  [SPEAKER_00]: Look, this is a group that I think in some of the biggest losses when you just talk about the coverage units and the ability to stop the opposing quarterback and passing game, and some of the Jaguar's biggest losses, that was one of the main issues.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Uh, it's, it's pretty obvious to me like you look at the Seahawks game, Jackson Smith and Jigbo, torched them, obviously Jamar Chase against the Bengals, the Los Angeles Rams were getting everything they wanted through the air, the Buffalo Bills, Josh Allen was highly efficient against the Jaguars and the playoffs.

  [SPEAKER_00]: You also look at the Houston game, um, to me that was more about the run defense quite

  [SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguar's run defense was excellent last year, and the fact that they fell apart against the Texans, again, the only thing I can say is I strongly believe it was an aberration, like that did not happen against any other team, the rest of the year.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And against the Texans, I don't know why, but that run defense fell apart down the stretch.

  [SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of inexplicable, quite honestly.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Like the Texans ended up with 5.9 yards per carry on the ground.

  [SPEAKER_00]: They couldn't stop Nick Chub, Woody Marks got it going as well.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Think that was like a big, big reason, along with the Jaguars inability to run the ball effectively themselves by the Jaguars lost that game.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I guess three of their last four losses, I would say the passing defense and there was issues with the past defense against the Texans as well.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I just think that the bigger issue was the Jaguar has had an uncharacteristically poor day stopping the run themselves.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So the Jag wars and this defense, they play a lot of off coverage, a lot of zone coverage.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think that the biggest issue with that last year was Greg Newsom's inability to do that consistently against good passing attacks against good receivers.

  [SPEAKER_00]: He did not play well for the Jaguar as an off-coverage, and you could make the argument well, why didn't camp switch things up for him?

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think Camp was put in between a rock and a hard place because they traded for a player who they thought might be able to do a better job in this system than he did.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Are you going to change the entire system for one player?

  [SPEAKER_00]: That doesn't make a lot of sense either.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So it would have been difficult to really make that work in my opinion for Anthony Campanile.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But Greg Newsome, he allowed a completion percentage of 69.1, nice, but not nice if you're the Jaguars and you're rooting for the Jaguars, right?

  [SPEAKER_00]: 69% completion percentage allowed in primary coverage is not good.

  [SPEAKER_00]: A passer rating of 116.2,

  [SPEAKER_00]: five touchdowns allowed to just one in our section.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And in losses specifically, Greg Newsome was one of the culprits in the three losses where he played at least 25 snaps.

  [SPEAKER_00]: 84% completion percentage allowed in primary coverage.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And so the way the Jaguar's past defense was running most of last year, I felt that they would be fine against teams that didn't have either an elite quarterback or an elite receiver, or you talk about the combination of both, right?

  [SPEAKER_00]: in that type of game, Greg Newsom was the issue, more often than not, or you could say CB2, CB1, I mean, to me, last year, Buster Brown, even though he might have had like, Buster Brown was a Jaguar's top corner.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Travis Hunter when he was healthy and actually playing corner was doing a great job as well.

  [SPEAKER_00]: the departure of Greg Newsom to the Giants and they're probably going to get a 6-round convict for that.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Is being replaced, those reps are being replaced by Travis Hunter.

  [SPEAKER_00]: taking a player who allowed 116.2 passer rating on the season for the Jaguars and specifically in those three losses where he had 25 snaps or more, a passer rating of 138 and 84% completion percentage allowed and replacing that with Travis Hunter who I think it's fair to say a generational cornerback prospect.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And he showed it last year, Travis Hunter, when he actually played corner, how good he is, how natural he is.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And one of the big things really was not just bust around, I mean, Greg Newsom's lack of ability to,

  [SPEAKER_00]: cover at a high level in the system, but also his inability to close when he was in off coverage, his inability to make the quarterback pause when they were trying to get the ball out quickly.

  [SPEAKER_00]: The quarterback felt comfortable getting the ball out quickly on Greg News some side.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Quarterbacks attacked Buster Brown quickly as well, but Buster Brown has the ability to read, react, close, and make plays on the ball in off coverage.

