- 0:39men helping men, one door 1 Lord one covenant.
- 0:44So we need to do our part. Stop saying it's not by work so
- 0:48you don't have to read your Bible.
- 0:50That's not what Paul was talking about.
- 0:53We don't just talk the talk. heart and live a dog like Jesus
- 5:10every single day. Christ built intellectually
- 5:16initiate Pastor Doug and Lilia, brother Kevin and Brano.
- 5:22Christ built sons.
- 5:59Well, Aloha, good afternoon. Welcome to Men Helping Men.
- 6:03I'm your host, Kevin Anderson, joined by again our executive
- 6:07producer and pastor, Doug Chong. Christ Built Ministries, the
- 6:11founder of Men Helping Men and new title songwriter of the
- 6:16amazing Christ built music that we have a fortunate blessing to
- 6:19listen to at the beginning of every show here, deep
- 6:22theological messages always written into the songs.
- 6:25Doug inspired by, of course, your passion for the truth.
- 6:30Yeah Doug, and knowing what it is to not only have a
- 6:34relationship with God, but how do we do that starting off with
- 6:37the first I intimate and initiate and go ahead Doug and
- 6:43talk about the three eyes in the song that we just heard.
- 6:47Amazing music again, Doug. Yeah, thank you, Kevin.
- 6:49And, and the first size intellectual is knowing why we
- 6:54were created. Now, if you're walking on a
- 6:56desert island and you see a piano on the beach, you don't
- 7:00think the the the animal life put that together or it just
- 7:06came together from the elements of this world.
- 7:10You know, there is a divine person, a creator that put it
- 7:14together because it's so technical.
- 7:16So we can have patterns like ripples in the sand, but the
- 7:19technical, like our DNA, the technicalities of things like
- 7:24our fingerprints, one-of-a-kind, 8 billion people, nobody has
- 7:28your fingerprint. There's a creator.
- 7:31This, this universe, this world, God left his fingerprints.
- 7:35So we search him out and find out why we are here and remember
- 7:40Adam and Eve go back to the basics.
- 7:42Why did he create Adam in his own image?
- 7:45He has angels, never created them in his own image, Adam in
- 7:49his own image. Same reason why we have
- 7:51children, part of me, part of my wife who I love loving the kids
- 7:57because that's both of us put together.
- 7:59So God the Father created Adam in his own image so he could
- 8:03have a daily intimate relationship with Adam.
- 8:06Sin came into the picture separated Adam and and God the
- 8:11Father. So the whole plan of redemption
- 8:14is to what to restore that relationship with God again.
- 8:20Sin because he's holy separated us.
- 8:24Now the whole plan of redemption is not so I can say I believe
- 8:28Jesus came down here rose from rose from the dead three days
- 8:31later and then went to heaven. Now I'm saved, I can live my own
- 8:34life. It's to reestablish that daily
- 8:39intimate relationship with God. Remember, what does heaven
- 8:42represent? It doesn't represent we're not
- 8:44going to hell. That's a side effect.
- 8:46It represents our daily, intimate, loving relationship
- 8:51with God the Father. Every true Christian, that's
- 8:53what they're excited for. If you're not excited for that,
- 8:57if you're not excited for that, if you're not excited for that,
- 9:02you're not a Christian. Wow, Doug, that's amazing.
- 9:04You know, and yes, exactly, God has left his fingerprints all
- 9:08around us for a reason, right, Doug, to seek him out.
- 9:11Why is this? Why can we talking about, I
- 9:13mean, we can get into the galaxies, we can get into all
- 9:15the stars and get it out of the fingerprints.
- 9:17We can get all these things about the creation around us and
- 9:21also within us too, our DNA. You know, we've been talking a
- 9:25little bit recently about that and the, I mean, the fact that
- 9:27we have what 30 trillion cells with inside of us.
- 9:31I mean, come on, man, there's got it's God has left his
- 9:34evidence all around us here for a reason to cause us to seek
- 9:38that reason out to open up the Bible to find out why are we
- 9:44here. And Doug, we always talk about
- 9:46the relationship with God and that was broken when Adam and
- 9:49Eve sinned. And that from that time on, God
- 9:52has been wanting to re establish that relationship with us.
- 9:55He did that to his Son, Jesus Christ gave that example for us
- 9:59to follow. And man, I tell you what I'm I'm
- 10:03again, I always reflect back in this whereby when I first sat
- 10:07down and I talk about this often because I just I'm just I see
- 10:10the evidence so clear now in my life because I'm applying myself
- 10:16to seek that will all my heart dug.
- 10:18And that's what we're called to do Not not, not, not not a once
- 10:21a week scenario, but every single day from the time our
- 10:25eyeballs open up in the morning, praising God that we woke up
- 10:28that's morning and all the way through the day.
- 10:30Seek him consistently dug throughout the day.
- 10:32Yeah. Yeah, right, Kevin.
- 10:33And it's, this is the hard part is we have so many things to
- 10:37take our attention away from reflecting and thinking deeply
- 10:42into why we're here. What is the purpose of life?
- 10:47Like my dad had 13 dogs back in the day when I was young.
- 10:51Why? If nobody says gives any context
- 10:55to that, they say OK, well does he just let him run around the
- 10:57yard? Is he a dog lover?
- 10:59No, he's a pig hunter. Those dogs are to catch those
- 11:03pigs. That's why he has so many of
- 11:05them. Makes sense.
