- 0:04Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time presented by PrizePix.
- 0:09Speaker 1: My name is Beaumont E. Jones. Thanks for listening wherever
- 0:10Speaker 1: you get your podcasts. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:15Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:17Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:20Speaker 1: a hater. It is a lot of NFL to talk about.
- 0:24Speaker 1: We'll also get to that one thing I said I
- 0:26Speaker 1: wasn't going to talk about no more, but it got
- 0:28Speaker 1: interesting again. But anyway, Ryan looked at me terrified when
- 0:32Speaker 1: I mentioned that, like you did not know that I
- 0:33Speaker 1: had planned for us to talk about that one thing.
- 0:36Speaker 2: You know, like, That one thing could be lots of things, unfortunately.
- 0:39Speaker 1: You know the one I'm talking about.
- 0:40Speaker 2: I do know the one you're talking about.
- 0:42Speaker 1: But it'll be cool. It'll be cool. You know, like
- 0:44Speaker 1: every now and then I got to change my mind
- 0:46Speaker 1: about something. I'm sure nobody's going to like it. But
- 0:48Speaker 1: you know what? I'm going to do it anyway. Speaking
- 0:52Speaker 1: of nobody liking it, I'm here to talk to you
- 0:55Speaker 1: Rams fans and Eagles fans. You didn't like that, did you?
- 1:00Speaker 1: I mean... The Rams won. You certainly like to win, right?
- 1:04Speaker 1: Nobody wants to lose. Good for you, Rams. You have
- 1:07Speaker 1: to feel better about that. But I just want to
- 1:09Speaker 1: throw out there that three-time Pro Bowl quarterback, Matthew Stafford,
- 1:14Speaker 1: he's doing those Stafford-y things. I don't know. He does
- 1:18Speaker 1: Stafford-y things. When he is on, he is on. And
- 1:21Speaker 1: by the way, he brought it home at the end
- 1:23Speaker 1: in a way that's going to become very relevant to
- 1:26Speaker 1: our discussion a little bit later. But man, he was
- 1:28Speaker 1: out there on some Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. We'll get to
- 1:32Speaker 1: the king of Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, Josh Allen, a little
- 1:34Speaker 1: bit later. But for right now, that was... The interceptions
- 1:38Speaker 1: that he threw in that game were bad. Like, that
- 1:41Speaker 1: was a game that the weather was such that everybody
- 1:43Speaker 1: has an excuse for whatever they want the excuse to be. Because, duh,
- 1:48Speaker 1: you're trying to throw a football in the rain. You're
- 1:50Speaker 1: playing on the road. It's a one o'clock kick. All
- 1:53Speaker 1: of those things. But three-time Pro Bowl quarterback Matthew Stafford
- 1:56Speaker 1: is always going to give you a chance to take one.
- 1:59Speaker 1: He gave them at least two. At least. Right? The
- 2:04Speaker 1: other thing about that game, though, and this is where, Ryan,
- 2:07Speaker 1: I think you'd agree, the Eagles are, I think, a
- 2:08Speaker 1: far more interesting situation coming out of that game. Like Rams,
- 2:12Speaker 1: you got to win. Aaron Donald couldn't play because, you
- 2:15Speaker 1: know what, we just kind of, I don't know if
- 2:17Speaker 1: forgot is the right word, but I guess ignored would
- 2:19Speaker 1: probably be fine. Aaron Donald, oh, dog. I think I
- 2:24Speaker 1: told you the other day I was watching a game
- 2:26Speaker 1: and they referred to Jadeveon Cloudy as the old veteran.
- 2:31Speaker 1: You know, that's same draft class that we're talking about there, right?
- 2:35Speaker 1: Like that's an old guy who hadn't played in a
- 2:38Speaker 1: couple years. Ryan didn't even put him on a plane.
- 2:40Speaker 2: No, didn't even take him to Philly.
- 2:43Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, no. So he's old. Miles Garrett
- 2:46Speaker 1: is not playing. This is just not what anybody thought
- 2:48Speaker 1: it was going to be coming into this season. Puka
- 2:51Speaker 1: back from being hurt, and you know he's going to
- 2:53Speaker 1: get hurt again because he just liked that. You know
- 2:55Speaker 1: what I'm saying? I honestly don't know how he doesn't
- 2:57Speaker 1: have to wear a helmet just walking around on the street.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Just one red or something that y'all scratched up on
- 3:02Speaker 1: the top of it. You know what I mean? Just
- 3:05Speaker 1: on the streets. Just in case he gets the urge
- 3:07Speaker 1: to do some dumb shit. I just don't know why
- 3:09Speaker 1: they don't do that just to play it safe.
- 3:11Speaker 2: You don't think they put him in that helmet when
- 3:14Speaker 2: he goes on those podcasts and says those things that
- 3:17Speaker 2: he likes to say?
- 3:18Speaker 1: Yeah, hey, I'll tell you this, though. He would have
- 3:20Speaker 1: got some help. He would have looked into some things,
- 3:23Speaker 1: so perhaps that will change his outlook.
- 3:26Speaker 2: I hope so.
- 3:27Speaker 1: The Rams really hope so. Right. But the Eagles. Number one,
- 3:33Speaker 1: Ryan and I have talked about this. As far as
- 3:36Speaker 1: I can tell, and we live in a city with
- 3:38Speaker 1: a metro area of what, 20, 25 million people?
- 3:41Speaker 2: Somewhere around there.
- 3:42Speaker 1: There is no more robust economy of Former players, fans,
- 3:49Speaker 1: whatever it is, talking about a team like there is
- 3:53Speaker 1: around the Eagles. Like, they feel like, what if Alabama
- 4:00Speaker 1: was in, like, Philadelphia? Right? Like, it's not quite as...
- 4:05Speaker 1: Their standards aren't as high. Obviously, the Eagles are still
- 4:08Speaker 1: a little bit happier just to be there. But, you know,
- 4:12Speaker 1: as I've learned, like, the internet is a place that
- 4:13Speaker 1: people go to be unhappy. And... I don't feel like
- 4:17Speaker 1: you stay in Philadelphia because you don't like being mad.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Right.
- 4:21Speaker 1: I just feel like this is just what they do.
- 4:23Speaker 2: That is about their cruising altitude all the time.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Yeah, just kind of a steady level of... They seem like...
- 4:29Speaker 1: What's the thing about people? They say about people in
- 4:31Speaker 1: the North that they are not nice, but they are kind.
- 4:33Speaker 1: People in the South are nice, but they are not kind. Like,
- 4:36Speaker 1: they seem to be very kind-hearted people, and if you
- 4:38Speaker 1: needed some help or whatever, they'd come do something for you.
- 4:41Speaker 1: I personally learned a lot about Philly and have nice
- 4:44Speaker 1: things to say about it because in the opening scene
- 4:46Speaker 1: of Rocky, Rocky listened to Summer Madness by cooling the gang. Like,
- 4:49Speaker 1: I'm just saying, I think those people are probably cooler
- 4:51Speaker 1: than they get credit for. But did I send you
- 4:53Speaker 1: that clip of the news broadcast with the fans?
- 4:56Speaker 4: No.
- 4:56Speaker 5: Oh, man.
- 4:57Speaker 1: It was one of them Philly stations. And the news
- 5:00Speaker 1: went to talk after the game, right? And it may
- 5:02Speaker 1: have been the station that the game was on, right?
- 5:04Speaker 1: So they're immediately rolling the Eagles content.
- 5:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Okay. That woman was on the mic you would have
- 5:12Speaker 1: thought that the federal building had got blowed up. Like,
- 5:15Speaker 1: there was just a level of sadness in her tone,
- 5:18Speaker 1: and then she gets to talking to the people, and
- 5:20Speaker 1: they just can't wait to get on TV and just
- 5:22Speaker 1: talk about how mad and sad they are about what
- 5:25Speaker 1: it is that the Eagles did or did not do
- 5:27Speaker 1: in the course of that game, right? And look, it
- 5:30Speaker 1: comes back to Hurts, and I feel bad for Hurts
- 5:33Speaker 1: in this sense. Hurts is the appropriate term because apparently
- 5:37Speaker 1: playing for the Eagles really hurts because everybody's hurt. Except
- 5:41Speaker 1: for Lane Johnson. He just, some came up. Yeah. He
- 5:45Speaker 1: couldn't play.
- 5:45Speaker 3: Right? Right.
- 5:47Speaker 1: But everybody's hurt. Saquon Barkley, you get out there, another guy,
- 5:50Speaker 1: sneaky old Saquon Barkley. He gets out there, he pulls
- 5:54Speaker 1: his hamstring. So he's out of there. Devontae Smith, he
- 5:58Speaker 1: gets hurt. They were throwing passes to gentlemen with whom
- 6:01Speaker 1: I am not really that familiar. I know who Zach
- 6:04Speaker 1: Ertz is, and that's part of the problem. Because he's
- 6:07Speaker 1: been playing for 40 years.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Yeah, a Cooper, a Lemon, and a Wicks.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Yes, yes. Now, that being said, people who are filmy
- 6:15Speaker 1: will tell you that Those guys might have been running
- 6:18Speaker 1: around wide open and not receiving passes from Jalen Hurts.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Bottom line is, it's been over 90 minutes of game
- 6:28Speaker 1: play since the Eagles converted a third down.
- 6:34Speaker 2: They had a, they were, it was third down, third
- 6:37Speaker 2: and goal. They were up 10 in the third quarter
- 6:41Speaker 2: and they lost.
- 6:43Speaker 1: How does this happen? Did you see that dude down
- 6:46Speaker 1: on the show with Acho and them losing his ever-loving
- 6:48Speaker 1: mind talking about the Eagles?
- 6:50Speaker 3: No.
- 6:50Speaker 1: But the point that he made was their average starting
- 6:55Speaker 1: position on their scoring drives was the plus 26. Right?
- 7:00Speaker 1: I remember looking up at a point in the game,
- 7:03Speaker 1: and it was two turnovers and no points off of
- 7:06Speaker 1: the turnovers, I think was what it said. Right. You
- 7:10Speaker 1: got to get a third down. I don't care how
- 7:17Speaker 1: bad everything is around you. Your quarterback should be capable.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Your quarterback who can run, by the way, should be
- 7:26Speaker 1: capable of getting you one. One would think. That's not,
- 7:33Speaker 1: I'm not, I don't feel comfortable blaming Hertz for what
- 7:35Speaker 1: didn't happen because there was so much that was going on. Right.
