- 0:06But the Fremont troll isn't the only giant troll in the Pacific Northwest anymore.
- 0:11Ooh!
- 0:13Yeah!
- 0:14Artists Thomas Dambo and the Scan Design Foundation are building 6, 12 to 20-foot tall wooden
- 0:23trolls across the Pacific Northwest.
- 0:26They look pretty cute!
- 0:28[Music]
- 0:38Hi, Caitlyn!
- 0:40Hi, Cassie!
- 0:42Hi, creepy people!
- 0:44Hello!
- 0:45If you're new to our creepy corner of the world, this is PNW Haunts and Homicides, where we chat about true crime, paranormal, and all things, creepy and weird and spooky in the Pacific Northwest.
- 0:57And we also do a tarot reading at the end of every episode for a little bit of deeper insight into our topic.
- 1:06So, make sure you stick around if you're into that.
- 1:10You guys are into that, right?
- 1:12Definitely.
- 1:13Okay.
- 1:14If they're not, I don't care.
- 1:15I'm into it!
- 1:16We're doing it, okay?
- 1:18It's at the end.
- 1:19You can skip it if you must, but it's fun.
- 1:21It's a good time.
- 1:22You should just stay.
- 1:23It is October.
- 1:25Now.
- 1:26It is smack dab full on in the middle of spooky season, not just starting, because I feel like spooky season starts beginning of September.
- 1:36Yeah.
- 1:37So we're like fully into it, though.
- 1:39Now, we are fully into it.
- 1:41And you might see a little bit later on the tarot video, "How fully in we are."
- 1:46Oh.
- 1:47Because we have some pumpkin beers.
- 1:49We're gonna be drunk and...
- 1:50Fank!
- 1:51We got that night owl.
- 1:52I forget who makes it.
- 1:54Elysian?
- 1:55Elysian.
- 1:56Yeah.
- 1:57In the spirit of spooky season?
- 2:00Yes.
- 2:01In the spirit of spooky season and Halloween coming up this episode is very on theme.
- 2:07It has ties to Halloween.
- 2:09Oh, that kind of rent.
- 2:11Ooh.
- 2:12I like when I rhyme.
- 2:13Mm-hmm.
- 2:14You ready?
- 2:15Yeah.
- 2:16This topic is gonna be really, really terrifying.
- 2:20What?
- 2:21Really only for one group in particular.
- 2:25I sincerely hope that no Billy Goats are listening to this episode today because we're
- 2:31talking trolls.
- 2:33Are you kidding me?
- 2:36We have literally talked about Goats and trolls independently.
- 2:42Yeah.
- 2:43I cannot.
- 2:45You remember when you brought up the trolls earlier and I was like, "You're gonna shit."
- 2:49I...
- 2:51This is the closest I've ever been.
- 2:54Yeah.
- 2:55Anyway.
- 2:56So, Caitlyn is a lot more psychic in witchy than we all thought.
- 3:01Agreed.
- 3:02I think.
- 3:04Okay.
- 3:05So, we're not talking about actual trolls.
- 3:08But this troll does live under a bridge.
- 3:11Oh.
- 3:12More specifically under the north side of the Aurora Bridge in Seattle, Washington.
- 3:18Well, this is known as the Fremont troll despite the fact that it's not under the Fremont
- 3:24bridge, but it's in the same area.
- 3:26The neighborhood is called free-mont.
- 3:28So, that's why it's named the Fremont troll.
- 3:31So, don't get confused and go trip-trapping on the wrong bridge.
- 3:35Okay.
- 3:37This one I feel like is kind of fair to ask if you've been to because it's not haunted.
- 3:42That...
- 3:43Yes, that's correct.
- 3:44As far as I know, because I have been there and I was not made aware of any sort of haunting.
- 3:52Yeah.
- 3:53Not that I know of either.
- 3:55I visited very recently with my bitch Brittany when we went for blink.
- 4:01And I call her my bitch because in Supernatural, they call each other bitch and jerk.
- 4:08And so she's bitch and I'm jerk.
- 4:11So it's not just like a bitch type of thing.
- 4:14Yeah.
- 4:15It's like a real solid friendship.
- 4:18Bitch.
- 4:19Yeah, bitch.
- 4:20Okay.
- 4:21This work of art is a Seattle must.
- 4:23The famous landmark has its own documentary called The Hall of Giants, The Story of Fremont
- 4:30and its troll.
- 4:31Ooh.
- 4:32Don't get too excited though.
- 4:34I tried to find it because I really wanted to watch it and I couldn't find it.
- 4:39No.
- 4:40Not even like to buy.
- 4:41I don't know.
- 4:42I couldn't find it.
- 4:43If anyone else wants to search harder on the internet for me, I do.
- 4:47So I had to settle for the articles that just talked about the documentary, unfortunately.
- 4:52But I even DMed their Facebook page.
- 4:55Really?
- 4:56Is there a way to watch this?
- 4:57And they never DM me back.
- 5:00They were like, go away.
- 5:02They're like, why do you want this old documentary about this troll?
- 5:07You fucking weird.
- 5:09Yeah.
- 5:10Maybe I have to answer their riddles three.
- 5:14Yeah.
- 5:15Well, since it's not haunted, why am I talking about it?
- 5:19Yeah.
- 5:20Because it's cool and it's kind of creepy and historic.
- 5:22So there.
- 5:23Love that.
- 5:24That's all the reason I need.
- 5:26I mean, I'm with you.
