- 1:08SPEAKER_02: And we have a new guest joining us today that will be with us later on in the episode.
- 1:15SPEAKER_02: But first, we have a few other items to get to.
- 1:18SPEAKER_02: One being UFC 333.
- 1:20SPEAKER_02: I will give you guys a quick recap of some of the biggest results from that fight card, as well as an update of the first five game or excuse me, four games of the World Series.
- 1:32SPEAKER_02: Game five is actually occurring tonight after this recording.
- 1:35SPEAKER_02: So first four games of the MLB World Series.
- 1:40SPEAKER_02: We left you last week heading into game one, and we have seen four results in the world series so far.
- 1:47SPEAKER_02: And then, as always, we will do our weekly NFL recap from week seven, our NFL week eight preview, and as always, our tail the tailgate picks.
- 1:58SPEAKER_02: So let's get to it.
- 2:00SPEAKER_02: So let's start in the UFC in the octagon.
- 2:04SPEAKER_02: UFC 333 took place on Saturday, October 24th.
- 2:08SPEAKER_02: It was a banger of an afternoon card.
- 2:12SPEAKER_02: If you got a chance to watch this, I know you enjoyed it.
- 2:15SPEAKER_02: If you didn't, you certainly missed out.
- 2:17SPEAKER_02: Uh, we had two title fights on this card the bantamweight title, uh, currently held by Pior Jan, as well as the featherweight title held by Alexander Volkanovsky.
- 2:29SPEAKER_02: We had a few other great fights on the main card as well as on the prelims.
- 2:35SPEAKER_02: One of the biggest uh prelimb fights that I want to call out is Dominic Reyes, a guy that has had a very, very challenging career, um, a lot of significant injuries, especially that devastating leg injury he had after his fight against um John Bones Jones years and years ago.
- 2:55SPEAKER_02: But he's won four of his last five fights, including knockout wins over Anthony Leinhard Smith, Nikita Krylov.
- 3:02SPEAKER_02: He lost by knockout to Carlos Olberg, but then also beat Johnny Walker, and he got another knockout of Azumat Mirzakami on Saturday in the first round, a devastating leg kick that knocked out Mirzakanov in the first round.
- 3:19SPEAKER_02: Um, he was one of the best prelim performances that I saw in this fight card.
- 3:24SPEAKER_02: Um, Abdul Rachman Yakyav, he also knocked out.
- 3:28SPEAKER_02: Speaking of Nikita Krylov and that light heavyweight division, he also got a first round uh knee kick knockout to Nikita Krylov.
- 3:37SPEAKER_02: It was very, very impressive.
- 3:39SPEAKER_02: Abdul Rachman, Yakiaev is now 11-0 in his mixed martial arts career.
- 3:44SPEAKER_02: Um, a few other callouts that I feel like are worth mentioning before we get to the two main fights.
- 3:50SPEAKER_02: Aaron Pico, a guy that I have very, very high hopes for in the featherweight division.
- 3:56SPEAKER_02: He absolutely cleaned up with Losine Keta on the opening fight of the main card.
- 4:03SPEAKER_02: A first round knockout, only a minute and 14 seconds into that fight.
- 4:07SPEAKER_02: He that guy is very, very impressive.
- 4:10SPEAKER_02: Um I I really really am high on what Pico is capable of.
- 4:17SPEAKER_02: Um that was a wonderful showing from Aaron Pico on that main card fight against Los Inceta.
- 4:24SPEAKER_02: Um, Alexander Volkov got a unanimous decision win over Riz uh Riz Rizvian Kuniev in the heavyweight division.
- 4:32SPEAKER_02: Alexander Volkov, that guy is gonna be fighting in the UFC by the time I'm 90.
- 4:37SPEAKER_02: This was his 52nd career mixed martial arts fight, and still getting the job done with two 30-27s on the judges' scorecards there.
- 4:46SPEAKER_02: Uh Lonir Kavanaugh, the Englishman, he got another first round knockoff of Termurov, the Uzbekistani native.
- 4:56SPEAKER_02: Um, late in the first round, uh, about 4:30 into the first round.
- 5:02SPEAKER_02: Kavanaugh got a very, very clean um couple punches landed and uppercut, and then followed it up with another clean shot to Timorov.