- 7:38Speaker 1: But I will say that there was great room for
- 7:42Speaker 1: him to play better. He didn't have to play a
- 7:44Speaker 1: lot better. a little better would have done it. And
- 7:48Speaker 1: if he had played a little better, it still would
- 7:50Speaker 1: have been bad. But he could have played a little
- 7:53Speaker 1: better and they could have won the game, right? And
- 7:56Speaker 1: he didn't. And part of that is because there's a
- 7:59Speaker 1: limitation to how good he is. Now, if every, again,
- 8:02Speaker 1: every team that I've watched him be successful with had
- 8:05Speaker 1: one thing in common. Everybody else was better than him
- 8:09Speaker 1: or at the very least as good, right? Like I
- 8:13Speaker 1: watched him play with them Alabama teams. I watched him
- 8:16Speaker 1: play with Oklahoma. Those squads were loaded. Not everybody can
- 8:22Speaker 1: do this. If you give him a loaded team, he
- 8:24Speaker 1: can help you get to loaded results. But we also
- 8:27Speaker 1: saw 2017 where you gave him a loaded team where
- 8:30Speaker 1: Devontae Smith is the number three receiver and Jalen Waddell
- 8:32Speaker 1: is the number four and had to bench him at halftime.
- 8:37Speaker 1: In this game, Your quarterback that makes money like he's
- 8:41Speaker 1: the quarterback should at the very least get you a
- 8:44Speaker 1: third down. That's all we're asking for here is a
- 8:47Speaker 1: third down conversion. And he can't do that, right? Now, again,
- 8:54Speaker 1: their line is not what it was, dot, dot, dot,
- 8:56Speaker 1: everything else. But they have a quarterback. Here's what you
- 9:02Speaker 1: can't do with him. Overcome. Right. You could perhaps execute.
- 9:07Speaker 1: But you cannot overcome.
- 9:09Speaker 2: And it's obvious you can't overcome.
- 9:10Speaker 1: For better or worse.
- 9:12Speaker 4: Right?
- 9:12Speaker 1: For better or worse, he cannot overcome. And this is
- 9:17Speaker 1: a team that right now looks like they need a
- 9:19Speaker 1: quarterback that can occasionally help you overcome. And they don't
- 9:25Speaker 1: have that. Now, to be fair to them, I say
- 9:28Speaker 1: that I don't think anybody came out of that game
- 9:29Speaker 1: feeling good. Ryan, I ask you this question sincerely. Let's
- 9:32Speaker 1: just stick with the NFC for now. Who feels good?
- 9:40Speaker 2: The 49ers.
- 9:41Speaker 1: I do think they feel good, though. They were not great.
- 9:44Speaker 2: No.
- 9:45Speaker 1: That's the first time they played a real live NFL team. Yes.
- 9:48Speaker 1: And I didn't... Well, no. They played the Rams, but
- 9:51Speaker 1: the Rams.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Yeah, and not in America.
- 9:53Speaker 1: The Rams made horrible decisions along the way.
- 9:55Speaker 5: Yes.
- 9:56Speaker 1: I guess the Seahawks don't feel bad.
- 9:59Speaker 2: The Bears feel good.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Yes. But, yeah, they're 3-1, and they don't have their quarterback.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Well, yeah, three wins with three different starting QBs.
- 10:08Speaker 1: That is correct. They feel good, and, I mean, I
- 10:11Speaker 1: know the Giants feel good. But they have to.
- 10:17Speaker 2: I mean, similar on that... That team, I texted you,
- 10:22Speaker 2: we're never going to have a good football team in
- 10:24Speaker 2: the city.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Dude, the Giants is like, it's like if you looked
- 10:30Speaker 1: in your bank account and there was money there that
- 10:34Speaker 1: you knew wasn't supposed to be there. You know what
- 10:38Speaker 1: I mean? Like, you can spend it if you want.
- 10:41Speaker 1: But you might go to jail for that.
- 10:43Speaker 5: Right?
- 10:43Speaker 1: Like, hey, you know that's not your money. Right. Who
- 10:45Speaker 1: knows that? Also, I don't know if you saw this.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Did you know Camp Scataboo is doing commercials for the
- 10:51Speaker 1: Farmer's Dog?
- 10:52Speaker 2: I did not know that.
- 10:53Speaker 1: And so if you don't know what the Farmer's Dog is,
- 10:55Speaker 1: the Farmer's Dog is a dog food company. And it's
- 11:00Speaker 1: like high-end dog food. Yes. You know, like it's craft
- 11:05Speaker 1: dog food. Is that what we're looking for?
- 11:07Speaker 2: Organic dog food.
- 11:08Speaker 6: Yes, yes, yes.
- 11:08Speaker 1: This is where we are. And it's Scataboo with that
- 11:11Speaker 1: ridiculous haircut and it's showing him feeding the dogs and
- 11:14Speaker 1: he's down and he's, you know, playing with the dogs
- 11:17Speaker 1: and mushing their hair and their fur and all of
- 11:19Speaker 1: that stuff. And I watched that and I was like,
- 11:21Speaker 1: oh my gosh, he's not getting any sleep in North Jersey.
- 11:25Speaker 1: That dude is in North Jersey. Putting in work.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Having a great time.
- 11:30Speaker 1: He's at the dog park. Just watch what happens. Watch
- 11:35Speaker 1: what happens. Not even playing fair. No chance. Shout out
- 11:41Speaker 1: to you, Dallas Cowboys. Because it was about to be
- 11:44Speaker 1: real ugly. They lost that game. Right.
- 11:47Speaker 3: I mean.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Talk about QBs who teams that don't feel good. The
- 11:51Speaker 2: Houston Texans, 0-4.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll get to that.
- 11:53Speaker 2: We'll get to that, yeah.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Well, I'll tell you who really doesn't feel good. I'll
- 11:56Speaker 1: tell you this. I don't know who watched Sunday Night Football,
- 12:01Speaker 1: but it was layup lines for America's team, the Detroit Lions. Like,
- 12:06Speaker 1: after the game, they were talking to Campbell about whether
- 12:08Speaker 1: or not he would consider making a move off Kelvin Shepard,
- 12:10Speaker 1: the defensive coordinator. What? What's that going to change? Their
- 12:14Speaker 1: problem is their defensive backfield is me, Ryan, and a
- 12:19Speaker 1: couple of y'all. They are down four safeties. They are
- 12:24Speaker 1: on their number five and six safeties. They're on the
- 12:28Speaker 1: last line of defense of their last line of defense.
- 12:32Speaker 1: And the corners aren't good.
- 12:34Speaker 4: Right?
- 12:34Speaker 1: So let's start there. And Collinsworth was talking about this.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Like they want to play man to man. They know
- 12:39Speaker 1: they can't play man to man. They went to zone.
- 12:41Speaker 1: The dudes can't play zone. So they're just like, fuck it.
- 12:43Speaker 1: We might as well play man to man. That's what
- 12:45Speaker 1: we're trying to do. Except the problem is they can't
- 12:48Speaker 1: play man to man. This is, woo.
- 12:53Speaker 6: This.
- 12:57Speaker 1: I chose this life. You opted in. I opted in
- 13:02Speaker 1: with no, like, obvious reason why one would opt in.
- 13:06Speaker 1: But I did opt in. And that was tough, man.
- 13:11Speaker 1: That was demoralizing. I think that's the worst part about it.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Bryce Young, a.k.a. the little homie, somebody sent me a
- 13:16Speaker 1: text and was like, yo, so is Bryce Young good?
- 13:18Speaker 1: I don't know. He's got to play it against a
- 13:21Speaker 1: high school secondary out there. I mean, the little homie,
- 13:24Speaker 1: I say, we will say this from infamously when I
- 13:27Speaker 1: said His first or second year, the little homie's doing
- 13:30Speaker 1: the best he can. The little homie's doing the best
- 13:33Speaker 1: he can, and the best he can is better than
- 13:34Speaker 1: we thought it would be. We're going to have to
- 13:36Speaker 1: kind of adjust the way we look at it when
- 13:37Speaker 1: these guys have awful rookie years.
- 13:41Speaker 2: I mean, he got benched for Andy Dalton.
- 13:42Speaker 1: In year two. In year two. And this is him
- 13:46Speaker 1: being the quarterback that the owner drafted, basically. Right. He's
- 13:52Speaker 1: turned it around, right? Good for him. They're showing him
- 13:54Speaker 1: in the pocket. He's doing them tricks that the little
- 13:57Speaker 1: homies be doing, standing on his toes and all this
- 14:00Speaker 1: stuff to try to figure it out. He's manufactured this,
- 14:03Speaker 1: but they didn't enjoy watching that game at all. That's
- 14:09Speaker 1: what I got. I didn't like how it felt. Oh, shit.
- 14:14Speaker 1: I just didn't. Packers don't feel good either, even though
- 14:18Speaker 1: they won that game. No. I mean, they barely beat
- 14:20Speaker 1: a team with a quarterback Hey, okay, so this is,
- 14:26Speaker 1: I know I've seen people in the comments that when
- 14:27Speaker 1: I say the team must not be good because I
- 14:30Speaker 1: ain't never heard of any of the players. Guys, I
- 14:31Speaker 1: do do this for a fucking living, okay? If it's
- 14:34Speaker 1: at the point where your name has never come up anywhere,
- 14:37Speaker 1: it's okay for me to say, I got a feeling
- 14:39Speaker 1: those guys aren't really that good. No. Right? It's never
- 14:42Speaker 1: come up at all. None of you, right? I mean,
- 14:45Speaker 1: is there a certain arrogance to that? No, because this
- 14:48Speaker 1: is like, I don't know what you think about me
- 14:50Speaker 1: as a practitioner of my craft. I promise you, I
- 14:53Speaker 1: try to keep up. Right. But when we got black
- 14:55Speaker 1: quarterbacks starting in the NFL that I've never heard of, shit.
- 14:59Speaker 1: I don't know who, am I not doing my professional duty?
- 15:03Speaker 1: Am I not doing my personal duty? I don't know
- 15:04Speaker 1: what it is, but they got a brother named Jalen, Jalen,
- 15:08Speaker 1: not to be convinced who Jalen, Jalen Daniels. He went
- 15:11Speaker 1: to Kansas. He played for Tampa Bay and the Packers
- 15:15Speaker 1: beat them by three. And, uh, Packers had an opportunity
- 15:22Speaker 1: to move off the coach last year. They didn't, and
- 15:24Speaker 1: they chose to re-up, and I think they're going to
- 15:27Speaker 1: regret that. Now, part of this, I don't know how
- 15:29Speaker 1: much of it is coaching when you literally can't block. Right.
- 15:32Speaker 5: Right.
- 15:33Speaker 1: For that, I do not have an answer. I'm going
- 15:35Speaker 1: to say one last thing about a team that doesn't
- 15:37Speaker 1: feel good, that I don't think feels good, and that
- 15:40Speaker 1: is the 4-0 Minnesota Vikings.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Oh, I was going to say that was a team
- 15:45Speaker 2: that should feel good. I was going to transition off
- 15:47Speaker 2: them with the Giants in terms of fraud.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Well, well, well, okay. The Vikings played the Dolphins, and
- 15:58Speaker 1: I would argue the game was closer than what we'd
- 15:59Speaker 1: prefer for it to be if you are the undefeated team.
