Transcript
- 0:04Hi, good afternoon. Welcome Miller and Condon on a
- 0:07Tuesday, the Iowa Sports Radio Network.
- 0:10Let's fire it back up for the next 6 hours of sports
- 0:13conversation. Trent and I will do two of them,
- 0:15Miller and Condon noon to two off the bench coming up from
- 0:192:00 until 5:00 and then overtime Iowa tonight.
- 0:22Actually, there is no overtime. Iowa tonight is.
- 0:25How about that? We've got the.
- 0:26First four, yeah, we do. Underway a courtesy of our
- 0:29friends at Westwood one both tonight and tomorrow and then
- 0:32lock in on Thursday and Friday if you're at work bring a do you
- 0:36still is there still such a thing as a transistor radio?
- 0:39Do you know what that? Is I?
- 0:40I know it, I've heard of it. I never used.
- 0:43One Never put one under your pillow at night, listening to
- 0:46the radio as you fell asleep and you didn't want your mom to come
- 0:49and find. It, I just had a radio.
- 0:51I just had a boom box. Yeah, a little boom box.
- 0:54I guess there's what I. Been out of the pillow would
- 0:56have been uncomfortable. Right.
- 0:57Yeah. I mean, it was probably, I don't
- 0:59know, maybe 6 by 18, something like.
- 1:03Transistor was the size of a. Wallet, yeah, didn't have one of
- 1:06those, but heard the story certainly and.
- 1:09Lived the story, actually. Yes, listening to WCCO Listen to
- 1:12Twins broadcast. Yeah, CCO, boy, that was a that
- 1:15was a big signal. Oh, absolutely.
- 1:17One of my favorite things to do is I'd go out in the yard.
- 1:20Yeah. And I would get my boom box with
- 1:22batteries in it. Yeah, finding batteries, it's
- 1:25not like. The big battery.
- 1:26Right, yeah, You gotta put the four with D's in there.
- 1:28The D's, Yeah. And go out there and then just
- 1:30play the game in my yard. So the yard.
- 1:32You would play the Twins game. The Twins.
- 1:34Game in the Yard and. So a lot of losing as a kid.
- 1:38Oh, absolutely. This was probably, you know, in
- 1:40the late 80s. So there was maybe. 87. 8788,
- 1:43Absolutely. So my parents owned the bar and
- 1:46we lived right next door. Perfect.
- 1:48But it was surrounded by these hedges, so it kind of looked
- 1:51like Wrigley Field. Nice.
- 1:53In right field of my yard and the way that I had set up was my
- 1:56great Grandma Bell's house, Grandma Isabel.
- 1:59And her house was painted a light green.
- 2:03OK, so I had the green monster in right field.
- 2:06How about that? So I tried to tip opposite shots
- 2:08over the green monster in right field.
- 2:10Had the hedges all around. It was for me growing up in a
- 2:14town of 40 people, that's all, And not a whole lot of friends.
- 2:16Yeah, because there weren't any other did.
- 2:18You do the cheering too when you're oh.
- 2:21Yeah, yeah, round in the bases. Carmi Pocket has done it again.
- 2:25Good for you. That's really.
- 2:27That's cool. Yeah.
- 2:28Anyways, I have no idea how we got here, where we where we
- 2:31started the show, but here we are.
- 2:33So let's get into it. We move closer to to March
- 2:37Madness. We talked about the 1st 4:00
- 2:39tonight, tomorrow and then all day Thursday, all day Friday.
- 2:43Friday we do lose coverage at 6:45 the Iowa Wild play.
- 2:49So we'll have wall to wall coverage Thursday and up until
- 2:52the wild play on Friday. But by then hopefully most of
- 2:55you are home and you can turn on the bar or at a bar.
- 2:58Yep, or at a bar. Friend's house.
- 3:00Yep, What's bars going to be like today?
- 3:02Probably not what they anticipated, right?
- 3:04There's been some beautiful Saint Patty's days, right?
- 3:07Exactly. This not going to be one of
- 3:08them, though. It's better than yesterday
- 3:10because there's no wind. Did you put your green on today?
- 3:13No, I forgot all about it actually until I was driving in.
- 3:15I see you did. I I did.
- 3:16I remembered. Yeah.
- 3:17You're lucky you're not at our house.
- 3:18But is there? Oh, that you'd be pinched.
- 3:21Yeah. Forgot to pinch you when I saw
- 3:23you today. I.
- 3:24Forgot about that is an old thing.
- 3:26So no, No, but spent many Saint Patty's days at Sully's back in
- 3:31the day. Is that where you went?
- 3:32Oh. Been there.
- 3:32Yeah. With the tent, yes the outdoor
- 3:34Oh my God chilly ones was packed but some really nice ones too.
- 3:39I remember watching the Xavier, Ohio State, that ridiculous game
- 3:44at Sully's. Really.
- 3:46So went inside, found a little TV, one of the TV's that they
- 3:49had upset up there, and probably sat underneath that TV for a
- 3:53good 90 straight minutes just watching that one.
- 3:55Of maybe 2 TV's back in the day. Yeah, that sounds about right.
- 3:57Yeah. What did that been 2006
- 3:59something like that it. Was the 90s for me.
- 4:02Yes, a little bit earlier than what I got here, but yeah, see,
- 4:05Patrick stayed. Not quite what it wants to know
- 4:07when you get a little. Older.
- 4:08I'm with you. All right, let's get a couple of
- 4:10things. Let's talk about the trade in
- 4:11the NFL. It's pretty big trade.
- 4:13Yeah, Denver has now found a wide receiver.
- 4:16They gave up their 30th pick overall in the first round, so
- 4:19pick 30. Then they gave up the 30th pick
- 4:21in the third round. And they gave up their 30th pick
- 4:25in the fourth round. And in exchange, they got Jalen
- 4:28Waddle, who was the 6th overall pick in his draft year, 2021.
- 4:33And they moved up in the fourth round.
- 4:34So instead of picking 1:30 in the fourth, they're now picking
- 4:37111, which is a a win there. Like I just, and I like Waddle.
- 4:41I just wish he was Six 2, not 510.
- 4:43Sure, you know, and maybe it's just the fact that I'm, I'm, I'm
- 4:46tired of my hockey team trading from 5 foot 9 defencemen.
- 4:49We're going to get pushed around every single game.
- 4:52It doesn't work in the NHL. Stop doing that.
- 4:55Get somebody that's 6364. But Waddle can fly, obviously.
- 4:58He's 1000 yard a year type of receiver.
- 5:01They needed that. Denver was I think a a couple of
- 5:06skill positions away from being a major player again this year.
- 5:09They got a great offensive line. Their defense is set, their
- 5:11kicker is set. When Dobbins went down to the
- 5:14running back position, that was a blow.