- 5:13SPEAKER_02: Um, Kavanaugh himself is on a little bit of a winning streak now and a little bit of a fight um high.
- 5:22SPEAKER_02: He lost his last fight before this back in July to Brandon Roy Vall, but previously before that, he had defeated Brandon Moreno, um dos Santos before that.
- 5:31SPEAKER_02: So uh he's been getting some very, very quality victories.
- 5:36SPEAKER_02: Uh, and this is much like that.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: A big win for uh Kavanaugh there in Abu Dhabi.
- 5:44SPEAKER_02: So now to our two main event fights, our co-main event and our main event.
- 5:50SPEAKER_02: So we had two title fights.
- 5:52SPEAKER_02: First, I'll get to the bantamweight fight between Pjor Jan and Mirab Davishwili.
- 5:57SPEAKER_02: Um, two of the best bantamweights that have ever existed in the UFC that have ever participated.
- 6:03SPEAKER_02: Um Pure Jan, who is maybe the most decorated Bantamweight ever, uh, especially if you account for the fact that he had that title won initially against Algermain Sterling.
- 6:15SPEAKER_02: That disqualification really set him back several years when you ultimately ultimately look at what took place after that, with Algernon getting hurt, Pjuryan getting hurt, him losing um a few fights after that.
- 6:28SPEAKER_02: So, really, really awesome to see Pjor Jan not only have the Bantamweight title, but in this instance being able to defend it against a elite Hall of Fame level fighter like Marab Duavishwhili.
- 6:40SPEAKER_02: Um, Purjan, really strategic in this fight.
- 6:44SPEAKER_02: He allowed Marab to kind of gas himself out early on in this fight.
- 6:49SPEAKER_02: Um, he allowed Marab to expend a lot of energy in those first two rounds, which I believe every judge scored rounds one and two to Marab.
- 6:58SPEAKER_02: But Purjan knows these are championship fights and they are won in the championship rounds.
- 7:03SPEAKER_02: And that's really when Jan opened up the gas tank and started going after Marab.
- 7:09SPEAKER_02: He dominated the last two rounds, especially in round number four, when he really started to go to town on Marab.
- 7:16SPEAKER_02: Um, ultimately a clean sweep 48-47, all three judges in unanimous agreement on that scorecard three to two.
- 7:25SPEAKER_02: Um, again, impressive fight from Pior Jan, uh, impressive showing, and still Bantamweight champion for Pior Jan, the Russian native.
- 7:36SPEAKER_02: And in our main event, uh, the previously undefeated 20-0 in his MMA career, Mavsar Ivalov.
- 7:43SPEAKER_02: Uh, he fought maybe the greatest featherweight UFC fighter of all time, Alexander the Great Volkonovsky.
- 7:51SPEAKER_02: He was our gold star of the weekend on the podcast yesterday, and for good reason, uh, he was sub he was taken down to the ground in the second round and immediately transitioned into a defense of that takedown, switching the grapple and getting top control and a dominant ground striking position, and then just started unleashing the ground and pound on Ivalov.
- 8:18SPEAKER_02: And that was all she wrote.
- 8:20SPEAKER_02: That was all it took.
- 8:21SPEAKER_02: And I Volkanovsky got a ground and pound stoppage with about five seconds left in the second round of a five-round title fight.
- 8:30SPEAKER_02: So, what does this mean for Volkanovsky?
- 8:32SPEAKER_02: I I think it just continues to show he is one of the most decorated and respected champions, one of the most decorated and respected fighters ever in the history of the UFC.
- 8:42SPEAKER_02: Uh, just a crew, true, true gentleman.
- 8:46SPEAKER_02: Um, a true, you know, he's the true example of what UFC fighting should be.
- 8:52SPEAKER_02: Um, he's you know, only fought in title fights dating back to 2019.
- 8:59SPEAKER_02: If you look at his run, um, two against Holloway, Brian Ortega, uh, another fight against Holloway, Yair Rodriguez, Chansung Jun, um, Ilya Taporia and Islam Mikachev were his two losses in that in that mix.
- 9:15SPEAKER_02: Um, and then the back-to-back fights against Diego Lopez uh both last year and this year in January, and then obviously this knockout of Mavzar Ivalov.
- 9:25SPEAKER_02: Um, just uh not enough good things you can say about Alexander the Great Volkanovsky.