- 11:06So anybody ever took his place and just went to the park with
- 11:10the dogs, They'll, they'll wreak havoc.
- 11:12You take them in the mountain and you, you target them to the
- 11:15pigs, they'll catch 1415 pigs. So it's annoying what our
- 11:19purpose is now. We can.
- 11:22We can. If I knew this in the beginning,
- 11:24Kevin, if I knew my my part was to build an intimate
- 11:29relationship with God the Father, I would have known where
- 11:31the target was. But everybody told me it was
- 11:34Mystic. Say the prayer, click your heels
- 11:36three times and say I want to go to heaven.
- 11:38I want to go. There's no place like heaven.
- 11:40There's no, no, it's not. Mystic.
- 11:43How do we build a relationship? I listen to you, learn about
- 11:47you. You, I talk to you, you listen
- 11:50to me, learn about me. That's a relationship.
- 11:52Me and my wife, that's how we started our relationship and
- 11:55then love came. Same thing with God.
- 11:58We listen by reading His word. When we pray, He's listening to
- 12:02us. And that's when little by
- 12:05little, He starts to change our hearts.
- 12:06He starts to transform us. Yeah, Doug, that's the
- 12:09intellectual part of it. Yeah, Doug, the first eye.
- 12:12And again, great analogy in a relationship, not only do you
- 12:16want to know that person, we want to spend time with them
- 12:18every day. You know, we reflected this
- 12:20morning, you know, and on on my situation.
- 12:22If I had a, you know, a potential spouse in my in my
- 12:25life and she needed me at 3:00 in the morning, man, I'd wake up
- 12:29and make sure I'm there for her and doing everything I can to
- 12:32make sure that I show her my love by my actions.
- 12:36Because right, Doug, love is an action.
- 12:38So the intellectual part of our figure eyes is knowing what why
- 12:43we're here, knowing what God created us for, and then doing
- 12:46our part to make sure we initiate that correct.
- 12:49Correct. And knowing that we're sinners,
- 12:52that we have the cancer called sin.
- 12:56See, when I was born, I had asthma.
- 12:58It's not because I was a chain smoker in my mother's womb.
- 13:02It's because I inherited it. I'm blessed that we we grew out
- 13:06of it. Our family from my dad's side,
- 13:08we grew out of it. But I had asthma.
- 13:11So we have seen from Adam and Eve, they call it original sin.
- 13:16We have sin in US. And you can see that clearly in
- 13:18a 2 year old. The kids are young, they're
- 13:21they're selfish. It didn't didn't learn.
- 13:23That's not a learn trait. It's in them.
- 13:25We got to teach them how to be selfless.
- 13:29So foolishness is bound in the heart of a child, but the rod of
- 13:33discipline will drive it far from them.
- 13:35So Proverbs 2215 so little by little we teach them what the
- 13:39difference between right and wrong.
- 13:41So we make the pain of remaining the same greater than the pain
- 13:44of changing. So us spending time with God the
- 13:47Father. That's exactly what happened.
- 13:49So the first eye intellectual. Now we know we're sinners.
- 13:52We have the cancer called sin, but there's a plan for
- 13:55redemption. His grace allows us through
- 13:57Jesus to re establish that relationship with Him, not to
- 14:01just party on and sin on. No, it's not a covering.
- 14:04It's not an umbrella for us to do whatever we want.
- 14:07It's giving us the opportunity to build a relationship with God
- 14:12the Father. If it wasn't for his grace,
- 14:16he'll distance himself from us. He's holy.
- 14:19We're not. He has a white suit on tuxedo.
- 14:23We're filthy, filled with or or mud all around us.
- 14:28He's going to stay away from us, so to speak, so he cannot let
- 14:32the unforgiven into heaven. He's not like us.
- 14:34We'll slide people in the back door, people that we love and we
- 14:38like. His standard is pure.
- 14:40We're contaminated. I can't trust how I feel, but
- 14:44what I think that's why I'm big on Scripture.
- 14:47You know that I'm always filter it through God's Word.
- 14:50Acts 1711 even they even checked Paul, the Bereans, they didn't
- 14:55trust Paul and that's a good example.
- 14:58God left it in there to say don't trust anybody, including
- 15:02me. And ourselves, of course, right,
- 15:05Doug? And you know, you talked about,
- 15:07you know, the rod of discipline drives sin out of the of the
- 15:10choke. God is also in that in that
- 15:12sense with us, right, Doug, we have to align ourselves.
- 15:16We can't just continue to live in sin and think somehow that
- 15:19that grace allows us to continue on that way.
- 15:23It's grace is misunderstood today or by they think it's not
- 15:27why I can sin and it's OK, God's going to forgive me.
- 15:29But no grace is actually the way by which we can actually
- 15:34approach God to have a relationship.
- 15:36Correct, Doug. Correct.
- 15:37And Grace. Grace covers us.
- 15:40Kev, when you see your son, let's say my oldest son, Dougie,
- 15:45he was young. If I see him trying his hardest,
- 15:48let's say he has 10 things to do around the house chores.
- 15:52He does 8 of them, but he tried to get all ten of them done.
- 15:55He just wasn't capable of it. We came home late, got dark, had
- 16:01to eat dinner, he had homework. I get it.
- 16:03He gets an A. He tried.
- 16:06That's the difference. Even if we can we get AC or AF
- 16:10because that's our potential at the time God looks at the heart.