- 16:02Speaker 2: Did not score a touchdown.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Did not score a touchdown.
- 16:04Speaker 4: Now.
- 16:09Speaker 1: This Kyler Murray guy appears to be making a fool
- 16:13Speaker 1: of you, boy. I don't really appreciate that. These other
- 16:17Speaker 1: people didn't stand with you, but I did. in spite
- 16:21Speaker 1: of that weird shit that happened that time I met him.
- 16:23Speaker 1: I stood, right? I was like, no, man, this guy
- 16:26Speaker 1: got it. I don't really understand why they so down
- 16:29Speaker 1: on him down there, the way they acted about it.
- 16:30Speaker 1: If Sam Darnold can get good, I don't see why
- 16:33Speaker 1: Kyler Murray can't get good. And I still don't see
- 16:35Speaker 1: why Kyler Murray can't get good. I would like him
- 16:38Speaker 1: to do it, though, because I got news for you, Jack.
- 16:41Speaker 1: If he doesn't, we put out some social content that's
- 16:44Speaker 1: going to bite me in the keister repeatedly. Repeatedly. I
- 16:49Speaker 1: learned last week. It's a lot of people waiting for
- 16:52Speaker 1: moments like these. And Kyler Murray appears to be playing
- 16:55Speaker 1: for an 18. There's two of them in a row.
- 16:58Speaker 1: First one, like, hey, man, you ain't played in a while.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Then right there, it happened again. Son, I need you
- 17:03Speaker 1: to understand this. They have already parked you for Jacoby Brissett,
- 17:08Speaker 1: which means they will definitely park you for Carson Wentz. Please, please, please.
- 17:14Speaker 1: They've already seen a little proof of concept.
- 17:16Speaker 2: I have a Kellen O'Connell thought.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Fire away.
- 17:19Speaker 2: You know how they always refer to these guys as
- 17:21Speaker 2: the quarterback whisperer?
- 17:22Speaker 1: Yes.
- 17:22Speaker 2: Maybe he needs to speak up.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's the one thing about the quarterback whisperer. Like, yeah,
- 17:27Speaker 1: some people need to, like, talk to him. Now, for
- 17:30Speaker 1: what it's worth, it was clear that they were not
- 17:32Speaker 1: whispering at J.J. McCarthy anymore.
- 17:33Speaker 2: No.
- 17:34Speaker 1: They were speaking with their chests when they... Gave him
- 17:38Speaker 1: the boot. Oh, my God. Before they gave him the boot.
- 17:41Speaker 1: All of it. They were just like, we are sick
- 17:42Speaker 1: of this. Like, what is this? But, yeah, I need.
- 17:47Speaker 1: For the Vikings to really have a chance to win
- 17:49Speaker 1: the Super Bowl. Because here's what the Vikings are going
- 17:52Speaker 1: to be susceptible to is, they're going to give up
- 17:53Speaker 1: some big plays every now and then because they're blitzing 80%
- 17:56Speaker 1: of the time or 70% of the time, whatever it is.
- 17:58Speaker 2: Which is not what you do when you're actually good.
- 18:00Speaker 1: Yes, except they kind of are, right? Every now and then,
- 18:06Speaker 1: something big is going to happen. They're going to give
- 18:09Speaker 1: up a 53-yard run in this game, for example. And
- 18:13Speaker 1: every now and then, the 85 Bears had a game
- 18:15Speaker 1: where they need to score some points. Right. Right. They're
- 18:17Speaker 1: going to need to score some points and nine yards
- 18:23Speaker 1: of completion. That's not. No. That's, that's, that's, that's, that's
- 18:30Speaker 1: not going to do. Okay. I feel like, I don't
- 18:39Speaker 1: know why I waited so long into the show to
- 18:43Speaker 1: get here, but Sunday was another Nick Wright special.
- 18:47Speaker 4: Yes.
- 18:47Speaker 1: Right? His birthday was over the weekend, and he got
- 18:51Speaker 1: another bad Justin Herbert game, which, again, is another situation of,
- 18:54Speaker 1: but they can't block.
- 18:55Speaker 4: Right. Right?
- 18:56Speaker 1: And I am not the excuse Justin Herbert for everything,
- 18:59Speaker 1: but I think it was fair to mention with Hurts
- 19:01Speaker 1: who wasn't playing. Everybody got hurt this week, it felt like.
- 19:06Speaker 1: But they're not doing a lot of blocking. For him.
- 19:10Speaker 3: Okay.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Let's throw it out there. But he still stunk. And, oh, boy,
- 19:15Speaker 1: Josh Allen. Time machine. Yes. This is the– this is
- 19:24Speaker 1: throwing it up to the square body in the playoffs.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Josh Allen.
- 19:28Speaker 2: You'll never move on from that.
- 19:30Speaker 5: No.
- 19:31Speaker 2: No.
- 19:31Speaker 1: And apparently neither will he. He threw two of the
- 19:35Speaker 1: craziest passes I've ever seen in this game. One of them.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Did you see where they had him near the goal
- 19:41Speaker 1: line and he just backhand flipped that shit? Yeah. How
- 19:44Speaker 1: was that not intentional grounding? It had to be intentional
- 19:47Speaker 1: grounding or fumble the only argument on how it wasn't
- 19:51Speaker 1: intentional grounding is if it was a fumble otherwise what
- 19:56Speaker 1: are we that's the conspiracy theory right there it's all
- 20:01Speaker 1: fakes josh allen it's if It's not his fault. It's
- 20:06Speaker 1: not his fault. But y'all know what y'all doing. And
- 20:09Speaker 1: when I say y'all, I mean it in italics. Y'all
- 20:13Speaker 1: know what y'all doing. They still call him an MVP.
- 20:15Speaker 1: We still talking that. Remember how ready everybody was to
- 20:17Speaker 1: make him the best quarterback in the league and everything else?
- 20:19Speaker 1: Are they still saying that now? I'm asking that sincerely
- 20:22Speaker 1: because it feels like a fluid situation.
- 20:24Speaker 2: I bet he is the betting favorite.
- 20:29Speaker 3: Ah, ah.
- 20:30Speaker 1: I know who I got as the betting favorite, and
- 20:32Speaker 1: we'll talk about him in a minute.
- 20:33Speaker 6: But, um.
- 20:34Speaker 1: The Patriots, the Patriots, I don't know if save their
- 20:37Speaker 1: season is the right way to put it, but I
- 20:39Speaker 1: think save their season is the right way to put it.
- 20:41Speaker 1: They got a good half out of Drake May. Right.
- 20:43Speaker 1: And that interception Josh Allen threw at the end. Okay.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Where he just heaved it. Just one minute left. They
- 20:52Speaker 1: got all their timeouts. He just threw it up there.
- 20:56Speaker 1: Did he forget what color his team was wearing? Right.
- 21:00Speaker 1: There's two white shirts over there. Absolutely no need. Full
- 21:04Speaker 1: on ridiculous. Why are you doing this? And look, they've
- 21:08Speaker 1: cast their lot on the idea that we're just going
- 21:11Speaker 1: to live with Josh Allen and whatever he does. But
- 21:14Speaker 1: that's not I don't think that's what they're talking about.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Like the idea isn't, and every now and then be
- 21:19Speaker 1: a moron. The idea is every now and then take
- 21:22Speaker 1: some chances because you can do superhuman things. That was
- 21:25Speaker 1: not an example of like, I just have so much
- 21:27Speaker 1: faith in my arm. That was a freak out. And
- 21:30Speaker 1: what he does do, and this is something I don't
- 21:32Speaker 1: believe that people can change if they got it in them.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Every now and then he's going to freak out. Every
- 21:37Speaker 1: now and then he's going to throw it up there
- 21:39Speaker 1: to the square body. That's why the square body comes up.
- 21:42Speaker 1: It was some of our first evidence that he's that guy.
- 21:45Speaker 2: That was about, what, five, six years ago?
- 21:47Speaker 1: It was 2019. So six and a half.
- 21:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:53Speaker 1: Okay. But he's that guy. What guy? That guy. You
- 22:00Speaker 1: saw it, right? This is going to be the fun
- 22:02Speaker 1: part of the year because they fully decided that that's
- 22:06Speaker 1: what they're going to do. But he's going to do that, right?
- 22:09Speaker 1: That was, whew. I also saw something, too, where the
- 22:12Speaker 1: Bills were like, the defense has got to get used
- 22:14Speaker 1: to the fact that the stadium's so loud. Don't say
- 22:15Speaker 1: that out loud, big dog.
- 22:16Speaker 6: Don't, don't, don't.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Don't do that. Don't do that. Keep that to yourself.
- 22:20Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a don't telling yourself.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 22:24Speaker 6: Shh.
- 22:26Speaker 1: But no, the Patriots, yeah, I think it's fair to say,
- 22:28Speaker 1: Patriots saved their season. Yes. Did you watch much of
- 22:31Speaker 1: Chiefs Raiders?
- 22:32Speaker 2: Yes, I had that on.
- 22:35Speaker 1: I watched the vast majority of it. I popped in
- 22:37Speaker 1: every now and then to San Francisco. Damn, there goes
- 22:39Speaker 1: San Francisco. Didn't get around to talking about them again.
- 22:42Speaker 1: But we can now and say Denver, not feeling good.
- 22:45Speaker 4: Right.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Okay. Yeah. Not feeling good because they did a good
- 22:51Speaker 1: enough job defensively that, If your quarterback is what people
- 22:55Speaker 1: keep telling me their quarterback is, they should have had
- 22:57Speaker 1: a chance to win that game, and I don't really
- 22:59Speaker 1: ever feel like they truly had a chance to win
- 23:01Speaker 1: that game. Also, hot take that I just thought about
- 23:04Speaker 1: as I saw it in that game with that big
- 23:06Speaker 1: play Kittle made at the end, and I've said this
- 23:08Speaker 1: for years, just throwing it out there. If you gave
- 23:13Speaker 1: me the choice of Kelsey and Kittle, I have always
- 23:17Speaker 1: been on give me Kittle every single time.
- 23:18Speaker 2: Really?
- 23:19Speaker 1: I don't think it's. Kelsey is a bit closer to
- 23:24Speaker 1: the Jason Witten end of things. And I feel like
- 23:27Speaker 1: Kittle is a little closer to Antonio Gates. Big play guy.
- 23:31Speaker 1: Better blocker. Kelsey is very good. Yes. I'm not calling
- 23:35Speaker 1: him Jason Witten. He's much better than Jason Witten.
- 23:38Speaker 4: But.
- 23:39Speaker 1: Kittle's a beast.
- 23:40Speaker 2: Kittle is a beast.
- 23:40Speaker 1: Kittle's been a beast. The big thing I'm saying here
- 23:43Speaker 1: is not Travis Kelsey is overrated.
- 23:45Speaker 2: Right.
