- 0:16Speaker 1: Welcome into another victory edition to Jagsam. I'm handan Exceevans
- 0:19Speaker 1: Frian Sexton, John Oser with me. We're a little bit
- 0:21Speaker 1: later in the week because it was Monday Night football
- 0:23Speaker 1: here in Jacksonville this week, the only primetime matchup of
- 0:26Speaker 1: the year, and boy was it a good one. We
- 0:28Speaker 1: were hoping for a great outing and we got a
- 0:30Speaker 1: great game and a great win for the Jags as
- 0:33Speaker 1: they improve on the season, and they've only got one loss.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Pretty looking pretty good so far through five weeks. Let's
- 0:38Speaker 2: start out with our big things. It's actually three.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Big people, So we're gonna start out with Trevor Lawrence,
- 0:43Speaker 1: who had a performance to remember on Monday Night football,
- 0:47Speaker 1: none more memorable than that final play on offense for
- 0:51Speaker 1: him to get the game winning touchdown.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:54Speaker 3: You know, we had a a good goal line play
- 0:56Speaker 3: that we liked offul little play action and but never
- 1:00Speaker 3: got to see it because what's going down as I
- 1:03Speaker 3: came out at the center. So I mean, I'm just panic, honestly,
- 1:05Speaker 3: because I was trying to get up to get the
- 1:06Speaker 3: ball out of my hand. So the clock, I mean,
- 1:07Speaker 3: we didn't have any time else, so just try I
- 1:09Speaker 3: was really gonna just stand up and like launch it
- 1:11Speaker 3: out of the back of the end zone. But then I
- 1:14Speaker 3: had a little bit of a lane, so I took it,
- 1:15Speaker 3: and you know, scored from there.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Brian, the perfect example of no, no, yes. Trevor falls
- 1:23Speaker 1: down twice before he finds his way into the end zone.
- 1:26Speaker 1: And I'll say it myself, I had some stuff written
- 1:29Speaker 1: up earlier on because I was so disappointed with some
- 1:31Speaker 1: of the plays early on from Trevor. But in the
- 1:33Speaker 1: second half just showing the resolve resilience that we talk
- 1:36Speaker 1: about it a ton, but he won that game for
- 1:38Speaker 1: them late Listen.
- 1:40Speaker 4: He took us on a roller coaster ride, right, penalties
- 1:42Speaker 4: and turnovers, you know, mixed in with big throws, especially
- 1:46Speaker 4: on that last drive, and at times you're wondering, is
- 1:50Speaker 4: he going to do this or is he going to
- 1:53Speaker 4: miss this? And it's my hot take, so I'm not
- 1:55Speaker 4: going to go too far down the road other than
- 1:56Speaker 4: to say that it was your thrill ride because it
- 1:58Speaker 4: ended with him in the end zone in a really
- 2:01Speaker 4: big moment. Happy birthday, Trevor.
- 2:03Speaker 5: Yeah, but I thought in the second half you could
- 2:06Speaker 5: see him. I don't know if it's a funk or whatever.
- 2:09Speaker 5: Or just starting to embrace it. First of all, the
- 2:12Speaker 5: interception not his fault at all. It was interference. But
- 2:18Speaker 5: in the second half they have been wanting him to
- 2:21Speaker 5: go for the moment, to go for the play when
- 2:24Speaker 5: it's there, and for the biggest play of the game
- 2:27Speaker 5: to be a ball that he threw to Brian Thomas
- 2:29Speaker 5: Junior where he just let it rip. Hopefully he channels
- 2:33Speaker 5: let it rip moving forward, because I thought that was
- 2:36Speaker 5: the key. As much as Stumble Ruski was.
- 2:39Speaker 1: The memory, I like do fall as well. I've I've
- 2:42Speaker 1: seen some good options on Twitter. We'll see what everybody
- 2:45Speaker 1: likes and we'll come up with one name after this week.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Our second big thing, second big person, Devin Lloyd, who
- 2:51Speaker 1: is your AFC Defensive Player of the Month for September
- 2:55Speaker 1: and now continuing into October, a ninety nine yard pick six,
- 3:00Speaker 1: talked a little bit about how this team is different
- 3:02Speaker 1: and wassaw on that play.
- 3:04Speaker 6: First of all, I'm just super proud of this team
- 3:06Speaker 6: for finding a way to win. I know we've been
- 3:07Speaker 6: in situations like this and we weren't always able to
- 3:10Speaker 6: capitalize in the past, but this is a completely different
- 3:12Speaker 6: team and I'm just proud of everybody, you know, for
- 3:15Speaker 6: believing and executing when we needed it. And as far
- 3:19Speaker 6: as a pick, it was just a great call. It
- 3:20Speaker 6: was a zero look and I was able to pop
- 3:23Speaker 6: out and we know the ball's coming out quick, so
- 3:26Speaker 6: it's really about me get my eyes back and get
- 3:28Speaker 6: in the right vicinity. So the ball was right there, thankfully.
- 3:31Speaker 6: And picked up a couple of blocks. Those were big.