- 9:31SPEAKER_02: We'll be curious to see what you know where we go after this.
- 9:35SPEAKER_02: I I don't really think Holloway is in the cards, but I don't think any true UFC fan would be upset to see Max Holloway and Alexander Volkanovsky sparred up again in the octagon.
- 9:46SPEAKER_02: Um, but really on uh on the Bantamweight side, I I I think a realistic uh opponent for Pure Yan, I know he called out Song Yu Dong, um, who is certainly a worthy adversary of Pure Yan, but where I think a lot of that attention should and deserves to go to is Sugarshawn O'Malley.
- 10:10SPEAKER_02: Um I know Sean has not had the names, but I think that that type of fight presents an interesting stylistic matchup.
- 10:18SPEAKER_02: The length and the quickness of Sugarshawn O'Malley against the striking and the boxing and the just utter strength that Pioriana exhibits could be an absolutely banger of a fight.
- 10:30SPEAKER_02: But 333 was amazing, it was an awesome fight card.
- 10:35SPEAKER_02: Um, in terms of what we have ahead of us, we have a UFC fight night on Halloween between Renato Moikano and Tom Nolan, um, Randy Rudeboy Brown and Jacoby Smith, Oday Osborne, some good fighters on this card on Saturday, October 31st.
- 10:52SPEAKER_02: And then after that, our next big fight is November 14th, Cyril Gunn versus Josh Hokett for Cyril Gunn's heavyweight title.
- 11:02SPEAKER_02: Um, that will be an incredible fight and the co-main event on that card, Amanda Nunes and Kayla Harrison.
- 11:08SPEAKER_02: So a lot to break down there.
- 11:10SPEAKER_02: As always, on the Tailgate Cam podcast, we talk all sports all year long, so we will keep everybody up to date on what is going on in the UFC and what all of the Tailgates reactions to what's going on in the UFC.
- 11:23SPEAKER_02: So now let's talk a little bit of baseball.
- 11:26SPEAKER_02: Um, I obviously left off last week on our combo college football NFL episode by leading into um what to be expected heading into the World Series between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Milwaukee Brewers, and things got out of hand quick.
- 11:43SPEAKER_02: So in game one Friday night, the Milwaukee Brewers jumped out to a very, very quick two to nothing lead in the first inning.
- 11:50SPEAKER_02: Trist uh Christian Yelich got a RBI triple in the first inning driving in Jackson Churio.
- 11:56SPEAKER_02: Um, William Contreras singled in Yellich right after that to make it two to nothing just in the first inning.
- 12:03SPEAKER_02: The Rays would score to make it two to one in the fourth, before ultimately Jackson Churio would drive in another RBI in the seventh inning, and that was all the Brewers needed.
- 12:15SPEAKER_02: The story of this series so far has just continued to be the excellent, excellent, excellent Milwaukee bullpen.
- 12:23SPEAKER_02: In game one, they pitched uh four total innings and only allowed one earned run.
- 12:29SPEAKER_02: That was basically an insurance run that did not end up mattering.
- 12:33SPEAKER_02: Um, game two, Saturday, um, again in Milwaukee.
- 12:38SPEAKER_02: We got Drew Rasmussen on the bump for the Rays, and on the the Brewer side, we got Logan Henderson.
- 12:44SPEAKER_02: The Rays jumped out to an immediate four to nothing lead.
- 12:48SPEAKER_02: Liam Hicks hit a two-run home run in the first inning of game two on Saturday.
- 12:53SPEAKER_02: They were up four to nothing in the top of the first, and that was the end of the scoring for the Rays as Logan Henderson really shut the Rays down for the next two innings after that.
- 13:04SPEAKER_02: And then again, the story of the day six straight innings of shutout bullpen relief for the Milwaukee Brewers.
- 13:12SPEAKER_02: Jojo Romero, Dustin May, D.L.
- 13:14SPEAKER_02: Hall, Abner Uribe, and Aaron Ashby slamming the door shut, allowing the Brewers to come back slowly.
- 13:22SPEAKER_02: The Brewers were able to actually score two runs right back in the first inning to make it four to two before uh Spencer Pratt or uh Cooper Pratt, Spencer Pratt, Cooper Pratt uh scored in the fourth, and Sal Freelick tied the game in the sixth, and Pratt ultimately drove in the winning RBI in the seventh inning for Milwaukee to go up two games to nothing by a score of five to four on Saturday.