- 5:17And RJ Harvey's a nice player, but he's a rookie.
- 5:20Yep, I'm with you. With that offensive line, I
- 5:22thought he would be. More, he's great in the passing.
- 5:26Game. Yes, absolutely.
- 5:27But he struggled to run the football.
- 5:30It got better as the year went on.
- 5:31But Dobbins is back and now they find a a wide receiver to go
- 5:34along with Mims and Bryant and Courtland Sutton who's getting a
- 5:38little long in the tooth as well.
- 5:40But they had to give up something to get something.
- 5:42But when you look, I mean, the Colts gave up Michael Pittman,
- 5:45who's got just as good a numbers over the last five years for a
- 5:49sixth round pick 1/6 and Denver gave up a one and a three and
- 5:54then switched positions in the 4th.
- 5:55So it did affect the odds. They were 20 to 1 yesterday.
- 6:00They're 18 to 1 today. I actually bet Denver yesterday.
- 6:03You did. I did because I saw a piece with
- 6:05a key to Lieb and he was with Oh, the loudmouth not there's a
- 6:10lot of. Them that doesn't that really
- 6:12doesn't Daryl things. Skip, Skip Bayless, Skip Bayless
- 6:16and keep to Lieb said, mark this down and remember where you
- 6:20heard it first. Denver's about to get a very
- 6:23skilled player and he left it at that.
- 6:25Wow, Like he had some inside information.
- 6:27So that was good enough for me. And it was after 8:30 and I
- 6:30decided, you know what, let's open it up and get involved a
- 6:33little bit. So I took Denver with Houston to
- 6:35make it to the Final Four, Denver with Duke, I think to
- 6:39make it to the Final Four and then outright 20 to 1 anyways.
- 6:42So it's. Going to be a good February for.
- 6:43You. Well, it could be.
- 6:44It could be that. That's certainly the goal.
- 6:47We shall see. So obviously we are 24 hours
- 6:50removed from yesterday's show. I'm guessing you spent maybe not
- 6:53wall to wall time with the bracket in front of you a lot.
- 6:56I bet you did. Right, Yeah, I I found a really
- 6:59good breakdown. Of which of, of a region or of?
- 7:03Everything. So let me find where it came
- 7:05from. So it's from Yahoo.
- 7:06Well, I write Frank Schwab's piece, and he has all the
- 7:09gambling odds, which was incredible, but he also had a
- 7:13breakaway from it from another writer at Yahoo.
- 7:16And you talk about coverage. The thing is, absolutely.
- 7:19Matt Eisenberg, I don't know if you've seen that.
- 7:20I've heard of him. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 7:22He's been with Yahoo for a long time, too.
- 7:23Their college basketball writer his NCAA Tournament guide with
- 7:27both just numbers and also a gambling angle to it.
- 7:31I dove deep into. That, and it's free.
- 7:33It's free, so find him on Twitter.
- 7:35I'll find Frank's article. You can find it there also if
- 7:38you're looking for a deep dive. It was too much.
- 7:40If you don't talk about overwhelming, just in terms of
- 7:43the information that was in there.
- 7:45I have a couple of takeaways to step back from yesterday.
- 7:48Couple of things as we re evaluate.
- 7:50And that's what you're always doing.
- 7:52I want to start at the top and like you, I like Arizona.
- 7:55I love the team, I love the way they're built.
- 7:58And something just popped into my mind yesterday.
- 8:01I just heard something in passing.
- 8:02I'm like, I don't like Tommy Lloyd.
- 8:05I think he sucks as a coach for the talent that he has.
- 8:07You've made that clear. I think Tommy Lloyd is off, but
- 8:11I go back to, well, probably 364 days ago, remember saying the
- 8:15same thing about Todd. Golden.
- 8:16Golden, yeah. Todd Golden never won an NCAA
- 8:18tournament game. He had a loaded team.
- 8:20He. Won six of them last.
- 8:21Year he won six in a row and he won a national championship.
- 8:24So yes, talent can overcome coaching question marks, I guess
- 8:30is a way now. I I've always liked Todd Golden
- 8:32as a coach going back to his days at San Francisco.
- 8:35You probably heard me all right. I'm on the the Dons here tonight
- 8:38in San Francisco. And you know what do you know
- 8:40about them? I knew Ty Golden.
- 8:41I I love the way that he runs offense.
- 8:42Always liked him going back to his days and assistant coach so
- 8:46different for me than Tommy Lloyd.
- 8:48Still, that at least made me hesitates a little bit more just
- 8:52to have Arizona be a cross off to win a national champion
- 8:55because they're. Loaded, they got the talent.
- 8:56They're absolutely loaded and they can overcome Tommy Lloyd.
- 9:00Yeah, who sucks? And they have for the entire
- 9:01season, if you put it that. Way yes, they have.
- 9:03Right, with the exception of two games.
- 9:05So what of them? Fog Allen on a Monday night
- 9:07where no one wins. Right.
- 9:08Absolutely. Another thing that came out, and
- 9:11I don't know if we even mentioned it was, yeah, we did.
- 9:13The Alabama Kid. Yeah.
- 9:16And what a weird story, that second leading scorer.
- 9:18So spring break's happening. Everybody's off campus.
- 9:22He can't go through the proper channels.
- 9:24He's not going to play. No, he's out.
- 9:27Is it open up for Texas Tech? This only doesn't hurt them.
- 9:31So Texas Tech has lost three consecutive lost the last two
- 9:33games of the regular season. We of course know what happened
- 9:35against Iowa State. Texas Tech, they have gone
- 9:39completely 3 point reliant, which I hate.
- 9:42That's why I don't like Louisville in the first round.
- 9:44Michael Brown, if he plays for Louisville, I know he's
- 9:47yesterday South Florida. Michael Brown completely changes
- 9:49that equation if he's even 90% healthy.
- 9:53I think Louisville does pull out that game, but I grabbed the
- 9:55five and a half not knowing what that's going to be for Texas
- 9:58Tech. I hate a team that has become,
- 10:01we saw the best of it and he'll when when they're hitting shots
- 10:05like that, I don't want to say they're unbeatable.
- 10:09And I like McCausland. I think you do.
- 10:10Too, I do too, absolutely. Another guy that I really
- 10:13respect as a coach, like what they do, X's and O's, YS and he
- 10:15had to evolve. He had to change it to do that
- 10:17on the fly. Now it didn't work.
- 10:19They lost three straight, but maybe Texas Tech in the Sweet 16
- 10:22with the Alabama questions and remain.
- 10:24I think that's something to look at or if you want to go crazy,
- 10:28take a look at the 12 or thirteens in that bracket.
- 10:30If there's one that catches your eye more, the other that might
- 10:33be a direction to go because Alabama, they're inconsistent.
- 10:36That's another team that's completely 3 point reliant.