- 3:33Speaker 6: I don't know if I would have made it if
- 3:35Speaker 6: I didn't get those, So, you know, grateful for for
- 3:37Speaker 6: everybody who helped me get to the end zone.
- 3:41Speaker 1: John, we talked a lot last week about needing a
- 3:43Speaker 1: play from the defense. We've seen takeaways, but the Chiefs
- 3:45Speaker 1: don't always throw a lot of interceptions or turn the
- 3:48Speaker 1: ball over at all.
- 3:48Speaker 2: But not only to get.
- 3:50Speaker 1: The interception there, but taking it back ninety nine yards.
- 3:52Speaker 1: I have not heard this stadium that loud, and probably
- 3:56Speaker 1: the time since I've been here, maybe before that for sure,
- 3:58Speaker 1: But that was just the Markee moment for me.
- 4:00Speaker 2: In that game.
- 4:01Speaker 5: Yeah, and it was the longest regular season interception term
- 4:05Speaker 5: for a touchdown by linebacker ever, so that's a long time,
- 4:09Speaker 5: great record like that. I actually started laughing during the
- 4:12Speaker 5: middle of the play. When Devon was returning it because
- 4:15Speaker 5: it was like who else was going to do this?
- 4:18Speaker 5: What an incredible storyline. It's almost been comical how much
- 4:22Speaker 5: he's around the ball and Brian and it was old
- 4:26Speaker 5: science fiction stuff when like when we were kids many
- 4:29Speaker 5: years ago, there'd be a little tube and they would
- 4:32Speaker 5: sort of teleport and all of a sudden they'd appear.
- 4:34Speaker 5: It's like Devin Lloyd, first round pick, has sort of
- 4:37Speaker 5: teleported and now he's here and it's everything you expected,
- 4:41Speaker 5: everything physically that he could be. There's not enough to
- 4:45Speaker 5: say about him. What credit to the kid to be
- 4:48Speaker 5: playing like this And it's not a fluke.
- 4:50Speaker 4: It's who he was in Utah And that's why we
- 4:52Speaker 4: were also frustrated. He was a guy who had sacks, interceptions,
- 4:55Speaker 4: forced fumbles, fumbles, recovered touchdowns, and we'd seen moments early
- 4:59Speaker 4: in his career of him being around the ball, but
- 5:02Speaker 4: nothing consistent at all. He's Fred Warner right now. I mean,
- 5:05Speaker 4: there are very few linebackers who are six three two forty.
- 5:08Speaker 4: Those guys have become edge rushers in today's game, and
- 5:11Speaker 4: he's in the middle of the defense making plays. He's
- 5:13Speaker 4: as good a linebacker as there is in the AFC
- 5:16Speaker 4: right now, and I don't know how you don't have
- 5:19Speaker 4: him already plotted into your future. I get the salary
- 5:22Speaker 4: cap and understand the dynamics of things that change, but
- 5:25Speaker 4: this is a verifiable star at this point. And those
- 5:28Speaker 4: guys you build around them.
- 5:30Speaker 5: I think they've renamed the Player of the Week award,
- 5:33Speaker 5: the Den, the Devin Lloyd Award, or just the Devon.
- 5:36Speaker 2: I think the Devin a little mystique. I like that
- 5:39Speaker 2: the Devon.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Our final big thing is Liam Cohen. He's come in
- 5:42Speaker 1: here seen as four and one. He's shifted the culture already.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Brian.
- 5:47Speaker 1: We talk a lot about you know what that means,
- 5:50Speaker 1: because people come in and talk about culture shifts, but
- 5:52Speaker 1: to actually put those words into action and what we've
- 5:55Speaker 1: seen so far, because we talked against the forty nine
- 5:57Speaker 1: ers and even on Monday Night football, those are games
- 5:59Speaker 1: like wars, don't win. Maybe they play well, but they
- 6:01Speaker 1: don't find a way. And this team has enough confidence
- 6:05Speaker 1: in themselves if they make a mistake to find a
- 6:07Speaker 1: way to win.
- 6:07Speaker 4: He set the standard. He came in and talked about
- 6:10Speaker 4: what he wanted his football team to look like, and
- 6:12Speaker 4: we've been through it a number of times, fundamentally sound, attacking,
- 6:16Speaker 4: situational masters and toughness, and you know, as you watch
- 6:19Speaker 4: him go through the course of a game and into
- 6:21Speaker 4: the postgame locker room video that was posted last night,
- 6:24Speaker 4: he exemplifies all of that and his team follows him.
- 6:27Speaker 4: He's very clearly a gifted natural leader and the kind
- 6:31Speaker 4: of guy that brought well, Johnny, you just look at
- 6:33Speaker 4: a team that lost nine games out of ten opportunities
- 6:38Speaker 4: just like this last year, and they flipped it in
- 6:41Speaker 4: five weeks. The coach had a formula, set a standard,
- 6:45Speaker 4: his team is following it and it's awesome to watch.
- 6:48Speaker 5: Yeah, the flippant part is part of my hot take,
- 6:50Speaker 5: so I want to go into that, but Brian, you
- 6:53Speaker 5: can correct me if I'm wrong, and I'm sure you will.
