- 0:38through episode number 65.
- 0:40So you do listen to the show now because we edited that stuff out.
- 0:44There's a whole new intro.
- 0:45I do not listen to the show.
- 0:46'cause I was just asking do I need to record it?
- 0:49Well, yeah, we, we've been cutting you short, like the last, I don't
- 0:52know, four or five episodes like it.
- 0:54You just say it's then why have I, why have you been making me say it?
- 0:56What the fuck?
- 0:57'cause it's tradition.
- 0:59Tradition.
- 1:02No, Brad, you do not need to read the old intro anymore.
- 1:05Tanya redid it.
- 1:06It's great.
- 1:07Welcome to drive through episode number 65.
- 1:09This is our monthly recap where we put together a menu of automotive
- 1:11motor sport, entertaining car.
- 1:12Jason News.
- 1:12Now let's pull up to the window number one four Automotive news, blah.
- 1:15See, you could do it just because you want to speed reading to go
- 1:20along with Tanya's speed skating.
- 1:22There you go.
- 1:25Ooh, speed skating.
- 1:27If you were an Olympian in the Winter Olympics, what sport
- 1:29would you do outside of hockey?
- 1:33Okay, so you're hockey.
- 1:35Can I just do the shooting part of the biathlon?
- 1:40You know what they need to upgrade.
- 1:42I still haven't seen s Schmo yet, but need, they need to upgrade that and
- 1:46add the, the shooting in with that.
- 1:50If I did s schmo, they'd rename it to slowmo.
- 1:57Soon.
- 1:58The Olympics will come to a close as well.
- 2:01Oh, don't say things like that.
- 2:05The juice has been spilled.
- 2:07Okay.
- 2:08I just, hockey fights all I think about.
- 2:12I was conditioned.
- 2:18Yes, I blame the deal.
- 2:21That's terrible.
- 2:23So terrible.
- 2:24That's what I see in my head.
- 2:26I think of hockey fights bigger is the Canadian controversy with curling.
- 2:31That is like the hotness right now.
- 2:34I need to dive a little deeper into that.
- 2:35See what's going on there.
- 2:36The push,
- 2:41and then the Swedish team recorded them and the Canadians
- 2:43are mad that they record.
- 2:45That's like a whole thing.
- 2:46It's hot, it's ridiculous.
- 2:47But anyway, as the Olympics have concluded, by the time everybody
- 2:51listens to this, there's a lot of other things that have concluded this season.
- 2:56Super Bowl closing game of the football season, since we're talking about sports.
- 3:00So let's talk about those Super Bowl commercials.
- 3:03There were commercials.
- 3:05We mentioned we were gonna talk about them this go round.
- 3:08What have we got, Tanya?
- 3:09I don't know how you put so many car related ones here.
- 3:12'cause I didn't see any, it's 'cause I, that's all I paid attention to.
- 3:16'cause the game was so boring.
- 3:17I paid attention to, but there weren't any, like, there were sometimes a car in
- 3:23a commercial, but it wasn't about cars.
- 3:28But there was that.
- 3:29Was it a square body or an old Ford During the commercial for Puerto Rico.
- 3:35Right in the middle of the game.
- 3:37Oh yes.
- 3:37In the halftime show you mean?
- 3:38Yes.
- 3:38Yes.
- 3:39Is that what that was?
- 3:40Yeah.
- 3:41I didn't understand.
- 3:42So I. There were no subtitles.
- 3:45You were lost like everybody else.
- 3:48Well, no, I, I heard, I, I understood it.
- 3:50It was like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 3:56Yeah.
- 3:57Is that how it goes?
- 3:57I mean, that's your new number one single right there.
- 4:00My, my tt.
- 4:00Yeah.
- 4:01Yeah.
- 4:02My Titi.
- 4:03Yeah.
- 4:03Yeah.
- 4:05Novia.
- 4:06My Titi.
- 4:06Yeah.
- 4:07So to Tanya's, to Tanya's point, there were car commercials
- 4:11and I made note of them.
- 4:13I, I almost felt like I was doing a Steve and Izzy, everything
- 4:15I learned from movies review.
- 4:17Oh, you're stretching hard.
- 4:19I see the list now.
- 4:20No, no.
- 4:22Like a good neighbor.
- 4:23State Farm is here, is car adjacent.
- 4:26Okay.
- 4:26That was car related.
- 4:28There was a car and it, Bon Jovi was in it.
- 4:30Yeah.
- 4:30Danny McBride and Keenan Michael Key.
- 4:32It was a car commercial.
- 4:33It was about car insurance.
- 4:35It was actually pretty good.
- 4:36It was pretty funny actually.
- 4:37It was kind of funny.
- 4:38I feel like in the past we've never had to succumb to the flow.
- 4:44Nationwide Commercials, progressive, I mean, or anything like that.
- 4:48I was happy for a State Farm commercial that didn't have Jake
- 4:51from State Farm for a change.
- 4:52I thought it was good.
- 4:53It was probably one of the better commercials of the Super Bowl.
- 4:56Nobody knows who the female was.
- 4:59No, I don't.
- 5:00Who was it?
- 5:01That was Haley Steinfeld.
- 5:02Yeah.
- 5:03Who's that?
- 5:04Well, she's a singer, but also she was Hawk Girl.
- 5:07Girl.
- 5:09Oh, okay.
- 5:09She was also in the, she was in Pitch Perfect.
- 5:13Yes, she was in Pitch Perfect like three, but she was also in the, um,
- 5:16one of those Bravo Duval movies.
- 5:17I think we'll get to that.
- 5:19Oh, rest, he rest in peace.
- 5:20No, no, no.
- 5:20It wasn't Rest in peace, but no, it was a true grit.
- 5:23Sorry.
- 5:23He was the one with the other dude.
- 5:24Got it.
- 5:25Oh, I, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 5:26Literally the dude.
- 5:28The dude, he was the dude who's, because the commercials suck that much.
- 5:33Continue, yes.
- 5:35We're also overlooking the fact that Toyota was the title sponsor of
- 5:39the Super Bowl and Honda in Acura, the title sponsors of the Olympics,
- 5:43every commercials a car commercial.
- 5:45So there were Toyota commercials, there had to be Toyota commercials
- 5:48and there were two that were the most important ones.
- 5:50So we had the not Jake from State Farm Commercial, and then we had
- 5:54Toyota where Dreams Begin, which is that commercial that starts off
- 5:58with Bubba Wallace from nascar.
- 5:59Yes.
- 6:00And the whole underlying message of childhood dreams shaping champions.
- 6:04And that was very touchy feely.
- 6:06I think that one doubles as an Olympic commercial.
- 6:08'cause wasn't there the, uh, the Paralympic uh, athlete in there as well?
- 6:11Correct?
- 6:11Correct.
- 6:12There was that nice little tie in there.
- 6:14The next Toyota commercial.
- 6:15I called it the twofer ad. Mm-hmm.
- 6:18This is the one that starts with a 1997 RAV4 and ends with the
- 6:22grandson driving a new RAV4.
- 6:24And the underlying message there is family, nostalgia,
- 6:27safety, family, family, family.
- 6:31What do we think of the new RAV4?
- 6:32Because this was sort of a, a debut of the new RAV4 as well
- 6:35as part of this commercial.
- 6:36There's a new RAV4.
- 6:37I don't, I don't remember.
- 6:38That was what was in the commercial.
- 6:40I mean it looks like everything else.
- 6:42Front end was pretty bad.
- 6:44It has the weird cheese grater front end now.
- 6:47Exactly.
- 6:47So, yeah, it looks like a mini Hold on.
- 6:50What does this look like?
- 6:50It looks like something else and I can't think of what that other
- 6:53car they're, they've got the Lexus.
- 6:55It looks awful.
- 6:56They're kind of taking the Lexus front end sorta.
- 6:58It looks like a mini foreigner or Sequoia.
- 7:01All right.
- 7:02We had a VW commercial.
- 7:04I thought we were gonna make it through the Super Bowl without
- 7:07one, but we had one this year.
- 7:08Yes.
- 7:09It barely featured a Volkswagen.
- 7:11It had an ID Buzz and a Tiguan, but it was like the fastest drive-bys
- 7:16that if you weren't paying attention, you never, it was very much a
- 7:19commercial about people, drivers.
- 7:21Drivers wanted.
- 7:22That was, they were going back to the eighties.
- 7:24I also thought it funny because we're talking about things that are
- 7:26closing, things that are ending the end of this is our season finale.
- 7:30By the way, the ID buzz ironically, in this commercial, they're
- 7:34advertising a card that they're not going to sell in America anymore.
- 7:38What is the point of that?
- 7:40They're not selling the ID buzz in America.
- 7:42No, they canceled it because they didn't sell any.
- 7:44That's why if you were watching the Super Bowl, you would've
- 7:47seen how other countries were also watching the Super Bowl.
- 7:51So maybe they just left it in there for them.
- 7:54Whatever.
- 7:55Maybe they did.
- 7:56Maybe they, alright.
- 7:57Nissan comes to the table with some car commercials.
- 8:00There were two of them.
- 8:02I must have had a different feed than you all.
- 8:04No, I was glued to the Super Bowl 'cause I wanted to see I never left.
- 8:09So during the Super Bowl, were there humans playing or were there
- 8:14puppies because I think there were two different Super Bowls going on.
- 8:19I've never watched the Puffy Bowl.
- 8:21Thank you very much.
- 8:23I was watching the abomination.
- 8:25That was the Patriot's offense and yeah.
- 8:28Oh my God.
- 8:28Okay.
- 8:29Because at least their defense tried.
- 8:30So we were watching, we, we've established that we were watching the same game.
- 8:33Okay.
- 8:33That that works.
- 8:34I was hyperfocused on the commercials because I was anticipating the
- 8:38reveal of the Cadillac Formula One car, which we will talk about on
- 8:42a different episode than this one.
- 8:44I was so laser focused on every commercial 'cause I didn't wanna miss
- 8:49the Cadillac reveal of the F1 car.
- 8:51So that said, there are two.
- 8:53Nissan commercials also been a week and a half, and I don't remember
- 8:57Nissan Rogue, the dip seat ad. Right?
- 9:01You have to protect the dip.
- 9:02He's driving around, it's like, oh, with the guy from, um, the cooking show.
- 9:07Yes.
- 9:07It's sort of the same idea as initial D. Right?
- 9:09Don't let the tofu get all upset in the back of the car when
- 9:12you're drifting down Mount Aquina.
- 9:14It's like the same idea, right?
- 9:15I'm like, okay, cool.
- 9:16I, I get it.
- 9:17Then there was the other one where they took the Rogue and
- 9:20they were just absolutely.
- 9:23Punishing it off road, the water pressure thing, the Jet fighter backwash, like
- 9:29they still show that commercial, you know, even through the Olympics and stuff.
- 9:31You guys, you had to see that one.
- 9:33Were these like the pre commercials be like before the Super Bowl even started?
- 9:37No, these were during, I should have written the timestamps down.
- 9:40They were during the, I'm literally watching the Dipsy
- 9:42one and I never saw this one.
- 9:44Oh God.
- 9:45I saw all of these,
- 9:49I'll say this, at least the car commercials weren't using AI like the
- 9:55rest of the commercials were not only were their commercials about artificial
- 9:59intelligence, like name your favorite, whether it's Claude or Gemini, or
- 10:02Copilot or Chat, GPT, I mean just every other commercial is an AI commercial
- 10:06or it was generated by ai and then we went down this path of massive aging
- 10:12that Dunkin Donuts commercial what.
- 10:15Was that?
- 10:16I don't know.
- 10:19Honestly, I didn't understand the point of it.
- 10:22The people didn't make sense together because like Jael White
- 10:26showed up Urkel and I'm like, what does Urkel have to do with friends?