- 13:47SPEAKER_02: And then game three, Monday night in Tampa Bay, we saw the Brewers absolutely unload on the Tampa Bay Rays.
- 13:58SPEAKER_02: Uh Milwaukee started Robert Gasser in this game, who pitched six shutout innings on just 75 pitches.
- 14:04SPEAKER_02: Meanwhile, on the race side, ALCS MVP Freddie Peralta had a nightmare start.
- 14:11SPEAKER_02: He pitched four and two-thirds innings and allowed five earned runs.
- 14:15SPEAKER_02: Uh, he only was able to get four strikeouts.
- 14:18SPEAKER_02: He walked three batters, gave up seven hits as well.
- 14:22SPEAKER_02: And then Cam Boozer came in and without recording an out, gave up four hits and four more earned runs.
- 14:29SPEAKER_02: And the Brewers jumped out to a 10 to nothing lead.
- 14:33SPEAKER_02: I think so far, when you look at the first three games of this series, that the two guys that stand out as possible World Series MVP candidates, one William Contreras, the other, Christian Yelich.
- 14:45SPEAKER_02: He has been a table setter, an absolute reliable option for the Milwaukee Brewers, but just an absolutely outstanding performance on Monday to really put the Rays in a pinch here, heading into game four.
- 15:00SPEAKER_02: Game four took place Tuesday night.
- 15:02SPEAKER_02: Uh, and this was much more of a back and forth affair.
- 15:06SPEAKER_02: The Rays opened the scoring before Pratt tied the game in the fourth inning.
- 15:10SPEAKER_02: The Rays were able to jump back ahead before the Brewers took the lead.
- 15:14SPEAKER_02: Ultimately, this game would be tied two to two and head into extra innings where we wouldn't get no runs in the 10th, no runs in the 11th until the 12th inning when Cooper Pratt, that man again, hit a single or a solo shot home run in the top of the 12th to take the lead three to two.
- 15:33SPEAKER_02: But ultimately, the Rays would not be swept, they would not go away that quietly.
- 15:39SPEAKER_02: They scored two runs in the bottom of the 12th to extend their life for another day.
- 15:47SPEAKER_02: So game five of the World Series will take place on Wednesday, uh October 28th, again, tonight after the recording.
- 15:55SPEAKER_02: If the Rays are able to win that game, we will see game six back in Milwaukee as well as game seven, if necessary, in Milwaukee, um, either Friday night and Saturday night.
- 16:07SPEAKER_02: So a lot still left on the line here.
- 16:10SPEAKER_02: Milwaukee can easily slam the door shut in any one of the next three games.
- 16:15SPEAKER_02: But the Rays are a pesky bunch, a team that knows how to put the ball in play.
- 16:19SPEAKER_02: So remainder to be seen if they're able to squash the Rays' hopes or if the Rays are able to stay alive here.
- 16:27SPEAKER_02: So next thing up, we have a new guest joining us in the Tailgate Cam podcast.
- 16:33SPEAKER_02: Uh, we will be breaking down all of the biggest games in the NFL from week seven, previewing all the games for the NFL week eight.
- 16:41SPEAKER_02: So make sure you stick around.
- 16:53SPEAKER_02: The Tailgate Cam Podcast is thrilled to welcome in a new guest, my boy DK.
- 17:00SPEAKER_02: What is up, DK?
- 17:01SPEAKER_02: How you doing, man?
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: Oh, I can't complain, man.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: Another day in paradise, as they say.
- 17:06SPEAKER_02: So this is your first time in the Tailgate.
- 17:08SPEAKER_02: So for those that don't know you, go ahead and introduce yourself, maybe like your favorite sport, like a fun hobby you have, or fun fact about you, or maybe how we met, maybe not how we met, actually.
- 17:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, you you sent me the itinerary, and I was like, you know, I can answer most of these questions, but I don't know if we want how we met to be put on on record.
- 17:29SPEAKER_02: Maybe not in recorded audio.
- 17:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:32SPEAKER_00: Uh DK Wilson, all conference defensive end, um, valedictorian of the 2012 graduating class.
- 17:41SPEAKER_00: Um, one of the top 365 smartest kids in Missouri that were born in 1993.