- 6:55Speaker 5: Jack del Rio, I think, was the only other coach
- 6:58Speaker 5: without any head coaching experience when he got this job, right,
- 7:03Speaker 5: Liam was had never been a head coach, thirty nine
- 7:07Speaker 5: years old. What I wondered was I knew reputation wise,
- 7:12Speaker 5: he could call an offense and he was, you know,
- 7:15Speaker 5: one of the latest offensive geniuses. You didn't know if
- 7:18Speaker 5: he would be the head coach, which is everything a
- 7:22Speaker 5: leadership connecting with players. He's off the charts. I mean,
- 7:26Speaker 5: it's it's to change this and to have players believing
- 7:30Speaker 5: in you and to be handling, you know, leading the
- 7:35Speaker 5: leading the ship is remarkable. For five games and he's
- 7:40Speaker 5: changed his franchise. It's it's very, very impressive.
- 7:43Speaker 1: The buying has been spectacular and we got a huge
- 7:46Speaker 1: win on Monday Night Football. Stay with us, we'll go
- 7:48Speaker 1: back over the highlights from that big wag.
- 7:56Speaker 2: XAM brought to you by Fields Auto Groups.
- 7:58Speaker 1: He Fields First, Jacksonvills Premier Luxury Auto Grouphead over the
- 8:01Speaker 1: Field dotto dot Com.
- 8:02Speaker 7: Yeah, it's a goof you finished. But what a tough
- 8:05Speaker 7: moment for him to be able to say, like he
- 8:08Speaker 7: just he wasn't gonna lose, and that's kind of really
- 8:11Speaker 7: what it comes down to. He wasn't gonna lose, and
- 8:14Speaker 7: he made an unbelievable individual effort that hopefully can continue
- 8:19Speaker 7: to springboard us a goofy finish.
- 8:22Speaker 1: We haven't quite picked the name for it yet, but
- 8:24Speaker 1: to get back up and find your way into the
- 8:27Speaker 1: end zone, that's something memorable. On primetime on Monday Night Football,
- 8:32Speaker 1: we got the drama we asked for.
- 8:33Speaker 4: Listen, somebody asked me for my top ten Jaguars regular
- 8:38Speaker 4: season games. That's probably in the top three.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Yeah, probably, so absolutely.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Let's look at some of the some of the tape.
- 8:47Speaker 1: We're gonna start with highlights. We're gonna do highlights. The
- 8:50Speaker 1: first one's not a highlight necessarily. It's this QB sneak
- 8:52Speaker 1: early in the game, which felt a little to me like,
- 8:56Speaker 1: is this gonna be a turning point where we look
- 8:59Speaker 1: back and say what if?
- 9:00Speaker 2: Right?
- 9:01Speaker 1: Because we've all seen Trevor do the reach over the
- 9:03Speaker 1: top as he tries to jump.
- 9:06Speaker 2: It's not my favorite life. I was assuming we weren't
- 9:11Speaker 2: doing that anymore.
- 9:12Speaker 4: Listen, you thought right back immediately everyone went to Tennessee
- 9:16Speaker 4: end up twenty twenty three, a chance to tie and
- 9:18Speaker 4: stay in the playoff race. There, what are you doing?
- 9:21Speaker 4: This is what I talked about John when I met
- 9:23Speaker 4: Roller Coaster Ride. There were moments like this with plays
- 9:26Speaker 4: that we have become accustomed to seeing from the quarterback.
- 9:29Speaker 5: Well, you know, I thought he scored, but because he didn't,
- 9:34Speaker 5: it's a bad play. Williams sort of intimated afterward that
- 9:39Speaker 5: it was more of a push push and and he
- 9:42Speaker 5: should have stayed down. I guess I would tell you
- 9:46Speaker 5: that probably the same instinct that told him not to
- 9:48Speaker 5: throw the ball out of bounds on the last play
- 9:52Speaker 5: was the same instinct that told him to go after
- 9:53Speaker 5: this on this play. He could have thrown the ball
- 9:56Speaker 5: out the bounce in the last play and you know
- 9:58Speaker 5: what happened. So I guess it's hard to take the
- 10:01Speaker 5: spirit out of the wild horse, but.
- 10:03Speaker 2: You got to live with some things like that.
- 10:05Speaker 5: Yeah. So, but my guess is we'll see less reaching
- 10:10Speaker 5: from here on out.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Let's go to Mahomes's rushing touchdown. The first one had
- 10:14Speaker 1: that little bit of a pick play. On the broadcast,
- 10:16Speaker 1: they said, may or may not, you know, was it
- 10:18Speaker 1: one yard line?
- 10:19Speaker 2: Was it one yard from scrimmage?
- 10:21Speaker 1: What have you? This was Mahomes rushing. This is where
- 10:23Speaker 1: I felt Trayvon was missed a little bit. Og was
- 10:26Speaker 1: in for him here and Mahomes out doing Mahomes things.
- 10:29Speaker 1: And we talked about that discipline you need to see
- 10:30Speaker 1: on the passworsh because this is what he can do.
- 10:33Speaker 1: He gets out sat e the rushes or he finds
- 10:35Speaker 1: someone open after scrambling a bit.