- 5:28This 18 foot hairy troll is Hulk smashing a Volkswagen old model beetle and has one of
- 5:36the hubcaps for an eye.
- 5:39Did you know that?
- 5:40Wait, what?
- 5:41Yeah, you're going to have to look at again.
- 5:42Maybe you should keep that open.
- 5:44Oh, boy.
- 5:46This was actually inspired by illustrations of a shiny eyed troll in the child fairy tale,
- 5:52the three Billy Goat's Graph.
- 5:56Although sort of odd, the effect is pretty grungy cool, I think.
- 6:01It fits Seattle well.
- 6:03Love it.
- 6:04The troll is meant to be interactive.
- 6:06You can climb on him, walk up behind his head, which I did, take pictures with him, even
- 6:14get married in front of him.
- 6:16Caitlyn, wink, wink.
- 6:17One, three.
- 6:18Thank you, wedding venue.
- 6:20Okay.
- 6:21All right.
- 6:22I'm listening.
- 6:23Yeah.
- 6:24I guess someone got married in front of the troll, which is kind of cool, I think.
- 6:29The purpose of the public art was to shine a light on this dark corner of Seattle, where
- 6:34it was just too easy to hide all kinds of shady underbridge shenanigans.
- 6:40Oh, boy.
- 6:42Y'all know what I mean.
- 6:44You know what happens under bridges.
- 6:46You can picture it.
- 6:48Okay.
- 6:49The Fremont Arts Council was created because of the amount of artists living in the area.
- 6:56Their previous project, waiting for the interurban, seemed to be a hit.
- 7:01I didn't know what an interurban was.
- 7:04It's like a bus streetcar type of interurban transportation.
- 7:07Well, I looked up.
- 7:09Well, I looked up.
- 7:10Okay.
- 7:11The six life-sized aluminum people and one dog waiting at a streetcar stop got so much
- 7:18public interaction that they wanted to try using public art to spruce up the Fremont
- 7:24neighborhood.
- 7:25By far, the biggest eye sore in the neighborhood was the space under where the bridge meets
- 7:31the ground.
- 7:32Okay.
- 7:33Yeah.
- 7:34Because it's like that back corner, like the space that's tucked underneath the bridge.
- 7:40Yeah.
- 7:41Yeah.
- 7:42Because that's where all like the shady stuff can be sort of the shady underbridge shenanigans.
- 7:47Yeah.
- 7:48Yeah.
- 7:49She can't make it any more clear people.
- 7:52There was constant garbage that would collect there.
- 7:55And they thought maybe if the space was already filled with something, it couldn't get
- 7:59filled up anymore with trash, right?
- 8:02Yep.
- 8:03Or shenanigans.
- 8:04Shenanigans.
- 8:05He's already pulled over.
- 8:06He can't pull over any further.
- 8:08Like, he's already filled.
- 8:10You can't fill him up anymore.
- 8:13I love that.
- 8:14So the Fremont Arts Council held a contest.
- 8:17Artists would submit drawings for a piece of art to be built under the bridge.
- 8:22And the public would vote.
- 8:26And they voted troll for president.
- 8:29Yeah.
- 8:30It's not the first time.
- 8:32Right.
- 8:33The project was submitted by Steve Badanes, along with his girlfriend at the time, Donna
- 8:38Walter, and two of his architecture students, Will Martin and Ross Whitehead.
- 8:44They only had $15,000.
- 8:48And Donna personally raised awareness and money for the giant undertaking.
- 8:54Undertaking.
- 8:56Get it.
- 8:57This was Steve's very first statue, and he says the tight budget allowed them to be more
- 9:03creative with their design decisions.
- 9:06That makes sense.
- 9:07Yeah.
- 9:08Mr. Design Build Professor.
- 9:10Such a professional.
- 9:12Prostigious Pacific Northwest University man.
- 9:17That's pretty cool though, that has very first piece was like this big famous public.
- 9:23Yeah.
- 9:24Yeah.
- 9:25Crazy.
- 9:26It's an installation.
- 9:27It really is.
- 9:28I love it.
- 9:29There's some really cool details about it too.
- 9:33Like using an actual old wrecked VW beetle.
- 9:36What?
- 9:37Yeah, that's not just a sculpted car.
- 9:40That's a real car in there.
- 9:43Shut up.
- 9:46They also want to include something special inside the car.
- 9:50So they had children from all around Seattle come and put stuff inside like a time capsule.
- 9:56You know, it's a little different now aren't you?
- 9:58I always loved him.
- 10:00The whole community was allowed to help in the construction, which really brought a lot
- 10:05of people together.
- 10:07And just a few months later on Halloween of 1990, the fremont troll was completed.
- 10:13Whoa.
- 10:15And every year from then on was celebrated as Troll-o-ween.
- 10:19Troll-o-ween?
- 10:20Troll-o-ween.
- 10:21I'm going to go to Troll-o-ween.
- 10:23Oh my god.
- 10:24They have like a big celebration.
- 10:26Seriously?
- 10:27Yeah.
- 10:28I want to go.
- 10:29I really want to go.
- 10:30I really want to go.
- 10:32What's going on?
- 10:33Can we just fuck it on?
- 10:34Just go to the Troll-o-ween.
- 10:36Hold on.
- 10:37I'm pulling up the calendar.
- 10:38Hold that thought.
- 10:39It's on a Tuesday I think.
- 10:40On a fucking Tuesday.
- 10:42What?
- 10:43Live from Troll-o-ween.