- 10:38We saw them go to the Final Four and obviously they can do it
- 10:41that way. But that was another one that I
- 10:43just thought needed a little bit more looking with Texas Tech
- 10:47come in, possibly out of that region.
- 10:48That's where Michigan is. Whoever comes out of that Akron,
- 10:51Hofstra did a little bit of work on both those.
- 10:54Lot of like, a lot of love for both of those teams.
- 10:56Long shot players like them. There wasn't anything that
- 10:59jumped off the page from either of them to say, yeah, that's the
- 11:03one I'm identifying, a 12 or 13 to get to a Sweet 16.
- 11:06There wasn't anything definitive with either of.
- 11:08Those you know, speaking, Speaking of the Alabama player,
- 11:10second league score on the team. Is this true?
- 11:13Did you see this anywhere? And I heard this and I, I, I'm
- 11:16not sure if I believe it or not, although it wouldn't surprise me
- 11:19because it is the SEC and it's a rivalry.
- 11:22Did an Auburn student really rat him out?
- 11:27Would you be shocked? No, that's why I didn't
- 11:29immediately dismiss it. Right, David, if that's the
- 11:33case? So the story, the way that I
- 11:35heard it was. And he didn't have a drug stamp.
- 11:37And I've said this for years when I first heard about drug
- 11:39stamps, you know what it was? Maybe it was back about the one
- 11:44of the Iowa players got popped back in the Alfred era, and he
- 11:47didn't fix a drug stamp. Well, where do you go to get
- 11:51one? And when you show up, what do
- 11:52you ask for? Hey, I'm going to be selling.
- 11:55Marijuana out of the out of the the house here.
- 11:58So I just need a tax stamp and then I'll be OK, right?
- 12:01And don't just keep it between you and I.
- 12:03And where do you fix the tax stamp to your front window?
- 12:06You know, like if you have that the, the ring or whatever it is,
- 12:09the the, the security system, you put it on your front window
- 12:13so the burglars get scared away. You scare the cops away because
- 12:16you got the drug stamp already affixed to your front.
- 12:19I never understood it. Stamp each of your dime bags.
- 12:21Is that how you do it? You know, does somebody show up
- 12:24and they need to they need you're you're, you're compliant,
- 12:27right? You've got your drug stamp and
- 12:29it's everything. I mean, good God, but that is.
- 12:32Yes, Holloway. So he gets picked up.
- 12:35Yep, and some weed. Yep, like a pound, right?
- 12:38Well, no, that was then at his. Oh, they found that at the so
- 12:42they went further. They went further.
- 12:44So they busted him away from his house.
- 12:46That's. How I heard it and I didn't read
- 12:48it, so that could be wrong. I very well could be off on
- 12:52that. I'm I that's how I heard it,
- 12:54though. And if that's the case, how do
- 12:56you get from you got to see in his car.
- 12:58He was. He got picked up in his car, had
- 13:01some weed on him, then they followed up, went to his house
- 13:04and that's where they found the copious amounts.
- 13:07I don't know. Is that probable cause?
- 13:10Possibly. Like, I mean, I guess I it just
- 13:14sounds that's that's odd. That leads me to more to believe
- 13:17the Auburn story that there may be something to this.
- 13:20But regardless, the kids not going to play.
- 13:22And I think for anybody that liked Alabama, you know, I've
- 13:26been, I've watched that Bracketology show last night on
- 13:29ESPNU or something, and it must have been taped before the news
- 13:33came out because a lot of them liked Alabama because they can
- 13:36shoot the three before, before this news must have broken
- 13:40because I give them no shot at all.
- 13:41No shot. I don't do you.
- 13:44And that was a team that, you know, you, you maybe win a game
- 13:46or two. Absolutely could get to a Sweet
- 13:4816 and we know with Alabama and regardless of who they play,
- 13:51they shoot the ball well, right, right.
- 13:54They can also shoot themselves out about against.
- 13:55As a lot of teams and, well, you know, Speaking of that, teams
- 13:58that can do that. There's a lot of Iowa State love
- 14:00in this tournament. Yeah.
- 14:01I mean, a lot, a lot of Final Fours.
- 14:04Billis has him in his Final four.
- 14:06That was the other guy I was trying to think of yesterday
- 14:08during the program. There's a lot of Iowa State
- 14:11Final Four love out there. Tennessee State is a walk over.
- 14:15I think so. I did find it not not funny.
- 14:19I was listening to TJ and he said he watched 1/2 of Tennessee
- 14:23State at some point this year and thinking this is this is a
- 14:27hardcore dude, right? I mean, he spends all the time
- 14:29coaching his team, goes over to his family and flips on
- 14:31basketball. But then it was against UNLV.
- 14:34So that kind of makes sense, right?
- 14:36Because that's where he came from.
- 14:37But yeah, that's a walk over. So who do they get next?
- 14:41Great question. Because I'm telling you, one of
- 14:44the one of the, I guess chic picks out there is Kentucky to
- 14:50go down to Santa Clara. Kentucky spent a lot on the
- 14:54roster. 21,000,000 By the way, if you're on hold, stay right
- 14:57there. We'll get to your calls in a
- 14:58minute. I think it's going to be Santa
- 15:01Clara. IA lot of people do Trent I.
- 15:04Think it's going to be Santa Clara.
- 15:05I mean, you talk about a toss up game.
- 15:06It's a 710 game. And you saw Santa Clara last.
- 15:10Week, right? Yeah, I watched a couple times
- 15:11with WCC. Absolutely had them both.
- 15:14You did against Saint Mary. 'S against Saint Mary's when
- 15:16they pulled off the upset and had the points in that one.
- 15:19They're A-Team, incredibly efficient.
- 15:21They're your prototypical WCC team.
- 15:23Yeah, we think of Gonzaga, but they could good Saint Mary's
- 15:25teams thinks of when, well, San Francisco with Todd Golden going
- 15:29back to that, when we've seen those next tier of good teams.
- 15:32Always really efficient with the basketball, good shooting.
- 15:34That's what you're going to get against Santa Clara and
- 15:37Kentucky. They just after that, it hasn't
- 15:40worked. No it hasn't.
- 15:41It hasn't worked. You just wonder if if Pope was
- 15:43going to survive. Apparently he's going to so we
- 15:46shall see from there. Yeah, Santa Clara, a lot of
- 15:48people like this team. A lot of people think that this
- 15:50is a team that could pair potentially, you know, make some
- 15:55noise, certainly get by the first one and then give the two
- 15:57seed fits. We'll I want to get to more into
- 16:00this when it comes to the seeding in second.
- 16:02So so Trent and I do a Mediacom show on Wednesdays.
