Transcript
- 0:00It's most things Kenobi. An elegant podcast.
- 0:04For a more civilized fandom. Hi everyone, welcome to another
- 0:20episode of Most Things Kenobi, a podcast about Obi Wan Kenobi and
- 0:24all things Star Wars. I'm your host, Leanne.
- 0:27And I'm your host, Lauren. And this week, we're diving back
- 0:31into the skeleton crew. This would be the last two
- 0:35episodes that have aired, Episodes 5 and 6, I believe.
- 0:38Yeah. Yeah, so turn back now.
- 0:42If you haven't watched, don't listen.
- 0:44Come back later after you watch 'cause we, as usual, spoiler
- 0:48alert, we're gonna talk about the show.
- 0:50So there you. Go yes indeed.
- 0:52I actually really like these episodes.
- 0:55I did too. I thought they were so much fun.
- 0:58I really, especially 5 felt like Indiana Jones.
- 1:03It was very Indiana Jones, and not in a way that was like so
- 1:09obvious, but it had flavor of Indiana Jones and I was 100%
- 1:14here for it. I loved every second of it.
- 1:16Yeah, it was like solving puzzles, going deeper into this
- 1:22maze that was booby trapped. You know, it was just like,
- 1:25yeah, all, all the classic Indiana Joe's moments like this,
- 1:29especially the beginning of Raiders of the Lost Ark.
- 1:33Yeah, yeah, you know, and it was also like find the IT was the
- 1:38when they were down in the in the treasure, like the buried
- 1:42treasure area and they were looking for the thing that
- 1:45looked natural. So I was getting the the goblet,
- 1:49the the thing that Jesus allegedly drank from.
- 1:54Oh. Yes, yes, yes.
- 1:55From Last Crusade. Yeah, yeah, I had the same
- 1:59thought. Exact same thought.
- 2:00Yeah, that's and that's my favorite Indiana Jones movie, so
- 2:04me too. Yeah.
- 2:06So it had flavors of that. I also liked episode 6 because
- 2:11it delved into the depth of these little kids.
- 2:14Who? I really love KBI, think she
- 2:17might be my favorite character. Yeah, she is.
- 2:20She was so good. She was.
- 2:23That whole sequence with her and Ren, I thought it was Ren is his
- 2:28name Wim? Wim.
- 2:29Thank you. I was like, that felt wrong.
- 2:35Yeah. I thought that was a really
- 2:36beautiful sequence. I really enjoyed that.
- 2:38I was very. We don't see moments like that
- 2:42in Star Wars very often. It's very human in a way even
- 2:45though they were fixing her like robotic augmentation but.
- 2:52I was not expecting that. I thought she just wore that
- 2:55because it helped her do like problem solving.
- 2:59I didn't realize that she has parts.
- 3:05Yeah, that she said she was in an accident.
- 3:07They don't explain that. They don't say what happened or
- 3:10what, you know, what her issues are that she's living with.
- 3:13But yeah, like you, I thought it was just like glasses she was
- 3:18wearing. I didn't realize it was like
- 3:19hardwired into her so much and and they never ever really
- 3:25addressed except 3PO bitching about needing an oil bath.
- 3:28Yeah, right. They never addressed corrosion
- 3:32in Star Wars, so I thought that was really cool actually.
- 3:36I know it. It's kind of the little things.
- 3:38There's got to be a lot more corrosion going on especially.
- 3:42I mean, I don't, I don't know. I just think it, I thought the
- 3:45whole thing was kind of brilliant.
- 3:46I I. I liked it.
- 3:49'Cause there was a lot less screaming in these episodes from
- 3:52the children, there's a lot less child screaming, like let's run
- 3:58this way, like shit like that. I thought for sure that they
- 4:03were going to call like KB was going to call that Elf, not Elf.
- 4:09I'm sorry, owl the owl. Not elf.
- 4:13Not elf, an owl. Another three letter word.
- 4:16That's it. I thought for sure she was gonna
- 4:18call the owl. Yeah, well, and every time I see
- 4:22an X wing, I really just hope it's gonna be Luke Skywalker.
- 4:25I know he's. Got other shit to do besides
- 4:29coming to a resort? Everybody, all the time.
- 4:33Yes. Isn't he off somewhere saving
- 4:36the Mandalorian? Yeah, seriously.
- 4:40Building a school? Hanging out with Baby Yoda.
- 4:43I know. What did you think of the
- 4:46resort? Did it seem familiar to you at
- 4:50all? Laughed out loud.
- 4:52I saw some people talking about it before I watched the episode
- 4:55and then when you texted me they basically just ripped off your
- 4:59fan fiction. It totally did.