- 10:30Because I thought they were trying to do a friends thing and like the whole breakup.
- 10:33We were on a break.
- 10:34We on a break.
- 10:36Yeah.
- 10:36But then Carlton shows up and he is like doing his thing.
- 10:39Right.
- 10:39But I didn't get it.
- 10:40It was like all the nineties sitcoms basically.
- 10:42Yeah.
- 10:43But I feel like, I don't know, I didn't get it.
- 10:46I didn't think it was funny.
- 10:47I thought it was actually kind of sad 'cause it was like really?
- 10:50Oh, okay.
- 10:51But the one that got me though, the de aging done right, that William Shatner
- 10:56Raisin brand ambassador thing was.
- 11:01Wow.
- 11:02Mind blowing.
- 11:04Wow.
- 11:05And did, I don't know if you noticed, he was dressed like when he did
- 11:08the Rocket Man music video thing.
- 11:11It was just on so many levels of like inception.
- 11:14It was amazing.
- 11:15And I have to bring up William Shatner because we did that senior moment movie.
- 11:19So it was like boom, car related.
- 11:21There it is.
- 11:22William Shatner.
- 11:22Done.
- 11:23We're gonna talk about Formula One later in the other episode of Formula Fanatics.
- 11:28But there was a little Formula One cameo in there.
- 11:30Did you guys catch the 30th anniversary Pokemon commercial
- 11:34that had Charles Le Clare in it?
- 11:35Yeah.
- 11:35Oh yeah.
- 11:36Uhhuh.
- 11:36That was good stuff.
- 11:37That was a good commercial.
- 11:38What's his favorite Pokemon again?
- 11:41Aines The Tiger.
- 11:41They all flew by really fast at the end when they said which
- 11:44ones they were their favorites.
- 11:45Somebody likes Jiggly Puff.
- 11:46I know that.
- 11:47It's all good.
- 11:47That was Lady Gaga.
- 11:51That was hilarious though when she was singing the song, the
- 11:54car commercials this year.
- 11:55I agree.
- 11:56They were not good.
- 11:57So I'm gonna quiz you guys.
- 11:58I did a little homework.
- 11:59Do you know what's considered the top five car commercials
- 12:03of all time for the Super Bowl?
- 12:05Oh, no, I wouldn't.
- 12:07I'm gonna guess.
- 12:08One is gonna be imported from Detroit.
- 12:11That's actually number two, so that's a really good guess.
- 12:14So family feud,
- 12:18fried chicken, that's number two.
- 12:22Tanya, can you steal all time?
- 12:25Like how far back are we going?
- 12:27They actually only go back the last about 20 years.
- 12:31Did the Eugene Levy one make it?
- 12:32It did not.
- 12:34Mm. Got a better guess.
- 12:36Do you have any others that you really remember that are like super good
- 12:39car commercials from the Super Bowls?
- 12:41What was that one with the, the Nissan 300?
- 12:45The three dx?
- 12:46It wasn't as,
- 12:55yeah, but I think that was older than three years.
- 12:57The turbo years ago the turbo kicks in.
- 13:00Yeah.
- 13:00Wasn't that a Super Bowl commercial?
- 13:01It was, and it is not considered one of the best.
- 13:05All right.
- 13:05Letterman style coming in at number five Jeep's Groundhog Day from 2020.
- 13:12That's the one where Bill Murray returns to relive Groundhog
- 13:15Day with the Jeep Gladiator.
- 13:17So that's number five.
- 13:18It's not gonna, it's not gonna be the singer dude, Bruce Springsteen.
- 13:21No, no, no.
- 13:21That okay?
- 13:23Nah.
- 13:23All right.
- 13:23Number four.
- 13:24If you remember from 2014, the Kia commercial with Morphy.
- 13:30Lawrence Fishburne comes back as Morpheus from the Matrix and literally shatters
- 13:34glass, blah, blah, blah, and it's all the Kia, you know, all the real matrix stuff.
- 13:39That's number four.
- 13:40Number three, the Kia mice.
- 13:42I'm kidding.
- 13:42No, they're not in there.
- 13:44Number three from 2009, Audis the Chase.
- 13:47That's the one where Jason Statham did that.
- 13:50Like really cool movie preview.
- 13:52It was like the transporter, but it was a commercial for Audi.
- 13:55I remember that one.
- 13:56It was really good.
- 13:57It was super dark.
- 13:58So dark.
- 13:58You couldn't see the car pretty much.
- 14:00Yes.
- 14:01Number two was made in Detroit.
- 14:02Yeah.
- 14:03Number two was made in Detroit and number one coming in number one.
- 14:072011 Volkswagens the force.
- 14:11Do you remember that?
- 14:11Oh, oh, with the little boy?
- 14:14Yeah.
- 14:15Yeah.
- 14:15That's the number one car commercial of all time for the Super Bowl.
- 14:19Hard doubt.
- 14:20Do that.
- 14:20Volkswagens on there three times.
- 14:23Third one from last year was pretty good.
- 14:26Had all the fields, if you remember, that's why I was surprised we, I went so
- 14:31far into the Super Bowl and hadn't seen a Volkswagen commercial and then when
- 14:34it showed up it was like, that's it.
- 14:36Really continuing on this theme of things that are closing still an's dreams of
- 14:42making it in the EV market are closing.
- 14:44It's a 26 billion with a B dollar fail.
- 14:50Who's getting fired?
- 14:51Everybody's getting fired at Chrysler.
- 14:54You are getting fired.
- 14:55You are getting fired and you are getting fired.
- 14:58This conversation actually came up at work.
- 15:01It was really funny because somebody threw it out there and I immediately
- 15:03was like, I mean I took the hook, I bit and I was like, ah, here we go.
- 15:07Because I was thinking about the whole phrasing there, Chrysler's
- 15:12EV entries, and I'm like, what do they really have in the EV market?
- 15:16They had the Pacifica Hybrid, which is made in Canada, and we know why
- 15:20it's not being made anymore because of whatever's going on in politics right now.
- 15:24Then we had the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Wrangler four xe, which is
- 15:29something that few people wanted.
- 15:31I told you guys about the test drive of the Wrangler four xe.
- 15:34It wasn't that impressed, but that's a plugin hybrid.
- 15:36Both of those are, so is the Pacifica, so they, those aren't true EVs.
- 15:40They're hybrids and then they came out with that charger ev.
- 15:44I've seen one in the wild, so somebody bought one, but I brought up the point.
- 15:50That's where they lost their way.
- 15:51Like a lot of other car companies who wants to buy a muscle car
- 15:55that doesn't have any muscle?
- 15:57And it's not that the Charger EV was bad looking 'cause it actually
- 16:00looks really nice and it's really menacing and aggressive and all that.
- 16:03But it's just like when it sounds like a Hoover,
- 16:08like what is that?
- 16:09Well, the people that want the 9 billion horsepower, hell, cat,
- 16:14demon, whatever, Satan reincarnated version, that doesn't go with ev.
- 16:21Correct.
- 16:21Like that's not your market audience.
- 16:24I'm also discounting the rest of Stellantis portfolio that they
- 16:28have overseas, like the 500 E and a bunch of other stuff that we don't
- 16:32even really want to consider here in the States because where's the
- 16:34last Fiat dealer closing in America?
- 16:37Right?
- 16:37Because they're all shutting their doors too right now.
- 16:39So there's not a whole heck of a lot going on.
- 16:42So.
- 16:42Stateside.
- 16:42So I'm, I'm very much focused just on stateside stuff, but we did
- 16:46report a bunch of drive-throughs ago about that Chrysler airflow concept
- 16:51that they were gonna build, which I thought was a pretty good looking.
- 16:53I was actually kind of interested in that as well.
- 16:56That never came to market.
- 16:57They never made it, it never went anywhere other than the renderings we saw online.
- 17:01Again, I say, is this really a loss for us here in the States that Stellantis
- 17:05isn't doing anything with EVs?
- 17:07Who cares?
- 17:08I've seen mixed reviews on the four xe.
- 17:10I think it's a cool concept in the Jeeps and everything, but they've
- 17:14got all kinds of electrical problems.
- 17:15Yeah.
- 17:16Your Pacifica and I could gotta imagine other Pacifica has had
- 17:20all kinds of electrical problems.
- 17:21Yep.
- 17:22And just, I don't want an all electric vehicle from a company that is notorious
- 17:26for having electrical problems.
- 17:28And the charger, ev correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they discontinue all
- 17:34other chargers and only release Yes.
- 17:36The charger ev for like five minutes?
- 17:38I feel like that was a mistake.
- 17:40Yes.
- 17:40Like I'm, I'm, I feel like had they taken the Ford F-150 route and kept some of
- 17:45the other models and just offered it as a separate or as in addition to the lineup,
- 17:51maybe it would've done a little better.
- 17:53But then again, the Ford F-150 Lightning doesn't sell very well either.
- 17:56So this would be a very different story if the political climate was different.
- 18:01I think you're a hundred percent right, but there is a little bit of hope for
- 18:05enthusiasts like ourselves out there because within the last time that we
- 18:08did a drive-through and now there's been some changes at the EPA, one of
- 18:14the big things that's changing amongst a bunch of different rules, specifically
- 18:17for auto manufacturers is all of the requirements that they were beholden
- 18:22to, you know, the hybrids and certain amount of this to offset the big V eights
- 18:26and these that and the other things.
- 18:27And even things like auto stop start, which most of us enthusiasts
- 18:31or otherwise cannot stand, right?
- 18:34And the dual electric system that all the extra stuff that goes along with, they
- 18:38basically said that like auto stop start.
- 18:40Let's just focus on that.
- 18:42Doesn't really do any good.
- 18:44It proved out that it doesn't save emissions.
- 18:47It doesn't really save anything.
- 18:48Motors are more efficient when they're run at constant than when they're on and off.
- 18:53And they always say, you know, startup enrichments, there's more
- 18:55fuel being used every time it restarts, all this kind of thing.
- 18:58And so they're doing away with that.
- 19:00They're doing away with a bunch of other stuff like that.
- 19:02And basically it's gonna open the doors now for auto manufacturers like
- 19:06Stellantis to come back to the table.
- 19:09With big honk and v eights and supercharged v sixes
- 19:12and a bunch of other stuff.
- 19:13So maybe we're going to see not necessarily proliferation of Big
- 19:18Motors again, because everything's been shrinking down to three cylinders.
- 19:21I'm surprised we didn't get down to two cylinder turbos by this
- 19:25point, you know, that kind of thing.
- 19:26But I think we're gonna see the reintroduction of six and a half liter
- 19:30Chrysler chargers and challengers and all that kind of stuff.
- 19:33And then the political climate's gonna change again.
- 19:36We're gonna get a swing the other way, and they're all gonna have to
- 19:39stop making all that bullshit again.
- 19:41The EPA is gonna double down on even stricter guidelines, and it's just
- 19:45gonna be a pendulum that swings back and forth every four to eight years.
- 19:49But see, that gives you an opportunity to buy some good cars, and then the
- 19:53crappy ones will come out and you can skip those and then buy good cars again.
- 19:56You see?
- 19:56You wanna buy a good car, buy anything pre 2020, or I just picked a random
- 20:02year, but buy something older.
- 20:03Yeah, a hundred percent.
- 20:04Hump the brakes.
- 20:05Did you all hear the news?
- 20:07What's going on?
- 20:08Stop Tech.
- 20:09They stopped.
- 20:10Stop Tech stopped no longer selling brakes, rotors, kits after
- 20:1527 years in the brake business.
- 20:17Wow.
- 20:17But it's not just them.
- 20:19Buy, buy raybestos really centric.
- 20:22Yes, because apparently all three are under the same parent company, which
- 20:25apparently also owns FRA filters, Michelin wiper blades, some Reese
- 20:31towing parts and auto light spark plugs.