- 16:06I was messing around last night trying to find some unique ways
- 16:09to to to play the tournament. Have you seen this one that the
- 16:13sum total of the final four seeds and it's 8 1/2 over or
- 16:19under 8 1/2. So it depends obviously, I mean,
- 16:23how many ones you think are going to get there.
- 16:26I played the under. I think so.
- 16:29Too, we talked about the top level of the sport and and has
- 16:32it dissipated because Duke and the injuries.
- 16:35Michigan hasn't looked quite at form.
- 16:37Arizona's got Tommy Lloyd right And, and even me, you know, I, I
- 16:42put out what I think I'll officially have tomorrow as my
- 16:45final 42 ones, A2 and A4. So that gets you.
- 16:50That's eight, that's eight. That's not even, that's under.
- 16:52There's obviously one team could screw it up.
- 16:55You get an 11 there, all right, you're dead.
- 16:58But do you see that? Happening this year.
- 16:59I don't, I think I hate to say this word when it comes to
- 17:03betting because there's no sure thing.
- 17:04Yeah, this sure seems like a cinch because I like a bunch of
- 17:09ones. I know there was 4 made it last
- 17:10year that probably won't happen this year and I don't ask me
- 17:13which one's going to fall first. Hopefully it's Michigan, first
- 17:16time states. First time since 2008 we saw all
- 17:20the number one seeds a year ago. It's happened twice ever since
- 17:24the 64 team bracket started in 1985.
- 17:26I love historical data. I think you know that about me
- 17:29and certainly with the NCAA Tournament, I like looking at
- 17:31past but. I think it changes because of
- 17:33nil. And you're absolutely right,
- 17:36what we saw a year ago was completely different really than
- 17:40anything that we've saw before. Remember the plucky underdog
- 17:44that made it to the Sweet 1612 speeding fives?
- 17:46Oh, absolutely. It was a huge thing.
- 17:48And it was those double digit scenes that get to the Sweet 16.
- 17:51A year ago we had one that made it that plucky underdog that
- 17:56just doesn't have as much to compete.
- 17:57The Arkansas Razorbacks with Cal and the Tyson money that was
- 18:01your underdog a year ago in the NCAA Tournament was Cinderella.
- 18:05Cinderella. John Calipari with the Tyson
- 18:08chicken money. Yeah, with Tyson chicken money.
- 18:11That's who we had a year ago. Your regions one versus 5-6
- 18:16versus 2. That was in the South.
- 18:17Ole Miss was a six seed, of course, beat Iowa State.
- 18:20There's Arkansas, the 10 along the Florida and Maryland, 14,
- 18:23Texas Tech, the three that played out according to seeding.
- 18:27In the East, we got 1-6 seed. That was BYU.
- 18:30He beat Wisconsin, but the one, four and two were all there.
- 18:33And then in the Midwest, it went.
- 18:34Chalk to the Sweet 16 #1 Houston #4 Purdue, 2 Tennessee, 3
- 18:40Kentucky. I hope that is not our new
- 18:43reality. I think, yeah.
- 18:45Here is. So you've got a 42 ones and a
- 18:48deuce. Yes, that's what I that's where
- 18:50you're you're standing right now.
- 18:51Yes, in the past when we talk about these teams and think back
- 18:56of whatever upset you want to think about, how many times was
- 19:00it a veteran squad? Guys have played together for
- 19:03two, 3-4 years. They grew up together and that
- 19:07was the breakthrough moment. Now it is all these mid major
- 19:12teams are young, you know and you know.
- 19:14Why? Yeah, because they haven't got
- 19:15got plucked to the to the to the big teams yet.
- 19:17What was it? Was it last year or two years
- 19:19ago in the Missouri Valley where all the top 15 returning
- 19:23players? Yeah, The that held the team?
- 19:26Yeah, 13 of the 15, right. Depart, right.
- 19:29I just saw it today. Belmont, their big guy who's
- 19:31really good, really skilled, He's in the portal.
- 19:33Yeah, you know, you know, apparently he's in on him.
- 19:35Who's that? Iowa State.
- 19:36No, not surprised. He's really good block shots,
- 19:40skill set that he can shoot it from the outside like it liked
- 19:43him a lot at Belmont. That is our reality.
- 19:45So now these mid majors that we're used to, at minimum
- 19:48they're going to be veteran. They seen a lot, yeah.
- 19:50It's a step up in competition. But these guys are 2122 years
- 19:54old. They've gone through the battles
- 19:56well. Now they're 18 and 19 and how
- 19:58they're going up against teams that have that kind of skill,
- 20:01your veteran teams. Look at Michigan, look at the
- 20:04veteran nature of that school forward to stick around.
- 20:07They're old and yes, you can keep those guys got around, even
- 20:11the guys on the fringes. Now you can pay and then you can
- 20:13go out and you can augment your roster with a Lena Borg and
- 20:16that's going to go a long, long ways.
- 20:18What you could do those kind of things and change the equation
- 20:20last year. I hope this is not our new
- 20:22reality, but unfortunately I. Think it is, Trent.
- 20:25I think it's trending in that direction.
- 20:26I really do. We shall see where it goes.
- 20:29All right. Want to spend a minute on this?
- 20:30Oh, I got one more, OK, one more of my bracket notes from last
- 20:33night. I was watching CBS Sports
- 20:35Network. You know, I love what they do.
- 20:37College football and college basketball both love their
- 20:39shows. John Rostein.
- 20:41Yep. We're dude.
- 20:43I'm going to try and make I've got form of business partnership
- 20:45with him, but that aside. He's weird.
- 20:47Yeah. He isn't.
- 20:48Which? Is which is why I haven't
- 20:49reached out to him yet. He's also a New Yorker, and I
- 20:53think we all know the ugly side of New Yorkers, at least how
- 20:55it's painted. Right?
- 20:56Yeah, boy, did he bring that up in a big brash me.
- 21:00Oh God. So he's talking.
- 21:01About you know what doesn't you know what?
- 21:03Oh yeah, he was talking about the Saint John's you and I game
- 21:06and I want to go through the TV and punch him in the face.
- 21:07What did he say? No shot.
- 21:09Say John, St. John's.
- 21:12They're playing well. Play great basketball, but come
- 21:15on. No shot for a team that scored
- 21:1840 points in a game two weeks ago that went through, buddy.
- 21:20He has Yukon a putrid. A putrid biggie, I hope.
- 21:28I look, I'd love to see it too. I'd love this.
- 21:30I'd love to see you when I advance.
- 21:32What do you do against Saint John's?
- 21:34And they're a bear inside. Not a great shooting team.
- 21:37You're going to slow down. The clock, yes.
- 21:40I think you and I is a live dog in that.
- 21:42Group. So how many points did they get
- 21:43in? 11 and a half, Ten and a half,
- 21:4410 1/2 No. I think the Panthers have a shot
- 21:46and there was just something about his New York tone and New
- 21:50Yorkers. So what I'm referring to, I own
- 21:52the domain. This is March.