- 5:01It was even on like a winter planet like yours.
- 5:04And they had rooms for experiences and different
- 5:07themes. And I'm just like, OK, a cheap
- 5:09idea is a cheap idea, but come on.
- 5:10Like, I did have this idea for Star Wars folks.
- 5:16Many of you don't know this. She did a.
- 5:18While ago. Like years ago.
- 5:20Years and years and years ago, but hey, whatever.
- 5:24And in Leanne's story, Obi Wan goes to this pleasure resort,
- 5:28and it's delightful, and I think he deserves that.
- 5:30Now that it's in Canon, I think he should go.
- 5:33I'm saying he's the only one that deserves a break there.
- 5:37He can nap, which is the thing we've been promoting since day
- 5:40one for Obi Wan, is a nap. True.
- 5:44A nap. So Speaking of Obi Wan, you know
- 5:47what? There's a lot of like crazy
- 5:49theories going around of who JOD is.
- 5:52Oh yeah. My deep cut theory is JOD is Obi
- 5:58Wan's younger brother. I had this thought because.
- 6:02Did you? Because we got the Qui Gon
- 6:06quote. I know, right?
- 6:10What? The fuck was with that?
- 6:13How would he know? That how would he know that
- 6:16unless told by an older brother who's heard it from Qui Gon
- 6:20right? And how would Obi Wan have met
- 6:23his older brother or younger brother?
- 6:24I don't know if that's even possible.
- 6:26I suppose it is post Kenobi series because he's mentioned in
- 6:30the Kenobi series like that's the first time ever.
- 6:33True. We hear Obi Wan say he has a
- 6:35younger brother. Possibly right?
- 6:38They have the same accent. They got the same blue eyes.
- 6:41Plus, Ewan McGregor and Jude Law are old friends.
- 6:44They used to be roommates back when they first started out.
- 6:47Like, yeah, come on. I mean, it's right there on a
- 6:50silver platter, right? Obi Wan's been to the resort via
- 6:54my story. His younger brother, possibly
- 6:57allegedly, has been to the resort in this story.
- 7:02It would explain why he might be slightly force sensitive while
- 7:05he maybe his parents didn't want to send a second child to the
- 7:08Jedi, but maybe because he knew his older brother had been sent,
- 7:12he learns about the Jedi. There's all sorts of ways
- 7:15through osmosis that he could have picked up these lines.
- 7:18I know some of our patrons had said they thought he was maybe
- 7:21like an initiate or something at the Jedi Temple, but didn't pass
- 7:25the whatever got kicked out, or maybe the the Empire came along
- 7:30before he got a chance to take the trials or whatever.
- 7:34Because he's regurgitating, yeah, Jedi terminology, but he's
- 7:39totally, definitely not got the morals of a Jedi.
- 7:43Nope, no, he definitely has gone on his own path.
- 7:46First of all, I was so thrilled to see that Scottish actress who
- 7:50had the white face paint and the braid.
- 7:53Yeah, she's awesome. She's, she's from, well, she's
- 7:57from a lot of things. She's won an Emmy.
- 7:59I know that. But she was in Boardwalk Empire,
- 8:02which I loved that show back when it was on.
- 8:04And oh. I didn't know she was in.
- 8:06There she was a main character and I loved her then and I, I
- 8:08was so God, I'm terrible with names.
- 8:14She was in Trainspotting. Yeah, she was in Trainspotting.
- 8:17Another human connection. Kelly MacDonald, Kelly.
- 8:21MacDonald Thank you. Yeah, she is fabulous.
- 8:24I loved her character's whole look from top to bottom.
- 8:29And the way she smiled with so many teeth.
- 8:32Yeah, I don't know if the actress does that naturally.
- 8:35I mean, she she has beautiful. Yeah, she's got a beautiful
- 8:38smile. But the way she was like using
- 8:40her teeth and this I thought was so great.
- 8:42It was like a. Predator totally, totally.
- 8:46And I don't know what that species is or whatever, but I
- 8:48bet you there's something to it. But I, I loved every, every
- 8:52moment. She kind of gave me Ventress
- 8:55vibes a bit. They run in the same circle.
- 8:59I guaranteed they got the same hair stylist, they got the same
- 9:02makeup artist, they got the same.
- 9:04I guarantee they know each other.
- 9:08Damn she was great. I I really enjoyed the levels
- 9:12she brought to that character. It was not one-dimensional.
- 9:15It was very interesting. She had like you liked her, but
- 9:20you also don't trust her and you can tell there's like a history
- 9:23there. She brought a lot to it with a
- 9:24very few scenes that she was in. I thought she was awesome.
- 9:27She wasn't on screen for very long, and she.