- 17:47SPEAKER_00: You know, just your average guy, you know, football enthusiast, diehard Chiefs fan.
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: Um that's about it, man.
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: Football.
- 17:57SPEAKER_00: I don't know if 420 is friendly in the states you're in, wherever you're listening from.
- 18:01SPEAKER_00: Uh football, weed, and family.
- 18:04SPEAKER_02: Nice.
- 18:05SPEAKER_02: Uh well, DK and I have known each other for a long time, well over a decade.
- 18:09SPEAKER_02: So excited to have DK in the tailgate.
- 18:12SPEAKER_02: So, first things first, we gotta do a quick recap of the biggest gains from week seven.
- 18:17SPEAKER_02: Um, so first we got to start with that Thursday night game.
- 18:20SPEAKER_02: Bears Patriots.
- 18:22SPEAKER_02: That was a pretty good game, really fun.
- 18:24SPEAKER_02: The first half was really all Bears.
- 18:26SPEAKER_02: The Patriots kind of worked their way back in.
- 18:28SPEAKER_02: Do you feel like the Bears are like legitimately a Super Bowl contender or they're just like a good team?
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: Um, well, for starters, as far as whoops, let me turn it off.
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: For starters, as far as uh Thursday night games have gone this year, um, that was a pretty good one as far as just points scored and everything along those lines.
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: We hit the over, which I think is one of the first times that that's happened this year.
- 18:53SPEAKER_00: Um so in general, it was just good to see some good football played throughout the week.
- 18:57SPEAKER_00: Um as far as the Bears are concerned, I don't think they're a Super Bowl contender if only because only two teams get that spot.
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: Can they make a deep run into the playoffs?
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 19:09SPEAKER_00: Can they stay healthy to make that run?
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: Only time will tell.
- 19:13SPEAKER_00: Because the Bears with the healthy defense, with the Cole Comet back, when Caleb is on the field the entire time, they're a different team than when they're not.
- 19:22SPEAKER_00: I mean, they're missing safeties, half of their defense is really just banged up with injuries right now.
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: Um, and I'm one of those old school guys that thinks defense wins championships.
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: So I think it'll be hard for them to push too far if they can't keep everybody healthy.
- 19:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:36SPEAKER_02: And then kind of on the flip side, I mean, we've we've kind of been doing a roller coaster with Drake May this year.
- 19:41SPEAKER_02: We've had some really good games, some really not so good games.
- 19:45SPEAKER_02: This was kind of like in between, where the first half was not great, the second half was pretty good.
- 19:51SPEAKER_02: What do you make of that?
- 19:53SPEAKER_02: Like, is is Drake May like a guy that you're nervous about?
- 19:56SPEAKER_02: Do you feel okay about him?
- 19:57SPEAKER_02: It's just kind of the ups and downs of a normal season.
- 20:00SPEAKER_02: Like, where are you at with your thoughts on Drake May?
- 20:03SPEAKER_00: I think he's young.
- 20:04SPEAKER_00: I mean, I think half the problem when you're looking at Drake May and the New England Patriots, it's hard not to picture that position with Tom Brady not in it.
- 20:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: So he's no Tom Brady, but no one out there is.
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: If you look at the actual numbers though, Drake May is on pace right now to throw 31 touchdowns.
- 20:23SPEAKER_00: That's exactly the same that he threw last year.
- 20:25SPEAKER_00: So, in order for you to say he's fallen off this year, you have to say his last year's last year's season was shit, you know?
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:32SPEAKER_00: Um, the only real difference this year I see with Drake May is he's getting a little looser with the ball.
- 20:37SPEAKER_00: Uh, I think he's on pace to throw over 20 interceptions this year, which that's just not something you can do, especially when these teams nowadays are really putting a lot of focus on their secondary in defense.
- 20:49SPEAKER_00: Because as you know, it's officially a passing league now.
- 20:51SPEAKER_00: So I think it's too early to call it quits on him, but I do think he does he deserves a little bit of grace, especially given his age and how much he has matured since he entered the league.
- 21:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, I I I tend to agree with you.
- 21:03SPEAKER_02: You know, I I think he's really only in the middle of his third season in the NFL.
- 21:09SPEAKER_02: And last year he was an MVP runner-up.
- 21:12SPEAKER_02: Um, it just it does put a little bit of hesitation in my mind, like the way it's looked bad.