- 21:54Yes. Dot com and you hear it all the
- 21:56time at this time of year and I just don't know what to do with
- 21:58itthisismarch.com because he says it more than anybody.
- 22:02He does. He says it daily.
- 22:04Every day. And he starts in February.
- 22:06This is March, this is March and I'm squatting on it and I don't
- 22:10know what to do with. It have you you used to have
- 22:12hundreds I. Know I did, yeah.
- 22:14At one point, have you ever sold one of these?
- 22:17No, and I turn people down, but yes, because I was.
- 22:20That's a long story. I don't want to bore the
- 22:22audience. Let's get to baseball because I
- 22:25forgot to do the guest list. So in 5 minutes or their boss,
- 22:27Tom Caker is going to join us before he heads on his airplane
- 22:30to head to Tampa. I'm going to ask him this
- 22:32question. I'll ask you because you made
- 22:33the trip, is Tampa outside the Big 10 footprint?
- 22:38And I'll throw Ames into it because of the SEI Hawk every
- 22:42two years. Is there another city that Hawk
- 22:44fans have been asked to go to if they're following their football
- 22:47or their basketball team more than Tampa?
- 22:49Probably not. Probably not, right?
- 22:51It's uncanny. It's been Indianapolis a couple
- 22:54of times. Couple.
- 22:54Of times, yeah. Chicago, Indianapolis for Big 10
- 22:57tournaments. They're Tampa in this Outback
- 22:59Bowl, year after year after year.
- 23:01There's a lot of snowbirds down there all sure think they're
- 23:04going to have a decent contingent.
- 23:06Decent. Except that they're the nine
- 23:08seed. Here's the other problem, what
- 23:11Iowa women's basketball is turned into.
- 23:12No, that's true too. That's the problem.
- 23:14They play Sunday, Tuesday, Saturday, Monday.
- 23:17Yes, Saturday, Monday. That also I think is an issue
- 23:21when you're talking. About the travelling party,
- 23:22great point. Yep, great point.
- 23:24Has siphoned fans away. I told you the story before.
- 23:27I am just shocked of the number of people and we're a couple
- 23:31years removed now from Caitlin, two years removed and how still
- 23:36important it is. Appointment viewing what Iowa
- 23:39men's basketball was in the 80s and 90s.
- 23:41That's become a woman's basketball for a ton of people
- 23:44and people my parents age, a lot of their friends.
- 23:47I mean, that is they go out, they go on their car rides on
- 23:49Sunday. That's what apparently that's
- 23:52what retired people have. That's what we got to look
- 23:53forward to. That's what we got to do.
- 23:54Cindy and Jet, yes, but that's also a part of it.
- 23:59What time does Iowa play Iowa? Women play that I can think of.
- 24:01I can hear my parents. You want to go for a car ride?
- 24:03What? A car ride.
- 24:07That is the reality. That's what you got to look
- 24:09forward to. Or you can just stick around.
- 24:11Yeah, you know what, man? That that might just be the
- 24:15deciding factor. Maybe I should tell Cindy that
- 24:17because she might ask me. Stick around.
- 24:19She. Right.
- 24:19No. Car rights?
- 24:20No. Rights Baseball, World Baseball
- 24:23Classic, the passion that just exudes through your television
- 24:28set when watching these games. I can't wait that Matt Snyder is
- 24:32where I'm going with guest list. Caker, First hour #2 John
- 24:34Walters, Voices of the Cyclones and then Matt Snyder, who's in
- 24:37Miami. He's been in Miami, he's been
- 24:39covering this event, the World Baseball Classic.
- 24:41He's covered a bunch of World Series, a bunch of World Series,
- 24:44and not only in one city. He follows it around.
- 24:48Is there anything that comes close to this from I?
- 24:51Because when you, you know, over in the winter months, some every
- 24:55now and then you come across a game of baseball in the
- 24:57Dominican Republic or game in Cuba or you know, something and
- 25:01it's just a different experience watching the game, right.
- 25:05And we're seeing that in American cities, at least I am.
- 25:08Oh, absolutely. Especially in Miami last night.
- 25:11It was an incredible scene. It was amazing, especially when
- 25:13Venezuela was 7th inning. Yeah, the comeback place was
- 25:17bananas. Couple of hits with 2 outs and
- 25:19they were just on fire. The crowd shots were incredible.
- 25:22That's what makes baseball October baseball.
- 25:25I think so special is that Lowell in between the pitches,
- 25:28the crowd shots, the cutaways, the nervous energy and this is a
- 25:32different kind of energy. It's an exciting energy and it
- 25:34is. I see Miguel Cabrera in the in
- 25:36the bench and the hoot and hollering.
- 25:38It's amazing. These guys are like kids.
- 25:40They're not. You don't see them as multi
- 25:42millionaire athletes. You see them as, you know, kids
- 25:46playing a kids game in a lot of ways, at least I did yesterday.
- 25:50I was just blown away. So I want to, I mean, Matt
- 25:52Snyder, he's experienced it, you know, World Series and then
- 25:56this. I I got to think this is
- 25:57entirely different. I will have to look at what the
- 26:00Tuesday NCAA Tournament first four-game was a year ago, oh, to
- 26:04compare it. But I think this is going to
- 26:06take a significant hit of the numbers that are going to be
- 26:10watching Texas, NC State, well. One of them you got to really
- 26:13work to find it. Is it T?
- 26:15Is it true TV, Tru TV Yep. The other one's on fox.
- 26:19The other game is on Fox and it's.
- 26:21US red, white and blue, yes, right.
- 26:23That goes a long ways. That goes a long ways.
- 26:25This is I I was if I came into this event, not sure you know
- 26:30what it's going to do. I've had a total redux.
- 26:33This is this is a big event. This is taking it this year has
- 26:37gone to another level for. Me way bigger than I remember.
- 26:39Yeah, passing interest. Yep.
- 26:41Maybe flip it on, it has become certainly here over this last
- 26:44week appointment viewing, Yep. And going back to Sunday night,
- 26:48last night, very wild start to finish.
- 26:50Yep, that helped. Nothing else was going on.
- 26:52Sure. Monday was.
- 26:53Yeah, there was nothing Monday. And if there was, if the first
- 26:56four was tonight and we would have got Venezuela, Italy
- 26:59tonight instead, right, I would have been on the mess.
- 27:02Yeah, I would have been on the basketball.
- 27:03And I still will be. I want to watch the 11 versus.
- 27:0511 Yeah NC. Yeah, I like Texas.
- 27:07Yeah. We'll get some thoughts on that.
- 27:09I got some more a little bit later on, but OK, I am with you.
- 27:12I think this is going to be great.