- 10:36Speaker 2: So this was a little tough.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Early felt like the defense took a little bit to
- 10:40Speaker 1: get settled against the Chiefs offense.
- 10:43Speaker 4: Yeah, I.
- 10:45Speaker 5: Guess I'm very hesitant to criticize anything defensively when you're
- 10:50Speaker 5: playing Mahomes, I think you can play great defense and
- 10:53Speaker 5: this guy can do these things. On this sort of thread,
- 10:56Speaker 5: I thought the defense had two or three second quarter
- 11:02Speaker 5: early third where a lot of times the Chiefs, once
- 11:06Speaker 5: they get going, will roll through that and end the game.
- 11:09Speaker 5: The Jaguars defense, once Trevor got the second touchdown, the
- 11:13Speaker 5: Jaguars defense had a little period there where they said
- 11:16Speaker 5: no and got them back in the game where it
- 11:18Speaker 5: could be sort of an even footing. So against the Chiefs, Brian,
- 11:22Speaker 5: you watch them a lot, Yep, that's what you have
- 11:24Speaker 5: to do, and I thought they did that in big moment.
- 11:25Speaker 4: Well, if people forget Devin Lloyd scores a touchdown, right,
- 11:28Speaker 4: you go up twenty one to fourteen, and then the Jaguars
- 11:30Speaker 4: got the Chiefs off the field, got the ball back. Yeah,
- 11:32Speaker 4: and then it was that next series that there was
- 11:34Speaker 4: the pass interference that became the interception. So yeah, the
- 11:36Speaker 4: Jaguars defense did their thing.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Let's take a look at that Travis Hunter catch because
- 11:41Speaker 1: we talk about big players making big plays in big
- 11:44Speaker 1: moments and all we've been hearing where's these Travis Hunter plays,
- 11:47Speaker 1: where's his marquee moment? This is a marquee moment for
- 11:50Speaker 1: Trevor step up in the pocket, get throw it up there,
- 11:53Speaker 1: and for Travis Hunter to go up and come.
- 11:55Speaker 2: Down with it. It felt vindicating.
- 11:57Speaker 1: We've seen him do it, whether it's in practice or
- 12:00Speaker 1: you know, made that PI call, that bad PI call against.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Him against the Bengals. For him to have this marking moment,
- 12:04Speaker 2: it was needed.
- 12:05Speaker 4: You know, that's a huge play and they talked about
- 12:08Speaker 4: how they worked on it after practice. I loved the
- 12:11Speaker 4: little twelve yard you know, first down where he made
- 12:13Speaker 4: that dynamic move to get back to the outside. He
- 12:16Speaker 4: showed you last night that he is a player who
- 12:19Speaker 4: will draw people's eyes to the television. He is that
- 12:21Speaker 4: electrifying of an offensive and defensive threat.
- 12:25Speaker 5: Yeah. Kay, you and I have talked and I probably
- 12:28Speaker 5: said it on the air. I've been wondering he's been
- 12:32Speaker 5: great on defense and you can see all pro level
- 12:34Speaker 5: on defense, and I've sort of been like, how is
- 12:38Speaker 5: his talent going to make the impact that they want
- 12:42Speaker 5: because we hadn't seen it. And then when he caught
- 12:45Speaker 5: that pass. I said, Oh, okay, John, that's what it is.
- 12:48Speaker 1: It is.
- 12:49Speaker 5: It was a remarkable catch. If you saw how high
- 12:51Speaker 5: he was off the ground. All we've heard about is
- 12:54Speaker 5: the body control and the ability to make the play
- 12:58Speaker 5: in the moment. That was body control and he was
- 13:01Speaker 5: way up. I mean, it was an impressive play and I'm.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Sold another marking moment. We're going to jump ahead TI game.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Devin Lloyd interception and for Camp to kind of call
- 13:13Speaker 1: that as well, knowing what the Chiefs liked to do
- 13:16Speaker 1: when they're in the red zone. For Devin to be
- 13:19Speaker 1: able to stay there and follow the ball and get
- 13:22Speaker 1: an interception and run it back nine nine yards, I
- 13:24Speaker 1: get wind and looking at this, so it's just I
- 13:28Speaker 1: know we've talked about Devin a ton, but even just
- 13:30Speaker 1: the defense being in the right place.
- 13:31Speaker 2: At the right time. Well.
- 13:32Speaker 4: Lloyd talked in his postgame, and Andy Reid and Pat Mahomes
- 13:35Speaker 4: did as well. Lloyd said that his key was the
- 13:37Speaker 4: center looking back at him, and if he saw the
- 13:40Speaker 4: center turning his direction, he had to get back out
- 13:43Speaker 4: into that flat area and he made that key. And
- 13:46Speaker 4: Andy Reid said they know that that's the way that
- 13:48Speaker 4: the Jaguars play it and that they got We're called
- 13:51Speaker 4: poppers popping back out. I just was remarkable play for
- 13:54Speaker 4: a linebacker John who everyone thought didn't have the situational awareness, right,
- 13:59Speaker 4: I mean the last couple of years. I remember the
- 14:02Speaker 4: game early in his career in Indianapolis where they just
- 14:04Speaker 4: turned him inside and out. It was remarkable to see
- 14:08Speaker 4: him execute that place so flawless.