- 10:45God damn it Drake.
- 10:46All right.
- 10:47All future plans.
- 10:48Anyways, moving on.
- 10:49In the years to come.
- 10:52Maybe we'll get paid to go there.
- 10:54[LAUGHTER]
- 10:57They cleaned up the area but obviously couldn't completely
- 11:00eradicate crime.
- 11:02Unfortunately.
- 11:04People broke into the statues car many times assuming
- 11:08that there was more than just priceless memories inside.
- 11:12What?
- 11:13People saw.
- 11:14I know.
- 11:15They really do.
- 11:17They're like unattended car must be valuables inside even
- 11:20those part of the art installation.
- 11:23These children must have put valuables in there for their time
- 11:28capsule.
- 11:29Yes.
- 11:30Children are well known for donating their valuables to art
- 11:34installations.
- 11:35Smart.
- 11:36Not just a hat rack over there.
- 11:40Boy.
- 11:41Once inside the car though, they realize that there's nothing
- 11:44of material value besides an Elvis bust that was stolen.
- 11:49What?
- 11:50That was the only thing stolen.
- 11:51They're like, this has got to be worth something.
- 11:54Oh my god.
- 11:55Or Elvis bust.
- 11:57Seriously.
- 11:59Amongst the items is rumored to be some of Kurt Cobain's ashes.
- 12:06What?
- 12:07Just a gross rumour.
- 12:09It's kind of ridiculous to me because he died in '94.
- 12:13I was going to say.
- 12:14They would have had to purposely break back in to put that in there.
- 12:18Right.
- 12:19So I'm going to do it through this and say false.
- 12:22False.
- 12:23Wow.
- 12:24So Kurt's ashes are definitely not in there.
- 12:29But someone else's are.
- 12:30What?
- 12:32A dear friend to the project, Sandy Smith, sadly passed away
- 12:37before it was completed and she requested
- 12:39to still be part of the free-mantral even
- 12:41after her passing.
- 12:43So they put a little of her ashes in the car.
- 12:47Isn't that so sweet?
- 12:49And I don't think she, like, hunts the place or anything.
- 12:52She's, if anything, she looks down at it,
- 12:55like, smiling and happy.
- 12:56She doesn't like scare people there.
- 12:58Definitely.
- 12:59Definitely.
- 13:01But I feel like I'm understanding better now
- 13:05why this doesn't look like a car because they've probably
- 13:10had to cement this so that people couldn't break in
- 13:15or put other illicit things that shouldn't be in it into it.
- 13:20Yeah.
- 13:21Eek.
- 13:22That makes sense.
- 13:23So do you think they put cement over it?
- 13:24Like, it used to be naked?
- 13:27I'm kind of like kind of side-ying the picture here.
- 13:30Does the car still look like that?
- 13:31This is a picture from seven months ago.
- 13:34Oh, OK.
- 13:35They fill it with cement.
- 13:36That's what I think.
- 13:38Yeah.
- 13:38It doesn't look like the whole car is necessarily
- 13:42coded in cement.
- 13:44It looks more like maybe they took out the glass
- 13:48and filled it with cement.
- 13:50The cement that's in the window frames.
- 13:54OK.
- 13:54Yeah, I don't know if that was there originally or not.
- 13:57Yeah.
- 13:58You'd have to look at old pictures and see.
- 14:00Challenge accepted.
- 14:02Yeah.
- 14:03A couple pictures.
- 14:05But the break-ins aren't the only shady shenanigans.
- 14:08I look like how many times did I say shenanigans?
- 14:10Shenanigans.
- 14:11Shenanigans.
- 14:13So the break-ins aren't the only shady shenanigans
- 14:16to take place in the neighborhood around the troll.
- 14:20What?
- 14:20In '98, a bus tragically crashed into an apartment building
- 14:26very near the troll.
- 14:28In 2013, some unsuspecting residents of a nearby home
- 14:33woke two bunch of sheep schools in their yard
- 14:35that appeared to still have blood on them.
- 14:38What?
- 14:38Why?
- 14:39No.
- 14:40I don't think either of these things have anything
- 14:43to do with the troll.
- 14:44No.
- 14:45Unless he's like the rock trolls from Frozen
- 14:49and he comes to life.
- 14:50Think so.
- 14:55I don't think so, either.
- 14:57But you know, it's possible.
- 14:59Leaving your leaving space, holding space for that.
- 15:03There's also another really cool under the bridge
- 15:07type of public art.
- 15:09It's called Wall of Death, and it's
- 15:11located under the University Bridge in Seattle.
- 15:15It's really cool looking to me, and I want to go.
- 15:19OK.
- 15:20It looks like spiky things, like a booby trap.
- 15:23Like it looks like from the Hunger Games.
- 15:25Ooh.
- 15:27Yeah, it's cool.
- 15:29It had-- it said death in it, so I just
- 15:31like had to bring it up into the spooky creepiness.
- 15:34Well, sure.
- 15:35So we're going to move on.
- 15:37But the Fremont troll isn't the only giant troll
- 15:41in the Pacific Northwest anymore.
- 15:43Ooh.
- 15:44Yeah.
- 15:45I'm so excited.
- 15:47Artists Thomas Dambo and the Scan Design Foundation
- 15:52are building 6, 12 to 20-foot tall wooden trolls
- 15:56across the Pacific Northwest.
- 15:58Yeah, yeah.
- 15:59They're so cute.
- 16:00They look pretty cute.
