- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning. So what do you do when someone
- 0:31does not want your help, but you know they need your help?
- 0:35It's an interesting concept because we all go through this
- 0:39and we all go through this at different points in our lives
- 0:41where whether it's our children or our parents or a sibling, a
- 0:45loved one, where we know that person desperately needs our
- 0:49help and they won't let you help them.
- 0:52And then there are the times when you know they need help,
- 0:55but you don't want to deal with them because they're so
- 0:57difficult. What do you do?
- 0:59How do you, how do you reckon with all of this in your own
- 1:02mind? Because let's face it, it's very
- 1:05hard to watch someone that you, you know, you care about go
- 1:09through something and not be able to deal with it.
- 1:14It is torture in my mind. So live this happens.
- 1:19I, I go through this with clients all the time.
- 1:21Live real time in the moments. And there's one thread of
- 1:26commonality that I consistently say that I think is worth
- 1:29mentioning here, and that is this.
- 1:31You can't help someone if they don't want your help.
- 1:35Like really seriously, you cannot help someone if they do
- 1:38not want your help. All you can do is say, what can
- 1:42I do to help you? And that's if you want to help
- 1:46them, right? But you know, you know, they
- 1:47need help, but maybe you don't want to help because they're so
- 1:50difficult to deal with. And that is a real struggle,
- 1:53like a very real struggle. Many of us don't want to deal
- 1:56with the people that we supposedly love or have in our
- 2:00lives. It's kind of love is a strange
- 2:02and difficult thing to deal with, especially when you get to
- 2:05a point where you have parents that are not, you know,
- 2:08cooperating and maybe they've been difficult with you and over
- 2:13time and you just want to walk away and not have to deal with
- 2:15it. And it all, it all comes down to
- 2:19the simple fact that we have very little control over other
- 2:23people unless we want to claim that they are incompetent, which
- 2:27none of us really want to do because that takes away that
- 2:30person's dignity. And we only do it in cases where
- 2:33it is 1000% true, where, hey, wait a minute, this person's not
- 2:37competent, I have to step in, Something has to be done.
- 2:41But in most cases, that's not what we're talking about.
- 2:43And what we are focused on is how do we reckon with this in
- 2:47our own mind? Because quite frankly, there's
- 2:50nothing easy about it. So the first and foremost thing
- 2:54is recognizing that this person, you have to boil the ocean down.
- 2:59You have to come down to, will this person accept help?
- 3:04And if the answer is yes, then you have to say, OK, if the
- 3:08person will accept help, will they accept help from me?
- 3:12And if the answer is yes, then you have to decide how much you
- 3:14want to help. What are what are your
- 3:17limitations? You decide even before you offer
- 3:20help. It is always critically
- 3:22important to know what you're willing to do before you
- 3:25actually go into it. Like really think about this.
- 3:29What am I willing to do before I go into whatever the situation
- 3:32is now if the person is not not willing to accept help then
- 3:37quite frankly you have to ask the hard question.
- 3:40Am I willing to have this person claimed incompetent?
- 3:43And for most of us the answer is no.
- 3:45Okay, then I have to let the chips fall where they may and,
- 3:49and see where this person goes. I am a firm believer that every
- 3:53soul is on a journey and sometimes those journeys are
- 3:57dark and not to us, they feel overwhelming and they're, we're
- 4:02just like, why won't you get help?
- 4:03Why won't you do this? Why won't you do that?
- 4:06And the reality is it's because that's what this soul has to
- 4:09experience. That's what this soul has signed
- 4:11up to experience because they need it for some reason.
- 4:14That's my personal belief. Now, not everybody believes
- 4:17that, but I don't believe that the universe and God has things
- 4:21happened by accident like that. I believe that we have, you
- 4:26know, a say in this on some spiritual level.
- 4:29So Needless to say, and, and I know who some people are going
- 4:34to say, well, what about a tragedy and what about this?
- 4:36But we, again, we come back to one very strong thing.
- 4:40We don't know what the soul involved in this is attracting
- 4:45to themselves and the reasons it needs it.
- 4:48I, I, I'm a firm believer of that.
- 4:50And I know people will argue with me.
- 4:53What about this one? And I'm like, that's OK, We all
- 4:55have different opinions. We can all have different
- 4:57opinions on this, but when it comes to pulling yourself into
- 5:01something and, and a big thing like this with another person,
- 5:05you have to allow them to have their experience.
- 5:08And if their experience rely, you know is is put upon them to
- 5:13go all the way down the rabbit hole and it relies on them
- 5:16getting to the bottom and hitting bottom rock bottom, then
- 5:20that's what has to happen for some people.
- 5:22And we've all seen the bounce back from rock bottom and maybe
- 5:25that's what they need. So food for thought before you
- 5:28get involved, measure how much you're willing to get involved
- 5:31and if you even want to get involved.
- 5:34All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 5:37will see you all tomorrow. Bye.