- 16:14Did we give it all we had? Did we try our hardest?
- 16:18And even if it's an F or AC in the world standard, just an in
- 16:21God's He looks at our sacrifice are are we really?
- 16:25Do we really want to know him? That's what he says, When you
- 16:28seek me, you will find me when you seek me with all your heart.
- 16:34Right, Doug, And that's what we're about here at Christ Built
- 16:36Ministries is get is getting to the heart of the issue going
- 16:41deep. This is you always refer to
- 16:42this, Doug, that what we're doing is hard work.
- 16:45The change that's going on in our heart, how the word of God
- 16:48changes us, how the Holy Spirit works with us.
- 16:51When we do, for example, use that example with, you know, the
- 16:5410 chores, you know, say throughout the day, we which we
- 16:58do our best to apply ourselves to the spiritual routine that we
- 17:01have at Christ built Ministries. We don't just check the box off.
- 17:04Maybe initially we might do that initially, Doug, but as our
- 17:07heart changes and we start to find out the real love of God
- 17:11for us, Doug, man, I tell you what inspires me to want to have
- 17:15a relationship even deeper with God.
- 17:17Right. And remember checking the box,
- 17:19that's called maturity. When when you're an infant is
- 17:23crying at 2:00 in the morning, you don't feel like getting up
- 17:26and feeding them or changing them.
- 17:27You check the box, you do it because it needs to be done.
- 17:32So it's you can't, we can't go on.
- 17:34We feel like it because most of the time we won't.
- 17:37Once we set our minds and we we set our heart on doing it.
- 17:43Let's just let your yes be yes and you know be no see love.
- 17:47It's more loving, Kev, if you go to a my grandson Dax's baseball
- 17:54game when you when you don't like to go to games, you don't
- 17:57like to sit in the sun, you don't like to watch baseball,
- 17:59let's say so your enjoyment is at A2.
- 18:03Let's say mine is at a 10 because it's my grandson.
- 18:06Now it takes more effort for you to go to that game than me.
- 18:11So that act of you sacrificing your love is greater than mine.
- 18:16So if we wait till we're ready to feel or we feel like doing
- 18:20it, anybody can do it. It's getting up early in the
- 18:23morning, spending time with God the Father because we love Him,
- 18:26not because I feel like it, because I love Him.
- 18:30If I'm making breakfast with my wife or taking care of her,
- 18:33doing the laundry, cleaning the house, I say she usually does
- 18:36it. Doug, why are you doing all
- 18:38that? Because I'm I'm the husband.
- 18:41I need to pick up after her because I love my wife.
- 18:45That's the key. See if the relationship is
- 18:48healthy, Kev love. There's no bounds, there's no
- 18:52boundaries. If you get love for God, he, he
- 18:55says they're no longer commands. It don't need to be, Kev.
- 18:59It's our desire to please him and.
- 19:01That's exactly right, Doug is I think you had it really, really
- 19:05clear as having a healthy relationship.
- 19:08What does it mean to have a healthy relationship with God?
- 19:11Because the world defines relationships as healthy
- 19:13relationships by spending time again, picking up, helping each
- 19:16other, being a good partner. That's also our responsibility
- 19:20to to create a healthy relationship with God is to make
- 19:23sure that not only just check. Sometimes we check the box, you
- 19:26know, like back in my story, Doug, whereby I got to the
- 19:29island here 12 years ago, I was out of shape, wasn't feeling
- 19:32good about myself, but I made a commitment to myself to get up
- 19:35at 3:00 in the morning. And that was my first
- 19:39intellectual decision that I had to make to do that.
- 19:42And there was nothing that was going to stand in my way to do
- 19:45that. And so I made that commitment
- 19:47and just the same way in that relevance whereby we make that
- 19:51same commitment to have that relationship, seeking God with
- 19:54all of our heart every single day.
- 19:57Correct, and when you make that intellectual relationship now,
- 20:01the heart is a driving force, that passion, that love.
- 20:05I get up sometimes having to do Hana tours.
- 20:07I love you, Father, give me strength.
- 20:09I can do this with you and you can get up and say ha, another
- 20:13day or thank you. Like what a beautiful day,
- 20:16depending on how you look at it. Help Him help you.
- 20:22Keeping in step with the Holy Spirit is looking at it as a
- 20:25blessing. Not looking at it as a burden,
- 20:28you see. So, so it's it's seeking him the
- 20:32intimacy with with with God and working things out.
- 20:35Is that working things out good or bad?
- 20:39You see a lot of people when it's bad, when things are UN
- 20:43uncomfortable or sensitive, they don't want to talk about it.
- 20:48So it's like the elephant is walking around the room and
- 20:50everybody's trying to ignore the elephant saying, who's the
- 20:53elephant in this? Let's talk about this.
- 20:56Let's get this elephant out of here.
- 20:58But they don't. So it's very like, it's like
- 21:00walking on egg shells when you go to family get togethers
- 21:03because there's conflict and people cut off people.
- 21:07I don't want him to cut me off. I don't want them to cut me off.
- 21:11When we follow God, we do what is right.
- 21:14God won't cut us off. We follow what he says because
- 21:18he's the engineer. He's our creator.
- 21:21I don't like I told you, his word has to be the lamp to my
- 21:24feet because my emotions, they're like a yo-yo.
- 21:28They go all over the place. Thank God he doesn't.