- 27:13I think it's going to do a huge number, certainly in comparison,
- 27:16and probably going to hurt the NCAA Tournament, something
- 27:18that's difficult to do in March. I'm with you.
- 27:21All right, We'll come back. We'll talk to Tom Caker as he
- 27:23gets set to depart for Tampa again.
- 27:26Again. He knows the spots.
- 27:28He does. Miller and Condon underway on
- 27:31our Tuesday. Still to come, John Walters, the
- 27:33voice of Iowa State, kicks off the second hour.
- 27:35Matt Snyder, our baseball guy from CBSSports.com.
- 27:39He joins us at 1:30 Miller and Condon on the Iowa Sports Radio
- 27:42Network. Hi, Mary Collington, Welcome
- 27:59back, Iowa Sports Radio Network, wherever you're listening.
- 28:01Grateful that you are. We'll take you until 2:00.
- 28:04Still to come, John Walters, voice of Iowa State, kicks off
- 28:07the 1:00 hour. Matt Snyder covers baseball for
- 28:10CBSSports.com. Preview of tonight's
- 28:13championship game. I lost Tom Cagart or he lost us.
- 28:18How so? I don't know.
- 28:19He's not there. He's there.
- 28:21Is he? Yeah, it's flashing.
- 28:22I'll be damned, it is. I'm here.
- 28:27Good to have you, Tom. I don't know where you went on
- 28:28my screen, but you're back. Good to see you or good to talk
- 28:31to you. Are you getting sick of going to
- 28:34Tampa? You there?
- 28:40Maybe he is. I'm telling you, there's
- 28:42something going on. Here something funky I'll I'll
- 28:44try on another. Line.
- 28:45Let's try on another line. I knew it wasn't me, but maybe
- 28:48it is. We'll get Tom Cacre back in here
- 28:51and get his thoughts on what lies ahead for Iowa.
- 28:53Obviously game against Clemson, a Clemson team that is without
- 28:57one of their better players. So we'll do that and see how far
- 29:00they can go. And I thought Trent made a
- 29:01really good point as to perhaps this is going to prevent some of
- 29:06the. I think it's our phones, isn't
- 29:08it? I'm not sure.
- 29:10Do you have him? I don't.
- 29:11I do, yeah. He's not showing up here.
- 29:13There we go. All right.
- 29:14Let's try this. You might need to restart your.
- 29:16Maybe I do. There you are, Tom.
- 29:19Good to hear. Good to hear from you.
- 29:20Let me ask you a question again. Are you sick of going to Tampa?
- 29:25I never get sick of Tampa. OK, good place.
- 29:28I just the thing I worry about is that I I jokingly said to a
- 29:32friend of mine. I wonder if they can if the NCAA
- 29:36will hire John James to run a nice hospitality room for me.
- 29:41That's all I'm going to miss is John James.
- 29:44Is is it in the same hotel to me to put in the same hotel?
- 29:48No, we're actually downtown. You know, usually we're out by
- 29:50the airport area and this time it's it's downtown at a little
- 29:56Springhill Suites. So we'll be it's about a mile
- 30:00from the from the arena, so. Good stuff.
- 30:04Trent made a great point earlier and I'm going to steal it from
- 30:06him just because I got you first.
- 30:08We were talking about, you know, what kind of what kind of travel
- 30:11party will make their way down there to watch this.
- 30:13And I I, you know, I didn't I didn't have an answer.
- 30:17And and Trent put put it, I'm paraphrasing that he's not sure
- 30:21because the Iowa women have really established their place
- 30:24in the market amongst Hawkeye basketball fans.
- 30:27They're at home. They play Saturday, they play
- 30:29Monday, assuming they get by on Saturday.
- 30:32And perhaps that will, you know, change some minds as to buy a
- 30:35plane ticket and travel to Florida during spring break,
- 30:37which isn't cheap to do. Or stay at home and watch the
- 30:40Iowa women. Yeah, but there's a lot of Hawks
- 30:43fans down in that area though, so, and a lot of them that that
- 30:47winter down there, you know, and they're not back here yet.
- 30:49So there's, from what I understand, I think they're
- 30:53going to have a full complement of people.
- 30:55I asked Beth Getz Sunday what her plan was, and she said her
- 31:00plan is to go to Cleveland on Thursday, watch the men play on
- 31:04Friday and then get Iowa City for the women's game on
- 31:07Saturday. So that's that's her plan.
- 31:10Must be nice. She's going to try.
- 31:11She's going to pull off the triple.
- 31:13Really, that's good use of the company jet making that would
- 31:17happen. You got it, Why not you?
- 31:18Absolutely. No doubt about it.
- 31:21Quickly on the women's side, we'll get in the match up
- 31:24against Clemson and potentially a match up against Florida down
- 31:27there in Tampa. But the women, the draw that
- 31:30they got, it's going to be Georgia again.
- 31:31We saw them a couple of years ago in that round of 32 and gave
- 31:34them a tussle. Caitlin had to have a shot in
- 31:36the final minute to stretch that thing out to a couple of
- 31:39possessions. Don't tell me she made it.
- 31:41She made it. Yeah, she she did make it here.
- 31:44That draw, that second round game.
- 31:46Of course, they lost her sophomore year to Creighton in
- 31:49the round of 32. What is it about that one?
- 31:51Even at Carver, it just, it feels so tough.
- 31:54Is this just Iowa thing, or is it just in general getting to
- 31:58that Sweet 16 tougher than maybe you'd anticipate?
- 32:01Yeah, And you know, Caitlin talked about that before her
- 32:04senior year game and just that that game is a lot tougher than
- 32:09maybe a Sweet 16 game in a lot of ways because there's just so
- 32:13much pressure because if you you want to win that game so badly
- 32:17so you can get to that second weekend and that other team is
- 32:21going to give their all to try and beat you.
- 32:23And yeah, it's that George game is really scary.
- 32:26I suspect they're going to cruise past them in the first
- 32:29game. And who knows, maybe Arizona
- 32:31State or somebody comes in or one of the other teams.
- 32:34I mean, we have to play in games there.
- 32:36So maybe they come in and give Georgia fits too.
- 32:40So we'll, we'll see. But yeah, Georgia, Georgia is
- 32:45ranked 24th in the country and they're a second round game in
- 32:48the round of 32. So not not great.
- 32:51Yeah, You know what, I noticed this and I hadn't noticed this
- 32:54before when you when pursuant to the women's brackets, you
- 32:57mentioned the playing games, whereas the men is the 11 and
- 32:59the 16, the women are the 10. That's what they're playing game
- 33:03is 10 and 16. So a little different
- 33:05differentiation there on their part.
- 33:08Tom, as far as availability can are tickets still available for
- 33:12the weekend at Carver, do you know?