- 16:02The public art project, Northwest
- 16:05Trolls Way of the Bird King, is almost completed.
- 16:10With sculptures in Portland, Bainbridge Island--
- 16:15Ooh.
- 16:16How do you say it?
- 16:16Yes, I've never heard of it.
- 16:18OK.
- 16:18Really?
- 16:19Oh my god, I want to go there.
- 16:21West Seattle and Issaquah finished,
- 16:25and Vashon's being unveiled on September 17, which is--
- 16:31well, before this comes out.
- 16:34And I'm sure Ballards won't be far behind.
- 16:37Hey, now.
- 16:38Do you know where Ballard is?
- 16:40I don't know about that, either.
- 16:42I don't know how far of a drive that is, let me see.
- 16:45I'm learning so much about my area.
- 16:48So Ballard is, I mean, basically, Seattle.
- 16:53Let's go.
- 16:55Troll tour.
- 16:56We could be there tonight.
- 16:58Well, Ballards isn't built yet as of today.
- 17:02Oh.
- 17:02Right, right, right, right, right.
- 17:04Like the Fremont Troll, they gave the public opportunities
- 17:07to help with the construction.
- 17:10But this public art project was created for a purpose other
- 17:13than sprucing up the neighborhoods.
- 17:15They represent environmental sustainability
- 17:19being made with recycled wood and support
- 17:23Danish American relations.
- 17:25Ooh, that's cool.
- 17:27This is a quote from the website, northwesttrolls.org.
- 17:33You got to go there and look at the cute trolls while I read this.
- 17:36I got go, guys.
- 17:38The project celebrates the human experience
- 17:40of art by amplifying the connections
- 17:43of cultural heritage between the coast, Salish, tribal communities,
- 17:48and Scandinavian traditions.
- 17:50Thanks for our funding partners and host site partners.
- 17:54There is no admission fee to visit any of these trolls.
- 17:58Wait, it's free 99s, free 99.
- 18:01They also said the trolls not these.
- 18:03I just want to make that clear since I was quoting.
- 18:06But yeah, it's free.
- 18:08Just like the other one, public art, you know?
- 18:10I love it.
- 18:12I want to go to the art.
- 18:15Portland's Troll's name.
- 18:17I don't think I'm pronouncing it right,
- 18:19but I like to say Oli Bully. (Ole Bolle)
- 18:23Go like at Portland's Troll.
- 18:24O-L-E.
- 18:26Space B-O-L-L-E.
- 18:29Oh my gourd, Ole Bolle.
- 18:32OK.
- 18:32So we went through a bunch of pronunciations
- 18:35and we tried to figure it out and we kind of figured it out, hopefully.
- 18:40So if anyone knows the real pronunciation, let me know.
- 18:44On the Northwest Troll site, they also have little poems
- 18:47or kind of riddley things.
- 18:49So I want to read Ole Bolle's.
- 18:53Do I say it OK?
- 18:54I think so.
- 18:55You say it the way you think it said.
- 18:57Ole Bolle
- 18:58See, she says, "Great."
- 18:59I tried.
- 19:00I don't know.
- 19:01Maybe I have a weird mouth thing because Scandinavia.
- 19:05Yeah.
- 19:06You got it down.
- 19:08I don't know.
- 19:08But I wanted to read his poem because I felt like it's giving off
- 19:13kind of a Winnie the Poob vibe.
- 19:15And I think we can all relate, especially us, too.
- 19:18Prie-ish.
- 19:20There's something in the air that makes my belly rumble.
- 19:23Something smells so strong.
- 19:25It hits me.
- 19:26It almost makes me stumble.
- 19:29Could it be the little people cooking something smelly
- 19:33in the big red cookie jar so I can put them in my belly?
- 19:38[LAUGHTER]
- 19:41Oh my goodness.
- 19:42So he's kind of like peeking in this red little building,
- 19:46kind of like opening the roof.
- 19:49Like it's a cookie jar and like wanting to eat what's inside.
- 19:52That's hilarious.
- 19:53He's like, this is just a cookie jar.
- 19:56This is where I keep my cookies.
- 19:58So remind me of Winnie the Pooh.
- 20:00I could see him like just getting stuck in this little house
- 20:02trying to eat a lot of that.
- 20:05I love that.
- 20:09As indie podcasters, we love to show our support
- 20:12of other awesome shows.
- 20:14So stay tuned for the promo we've got
- 20:16to share with you this week.
- 20:17Let's show them some love.
- 20:19You can find their info in our show notes.
- 20:23Well hello.
- 20:24My name is Angel Wood.
- 20:25Host and creator of Crime of the Truth Kind.
- 20:29Those of you from the Boston and New England area
- 20:32might know me from local radio.
- 20:34Being a New Englander, I am proud to bring you these stories.
- 20:38Each episode walks you through a local crime story

- 21:27My dogs make a lot of noise.
- 21:30You guys were back.
- 21:33And don't worry, we did get more wine.
- 21:35Well, of course.
- 21:36Caitlyn, I have news.
- 21:42What?
- 21:43I have since visited Ole Bolle, who I can now not
- 21:46remember how to pronounce his name.
- 21:49Oh, no.
- 21:50How'd you pronounce it, Ole Bolle?
- 21:51Do you remember?
- 21:52I do not recall.
- 21:53Ole Bolle.
- 21:55Yeah, I think it was.
- 21:56Like it kind of sounded like you were saying like old bull.
- 21:59Yeah.