- 21:33Right, Doug. And you know that one of the
- 21:36things about building a Christ built relationship with with our
- 21:40core group here, Doug, is that we have the opportunity to face
- 21:44those elephants in the room. You know, we've had some
- 21:47experiences together where, you know, my, my, my personality is
- 21:51that when I get in conflict and there's an elephant in the room,
- 21:53what do I do is I put my running shoes on and I run away.
- 21:56And that's been my habit in my life.
- 21:59I'm 62 years old now. It's been a great inhabiting me
- 22:01that whenever I'm facing conflict or I've been facing
- 22:04challenge, I put on those shoes and run away.
- 22:06But because I have spent the time with you and Brandon over
- 22:10the last almost year of my life getting to know you, getting to
- 22:14know what, what, what, how you, how you operate, how you think.
- 22:18It's the same way with building a relationship with God, Doug.
- 22:21I've maybe we make a commitment to each other to stay in that
- 22:24uncomfortable place. And sometimes it's uncomfortable
- 22:27when God does the hard work inside of us, right, Doug?
- 22:30Right. And the key is US working
- 22:33together in love, like a husband and a wife, a family.
- 22:37Love covers a multitude of sins. What does that mean?
- 22:40That means forgive, let it go. The relationship is the most
- 22:45important. Let's get past this.
- 22:48So I told you, Kev, if I even if I'm not wrong, if you're
- 22:52struggling with something I did and let's say it's justified,
- 22:56I'll apologize anyway to get you over that, to get you over that.
- 23:00It's not an obstacle in your life.
- 23:02And that's the greatest love. Is this for one person to lay
- 23:05down their life for another? That's what Jesus did, and he
- 23:08wasn't at fault. Talk about pure love.
- 23:12Exactly, Doug, what a great example of that is.
- 23:15And that's what we do here, guys at Men Helping Men, as we bring
- 23:19you to that place through our daily spiritual routine,
- 23:22bringing to the foot of the cross, getting that hard work
- 23:25done, not just cutting the grass off, like we said at the top,
- 23:28but going deep inside of us because a lot of us have these
- 23:31ingrained habits, the way we think, the way we behave.
- 23:34But we want to act and we want to behave in the fashion of a
- 23:37godly man of godly woman, going to the core root of those things
- 23:41here at Men Helping Men. And that's what we do.
- 23:43And we're so appreciated that we have this opportunity to share
- 23:47this on this radio show today with you.
- 23:51We're going to actually go out here in just a little bit, but
- 23:53we got another song coming in. Make sure you check out our Our
- 23:56Men Helping Men YouTube station where we have a bunch of amazing
- 24:00music. We had over 400 songs now out
- 24:02there. We've got some great events
- 24:04coming up here in the next 6 months here in Maui with the Men
- 24:06Helping Men Foundation. But again, Doug, a privilege it
- 24:10is to sit with you and Brandon to talk about our Lord and
- 24:13Savior every single Wednesday here.
- 24:15And by the way, we're thinking about up in the the schedule
- 24:17here and maybe joining you guys another two days a week here as
- 24:20well. Yeah, what a privilege it is,
- 24:22Kev, that we we have God's word. Yeah, as a guide, as a lamp to
- 24:27our feet and knowing how to establish and interpret his
- 24:29word. And that's why Christfield
- 24:31Christian Academy hopefully is is is along the lines of what's
- 24:35going to happen, what God is going to do to train the
- 24:37children when they we'll be back.
- 24:39All right, listen to this next song as we come in, guys.
- 24:41Aloha. Fox News.
- 25:20I'm Tom Graham. the US military conducting fresh air strikes in
- 25:23Iran this evening. President Trump said earlier the
- 25:25Pentagon was going to hit that nation hard.
- 25:27You know, we got to smack them a little bit.
- 25:29Now the strikes following Iran firing a barrage of missiles and
- 25:32American forces in the Middle East, the Dow's suffering its
- 25:35worst one day of losses this year.
- 25:37The sell off came the same day Federal Reserve Chair Kevin
- 25:41Walsh announced the central bank would leave its key interest
- 25:44rate unchanged. President Trump reacting.
- 25:47Not disappointed in Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Wash has
- 25:50picked the lead the Federal Reserve after months of
- 25:52criticizing the former chair, Jerome Powell.
- 25:55I know I'd love to see lower interest rates, but he's got a
- 25:58board. The Federal Reserve's Board of
- 26:00Governors left rates unchanged, but three officials dissented in
- 26:04favor of raising interest rates to combat inflation.

- 27:45The 24/7 in my life chasing my own
- 28:24fame bag full of plants still empty in my chest.
- 28:27Man, he broke my chains, didn't more than just bless me, saw my
- 28:30life lying in blood. Now he.
- 28:32Owns me, I'm not my own. Son.
- 31:17Welcome back to MEN Helping Men. Thank you for joining us this
- 31:21afternoon here on this Wednesday afternoon.
- 31:23Another great song. But you know the thing what I
- 31:26love about you, Doug, is everything you do is strategic.
- 31:29Why did we choose that song coming back in to put to the
- 31:32show here today, Doug? Yeah, everything I do when I'm
- 31:37sober is strategic talk to my wife.