  [SPEAKER_00]: When quarterbacks are throwing underneath.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Greg Newsam just did not have the ability to do that with any consistency against good quarterbacks.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Buster Brown absolutely does.

  [SPEAKER_00]: You know, Buster Brown missed the first three games of the season, missed a bunch of training camp, still when he came back, you know, completion percentage allowed last year of 54% which is excellent, pass the rating allowed of 73, talk about his production on the ball.

  [SPEAKER_00]: A lot of plays on the ball last year got some really impressive interceptions, some really impressive like big hits in coverage, had nine pass breakups, he just balled out.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And I think you pair that with Travis Hunter again.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And I think you're looking really good at outside corner.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think you're looking good at nickel with jarring zones and then Jordan Lewis will become in back as well.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think Antonio Johnson was lights out once he entered the starting lineup.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I strongly believe in the rest of the safety group between Eric Murray, Kayla Branson, Jalen Husky, Rayon Lane.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think FOIA Luke and his very good zone coverage linebacker.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think Ventral Miller did a good job in zone coverage when he was on the field last year, but I don't know how often he will be on the field in clear passing situations.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Just the way the Jaguar's operated last year, they utilized a lot of three safeties and more d-bees in those situations, which makes sense.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Then you have the fact that Anthony Camponele mixes up the defensive fronts, he mixes up.

  [SPEAKER_00]: The coverage is post snap.

  [SPEAKER_00]: That can make it a little bit confusing for opposing quarterbacks.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think it helps your guys in the secondary get kind of a little bit of an advantage against the opponents that they're going against.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So I love all of that, I love all of that.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Starting safety, like higher potential starting safety next to Antonio Johnson, maybe, but I think Caleb Ransal has all the potential in the world.

  [SPEAKER_00]: He's in a lead athlete, he is a physical player,

  [SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't miss tackles, at least at the college level, he looked good in training camp and off season last year.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think he's carried that into this year and being healthy once again.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, I feel good about the safety group.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I feel great about the corner group.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I feel very good about FOIA and even Ventra when he's out there.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think you wanna get Ventra in these man-demand situations all the time against tight ends and backs and things like that, but in zone coverage, he's fine.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think the simple subtraction of Greg Newsom in addition of Travis Hunter is going to change the Jaguar's ability to stop opposing passing attacks, and we have not even talked about getting more pressure.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Josh Allen against the Jaguar's in the wild car game.

  [SPEAKER_00]: His time to throw was 2.67 seconds, that was the second fastest of his entire season.

  [SPEAKER_00]: when teams wanted to run basically quick game or close to quick game, and they targeted Greg Newsom, it was over.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think that number would have been even lower but for a couple extended plays, or Josh Allen's just, you know, going off script and making a play, but it felt like on average,

  [SPEAKER_00]: He probably threw it in under two and a half seconds, like 80% of the time, just getting the ball out quickly.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And again, he did target Buster Brown in those situations, but Buster Brown came up and did the job.

  [SPEAKER_00]: He was targeted five times in that game, the same amount of times that Greg Newsom was targeted.

  [SPEAKER_00]: He only gave up three catches for 23 yards.

  [SPEAKER_00]: The nature of off-coverage is you are going to give up some underneath stuff at times, which is what Buster Brown did, but you also have to.

  [SPEAKER_00]: be able to make plays in those scenarios if they give them to you enough.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And Buster Brown was able to do that.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And you have to bring the guy down immediately, which Buster Brown did.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Greg knew some on the other hand.

  [SPEAKER_00]: On the same amount of targets, five targets, a lot of five catches for 59 yards.

  [SPEAKER_00]: That was a big difference in the game.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Every time Josh Allen looked on that side of the field.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Putting Travis Hunter there where Greg Newsom was is going to make quarterback's think a little bit more, respect that side of the field a little bit more, and when they do go quick game, Travis Hunter can make them pay like he can jump routes like nobody's business.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So I'm excited to see that and again, I think just the sheer fact of the quarterback

  [SPEAKER_00]: is going to create more opportunities for pressure, more opportunities for sex, for Josh Allen.