- 20:33And those people are under federal fraud indictments.
- 20:39And filed chapter 11 bankruptcy and they tried to sell off Stop
- 20:43Tech, asbestos and Centric.
- 20:44Nobody bought them.
- 20:45So they basically said, done.
- 20:47Stop production.
- 20:48Stop spending money.
- 20:49Wow.
- 20:50So that leaves Brembo and Willwood for Big Break Kids.
- 20:54Yeah, for aftermarket, you can still get Hawk.
- 20:57You can still get Durast maybe?
- 20:59Oh no.
- 21:00You might not be able to because I read an article today saying the parent company of
- 21:04Napa and a bunch of other parts companies, they're divesting and some of them are
- 21:09on the chopping block and some of 'em have for sale signs in the front yard.
- 21:12So you might not be able to buy Durast because if you look at what AutoZone
- 21:16Pet Boys and all those places, they have a parent company too, right?
- 21:20Car Quest gets all mm-hmm.
- 21:21Jumbled up inside of that.
- 21:23So there's a lot of moving and shaking going on there.
- 21:25So I think Stop Tech might just be foreshadowing for more
- 21:30logistics supply chains of auto parts that are falling apart.
- 21:34So my question became, how long before the Shoe falls and Rock Auto
- 21:37starts falling apart, you know, places like that, are they too big to fail?
- 21:41Probably not in today's economy.
- 21:43How old do you think Raybestos is?
- 21:45I'm gonna go with 50 plus.
- 21:47Seventy seven, a hundred and twenty four years.
- 21:50What apparently Raybestos has been since 1902 rhymes with asbestos
- 21:57and we gotta get rid of it.
- 21:59That's probably what they were made from in 1902.
- 22:04They were made from wood in 1902 too.
- 22:07And I, I won't be sad if Duralast goes away.
- 22:10No.
- 22:10You know, here's a, here's a P. SA for you, for anybody that goes to the track.
- 22:14And if you use Duralast brake pads, they will last you approximately 20 minutes
- 22:21and then you'll need to replace them.
- 22:23Not gonna last.
- 22:24Duralast not gonna last Dur, last built to last.
- 22:29Where?
- 22:29Too fast.
- 22:30Dur last.
- 22:33That's great.
- 22:35Well, since again, we're talking about things that are coming to
- 22:38a close or closing or are dead.
- 22:40Adding to the dog pile of disappointing reviews on Honda's New Prelude.
- 22:46I think this thing is dead on arrival.
- 22:49So Doug DeMuro adds to the list of negative reviews to the new Honda Prelude.
- 22:54Well, I mean, people are basically saying it's slower,
- 22:58more expensive, terrible interior.
- 23:01Go buy a Civic pretty much.
- 23:03And at least you can get a Turbo and the Civic and they don't come in manual.
- 23:07The new prelude should have been rear wheel drive.
- 23:09It should have been out there to compete with the GT 86 and the Supra
- 23:13and everything else in that two door coop fast back kind of thing.
- 23:17They missed the mark because it looks like it should be one of those cars.
- 23:21Nah, it doesn't do it for me, but it's, they did with this.
- 23:24The same thing they did with the original prelude.
- 23:26Like the original prelude should have been rear wheel drive.
- 23:28Should have had, yeah, more power.
- 23:31It should have been a better car.
- 23:32And it wasn't.
- 23:33Sorry, Brian Shaw, it's just the way it is.
- 23:35He doesn't listen anyway.
- 23:38Tanya's not gonna be sad about these two cars going away.
- 23:42And well, like we said, we're not gonna talk about them
- 23:45unless we absolutely have to.
- 23:46But this one, I could not let it go by without saying, according to Motor
- 23:52one, Tesla's model S and Model X, quote unquote, two of Tesla's longest running
- 23:59models are being discontinued by April.
- 24:02Correct.
- 24:03Really?
- 24:04Tanya nods her head in enjoyment of that statement.
- 24:06I mean, I don't care.
- 24:08Those are the two, the bigger ones, right?
- 24:11The two flashes, the X is the SUV with the gall wings.
- 24:15And then the S is like the Model S sedan.
- 24:18The The original one.
- 24:19The original Tesla, yeah.
- 24:20Yeah.
- 24:20But that the X is the bigger one.
- 24:21The Y is the smaller one.
- 24:23Correct.
- 24:23Yeah.
- 24:24So they're gonna just make the Y and the cyber truck.
- 24:27That's it.
- 24:28They still make the three, they do
- 24:32the model two.
- 24:33Wasn't that the one that's supposed to be like $20,000 free?
- 24:36Basically?
- 24:36Yeah.
- 24:37No, that's never gonna happen.
- 24:38The model two is dead.
- 24:39That's stillborn.
- 24:40That's That's terrible.
- 24:41Wow.
- 24:43Hey, the cyber truck's still out there sitting on lots, undriven things.
- 24:47We thought we were dead and now are raising from it.
- 24:50Like Lazarus, the grand tour is coming back.
- 24:54Yay.
- 24:56I thought they were done 10 times ago.
- 24:58Yeah, right.
- 24:59It's like the Rolling Stones tour.
- 25:01Right.
- 25:02And all those guys, they just keep going forever and as long as you keep paying.
- 25:05We will keep touring.
- 25:07It's the final tour number 25.
- 25:10Yeah, exactly.
- 25:11It's ridiculous.
- 25:12So Jeremy Clarkson put something out on Instagram talking about, which
- 25:16I had already read this a while ago, like who they had chosen to
- 25:20supersede them and I don't know, because Clarkson's bit was okay.
- 25:25And I'm like, okay, who are these guys?
- 25:27Especially the third guy, the train spotting guy.
- 25:29But then I surfaced some of the throttle house videos, especially from their
- 25:33Instagram and I shared them with you guys and I wanted to see what you
- 25:36thought, like, is this what we're gonna expect in the new Grand tour?
- 25:40The new quote, unquote, let's call it Top Gear.
- 25:42I've seen a lot of the throttle house stuff on.
- 25:46YouTube and I thought it was pretty good for like a YouTube channel.
- 25:51I'm curious to see what they do with a infinite budget and maybe they do
- 25:54things that are more interesting, but it's an infinite budget on
- 25:57a platform that nobody watches.
- 26:00And, and I know I'm doing a gross generalization here, but what other
- 26:04compelling event or show or thing is on Amazon Prime that makes you
- 26:09go, Hey, I'm gonna jump over to Amazon Prime and watch their thing.
- 26:13They got tubi and freebie and all that other junk.
- 26:16You're really gonna waste your time on Amazon Prime when you could be
- 26:19watching the Olympics on Peacock.
- 26:21You know, that kind of thing.
- 26:22Like really?
- 26:23I don't think so.
- 26:24Well call patrol.
- 26:25This was not a paid advertisement.
- 26:26PAW Patrol, my God.
- 26:29But that's not even Amazon Prime.
- 26:30That's, that's Amazon Prime through, or that's Paramount
- 26:33Plus through Amazon Prime.
- 26:34Oh my God.
- 26:35Yeah, exactly.
- 26:37The clips I saw, I agree with what you said.
- 26:40I think it's good for YouTube.
- 26:42It's annoying these people pretending like they're caveman jumping around the car.
- 26:46Ooh, ooh.
- 26:47Did you see the second video?
- 26:49No.
- 26:49Where he's got the manual where all he does is shift things.
- 26:53If you put it in his hand, he shifts gears.
- 26:54It doesn't matter what he is doing.
- 26:56These videos aren't made for me.
- 26:58Right.
- 27:00I am not their target audience.
- 27:01The people are saying, oh, they're the natural progression for Hamlin Clarkson
- 27:05and May, and I'm like, I, I don't see it.
- 27:07Oh, here's my problem.
- 27:08So the Amazon Prime is one issue and you, you can take many
- 27:12different sides of that issue.
- 27:13How you feel about Amazon and all that.
- 27:15I'm not even worried about that.
- 27:16I'm just really focusing on if Andy Willman is just trying to reproduce
- 27:21top gear, there's a big mistake there because you're never going to find
- 27:26another Clarkson Hammond in May.
- 27:28They are who they are.
- 27:30And at that time we showed up for those guys and we watched and the car
- 27:34stuff and whatever, but the cars have changed and the people have changed.
- 27:38Reviewing cars hasn't changed.
- 27:40It's still the same thing.
- 27:41Like how fast does it go and what does it do and how does it, they've been doing
- 27:44another motor week for like a hundred years, you know, that kind of thing.
- 27:47It's never going to be the same.
- 27:48And if you're trying to replicate it, that's where you're gonna
- 27:51lose a huge amount of audience because I think what they should
- 27:54have done is taken throttle house.
- 27:56And made that the new brand name, it's a great name, and said Throttle
- 28:00house, coming to Amazon Prime.
- 28:01And then you sort of reintroduce the concept and people go, you
- 28:05know, this is really familiar.
- 28:07It has this like top gear kind of feel to it.
- 28:09But it's a whole new dynamic.
- 28:11And you can get on board with that, you can subscribe with that.
- 28:13But if you bring these guys to this table and say it's the new top gear, it's
- 28:17the new grand tour, whatever, there's a certain expectation that goes with that.
- 28:21Yeah.
- 28:21And I think we're all gonna be holding them to that level and they're never
- 28:25gonna be able to achieve the same thing.
- 28:27And it's gonna fail.
- 28:28It'll make it a year or two max.
- 28:30And then it'll be gone.
- 28:32And to that point, that's the same reason why the numerous, uh, iterations
- 28:36of American Top Gear, top Gear, USA, top Gear America, they all failed
- 28:41because they were all under the shadow.
- 28:45And the high expectations of the original top gear, like you were
- 28:49saying, you're never gonna get another Clarkson Hammond in May.
- 28:53You know, the only one that worked, the only spinoff that worked in that series
- 28:57is the one most people don't even realize existed, which is Top Gear Australia.
- 29:02'cause the Australians sort of just did whatever the heck
- 29:05they wanted and it was funny.
- 29:08And it was all about their stuff and their culture and their cars and it just worked.
- 29:12And then they did a cross, one of the best crossover episodes with
- 29:16Top Gear is the Ashes episode where the Australians come and they do the
- 29:19shootout, the the XJ two 20 powered van and the Maloo and all that stuff.
- 29:24The Australians did it.
- 29:25Right.
- 29:25And they didn't get enough credit.
- 29:27But to your point, the Americans and all the other spinoffs, because there even
- 29:30apparently was like a top gear Germany.
- 29:32Yeah.
- 29:32And they just never worked because they were trying to repeat the
- 29:36recipe and you can't do that.
- 29:38So I unfortunately feel like this is the same thing with the Grand
- 29:41tour and it's got a lot of cards stacked against it from day one.
- 29:46And I think a lot of that also comes from just the way
- 29:48Clarkson, Hammond and May worked.
- 29:50Like, not even just their chemistry on screen, but the work
- 29:54that they did behind the screen.
- 29:55I mean, I thought, you can correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought I saw something
- 29:59about where Clarkson would spend hours writing and rewriting and retaking
- 30:04jokes and checking and like testing.
- 30:06It is like everything that he was meticulous Yes.
- 30:09With how they did and they, and they made it look so effortless and almost
- 30:12candid, but it was meticulously put together and thought out.
- 30:16Mm-hmm.
- 30:16Mm-hmm.
- 30:16And nobody else can replicate that.
- 30:18No.
- 30:19Well, speaking of things that can't be replicated, and on a very sad note,
- 30:24drag racing legend, ed Isky Arian, also known as the Cam father, passed away on
- 30:31February the fourth at 104 years old.
- 30:36Our condolences go out to the family and to break fix guest Cheyenne Kane.