- 31:42Alcohol ruined our lives. So I've been sober since March
- 31:465th, 2022. So it's the drinking that
- 31:49stopped the hamster from running around the wheel in my head,
- 31:53overthinking things, worrying, letting that voice in my head
- 31:58just downed me and the things that I fell short of throughout
- 32:01my life, even if it's like 30 plus years ago.
- 32:04I brain comes back to my memory takes me down that dark Rd. like
- 32:08a lot of you know, and when I was the chaplain of M triple CI
- 32:12talk about that voice and the guy said, you hear my voice.
- 32:17We have our own voices. Unfortunately with God, he
- 32:20silences that. He heals the open wound that
- 32:23hurt shortcoming, she says. I forgive you.
- 32:26Come on, let's deal with that to come on.
- 32:29Absolutely, Doug, and I am a recipient of that myself, man.
- 32:35So much has happened since we've been sitting together, Doug,
- 32:38over the last year. I remember just, you know, that
- 32:41voice in my head, I'm never going to be good enough.
- 32:43I'm never going to be smart enough.
- 32:44I'm never going to get this, you know, and just your
- 32:46encouragement all the time, Doug, Stick with a Kev, watch
- 32:50what God will do. You know, there's a call in your
- 32:51life, Kev. You got to know that.
- 32:53And you know, I embrace that. And I was willing to face those
- 32:57difficult moments and those challenges and those inner
- 33:00voices to have the Holy Spirit work and heal my heart, to
- 33:03silence that voice in my head and in my heart.
- 33:07And boy, I tell you what, so grateful.
- 33:10So grateful, Doug. Yeah, Kevin, you did a great
- 33:13job. And that's the thing where you
- 33:14can see the change because it's internal.
- 33:17When he's healing the hurt inside, things change straight
- 33:21across the board in every category of your life because
- 33:25you change. He's reprogramming us from the
- 33:29heart. If I tried out of discipline
- 33:31before, before knowing this, I tried to change in certain areas
- 33:35and that's the only areas I can manage to change in.
- 33:39That's if I'm having a good day, bomb me a couple times when I'm
- 33:42coming home from work, I can't even, I can't even get AC in
- 33:46those areas. And let alone the other areas of
- 33:49life that I was only getting AC. They're down to the F now.
- 33:52I mean, they're going to 'cause they're going to cause havoc.
- 33:56So it's healing our hearts. So it's like, it's like a car.
- 33:59Back in the day, we had carburetors.
- 34:02It's overhauling your carburetor because your car's not running
- 34:04right. When you overhaul their
- 34:05carburetor changes all the gaskets.
- 34:07Now the gas flows through it is perfect.
- 34:09It runs perfectly, just like the engineer created it to run,
- 34:13'cause our engineer, he says your heart is clogged, your
- 34:16arteries are clogged, is narrowed, a lot of them.
- 34:19Your heart is hard. You don't love when you're
- 34:21supposed to love. You don't care when you're
- 34:23supposed to care. Father, I can't, I get too much
- 34:26hurt in my heart. I have to harden my heart so I
- 34:28don't get hurt because once it's in me, I don't know how to get
- 34:31out of it. I don't know how to get it out
- 34:33of me. And like I said with like I was
- 34:36telling you about my daughter when we had.
- 34:38She loves her dogs. Yeah.
- 34:39So the two dogs that the one of the boys died, I couldn't go in
- 34:43there and they had to put them down.
- 34:45Nothing we could do to save them.
- 34:46I couldn't go in with her. My wife had to go in because I
- 34:50couldn't visually see that happening and deal with it
- 34:54properly because it would replay in my head.
- 34:56Like I said, the over over dwelling on it again and again
- 35:01and again, just taking me down the dark road.
- 35:03And that's why I said I used to drink taking pain pills because
- 35:07that would stop the thinking, stop the overthinking.
- 35:12So that's the that's the point that that's the challenge that
- 35:15people. Right, Doug?
- 35:16Right, Doug, you know it's kind of come back full circle here
- 35:19because we started off the top of the hour talking about the
- 35:21three eyes, intellectual knowledge of God, intimate
- 35:26knowledge of God and then now the third eye in that, in that
- 35:30three eye process is to initiate, correct?
- 35:34Correct, and the intimate part of God is spending time with Him
- 35:38like we talked about. Even if we get AC in the world's
- 35:42eyes, He grades us on us, sacrificing our time trying.
- 35:47See Deuteronomy 1718 through 20, when the first king had to write
- 35:51down the decrees in front of the Levitical priest and come to God
- 35:55every day and read them. Why?
- 35:57He's going to memorize. It's the point of connecting to
- 36:00God every single day. And when the king did that or we
- 36:06come to him every day, he will bless us.
- 36:09Bless us, meaning He will reveal himself to us.
- 36:11He will start to heal our hearts.
- 36:13He will start to transform us little by little.
- 36:17It's a process. It's like growing my kids.
- 36:20My wife Lilia would come to me and say we got to take him to
- 36:23the emergency room. Why their legs, Her legs are
- 36:26sore. If it's Cherie, my oldest, my
- 36:29oldest daughter, or Dougie, I said that's growing pains.
- 36:33They can't. They can't do anything for them.
- 36:35They got to go through the pain. They're going to.
- 36:37They're growing. They're getting taller.
- 36:39Right, exactly. And boy, I tell you, what have I
- 36:42experienced the growth pains myself whereby revealing of my
- 36:47selfishness, revealing the fact that, you know, I even walked
- 36:51into this life, you know, being through the things I've been
- 36:54through thinking, well, I've never hurt anybody.