- 9:31I need more of her. Yeah.
- 9:35You know who else I really liked in this?
- 9:37This set of episodes was when they went down into the mud
- 9:42area, I guess. And then they went further down
- 9:46and they met that giant thing. Yeah, with a little mustache,
- 9:52yeah. With a little mustache.
- 9:53Huge mustache. Yeah, but he's like, he was mean
- 9:56at 1st and you didn't know, and then he turned into like just a
- 9:58conversationalist who likes stories.
- 10:00I loved that creature. I did too.
- 10:04I love how they befriended him. He just wanted to hear a story.
- 10:07He was there like anyone else trying to get away from the real
- 10:09world. I loved him.
- 10:11I that's. Kind of what I love about this
- 10:14show is when I expect something to happen, it kind of doesn't go
- 10:17the way, yeah, it normally would in a kids show.
- 10:21In the moments where I expected them to start screaming and
- 10:24being afraid, they turn it into a moment that's sometimes
- 10:26gentle. And I actually really like that.
- 10:29I like Jude Laws moments of comedy that I do kind of,
- 10:33they're cliche, but I kind of love them.
- 10:36When he's like, I'll handle this and then he's like, run just
- 10:39turns around and runs. It's it's great actually.
- 10:42It's very tongue in cheek and the way he does it I think is
- 10:45why it works really well. Yeah, there's a way that that
- 10:48you can do it to make it seem less what this is, but it's it's
- 10:54genuine. Yeah.
- 10:56It's genuine ridiculous and he knows that everyone knows it and
- 10:59it's OK because there's that space to allow it to just be.
- 11:03Right, silly, because I guess when you see it written on the
- 11:06page, it's like that could really not hit right if it's not
- 11:09done well. And it's like it's acted well,
- 11:11it's edited well. And so it is funny even though
- 11:14we've seen it a million times all over the world, you know, in
- 11:17every movie, you know, everywhere.
- 11:20So yeah, I I think the show is really accomplishing the tone
- 11:25that it wanted to. I don't feel like with other
- 11:29Star Wars stuff that's come out, it's all over the place and it
- 11:32doesn't know what it wants to be like.
- 11:33This seems very focused. Yes, telling the story it means
- 11:38to tell with the tone and the aesthetic, it's very consistent.
- 11:42Even though they have different directors, the whole show feels
- 11:44consistent. I think it's doing a really good
- 11:48job and I'm I'm really enjoying it.
- 11:50After the episode 5, I was just like, this is delightful.
- 11:54Like I was drinking tea with my dog watching and I was like, I'm
- 11:57having such a good time and I can't wait to start episode 6.
- 12:00Let's go. You know, like.
- 12:02I've been pleasantly surprised myself after.
- 12:06I'm just like, right, Yeah. I mean after having it be really
- 12:12irritating. Also, hold on though, hold on.
- 12:15Are we disappointed that at what?
- 12:21What is it at? At Aten.
- 12:24At Aten is not more than just the money factory is is that
- 12:31what I. Think it is.
- 12:32It is more than that. I I really do.
- 12:34And I'm not even sure they're gonna find what they're looking
- 12:37for there or that the the pirate captain is even actually dead.
- 12:42Like, I think there's gonna be a lot more to it when they
- 12:45actually get to the reveal of what it really is supposed to
- 12:50be, if they even do in this season.
- 12:52They only have two episodes left.
- 12:53I know. So I don't think we're going to
- 12:55wrap up everything in two seasons or two episodes, but
- 12:59yeah. It was, it was just like, I'm
- 13:01like, oh, please don't let this be like, it's got to be more
- 13:05than that, right? Like.
- 13:07But that's like the classic pirate booty, the the treasure
- 13:10that never runs out. It's like, you know, the the
- 13:13Holy Grail. Truly.
- 13:16But I want what me and you concocted the last time we
- 13:19talked about how it's all being protected by some getaway group
- 13:25that knows something that you know, those the parents.
- 13:27The parents are in on it, almost on what I don't.
- 13:31I don't think it's not that necessarily.
- 13:33Still, I think there is something going on with those
- 13:38parents. Yeah.
- 13:39I mean, they're and the the administrator that they're.
- 13:43Oh, my God. I'm literally putting it
- 13:44together now. The administrator is going to
- 13:46turn out to be the pirate captain, the one that they can
- 13:49never get a meeting with. It's got to turn out to be the
- 13:52the captain. It's the.
- 13:55I mean, I guess I'll. Put money on it now.
- 13:57Will you put all that for public credits on it?
- 14:00Yeah, that's my, my guess is where we're going to find out
- 14:04who he went to because he made it there.