- 22:01They remembered.
- 22:02They just heard it.
- 22:03Yeah.
- 22:03True.
- 22:04So he is so freaking cute.
- 22:07Oh my gosh.
- 22:08And the whole little area is just really magical.
- 22:12It's like gardens and grass and flowers and trees
- 22:16and little gnomes hidden everywhere.
- 22:18Ooh.
- 22:19So cute.
- 22:20So adorable.
- 22:21Everyone should go.
- 22:23Cute.
- 22:24Yeah, so it's at Nordic Northwestern.
- 22:26I didn't even know that they had a whole backyard area
- 22:30with a bunch of stuff.
- 22:31Cute little buildings.
- 22:33And so everyone go.
- 22:35Also, I have a story to tell you.
- 22:38What?
- 22:39And I've been dying to tell you since it happened.
- 22:41I wanted to text you right away, but I didn't.
- 22:44Oh my god.
- 22:45So I'm walking around the property.
- 22:47There's other people around.
- 22:49And I'm walking around and then I'm walking back up
- 22:52to the troll guy and there's these other two women standing
- 22:55there.
- 22:56And they were kind of looking at me.
- 22:57And I wasn't really paying attention.
- 22:58I think I was on my phone, obviously, always on my phone.
- 23:03And all of a sudden they look at me and they scream.
- 23:08They scream.
- 23:09Like, ah!
- 23:10And I was like, what?
- 23:12What?
- 23:13What?
- 23:15I'm freaking out.
- 23:16So I'm taking first thought.
- 23:17I have a ghost on me.
- 23:19Duh.
- 23:20Oh.
- 23:21That's funny.
- 23:22I thought you're about to be murdered.
- 23:23No.
- 23:24That's so telling.
- 23:25It was, there was multiple people around.
- 23:28I didn't feel like in danger for my life.
- 23:29But I did think there was a ghost attached to me and they saw it
- 23:32or like a demon or something.
- 23:34Great.
- 23:35First thing that pops into my head.
- 23:36Okay.
- 23:37So it turns out I had stepped on a mouse.
- 23:43No!
- 23:44A live, I stepped on a live mouse who just apparently had a death wish and wanted to run
- 23:53under my feet.
- 23:54I didn't feel it.
- 23:55You know, the ground's like bark dust.
- 23:57It's kind of squishy.
- 23:58So I don't, I don't feel it.
- 24:01But then this other woman walked up and she's like, you know, I think that mouse ran under
- 24:05my feet too and I think I stepped on it.
- 24:06So you know, at least it wasn't me who totally broke the mouse.
- 24:10Oh my God.
- 24:11That's why I've kind of like looked down once I said it was a mouse and I see it like
- 24:15kind of trying to screw you away.
- 24:18But it went away.
- 24:19Oh!
- 24:20It got away.
- 24:21I don't know.
- 24:22Don't run under my feet.
- 24:23Mouse.
- 24:24Yes.
- 24:25I mean, we're saying that all the time to the pod dogs.
- 24:27Are we not?
- 24:28That's like my thing.
- 24:30I stepped on small animals apparently.
- 24:32Oh no!
- 24:33I felt like a giant.
- 24:35I felt like Ole Bolle.
- 24:36What's it like?
- 24:40I think you should visit the property and find out for yourself.
- 24:43I feel like that's just going to make me feel smaller.
- 24:46Anyway, watch out for the mice, everybody.
- 24:50But there's also, so I was telling my mom about this episode and she was like, oh, the
- 24:55troll at the new park in Hillsboro knows what?
- 24:58Oh, yeah.
- 24:59And I was like, what?
- 25:00I had no idea.
- 25:02So there's apparently a new park.
- 25:04It's called Hidden Creek Park West.
- 25:07And it's not really a troll to me.
- 25:10It looks like a giant monkey or something, baboon or something.
- 25:16But apparently it's a forest giant.
- 25:18It's a forest giant.
- 25:19I guess is what they call it.
- 25:21Forest giant.
- 25:22Yeah.
- 25:23So I went on a rainy day expecting no children to be there.
- 25:26And there were some kids there.
- 25:28But I did go and get some pictures, some kid-free pictures of both that I'll be posting.
- 25:35Okay.
- 25:36So I'm done talking about the trolls.
- 25:39You can go and look up all the other one's stories.
- 25:41They're really freaking cute.
- 25:43And I can't wait to go see them in person.
- 25:45But I want to bring up one more thing because I had a major Mandela effect moment while
- 25:54writing this.
- 25:56Oh, because I thought Volkswagen beetles were like literally called bugs.
- 26:03I did not know that they were actually called beetles.
- 26:07I thought the name was a Volkswagen bug.
- 26:10Really?
- 26:11Yeah.
- 26:12Oh my gosh.
- 26:15I knew the new ones were beetles, but I like for some reason thought the old ones were bugs.
- 26:20That is so funny.
- 26:21I know we would play like slug bug and stuff.
- 26:24Yeah.
- 26:25But I literally just thought that that's what the car was called.
- 26:29Yeah, because maybe this is just a West Coast thing or maybe this is sort of unique to the
- 26:35states.
- 26:36I can't really say for sure.
- 26:40But I think we all kind of grew up knowing it as the bug.
- 26:43I knew that like they were actually like the model name was beetle, but I've always called
- 26:50it like you said slug bug.
- 26:52Yeah.
- 26:53I just did not know that the name was beetle.
- 26:56Because I went and I was like all the articles kept saying beetle.