- 33:14Boy, I, I think they've sold out already from what I what I would
- 33:18gather. I mean those things so felt like
- 33:20hotcakes every time they go on sale.
- 33:22So it's I'm anticipating there's going to be a full house and
- 33:26it's going to be loud and it's going to be a lot of fun.
- 33:29So, and there's also that, you know, the cool thing about the
- 33:32NCAA tournament is they have those, those I mentioned this on
- 33:35the message boards the other day.
- 33:37They have those shoot arounds or little practice session things
- 33:41that are open to the public. So if you didn't get tickets,
- 33:44you can go to Carver Hawkeye Arena and watch them practice on
- 33:47Friday. Just, you know, I'm not sure
- 33:49what time the practices are, but you can go there and put on a
- 33:534045 minute practice, price science autographs and it's all
- 33:56free. See all the teams that are
- 33:58coming through, Yeah, yeah. No, it's, it's, it's it's a
- 34:01great benefit for for basketball fans in the state.
- 34:06The Virginia, Arizona State, which is weird a playing in the
- 34:10ten in the 10 line, don't see that very often.
- 34:14So Arizona State against Iowa State this year.
- 34:16Don't know much about Virginia, but what kind of crowd are they
- 34:19going to get Thursday night in Carver for that one?
- 34:22I mean, how many people? It's one thing to watch Iowa
- 34:25play. It's another thing to watch
- 34:26Arizona State and Virginia. We talking about hundreds of
- 34:28people or will there be a couple thousand in the building?
- 34:32There was, they had a plan for one of the Kingman teams too,
- 34:36when they were one. And that's a different,
- 34:38different genre with, you know, 22 obscure teams versus 2 power
- 34:44conference teams. So I, I think there'll be a
- 34:46couple thousand people there. I, I just do, I think that the
- 34:50fans of women's basketball will show up and watch it and, and,
- 34:55and want to be a part of that. So, and why not?
- 34:58It's an NCAA tournament game. You get to watch it, and it's
- 35:01probably pretty inexpensive to get in, so why?
- 35:03Why not? Absolutely.
- 35:04Let's talk about the men. They'll play Clemson in their
- 35:07first round matchup. Clemson without Carter Welling
- 35:09who got hurt and hit the first game of the ACC tournament
- 35:12towards ACL. So they're mean.
- 35:14He's out for sure. Not miraculously going to come
- 35:17onto the floor at any point. 6 foot 10 junior so I was
- 35:20struggled with size throughout the season. 610 kid is not going
- 35:24to be able to answer the bell. Your thoughts on the matchup?
- 35:27Yeah, that is a significant development because he was the
- 35:31leading rebounder and a double figure score and they've only
- 35:33got 2 double figure scores on that team.
- 35:35They've got like 3 guys that are in the 9 range.
- 35:38So it's really close, but that's a big deal for them just from a
- 35:43rebound perspective, because the first game that they played
- 35:47without him, obviously it's against Duke.
- 35:50So Duke was really good, but but Duke was without, you know,
- 35:55Yeah, yeah, in that in that game.
- 35:58And and they they out rebounded them by like 14 in that game.
- 36:02So so you know, just by that you can tell they're they're not a
- 36:07great rebounding team to begin with.
- 36:09I think there were plus one and 1.9 this season as a whole and
- 36:14and got rebounded out, rebounded by 14 by Duke in that game.
- 36:17So that is something that's probably benefits to Iowa
- 36:21because I was not a great rebounding team, but that should
- 36:25help them. They don't have a shot blocker,
- 36:28which is something that's I think given Iowa the most fits
- 36:31this year is size in the post and and the guys who can kind of
- 36:37keep you away from the rim like an Illinois team, places like
- 36:41that, Purdue. So they don't have that.
- 36:45So I and I was going to have the best player on the floor.
- 36:48They just are coming into the game.
- 36:50Bennett Sturtz is the best player that's going to be on
- 36:52that floor. They've got some really good
- 36:54players, but and Trent will appreciate this.
- 36:58The thing that I always fear is the random bench guy that comes
- 37:03in and scores 15 points and hits 5 three, yes, that's that's I
- 37:07was fate in every every big game.
- 37:09Who have you identified the guy for Clemson you think has a shot
- 37:12to do that? Who's going to be the one that
- 37:13comes in? I I look in here, I got a name
- 37:16for you, Ace Buckner. He's a freshman that's shooting
- 37:1832% from three. He seems like he's destined for
- 37:21about a 5 or 7 performance from behind the arc.
- 37:24Probably. That's probably him all.
- 37:26Right, Ace. Ace, but ace.
- 37:28Next out of three. Ken's already going to be
- 37:30shaking his head. Well, there's a better name.
- 37:31There's a there's a better name on that team.
- 37:33Butter Johnson. Butter Johnson.
- 37:35Butter Johnson, I was, I was joking with, with Gary Dolphin
- 37:40waiting. I can't wait for you to say
- 37:41Butter Johnson, Gary. Butter Johnson senior.
- 37:46Got to be. Careful with that one, Tom.
- 37:49They played a slow pace. Iowa plays at a slow pace.
- 37:51They're without their starting center.
- 37:53Feels like a lot of images Iowa's way.
- 37:56What do you point to though, Clemson that would give you
- 37:59concern? What's the thing that gives you
- 38:00pause here? Because I love Iowa, I think Ken
- 38:03likes Iowa in this spot, most everybody and even on a national
- 38:06scene does. What does give you pause?
- 38:09That everybody likes Iowa. That's true.
- 38:11That's a great point. Public side, man, I looked at, I
- 38:15looked at the percentages yesterday and it was like what,
- 38:1789% of the money's on Iowa right now?
- 38:20And I'm like, oh, normally in my life, I run the other direction.
- 38:24So, so, you know, it's that that gives me pause.
- 38:31The other thing that gives me pause is that's a pretty battle
- 38:34tested Constantine. A lot of those guys are junior
- 38:37seniors that were part of that that Elite Eight team a couple
- 38:41of years ago. And so they've been through the
- 38:44wars and they've played in the NCAA Tournament.
- 38:47So the moment's not going to be big for them.
- 38:51They're not going to get kind of caught up in it.
- 38:53Not that I will will because most of those guys have been
- 38:56through this, you know, playing in the NCAA tournament at least
- 39:01a little bit like last year with most of the guys that came over
- 39:03from Drake. So they I would be more worried
- 39:05if they hadn't experienced this. So, but with this game, as low
- 39:10scoring and low possessions as it's going to be, you cannot
- 39:13have that slow start be down 21 to 10 because that's then you're
- 39:18you're really chasing uphill. You, you're in that hole.
- 39:23Question about Brad Brownell, who was the coach way back in
- 39:26the day at UNC Wilmington coached in Iowa there with Craig
- 39:29Callahan, who did great things with the Seahawks.