- 14:08The ship got there, although they said that his concubine
- 14:13stabbed him and there was a corpse, you know, a skeleton.
- 14:17With a blade. 2nd That's another story time.
- 14:21Yeah, that's that's for another day.
- 14:24I think it's great to have a concubine in Star Wars.
- 14:28Yeah. I mean, we've seen the Sigerian
- 14:31arc. We know that those exist.
- 14:38Yeah, wonder who that will be when we see who it is.
- 14:41Who the administrator will be? Yeah.
- 14:44If it's yeah, I'm curious. The the the fabled pirate that
- 14:47we're all coming to to know here.
- 14:51Well, this is saying Old Republic credits, right?
- 14:53I'm. Hearing that right, yes, that's
- 14:55what I heard, yeah. That's like way before the
- 14:59prequels even. That's like from what's that
- 15:02other show? Acolyte, right?
- 15:05That was Old Republic. Or is that the High Republic?
- 15:08Oh. My God I literally can't keep
- 15:10this shit straight anymore. Wasn't the lightsaber that Wim
- 15:13found? Wasn't that a Jedi temples
- 15:17lightsaber? Or am I just?
- 15:20Oh. Yeah, that's right.
- 15:22You're right. They only had gold.
- 15:23OK. I did love when he turned it on
- 15:25and it was upside down. I said I laughed out loud.
- 15:28I was not expecting to laugh out loud.
- 15:30And I was like, that is exactly what would happen to a kid who
- 15:33doesn't know how to hold it. You know that's.
- 15:35Funny, his poor little face too. He was just like, so
- 15:40embarrassed. It's going to.
- 15:41Be the moment he always dreamt of and it was upside down.
- 15:44It's just like any kid who would hold something and not know, you
- 15:49know, make sure the right ends up.
- 15:52I know I was like, this is either gonna be the big hero
- 15:55Star Wars moment or this is gonna not go well for this.
- 15:59And it it was actually very cute how they how they did.
- 16:02That yeah. And I thought that was great.
- 16:03It was really funny yeah. And there was, I kept hearing
- 16:08like very peripheral references to, to Peter Pan again.
- 16:15And I just I love when they call people a bilge rat.
- 16:22OK. I'm a huge fan of the original
- 16:25Disney Peter Pan movie with, you know, I, I don't even know when
- 16:29it's from. Is it the 40s?
- 16:31Oh, it's old. Maybe the 60s.
- 16:32It's old. It's old and you know it's
- 16:36racist. I'm saying that up front.
- 16:37We know that it's it's terrible. There was a.
- 16:40Lot about Disney in that era. That has been beyond, you know,
- 16:46as in our childhood and now they're sort of putting
- 16:49disclaimers at the beginning on Disney Plus saying we are aware
- 16:53we don't want to change the original product, but we're
- 16:55aware that there's some insensitive references.
- 16:59You don't. I just love Captain Hook in in
- 17:02that version. I love, I pretty much always
- 17:05love Captain Hook, but he's so funny in that version and
- 17:08they're always calling people bilge rats in that.
- 17:11And I I. Didn't know that.
- 17:13It has like a special place in my heart.
- 17:15So when I heard it in the show, she was like, Oh my God, thank
- 17:18you. I didn't put that together at
- 17:20all because I haven't seen that damn movie since I was like 4
- 17:24or. Maybe it's just a big all
- 17:27pirates say or it's from maybe Peter Pan is actually
- 17:30referencing Treasure Island or but to me, that's where I was
- 17:36first exposed to it. But yeah, I I should have read
- 17:40Treasure Island. I just I get exhausted.
- 17:43By Yeah. Stevenson It's tiring to read
- 17:47it, but yeah. Did you expect him to turn Bad
- 17:52Jude Law's character? Well, it wasn't a good sign when
- 18:00Wim wanted to clearly talk about his mother and losing things and
- 18:05being sad about adventures, and he gave the fine and then he sat
- 18:10down and talked to him. I wondered about that scene.
- 18:14Yeah, I, I and then that's when we got the attachments are bad.
- 18:19And then the your focus determines your, your reality,
- 18:23all this Jedi business. And I was just like, that was
- 18:27such a good moment for him to be good and he wasn't.
- 18:31And I said he's probably gonna, he's probably gonna turn at some
- 18:34point. Yeah, that scene was so odd,
- 18:38too, because Wim leaves clearly upset, and he follows him on
- 18:42purpose. Jude Law's character follows
- 18:44Wim, and then he hears him crying, knows he's crying, goes
- 18:49in and let's Wim see him see it, and then acts like, oh, oh,
- 18:55you're crying. So it's like, was he just trying
- 18:57to get Wim to toughen up using tough love, or was he really,
- 19:02like, turned off by it? I am.
