- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend, welcome to The Daily Writer, where we help writers become authors of their own lives.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: Last week I had dinner with a writer friend of mine who's been working on his first novel for a while.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Well, correction, he hadn't actually started writing the book.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: He had been working on this really detailed outline for months on end.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: And when we had dinner, he told me that he'd finally started to write the actual book.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: And so I told him I was insanely proud of him because he did the one thing that a lot of writers don't actually do, which is stop planning their book and actually start working on the first draft.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: But after I said that, he asked me a fascinating question.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: He said, Kent, what motivates you to write?
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: And why is it that you do what you do?
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: So I shared with him several reasons why I get up every single day excited to serve clients through ghostwriting, but also by continuing to write my own books and content like my daily emails and in fact the very podcast that you're listening to right now.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: These are some of the things that I shared with him.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: Number one, I want to prove to myself that I can keep building something of value.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: Number two, I want to be better than I was yesterday.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: Number three, I want to outlast and outwork other people in my genre and in my niche who have already quit.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: Number four, I want to show my son by example that you can switch careers midlife and build something meaningful and profitable.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: Number five, I have a lot of things left in my life that I want to say.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: Number six, I want to keep building toward more and more financial freedom for my family.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: Number seven, I want to give more, so therefore I want to earn more.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: Number 11, I want to simply conquer my fear.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: Number 12, I want to help as many writers as possible feel more courageous, capable, and creative.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: Number 13, most of all, I just want to see how far I can take this thing.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: Well, those are my basic reasons for doing what I do, but what about you?
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: If you've never dug into what motivates you, I want to suggest a really simple but very effective exercise, which is grab a pen and paper and just start writing down what drives you.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: There's no right or wrong answers.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: The only requirement is that you be totally honest with yourself.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: Because I believe this is where real growth in your life and your career begins.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: It's figuring out why you're doing this in the first place and then being true to your purposes and desires.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: So give this little exercise a try.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: I would be really curious how it helps you, actually, and I would love to hear your response.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: You can send me an email at Kent at KentSanders.net.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: I reply to all my emails, as you probably know by now, and I would genuinely love to hear from you.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: Hey, thanks so much for listening.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: Keep writing, keep showing up, and I'll see you tomorrow.