- 14:11Speaker 5: Well, we talked a lot about Devin Lloyd, and you
- 14:14Speaker 5: know so on the play if you noticed Dwan Smooth's
- 14:18Speaker 5: seventy yards downfield blocking, and so is Josh eines Allen.
- 14:23Speaker 5: I love Dwan Smoot. I wasn't sure that he could
- 14:25Speaker 5: run that fast that far, but that speaks to the
- 14:29Speaker 5: effort and the all in nature of this team right now,
- 14:32Speaker 5: which Devin mentioned on the podium as well. That return
- 14:36Speaker 5: probably ends around the twenty if those guys aren't downfield.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Let's jump ahead to that final drive. Trevor's throw to
- 14:44Speaker 1: BTJ for me was the highlight for him. I know
- 14:47Speaker 1: he scored the game winning touchdown, but this throw is
- 14:50Speaker 1: something we know he's capable of doing. But to have
- 14:52Speaker 1: it in that moment, and as we've talked about whether
- 14:55Speaker 1: it's inconsistency from Trevor Or Brian Thomas Junior for them
- 14:58Speaker 1: to have the faith that they have in each other
- 14:59Speaker 1: and to make that throw where that is the only
- 15:01Speaker 1: spot you can put that football where Brian's gonna be
- 15:04Speaker 1: able to come down with it and get stay in bounds.
- 15:07Speaker 4: And he hit it was an indefensible pass. There was
- 15:10Speaker 4: nothing that's great defense could do.
- 15:12Speaker 5: Yeah, And as much as both of them have been
- 15:15Speaker 5: criticized this year, Trevor and Brian Thomas Junior, they're probably
- 15:21Speaker 5: three and two without two huge moment plays by them.
- 15:26Speaker 5: And what did we sit on this couch and harp
- 15:28Speaker 5: on all last year? Team couldn't make plays in big moments.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Ago, let's do it. We love it all right? And
- 15:34Speaker 2: the stumble bumble rouskie do fall?
- 15:37Speaker 1: What have you stumble in the jungle?
- 15:40Speaker 2: I'm I'm waiting for more. I love it.
- 15:43Speaker 1: It's coming to us. The internet is undefeated. They'll figure
- 15:46Speaker 1: it out. But this play is just all the range
- 15:49Speaker 1: of emotions. And that's you know, sometimes watching Trevor, you
- 15:52Speaker 1: get all the arrange of emotions going for.
- 15:57Speaker 5: The Trevor Lawrence was down twice.
- 16:00Speaker 4: I like that, You know, if you look closely at this.
- 16:03Speaker 4: You see that Ezra Cleveland comes and cleans up a
- 16:06Speaker 4: hole for him. And also on the backside you had
- 16:09Speaker 4: George Carloftis who had gotten free, and Travis etn looks
- 16:14Speaker 4: and sees what's going on and then gets his body
- 16:17Speaker 4: just to slow down carl Loftus who might have chased
- 16:19Speaker 4: him down from behind. So there were some quiet heroes
- 16:22Speaker 4: out there who didn't get their name called. But if
- 16:25Speaker 4: they don't do what they do in that instance when
- 16:27Speaker 4: everything's breaking down around them, he doesn't score.
- 16:30Speaker 5: Yeah, it's all effort and it's all plays. What's that phrase?
- 16:36Speaker 4: Characters?
- 16:36Speaker 6: What you do?
- 16:37Speaker 5: And nobody's watching. They were all plays. If they hadn't
- 16:40Speaker 5: made them, nobody would have blamed them for not making them.
- 16:43Speaker 5: And you know, I guess if he gets tackled with
- 16:47Speaker 5: twenty four seconds there, they probably have time to get
- 16:50Speaker 5: up in dirt the ball and they're still running play,
- 16:51Speaker 5: so they were probably gonna be okay. But again, what
- 16:56Speaker 5: a big play in a big moment. And again one
- 16:59Speaker 5: will be talking about as long as we do this.
- 17:01Speaker 4: But what's amazing is you see the effort from Ezra,
- 17:04Speaker 4: from Travis, and then there's Chris Jones just walking his
- 17:07Speaker 4: way down the golden effort wasn't on right, all pro
- 17:10Speaker 4: future Hall of Famer, a guy who has three championship
- 17:13Speaker 4: rings and he's just sauntering to see the Jaguars want
- 17:16Speaker 4: it more than the Chiefs. Was gratified.
- 17:19Speaker 5: It's been defining their five games this year. All effort,
- 17:23Speaker 5: physicality and belief and want to.
- 17:26Speaker 2: I want to was definitely there.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Stay with here on jag Zam will give you our
- 17:29Speaker 1: hot takes coming up after the break.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Jag Zam brought to you by Dreamfinder's Homes.
- 17:39Speaker 1: For twelve years, Dreamfinders Homes have been proud to call
- 17:42Speaker 1: themselves the official homebuilder of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Visit dreamfindersomes
- 17:45Speaker 1: dot com for all of the available inventory and go Jags.