- 19:05I wasn't sure what was going on there because he kept giving off
- 19:09two different energies at the same time.
- 19:11And I think he has two different energies.
- 19:13I think it's going to come down to when it, when the rubber
- 19:16hits, rubber meets the road, rubber hits the road, he's going
- 19:20to choose the kids over whatever else.
- 19:24Like the kids are going to get in big trouble and he's going to
- 19:26have a come to Jesus moment. He's going to follow his heart.
- 19:30You know, it's about connection after all.
- 19:32It's about attachment after all, you know, and that's where I
- 19:37think it's going. He may not, but none of this
- 19:40solidifies that. So I don't know.
- 19:43So much of Star Wars is about a redemption story.
- 19:46So very true. I wouldn't.
- 19:48I wouldn't be disappointed if he turned good and was actually a
- 19:53kind person, but he is a fucking pirate so.
- 19:56Well, he has all these names, he has all these personas.
- 20:00OK, it's great. All these people know him for
- 20:02something different, which is great if you're making your way
- 20:04through the the Galaxy and you just want to slip away.
- 20:08And if your last name is really Kenobi, you definitely want to
- 20:11hide that. 100%, just 100 percent, 100% you don't want
- 20:18wrapped up in all that. That's a lot.
- 20:20Yeah, you don't want Darth Vader breathing down your neck because
- 20:23you're related. No, but even Obi Wan didn't
- 20:26change his own last name. He changed his first name, so
- 20:30who knows? He just hit his bench.
- 20:33Kenobi. Super top secret.
- 20:38That's true. He did give a like his character
- 20:44give a very persuasive speech there about he really appealed
- 20:49the last appeal or whatever it was.
- 20:51Yeah, I love. That there's all these pirate
- 20:53codes of honor amongst a bunch of people who don't have honor.
- 20:59It was a real thing. Like, I don't know if that was
- 21:01exactly the code, but Pirates really did have a code that they
- 21:05lived by that was not just a Pirates of the Caribbean thing.
- 21:07Right. True, but what what you know if
- 21:11you want to juxtapose that with the Jedi code.
- 21:14Yeah, actually that's great point.
- 21:17The Jedi went against their own code more than the pirates went
- 21:20against their code, and they're supposed to be the bad guys and
- 21:23the Jedi are the good guys, so. You're so right, the pirates are
- 21:27sticking to it no matter what. They don't like each other.
- 21:30They're ready to kill each other.
- 21:31They're ready to send them out air locks or air vents and and
- 21:34they are going to uphold the code but.
- 21:36The code is all they've got. But if we're fucking people
- 21:39behind closed doors at the temple, don't tell.
- 21:43Don't, don't tell anyone. Yeah, right, Right.
- 21:45We're getting married. We're doing all kinds of things
- 21:49secret. Wives.
- 21:51It's all OK if you just don't say anything.
- 22:00I wonder if he does turn out to be Kenobi's younger brother if
- 22:03that's why Kenobi doesn't talk about him or because he he
- 22:06actually wants his younger brother's life.
- 22:09He's. Jealous.
- 22:12I don't think that's Kenobi's MO, but like, I bet you, there's
- 22:16a part of him whenever he wished he would have stayed with
- 22:19Satine, that he'd have been like, you know what, Maybe my
- 22:21younger brother had it right. Well, and I could see like one
- 22:25of the reasons I could actually see it is that maybe Jod knows,
- 22:30you know, that Obi Wan is his older brother and feels like an
- 22:33intense amount of resentment that he has the same skill but
- 22:36wasn't given the same respect. I mean, Obi Wan is famous all
- 22:40over the Galaxy. He was the hero next to Anakin
- 22:42Skywalker, the brothers, you know, and there's this guy and
- 22:46he says make the life you want. So he said fuck all and went off
- 22:50and became powerful in his own way.
- 22:52Very much. Just in his speech, the way he
- 22:55was talking about always having crumbs, like true, always being
- 23:00hungry and left crumbs and never getting the full, you know,
- 23:04piece of pie. He didn't say that, but that's
- 23:07pie is delicious and who doesn't want a full piece?
- 23:09But he loves. Pies.
- 23:12Obi Wan and Kenobi Pie. Wonder what his favorite type of
- 23:15pie would be? Obi Wan, Yeah.
- 23:21I fancy him a pecan pie kind of guy.
- 23:25We should ask James. James Arnold Taylor would know.
- 23:29I mean, he should. Oh my God.
- 23:32Well, we know what kind of sandwich he likes.
- 23:34Hey, hey, moving on. Yeah.
- 23:41So we haven't really even talked that much about Episode 6, which
- 23:45is just like the kids with their relationships with.