- 26:59I was like, I thought it was a bug.
- 27:01What the hell?
- 27:02I was like, okay.
- 27:03So I googled it and like Volkswagen bugs were not popping up.
- 27:07It was just like beetle, beetle, beetle.
- 27:08And I was like, you're like, I don't think it exists.
- 27:12My reality is not real.
- 27:14This is then I finally searched and I found something that was like it's like a slaying
- 27:18term for the Volkswagen beetle.
- 27:21But yeah, so I was like yesterday, years old.
- 27:26And I realized that Volkswagen beetles are beetles enough bugs.
- 27:33Well, I mean, a beetle is a bug, right?
- 27:36Yeah.
- 27:37It's just a trippy moment, man.
- 27:39It's like one of those things where like your whole life is a lie.
- 27:44All of these formative memories and experiences.
- 27:48I get that.
- 27:49Well, I'm going to take you there one day and I'm going to slug bug you've so hard.
- 27:56It's just occurring to me.
- 27:59Are we about to have another mandala effect?
- 28:01Like are we going to get emails from people saying what the fuck is slug bug?
- 28:06Maybe.
- 28:07Should we explain slug bug to people?
- 28:10That's what I was thinking.
- 28:11Oh, so it's a really fun game when you're in the car with your brother and you see a Volkswagen
- 28:16beetle and you hit them really hard and say slug bug and they can't hit you back.
- 28:21Yeah.
- 28:22I mean, we both have brothers that I'm sure people played it that had sisters.
- 28:27Yeah.
- 28:28I mean, we would like hit our mom and dad too, not like hard.
- 28:30We would just like casually like slap them on the arm.
- 28:34Oh, yeah.
- 28:35You definitely saved like the full on punches for your siblings.
- 28:38Yeah.
- 28:39For sure.
- 28:40Sorry, Joey.
- 28:41I have nothing to add.
- 28:44I am not sorry to not brother.
- 28:46I am not sorry.
- 28:48Okay.
- 28:53He's pretty cool, I guess.
- 28:55All right.
- 28:56Should we do some tarot?
- 28:57Tarot?
- 28:58Tarot?
- 28:59Some troll tarot?
- 29:00Oh my goodness.
- 29:01I don't have a troll deck.
- 29:02Unfortunately.
- 29:03Damn it.
- 29:04You were reading my mind.
- 29:05Do you have a troll deck?
- 29:06No, but okay.
- 29:07I'm my nightmare before Christmas when I feel like we're bringing that back for spooky season.
- 29:10It's October.
- 29:11Okay.
- 29:12Pulling it back out.
- 29:13Yeah.
- 29:14The other option is like the PNW deck because I think there are beetles and bugs in that one.
- 29:20Interesting.
- 29:21Nightmare before Christmas feels.
- 29:23They're bugs too.
- 29:24On theme.
- 29:25My bugs.
- 29:26My bugs.
- 29:27Let's do her.
- 29:30Look how pretty everything is.
- 29:34It's so Halloweeny and fun.
- 29:37Yeah.
- 29:38Oh my god.
- 29:39That school looks terrifying actually.
- 29:41Right.
- 29:42Okay.
- 29:43Okay.
- 29:44Scared right.
- 29:45Cheers before we start.
- 29:46Cheers.
- 29:47Happy Halloween.
- 29:48Happy Halloween.
- 29:49troll the ween.
- 29:50We got our night owl.
- 29:51Pumpkin beer.
- 29:52So I shuffled a little.
- 29:53Do you want to give it a little magic?
- 29:54Okay.
- 29:55I'll show off some stuff.
- 29:56So my troll I got because I had these when I was little.
- 30:06This is a Funko Pop one.
- 30:08And it didn't have a little jewel belly button which I was like they have to have a fucking jewel belly button.
- 30:15So they do right?
- 30:18Yeah.
- 30:19So it's like what the fuck?
- 30:20So I went to Dollar Tree and I got a whole ass pack of bedazzling sticky jewels.
- 30:26Just choose one for his belly button.
- 30:29Listen.
- 30:30I don't want him to feel incomplete.
- 30:33It's just a silly.
- 30:35He looks naked.
- 30:36You know what's hilarious about that too.
- 30:38Cassie.
- 30:39You know what's hilarious about that is what we noticed on the skeleton hands.
- 30:48There's a little.
- 30:49Okay.
- 30:50Trolls.
- 30:51What are we going to get?
- 30:56What are we going to get?
- 31:01Everything's fine.
- 31:02Everything's fine.
- 31:03Everything is awesome.
- 31:04Is that from the trolls?
- 31:06I think that's from the Lego movie.
- 31:09Oh, okay.
- 31:10You're right.
- 31:11What's the one from the trolls?
- 31:13The Justin Timberlake one.
- 31:16Happy?
- 31:17Isn't like a...
- 31:19I don't know.
- 31:20Oh look.
- 31:21I'm hearing the whole song on my head.
- 31:24Oh, here we go.
- 31:25Can't stop the feeling.
- 31:28Yeah, the feeling.
- 31:31Okay.
- 31:32We got the nine of presents and reverse.
- 31:39So nine of pentacles and reverse?
- 31:42Okay.
- 31:43I don't know if I was too distracted when I pulled it.
- 31:46I was thinking about Justin Timberlake.
- 31:50This one says reversed.
- 31:52This card, reversed, reminds you of your value.
- 31:55Don't sell yourself short.
