Black Cat Boat Sinks Near Akaroa | Christchurch News
A passenger boat called the Black Cat sank after hitting a submerged rock near Akaroa Harbour, but thanks to quick action from nearby vessels and calm passengers, no one was hurt. The vessel’s starboard hull ruptured, steering failed, and critical systems went dark — including CCTV and PA — as water flooded in. Despite heroic efforts by crew to reach shore, the boat eventually broke apart in rough seas.