- 23:49Each other, I gotta say, they're knocking it out of the park once
- 23:52again every single episode with the visuals.
- 23:55They're very believable. Yeah, they're they're beautiful.
- 23:58Yeah, I mean, just even the I the the last scene where the
- 24:05ship peels away from itself. Yeah, that was kind of very
- 24:10clever. I was not expecting that.
- 24:13I was like you, you're damaged beyond repair.
- 24:16What are you going to do? And I was like, whoa, there's a
- 24:19whole another ship inside. That seems like if it's a pirate
- 24:23ship, that seems like a pirate Y kind of thing to have done to
- 24:25your ship now. Yeah.
- 24:27My question is why wasn't any of Anakin's ships rigged with this
- 24:31ability? Because that would have saved
- 24:33him a lot of time and effort. Well, I actually kind of wonder
- 24:37if it's like an A non protected interior where it's like you
- 24:41build a ship that's like the general and then you put a hole
- 24:44around it that has, you know, their deflector Shields and all
- 24:50that. So I'm kind of wondering if this
- 24:52is like a bear ship now that they're flying with no
- 24:54protection. That's why the 33 said don't
- 24:58ever do this because I bet you any money it's not protected
- 25:01whatsoever now. Yeah, now you're just fish in a
- 25:05barrel. I was cheering for Fern to hit
- 25:07that button. I really was.
- 25:09And I'm glad she did it. I'm glad.
- 25:11Yeah. They all grew in this episode
- 25:14and I really liked this episode because we got like kids have
- 25:18issues with each other. Yeah.
- 25:22There's a lot of pressure on all of them, so a lot of them aren't
- 25:26talking about. They're just trying to do their
- 25:28part to make this go well so they can all get go home.
- 25:30But there's a lot of stuff going on in between all of them.
- 25:34I think it's great to showcase that and and little Wim was so
- 25:40proud of himself to help make the replacement cartridge
- 25:44thingy. For he got to be useful for
- 25:47once, yes? I thought that was really nice.
- 25:51He basically saved her life and she had been feeling like, and
- 25:55he said like everything I I'm always misreading who's the bad
- 25:58guy. And like everything he said or
- 26:00contributes gets shit on and doesn't work out.
- 26:03Even his own dad, he asked his dad to read him a story and his
- 26:06dad's like, are you too old for that?
- 26:07Yeah, which I just never say that to a child.
- 26:12I would read you a story if you were 40 and asked me to read you
- 26:15a story. 100% my my mom read to me every single night and I and
- 26:20I really credit my love of reading and storytelling and
- 26:23fictional building and creativity in my brain from the
- 26:26nightly stories that I looked forward to.
- 26:28Never tell a kid they're you too busy to read.
- 26:31Same, my parents read to us, if we asked they would do it every
- 26:35time and sometimes they would just say before bed pick out a
- 26:37book and I the same. The way my parents read too.
- 26:41Made me excited to like hear the stories.
- 26:44It was, yeah. I think it's, I think it's going
- 26:49to be cool if Wim's going to be able to tell his own cool
- 26:53stories someday. Like he's going to have so many
- 26:56from this. It may not seem like the
- 26:59adventure he dreamed of. It's.
- 27:01It's dangerous out there and it's messy.
- 27:03And what else did he say? He listed all those things off
- 27:05where it just didn't. You know, it's not the the story
- 27:11that goes from A to B to C so fluently.
- 27:13And everyone's a hero and everything works out and all
- 27:15this stuff that's the real adventure is making your way
- 27:18through the garbage that is life.
- 27:22Yeah. And the quote side quests that
- 27:25come out of dealing with things in the moment.
- 27:27And if Wim goes back and retells his tale from A-Z just in this
- 27:33season, he has a hell of an adventure to tell.
- 27:36And I think that's why I really like Jod because he says that to
- 27:41him. Basically, he says you have this
- 27:43incredible imagination in this bullshit, terrible universe that
- 27:48we live in. And like he's got a very cynical
- 27:50perspective, but of course he does.
- 27:52He's an adult, so we can see what's going on.
- 27:55And these kids are little kids still living, you know, with
- 27:59their whim. Uses his stories as his comfort
- 28:03blanket, basically is safety blanket.
- 28:06And JAD is trying to say you can still exist in this universe
- 28:13with your little beautiful thoughts, but they can help you
- 28:16be creative in solving the problems that you're in.
- 28:21And then Wim does that and it's awesome.
- 28:23And I think that I love JAD as an unreliable narrator because
- 28:26you can't trust him, but it doesn't mean that he doesn't
- 28:29give really good advice sometimes to these kids.