- 31:57Make sure you're getting the compensation you deserve.
- 32:00Believe in your skills and abilities.
- 32:02What you have to offer is important.
- 32:05Adjust accordingly.
- 32:07Okay.
- 32:08I think for maybe an art installation.
- 32:12This was like the first one that the group put together.
- 32:16This guy is an actual fucking professor of architecture.
- 32:21But he's like, I haven't done this before.
- 32:24Maybe that makes sense.
- 32:25You know, don't sell yourself short.
- 32:27Yeah.
- 32:28And they got such a small budget too.
- 32:31Well, exactly.
- 32:32Okay.
- 32:33So key words for the nine of pentacles are abundance,
- 32:38material, well-being, security, comfort, and success.
- 32:44Some decks, including the Aquarian and the writer Wait Smith-Tarrow,
- 32:48depict a woman with a beautiful bird standing in a vineyard.
- 32:53The right fruit symbolizes a period of plenty and accomplishment.
- 32:58It's time to harvest your crop because it's fucking bold.
- 33:02Yeah.
- 33:03True.
- 33:04It's spooppy season.
- 33:06Okay.
- 33:07We got this shuffling.
- 33:08In the reverse.
- 33:09Some stuff is going to happen.
- 33:10Yeah.
- 33:11Shuffle, shuffle.
- 33:12I mean, yeah, reverse.
- 33:13I will come back to the extra excerpt.
- 33:16Okay.
- 33:17The nine of pentacles reversed may mean you depend on someone else financially.
- 33:22Or your art installation?
- 33:24Yeah.
- 33:25And donations for it, you know?
- 33:27Okay.
- 33:28Although your situation may be comfortable in the material sense,
- 33:32you feel trapped or bored.
- 33:34Hmm.
- 33:35Like you're literally encased in Smith.
- 33:38Oh.
- 33:39Oh.
- 33:40You'd like to get away, spread your wings, but responsibilities hold you back.
- 33:45Perhaps you don't feel satisfied with your success.
- 33:49Or don't feel you deserve it.
- 33:52Oh.
- 33:53Okay.
- 33:54So, you know, maybe some imposter syndrome.
- 33:56I have, we get that.
- 33:57Yeah.
- 33:58In a reading about money, the reverse nine may indicate squandering money or losing property.
- 34:04Perhaps due to theft, damage, or deception.
- 34:08Okay.
- 34:09Well, that relates.
- 34:10Yeah.
- 34:11If you're purchasing or selling property, this card recommends caution.
- 34:16Okay.
- 34:17If the reading is about your job, this card can signify boredom or a lack of freedom in your work.
- 34:23Perhaps you feel you should have accomplished more or achieved a higher position by now.
- 34:29You may long for a vacation or retirement, but can't afford to leave your job.
- 34:34Hmm.
- 34:35I don't know.
- 34:36We'd have to hit up the professor.
- 34:38Yeah.
- 34:39In a reading about love, you may feel stifled or disfigured.
- 34:43In a relationship, the reverse nine can symbolize a partnership based on money and/or security
- 34:50that lacks excitement or romance.
- 34:54It can also suggest lack of independence or equality one person holds the reins.
- 35:01Oh, okay.
- 35:02I told you something was going to happen.
- 35:05Would you do me a favor and just throw all of the cards on the floor?
- 35:08Did I just drop one?
- 35:09I didn't even drop it.
- 35:12It just came out.
- 35:13Oh, okay.
- 35:14I thought you dropped more.
- 35:16Okay.
- 35:17No.
- 35:18All right.
- 35:19All right.
- 35:20Very enough.
- 35:21So, okay.
- 35:22Oh, we got another presence.
- 35:23We got the 10 of presence.
- 35:24Oh, interesting.
- 35:25Yeah.
- 35:26And it was also in reverse.
- 35:27Okay.
- 35:28I'll read the extra excerpt and then we'll go to 10.
- 35:30Okay.
- 35:31Some terrorists, including Barbara Moore, author of the Guilded Terror Companion, see this card as a
- 35:38representing the self-made woman, independent of a man's support and rightful proprietor of her own domain.
- 35:48Only 27 years before English born Pamela Coleman Smith began her series of paintings that
- 35:56would become the writer, Wait Smith, Tero Deck.
- 36:01English Parliament passed the Married Women's Property Act of 1882.
- 36:07Why do I feel like I'm not going to like it?
- 36:09I don't know.
- 36:10Hmm.
- 36:11History?
- 36:12Oh, actually, I love it.
- 36:14Okay.
- 36:15Which allowed married women to own property.
- 36:17We didn't like the before.
- 36:19Yeah.
- 36:20Okay.
- 36:21Before that time, a woman surrendered her holdings to her husband upon marriage.
- 36:26And any property she gained during the marriage became her husband's.
- 36:31Hmm.
- 36:32Because men are trash all through history.
- 36:35Do you want to read your keywords from that one?
- 36:38Yeah, I can.
- 36:39So in the reverse, this card indicates you may have an unhealthy relationship with wealth.
- 36:46Are you acting like a giant snake encircling your vast treasure and unwilling to share?
- 36:53Or you didn't get here by yourself and you had help in support along the way.
- 36:57And now it's your turn to help and support others.
- 37:01Interesting.
- 37:02That's kind of interesting because these, the neutrals were funded by.
- 37:07It sounds like.
- 37:09Shoot.
- 37:10What were they?
- 37:11Did I say what they were funded by?
