  Speaker 6: been fun. This is probably one of the greatest times

  Speaker 6: of year for me, man, because I can't bust out

  Speaker 6: in a baseball conversation back in Shreveport, So I get

  Speaker 4: And Todd you were actually like you were with Coastal

  Speaker 4: Carolina all the way going back to regionals. I mean

  Speaker 4: that was the regional that you were on, and so

  Speaker 4: you saw that baseball team make their way through that regional.

  Speaker 4: They go to Auburn, Alabama, they sweep a really good
• 2:25
  Speaker 4: Auburn team and look, they get to LSU winning twenty
• 2:28
  Speaker 4: six games in a row.

  Speaker 5: So like, I want to kind of.

  Speaker 4: Get your thoughts maybe on what you thought before the series,

  Speaker 4: and then obviously get what you thought after the series.

  Speaker 6: By social origionally, you're right, baseball is all fitching. And

  Speaker 6: so what I figured out and I went and looked

  Speaker 6: because I have that kind of time, I went and

  Speaker 6: looked at all the national champions over the last century.

  Speaker 6: If you have highering a four and a half as
• 2:50
  Speaker 6: a team, then you don't win here. That's coming into

  Speaker 6: o Maha. That was Murray State, Louisville, and Arizona. They
• 2:57
  Speaker 6: had a five north of a five year right, so
• 2:59
  Speaker 6: they're out, So then it eliminates it down to five.

  Speaker 6: Coastal had the best era in the field, so they
• 3:06
  Speaker 6: could pitch it, and they had three great starters, a

  Speaker 6: couple of bullpen pieces. They created a bunch of havoc offensively,

  Speaker 6: and they came in with a lot of confidence. Haven't
• 3:17
  Speaker 6: won twenty five twenty four in a row before they
• 3:19
  Speaker 6: got here, so they were good. Yeah, and you know,
• 3:23
  Speaker 6: Oregon State played on the road thirty five games because
• 3:26
  Speaker 6: of the Pac twelve displacement and everything's going on, So
• 3:29
  Speaker 6: they were road tested, So there were some great stories here.

  Speaker 6: And of course Arkansas, my goodness, after what happened twenty eighteen,
• 3:36
  Speaker 6: everybody's pulling for him and it just got worse. But

  Speaker 6: they had a fantastic year second in the SEC, had
• 3:43
  Speaker 6: a sixteen teams, but heava Lloyd the short stop and
• 3:45
  Speaker 6: win the Golden Spikes. So Arkansas was a lot of
• 3:48
  Speaker 6: fun to watch this year.

  Speaker 7: Yeah, till we had a just since Game one of
• 3:53
  Speaker 7: the College World Series, just a great World Series and
• 3:56
  Speaker 7: then then National Championship Series. We had two teams undefeated

  Speaker 7: going up into that point in the World Series. What's

  Speaker 7: the We talked about the pitching. You just talked about

  Speaker 7: the e R but timely hitting. It seems to be

  Speaker 7: the theme for LSU. Guys one through nine, everybody had

  Speaker 7: a moment at some point during this World Series. They

  Speaker 7: take us through a complete team win from top to bottom.

  Speaker 7: Tell us about like the mindset and what you saw

  Speaker 6: That's a great point. And look, LSU had the two

  Speaker 6: best pitchers in the country, so that helps. But you

  Speaker 6: don't have to bring out fifteen hits, you just get

  Speaker 6: them in the right spot. That's why the runners in

  Speaker 6: scoring position are ISP stat is so important. You get

  Speaker 6: five hits in a game, but you get all five

  Speaker 6: of them with a with a guy that got on

  Speaker 6: by a walk or an error or something, and you win.

  Speaker 6: And then you have the pitching that can back that up.

  Speaker 6: And that's what LSU did. They If you'd have told

  Speaker 6: me we were gonna have two home runs yesterday and

  Speaker 6: LSU was not going to hit either one of them, yeah,

  Speaker 6: and they were going to win, I would have said,

  Speaker 6: you're crazy. But they did it by manufacturing. They could

  Speaker 6: do just about everything. Skip Boerdman always used to talk about,

  Speaker 6: if I have more bullets in my gun than you do,
• 5:12
  Speaker 6: I'm gonna win. And LSU just seemed to do everything right.

  Speaker 6: It played great defense, pitching, they didn't walk a lot
• 5:19
  Speaker 6: of people. That was their problem in the regional when
• 5:21
  Speaker 6: they lost to Little Rock. But since that game till now,
• 5:24
  Speaker 6: they cleaned all that up and pounded the strike zone
• 5:27
  Speaker 6: and just man, they had amazing runs.

  Speaker 5: Yeah, and that's what we were talking about earlier.