- 23:46Speaker 1: And I've learned people take that word very seriously.
- 23:48Speaker 2: Very seriously. Yeah, yeah.
- 23:49Speaker 1: It's a slur. I had no idea. Overrated is a
- 23:52Speaker 1: slur to people. But Kittle is underrated. Yeah. That I
- 23:56Speaker 1: have always felt. But anyway... Back to that other team,
- 24:00Speaker 1: the Buffalo Bills. Are we going to play the roller coaster?
- 24:03Speaker 1: Then let's do it. My man Keyon is back out
- 24:05Speaker 1: there getting it done. Sounds like the problem with Sean
- 24:08Speaker 1: McDermott when it came to him. Right? That sounds like
- 24:13Speaker 1: the issue. But that's going to be a wild ride
- 24:16Speaker 1: with Buffalo if this is how it's going to go
- 24:18Speaker 1: all year long. Hey, I'm looking forward to watching. But
- 24:21Speaker 1: we have gotten back. That's right. Chiefs Raiders. Yes. Sorry
- 24:23Speaker 1: about that. I don't know how I would say I
- 24:29Speaker 1: felt about the Raiders coming out of that game. I
- 24:32Speaker 1: will say this. They felt to me, and a lot
- 24:36Speaker 1: of this is just vibes, and of course a lot
- 24:38Speaker 1: of this is you come into the game with your priors.
- 24:40Speaker 1: You know what it feels like when you're watching a
- 24:42Speaker 1: game and you don't think a team is good, and
- 24:44Speaker 1: they always have to overcome the fact that you don't
- 24:46Speaker 1: think they're good, even though they're getting it done, like
- 24:49Speaker 1: they were playing well. You know, right there with the
- 24:51Speaker 1: Chiefs for the vast majority of the game. But then
- 24:54Speaker 1: next thing you know, Patrick Mahomes just throws something up
- 24:56Speaker 1: soft and high. And you're like, oh, somebody's going to
- 24:58Speaker 1: catch that. Yes.
- 24:58Speaker 4: Right?
- 24:59Speaker 1: It never felt like the Raiders were going to win.
- 25:01Speaker 1: But it felt like they were losing in that way
- 25:03Speaker 1: that they are a team that has gotten better and
- 25:05Speaker 1: just wasn't quite ready for a game that had the
- 25:07Speaker 1: stakes that that game had. For sure. They're not frauds,
- 25:11Speaker 1: I guess is the way that I would put it.
- 25:12Speaker 1: Their defense looked like fraud. It was pretty good. And
- 25:15Speaker 1: the Chiefs weren't getting any pressure. I asked Mina. I
- 25:17Speaker 1: was like, so what's the issue here? She's like, no,
- 25:19Speaker 1: the Raiders offensive line is good. Yeah. You know, so.
- 25:22Speaker 1: Good for them. On the other side, our guy Mahomes
- 25:25Speaker 1: is back, dawg. Now, obviously there are issues on guys
- 25:29Speaker 1: to throw to, and we had a dislocated ankle situation,
- 25:32Speaker 1: and that guy having a career game. Okay, so you
- 25:34Speaker 1: guys know me. I don't do catastrophic injuries. I don't
- 25:37Speaker 1: watch them. If there's any way that I can avoid
- 25:39Speaker 1: looking at a catastrophic injury, I'm going to absolutely pull
- 25:42Speaker 1: that off, right? I saw what happened to Thornton in
- 25:46Speaker 1: that game. It was wild because he caught it and
- 25:49Speaker 1: he got up to do his whole first down thing
- 25:51Speaker 1: and then he looked down and was like, oh shit,
- 25:52Speaker 1: my ankle is hanging off. What a weird injury. Because
- 25:57Speaker 1: the last of those catastrophic injuries that I saw like
- 25:59Speaker 1: that was Dak Prescott with a dislocated ankle where he
- 26:03Speaker 1: made the play and then he's on the ground and
- 26:04Speaker 1: he's just like... Like, nobody can tell what the issue is. Yeah. Right?
- 26:09Speaker 1: And the same thing happened with Thornton. And the dude's like, yo, yo,
- 26:11Speaker 1: what's going on? He's like, bro, look at my ankle.
- 26:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:14Speaker 4: Oh, whoa.
- 26:15Speaker 1: And I have to say, man, I know you was hurt,
- 26:16Speaker 1: but don't be telling nobody to look at nothing like that. Like,
- 26:19Speaker 1: I'd have waited.
- 26:20Speaker 2: Even for the people who it's their job?
- 26:22Speaker 1: After he did that, man, I'd have waited a couple
- 26:24Speaker 1: of days. And I'd have been like, hey, man. You
- 26:26Speaker 1: ain't need to tell me to look at it. All
- 26:27Speaker 1: you had to do was tell me that it hurt. Like,
- 26:29Speaker 1: your word was good enough.
- 26:32Speaker 2: We trust you.
- 26:32Speaker 1: I didn't need no verification. Why I got to look
- 26:34Speaker 1: at this? Now they all out there, you know, it's
- 26:36Speaker 1: prayer circle time, right? They locked up. They about to
- 26:39Speaker 1: get it done. But now the Chiefs are down another guy.
- 26:44Speaker 2: Again. You know who they're about to go get.
- 26:46Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 26:46Speaker 1: But he's not going to be ready. They're talking about
- 26:48Speaker 1: going to get Tyreek, but Tyreek's probably not going to
- 26:50Speaker 1: be ready for a month.
- 26:51Speaker 2: At least.
- 26:52Speaker 1: And what's he got left?
- 26:55Speaker 3: I mean.
- 26:57Speaker 1: But Mahomes looks like that guy again.
- 26:58Speaker 2: Yes.
- 26:59Speaker 1: I do know that. Mahomes is that guy again. We
- 27:02Speaker 1: talked about this a little bit, but the return of
- 27:04Speaker 1: the enemy. Yes, it matters. That's a big deal. That man,
- 27:12Speaker 1: talk about going through a lot, by the way. I
- 27:14Speaker 1: feel like we have just completely forgotten what his situation is.
- 27:18Speaker 2: Just haven't mentioned it.
- 27:19Speaker 4: I don't.
- 27:21Speaker 1: Look, I ain't the one to tell that man what
- 27:23Speaker 1: he should or should not be doing or anything as such.
- 27:25Speaker 1: But at the same time.
- 27:26Speaker 2: He's out there.
- 27:27Speaker 1: He's out there. We all cope as we cope. It's funny, though.
- 27:32Speaker 1: They ain't giving him the Deshaun Watson treatment. No. Like, oh,
- 27:35Speaker 1: after everything he's been through. And by the way, he's
- 27:37Speaker 1: been through a lot. It's just an uncomfortable topic. But
- 27:42Speaker 1: if you're giving people credit for overcoming adversity, I don't
- 27:48Speaker 1: know who's overcoming more of it than he is right now.
- 27:52Speaker 1: I just don't. Anyway, the Chiefs are really good.
- 27:56Speaker 2: They're really good. Kenneth Walker's really good. Well, that's the
- 27:59Speaker 2: big one, man.
- 28:01Speaker 1: I am all here for the reinvestment in the bell
- 28:04Speaker 1: cow running back. The dude you give the ball to
- 28:08Speaker 1: who runs through people, who runs around people. There's still,
- 28:11Speaker 1: to me, nothing more entertaining to watch in a football
- 28:15Speaker 1: game because the running back that does that is actually,
- 28:17Speaker 1: to me, embodying and doing all the things that are
- 28:21Speaker 1: why we're here in the first place. You know, like
- 28:24Speaker 1: this precision passion game and basically the idea that the
- 28:28Speaker 1: star is the coach. Fuck that. The stars are dudes
- 28:32Speaker 1: out there. In the running game, that is Jimmy's and Joe's.
- 28:35Speaker 4: Yes.
- 28:35Speaker 1: You know, you can talk scheme. You can talk everything else.
- 28:38Speaker 1: That is a Jimmy's and Joe's situation. Put them out front. Oh, yeah.
- 28:43Speaker 1: I forgot about that. Not feeling good about it. Jacksonville Jaguars.
- 28:47Speaker 1: I think those guys feel good.
- 28:48Speaker 2: Feel good.
- 28:49Speaker 1: Got an important win there over the Cincinnati Bengals. The
- 28:52Speaker 1: shockingly best division in the league is the AFC North,
- 28:55Speaker 1: where every team is over 500. Where the Browns are 3-1. However,
- 29:00Speaker 1: 3-1 with a minus 14 point differential. You don't see
- 29:04Speaker 1: that every day.
- 29:05Speaker 5: No.
- 29:06Speaker 1: But Lamar Jackson's hurt. And it's a shame because he
- 29:09Speaker 1: was Dealing. He is. This old situation with Declan Doyle,
- 29:15Speaker 1: the one who daddy I don't like. Apparently he and
- 29:18Speaker 1: Lamar got something figured out because Lamar's out there dealing.
- 29:21Speaker 1: And by the way, that boy Snoop Huntley came in
- 29:24Speaker 1: there and he was dealing a little bit himself. But dealing. Dealing.
- 29:29Speaker 1: And Ryan, this actually points out something you were mentioning.
- 29:31Speaker 1: And Doyle is not off that Shanahan-McVeigh tree. He's a
- 29:36Speaker 1: Ben Johnson guy.
- 29:38Speaker 2: Yes.
- 29:38Speaker 4: And I don't.
- 29:39Speaker 1: Schematically. I don't really know where Campbell and Johnson stuff
- 29:42Speaker 1: stems from like off the top of my head, but
- 29:44Speaker 1: I don't, I don't think they're from that tree. You
- 29:47Speaker 1: made a very, you raised an interesting question about the
- 29:49Speaker 1: Eagles off Mike that I think is something that's going
- 29:51Speaker 1: to be interesting to keep track of with all these teams,
- 29:54Speaker 1: which was why is it that the Eagles always have
- 29:58Speaker 1: like a teenager in As their offensive coordinator.
- 30:01Speaker 2: A teenager and someone, it's the first time they're doing it.
- 30:03Speaker 1: Yes. And the answer is, everybody is trying to move
- 30:07Speaker 1: into what the future has become in these schemes. They
- 30:09Speaker 1: want these Shanahan schemes. They want these McVay schemes. I mean,
- 30:12Speaker 1: I guess Ben Johnson's going to wind up with a
- 30:14Speaker 1: tree of his to a degree. All those guys are young. Yes.
- 30:19Speaker 1: Like every single one of them is young. McVay, for example,
- 30:23Speaker 1: clearly has a priority for getting these young guys, which
- 30:26Speaker 1: I also think is important for these guys who were
- 30:28Speaker 1: young coaches. You kind of need people that you could
- 30:30Speaker 1: be in charge of. Yes. Like Sean McVay was a
- 30:33Speaker 1: head coach at 30. I wouldn't have listened to him
- 30:36Speaker 1: at 30. No, of course not. Yeah, why would I
- 30:38Speaker 1: have done something like that?