- 17:50Speaker 3: It's a big win. Like I mean, obviously, it's a
- 17:52Speaker 3: good team. They've been a good team for a long time.
- 17:54Speaker 3: They're hard to beat. I mean they really are. They're
- 17:56Speaker 3: really good. Situationally, don't beat them. So you know, at
- 18:00Speaker 3: the end of the game, they're always in it. They
- 18:01Speaker 3: always seem to make the plays. And today you know,
- 18:04Speaker 3: they they went down and got some points there and
- 18:06Speaker 3: we had to go win it. So it was cool.
- 18:08Speaker 3: For us to go take it and have to go
- 18:09Speaker 3: win at the end, put together a good drive and
- 18:12Speaker 3: it's just another step for our team. I think showing
- 18:14Speaker 3: up on a big stage does say something. You know,
- 18:17Speaker 3: it's a big game, big.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Game statement win.
- 18:20Speaker 1: I think it's fair to say at this point, I'm
- 18:23Speaker 1: just so pleased to see. I knew they'd play well
- 18:26Speaker 1: because I felt like going into this it's just a
- 18:28Speaker 1: different Jags kind of team. But to beat the Chiefs,
- 18:32Speaker 1: who always find a way even when they played badly,
- 18:35Speaker 1: that said something to me.
- 18:36Speaker 4: And I had someone from Kansas City tell me before
- 18:39Speaker 4: the game that these guys were wound up to come
- 18:41Speaker 4: in here because they had watched the Chargers lose and
- 18:44Speaker 4: they believed at that moment that the AFC West was
- 18:46Speaker 4: still theirs, and they had watched the Bills lose, and
- 18:49Speaker 4: they believed that their name was still written on the AFC.
- 18:51Speaker 4: So the Chiefs came out wild eyed, and you saw
- 18:54Speaker 4: it early. You know, they're used to playing these primetime,
- 18:56Speaker 4: big stage games, and they came out all fired up
- 18:58Speaker 4: because they believed it was their opportunity to get within
- 19:01Speaker 4: a game and prove they were still the big dogs
- 19:03Speaker 4: in the AFC yeah, I have.
- 19:05Speaker 5: A take on that, but a'll away for my hot take.
- 19:07Speaker 2: Well, why don't you do your hot take first, John.
- 19:09Speaker 4: Listen, one of two things was going to happen yesterday.
- 19:12Speaker 4: Either Trevor Lawrence was going to make the moment or
- 19:16Speaker 4: the moment was going to make him. That was a
- 19:18Speaker 4: stage game for him, a statement game, and it was
- 19:22Speaker 4: up and down and back and forth again. Penalties, the
- 19:24Speaker 4: turnover on the goal line, some bad throws mixed in
- 19:28Speaker 4: with some spectacular plays. But there at the end when
- 19:31Speaker 4: he is on the ground, that was his opportunity to
- 19:34Speaker 4: remember because he'd have the five yard penalty that he
- 19:37Speaker 4: had gotten them the goal to go with seconds left
- 19:39Speaker 4: to play, and if he had fallen down and been touchdown,
- 19:42Speaker 4: you don't have to imagine too hard what the conversation
- 19:45Speaker 4: would be today. That was a moment that he either
- 19:49Speaker 4: used to make his own or would be used to
- 19:53Speaker 4: make it for him. And Trevor Lawrence made the moment
- 19:55Speaker 4: last night and now has a completely different perspective national
- 20:00Speaker 4: spotlight about who he is as a quarterback, and I
- 20:03Speaker 4: hope he believes it.
- 20:04Speaker 5: Yeah, it's interesting. As you were talking, I was thinking
- 20:09Speaker 5: of the phrase in tennis they use the phrase on
- 20:11Speaker 5: his racket, meaning if it's on a player's racket, then
- 20:15Speaker 5: that player is either going to make an air or
- 20:17Speaker 5: he's going to hit a winner, and he's going to
- 20:19Speaker 5: decide the match and the other players playing defense on
- 20:21Speaker 5: him against Patrick Mahomes, when you look back on that game,
- 20:26Speaker 5: Trevor sort of kept the game on his racket. He
- 20:28Speaker 5: was the one deciding that he wasn't scared of the moment.
- 20:32Speaker 5: He hears criticism and whatnot, and on the biggest play
- 20:35Speaker 5: of the game third and seven, where if it's an
- 20:37Speaker 5: incomplete pass, you're facing fourth and seven, he makes the
- 20:40Speaker 5: play to Ryan Thomas Junior that you know that was
- 20:44Speaker 5: a no fear play. He kept on his racket and
- 20:46Speaker 5: he won the match the way that.
- 20:48Speaker 4: He would not be stopped. He fell on twice and
- 20:51Speaker 4: got up and kept going forward. There's that will to win.
- 20:55Speaker 4: I have wanted to see that level of grit from
- 20:57Speaker 4: him during a game, and I've seen moments, but I
- 21:00Speaker 4: hadn't seen it consistently. And you'd have to say that
- 21:02Speaker 4: from the point in the game that they went down
- 21:03Speaker 4: fourteen to nothing, there was a lot of that. The
- 21:06Speaker 4: way that he was running the ball was very much
- 21:08Speaker 4: an example of that. But at the end that get
- 21:11Speaker 4: up and step over step, I thought it was freaking
- 21:14Speaker 4: awesome and he made the moment.