- 36:55What do you mean? I've heard.
- 36:57Come on now. And I mean, really, I woke up to
- 36:59that fact and realized, yeah, I've done a lot of hurting to a
- 37:02lot of people. You know, fortunately, Doug, in
- 37:04my life, you know, I didn't turn to drugs or alcohol, but I did
- 37:07turn to other things that, you know, I smoked.
- 37:10I've smoked weed like a house on fire for years and years and
- 37:13years for 20 years of my life. I did other things in my life to
- 37:16mask that pain. And when I've started going
- 37:20intending and sitting with you guys at Christville, finding out
- 37:24how to heal that heart, finding out the intimate relationship
- 37:28that God wants to have with me, man, I dropped these habits that
- 37:31I'd had. I tried for years and years and
- 37:33years. How to drop these habits, Doug.
- 37:35And you always tell me that's, that's, it's unexplainable that
- 37:38therefore you know that that's God working in you, that's the
- 37:41Holy Spirit convicting you. Because I never told you.
- 37:44I just said, hey, Doug, you know what?
- 37:46And I was, and I was convicted deeply when I would walk away,
- 37:50go away from, you know, our gatherings and go back to my
- 37:52house and sit in my own place and revert right back to my old
- 37:55ways. But then the Holy Spirit
- 37:56convicted me in one night so deeply, I was like, Nope,
- 37:59immediately smucked. I mean, after 20 years of
- 38:02smoking weed like a chimney, though one day gone, Doug.
- 38:06But that was because the Holy Spirit revealed that place in my
- 38:09heart and the hurt that I'd had in there.
- 38:12And I was able to work through that with you coaching me along,
- 38:16you know, by my personal trainer, the Holy Spirit, but
- 38:18then also you, Doug, as my spiritual trainer, my coach,
- 38:22telling me how Kebby, stick with this.
- 38:24I guarantee it's going to work for you.
- 38:26Yeah, Kevin and and I remember that and that's why you want me
- 38:30to always make reggae songs. But that's true.
- 38:37It's God can it's the coming to him where he feels that.
- 38:40See, even with my drinking and when, when I first quitted March
- 38:445th, I, I almost had the inkling to go back when my, the, the
- 38:50family was awake. Rocky was, was, was on vacation
- 38:54with my parents and I was by myself.
- 38:56It's like grab some beer, you know, And I almost did.
- 39:01And I check with God. I said, why did I almost want to
- 39:05grab beer again? Why was it so close?
- 39:07He said, because you're praying for strength not to drink.
- 39:10You're not getting to the root of the problem in your heart.
- 39:12Why do you drink? I drink to Yeah.
- 39:16To not overthink things and to feel peace and relaxation.
- 39:21He said you should get that from me.
- 39:23Pray for your heart to heal. Get to the root of the problem.
- 39:27See, God solves the problem. He doesn't give you pain
- 39:32medication. Bear aspirin to mask the pain so
- 39:36you can cope with it. He cures the problem.
- 39:39He pulls out that root that's causing me to need to drink,
- 39:43causing me to need to pop pain pills or whatever your vice is
- 39:47to. Cope exactly Doug.
- 39:49So coming into that we have that third eye again initiation,
- 39:53initiate. What does it mean to initiate,
- 39:56Doug? What is it?
- 39:57The third eye and that did not be equation?
- 39:59So it's like a marriage. When I intellectually know how
- 40:03my wife acts and reacts to certain things, how she is, how
- 40:08she isn't in certain areas, I start to because I spend.
- 40:13Daily time with her, quality time.
- 40:15I start to develop that intimate relationship, that emotional
- 40:19connection. I start to love her.
- 40:22And then it's will you marry me? I do.
- 40:27It's the choosing to say I understand what my my role is.
- 40:32Testament means covenant or agreement.
- 40:35When Jesus dies on the cross, Father, I know why he's dying
- 40:38because I'm a Sinner. He's going to redeem me
- 40:41primarily so I can build an intimate daily relationship with
- 40:44you. I understand that
- 40:47intellectually. I trust you intimately.
- 40:50I know you love me. You love me when I didn't
- 40:52deserve it. I deserve the lava rock to the
- 40:54head. But you still had patience with
- 40:57me. You still waited, you still
- 41:00encourage me and you say go encourage others.
- 41:03Love your wife on condition, love your family on condition.
- 41:07I want to be a part of you, father.
- 41:09I do. That's when you walk through the
- 41:11gate and you initiate, you apply and it goes from I need to till
- 41:17I get to I need to follow him till I get to follow him.
- 41:22Wow. Exactly, Doug.
- 41:24What a what a profound transformation and and and
- 41:28shift, as it were in all of our lives.
- 41:30What we realize we get to do this.
- 41:32And you know, one really cool thing and I just have to say is
- 41:35that when I started learning how how to accurately read God's
- 41:40word and I and I reflected on this with you last week whereby
- 41:43go and reading the Old Testament.