- 30:41We were very fortunate to be able to have her on the show to Chronicle Isys life and
- 30:46to talk about the new documentary that she put together, which is also called Isy.
- 30:51And it's making its rounds in the indie film circuit right now and
- 30:54we're hoping that it gets picked up through a streaming service.
- 30:57But I believe she is bringing the film to the East coast.
- 31:00So we, we will be able to go to a showing and see the Isky film firsthand.
- 31:05But if you missed that, go back into our catalog Break Fix and check out
- 31:09the episode with Cheyenne Kane so you can get up to speed on all things.
- 31:13Ed Arian.
- 31:14In other tragic and sad news, we've lost a veteran legendary
- 31:20actor, James Vander Beak.
- 31:23That too.
- 31:26The greatest racing movie of all time Days of Thunder.
- 31:29We have lost Robert Dugal at age nine five.
- 31:32Now he can eat all the ice cream he wants.
- 31:36Robin's racing, baby.
- 31:37We need to revisit that movie.
- 31:39That's what we need to do next with Steven.
- 31:41Well, we said we've, we've said we were gonna do it, but now it's even
- 31:44Yeah, we gotta fast forward that.
- 31:46We gotta get that done.
- 31:47Let's watch it on the 27th.
- 31:49There you go.
- 31:49Get together with them that I think they're a good tribute.
- 31:52Robert Devo, I'm gonna bring out some, I'm gonna get you some ice cream.
- 31:55Come on down here.
- 31:56We'll, we'll go to the, the Moo or whatever up there by you and then go Yeah.
- 32:00And go watch these of thunder.
- 32:02Can I rub a little sweet and low packet on your leg too while we watch it or what?
- 32:12I'll be sure to wear my short shorts.
- 32:15Stop the car.
- 32:15Cole.
- 32:16Stop the.
- 32:21Well, I would say that we would move on to our regularly scheduled ranting and
- 32:25raving at this point, but this is like Monty Python, like, bring out you dead.
- 32:29Bring out you dead.
- 32:30And then next we're like, I'm not dead yet.
- 32:33Not dead yet.
- 32:35Speaking of not dead yet, I thought the boxer and the Cayman were gone.
- 32:40Like, I'm so confused what's going on at Porsche right now.
- 32:43But apparently they're back.
- 32:45Back in a weird way because there's the Ev Cayman and the EV boxer, but
- 32:50then they're talking about getting in bed with Toyota and doing this
- 32:54collaboration MR two boxer thing.
- 32:57And I'm like, what?
- 32:59Since when I, I'm just gonna say since when does Porsche need Toyota's
- 33:04help to build something like a boxer or a Cayman, which they've
- 33:07been making now since the nineties.
- 33:10Like, come on.
- 33:11Really just.
- 33:12Sell something.
- 33:14It doesn't cost over six figures.
- 33:16Even the Caymans cost six figures now.
- 33:19Well that's kind of the point of this is they're saying they're basically pushing
- 33:23out younger people that don't have the money to afford a Porsche anymore.
- 33:27Because where's the 9 44?
- 33:29That was like the poor man's Porsche to go buy and they only did that
- 33:33'cause Ferrari had the 3 0 8, so they had to compete in that space.
- 33:37Right.
- 33:37Also to get themselves outta bankruptcy.
- 33:39I mean, it is the card to save Porsche during the eighties,
- 33:41but yes to to that end.
- 33:43Where is the 9 44?
- 33:45Where is the 9 28?
- 33:46You could make the argument that the Panamera replaced the 9 28
- 33:50in some respects, but where's that front engine rear drive?
- 33:53Near perfect weight distribution, grand Tour or Sport Coupe?
- 33:57I guess that the 9 44 was, but yeah, I don't know.
- 34:00Is the idea to go to Toyota because lower costs?
- 34:03Yeah, because also, 'cause you've already had the Porsche.
- 34:05Volkswagen, you already had the Porsche Audi.
- 34:08Like why would you.
- 34:09Not just go revisit that pool.
- 34:11They're your same company.
- 34:13I don't get it.
- 34:14It makes no sense other than what are you saving with A GTI that's $60,000.
- 34:18So yeah, because 'cause neither of those companies are making
- 34:21cars that anybody wants.
- 34:23At least Toyota still is for now.
- 34:26For now.
- 34:27You can't tell me that Volkswagen can't build a boxer with a GTI
- 34:30engine in it and let's call it a day.
- 34:32I mean, why are we going to Toyota?
- 34:34I don't know.
- 34:35It doesn't make any sense.
- 34:36It's not like they produce anoth yet another boxer yet another Cayman.
- 34:40They're gonna outsource the chassis and all that to Toyota.
- 34:44That doesn't make, again, it doesn't make any sense.
- 34:46Toyota, a company which currently has three different front engine rear wheel
- 34:50drive based force cars on their three separate vehicle platforms, in addition
- 34:54to performance variants of the Corolla and Yaris, which again doesn't make any sense.
- 34:57So Volkswagen, Audi have plenty of front engine cars.
- 35:01Porsche, you know how to make a rear wheel drive car.
- 35:04You're telling me you can't put the two together on your own?
- 35:06No.
- 35:07No.
- 35:08Let's unpack that.
- 35:09Toyota has three, I don't know which those are front engine and
- 35:13three wheel drive sports cars.
- 35:15They've got the BRZ GT 86, the, yeah, the G 86.
- 35:18Now the GR 86, which they built with Subaru, and then the Supra,
- 35:22which they built with BMW.
- 35:23What's the other one?
- 35:24They, they don't make the super anymore.
- 35:25Well, I guess they knew how to, yeah, but they didn't though because they
- 35:29built it with another manufacturer.
- 35:31BMW.
- 35:32When's, yeah, when's the last time they built a rear wheel drive?
- 35:34A front engine, rear wheel drive car themself.
- 35:36The third one is a Lexus.
- 35:38That's the one you're missing?
- 35:39Mm. Okay, so then Porsche should go to Lexus.
- 35:42Well, why would Porsche not go to BMW or Mercedes?
- 35:46Why would you not stay German?
- 35:48That's verboten because fuck those guys.
- 35:50That's what I, I guarantee you it's a, it's a fuck those guys kind of thing.
- 35:54I can you imagine a A GR 86 with like a Porsche body on top of it.
- 35:59How pathetic is that gonna be?
- 36:02You can't tell me Volkswagen can't build this and put a freaking two liter turbo.
- 36:06GTI motor up front Volkswagen knows how to make rear engine cars too.
- 36:11The beetle.
- 36:12Yeah.
- 36:12A hundred years ago.
- 36:15I don't know.
- 36:16I almost wanna be like, this is a farce, but the news came from the Porsche
- 36:20Club directly, so I'm like, well, maybe there's some credibility to this.
- 36:23I just don't, I don't get it.
- 36:25It actually kind of infuriates me in a way, like, what the hell is Porsche doing?
- 36:29They just wanna sell nine elevens and that's it.
- 36:31They're like only interested in the m mr two that Toyota's
- 36:34allegedly coming back with.
- 36:36Okay.
- 36:36And you said something to me the other day, which is really important about
- 36:40this particular part of the conversation.
- 36:42Currently at the helm of Toyota, we have an enthusiast, right?
- 36:46All the Gazoo stuff that's going on, but what's about to happen at Toyota?
- 36:50But that's changing.
- 36:52They're putting a bean counter in charge.
- 36:54Yeah.
- 36:54So who's Porsche gonna get their m mr two sports Coop from?
- 36:59I mean, granted, this article, a guest came out before the Toyota announcement.
- 37:05Maybe Porsche didn't know and now they're gonna have to be like, nevermind.
- 37:10Scotty didn't know.
- 37:12Scotty didn't know.
- 37:13Scotty didn't know.
- 37:13Because at them two ain't happening with the bean counter in charge.
- 37:16No, it's not.
- 37:16It's not.
- 37:17That's gonna get canceled.
- 37:18That's probably one of the first things that's gonna get canceled.
- 37:20'cause they're gonna go back to making super boring corollas and CELs and stuff.
- 37:25Now that there's not an enthusiast in charge of Toyota, bring the Avalon back.
- 37:29Oh God no, please.
- 37:31I'm, I'm reading this.
- 37:32It seems like this is all pie in the sky and there's nothing going.
- 37:37This is just what this writer has said.
- 37:39You can't help but daydream about what a collaboration between Toyota and
- 37:43Porsche on an affordable, vintage, and sports car would look like.
- 37:46So this is all bullshit.
- 37:47We got clickbait.
- 37:48So that being said, how many Porsche club owners suddenly got out their
- 37:52torches and their pitchforks?
- 37:53'cause I'd be pissed off.
- 37:54Who's writing for PCA these days?
- 37:56'cause this isn't the first time we've come across articles
- 37:59where it's like, who wrote this?
- 38:01Well, first of all, it was written poorly.
- 38:02This is Brad.
- 38:03This is Bradley Iger.
- 38:07Must be a Brad thing.
- 38:09What?
- 38:09When was the last time I wrote an article?
- 38:11So speaking of things that, thank God they're dead.
- 38:14Did you know Audi was gonna enter the pickup truck market?
- 38:17Who?
- 38:18I'm gonna say that again.
- 38:19Audi pickup truck.
- 38:21They called it the active sphere concept.
- 38:23Active fear.
- 38:25Dude, look at this thing.
- 38:26But that's not a pickup truck.
- 38:27That just happens to be a like lift gate that you can stick your bike out the back.
- 38:31Tesla redefined what it is to be a pickup truck.
- 38:33That's a pickup truck.
- 38:34Now there's not a pickup truck.
- 38:36I would not, doesn't look like a cyber truck.
- 38:38Thank God it doesn't look like a cyber truck.
- 38:40But also it doesn't look like a pickup truck.
- 38:42It also has the same amount of trunk space as a cyber truck is pretty terrible.
- 38:45I mean, you can't even put the bike all the way in The fuck is that shit.
- 38:50I'm sorry.
- 38:52Just put a bike rack on the back.
- 38:54Why are you never?
- 38:55That is the dumbest.
- 38:57It looks so stupid, useless crap.
- 39:00What is that?
- 39:01I'm sorry.
- 39:01That's stupid.
- 39:02I just like the fact that it has like a reverse sunroof.
- 39:05Did you see how the trunk opens?
- 39:07I don't wanna see it anymore.
- 39:08This is Ong, like you just wasted any sort of cargo space
- 39:12to hang your bike halfway in.
- 39:14It's still halfway out.
- 39:15Leave the damn thing all the way out.
- 39:17It gets better.
- 39:18If you click on the other article about it, the Audi active seer
- 39:21concept a little further down.
- 39:23It'll take you to another article.
- 39:25There's a picture of it with golf clubs in the back and you can't close the
- 39:28boot with the golf clubs in the back.
- 39:30Oh, where?
- 39:31Where, how do I click that?
- 39:32Where do I click that?
- 39:33I don't see a link.
- 39:34Here's the best part of all that.
- 39:36All right.
- 39:36As you read this article, you realize this is Volkswagen Audi at its finest because
- 39:43they are competing with themselves because they can't leave well enough alone.
- 39:48All of this atmosphere.
- 39:50Comes from the fact that they're gonna make a pickup truck over at Scout,
- 39:54which is owned by Volkswagen because they can't just swim in one lane.
- 39:58So now we're going back to, well, if, if Scout has a pickup,
- 40:01then Volkswagen has to have one.
- 40:03An Audi has to have one.
- 40:04Next thing you know, there's gonna be a Porsche badged pickup
- 40:06truck, probably built by Toyota.
- 40:08It'll be a Tundra with a Porsche badge on it.
- 40:11But this is stupid.
- 40:12Why would you drive around with your golf clubs exposed?
- 40:16Aren't they really expensive of a good set?
- 40:20Yes, could be.
- 40:20Yeah.