  Speaker 4: I know Coastal's coach got kicked out of the game

  Speaker 4: incredibly early first inning, and that's going to be a storyline,

  Speaker 4: a narrative, but LSU didn't win because Coastal's coach got
• 5:43
  Speaker 4: thrown out of the game. LCH won because they didn't
• 5:46
  Speaker 4: make the errors Coastal Carolina did. LSU came through with
• 5:50
  Speaker 4: runners in scoring position in Coastal's hitters did not. Now
• 5:54
  Speaker 4: what you got on the mound obviously from Anderson and Iantin.

  Speaker 4: I mean, you throw three pitchers in the championship series,

  Speaker 4: that's incredible. But LSU won because they did those things
• 6:04
  Speaker 4: you're talking about, Todd. They took care of business on defense.

  Speaker 4: Whenever the moment was there, this team, even if it
• 6:10
  Speaker 4: was somebody that was o for their last eleven they
• 6:12
  Speaker 4: always felt like they came through in that moment.

  Speaker 6: That's pretty cool when you get to this point. And

  Speaker 6: I did it for a lot of years and during

  Speaker 6: the course of the year. They always say that baseball

  Speaker 6: is a team sport played by a bunch of individuals,

  Speaker 6: and so individually you're trying to get yours and you're

  Speaker 6: you know, you are selfish in a way during the
• 6:30
  Speaker 6: course of the year, and it plays out. You know
• 6:32
  Speaker 6: that it helps the team if you play well, But

  Speaker 6: when you get here, all that selfishness just goes away

  Speaker 6: and it doesn't matter if you're oh for thirty, it
• 6:40
  Speaker 6: doesn't matter if you've had a bad year. Jay Shores

  Speaker 6: didn't have a great year, but it came out within
• 6:44
  Speaker 6: four times here in Coswald series and just dominated. I
• 6:47
  Speaker 6: mean it gave up a few runs against Arkansas, but
• 6:50
  Speaker 6: one hundred miles an hour from six to eight. I
• 6:52
  Speaker 6: mean that's like God just reaching down and touching somebody
• 6:55
  Speaker 6: on the shoulder and staying here you go. I mean,
• 6:57
  Speaker 6: just the talent in this kid is unbelievab. And you're right,

  Speaker 6: three pitchers, so two starters, and then Chase Shores for

  Speaker 6: two wins in the College Will Suits final. We won't

  Speaker 6: see that again in our lifetime. I mean, that was

  Speaker 6: just incredible by the starters and then Chase and you
• 7:10
  Speaker 6: know Case and Evans is their best dude, and he
• 7:14
  Speaker 6: didn't get the pitch, so are one of the best.

  Speaker 6: So you know, it's just just just crazy how that works.

  Speaker 6: And again, just so happy for Jay Johnson and Nate

  Speaker 6: Yeski and Josh Jordan and Wanica and everybody else in

  Speaker 6: that staff. And how good of a job. And now

  Speaker 6: look nil money and everybody wants to play for LSU
• 7:33
  Speaker 6: in the country. You know, it's a it's a Ferrari.

  Speaker 6: It's a Ferrari man, and you can definitely wreck the Ferrari.

  Speaker 6: And they've done a fantastic job of keeping that ship,

  Speaker 6: you know, on top of everybody else in the country,

  Speaker 1: Yeah, let's talk.

  Speaker 7: Let's keep talking about that Ferrari because this Ferrari was

  Speaker 7: built by Jay Johnson. Two championships in three years, and

  Speaker 7: it seems like during this entire series, I mean, LSU

  Speaker 7: won eight straight games. Since they're lost in Game two

  Speaker 7: versus Little right, it seemed like every move that he made,
• 8:04
  Speaker 7: every little lineup change, every pitching decision, every dh that
• 8:09
  Speaker 7: that came in the game, everything he did, every button
• 8:12
  Speaker 7: he pushed was the correct one that worked out. And

  Speaker 7: I know, coaching a lot of good coaches, a lot

  Speaker 7: of things is a combination of like preparation, knowing the

  Speaker 7: game plan, and then a.

  Speaker 1: Little bit of luck on your side.

  Speaker 7: But when it happens, every time you make a move

  Speaker 7: it's the right move, it shows you something.

  Speaker 7: he has built here and what to kind of like

  Speaker 6: Well, Jay Johnson knows baseball that's number one. He was

  Speaker 6: at Arizona they made it to the final in twenty
• 8:39
  Speaker 6: sixteen and got beat by Coastal. So he has experience
• 8:43
  Speaker 6: in this high, high intense situation here in Omaha. And
• 8:49
  Speaker 6: then ultimately he's just so meticulous and you gotta have
• 8:53
  Speaker 6: energy to do that, right, You've got to love it.

