Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Right, let's talk aviation now. Time is twenty two minutes
- 0:03Speaker 1: after five. Westport's losing its only air service. Originally has
- 0:06Speaker 1: been running the Wellington Westport route since Soundzier pulled out,
- 0:09Speaker 1: but now that's done too. War was the last straw.
- 0:13Speaker 1: They're losing five hundred k a year on the route.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Iron King Aviation Industry commentation with us this morning, iron
- 0:18Speaker 1: good morning.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Good morning here.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Surprised, No, not at all.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Really, this route's been extremely marginal for as long as
- 0:26Speaker 2: I can remember.
- 0:28Speaker 1: So what happens now? Will anyone come in? Or that
- 0:31Speaker 1: was sort of the last chance alone.
- 0:36Speaker 2: I'd say, you know, it might be sustainable for sort
- 0:40Speaker 2: of unscheduled casual operations, but for a schedule operation, you know,
- 0:45Speaker 2: that's sort of a fixed cost. And yeah, no, I'd
- 0:49Speaker 2: say it's going to be very tough to get anyone
- 0:51Speaker 2: in there and.
- 0:52Speaker 1: House you know, full with the planes.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Well, from what I can work out, you know, the
- 1:01Speaker 2: weekends were okay, but you know it's a typical problem
- 1:06Speaker 2: of midweek and who wants to travel midweek? And so
- 1:10Speaker 2: you know, obviously when you get a below about eighty
- 1:14Speaker 2: percent load sector on these routes, you start losing a
- 1:18Speaker 2: lot of money.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Iron Appreciate your time this morning. That's Iron King Aviation Commentator.
