Sussex County Hit by Straight-Line Winds | Dover News

Severe straight-line winds, not tornadoes, tore through Sussex County on Saturday, with gusts hitting 75 mph—mostly in Laurel, Bethel, and Seaford. Storms crossed the Nanticoke River and Maryland border, downing trees and power lines, and wreaked havoc along Woodland Ferry Road and Cypress Pointe. A barn on Oneals Road lost its roof where the strongest winds were recorded, with the last major tree damage near Mount Zion Road. Thankfully, no injuries or deaths were reported.