  Speaker 6: So you got to dive in and you got to
• 8:56
  Speaker 6: like look at every little detail. That's why you saw
• 8:59
  Speaker 6: a movement in the batting order, because he has it
• 9:02
  Speaker 6: down to a science and just grinds it out and
• 9:07
  Speaker 6: it takes energy. And Jay Johnson has baseball energy. You know.

  Speaker 6: I don't know if he knows a whole lot about
• 9:13
  Speaker 6: the world going around him, but he locked in and
• 9:18
  Speaker 6: that's what you love about him is that he just
• 9:21
  Speaker 6: he probably he is the hardest, one of the hardest

  Speaker 6: workers in the country, and he knows the game. And

  Speaker 6: it's just a perfect, perfect combination for this program.

  Speaker 5: Tod, what does this mean for you personally?

  Speaker 4: I mean, you were one of certainly you know, the

  Speaker 4: pillars of LSU baseball and Flynn and I talked about

  Speaker 4: this in twenty nineteen whenever LSU was on their run,

  Speaker 4: you know, being a part of a national championship and
• 9:45
  Speaker 4: being so happy for those players that are going out
• 9:48
  Speaker 4: there and they're holding up the standard of LSU football

  Speaker 4: for us, like for you to see LSU do what

  Speaker 4: they do, knowing that you know, you were a part

  Speaker 4: of those early days right when you know, before you
• 9:58
  Speaker 4: they were getting to omahall couldn't quite figure it out,

  Speaker 4: and then you'll start winning national championships. What's it like

  Speaker 4: for you to see this program where it is right

  Speaker 4: now and winning these national championships.

  Speaker 6: Yeah, we talked about that a little bit on the

  Speaker 6: show last night. I mean Ben McDonald and Mike Binko's

  Speaker 6: now they head coach at Old Miss. You know, kind

  Speaker 6: of set the standard. Nineteen eighty nine they got here

  Speaker 6: to o Mall. They didn't win it, but they broke
• 10:19
  Speaker 6: the they broke the door down. It is nineteen ninety

  Speaker 6: one with Chad oj and Paul byrd Lyle Mouton and

  Speaker 6: Tooki Johnson and just all those dudes that got it done.

  Speaker 6: basketball arena handing out schedules, you know, everywhere and then

  Speaker 6: didn't do a thing, but I'm raising my hand like

  Speaker 6: I'm you know, overly excited and yeah yeah, and they're screaming,

  Speaker 6: you know, and yelling, and I thought, this is a

  Speaker 6: standard man right here, you know. And so we knew

  Speaker 6: what we were up against. And then we of course

  Speaker 6: get it done in nineteen ninety three, and then went

  Speaker 6: back in ninety four and got beat and then on

  Speaker 6: down the line they won it in ninety six, ninety seven,

  Speaker 6: two thousand, two thousand and nine with Pulmonarias. So there

  Speaker 6: was a little gap in there between two thousand nine
• 11:06
  Speaker 6: twenty twenty three. But it's not easy, like we're making it.

  Speaker 6: the last man standing at three hundred Division one teams.

  Speaker 6: And you guys know, I mean, it's just I didn't

  Speaker 6: feel a small part of it, like I'm sure you

  Speaker 6: guys do with the football program, and it's just I'm

  Speaker 7: Yeah, we understand that feeling completely because you you're part

  Speaker 7: of something that's the foundation that is a historic run.

  Speaker 7: I mean, eight national Championships is an incredible feat. I

  Speaker 7: wanted to ask you about just kind of like the

  Speaker 7: mentality of a hitter when something so Coastal Carolina Jacob Morrison,

  Speaker 7: they start their number one on day two, in game
• 11:53
  Speaker 7: number two and a couple of innings into I think
• 11:56
  Speaker 7: it's the fourth inning, he started having the communication issues.

  Speaker 7: Look like it just completely got him out of the
• 12:01
  Speaker 7: flow of the game as a as as a hitter.

  Speaker 7: Do you kind of feel that, do you as it

  Speaker 7: kind of like blood in the water a little bit,

  Speaker 7: because as soon as he had the communication issues, he

  Speaker 7: completely got out of rhythm. And then we started ringing

  Speaker 7: off some runs hits, and I think he walked the

  Speaker 7: bases loaded. So like, just tell me about that. Is

  Speaker 7: there something that is there a feeling that you can

  Speaker 7: get as a hitter when something gets thrown off like that?

  Speaker 6: I mean, you know, like when the coach Kenshaw is
• 12:28
  Speaker 6: thrown in the first everybody thinks that that's going to
• 12:31
  Speaker 6: rally the team, Like everybody's gonna get so excited, let's go, Well,

  Speaker 6: you got three hours left.
• 12:36
  Speaker 1: Maintain that.