- 30:39Speaker 4: Right.
- 30:39Speaker 6: Right?
- 30:41Speaker 1: So many of these teams, it feels like, I mean,
- 30:43Speaker 1: we need to probably go count it to a degree,
- 30:45Speaker 1: but they're going to hire these guys like Doyle and
- 30:47Speaker 1: everybody else because these are the guys that are.
- 30:49Speaker 2: Davis Webb's calling plays for the Broncos.
- 30:52Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. These guys are going to be the ones
- 30:55Speaker 1: that are like on the vanguard. So they're going to
- 30:57Speaker 1: be the ones to call the plays. But what that
- 30:59Speaker 1: also means is these teams are going to have a
- 31:01Speaker 1: bunch of kids calling plays. How that manifests itself is
- 31:06Speaker 1: going to be interesting where everybody has somebody young calling
- 31:11Speaker 1: the plays. I don't have a great answer for it,
- 31:15Speaker 1: but I do think that there's something interesting to that.
- 31:17Speaker 1: We're going to have like how many of the teams
- 31:19Speaker 1: that matter are we going to get to like in
- 31:21Speaker 1: the postseason? And you got somebody 31 years old who
- 31:24Speaker 1: hasn't really been doing this very long. Because the other
- 31:26Speaker 1: thing that happens is with these guys is if they're
- 31:28Speaker 1: any good, they become head coaches.
- 31:30Speaker 2: Immediately.
- 31:31Speaker 1: Yeah, immediately. You can't keep them. Yeah. Because if people
- 31:34Speaker 1: want that scheme, they're like, we want to bring you in. Yeah,
- 31:36Speaker 1: bring me in as the head coach. And we've seen
- 31:37Speaker 1: the teams are willing to fire the head coach to
- 31:39Speaker 1: bring the offensive coordinator that they want if that's what
- 31:42Speaker 1: they have to do. You know, that's going to be
- 31:46Speaker 1: a thing. You're talking about people not feeling good. The
- 31:51Speaker 1: Houston Texans, shockingly, 4-0.
- 31:53Speaker 4: I mean, 0-6.
- 31:55Speaker 5: 0-4.
- 31:56Speaker 1: Yes. Slight difference. Yeah. And Stroud wasn't bad in that game. No.
- 32:01Speaker 1: That game, they couldn't stop anybody. That's crazy. Their season's over.
- 32:05Speaker 4: Yes.
- 32:05Speaker 1: They're cooked. The Titans, look, the Titans was never a thing, okay?
- 32:10Speaker 1: But at the same time, did you see the thing
- 32:12Speaker 1: that happened with Cam Ward? And it doesn't sound like
- 32:15Speaker 1: it was his fault.
- 32:17Speaker 2: Whatever's going on between him and the media there is
- 32:20Speaker 2: super weird.
- 32:22Speaker 1: You only have a media go that hard at the quarterback,
- 32:26Speaker 1: let alone the young quarterback on a team that nobody
- 32:29Speaker 1: expects to be good, with the consent of either coaching
- 32:34Speaker 1: or management. I don't know what they are telling people
- 32:37Speaker 1: about him, but I don't know how that turns around.
- 32:43Speaker 1: He was the number one overall pick last year. The
- 32:47Speaker 1: only thing that to me seems to be his saving
- 32:50Speaker 1: grace right now Is there a quarterback in this upcoming
- 32:56Speaker 1: draft that's so good that you can do a Josh
- 32:59Speaker 1: Rosen type of situation on him? Because everything about it
- 33:04Speaker 1: seems sour. And in a way, again, I don't think
- 33:07Speaker 1: I've ever felt like I've seen anything like this that
- 33:10Speaker 1: felt this hour. And he hasn't been good, but what
- 33:13Speaker 1: we were just talking about before with Bryce Young, the
- 33:15Speaker 1: growth arc on these guys, it feels like we have
- 33:17Speaker 1: to look at that a little bit differently. Now, he's
- 33:18Speaker 1: a lot older than Bryce Young was.
- 33:20Speaker 6: Right.
- 33:20Speaker 1: But we still, I don't know if we can go
- 33:23Speaker 1: about looking at teams.
- 33:24Speaker 2: It's just so wild how hostile it is.
- 33:27Speaker 1: I've never seen anything like that.
- 33:30Speaker 2: That's not how. American media works ever.
- 33:33Speaker 3: No.
- 33:34Speaker 1: Especially not where the teams have so much control over
- 33:37Speaker 1: the media guys. That's... Now, they did have that one
- 33:41Speaker 1: guy that came and asked him that question, and I
- 33:43Speaker 1: think they took his press pass away from him. But
- 33:45Speaker 1: then we saw more stuff come after. Somebody's telling these
- 33:48Speaker 1: guys this is okay. And it's interesting because they have
- 33:51Speaker 1: an obvious ownership problem with that team. Like, the only
- 33:55Speaker 1: thing worse than Bud Adams being your owner is a
- 33:57Speaker 1: second-generation Bud Adams situation. And that's what they've got. Like,
- 34:01Speaker 1: this team doesn't look good. The organization doesn't seem to
- 34:03Speaker 1: be strong. People around them have been complaining about Amy
- 34:06Speaker 1: Strzok for as long as I can think of, you know,
- 34:08Speaker 1: since she got there. The quarterback is not, the quarterback
- 34:12Speaker 1: may be a reflection of an issue, but their issues
- 34:15Speaker 1: are grand and they are giant. And it all seems
- 34:18Speaker 1: that right now, the face of it is their 20
- 34:21Speaker 1: something year old quarterback who, I mean, I don't know.
- 34:25Speaker 1: I don't, I don't know what exactly to make of it,
- 34:29Speaker 1: but it's bad.
- 34:31Speaker 2: It's, and this is the same organization that ran off
- 34:33Speaker 2: Mike Vrabel.
- 34:34Speaker 1: Yes.
- 34:35Speaker 2: Gave away AJ Brown and said, no, thanks, Derrick Henry.
- 34:39Speaker 1: When you put it like that. Last thing I'll say
- 34:43Speaker 1: before we get out of here, Ryan mentioned this about
- 34:45Speaker 1: we'll never have a good football team in this city.
- 34:47Speaker 1: Shout out to the Jets. They had their first interception
- 34:49Speaker 1: in 21 games. And which one of these 30-year-old offensive
- 34:54Speaker 1: coordinators are we talking about that's going to be their
- 34:56Speaker 1: head coach next year? Because their head coach is not
- 34:59Speaker 1: going to be Aaron Glenn.
- 35:01Speaker 2: The Bears had more first downs than the Jets ran plays.
- 35:06Speaker 1: Tyson Bajent. was the quarterback in that game. But let
- 35:11Speaker 1: me tell you about a man that is not comfortable
- 35:13Speaker 1: with vulnerable emotions. Did you see the post-game clip of
- 35:16Speaker 1: him where, and I get it, like somebody in the
- 35:19Speaker 1: media was going to the well-worn tale of he's from
- 35:22Speaker 1: some little bitty town in West Virginia, and he talked
- 35:24Speaker 1: about how important it was to be a guy from
- 35:26Speaker 1: West Virginia. And Bajan was like, well, the song is
- 35:28Speaker 1: not called West Virginia. He does not seem pleasant. But
- 35:32Speaker 1: he's like, the song is not called West Virginia. It's
- 35:34Speaker 1: called something else. That's fine, you know, but, you know,
- 35:38Speaker 1: As you know, I'm from a little town, from West Virginia, da-da-da.
- 35:42Speaker 1: I will cry if I start talking about this, so
- 35:46Speaker 1: don't ask me that again. He said that like twice. Yes. Like,
- 35:50Speaker 1: don't ask me that again. That man is not prepared
- 35:53Speaker 1: to cry in front of us.
- 35:54Speaker 2: No.
- 35:54Speaker 1: He is absolutely not. That's some hard-scrabble West Virginia shit
- 35:58Speaker 1: right there. But it was just, he was so, don't
- 36:01Speaker 1: ask me that again. Sorry, buddy. I thought you'd be
- 36:04Speaker 1: a little happier to be here. Be glad somebody asking
- 36:05Speaker 1: you anything. You'd be back on the Oak as soon
- 36:08Speaker 1: as they can. Football is finally back and PrizePix is

- 37:44Speaker 5: Now, if you haven't heard.
- 37:48Speaker 2: All right, Bo, if you haven't heard, presented by PrizePix,
- 37:51Speaker 2: the Fever season ended over the weekend, but the controversy
- 37:56Speaker 2: did not. On Saturday, the Fever's general manager defended the
- 37:59Speaker 2: Fever fan base after a series of criticisms. Quote, the
- 38:02Speaker 2: attacks on our fan base have no basis in reality,
- 38:04Speaker 2: and they need to stop, especially with members of the media.
- 38:07Speaker 2: I'm talking about media who have never been to a game.
- 38:09Speaker 2: At Fieldhouse, every organization in the league, every organization to
- 38:12Speaker 2: which professionals work, All the way down to youth, rec
- 38:14Speaker 2: weeds have to deal with occasional bad behavior from the spectators. Bo,
- 38:19Speaker 2: what was your reaction to this comment?
- 38:20Speaker 1: Boy, she spelled black Twitter wrong. That's what she's talking about.
- 38:28Speaker 1: That's what she's talking about. Black people have decided that
- 38:33Speaker 1: this is the worst fan environment that there's ever been.
- 38:37Speaker 1: Everywhere they go. And here's the thing. I can't speak
- 38:41Speaker 1: to whether that's true or not, okay? I am inclined
- 38:45Speaker 1: to agree with the people and not with that woman,
- 38:48Speaker 1: the general manager. Wow, that sounded awful. That sounded terrible.
- 38:54Speaker 1: My God. Her name is Amber Cox, right? Yes. Okay.
- 38:58Speaker 1: I am inclined to believe the people, not Amber Cox.
- 39:03Speaker 4: Yes.
- 39:04Speaker 1: There are two reasons why, okay? Shit. Number one. Did
- 39:09Speaker 1: you watch, I think it's called Winning Time. It was
- 39:14Speaker 1: a game time. It was the 30 for 30 about
- 39:16Speaker 1: the Knicks Pacers rivalry during the 90s.
- 39:20Speaker 2: That was Winning Time, yes.
- 39:21Speaker 1: Well, it was Winning Time. Yes. Okay. One theme of
- 39:27Speaker 1: that documentary is the story. startling racism from Indiana Pacers fans.
- 39:34Speaker 1: including a sign that was held up by a fan,
- 39:39Speaker 1: and I can't remember the exact wording, but the poster
- 39:42Speaker 1: board had a picture of a noose, and it was like,
- 39:46Speaker 1: hang the Knicks, string the Knicks up, like something in
- 39:49Speaker 1: the lynching family. Yes, okay? Now, it used to be
- 39:54Speaker 1: back in the day when you would bring up something
- 39:56Speaker 1: like that that happened 30 years ago, you would say, well,
- 39:58Speaker 1: that was a long time ago. That don't work no more.