- 40:21This is so stupid dumb.
- 40:25So you were asking earlier, why wouldn't Porsche just go to Volkswagen and Audi?
- 40:30This is why this is the bullshit that they're fucking making.
- 40:34Porsche is like, no, thank you.
- 40:36We'll, outsource Porsche is like, I want rear real drive, front engine,
- 40:40mid, mid-engine, super sports car for the people in in Volkswagen, I was
- 40:44like, here's about this pickup truck that doesn't actually fit a golf club.
- 40:48This is sad.
- 40:50Speaking of things that are bad and apparently still on the
- 40:53table, I'm gonna keep bringing this car up until it goes away.
- 40:56But unfortunately, it is, quote unquote, the new design language for Audi.
- 40:59Audi confirms the concept C project still on.
- 41:03Despite the rumors, this ugly heinous eyesore won't go away.
- 41:09What would you rather this AI generated?
- 41:12Crap.
- 41:13It's not even real.
- 41:14What would you rather this or the pickup truck?
- 41:16Am I allowed to burn it to the ground?
- 41:19It'll burn itself to the ground.
- 41:20It's electric.
- 41:20That's true.
- 41:21God, they're terrible.
- 41:22They're all terrible.
- 41:24Oh man.
- 41:25This is bad for some angles and the other one's bad from some angles.
- 41:29If we could maybe smash them into each other, we could
- 41:32have one decent looking car.
- 41:33'cause the front of the other one's not bad, but the, the
- 41:37back of this one's horrendous.
- 41:38God, I think you mean smash them into each other and destroy both of them.
- 41:42I think that's what you're meant to say.
- 41:44The end result.
- 41:45Yes.
- 41:45This, they're just terrible.
- 41:47I do like that one picture of this heinous AI car, and there's this black hole and
- 41:52it says, this is just the beginning.
- 41:54Yeah.
- 41:54Of the end.
- 41:55Pretty much like that is, that's the shoot where the poop goes.
- 41:59Open butt hole,
- 42:03inter, inter suppository.
- 42:05Again, there's certain car companies we say we're not gonna talk about, and then
- 42:10they just poof, come up with something else that we can't resist talking
- 42:15about and maybe this should be part of the showcase, which as you notice,
- 42:19there's a theme here we're continuing to extend throughout the episode.
- 42:24BMW's new M three.
- 42:27All I have to say is quad motor and not the petrol kind.
- 42:32Is this the nail in the coffin for the M three?
- 42:34Is this what's gonna kill it?
- 42:35Probably.
- 42:35It needs quad motors because it weighs 10 million pounds.
- 42:39Oh my God, it's so awful.
- 42:415,000 pounds.
- 42:42You know what?
- 42:43Honestly, it's hard to tell what it's gonna look like since it's under
- 42:46total camo, this, that, and the other.
- 42:48The front, what you can see of it, is sort of reminiscent of a
- 42:512002 in the grill style with the lights, which if done correctly.
- 42:58Might not even be a bad thing.
- 43:00Be better than those buck tooth, badger kidney grill things that
- 43:03have been going on recently.
- 43:05But I thought BM BMW was one of the ones that was all about the combustion.
- 43:10Yes.
- 43:10Until they're not when it suits them.
- 43:12Tell me that The back of that doesn't look like a Pontiac G eight from the one angle.
- 43:17Yes.
- 43:18Or Alexis.
- 43:19It's really big too.
- 43:21If you go a little further down, there's a link.
- 43:24It's the new electric M three lapping the berg ring.
- 43:29Oh yeah, I did see that.
- 43:30Uh oh yeah, I see that.
- 43:32I'm sorry.
- 43:33But to add insult to injury, and we didn't get to talk about this last
- 43:37time, so it fits right in here with this car's gonna be put together
- 43:41with that screw, that BMW made.
- 43:43That's impossible to screw unless you have their special.
- 43:45Have you seen this thing?
- 43:47Yes.
- 43:47The screw head is a round L. I mean, there's schwabing tools and
- 43:52then there's this kind of insanity.
- 43:54And when that strips, because it will, you're fucked.
- 43:57You just gonna have to get a new car.
- 44:00The whole car's gonna be put together with these.
- 44:04It's bad enough when they use torques, the six points like This is stupid.
- 44:09What happened to Right.
- 44:09To repair what?
- 44:11Yeah.
- 44:11They're gonna find a way to take that away from you without
- 44:14having to do it with the laws.
- 44:15They'll make everything some special, ridiculous tool.
- 44:18I think this is creating a whole new aftermarket for screws and people.
- 44:23BMW owners are just gonna buy a kit for like $1,500 to
- 44:27replace all of their screws.
- 44:31I didn't think about it that way, but that's, that's a good point.
- 44:33The new ECS tuning billet screw kit for your VW.
- 44:37Bag of screws.
- 44:39Bag of screws.
- 44:40Or you're gonna get a bunch of people that are gonna 3D print some sort
- 44:43of adapter wrench, screwdriver, or whatever the mechanism is.
- 44:47I don't know.
- 44:47Well, since we're talking about things that are closing, dying,
- 44:51going away, should remain dead.
- 44:53However you wanna phrase that.
- 44:55We don't have any new EVs or compec cars.
- 44:57We don't have any Asian stuff.
- 44:58We don't have any bikes.
- 44:59We don't have any lost and found.
- 45:00We don't have any uncool wall.
- 45:02This is a hell of a season closer.
- 45:04We got no Tesla news other than what we already talked about.
- 45:07Well, we had the JDM news with the Toyota CEO swap change thing,
- 45:12and then Mazda recently was just awarded, I don't know if awarded, but
- 45:17apparently they're now the safest car.
- 45:19They've outshined Volvo in their safety performance record.
- 45:24So look at that.
- 45:25Unexpected.
- 45:26That's awesome.
- 45:27That's because Volvo's also run by bean counters and can't build the
- 45:32safest car, but you make outta tinfoil.
- 45:35You know when they used to make Outta Iron Girders, the same ones that they
- 45:38built the Empire State Building out of?
- 45:40Yeah.
- 45:40Volvos were safe.
- 45:41That was available on the Volvo, two 40 wagons, iron Bridge
- 45:44girders, but not so much anymore.
- 45:46So moving right along as we fast forward to, seriously what could go wrong.
- 45:51Tanya, I'm gonna ask you this question until you get your Apple subscription.
- 45:54Nope.
- 45:54Did you watch the F1 movie?
- 45:56No.
- 45:56But apparently they're already in talks for another F1 movie.
- 46:00Are you gonna wait for the second one and watch 'em back to back?
- 46:02What would you call F1 the movie two.
- 46:06F two FU.
- 46:12We just went backwards from F1 to F two to F three.
- 46:17We're getting slower.
- 46:19God, it would be two F1.
- 46:23I have not seen it yet.
- 46:25Pose when the Apple subscription's unlocked, I suppose I will then
- 46:31Grace the movie with my eyeballs.
- 46:33We'll add it to the list.
- 46:35We'll watch it after Days of Thunder.
- 46:36There you go.
- 46:37I don't see what a sequel would bring to the table.
- 46:40Is Brad Pick gonna be in it again?
- 46:41No spoilers.
- 46:43I want all the spoil.
- 46:45Uh, all right.
- 46:47We started off this conversation talking a little bit about the Olympics
- 46:50and talking about the Super Bowl.
- 46:51So we have some winter sports and obviously, you know, we're
- 46:54gonna talk about Rolex here in a minute and stuff like that.
- 46:56So since we're in the midst of winter sports enthusiasm, I've been
- 47:01watching a lot of the ski jump.
- 47:02Mm-hmm.
- 47:03And I began to realize, you know, the old Audi commercial where he drove
- 47:07up the ski jump and how fun is that?
- 47:09And you know, how real was that?
- 47:10I guess it, apparently it was very real back in the eighties, but we haven't
- 47:14let that go in Germany of all places.
- 47:17They do car competitions in the snow up the mountain.
- 47:22Amazing.
- 47:23With all these whacked out all wheel drive cars and this video is just unreal.
- 47:29It's amazing.
- 47:30My favorite though.
- 47:31My favorite is that quantum station wagon.
- 47:34I wanna know what's in that.
- 47:36That thing was awesome.
- 47:37I mean it outdid the sport.
- 47:38Quatro Ballistically quick.
- 47:41And for those that don't know, the VW Quantum Station Wagon Synchro is
- 47:45actually an Audi 4,000 underneath.
- 47:46So it's all in the same family now.
- 47:49The Fox is the one that I was kind of scratching my head.
- 47:52'cause that shares a lot of 4,000 DNA, but that must have
- 47:55been swapped to all wheel drive.
- 47:57But that too was just a beast.
- 47:59I was like the two oldest cars there basically were like the fastest ones.
- 48:04It was, it was awesome.
- 48:05It had that powered weight ratio, that wagon, it's like a shot out of a gun.
- 48:10The RSS four wagon yellow one.
- 48:12Yeah.
- 48:13Yes.
- 48:13Yeah, it's awesome.
- 48:14It's a great, great thing.
- 48:16This is an amazing event.
- 48:17It's like, I wanna do this.
- 48:18I know.
- 48:19I love it.
- 48:19Peak.
- 48:19Peak.
- 48:20But it's snow.
- 48:21It's the slowmo instead of the schmo.
- 48:23See, they got to go up and they come across the top and
- 48:26then they come back down.
- 48:26Yeah.
- 48:26But like how stiff is that sport?
- 48:28Quatro?
- 48:28It's like a board.
- 48:30It just like, it doesn't wanna play ball at all.
- 48:33No, it just bounces air under the tires.
- 48:36No, like it's so stiff, but the sounds, can you imagine hearing all these fire
- 48:40breathing five cylinders just running up the mountain at like 9,000 rpm.
- 48:44It's amazing.
- 48:45We need to find out when this is going on.
- 48:47Next year.
- 48:48Yeah.
- 48:48Right.
- 48:49Is that black car?
- 48:49Is that a skyline?
- 48:51Yeah.
- 48:51Yeah.
- 48:52Holy shit.
- 48:53That's amazing.
- 48:54It's not just Audis.
- 48:55I'm pretty sure I saw A BMW earlier.
- 48:57Yeah.
- 48:57There was a BM BMW one series.
- 48:59Well, what's still the fastest up that hill, I think is the snowmobile.
- 49:04Oh my God.
- 49:05The skyline was doing donuts and then he hit the Yes.
- 49:08Did the snow baker?
- 49:08Yes he did.
- 49:09He did the snow machine.
- 49:10This is awesome.
- 49:11Yeah, it's good stuff.
- 49:13Last time we had asked time, you know, we're, we were, we started off
- 49:15talking about car commercials and we were supposed to find interesting car
- 49:18commercials for every drive through.
- 49:20You found something for us?
- 49:21No, no, no.
- 49:22So it's a deep fake.
- 49:23No.
- 49:24Is it really?
- 49:25It's clickbait.
- 49:26It's clickbait.
- 49:29So I was searching celebrity car commercials, right?
- 49:35And then go ahead.
- 49:36And what did I come up with?
- 49:42Make your move to Chevrolet's new celebrity.
- 49:47The Celebrity Chev.
- 49:49Oh no, I got Rick rolled.
- 49:53Watch the whole thing.
- 49:54'cause this is a 1984 baby, so we gotta shout out to the Olympics at the end.
- 49:58Oh yeah.
- 49:59Oh wow.
- 50:02Look at that styling.
- 50:04Hmm.
- 50:05$8,456. Did we convert that to today's dollars?
- 50:09What is 8,500 in 1984 In today's dollars, if it's for a Chevy, it's.
- 50:15500 lemons won't even take that car.
- 50:17$26,516 car.
- 50:21Damn.
- 50:21That's actually still pretty affordable for today's dollars.