- 21:19SPEAKER_02: Like the the kinds of mistakes that he's made.
- 21:22SPEAKER_02: It's not just mistakes that you see like other elite quarterbacks make.
- 21:26SPEAKER_02: Like some of them are just like, who like rookies do that, you know?
- 21:29SPEAKER_02: And yeah, that does tend to make me a little bit more nervous than if it was just like a normal fumble, a great play by the defensive player.
- 21:37SPEAKER_02: So, you know, I I'd like to see a little bit more consistency, but the second half, like I said, the second half that he had in that game was was pretty good and it got them back in the game.
- 21:46SPEAKER_02: Um, but then back on the Bear side, I they have obviously a lot of weapons.
- 21:50SPEAKER_02: Roma Dunze, our guy Luther Burden from Mizzou, uh Colston Loveland, DeAndre Swift, who from a fantasy or like a prop betting perspective.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: Is there somebody on the Bears that you tend to lean towards or trust more over any of the others?
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: If we're talking just pure performance and what it takes, who has to play well for the Bears to win the game, I'm going to go with Luther Burton.
- 22:16SPEAKER_00: Any game he's had 100 yards and a touchdown, they've won, if not come very close to winning.
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: As far as prop betting, I think I have to go a little more logical on that side and go with Lovelin because he's consistent.
- 22:29SPEAKER_00: Like there's no there's no doubting it whether you do his receptions, whether you do his yardage.
- 22:33SPEAKER_00: And I feel like Vegas always underplays him, if only because they have so many big receivers on the outside.
- 22:39SPEAKER_00: Um, but I mean he's treated me well this year, to say the least.
- 22:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:44SPEAKER_02: And other really other than week one, when he had that crazy like zero catch game when they scored all those points, he's been good in every game, you know.
- 22:52SPEAKER_02: And um, he's such a reliable, like in the red zone target, you know, or like short yardage conversions for them.
- 23:00SPEAKER_02: Uh it just really it opens up like a different level of the field for the Bears, where Rome and Luther are very like outside vertical receivers, not really like over the middle.
- 23:10SPEAKER_02: And Loveland kind of eats in that area of the field.
- 23:14SPEAKER_02: Um, but uh like you said, it was a very, very entertaining Thursday night game, which we don't always get.
- 23:20SPEAKER_02: I'm a little hopeful for the Thursday night game this week.
- 23:23SPEAKER_02: I think I'm always hopeful.
- 23:24SPEAKER_02: I think every you know, every game I want every game that I watch to be good.
- 23:28SPEAKER_02: So um moving on to the Giants and the Texans.
- 23:32SPEAKER_02: This wasn't initially gonna be on my rundown, but the way that this game played out, and honestly, the way that the Giants continue to sneak out these wins, I feel like it's worth putting them in this conversation right now.
- 23:45SPEAKER_02: So the Giants went on the road and defeated the Texans 27 to 21.
- 23:49SPEAKER_02: This was JJ McCarthy's first start.
- 23:52SPEAKER_02: He obviously finished the week before against the Saints.
- 23:55SPEAKER_02: His first start start with the Giants, and it went about as well as you could expect.
- 24:00SPEAKER_02: He was 20 of 28, and the big thing for him, no turnovers.
- 24:05SPEAKER_02: What were your thoughts about JJ McCarthy, or what are your, I guess just in general thoughts about the Giants so far with four wins so far on the season?
- 24:14SPEAKER_00: I like the Giants as a whole.
- 24:16SPEAKER_00: I think they have the pieces to put it all together.
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: Um, specifically on JJ McCarthy, though, a broken clock is right twice a day.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 24:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:26SPEAKER_00: I'm not I'm not bought in on it.
- 24:28SPEAKER_00: I I just don't think he's good.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: I didn't see what people saw in him last year.
- 24:32SPEAKER_00: Um, there's a reason he got drafted so early and then immediately got traded.
- 24:37SPEAKER_00: You know, that but that doesn't happen if you're gonna be that guy.
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:41SPEAKER_00: Um, and I just think the the Giants are in a place where they needed him to step up, and by all means he did that.
- 24:48SPEAKER_00: But as soon as Dark is back, this we won't even be having this conversation.