- 41:45I used to think, Oh my gosh, why am I going to read this dry
- 41:49books that like kind of like for me when I was back in high
- 41:51school studying history. Why did I want to know about
- 41:54that? Well, you know, the fact of the
- 41:55matter is that when you understand how to accurately
- 41:59read God's word, the Old Testament is talking about God's
- 42:02character, what he likes. He doesn't like how he, how he
- 42:06interacts with his people and that there begins to
- 42:10intellectually, intimately and now the initiation of wanting to
- 42:15know more about him. Because I see his character
- 42:18throughout the Old Testament, how particular he is and how
- 42:21detailed he is. You know, when you talk about
- 42:23reading through the numbers and stuff, how the temples will
- 42:25build, the measurements and all that stuff, it's because God is
- 42:28a God of order. And it takes a way out of the
- 42:31realm of traditional Churchianity and Christianese
- 42:35whereby God no longer becomes Mystic anymore.
- 42:38It now becomes a reality. This is the God that we serve,
- 42:42God of order, a God of love. And when we, when we apply those
- 42:45things to our life, that's when the roots start to grow deep,
- 42:48deep, deep. We begin to heal our hearts so
- 42:51we can actually get and want to love God every single day.
- 42:55Yeah, Kevin, when you and we read that book, it takes more
- 42:58faith to be an atheist because when you really dig into the
- 43:02creation and you go into the cosmos, the if we're 1% closer
- 43:06to the sun will burn up, 2% farther away, everything will
- 43:10freeze up. So it's so perfectly
- 43:12orchestrated. God didn't say he he's not a
- 43:17Burger King God or you have it your way, It's precise.
- 43:20This is the way you do it. So the song owned by God, we're
- 43:25either a slave, Romans 6 chapter 6, we're either a slave to sin,
- 43:30slave to Satan, or we're a slave to righteousness, slave to God.
- 43:35Now in in the Old Testament, the Israelites when they had slaves,
- 43:39the 7th year, they have to release them ordered by God.
- 43:43But some slaves they they treated like family.
- 43:46They don't want to leave. So God says you can't stay
- 43:50willingly punch a hole in your ear on the door frame of your
- 43:53homes and say, I willingly accept Kevin as my master and
- 43:59I'll I'll continue to be a slave on my own free will.
- 44:04That's salvation. That's the that's the initiate I
- 44:09do. That's the marriage for better
- 44:12or for worse, till death do us part no matter what.
- 44:16Now it's not a feeling no matter what.
- 44:19Even if I'm not getting return on my investment, my wife is
- 44:23treating me bad. Let's say she's going through
- 44:25some issues. My my goal and my role is to
- 44:29love her Anyway. Why?
- 44:31Why would I do that? How would I know how to do that?
- 44:33Because that's how God loved me because of that.
- 44:37Daily. Relationship start is admit your
- 44:41sins. I fall short every day I don't.
- 44:45I'm not as grateful as I should be.
- 44:47I cannot love God the way he deserves me to love you.
- 44:51And I fall short and it it hurts that I do and he still.
- 44:56Loves me back. Anyway, I would have cut me from
- 44:58the team. But he doesn't, he says.
- 45:01You see how I love you when you don't deserve it.
- 45:04Love your wife when she doesn't deserve it, Love others.
- 45:07Love your enemy when he doesn't deserve it.
- 45:09I'll set you free. Free to do what?
- 45:11Free to party on? Drink it again?
- 45:14No free to do his will. Now I'm I can love and not be
- 45:20loved back. I can be nice and be rejected.
- 45:23I can be patient behind the slow drivers on my way.
- 45:30We know that all too well, don't we?
- 45:32Out there listening? Yes, we do.
- 45:33But you know, I love the fact that we say we get to Doug.
- 45:37You know, by the way, this program is made possible by
- 45:41Hawaiian Style tour and transportation, the company that
- 45:44the family owns here. You know, one of the
- 45:46introductions I say to my guests when I meet them as I am so
- 45:49fortunate that I get to go do this.
- 45:52We today I don't have to. And so just like when we wake up
- 45:56to have her and start a new day that we are so fortunate, we get
- 46:00to have a relationship with God because God is doing the deep
- 46:04work in our hearts to uproot those things.
- 46:07And and you know, we talk also, Doug, about the black dog, white
- 46:10dog. What are you going to feed?
- 46:11We're going to wake up in the morning field to feed the black
- 46:13dog, which is our sin nature. Are we going to feed the white
- 46:15dog, which is our godly character and how God wants to
- 46:18work in US? And he's waiting.
- 46:21I mean, he's there, right there waiting for us.
- 46:22He's waiting for us to cry out, beg to him again.
- 46:25And not mysticism, but knowing him through his word, getting to
- 46:28understand his character, his nature and who he is.
- 46:31And he's waiting for us, Doug, waiting for us every morning,
- 46:34just like we would when our kids wake up in the morning to greet
- 46:37us in the morning. Hey, welcome, son.
- 46:39Good to see you. Good to see your daughter.
- 46:40Yeah. Doug.
- 46:41Yeah. Amen.
- 46:41And if he loves? Us way, way more than we love
- 46:44our own children. My all my children are older.
- 46:47So it's like, yeah, I long to to spend time with them.
- 46:50I look for. And unfortunately, we can live
- 46:53about 10 minutes apart. We don't see each other.
- 46:56We need events to happen, baseball, basketball, family
- 47:00reunions or parties, which is sad.
- 47:03See, that's not how the ancient Hawaiians did it.