- 50:23I wouldn't want it though for that price.
- 50:25Well, yeah.
- 50:27I'd rather have an Ultima.
- 50:28So I will warn that you can go down a rabbit hole on Celebrity
- 50:31Chevrolet or commercial that exists.
- 50:34Oh man.
- 50:35Ha ha.
- 50:35Again, seriously, what could go wrong?
- 50:37And then the celebrity Chevrolet car commercials lead to the Beretta
- 50:42Ooh Chevrolet car commercials.
- 50:44Ooh.
- 50:45And the Beretta was the Heartbeat Chevrolet.
- 50:47I drove a Beretta.
- 50:49I know somebody that owned a Beretta.
- 50:50I got her to buy a Volkswagen instead.
- 50:52It was a good move.
- 50:54But I have some leads on some actual celebrities in car commercials.
- 50:59I left this one in 'cause it Rick rolled me and then it had the Olympics tie in.
- 51:02So full circle moment.
- 51:04No book club this month 'cause I'm in the middle of reading a book.
- 51:07We will move on to rich people.
- 51:10Thanks.
- 51:14There's a Ferrari ev coming out.
- 51:17What a clever day.
- 51:19The lu chick, which means light and not 'cause it weighs little, no,
- 51:25it weighs as much as the Hummer.
- 51:26Evie co-designed by apple's.
- 51:29Johnny, ive Who Just kidding.
- 51:32I'm sure William will do a whole episode about this on the Ferrari marketplace.
- 51:36Let's just do our own little review of what we know about the
- 51:40Ferrari Luce and what everybody's raving about is its interior.
- 51:43The interior looks like a toy, right?
- 51:46Who made that toy when we were in our generation with kids and you
- 51:50had that little console of a car.
- 51:52Don't say it's the racing thing where it like moves around on the
- 51:55little black screen with the knobs.
- 51:57Not quite that, but there was the other one with the steering wheel and had like
- 52:00the little like yellow shifter thing.
- 52:02Oh, the Fisher pricey thing.
- 52:04Yay.
- 52:04I think it was the Fisher-Price thing.
- 52:05I'm not sure.
- 52:06I don't wanna offend Fisher-Price, but this reminds, gives me vibes
- 52:09of that Fisher Price store.
- 52:12I don't,
- 52:15Hey, this has the iconic three spoke studio.
- 52:20Hey, now.
- 52:22Oh, is that a speak and spell?
- 52:24What is that?
- 52:25The steering wheel thing.
- 52:26Oh, there, see, it's the modern version.
- 52:28This is the modern version.
- 52:30God, little yellow Ferrari on the center.
- 52:33You're good to go.
- 52:34Like I have mixed feelings about this.
- 52:37I really think despite the fact that the dash is like digital,
- 52:41I think it looks really cool.
- 52:42It's very like eighties Ferrari with the dials and the way they
- 52:46look, even though they're fake, but the rest of it is way too iPhone.
- 52:50Well, you said it was a dude from Apple.
- 52:52Yeah.
- 52:53It's just no.
- 52:54What do you think about it from the outside?
- 52:56You know, honestly, they've made uglier Ferraris, but it
- 52:59doesn't look like a Ferrari.
- 53:00If you painted this dark green and put some lateral aerodynamic roof rails on
- 53:06it, would this look like the Hyundai?
- 53:08Like if you took the emblems off of it, would you believe it was a genesis?
- 53:12Oh, I would believe this is a Japanese car.
- 53:13If it didn't have Ferrari badges on it.
- 53:15I like the AI Recolored yellow one that looks even.
- 53:19I don't know if this is actually the final version of it.
- 53:22So who knows what it'll actually look like.
- 53:25We all can't afford it, so there you go.
- 53:27Oh yeah, that'll be 350,000 to start for sure.
- 53:31This goes back to the Stellantis EV thing.
- 53:33Does Ferrari have to make an ev?
- 53:36This is where they lost $26 billion creating this thing that
- 53:39nobody wants, that nobody's, how well did the Pru Sangwe sell?
- 53:44If you can afford a Ferrari, I don't know why.
- 53:46You care about the price of fuel, right?
- 53:49And you probably, not all but percentage.
- 53:53You don't care about the environment either.
- 53:55Smoke, what are you saying?
- 53:58What are you, take that time.
- 53:59I'm just saying sometimes when you have too much money,
- 54:03you don't care about things.
- 54:04Well, that's rich people things.
- 54:05So, yeah, I'm sure William will do an episode about this in
- 54:09the future, but I also do want to give him a quick shout out.
- 54:13He got together with Chris Meley from Prancing Horse of Nashville to
- 54:16go behind the scenes and talk about the truth of the Bachman collection
- 54:21and the sale that happened in Mecu.
- 54:22A lot of people are still up in arms about why did they sell for so much, why this,
- 54:26why that, and blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 54:28So William called up Chris and said, Hey, you were the broker behind all this.
- 54:32Let's have a real candid conversation about what happened during the
- 54:35sale of the Bachman collection.
- 54:37So that episode is in our catalog.
- 54:39You can't get any closer to the source of truth than the guy
- 54:42that actually sold the cars.
- 54:43So check it out in our catalog and tune in for other Ferrari Marketplace
- 54:48episodes as we continue Rich people ths.
- 54:52Do we have an extra value meal this month, Tanya?
- 54:54I did not capture one this month.
- 54:56All right, well then we're gonna move right along to fan favorite.
- 55:00Are you faster than an interceptor?
- 55:17I swear we did this one already.
- 55:19'cause I remember a no, no, no.
- 55:21We talked about it, but we didn't do it.
- 55:23Is that what it is?
- 55:24Yes.
- 55:24So remember having the conversation of figuring out what it was.
- 55:27Correct, but we never talked about it on the drive through.
- 55:29Okay.
- 55:30I literally went and pulled up this last one, thinking we did it already then.
- 55:35So the first one is a Michigan MAN story, if I have that correct?
- 55:39Yes, you do.
- 55:40And apparently at the Detroit Metro Airport, McNamara Terminal.
- 55:46Someone decided that that was where the car park was and they
- 55:50blazed through, which is confusing.
- 55:53'cause then essentially they, the speed at which they were going,
- 55:57we all have been to an airport, the road and the airport terminal.
- 56:01They're parallel to each other.
- 56:03Like it's really diff it's not an intersection of some sort.
- 56:06Right.
- 56:06Like, so to carry that much speed and like enter perpendicularly into
- 56:11a building, it's quite impressive.
- 56:13And I wish there was like an outside camera.
- 56:15There is.
- 56:16I found it and then I lost the link.
- 56:18Ugh.
- 56:19He comes barreling down.
- 56:20He must like and hooks a hard right turn.
- 56:22Handbrake turn into the, into the thing.
- 56:24Yes.
- 56:25Which is a modern car.
- 56:26So there's no handbrake to pull on.
- 56:27But man, he must have just yanked all the steering wheel.
- 56:30You just cranked the wheel and then stood on it and we decided it was a Mercedes.
- 56:34Yes, it was a Mercedes.
- 56:35Maybe he, he had clear plus.
- 56:37Plus.
- 56:37That's the new perk.
- 56:38You could just drive straight into the airport.
- 56:40He thought TSA precheck would curse this.
- 56:43I love how they drag him out of there and he is wearing like a Detroit
- 56:46Lions jersey and he's just yelling like, wow, that guy went to jail.
- 56:51He did not pass, go.
- 56:53He did not collect $200.
- 56:55You think he missed his flight?
- 56:56You don't say, I think he's gonna miss many flights.
- 56:59You know how I've said before?
- 57:01Where's that guy trying to park?
- 57:03Is he trying to park in the store?
- 57:05Trying to park in the airport?
- 57:06He did.
- 57:06This guy did it.
- 57:07He's like, I can't get any closer than the Delta terminal counter.
- 57:10This reminds me of the, I don't know if you all have seen the videos of people
- 57:14doing this on Instagram when they drive past like an accident or something,
- 57:17or somebody does something stupid with their car as they're driving by, they're
- 57:21filming and they say, Hey, you can't park there at the most inopportune time.
- 57:26Well, it goes right along with this next one, which is same, same but different.
- 57:30Brad, this is in your great state of Virginia.
- 57:33I'll read the headline.
- 57:34Car on Metro TrackX shuts down traffic on I 66.
- 57:38That's impressive.
- 57:39Yeah.
- 57:39I don't consider Fairfax County part of Virginia.
- 57:41That's Maryland adjacent right there.
- 57:44Hey, it's below.
- 57:44It's on the other side of the river.
- 57:46That's yours and you can keep it.
- 57:48No, no, no, no.
- 57:50We'll, we'll take Tiger Woods.
- 57:52So if you look, I don't know exactly where this is on 66.
- 57:55I'm sure I've passed it at some point, but they're basically a ramp.
- 57:59So he must have like ramped shot over the fence and landed on the tracks.
- 58:04He went full Bo Duke.
- 58:07Yeah, this is Duke's a hazard right here.
- 58:09Honestly, at first I was like, how do you do that?
- 58:11But then seeing the ramp, you could a hundred percent jump that fence.
- 58:15And end up on the tracks.
- 58:17And what does that look like?
- 58:18A Honda?
- 58:19I'm trying to tell by the lights.
- 58:20I think it might be a Hyundai.
- 58:22Or It's a Honda.
- 58:23It's one or the, it's close.
- 58:24It's probably a Honda though.
- 58:26Can't tell.
- 58:26It's not an Ultima.
- 58:27Actually, if it had been an Ultima, he would've driven away from this.
- 58:30Yes.
- 58:30They would've caught him driving down the railroad tracks at like 80 miles an hour.
- 58:35Because it would've survived.
- 58:36Because as you said, the Altima is here for all of it.
- 58:40Yes.
- 58:40It's, I like how they say it's an unauthorized car.
- 58:45I, you know, excuse me, sir. You're unauthorized.
- 58:48You can't be here.
- 58:50I dare say that.
- 58:51Yes, that was unauthorized.
- 58:55It was not a car with the, uh, train wheels on it that was meant to be
- 59:00going down the tracks for service.
- 59:02Yeah.
- 59:03Well, Brad, you brought us this next one.
- 59:05I didn't actually read it,
- 59:09so let's all read it together.
- 59:12Florida man arrested after 13 hit and run crashes on Valentine's Day.
- 59:18Oh yeah.
- 59:19Over the course of like five hours.
- 59:22Five and a half hours.
- 59:23Police report.
- 59:24The 34-year-old is a Florida resident that lives at him as currently homeless.
- 59:29No, he lives in the jail.
- 59:30That's where he lives right now.
- 59:33He covered 80 miles smashing into cars and Chevy Colorado is in rough shape.
- 59:39No shit.
- 59:40Was this a whistling diesel?
- 59:42No, I'm just kidding.
- 59:43It kind of looks like that, doesn't it?
- 59:44You know, they don't talk much.
- 59:46The Florida men or what?
- 59:47We don't know anything.
- 59:48Like why was he drunk?
- 59:50Was he on drugs?
- 59:50Was there an alligator in the car with him?
- 59:52It's, it's none of that.
- 59:53We just, it's not a very well written Florida man story, but it
- 59:57was a Valentine's Day Florida man.
- 59:59Story.
- 59:59Story.
- 59:59It's important that we highlighted it.
- 1:00:01Vehicular nonsense.
- 1:00:02On Valentine's Day, man.
- 1:00:04This was in Virginia as well.
- 1:00:06Starting to see a pattern here.
- 1:00:07It was a Florida man in Virginia.
- 1:00:09Yeah.
- 1:00:09Yes.
- 1:00:10Oh, you're right.
- 1:00:11You are right.
- 1:00:12Sylvania County.
- 1:00:14Did he crash his way up from Florida?
- 1:00:19Yeah, these are just the Virginia cars.