- 40:01Speaker 1: In fact, if that's what it was 30 years ago, unfortunately,
- 40:05Speaker 1: now you got to wonder if the shit's worse, right?
- 40:08Speaker 1: Like this isn't, it's not the sixties anymore. No, no, no.
- 40:10Speaker 1: You can't play that card no more. Look around you,
- 40:12Speaker 1: watch the news. We'll talk about some of that a
- 40:14Speaker 1: little bit later. But anyway, um, I believe, I don't
- 40:18Speaker 1: think all these people are making this up, right? I
- 40:22Speaker 1: don't believe that all these women who are in the
- 40:25Speaker 1: league are just, like, jibber-jabbering when it comes to this.
- 40:30Speaker 1: There is an issue with the way that players and
- 40:35Speaker 1: other fans are receiving the fans of the fever. Now,
- 40:41Speaker 1: you notice the woman was very careful. Amber Cox.
- 40:45Speaker 2: Amber Cox.
- 40:46Speaker 1: Amber Cox. Man, I might need to do some introspection.
- 40:51Speaker 1: But she was like, her problem, she made it very clear,
- 40:55Speaker 1: was with people who haven't even been there. So my
- 40:59Speaker 1: question for her is, what do you have to say
- 41:02Speaker 1: about the people who have been there and are saying
- 41:06Speaker 1: very similar things? And the answer is, whatever she might
- 41:12Speaker 1: say to them, She can't say it in front of everybody.
- 41:16Speaker 1: They're in a bind, all right? And this is why
- 41:19Speaker 1: I say they're in a bind. And I'm not saying
- 41:20Speaker 1: this to absolve her of anything. I'm just saying, let's
- 41:23Speaker 1: just be honest about this. I don't know if any
- 41:25Speaker 1: of you remember the night of the malice in the
- 41:27Speaker 1: palace in 2004. But if you remember, Bill Walton was
- 41:31Speaker 1: on the mic and I forget who was with him.
- 41:32Speaker 1: It might've been John Saunders. I'm not sure who was
- 41:34Speaker 1: doing the play-by-play. But the play-by-play team after it happened
- 41:39Speaker 1: and the post-game set, unanimously chastised the fans for their
- 41:46Speaker 1: poor behavior. The villains that night were the fans. And
- 41:51Speaker 1: if you read, those guys have all the fun, the
- 41:54Speaker 1: oral history of ESPN. Everybody went to sleep, and by
- 41:57Speaker 1: the time they had woke up, there had been meetings,
- 41:59Speaker 1: there had been calls, and it had been determined Now,
- 42:01Speaker 1: what we're not going to do is get on TV
- 42:04Speaker 1: and blame the fans.
- 42:06Speaker 2: Blame the customers.
- 42:07Speaker 1: The customers. They completely changed the entire tenor of the discussion,
- 42:13Speaker 1: and there was no room for anything that was anything
- 42:16Speaker 1: other than the players were wrong because you cannot tell
- 42:19Speaker 1: the customers it's their fault. Right or wrong, that is
- 42:23Speaker 1: not how these things work. And so, Amber Cox... Amber
- 42:30Speaker 1: Cox is not going to get on the microphone and
- 42:32Speaker 1: be like, well, you know, the problem we got is
- 42:34Speaker 1: it's a lot of racists up here.
- 42:36Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 42:36Speaker 1: We're trying to do something about it. I don't know
- 42:38Speaker 1: what to tell you, man, but it's a lot of them. No, man,
- 42:40Speaker 1: that's not on the board in terms of how to
- 42:43Speaker 1: handle it. So what are they supposed to do? Because
- 42:45Speaker 1: Kelsey Mitchell, given those quotes where she said, you know,
- 42:48Speaker 1: it's tough when you don't even know if your fans
- 42:50Speaker 1: like you. Your players are saying this, right? That got
- 42:56Speaker 1: so crazy to the point where... Kelsey Mitchell is getting
- 43:00Speaker 1: hell from fans for playing too well because they interfering
- 43:04Speaker 1: with the Kaitlin Clark MVP case. I don't know how
- 43:06Speaker 1: many of the people that are responding like that are
- 43:08Speaker 1: actual people and how many are bots, but I'm just
- 43:11Speaker 1: saying that's in the air in your incredibly online league.
- 43:15Speaker 1: This is what it is, right or wrong. Players and
- 43:18Speaker 1: fans believe this is you. And it's the player part
- 43:22Speaker 1: that you got to watch out for. Because I don't know,
- 43:25Speaker 1: why would you want to go play there? If you
- 43:28Speaker 1: had any other option given this, why would you want
- 43:32Speaker 1: to play on that team? The only person that seems
- 43:34Speaker 1: to be getting auxiliary benefits from playing next to Kaitlin
- 43:38Speaker 1: Clark and her fame is who? Who's getting it?
- 43:41Speaker 2: Sophie Cunningham.
- 43:41Speaker 1: That's the only person that's getting it. So why is
- 43:44Speaker 1: the rest of the league, and put it in italics,
- 43:47Speaker 1: the rest of the league, why they want to go
- 43:50Speaker 1: do this? Why in the world do they want to
- 43:52Speaker 1: put up with this? I don't know what anybody involved
- 43:56Speaker 1: is supposed to do here. Right. This is wild that
- 44:00Speaker 1: it's all played out that way.
- 44:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 44:03Speaker 1: But they better figure it out.
- 44:04Speaker 2: Because clearly some things are going on in that stadium,
- 44:07Speaker 2: and then clearly things are happening online as well.
- 44:09Speaker 1: And you not just go tell these people they wrong. They, oh, well,
- 44:14Speaker 1: since you put it like that, I'll change my whole season.
- 44:16Speaker 1: That's not going to work. That's not it. And this
- 44:19Speaker 1: whole league has really got to figure out what to
- 44:22Speaker 1: do with that because the vibes are bad, man. Like
- 44:25Speaker 1: now they're at a place, and people talk about this,
- 44:28Speaker 1: that's a win for them, is now it'll be a
- 44:29Speaker 1: lot more about basketball. Right, like- But is it? Well,
- 44:34Speaker 1: because the fever are out. Like, you shouldn't have a
- 44:38Speaker 1: situation where many of your diehard fans as a league
- 44:42Speaker 1: find it relieving when one of your up-and-coming stars is
- 44:46Speaker 1: out of there. Because right now, as far as it
- 44:48Speaker 1: relates to Clark, this is part of the story. This
- 44:52Speaker 1: is the climb that everybody goes through. You're not good
- 44:57Speaker 1: enough right now. Your team's not good enough right now.
- 45:00Speaker 1: They came up short and didn't shoot well enough and
- 45:03Speaker 1: didn't play good enough defense. That's what people were telling
- 45:05Speaker 1: me about when they got put out of there. You're
- 45:08Speaker 1: supposed to be doing the shooting, and we know you
- 45:10Speaker 1: don't come up on the defense. This is the climb.
- 45:13Speaker 1: You're supposed to go into some tunnel or wherever it
- 45:15Speaker 1: is and grind it out and come back.
- 45:16Speaker 2: Like Wimby is supposed to be doing right now.
- 45:18Speaker 1: Exactly. I saw that dude tackling a– a tackling dummy.
- 45:22Speaker 1: No lie.
- 45:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I saw that too.
- 45:24Speaker 1: No lie. He mad. He mad.
- 45:26Speaker 2: You can barely tell he's lowering his shoulder because his
- 45:28Speaker 2: shoulder says that.
- 45:29Speaker 1: That is correct. That is correct. But he gave it
- 45:31Speaker 1: his best, right? But no, man. This is– I don't
- 45:36Speaker 1: know what anybody involved here is supposed to do because–
- 45:40Speaker 1: The women of the WNBA should not back off of
- 45:43Speaker 1: what their truth is, right? But I ask this question,
- 45:48Speaker 1: and I'm asking it somewhat rhetorically. Ron, I don't want
- 45:51Speaker 1: to put you on the spot because I don't know
- 45:52Speaker 1: how close you follow this. That situation that happened with
- 45:55Speaker 1: Asia Wilson, does that happen in any other building? Like,
- 45:58Speaker 1: does she have that reaction in any other building? Because
- 46:03Speaker 1: let's get to an uncomfortable truth here. Where Sophie Cunningham
- 46:06Speaker 1: said they didn't suspend her because she's LeBron James of
- 46:08Speaker 1: the league. I don't know why people are acting like
- 46:11Speaker 1: there's nothing to that. Especially post-2004, you don't get to
- 46:19Speaker 1: run up on the customers that close. You just don't.
- 46:23Speaker 1: I once saw Antonio Davis get suspended for going in
- 46:25Speaker 1: the crowd to get his wife out. We have decided
- 46:29Speaker 1: that's something.
- 46:29Speaker 2: Can't do it.
- 46:30Speaker 1: You can't do it. We've made that decision that that
- 46:32Speaker 1: is something that you cannot do. She did that, and
- 46:34Speaker 1: they did nothing. Nothing. So that means one or two
- 46:38Speaker 1: things is true or maybe some combination of them. One,
- 46:41Speaker 1: that is the best player in the league and you
- 46:44Speaker 1: don't want to have her out for a game three
- 46:47Speaker 1: in a best of three series under those circumstances, which
- 46:50Speaker 1: would be understandable. Or number two, despite the fact that
- 46:55Speaker 1: your investigation said that there was no violation of the
- 46:59Speaker 1: code of conduct, you felt like something was kind of
- 47:03Speaker 1: a violation of the code of conduct, right? But either way,
- 47:07Speaker 1: You made a call to let that slide, that you
- 47:09Speaker 1: did not have to. You could say that part with
- 47:12Speaker 1: no judgment. If they had decided to suspend her, I
- 47:14Speaker 1: don't think there would have been much leg to stand up.
- 47:16Speaker 1: Or just a fine.
- 47:17Speaker 4: Right.
- 47:18Speaker 1: They could have done, they chose nothing. Because I don't
- 47:22Speaker 1: think they have any idea what to do. But they
- 47:24Speaker 1: need to ask themselves, what is it about that building
- 47:27Speaker 1: and that team and the people around it? And I
- 47:30Speaker 1: don't say that rhetorically. Like, they need to get to
- 47:32Speaker 1: the bottom of it. Because otherwise, this is ratcheting up.
- 47:36Speaker 1: You got a while before next season comes, but all
- 47:38Speaker 1: the feelings that surround this aren't going anywhere. In fact,
- 47:40Speaker 1: they're only going to get stronger. And so you're going
- 47:42Speaker 1: to have a game next year where the Aces come
- 47:44Speaker 1: play the Fever. What's going to happen? They're going to try.