- 37:13I think that they had the arts organization.
- 37:16So I would imagine it was a combination of grants.
- 37:20And it sounded like there was some taxpayer money and then some private donations.
- 37:26I can't even remember where I was going.
- 37:30Oh, the help and support of others like they're donating this.
- 37:33Yeah.
- 37:34To help the community.
- 37:35That's where I was.
- 37:37I'm tired.
- 37:38I knew.
- 37:39And a little.
- 37:40Both.
- 37:41Yeah, we're going to definitely.
- 37:43Mow down some pizza after this.
- 37:45The last of the pip cards in this suit, the 10 represents fulfillment and abundance.
- 37:52In some decks, the 10th Pentecostal shows a happy couple, perhaps with the child observing their luxurious home contentedly.
- 38:02The card has connections with family, especially family money and property.
- 38:07But also the legacy of inherited resources such as good health intelligence,
- 38:14cultural benefits, cultural benefits.
- 38:17You have plenty and can now share your riches with others.
- 38:22Oh, yeah.
- 38:24Okay.
- 38:25And this was in the reverse as well.
- 38:27It was.
- 38:28Yeah.
- 38:29I'm very confused by this reading a little bit.
- 38:32You may be so established at this point that you're stagnating.
- 38:35Maybe you've retired comfortably and now just sit around watching TV.
- 38:40The reverse 10 of pentacles can indicate problems with family members, perhaps frustration, disagreements or responsibilities regarding a family business, property or inheritance.
- 38:53Is there any sort of a conflict around the troll right now that you know?
- 38:57I don't know.
- 38:58It makes me really, really, really want to watch that documentary.
- 39:00Yeah.
- 39:01Because I feel like maybe there's something maybe here that I don't know.
- 39:05Yeah, that we just were missing that piece of the puzzle.
- 39:08Yeah, possibly someone find that documentary for me please find it.
- 39:13I'm going to give it a goog as well.
- 39:15Yeah.
- 39:16I'll look in a reading about money.
- 39:18The reverse 10 can represent losses or debt, which may be related to family troubles or obligations or it can mean you don't inherit as much as you'd expected.
- 39:30Family feuds over money slash property are possible.
- 39:34This card can also point to fluctuations in the marketplace or real estate values that threaten your security.
- 39:41Hmm.
- 39:43It does really seem to be driving home that like inheritance piece of it.
- 39:49So that's interesting.
- 39:51I wonder if there was any conflict with the family, um, Sandy's family with her ashes being part of the institution.
- 40:00I don't, I mean, I feel like those are probably wouldn't be.
- 40:03Yeah.
- 40:04But I don't know.
- 40:05I'm kind of just.
- 40:07It kind of is like making me think of how the neighborhood wasn't very good and they wanted to spruce it up and not that the neighborhood wasn't good.
- 40:17Like that area just like was collecting trash and you know, under the bridge and anions.
- 40:23So like they wanted to build up that area spruce it up.
- 40:28I can't remember the word you just said.
- 40:31Which one?
- 40:33You were saying something at the end there.
- 40:36Oh, let's see.
- 40:37Well, it says this card can also point to fluctuations in the marketplace or real estate values.
- 40:44Yeah, the real estate values.
- 40:46Yeah.
- 40:47So I mean, that maybe just refers to, oh my gosh, I'm so stupid.
- 40:52What?
- 40:53Okay, so I like didn't add this part into the episode like that was making me remember it.
- 41:00There was conflict because improving that area kind of priced out the artists and things and people that helped build the statue.
- 41:11I was literally going to say I think that this would be like instead of gentrification, it would be just like an art installation that like sort of.
- 41:22It's like the rough er edges of it without destroying the integrity of the neighborhood, but that makes sense.
- 41:29It totally does.
- 41:30I just kept seeing like literally the word gentrification in like my mind's eye.
- 41:36Yeah, so there was kind of a kind of a thing about it because all of these artists who helped the community be.
- 41:44Like what it is who helped raise the value then couldn't afford to live there anymore.
- 41:49Oh, it's awful.
- 41:50Yeah.
- 41:51I was like, I don't know why I didn't end up adding it into the episode probably because I was having fun.
- 41:55I was like, I don't want to bring everybody down.
- 41:57You're going to shit.
- 41:58Okay.
- 41:59If the reading is about your job like maybe as an artist, you may not be using your resources and abilities fully or you may not receive the compensation and success.
- 42:11You feel you deserve a business perhaps a family operation may hit hard times.
- 42:18Sometimes this card shows you rejecting the material world for the spiritual one.
- 42:24In a reading about love, financial and/or family problems may cause friction and unhappiness in a relationship.
- 42:33Responsibilities for children or elderly parents might play strain on you.
- 42:39Emotional baggage and old hurts may interfere with your happiness.
- 42:44So I feel like maybe it's a little bit, it didn't come around to be quite as on the nose as some of our readings can be.
- 42:54I think it was more just telling me like, okay, you had fun but you do have to point out some of the bad things too.
- 43:00Like it can't just be glossed over and that was kind of a, yeah, okay.
- 43:05I get it, Tara.
- 43:06Oh, okay.
- 43:07Oh, okay.
- 43:08Oh, okay.
- 43:09Oh, my goodness.
- 43:11Okay.
- 43:12Well, you wrote a pen.
- 43:15I'm not sure.
- 43:16I'm not sure.
- 43:18I'm not sure.

- 43:28So.
- 43:29So let's cheers and get out of here.