- 1:00:21They're still, oh man.
- 1:00:22You know the Carolinas in Georgia down there.
- 1:00:25Oh man.
- 1:00:26This next one is like that song.
- 1:00:27What's that song?
- 1:00:28About how she slashes the seats of the car and the tires and
- 1:00:32like she vandalizes the jeep.
- 1:00:33What?
- 1:00:33How's that song?
- 1:00:34Louisville Slugger.
- 1:00:35That's how the song goes.
- 1:00:37The Louisville Slugger to his taillights.
- 1:00:39Some some something.
- 1:00:40Something something Something something.
- 1:00:42Something something.
- 1:00:43Keep Your Day Job.
- 1:00:45Oh, carry Underwood song.
- 1:00:46Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:47That would, you can sing it for us, Brad.
- 1:00:49Yeah.
- 1:00:49Pancakes and sausage and stuff.
- 1:00:51Yeah.
- 1:00:52I, I came, yeah.
- 1:00:52I can't sing Gary Underwood.
- 1:00:53Sorry, I don't remember that song.
- 1:00:55It's like god knows how old now.
- 1:00:572005. It's 20 years old.
- 1:01:01Play it on the radio.
- 1:01:02Like if it was just yesterday.
- 1:01:03'cause you're listening to the oldie station.
- 1:01:05Yeah.
- 1:01:06Right.
- 1:01:06What is going on here?
- 1:01:08Apparently this dude at the Publix, he mistook the SUV that was parked
- 1:01:15there thinking it was his ex. And so in a fit of rage of revenge and God
- 1:01:20knows what are the drugs they were on, basically, I think took a hammer.
- 1:01:24It started like beating on the car, except it was actually a Publix employee's car.
- 1:01:32It had nothing to do with this person.
- 1:01:35Oh wow.
- 1:01:36Can you imagine?
- 1:01:37Can you imagine coming outside and it's like your car is destroyed like this?
- 1:01:42Oh, that's terrible.
- 1:01:43What is in the water down there?
- 1:01:45That's what I wanna know.
- 1:01:46I dunno.
- 1:01:49Well, on that note, it's time we go behind the pit wall.
- 1:01:51Talk about,
- 1:01:55I don't even know what to say about this one.
- 1:01:56IJ maybe I should just read the headline.
- 1:01:58President Trump celebrates American greatness with the Freedom two
- 1:02:0350 Grand Prix of Washington DC sounds like a terrible idea.
- 1:02:08Indie cars in DC I mean, I guess, Hey, DC's finally gonna get paved the streets.
- 1:02:14No, there's no chance in hell.
- 1:02:16They didn't pave Baltimore when they ran the Grand Prix there.
- 1:02:20You think they're gonna pave dc?
- 1:02:22Yeah, right.
- 1:02:23What about the manhole cover?
- 1:02:24They're gonna have the same problem that F1 has in Vegas with manhole
- 1:02:27covers flying off everywhere.
- 1:02:29Well, we're not gonna make it one laugh of this race then.
- 1:02:31It's never gonna happen.
- 1:02:32It's gonna be terrible.
- 1:02:33Well, there's that.
- 1:02:33There's just gonna race in their dailies.
- 1:02:36Somebody asked what the ticket prices were gonna be for this.
- 1:02:39And I said, they're gonna be huge.
- 1:02:46They can pay me to stay away.
- 1:02:48Yeah, a hundred percent.
- 1:02:49That's the day I take a vacation on the other side of the country.
- 1:02:52Wait, were you guys aware that the Daytona 500 happened this weekend?
- 1:02:57I was aware we are not going to, we're not gonna mention the Daytona 500.
- 1:03:01We're not gonna mention the massive crass on the last lap that wiped out like
- 1:03:05half the field or something like that.
- 1:03:06Oh no, the, the, yeah, the, the complete insanity that was the last lap that
- 1:03:11basically handed, it didn't hand.
- 1:03:13Michael Jordan's team number 45.
- 1:03:16The win, I can't name three drivers in NASCAR right now.
- 1:03:20The only reason I know about it's 'cause I was at a bar watching the
- 1:03:22hockey game and then it ended and then there were like five laps left.
- 1:03:25So you saw the most important part of the race.
- 1:03:27Then of course it's the most important part of anything the last five minutes.
- 1:03:31And that's sad to say because it is NASCAR month and all of our coverage
- 1:03:34on the empty N is NASCAR related.
- 1:03:36But I, I haven't followed NASCAR in a while.
- 1:03:39Like I, I think I'm just stuck in the eighties with nascar like
- 1:03:42Rusty Wallace still out there.
- 1:03:43We got what days have done had I not been out already watching something
- 1:03:47else, I would not have known.
- 1:03:49You would've missed it all together.
- 1:03:50Yeah.
- 1:03:50I would, would've missed it all together.
- 1:03:51Yeah.
- 1:03:52Yeah.
- 1:03:52Um, but yeah, congratulations to Tyler Reddick and his number 45 car and
- 1:03:57the Michael Jordan team for finally getting that big win at Daytona
- 1:04:01and didn't Biffle pass or something recently too, like that was in the
- 1:04:04news as well as with respect to nascar.
- 1:04:06Um, by, you mean die in a plane crash?
- 1:04:09Yes.
- 1:04:10I was trying to be nice about it tragically with his family.
- 1:04:12Yes.
- 1:04:13Yeah.
- 1:04:13Yeah.
- 1:04:13That's the, uh, sad news there too.
- 1:04:17Hmm.
- 1:04:18Much like the Super Bowl this year's Rolex, the 60th anniversary race.
- 1:04:23Oh my God, was it boring?
- 1:04:25Why is everything on Peacock so boring?
- 1:04:27There were 900,000 Olympic commercials, which made the coverage
- 1:04:31just completely meh to go along with their meh commercial that they
- 1:04:34show all the time for YouTube tv.
- 1:04:36It was really hard to watch.
- 1:04:37I don't know what it was about this race.
- 1:04:39And then we had what that fog delay in the middle of the night.
- 1:04:42So if you went to sleep like I did, 'cause you're like, man,
- 1:04:44there's nothing to watch right now.
- 1:04:45You didn't miss anything when you got up in the morning.
- 1:04:47It was such a bad race.
- 1:04:49And then I don't understand Porsche, well, it's Penske, right,
- 1:04:53because Porsche retired the 9 63.
- 1:04:56But the 9 63 is still competing this year, but we're not gonna
- 1:04:58see it at Lamont unless Penske, you know, it's like a whole thing.
- 1:05:01Realistically, the most interesting thing about the whole race.
- 1:05:06Was that battle between the GT Amateur class, not even the pros.
- 1:05:10Everybody was so spread apart.
- 1:05:12It was the amateurs between the Mercedes and the Aston.
- 1:05:15And I was like, what are we watching?
- 1:05:18Yeah, I didn't get to watch much of the race.
- 1:05:19You didn't miss much, apparently.
- 1:05:21Well, since we're talking about Rolex, Tanya, you watched the race.
- 1:05:24I think the most exciting part was the new Reptile tire technology.
- 1:05:29Remember that?
- 1:05:29I didn't watch the race.
- 1:05:30We talked about the reptile tires.
- 1:05:33Remember they looked like crocodile print and how Michelin is all about
- 1:05:37sustainability and it's made from like 90% recycled materials and, but then
- 1:05:41they had all those issues when it got cold so the tires wouldn't stick so that
- 1:05:45everybody's like flying off the track.
- 1:05:47Now I remember.
- 1:05:48Only watched for like an hour.
- 1:05:49Well, you didn't miss much.
- 1:05:50So out of the other 23 that were there, it was like me.
- 1:05:54So anyway, there's some more news shaking up the endurance car world.
- 1:05:58The FIA is bringing about a new streaming service and they're combining it with wec.
- 1:06:04So they have FIA we plus streaming service because does this mean
- 1:06:07it's not gonna be on HBO anymore?
- 1:06:09It says here it's the goal is delivering a significantly improved
- 1:06:12streaming service with access to all FIA we content worldwide.
- 1:06:16So that should include the 24 hours of lamont.
- 1:06:18Did you ever watch any of the Super bike races on HBO?
- 1:06:21No, I didn't.
- 1:06:22Did you?
- 1:06:23I tried, but the color was weird.
- 1:06:25Like wasn't an HDR or It didn't, it wasn't compatible with my HDR tv, so
- 1:06:30it looked all gray and washed out.
- 1:06:32Oh wow.
- 1:06:33Which may me not wanna launch.
- 1:06:34Yeah.
- 1:06:35And it says we are pleased to confirm that all FIA WEC races will be
- 1:06:39available in the United States in Canada with no GEOBLOCKING restrictions.
- 1:06:44Most notably the 24 hours LAMA will be available live on FIA WEC
- 1:06:48streaming platform for the first time ever in the United States.
- 1:06:51Marketing in major milestone and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:06:53Marketing, marketing, marketing, marketing.
- 1:06:55I don't know what this means because isn't there a lot of shuffling going
- 1:06:59on at HBO because it's partnered with Warner Brothers and all that other
- 1:07:03stuff and maybe Netflix is buying it so that the FIA say, you know what, we're
- 1:07:07not here for this guy as we're just gonna go do our own streaming platform.
- 1:07:11Maybe.
- 1:07:12Maybe no hobo Max for WEC races anymore.
- 1:07:15So that was like a two year run, getting outta racing.
- 1:07:18All right.
- 1:07:18Well, a quick update on the virtual stuff I've mentioned in the past.
- 1:07:21You know, I've got some of the newer titles been trying 'em out.
- 1:07:24A SETO corset, Evo just got updated to version 0.5.
- 1:07:28We're not even a version 1.0.
- 1:07:30But 0.5 just got pushed the other day.
- 1:07:32Bunch of new cars.
- 1:07:33There's like seven of them and then there's two new tracks.
- 1:07:36Gotta say Watkins Glen is one of the new tracks and it is spot on.
- 1:07:42It's the new track, definitely laser scanned.
- 1:07:45It is really good.
- 1:07:47Just very well done.
- 1:07:48Now as far as the cars go, not gonna list all of 'em, you know,
- 1:07:51new nine 11 new, this new that they introduced the Audi Sport Quattro.
- 1:07:55It's an absolute beast.
- 1:08:14They brought the mark one GTI, and to keep with realism.
- 1:08:17It is slower than slow.
- 1:08:42It struggles to get to a hundred miles an hour.
- 1:08:44But it is an absolute riot when you're out there with 25 other ones
- 1:08:48just beating the doors and, and going bumper to bumper down the track.
- 1:08:52Now, the surprise of surprises because their little trailer video, which I
- 1:08:55shared with you guys, which I thought was super entertaining when they revealed
- 1:08:59version 0.5 at the very end, there's this whole kind of initial DA 86 and
- 1:09:04then they kind of forecast what's gonna come in the next release, which is
- 1:09:07gonna be Sebring and a bunch of stuff.
- 1:09:09So that a 86, I was like, you know, I'm gonna try that out.
- 1:09:12I mean, again, these cars are talking to me, they're all from the eighties.
- 1:09:16I'm loving it.
- 1:09:16And so I'm looking through the cars.
- 1:09:19There's a couple different versions of the original 80 86.
- 1:09:22There's the black and white, there's the all black, there's, you know, whatever.
- 1:09:26And then at the end there's the Fuji Tofu Shop, one from initial
- 1:09:30D, and I'm like, oh, that's cool.
- 1:09:31Well, they kind of did the skin and it's a little blurry so it doesn't look exactly
- 1:09:35like, you know, and they don't get any copyright infringement or whatever it is.
- 1:09:39I decided, you know, after doing a bunch of laps at Watkins Glen, I was
- 1:09:43like, oh, I'm gonna go to Laguna Seka instead, and I'll try the Toyota there.
