by the
- 22:25disorganization of it all and by the end user not fully
- 22:28understanding who they're getting these block lists from
- 22:32and why they're doing it. And people don't want to be
- 22:34complicit. They want to do good.
- 22:36They want to get involved. We saw that with the black
- 22:38square, you know, like it was a very easy, I mean and some
- 22:41people might say performative, but it was an easy way to get
- 22:44involved, an accessible way to get involved, to show your
- 22:47support. And it was not handled properly
- 22:50because we didn't quite understand the end user, didn't
- 22:53quite understand the purpose of the movement and the purpose of
- 22:57that post. So I think to avoid this, I came
- 23:01up with like a few. This is very high level.
- 23:02Again, I am not an activist expert, so if you guys are
- 23:06comment down below, give us some other tips.
- 23:09But I think in terms of like an an academic perspective, like a
- 23:12journalistic perspective, how you can vet better on TikTok to
- 23:16make sure that you're actually like getting the most out of the
- 23:18movements that you're engaging with.
- 23:20Number one, I would say search the creator's name or the
- 23:22organization's name on Google. This won't always bring up what
- 23:26you want because I mean I was, I was actually just talking to a
- 23:29friend about this yesterday. But if you go on some of the
- 23:32major news outlets on in Australia for example, I live in
- 23:36Australia. I don't know if that's clear all
- 23:37the time because I do have a Canadian accent, but I live in
- 23:40Australia. If you go on all the major news
- 23:43publishers, so many of them don't even have any story about
- 23:46Palestine on the front page. So it's not always going to work
- 23:51out this way. But Google an organization.
- 23:53See if it has any reputable media coverage.
- 23:56If you trust that media organization, if you don't know,
- 23:59if you trust a media organization also, just keep
- 24:02looking into it. Google it.
- 24:04Look at different people that follow that organization.
- 24:06If you trust them. If a news article has, you know,
- 24:10experts quoted, look up those experts.
- 24:13What do they stand for? What have people said about
- 24:15them? Number two, I would say go to
- 24:17this person's profile. If it's like TikTok for example
- 24:19at or Twitter and somebody saying like block, all these
- 24:22celebrities go to their profile, look at who follows them, look
- 24:25at who they follow, look at if they have any other videos like
- 24:29this, who engages in their comments, Are they a reputable
- 24:32creator to be taking you know, direction from #3?
- 24:37I would say if you really want to get involved in something and
- 24:39you want to learn more about it, you don't need to follow
- 24:42everyone that is posting about it because that is going to a
- 24:46bombard you and it's going to start to make you numb to the
- 24:49situation. You know, I think a big part of
- 24:51the problem too is that people with algorithms get bombarded by
- 24:54information about like one single topic and then they start
- 24:57to disengage. So you don't need to follow
- 24:59everyone, Just find like one or two organizations or creators
- 25:04that are genuinely doing the work and follow them and take
- 25:07their lead. When it comes to Palestine, I
- 25:10would say Operation Olive Branch and Pass the Hat by Aaron
- 25:14Hademer. Those are two creators,
- 25:16organizations, movements to follow that I mean I would
- 25:20consider reputable. I would love to hear some other
- 25:23suggestions down below for sure. But I think the point that I'm
- 25:25trying to make after all of this is that activism is all about
- 25:29organization and organization has to remain central to these
- 25:33efforts. Otherwise it will end up another
- 25:36Black Square situation. All right, that's it for today
- 25:39guys. Thank you so much for listening
- 25:41to Mini Scroll. Please remember to rate, review
- 25:43and subscribe. It helps me so much.
- 25:45It helps me grow. I would love to hear your
- 25:47feedback and I will talk to you guys tomorrow.
- 25:50Bye.