  Speaker 6: Maintain that is not realistic. And then in addition, I've
• 12:41
  Speaker 6: never understood that you guys can use that. Probably not you, Matt,

  Speaker 6: but but Jake could probably use that that run through

  Speaker 6: a brick wall mentality, like let's get pumped up and
• 12:51
  Speaker 6: let's go, you know, as a half back fullback. But
• 12:54
  Speaker 6: you can't use that at the plate. You can't really

  Speaker 6: use that throwing baseball. It's more like golf, like you

  Speaker 6: just have to stay controlled, you know. And it felt

  Speaker 6: like Coaster was just out of control. Yeah, the coach

  Speaker 6: was fired up from the very beginning. One pitch steed

  Speaker 6: him off, you know, and then and then Jacob Morrison's

  Speaker 6: looking at third base and Josh Jordan he thinks he's

  Speaker 6: stealing signs and just all these distractions. So it's a

  Speaker 6: great point, like I just felt like they were thinking
• 13:20
  Speaker 6: about everything else except for what was going on on
• 13:22
  Speaker 6: the field. And that was the first inning, so you know.

  Speaker 6: And by the way, Jacob Morrison had great numbers twelve

  Speaker 6: and h two point ERA, but he wasn't dominant, he
• 13:32
  Speaker 6: wasn't overpowering. He had less strikeouts than any fits. You know,

  Speaker 6: he wasn't going to get a lot of swing and misses.

  Speaker 6: He's six to eight on a ten inch mound with
• 13:39
  Speaker 6: that release point, and he got eight eight foot of
• 13:41
  Speaker 6: tilt on that fastball coming at you, so he could
• 13:45
  Speaker 6: get some weak outs. But I didn't think for a
• 13:48
  Speaker 6: minute that he was going to be able to do
• 13:49
  Speaker 6: with Kate Anderson and Anthony Irons and can do.

  Speaker 4: Man, it was the beginning of that game and all

  Speaker 4: the things you just laid out, like, I don't know

  Speaker 4: that I've ever really seen anything like that, and I

  Speaker 4: hate to see any coach get thrown out in a

  Speaker 4: national championship game. But that turned into a circus like

  Speaker 4: quick and look, the first base coach is always going

  Speaker 4: to get thrown out. Like when you start arguing balls

  Speaker 4: and strikes from a first base coach, you get like
• 14:14
  Speaker 4: no leeway.

  Speaker 5: The head coach gets some.

  Speaker 4: But have you ever I mean you play baseball, cover
• 14:19
  Speaker 4: baseball your entire life, have you ever seen anything like
• 14:22
  Speaker 4: that with a game like it could be like even

  Speaker 4: a high school state championship whatever, like everything on the line,
• 14:27
  Speaker 4: and that's how it happens.

  Speaker 1: Uh uh.

  Speaker 6: I don't think I've ever seen two coaches in the

  Speaker 6: same time. And that's what we love about the sport
• 14:35
  Speaker 6: is because no matter how nuts you've seen, like something

  Speaker 6: new happens the first base coach, like kind of walked
• 14:40
  Speaker 6: by the umpire and like under his breath said something
• 14:43
  Speaker 6: and got tossed because they're not allowed to communicate with
• 14:46
  Speaker 6: the umpires at all, like the head coach that has
• 14:49
  Speaker 6: to get it done. And then you know the deal,
• 14:52
  Speaker 6: Schnall left the dugout to argue, and you're not allowed
• 14:55
  Speaker 6: to do that either, and that's why he got I mean,
• 14:57
  Speaker 6: they start packing on suspensions on him, like he's he
• 15:00
  Speaker 6: missed his opening daylight next year, you know, because he suspended.
• 15:03
  Speaker 6: It's just it's just chaotic and just didn't feel like
• 15:06
  Speaker 6: the Coastal twenty six wins wins in a row control
• 15:11
  Speaker 6: deal that we've seen, you know, and just got out
• 15:15
  Speaker 6: of hand. And and you know, Small's a bulldog man.

  Speaker 6: I mean he'll go after you, and I think his
• 15:20
  Speaker 6: team takes on that personality and that's why they won
• 15:22
  Speaker 6: so many games. But in this one it had the

  Speaker 6: reverse effect.

  Speaker 4: I mean yeah, I mean that entire coaching staff looked
• 15:29
  Speaker 4: like they were ready for some slow pitch softball.

  Speaker 5: I mean they had that look to him. I mean

  Speaker 5: they were coming out of the dugout high So.

  Speaker 4: Dodd, you're the man, truly appreciate it. Safe travels back

  Speaker 4: to the Port City. Man, you do a fantastic job