- 1:09:46And it runs in the same class as the Audi and some of the other cars, you
- 1:09:50know, the BMWM three and the Mercedes 2.3 Evo and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:09:55I looked down at the dash and I'm like, does that say that?
- 1:09:59Does that doesn't say, no, it can't.
- 1:10:01It says 10 10.
- 1:10:0310 ISN in 10,000 RPM and I'm like, nah, that's, that's a joke.
- 1:10:07Light turns green.
- 1:10:08Drop the clutch.
- 1:10:27This sucker is like straight up race car.
- 1:10:30Like it sounds amazing and you bury the needle at 10 grand because just
- 1:10:36like the initial D 80, 86, it pulls to 11 and it's just all of awesome.
- 1:10:42So I'm like, okay, so it's the initial D car.
- 1:10:45Maybe they're all that way and they're just skins.
- 1:10:47Oh, no, no.
- 1:10:48This is like the jewel that they didn't tell you about in the promo videos.
- 1:10:53This is a special car.
- 1:10:54It's not just a skin.
- 1:10:56All the other regular 80, 80 sixes you get into.
- 1:11:157,000 RPM.
- 1:11:16It's got that nice Toyota twin cam sound, but it doesn't sound like a
- 1:11:20formula car like the other one does.
- 1:11:23The driving experience is awesome.
- 1:11:25Like you can hang the ass out, you can drift it all over the
- 1:11:28place and it's just wicked quick.
- 1:11:31So I found that to be an awesome surprise and if you haven't done it and you haven't
- 1:11:35tried it yet, cannot recommend upgrading to version 0.5 just for the smile factor
- 1:11:42that comes from the initial DA 86.
- 1:11:46And by the way, they made the F 40 worse, so it's like impossible to drive.
- 1:11:49So I'm gonna be having fun driving the Toyota for sure.
- 1:11:52Kudos to the a Seto course of guys Speed.
- 1:11:55They might be slow rolling this thing, but it's, it's getting better with
- 1:11:58every release except for the F 40.
- 1:12:00In other racing news, I don't know really where to qualify the 12 hours of bathhurst
- 1:12:05because it's sort of endurance racing, but it's sort of just crazy Australian V eight
- 1:12:11supercar guys decide to drive something that isn't a muscle car for 12 hours.
- 1:12:15Bathhurst is a mess every year, and I know a lot of people watch it for the crashes.
- 1:12:20And the crashes are unfortunate.
- 1:12:22And this year.
- 1:12:23More so than ever.
- 1:12:24Mercedes a MG factory driver, Roth Aaron fractured his back in a very
- 1:12:29serious accident at Mount Panorama.
- 1:12:32And we have the link to the video and we have a link to the follow on article.
- 1:12:35I mean, I watched it and I was completely blown away.
- 1:12:39I was really surprised that the corner workers didn't flag earlier.
- 1:12:43It reminds me of the races at like, it's like Macau or whatever, where
- 1:12:47they go those super narrow roads where there's only room for one
- 1:12:50car and then they all pile up and the race is over by like lap three.
- 1:12:53'cause they're all, you know, I, I don't know what the racers are doing.
- 1:12:56They are, you're not situationally aware like what the hell is going on.
- 1:12:59It's really unfortunate what happened.
- 1:13:00Rough.
- 1:13:01And you know, we wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back behind
- 1:13:04the wheel of a Mercedes again soon.
- 1:13:06But it's stuff like that that really makes you question the safety of racing in 2026.
- 1:13:11I think it's amazing.
- 1:13:12I really do believe Bathurst is probably one of the most
- 1:13:15dangerous tracks that's out there.
- 1:13:16I love that track, but it's also super sketch.
- 1:13:19Oh yeah, for sure.
- 1:13:21But I, it's still amazing.
- 1:13:23So you missed a piece of Rally news.
- 1:13:27I thought we weren't talking about, I thought I wasn't
- 1:13:29allowed to talk about that.
- 1:13:30I never said that.
- 1:13:31No one listens, but you're allowed to talk about it.
- 1:13:33So what piece of Rally news did I miss?
- 1:13:35A US.
- 1:13:36Rally stage.
- 1:13:37Yes, you're right.
- 1:13:38I forgot.
- 1:13:39I I am following that as a matter of fact.
- 1:13:41So WRC is scouting out areas like around Tennessee to see if they can
- 1:13:46Kentucky, do a WRC America round.
- 1:13:49And I, and if that happens, I'm gonna go check it out.
- 1:13:51I think that's super awesome.
- 1:13:53There you go.
- 1:13:53Thank you for reminding me.
- 1:13:54I'll go with you.
- 1:13:55Let's go meet Terry Neville.
- 1:13:57Yes', be perfect.
- 1:13:58Well, our Motorsports News is brought to you in part by Enduro
- 1:14:01verse, powered by Hyper Dev.
- 1:14:03Endur Averse is America's premier endurance racing community.
- 1:14:06Check it out online today and become a member@www.enduraverse.com.
- 1:14:11Alright, well it's time for the GTM Trackside report, and as promised,
- 1:14:15we're gonna give you an update on our unfocused Performance Lemons project.
- 1:14:20It has stalled thanks to two feet of snow, which turned into permafrost and
- 1:14:25glaciers boxing the cars in the trailers, and so we haven't been able to get it
- 1:14:30out to our fabricator to put the cage in.
- 1:14:32But that is coming up quick.
- 1:14:33By the time we have the next drive through episode, hopefully it'll
- 1:14:36be off to get the wrap done and get all the styling stuff done.
- 1:14:40We do still have a way for you to contribute and be part of the team.
- 1:14:43We'll include that in the show notes.
- 1:14:44You know, we are looking to raise some money if you want to come and help out,
- 1:14:46hang out, all those kinds of things.
- 1:14:48The details are in the link in the show notes with this episode.
- 1:14:52But since we're taking on this new project and all of us are checking our
- 1:14:56safety gear, and there's been some public service announcements from various tracks
- 1:15:01around at least the East coast, talking about how if you're planning to come
- 1:15:06to the track this year, they've taken a year away from you that you normally
- 1:15:11have a grace year on your helmet.
- 1:15:13Expirations.
- 1:15:14You can correct me if I'm wrong, 'cause you've been in the
- 1:15:16sport a lot longer than I have.
- 1:15:17Was that.
- 1:15:18Extra year, that grace year kind of due to like supply chain issues
- 1:15:24with being able to get access.
- 1:15:25So maybe the supply chain issues aren't as much of a problem anymore.
- 1:15:29So you don't really have that excuse to lean on.
- 1:15:32You just need to stop being a cheap ass and upgrade your
- 1:15:34equipment when you need to.
- 1:15:362020 was really the bad year because that was the COVID year.
- 1:15:40Yeah, but the grace period had always been there because to your point,
- 1:15:43when they say they're gonna make a 2025 helmet, they start making them
- 1:15:47in 2025 and then they have to have enough supply and it becomes an issue
- 1:15:52and it takes almost a full year before there's enough out there that people can
- 1:15:56actually get that year's helmet in hand.
- 1:15:58So you sort of lose a year, but you gain a year on the other side.
- 1:16:02But now the tracks are saying, Nope.
- 1:16:04We have said that even though the industry says 11 years is fine, it's gotta be
- 1:16:0810 and you have to buy a new helmet.
- 1:16:09So if you're going to places like New Jersey or a Lime Rock
- 1:16:13and you have a SA 2015 helmet.
- 1:16:16You cannot use it this year.
- 1:16:18They're checking helmets, they're being strict about it.
- 1:16:19You need to buy a new helmet.
- 1:16:21You do not get the grace year through 2026.
- 1:16:24So if you're looking to get a good deal on helmets, reach out
- 1:16:27to our friends at OG racing.
- 1:16:29Ask for Mark Francis at or mark@ogracing.com.
- 1:16:33Email him directly.
- 1:16:34Tell them the guys from Grand Tour Motorsport sent you.
- 1:16:37And same is true for Limerock.
- 1:16:39Like I said, NJMP and Limerock are strictly enforcing the role that you need.
- 1:16:43A new helmet 2020 or newer rated helmets, even if you're in New England and you have
- 1:16:49stable energies nearby, they're offering a 15% discount to Audi Club members
- 1:16:55if you're shopping for a new helmet.
- 1:16:57Also, they usually sell helmets at the track too.
- 1:17:01They've got the, the pro shops at each track where you can get
- 1:17:03a helmet if you're in a pinch.
- 1:17:04I don't know.
- 1:17:05I guess you could go either way.
- 1:17:06There's no financial gain in it for the racetracks because
- 1:17:09they're not selling the helmet.
- 1:17:11Right.
- 1:17:11And the pro shops a lot of times are independent of the racetrack.
- 1:17:14Like those people actually lease the space from the track and they're running their
- 1:17:17small business and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:17:19Like OG Racing has its shop at Summit Point as well as their
- 1:17:23main shop there in Sterling.
- 1:17:24You know, that doesn't benefit the track.
- 1:17:26They're just cracking down and saying, no, you gotta go buy a new helmet.
- 1:17:28Because they are safety conscious and they're safety cautious
- 1:17:31and we're litigious country.
- 1:17:32So it is.
- 1:17:33It is what it is, right?
- 1:17:34Yeah.
- 1:17:34So, but yeah, I mean, I'm still good on my helmet for a while.
- 1:17:38I know what I'm buying if I buy another one, you know, I'm pretty
- 1:17:40brand loyal and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:17:42But for those that haven't thought about it, as we're coming out of hibernation
- 1:17:46and looking to the track season and the schedules are starting to open up, now's
- 1:17:49the time to not only check your helmet.
- 1:17:51Check your shoes, check your gloves, check your Hans.
- 1:17:54If you have a Simpson, make sure all the straps are up to date.
- 1:17:57Like if you co-term all the dates of your stuff, they're all
- 1:18:00gonna be due at the same time.
- 1:18:01And that goes for your belts in your car.
- 1:18:04If you're using harnesses as well as your seats, you gotta check
- 1:18:07the organizations to make sure the seats are still valid too.
- 1:18:10How the seats expire, I don't know, has to do with the fire safety rating.
- 1:18:14Go back to our PMX episode with John Koffi.
- 1:18:16He kind of actually explains how all that works and the
- 1:18:19dates and and why and whatnot.
- 1:18:21But that's pretty far back in the catalog.
- 1:18:23But yeah, there is rhyme and reason to this whole thing, Brad.
- 1:18:25Yeah.
- 1:18:26And if you're not quite ready to hit the track, don't forget that you can
- 1:18:29find tons of upcoming local shows and events at the ultimate reference for car
- 1:18:32enthusiasts, collector car guide.net.

- 1:19:48Okay?
- 1:19:52I have to go to the videotape.
- 1:19:53Let's see, 2026.
- 1:19:55Let's pull up the replay.
- 1:19:58Are you muting the Olympics?
- 1:20:01Yeah, man.
- 1:20:01What are you watching?
- 1:20:03I don't know, because I gotta turn it on.
- 1:20:04I don't know what's on Earlier.
- 1:20:06It was the big hill ski jump.
- 1:20:07Well, actually it was the Nordic combined, but they were only
- 1:20:10showing the ski jump part.
- 1:20:12That's good stuff.
- 1:20:14Oh, well obviously I could just turn the volume all the way
- 1:20:16down the old fashioned meat way.
- 1:20:20It's the first time she's said to go get a snack
- 1:20:25that we've seen
- 1:20:28and consider becoming, shoot.
- 1:20:32I actually don't see the outside pictures.
- 1:20:34I had to go to a car and driver article.
- 1:20:36I'll just Google it.
- 1:20:38I don't know why it went to Yahoo though.
- 1:20:40Yahoo.
- 1:20:40Fucking Yahoo.