- 28:31Everything he was spitting was truth.
- 28:34It wasn't wrapped it with a pretty bow, but it was cold,
- 28:37hard facts, you know? And can you trust it to not be
- 28:41him manipulating those kids? No.
- 28:43But can they still use it as good advice?
- 28:45Yes. So I think that's what makes it
- 28:47so much more interesting. I love an unreliable narrator
- 28:51that I like because then I get pulled in with it and then it's
- 28:55like, oh God, I don't know if I should be liking this, but I am.
- 28:59Well, it shows the heart of children as well because
- 29:02everyone they meet tells them don't trust this guy and they
- 29:06still find ways to trust him even after the kind of faulty
- 29:11way he's leading them through this journey.
- 29:14And I think it's going to, I think that's going to lead him
- 29:18to have a like a coming of age moment himself where I think
- 29:22he's going to side with the kids at some point.
- 29:25Maybe not this season because we only have two episodes, but
- 29:29maybe. I don't know.
- 29:30I don't know how they're going to wrap this up in 2.
- 29:33Kind of sad it's over. I know it's, it's like we've all
- 29:39come such a long way. We have.
- 29:45Well, I, I loved how the arguments that came up between
- 29:50the kids was not like what you see in a lot of kids stories
- 29:53where they kind of start fighting over in a petulant way.
- 29:56Like they start doing it and Fern is like, I'm not having
- 30:01this baby argument with you and puts a stop to the usual way you
- 30:05would see it in a movie or TV show.
- 30:08And I think it's way more truthful because kids don't
- 30:12express themselves the way adults do.
- 30:15And sometimes it takes getting out of your usual circle, like
- 30:19how they switched partners in this episode.
- 30:23I I loved when Neil was like, yeah, you have to accept that I
- 30:27have short legs. Like, I just cannot do what you
- 30:31can do. And then she found a way to be
- 30:34compassionate and find a solution.
- 30:36And, like, compromise is such a beautiful thing.
- 30:39If you've ever been in a relationship where you don't
- 30:41have compromise and then you have it with somebody, you
- 30:44realize, like, how deeply meaningful that is.
- 30:47And I love seeing that. That scene was one of the most
- 30:50mature scenes I've seen and it came out of two people that were
- 30:53under the age of 15, give or take.
- 30:57And a lot of grown adults won't compromise and they will pick on
- 31:02a person because of their differences or their
- 31:05shortcomings. And that's what KB said to Wim.
- 31:08Like Fern expects her to always be on top of things, always have
- 31:13the answer and and she's different.
- 31:16She's not the same as Fern and she wants to be acknowledged for
- 31:19that. Different.
- 31:20Just because she's different doesn't mean XYZ what Fern may
- 31:25think about her. And I think it's great.
- 31:28We have to honor the differences amongst people.
- 31:32They don't have to divide us. They should make us grow
- 31:34stronger together. And that is a those two scenes
- 31:38between those four kids is like what did it for me with that
- 31:41episode. It was just perfect.
- 31:43It was perfection in the kids. The actors and actresses.
- 31:46These little kids are doing a phenomenal job.
- 31:50So good. And I, I kind of liked that
- 31:53everyone had a valid perspective because KB wasn't telling Fern
- 31:58and wasn't giving Fern the benefit of the doubt either,
- 32:00right? And Fern was like, why didn't
- 32:02you just tell me? And KB was like, why can't she
- 32:05just see it? And they all have a valid
- 32:07argument. And I think the best kind of
- 32:11storytelling is where each character gets to grow and then
- 32:14they meet more in the middle. Especially with something like
- 32:17this, sometimes that's not satisfying or that's not what
- 32:19you're looking for. But with this, with Star Wars,
- 32:22we want that. Like we want them to become a
- 32:24more cohesive team. It's really rewarding.
- 32:27It is. And I said that when I first
- 32:28started these episodes. I said I want something deeper.
- 32:31I want some messiness while I'm getting it.
- 32:33So now I'm feeling pretty good. But you know, what's happening
- 32:37here with these kids is they're becoming a really good crew.
- 32:41Yeah, yeah, like. They're turning into.
- 32:44Yes, yes, that's like the last scene.
- 32:47They all have their purpose and their job and what they're good
- 32:52at. And it's the it's the four
- 32:55cohesive units of Han, Chewie, Leia, Luke.
- 32:59OK, like, if you want to, not exactly, but they're like a
- 33:04bunch of ragtags come together, don't know each other to begin
- 33:07with. And then they have become the
- 33:08A-Team. And I love that I love it.