- 21:18Speaker 2: John, what's your hot take for us?
- 21:19Speaker 5: Well, it's this is what they are, and it's sort
- 21:25Speaker 5: of redundant because we've been saying that all year, but
- 21:27Speaker 5: you're in week five now, and by week five or
- 21:31Speaker 5: six in the NFL, a lot of the mysteries are gone.
- 21:35Speaker 5: A team is an identity, and they're a team that
- 21:39Speaker 5: fights and wins. And I thought what was most impressive
- 21:42Speaker 5: was they had led and been in control of all
- 21:46Speaker 5: their games, even Cincinnati, even San Francisco. They had trailed
- 21:49Speaker 5: for and it was a little over nine minutes. I
- 21:53Speaker 5: thought last night going in that they needed to run early,
- 21:58Speaker 5: established momentum, get set nothing, gets seven to three, get
- 22:01Speaker 5: fourteen three up, and then hold on. They didn't do that.
- 22:05Speaker 5: They got down against a team where every fiber of
- 22:08Speaker 5: their being could have been that's the Chiefs. Well it
- 22:13Speaker 5: was the Chiefs and fourteen seven, and then didn't always
- 22:16Speaker 5: get you know, didn't get right back in it. It
- 22:18Speaker 5: was a remarkably gutty performance that shows you that this team,
- 22:26Speaker 5: it's almost like in Men in Black when they hit
- 22:28Speaker 5: the thing, you forget the past. They don't remember what
- 22:33Speaker 5: happened before, and they don't identify with anything before. They
- 22:37Speaker 5: believe they're a team that goes win.
- 22:38Speaker 4: Did you see the stat on the Chiefs record with
- 22:42Speaker 4: Patrick Mahomes on the road and a fourteen point lead.
- 22:46Speaker 5: Probably they had won their last twenty two overall.
- 22:49Speaker 4: This this morning they were twenty three and one. When
- 22:52Speaker 4: he has a fourteen point lead on the road.
- 22:55Speaker 2: What I'll take the one.
- 22:57Speaker 1: I want to give some credit to some of the
- 22:59Speaker 1: rookie on this roster. We've talked a lot about, you know,
- 23:02Speaker 1: Trevor Laurre stepping up to the moment, Devin Lloyd. This
- 23:05Speaker 1: is a team now where if you're drafted, you're gonna
- 23:08Speaker 1: have an opportunity to play right right away. We saw
- 23:10Speaker 1: that play from Travis Hunter and that was something we
- 23:13Speaker 1: wanted to have a marquee moment for him. That catch
- 23:15Speaker 1: and also the shorter catch that Brian mentioned earlier, those
- 23:20Speaker 1: are marking moments and he was taking advantage of the
- 23:22Speaker 1: reps that were given to him.
- 23:23Speaker 2: But I also want to give some shout outs to
- 23:25Speaker 2: some other people.
- 23:27Speaker 1: Jonah Manheim coming in cold off the bench and playing
- 23:30Speaker 1: as well as he did at center.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Is impressive to me.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Is there a late round kind of guy that you're
- 23:36Speaker 1: taking a flyer on, thinking, hey, maybe we can develop
- 23:39Speaker 1: him into something coming in in center after Hainesy went
- 23:42Speaker 1: out with injury, LeQuinn Allen and they're chip blocking Chris
- 23:45Speaker 1: Jones all night rayon lane on special teams.
- 23:48Speaker 2: These are people that.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Bacial Tutan who's like splitting carries with Etn at certain points.
- 23:54Speaker 1: These are players that you drafted and are putting in
- 23:56Speaker 1: positions to contribute to your team right away, and now
- 23:59Speaker 1: when they're in a primetime spotlight, they're ready to go.
- 24:02Speaker 1: This isn't something where you're throwing them out there and
- 24:03Speaker 1: they're panicking.
- 24:04Speaker 2: They're playing.
- 24:05Speaker 1: They're a part of your team, and that's how you
- 24:08Speaker 1: win games at this point, when you have a full
- 24:10Speaker 1: rounded team of veterans and rookies.
- 24:12Speaker 2: That can contribute well.
- 24:13Speaker 4: William Collins said on Tuesday that when they entered this
- 24:17Speaker 4: project of rebuilding of taking over the Jaguars, they were
- 24:21Speaker 4: going to play young players. And he told his coaching
- 24:23Speaker 4: staff and they talked to the personnel department that said,
- 24:25Speaker 4: get used to it. We're bringing guys in and We're
- 24:27Speaker 4: going to give them the chance to develop. Yeah.