- 47:46Speaker 1: They're going to boo her into the ground. And it's
- 47:49Speaker 1: going to be whatever that environment is now is going
- 47:51Speaker 1: to wind up being worse. And that's going to be
- 47:53Speaker 1: the thing that's on TV. And it's going to be
- 47:55Speaker 1: just like this, where we talk about everything except basketball.
- 48:00Speaker 2: All right, also over the weekend, John Gruden showed up
- 48:02Speaker 2: at a Trump rally for an Ohio senator. He said, quote,
- 48:06Speaker 2: I'm from Ohio. My mom and dad are from Cleveland.
- 48:08Speaker 2: I was born in Sandusky, and I'm damn proud of it. Bo, you...
- 48:14Speaker 2: What do you what do you make of John Gruden
- 48:16Speaker 2: showing up here?
- 48:16Speaker 1: That man was so happy to be somewhere that people
- 48:21Speaker 1: were happy to see him. Like, do we know where
- 48:24Speaker 1: he lives? Like, does he still live in Tampa?
- 48:26Speaker 2: I think he's down in Florida.
- 48:27Speaker 1: He looked in that room. I've been here. Ryan, I
- 48:34Speaker 1: don't know if you've had any situation like this, but
- 48:37Speaker 1: I imagine it may have happened at some point because
- 48:39Speaker 1: white people don't talk about it when it happens to them.
- 48:41Speaker 1: But there's nothing quite like what you like. Like when
- 48:43Speaker 1: I went to graduate school in California, I went to
- 48:45Speaker 1: a little town, a graduate school in a little town
- 48:47Speaker 1: called Claremont. You can look up the demographics of Claremont.
- 48:52Speaker 1: John Gruden looked like I did when I would get
- 48:55Speaker 1: back to Atlanta. Oh, my God. I don't have to
- 49:00Speaker 1: explain anything. Right. Every old of my people. Me and
- 49:04Speaker 1: they me and they. Oh, don't say that to John Gruden.
- 49:07Speaker 1: He might have a conniption. But anyway, John Gruden was
- 49:11Speaker 1: so ramped up giving that speech in there. And I
- 49:14Speaker 1: don't know how much any of them actually cared, but
- 49:16Speaker 1: he was so excited to be in that vast. sea
- 49:21Speaker 1: of Republican-ness.
- 49:22Speaker 2: Yes.
- 49:22Speaker 1: Right. He's he still think he just go come back
- 49:26Speaker 1: without having to say anything about anything.
- 49:29Speaker 2: And not only that, he wasn't even a good coach.
- 49:35Speaker 1: John Gruden's last playoff win was in January of 2003,
- 49:39Speaker 1: the Super Bowl. That was the last playoff win that
- 49:45Speaker 1: he had.
- 49:46Speaker 2: Speaking of a sea of Republican-ness, Vivek Swamy was there,
- 49:52Speaker 2: and you pointed out something to me that happened that
- 49:55Speaker 2: you wanted to bring up.
- 49:56Speaker 1: Okay. We've got to get our tech up so we
- 50:00Speaker 1: can share people's videos of this. So Vivek Ramaswani. Didn't
- 50:07Speaker 1: he run for president?
- 50:08Speaker 2: He did run for president.
- 50:09Speaker 1: Okay. He ran for president a little bit. He went
- 50:14Speaker 1: to Harvard. Pablo refers to him very stridently as a dork.
- 50:22Speaker 1: So Vivek is running for governor of Ohio against hashtag
- 50:27Speaker 1: white charade. Is charade a charade?
- 50:30Speaker 2: I believe it's Chirag.
- 50:31Speaker 1: I mean, it's Chirag to me. Right? But anyway, he's
- 50:35Speaker 1: running for governor. He has the Republican nomination. Indian cat.
- 50:40Speaker 1: And He's up there at the dais. And I don't,
- 50:45Speaker 1: why was that kid up there?
- 50:47Speaker 3: I'm not sure.
- 50:47Speaker 1: So there's some kid on the stage. And the kid
- 50:50Speaker 1: looked like he had to be like seven or so.
- 50:53Speaker 2: I would say, yes, between seven and nine.
- 50:55Speaker 1: Yeah, right, somewhere in seven and nine. And it looked
- 50:58Speaker 1: like the vet got the bright idea to like let
- 51:01Speaker 1: the little homie say something on the microphone. But the
- 51:03Speaker 1: microphone was up too high. And so he's like, no problem.
- 51:07Speaker 1: I'll pick you up. And he went to go pick
- 51:10Speaker 1: that kid up. And I want to be fair to Vivek.
- 51:13Speaker 1: He bent his knees. He did everything that he was
- 51:16Speaker 1: supposed to do.
- 51:16Speaker 2: He braced his core.
- 51:17Speaker 1: He did. He engaged his core. That is exactly what
- 51:20Speaker 1: he did. And apparently that little boy has swallowed a
- 51:23Speaker 1: brick because he went to go pick him up. And, oh,
- 51:26Speaker 1: he couldn't get him up. And he kept trying.
- 51:29Speaker 5: Right, Lazy?
- 51:29Speaker 1: He kept going. But the kids got on like a shirt.
- 51:31Speaker 1: So he started sliding. And he couldn't get him all
- 51:34Speaker 1: the way up. And he goes, oh, big guy.
- 51:37Speaker 6: Right?
- 51:38Speaker 1: And the thing he didn't get was, what he needed
- 51:41Speaker 1: to do was, he needed to start low, and then
- 51:44Speaker 1: once he realized it was going to take too much,
- 51:46Speaker 1: he'd stop and be like, whoa, big fella, you're going
- 51:49Speaker 1: to have to wait.
- 51:49Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 51:50Speaker 5: Right?
- 51:50Speaker 1: Like, he needed to make a joke about it right there.
- 51:52Speaker 1: But instead, no. He tried to power through. It was
- 51:55Speaker 1: like his girl was watching, and he was ashamed. He
- 51:58Speaker 1: tried to power through, and he.
- 52:01Speaker 1: That's the kind of shit that loses elections. You need
- 52:04Speaker 1: to understand that. What was it, Michael Dukakis with the joint?
- 52:07Speaker 2: The Howard Dean stream.
- 52:10Speaker 1: Never heard of Howard Dean again. I ain't heard that
- 52:12Speaker 1: man say a word. I know he had other jobs.
- 52:13Speaker 1: I ain't seen him. They put that man in front
- 52:15Speaker 1: of a camera. He was on top going into that primary,
- 52:19Speaker 1: and all he did was get excited. This dude right
- 52:22Speaker 1: here looked like half a man. It was so bad
- 52:25Speaker 1: that the next day, his account put up on Twitter
- 52:27Speaker 1: a picture of him holding his son with the caption,
- 52:31Speaker 1: happy eight-month anniversary, because he needed to show us holding
- 52:35Speaker 1: a child. Sir, that was a baby. You could not
- 52:40Speaker 1: pick up that child. It's okay. That boy looked heavy.
- 52:44Speaker 1: You just didn't, you don't know your limitations. That's not
- 52:48Speaker 1: a good look for a politician. That boy, I'm surprised
- 52:52Speaker 1: that boy, White Sherrod, ain't pulled up somewhere with like
- 52:55Speaker 1: a kid on his back.
- 52:57Speaker 2: And one in each arm.
- 52:58Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, right? Or just in the gym. Just don't,
- 53:01Speaker 1: like that's what Vivek needed to do. Vivek needed to
- 53:03Speaker 1: show that he was just throwing it up, right? Getting
- 53:05Speaker 1: ready for the next time. He learned his lesson from
- 53:07Speaker 1: this happening to him.
- 53:09Speaker 2: All right, and finally, there is an online trend of
- 53:12Speaker 2: people showing their nine most important albums to them. Bo,
- 53:16Speaker 2: you posted yours. I wanted to give you the opportunity
- 53:19Speaker 2: to discuss it now.
- 53:21Speaker 1: Sure. Though I did see after I posted this that
- 53:24Speaker 1: somebody said, we've had enough of your music takes. And,
- 53:30Speaker 1: you know, just some things that I can't say to women.
- 53:32Speaker 1: So anyway... These are the nine I did. Now, I
- 53:37Speaker 1: needed people to understand that the nine I did were
- 53:41Speaker 1: not my nine favorite, per se. They were albums that
- 53:45Speaker 1: had different roles at different places in my life, right?
- 53:49Speaker 1: So the first one was Bill Withers Live at Carnegie
- 53:53Speaker 1: Hall because that is the Jones Family Road Trip staple. Oh, interesting. Yeah,
- 53:57Speaker 1: if I had to associate an album with my dad
- 53:59Speaker 1: or with family, it's that one. Anytime we're on a
- 54:02Speaker 1: road trip and it's time to bring it in, The
- 54:04Speaker 1: song with a whole stretch is the Heart of Cold
- 54:07Speaker 1: Bologna version on that record. So that's how that got
- 54:10Speaker 1: on there. I had Tribe Called Quest, Midnight Marauders, because
- 54:13Speaker 1: as I recall, that is the first album that I
- 54:16Speaker 1: bought with my own money, you know? And it's also,
- 54:20Speaker 1: it is a banger. Outkast, Southern Playlist, Cadillac Music, because
- 54:24Speaker 1: that was the first album I'd ever heard of and
- 54:26Speaker 1: was like, oh, this feels like relatable content. And the
- 54:29Speaker 1: reason it felt like relatable content was The Houston that
- 54:32Speaker 1: people rapped about at that time was not the Houston
- 54:35Speaker 1: that I lived in. That's not a class thing. That's
- 54:37Speaker 1: a geography thing. Southside and Fifth Ward is basically where
- 54:42Speaker 1: all this is coming out of. Places I never had
- 54:43Speaker 1: very much reason to ever be. The parts of Atlanta
- 54:46Speaker 1: that these cats were talking about, I knew. I heard
- 54:49Speaker 1: streets and things that I was aware of on there.
- 54:52Speaker 1: And I was like, oh, okay. And it bangs. Only
- 54:56Speaker 1: built for Cuban links just because it jams. Side of
- 55:00Speaker 1: the Times, because that's the first Prince album that I really,
- 55:05Speaker 1: really super deeply explored on my own. I remember when
- 55:09Speaker 1: I bought it, I think I was in 12th grade
- 55:10Speaker 1: or something like that. And that was the first one
- 55:12Speaker 1: that myself, I really, really got to. And I was like, okay,
- 55:15Speaker 1: now I get it. It Takes a Nation of Millions
- 55:18Speaker 1: to Hold Us Back. I remember when I was a
- 55:22Speaker 1: freshman in college, the source put out their 100th issue.
