- 0:00Aloha. Tuesday morning in Hawaiʻi. I'm Mele with what's happening today across the islands.
- 1:35Scattered showers are moving in through Wednesday, especially on the windward side and in the valleys. A system coming from the northeast will bring some moisture, though the leeward shores will mostly stay dry. By Friday, the rain clears and the weekend shapes up nicely. Trade winds are running moderate to brisk, so expect some breeze through the channels between islands.
- 1:53On the water: Oʻahu's south shore is running 3.8 feet — small and comfortable for swimmers. The north shore is a bit bigger at 4.1 feet with some shore break to watch. Kauaʻi's got 4.8 feet of moderate surf. Maui and the Big Island are calmer at 2.8 and 1.2 feet, making them better for beginner snorkelers today.
- 2:09Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park has several closures this week — the Kahuku Unit Roads, Kīpukapuaulu Trail, and Lava Tube Bridge are all off limits. The park remains open otherwise, but if you're hiking there, watch for volcanic ash in the air.
- 2:21I just posted a guide to the easiest snorkeling spots for beginners across all the islands. If you're thinking about getting in the water this week with calm conditions on Maui and the Big Island, that piece walks you through which beaches have the gentlest entry, clearest water for first-timers, and which ones to skip if you're still finding your sea legs. It's island by island, so you can match it to wherever you're headed.
- 2:43Wednesday brings more rain in the windward valleys, but by Friday the system clears out. The weekend stays dry and breezy — perfect for leeward beaches and outdoor plans.
- 2:51If you're planning a snorkel trip this week, the calm Big Island waters make it a good day to go. Full snorkeling guide is on the site. Talk to you tomorrow.