- 47:06They lived on a plot of land. They didn't have the technology
- 47:09that we have today. They didn't have cars and
- 47:12planes. They're not going to Vegas all
- 47:14the time. You know, they actually sat
- 47:17there and talked. Imagine if you didn't have
- 47:19television, we had no cell phones and you just with
- 47:23candlelight, you know what you're sitting around, you might
- 47:25as well talk to each other because that's what that's what
- 47:27was happening. Remember, we went to the
- 47:29restaurant. We went to taste.
- 47:31It was tasty cross, you know me, you and Brandy were sitting
- 47:33there. We look at the family.
- 47:34They're all looking at their phone.
- 47:36They're sitting on the table, not talking to each other, all
- 47:39on their phones. And that's where we we come to
- 47:42today. That's why it's easier for a
- 47:44camel to enter the eye of a needle than a rich person to
- 47:48enter the Kingdom of heaven. Because do I spend time reading
- 47:52God's word, spend time with God, or do I watch American Idol or
- 47:57do I watch so and so whatever show football or do I look on my
- 48:01phone? Do I get distracted by by Satan
- 48:04giving me my phone to Galavant on Amazon or wherever?
- 48:08See, that's the challenge that we have as Americans today.
- 48:12Exactly, Doug, you know. And just to reflecting on it, on
- 48:15a little personal experience that I had just last weekend
- 48:18where we went to the baseball tournament for Dax and for the
- 48:22fam and I brought me to tears because, you know, your
- 48:25grandkids, you know, Papa Doug, Papa Doug, Papa Doug, you know,
- 48:30I just looked at that and I thought, man, what a gift, what
- 48:33a blessing. And that's what God is like for
- 48:36us. He's like, you know, God, we get
- 48:38to Godfather God, we get to spend time with you today.
- 48:41Thank. But again, we're not wired to do
- 48:43it that way, right, Doug? Now God doesn't wire us to
- 48:46actually do that. We have to actually have our
- 48:48hearts healed in order to come to that place in our
- 48:51relationship with him. And that's what we do at Christ
- 48:53Built is we find that way of how do we get to have that daily
- 48:57intimate relationship with him? Right, right.
- 49:00And and. That's how we learn, Kev.
- 49:02It's, it's knowing what standard he has, what is right.
- 49:07How do I want my grandkids to? When I say I love you, they say
- 49:12I know not. I have to tell them so they
- 49:15know. I want to show them so they
- 49:18know. So I ask God, when I'm spending
- 49:21time, how do I show love? You go to the games and you
- 49:25support them, and when you see them, you react to them like
- 49:29they're the most important person in the world.
- 49:32And I learned that from Cheers When Norm.
- 49:36Walks into the bar norm. Like I'm going to take that and
- 49:39I'm going to apply exactly. That's how I'm greeted every.
- 49:45Morning. Come on.
- 49:46Oh, right. Yeah, exactly, guys.
- 49:48What it you know, I have to say, Doug, you know, as we've gone
- 49:52here and now we're in our 28th episode here at Men Helping Men
- 49:55and I just such a privilege to share our faith, how God works
- 50:01in our life and what God's doing in our in our core group here.
- 50:05And you know, again, just reflecting, Doug, just, you
- 50:10know, all my church experience coming up to this point where I
- 50:13walked away from God for a long time because I was sick of that
- 50:16Mystic idea. Just say the prayer, clock your
- 50:19heels together, You know, coming back to a full circle, how we
- 50:22have this intellectual knowledge of God.
- 50:25We have this intimate knowledge of God, and then we get to
- 50:28initiate our relationship with him.
- 50:30And what a privilege it is to sit with you guys every
- 50:33Wednesday, a blessing to gather every morning because you know
- 50:38you're hot for God, Doug, you're going to be either hot or cold,
- 50:41right? Doug, you're going to, it's,
- 50:42it's no in between. And so I have to tell you what
- 50:45this pastor Doug that we, that we sit with, boy, I tell you
- 50:47he's hot for God. I'm going to tell you what
- 50:51privilege it is to sit with you every single week, every day,
- 50:54seven days a week, we do it. You know that in my, my, my, my
- 50:58relationships, you only need a break once in a while.
- 51:01Doug's like, oh, yeah, you need a break from God.
- 51:02Really. Really.
- 51:03Why do you want? Why do you need a break from
- 51:04God? He's waiting for you.
- 51:06He's waiting for you to show up. And that's what we do at Christ,
- 51:09built as we seek him with all of our hearts every week, every
- 51:13day. Yeah.
- 51:14And I would tell you can't remember.
- 51:15It's like, yeah, just. I'm exasperated.
- 51:17I can't do it. I'm too tired.
- 51:19I said if I gave you $1000, what could you do it?
- 51:21OK, I'll do it. Exactly.
- 51:23Or if you're or if the girl said, hey, let's go read
- 51:25together. He said OK, so he's checking our
- 51:28hearts. We making excuses, you know, and
- 51:31that's the thing when we find out he's the answer, he's the,
- 51:34he's that, that person that fills that void in our hearts.
- 51:38Ecclesiastes 311 that we search for, you see Hollywood searching
- 51:42for they got everything, fame, fortune, you know, prestige and
- 51:47they, how many divorces, how many people they, they, they
- 51:51interact with, they got how many wives, how many husbands.
- 51:54The money doesn't bring you to happiness.
- 51:56Fame doesn't bring you to the Holy Spirit in your heart and a
- 52:00relationship with God first. We'll bring happiness and we'll
- 52:04bring meaningful relationships with everybody else down the
- 52:09line. Thank you for joining us here on