- 55:27Speaker 1: And in their 100th issue, they had lists of the
- 55:29Speaker 1: top 100 albums, top 100 singles, and they did voting
- 55:33Speaker 1: on what the best of everything was in a time
- 55:35Speaker 1: that people had forgotten. The number one album of all
- 55:38Speaker 1: time there and in many other places was It Takes
- 55:40Speaker 1: a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back. And so
- 55:42Speaker 1: I remember after I'd seen that, And my brother used
- 55:44Speaker 1: to jam it a lot, but I didn't pay that
- 55:46Speaker 1: much attention. After I'd seen that, I remember I went
- 55:48Speaker 1: to the record store and I saw the CD and
- 55:50Speaker 1: I picked it up. And I will just never forget
- 55:53Speaker 1: running brain to noise. And when he hit that never
- 55:55Speaker 1: badder than bad because a brother is madder than mad
- 55:57Speaker 1: at the fact that's so corrupt like a senator's soul
- 55:59Speaker 1: on a rope. But you treat it like soap on
- 56:01Speaker 1: a rope because the beats and the lines are so dope.
- 56:03Speaker 1: And I was like, oh, that's what you guys were
- 56:06Speaker 1: talking about. So we got that. Uh, burning by the whalers.
- 56:11Speaker 1: That is, I put that there because I would never
- 56:14Speaker 1: put legend here because I'm not that kind of guy. However,
- 56:17Speaker 1: I admit we listened to a lot of legend on
- 56:19Speaker 1: road trips also, but burning is the tracks on burn.
- 56:23Speaker 1: I just remember my dad had burning on the tape too.
- 56:25Speaker 1: Like the tracks on burner, the ones that jumped out
- 56:27Speaker 1: is like my intro and Bob stuff. Juvenile 400 Degrees,
- 56:31Speaker 1: because that album, more than any other, expanded me as
- 56:35Speaker 1: a more open-minded person in terms of what I could
- 56:40Speaker 1: and could not say was dope for whatever reason it was.
- 56:42Speaker 1: Because I remember the first time I saw that Ha
- 56:44Speaker 1: video and them dudes with them gold teeth and everything else,
- 56:47Speaker 1: and it sounded like he was mumbling. I'm like, what?
- 56:48Speaker 1: what are we talking about here? Like, is this what
- 56:50Speaker 1: we're really doing? I ran that album. It was like,
- 56:52Speaker 1: this is the most incredible thing I have ever heard.
- 56:54Speaker 1: And these dudes is rapping, right? So like my very
- 56:57Speaker 1: heavy East Coast lean and sensibilities at that time, it
- 57:00Speaker 1: wasn't like there was no Southern records that I was into,
- 57:03Speaker 1: but it put me in a place to have to
- 57:04Speaker 1: actually do some revisiting on some of them and be like, okay,
- 57:07Speaker 1: you might've been being a hater. And David Bowie, The
- 57:12Speaker 1: Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars,
- 57:14Speaker 1: because that's the first Bowie album I really got into.
- 57:17Speaker 1: It's not the best one, but I still think it's
- 57:19Speaker 1: really interesting. And I still remember getting toward the end
- 57:23Speaker 1: of Moon Age Daydream and being like, oh, that's what's
- 57:26Speaker 1: going on here. Gotcha. So I could do another nine.
- 57:31Speaker 1: I could do nine more. I could do nine on
- 57:33Speaker 1: themes or whatever it is. But that was how I
- 57:35Speaker 1: picked that nine. And number 10 would have been Babyface,
- 57:37Speaker 1: Tend to Love Her. But I just only had nine spaces.
- 57:40Speaker 1: I just couldn't find a way to work it.
- 57:46Speaker 2: All right, Bo, let's get to voicemails. Speaking of babyface.
- 57:50Speaker 5: Hey, Bomani, this is Dylan from New York City. Loved
- 57:53Speaker 5: listening to you for a long time, so it's a
- 57:55Speaker 5: pleasure to connect. I've long really enjoyed your music takes
- 58:01Speaker 5: in addition to your sports stuff. You've helped get me
- 58:04Speaker 5: into Prince and the Isley Brothers and some really other
- 58:06Speaker 5: great artists. So I've been enjoying the discourse around Babyface.
- 58:12Speaker 2: I'm a little.
- 58:12Speaker 5: Agnostic about him in particular, but I was wondering if
- 58:16Speaker 5: there is a white songwriter equivalent to how you feel
- 58:20Speaker 5: about Babyface, someone who is either critically loved or popularly
- 58:26Speaker 5: loved that you just don't rock with. So would love
- 58:31Speaker 5: to hear your perspective on that. Thanks so much.
- 58:34Speaker 1: Okay, so songwriter, that's a little bit more difficult for
- 58:40Speaker 1: me to give you the direct analog to. But I
- 58:44Speaker 1: will tell you someone that is revered in his field,
- 58:47Speaker 1: similar to the way Babyface is revered as a songwriter,
- 58:50Speaker 1: that I don't find myself being nearly as excited about,
- 58:53Speaker 1: even though every now and then he hits the mark,
- 58:55Speaker 1: and that's Eric fucking Clapton. Eric Clapton as guitar player.
- 59:01Speaker 1: Not here for it. And it don't even have to
- 59:03Speaker 1: do with the xenophobia situation. He could have the same
- 59:06Speaker 1: politics as me and I would feel the same way.
- 59:09Speaker 1: I just don't. i don't feel it when he gets
- 59:11Speaker 1: to go and there's a whole gang of guitar players
- 59:13Speaker 1: that i throw out there that i find to be
- 59:14Speaker 1: more interesting Been listening to Eric Clapton. Again, that's not
- 59:17Speaker 1: to say he can't never hit it. That's not to
- 59:20Speaker 1: say the stuff with Cream is not good. He is,
- 59:22Speaker 1: to me, another case of you surround him with some Beast,
- 59:25Speaker 1: he'll do okay with the Beast. You ask him to
- 59:27Speaker 1: carry the Beast, nah.
- 59:29Speaker 6: No, not really.
- 59:31Speaker 1: That's not going to get you there. And people really
- 59:35Speaker 1: like that wonderful Tonight song. That's some babyface shit right there,
- 59:38Speaker 1: if you want to be perfectly honest. Like that, that, that.
- 59:42Speaker 1: That right there. So, yeah, a lot of people get
- 59:44Speaker 1: mad at me with the Eric Clapton one, too. Yeah,
- 59:47Speaker 1: that's the best one I'll give you.
- 59:49Speaker 2: All right, here's our next one.
- 59:52Speaker 5: What's up, Bo?
- 59:53Speaker 2: This is your boy Ant from the DMV.
- 59:58Speaker 7: I was first by being born into a family that
- 1:00:02Speaker 7: loved the Miami Dolphins, even though we lived nowhere near Miami.
- 1:00:08Speaker 7: And it's been a long, long, long lifetime of disappointment.
- 1:00:14Speaker 4: The Tua, Tyreek, Daniels, Seasons, you know, got me living
- 1:00:22Speaker 4: a little bit. You know, I was excited about the future,
- 1:00:25Speaker 4: and then the collapse, it just brought me down, bro.
- 1:00:30Speaker 4: I don't think I have another rebuild in me. You know,
- 1:00:33Speaker 4: music don't sound as good. Sun don't shine as brightly.
- 1:00:38Speaker 4: Food doesn't taste as sweet. And my question to you
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: as someone that was successfully able to get off that
- 1:00:45Speaker 4: narcotic is should I just rip the band-aid off or
- 1:00:50Speaker 4: should I slowly just kind of pull away?
- 1:00:53Speaker 7: Because, like I said, I don't have another rebuild in me.
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: I don't know what to do.
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: So, please, help your boy out. By the way, babyface
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: is the man.
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: Later. All the people for y'all to ride for. Ride for. Anyway,
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: the Dolphins. The thing about the Dolphins that's easy to
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: forget is that from 1971 to 1984, they went to
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: the Super Bowl five times. They had, I want to say,
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: three quarterbacks who won MVP or at least first-team All-Pro.
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: And then they just been whatever. Like they are not,
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: the difference between the Dolphins and the Raiders is scant.
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: The Raiders have won a Super.
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: Bowl suit and the Dolphins have.
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: The difference is, though, the worst of the Raiders has
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: been worse than the worst of the Dolphins and has
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: been more of a consistent bottom. But they are teams
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: that were venerable franchises that you're of a certain age
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: and you have no idea that this was the case, right?
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: So what you need to do is.
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: Yeah, just stop. Like you can make the decision. Just stop.
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: Take some what you need to do. It took me
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: a while before I found the right one. Just take
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: some time and look around. Date some teams. And if
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: somebody really kind of jumps out to you like something
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: they got going, go ahead and like see what it
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: is that they got for you. And I'm going to
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: tell you now it's going to come with some ups
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: and downs. Like right now, not happy with my choices,
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: but I'm there and I'm going to stick with it.
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: And you can do the same.
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: But my Jones fan rehab is.
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: We need to start this. We need to start. I
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: tell you, I bet if we could, like, set up
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: a one-day workshop, I bet we could do it. Man,
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: if Game Theory was still on, that would be an
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: amazing field sketch.
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: Just how to quit your team.
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: All right, here's our last one.
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: Hey, this is Jake in Durham.
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: Love the show.
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: Been a big fan for years. One of my favorite
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: things is where people call in and tell the stories
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: about the... the white people that have names that you're
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: surprised they're white. And you and Dominique were talking about
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: Liam Cohen, and I got wondering, I've never heard of
- 1:03:20Speaker 3: a black Liam before. And I've heard of a lot
- 1:03:23Speaker 3: of Liams. And so just to make sure, I searched,
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: and Liam was apparently the most popular boy's name. But
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: all the Liams I can think of, Gallagher, Nielsen, Cohen,
- 1:03:35Speaker 3: they're white. But I'm pretty white myself. So Have you
- 1:03:40Speaker 3: ever heard of a black Liam? I'll hang up and listen.
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: Have a good one.
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: No, I haven't heard of a black Liam, but it's
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: only a matter of time. There's a whole run there
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: that started really like in like the mid 2000s. where
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: black people started giving their kids these clueless-ass names, like,
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: trying to white it up a little bit, like they're
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: not going to have to go in for that job
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: interview eventually. You know what I mean? But ain't no
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: white people ever did that we ain't going to find
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: no way to adopt or throw into our shit at
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: some point or some fashion. So I have not met that.
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: It was a long time, by the way, before I
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: realized that Liam was short for William. I did not
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: realize that until sometime in the last, like, two or

- 1:04:20Speaker 3: Um.
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: There hasn't been like, I guess Liam Neeson is the
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: only one, but like a Liam that was cool enough
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: to like really cross over to where we might want
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: to jump on that. Like Liam Gallagher. Not that guy. No, no, no.
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: In fact, he's the opposite. In fact, if Liam Gallagher
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: comes over here, we gonna fuck him up. We heard
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: what he'd been saying, you know. But ladies and gentlemen.