- 33:12All these people thrown in together in a really scary
- 33:15situation and they're not quite vibing, you know, like even Luke
- 33:19and Han didn't quite get along, and Leia and Han didn't get
- 33:23along. Well, see, these are all adults,
- 33:25right? And they didn't communicate with
- 33:26each other what they wanted or what they needed or what, what's
- 33:29going on with everything. And then we're seeing real life
- 33:34issues with these children and, and all of this happened when
- 33:39JOD was removed and they were allowed to be the four
- 33:43individuals that they are. Yeah.
- 33:45So I think Jod's going to encounter a completely different
- 33:48crew, if you will, when he encounters them next.
- 33:51I think so too because they're not only like this whole episode
- 33:55is about them like becoming cohesive but independent at the
- 33:59same time. They all have each have a
- 34:01different strength and now they're supporting each other in
- 34:05that strength while working independently.
- 34:08It's like when she told Neil like, take the wheel, like I'm
- 34:11one of them was going to do thrusters and the other was
- 34:13going to do steering or whatever it was.
- 34:15And it's like, I loved that. It was very exciting to watch it
- 34:20all starting to come together. And then Wynn was like, I'm
- 34:22going to go up to the gunnership.
- 34:24It was like he decided for himself, yeah, he did.
- 34:26Nobody told him. He just went.
- 34:28Because he knew he could do it. So there's a there's a level of
- 34:31trust that's building there. And I bet you any money when
- 34:33they see Jaw, they're going to tell him we don't need you
- 34:35anymore. We don't need you or the Droid.
- 34:37You can. You can just be about yourself
- 34:39and we don't need you, which I think is great.
- 34:41It's so great. I think it's going to be really
- 34:43rewarding. Yeah, I love it.
- 34:51All right. So our question for you, not
- 34:54related to Skeleton Crew, what kind of pie do you think is Obi
- 34:59Wan Kenobi's favorite pie? We need to know this is a very
- 35:03important question we decided to ask so.
- 35:07And do you think he would like eat a whole pie by himself or
- 35:10just reserve himself to one piece as a treat every now and
- 35:14then? I feel like he would be a closet
- 35:16pie eater. Would take a whole pie back to
- 35:18his quarters and eat the. This is if it's a particularly
- 35:22bad mission with Anakin. He's eaten the whole pie.
- 35:26Just one of those brownie pies, which is a brownie and a pie
- 35:29crust. Who wouldn't eat the whole
- 35:32thing? I think that's called chess pie,
- 35:35which kind of makes sense. He's eating it regardless.
- 35:41So anyway, let us do your thoughts on that very important
- 35:44topic. And for our next episode, we are
- 35:48going to discuss the final two episodes of Skeleton Crew.
- 35:50We're going to see how this whole thing wraps up.
- 35:53And also just as a footnote, we are going to be issuing that
- 35:58episode bi weekly like we have been, but it'll be later in that
- 36:03week. So not Tuesday like we usually
- 36:05do. It'll be later in that week, but
- 36:06the still the same week. So yeah, just a little bit
- 36:09later, because we have a lot going on in the calendar, so.
- 36:13Yeah, a little busy. All right.
- 36:18In our last episode we discussed Skeleton Crew obviously, and we
- 36:22asked folks what their thoughts were about JAD specifically.
- 36:26But then also on Instagram I kind of asked how people were
- 36:29liking the show so far, what were their thoughts, and we had
- 36:31some really cool responses. Z said I think JAD is a
- 36:35scoundrel, but will probably turn good slash be redeemed at
- 36:38the end because Neil is too precious for JAD not to.
- 36:43This is true. OBT novel when?
- 36:50With three question marks said, Can you guess what this comments
- 36:55going to be about? Part of me hopes Jot is actually
- 36:57Corky and that his force sensitivity means he's a Kenobi,
- 37:01but I know deep down that we can't have nice things in the
- 37:04fandom. That is also a good theory.
- 37:08I didn't think of that. But we can't have nice things.
- 37:11Nope. Or maybe we can, I don't know.
- 37:15Probably not. And the Jedi Master Adam said my
- 37:20inner child is loving this show. My theory on Jude's character is
- 37:23he was a kid at the order but never took the trials and left
- 37:27to follow the beat of his own drum.
- 37:29Thus quote not a Jedi, but was trained in the Force.
- 37:34Yeah. I mean, it's kind of going that
- 37:36way. Yeah.
- 37:38And it's all like it's basically everyone's kind of in keeping
- 37:41with what we have talked about already in the show.
- 37:44So I I can't wait to see, I hope we get some sort of answer in
- 37:48season 1. But now I'm kind of now that we
- 37:50only have two episodes left, I don't know if we're going to get
- 37:54any resolution here. Yet we can't have nice things
- 37:56that includes. Answers true, Very true.