- 39:32He was very close to getting the Iowa job back when Fram
- 39:35McCaffrey was ultimately hired. Do you remember was, were those
- 39:39the two finalists? Was it another guy in the Mex?
- 39:42Who else was there? Because I remember Brownell.
- 39:45He was at Wright State of the prominence he was.
- 39:46Prominent in the search. And done a nice job at Clemson
- 39:49overall, but, you know, kind of going back in that machine.
- 39:52What do you remember about that time when Fran was hired?
- 39:54Yeah, it's just I remember his name coming up quite a bit in
- 39:58that search and that he was a major candidate.
- 40:01I think he's originally from Indiana, I think southern
- 40:05Indiana maybe. So there's some kind of Midwest
- 40:08feel to him and but I think it worked out for both parties.
- 40:13But he was, he's had a career a lot like Fran where?
- 40:18And he, and just for Brownell, I mean, a couple years ago, he was
- 40:22on the hot seat until he had that Elite Eight run and that I
- 40:25bought him another couple of years here and he's made the
- 40:28tournament last couple years. So as long as he keeps making
- 40:31the tournament, I think he's good for for a bit.
- 40:34But yeah, there were some lean years for him where he was
- 40:37definitely hot seat or or darn near close to it.
- 40:42Last thing, and this is for both EVO, I'm trying, you probably
- 40:45saw this, one of our one of our listeners reached out via via
- 40:48our Miller and Condon Twitter account and asked us for this
- 40:51this prop question. The Iowa men and women will
- 40:55combine to win. Will they combine to win more
- 40:59games than the Iowa State men and women?
- 41:05I'd have to go probably the Iowa State side and.
- 41:10May, yeah. But is the women one Max?
- 41:14What do you mean? Well, they're not winning in the
- 41:16round of 32, no. So the so the 11 win Max is all
- 41:20you're. Going to get yes.
- 41:22Here's another way to look at it.
- 41:23Are the Iowa men one Max Tom or would you give them any shot of
- 41:29beating Florida? None.
- 41:30I I don't. Think they have much Florida, to
- 41:34be honest. I I just think their size is
- 41:37just too overwhelming. And that's that's going to be
- 41:41the I know some people who I've talked a couple of people who
- 41:44seem to think that maybe they would have that was of the one
- 41:48seeds, that's the one you'd have the best shot against.
- 41:51Yeah, I think. So.
- 41:52Maybe that's true because because their guard play is
- 41:55suspect. It.
- 41:56Is and, but, but boy, that size, just just see them playing
- 42:02volleyball on those guys playing volleyball with the backboard.
- 42:07So we'll hopefully we'll get to see that on Sunday.
- 42:10But I'd be all for it. Good stuff, Tom, travel safe.
- 42:13Appreciate what you do for us. As always.
- 42:15We will. We're off Thursday, Friday, so
- 42:17we'll talk to you next Friday. Tom Kaiker, thank you, bud.
- 42:20Awesome. Thanks guys.
- 42:21Good to talk to you Tom Kaiker hawkeyereport.com part of on
- 42:24three media. So the answer is what Push Iowa
- 42:30State men win 3? That would play out to seeding.
- 42:36I will state women, when they get bounced one, do you think 1,
- 42:41you think they win the first one?
- 42:42I do. OK, you're going to give them
- 42:43that one. So you got them.
- 42:44So can I will win four games, men and women combined?
- 42:47Well, one for the men, one for the men.
- 42:50And then it's. Going to be push 44.
- 42:52It's going. To be a push.
- 42:53That's what seeding says, though.
- 42:54That's right. That's not the easy way.
- 42:57That's not going to the easy way out.
- 42:59Well, it's probably -110 on both sides.
- 43:01Probably would be on the well. This is a condo casino.
- 43:03Yes, I'll. I'll set it.
- 43:05I'm going to lay a little extra juice -115 at the condo casino.
- 43:08Take that. We have to take our time out.
- 43:12If we had to put an advantage on it though.
- 43:14I think it's Iowa State, in fact.
- 43:19I just think there are what is there a 2% chance they beat
- 43:23Yukon in the round of 32? The I would say women and like
- 43:26A5. Percent chance it's not even
- 43:27that high. OK. 1% chance and there's how.
- 43:30About no chance and A5. Percent chance for the Iowa men,
- 43:34that's like my differentiator between the two because I think
- 43:38the Iowa Iowa State men and the Iowa women are basically the
- 43:42same. About the same and it's.
- 43:43The same for the Iowa men and the Iowa State women, but maybe
- 43:46just a slight notch higher for the Iowa men to pull that up.
- 43:49Set -120 on the Iowa, even 100 on Iowa.
- 43:55State all right, we'll come back.
- 43:56Miller and Condon, you're listening to the Iowa Sports
- 43:58Radio network. Hi Miller and Condon welcome
- 44:09back final couple of minutes hour number one John Walters
- 44:11kicks off the second hour. Matt Snyder's in Miami for the
- 44:15finale of the World Baseball classic.
- 44:17Thank you to Thomas Scherzan or Tom Scherzan.
- 44:21He was the one that text our our reached out to his via the
- 44:25Miller and Condon Twitter account.
- 44:27With that brain teaser. That was a good.
- 44:29One, yes, absolutely. I liked it and I think it's even
- 44:32down the line. Too, I think it is.
- 44:33Answer the question coming full circle 19 minutes ago.
- 44:37Tickets for the first and second round at Carver Hawkeye Arena
- 44:40are officially sold out. Are they gone but it but it's
- 44:44just a 22 thing. Yeah, Well, look, we thought
- 44:48that that there would be an impact on the game.
- 44:51We said that as much that, you know, not just Iowa, but what
- 44:54she's done brought eyeballs to women's basketball.
- 44:57And would it would it continue? And well, certainly has it in
- 45:00Iowa City. I think Caitlin, her team plays
- 45:04today. I think I think during the day
- 45:06today. Anyways, that aside.
- 45:08All right, John Walters coming up.
- 45:09We will talk to John Walters on Iowa State and their path.
- 45:14Boy, there's a lot of Santa Clara love out there in the
- 45:16second round. What do they do?
- 45:17Well, what the shooting, obviously.
- 45:21Good shooting team you would assume.
- 45:22Yes, absolutely. Very efficient on the offensive
- 45:25end of the floor. They're not going to beat
- 45:27themselves. It is just a good solid team.
- 45:30They're not going to overwhelm you by any means.
- 45:32But Santa Clara good solid When they played some of the upper
- 45:36end teams though hasn't gone very well for Herb.
- 45:39Sendex squad Herb seed a lot of basketball.
- 45:41Yeah, yes, he certainly has our two next Miller and Condon on
- 45:45the Iowa Sports Radio Network.