- 24:29Speaker 5: It was a remarkable forms by Joan of Monheim in
- 24:32Speaker 5: the sense that he's the third guy now who has
- 24:35Speaker 5: come in and you haven't noticed that he's in on
- 24:38Speaker 5: the offensive line. And I looked down and I saw
- 24:40Speaker 5: a zero first and I was like, oh, did they
- 24:43Speaker 5: move van Land into center? And it was just sort
- 24:46Speaker 5: of the veteran instinct in me. They say, well, they
- 24:48Speaker 5: must be putting somebody with some extent. But as there
- 24:52Speaker 5: it was back all off season. All I've heard is
- 24:53Speaker 5: now Monheim is going to play if Hainesy's out. Credit
- 24:58Speaker 5: to him. One day he will start at center for
- 25:01Speaker 5: this team. Maybe not this year, next year, whatever because
- 25:03Speaker 5: the Hainesy, but he's going to be a long term Yeah,
- 25:06Speaker 5: long term guy.
- 25:06Speaker 2: And quite a moment for a debut as well. Big win.
- 25:10Speaker 1: We'll talk a little bit more about what's coming up
- 25:11Speaker 1: the rest of the week after the break. Jag fans,
- 25:16Speaker 1: if you want to customize Jaguars furniture for your home,
- 25:18Speaker 1: check out zipchare dot com to rouse all the customizable options.
- 25:21Speaker 1: Zip Chair is furniture for fans. And this weekend's gonna
- 25:24Speaker 1: be against the Seahawks. Brought to you by Florida Blue,
- 25:26Speaker 1: the presenting sponsor of that matchup on Sunday in week six.
- 25:40Speaker 8: Talk about resilience, down fourteen to nothing, come back, one
- 25:45Speaker 8: plan a time.
- 25:47Speaker 9: How about Den Let's think about all three phases made
- 25:59Speaker 9: a huge him packed in that ball day, all three phases.
- 26:03Speaker 8: Guys, not much we do. It's truly the most pretty
- 26:08Speaker 8: thing in the world. But guess what, man, guess what,
- 26:12Speaker 8: Guess what? Right, winning feels good.
- 26:18Speaker 2: Winning feels good.
- 26:20Speaker 1: I just love a Liam Cohen victory speech because he
- 26:23Speaker 1: just how about Devin f and Lloyd Like, yeah, exactly,
- 26:28Speaker 1: how about him?
- 26:29Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 26:29Speaker 2: Yeah, It's just it's so relatable.
- 26:32Speaker 1: I mean, we talked about up and down about Liam
- 26:34Speaker 1: coe It just feels like the right fit.
- 26:36Speaker 4: There's an energy in that room. You can't deny it.
- 26:38Speaker 4: He brought it.
- 26:39Speaker 5: I said before. He's been a remarkable fit and I
- 26:44Speaker 5: think he's going to be the coach here and a
- 26:46Speaker 5: successful coach in the NFL for a long time.
- 26:49Speaker 1: All right, short week, Now, we've got to prepare for
- 26:50Speaker 1: the Seahawks before the London trip the following week. What's
- 26:54Speaker 1: the focus got to be to kind of, yes, ride
- 26:56Speaker 1: this wind, but also not overlook your next opponent.
- 26:59Speaker 4: It's got to be all they're really good football team.
- 27:01Speaker 4: They're very close to being four and one, just like
- 27:04Speaker 4: the Jaguars are. They had some injuries last week, but
- 27:06Speaker 4: you know, Sam Darnold led five straight touchdown drives in
- 27:10Speaker 4: the second half to make that a game last week.
- 27:12Speaker 5: Well, they might be the best team they've played so
- 27:14Speaker 5: far and not maybe not by miles, but Seattle is
- 27:18Speaker 5: one of those teams that you really don't pay much
- 27:19Speaker 5: attention to over here because they're out west. They don't
- 27:22Speaker 5: necessarily have a superstar that gets them, you know, you know,
- 27:28Speaker 5: national recognition all the time. Yet every year they win
- 27:31Speaker 5: and they compete, and this year they look like it's
- 27:40Speaker 5: very much like a favor in their division. And I
- 27:42Speaker 5: think he's the toughest matchup so far the season.
- 27:44Speaker 4: They also think they have a defense that is going
- 27:46Speaker 4: to be worthy of its own name, kind of like
- 27:47Speaker 4: the Legion of Boom. They have a very talented group
- 27:50Speaker 4: up front. It's a great mixture of high round draft
- 27:53Speaker 4: choices and guys they've developed, and the secondary is very talented.
- 27:56Speaker 4: They played without some of those guys last week. Devin Witherspoon,
- 27:59Speaker 4: their stark owner didn't go. Julian Love, the safety didn't
- 28:02Speaker 4: go either, but it's an excellent team. Now they're coming
- 28:05Speaker 4: here to play, probably on a hot Sunday at a
- 28:07Speaker 4: ten o'clock start. You got to take advantage of this
- 28:09Speaker 4: opportunity while you've got it.
- 28:11Speaker 2: That game's presented by Florida Blue. Get your tickets for it.
- 28:14Speaker 1: We're not going to be at home for a while
- 28:15Speaker 1: home game in London, but it won't be in Jacksonville
- 28:18Speaker 1: for a while, so you definitely want to come and
- 28:19Speaker 1: check that out on Sunday. Stay with us here on
- 28:21Speaker 1: Jagsam tomorrow we'll look ahead to that matchup