- 24:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 24:55SPEAKER_02: I think the thing that is working well for him right now is that he does have a little bit more freedom to kind of run around in the pocket and outside of the pocket, which he's not like an overwhelming athlete, but he's not you know a statue back there either.
- 25:11SPEAKER_02: And he didn't, you know, Kevin O'Connell's system in Minnesota is not geared towards the quarterback running around.
- 25:17SPEAKER_02: So the fact that he does have a little bit more of that freedom certainly has lended him to playing pretty well in the last week and a half.
- 25:25SPEAKER_02: So um also on the Giants side, Cam Scattaboo, he got quote unquote benched two weeks ago and then comes back last week and has 17 carries for 124 yards and the game winning touchdown in overtime, uh, or to take the lead before overtime, excuse me.
- 25:45SPEAKER_02: Um, is that what we should expect from Cam Scattaboo, or is that kind of an outlier that you can't rely on?
- 25:54SPEAKER_00: Um, well, to double back on JJ real quick, I think it's a lot easier to as a backup quarterback to play well because it's not your team, you know?
- 26:04SPEAKER_00: Like win or lose, you're there to fill in the role.
- 26:07SPEAKER_00: You're not necessarily there to make the rest of the team look great.
- 26:10SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 26:10SPEAKER_00: Um, but moving on to Scattabu, I like him.
- 26:13SPEAKER_00: I think he is the closest thing we have nowadays to a true power running back.
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: Um, he doesn't avoid contact.
- 26:20SPEAKER_00: If you get it, if he gets it, you know he's going downhill.
- 26:23SPEAKER_00: He's not avoiding you no matter who you are on the other side of the ball.
- 26:26SPEAKER_00: Um, that being said, that uh unnecessary roughness last week.
- 26:32SPEAKER_00: When has a running back ever gotten unnecessary roughness for laying the truck stick?
- 26:38SPEAKER_00: Like, you know what I mean?
- 26:39SPEAKER_00: How do you how do you get out on the offense in the hole?
- 26:42SPEAKER_00: So that was crazy.
- 26:44SPEAKER_00: Um, but I think his biggest issue with running backs of his style is gonna be injury.
- 26:50SPEAKER_00: Um, obviously, CT is a big risk.
- 26:53SPEAKER_00: The guy takes hits to the heads off the field, even right.
- 26:59SPEAKER_00: Uh, but if he can stay healthy and if they can keep a healthy offensive line, maybe work in a little more play action, um, get the beat keep getting the deep ball out, I think it'll be great.
- 27:09SPEAKER_00: I think it'll be fine.
- 27:10SPEAKER_00: I think maybe they need to extend his running game to outside of the tackles a little bit more, if only to give him a little more room to avoid contact.
- 27:17SPEAKER_00: Um, because you know he's not shying away from it.
- 27:20SPEAKER_00: So I think part of it is on the team to protect him because it seems like he's not really going to protect himself in that aspect.
- 27:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, that's fair.
- 27:28SPEAKER_02: Um, and then kind of on the Texan side, obviously they're now two and five.
- 27:32SPEAKER_02: They were a lot of people's Super Bowl pick on the AFC side heading into this season.
- 27:37SPEAKER_02: The Tailgate Cam podcast can't be happier about it.
- 27:40SPEAKER_02: We crazy.
- 27:41SPEAKER_02: Here at the Tailgate Cam, we are thrilled about what's going on in Houston.
- 27:45SPEAKER_02: Um, but specifically, the thing that is the most shocking to me is they were the second best team in points allowed last year.
- 27:53SPEAKER_02: They are tied for 19th right now in points allowed.
- 27:57SPEAKER_02: Their pass defense is the fifth worst in the NFL, which to me that directly corresponds to their pass rush, which they should on paper have the two best, you know, tandem pass rushers in the NFL between Danil Hunter and Will Anderson Jr.
- 28:14SPEAKER_02: And their defense has been bad.
- 28:16SPEAKER_02: Is that just how the defense is gonna be this year?
- 28:20SPEAKER_02: Like, is D'Amico maybe lost his touch a little bit, or what what do you make of their defense giving up fantasy points to everybody they play and real points?
- 28:30SPEAKER_00: Dude, I I don't really know what to make of it.
- 28:32SPEAKER_00: Um, it's funny you bring up the difference between their secondary and their uh pass rush.
- 28:38SPEAKER_00: Believe it or not, on paper, their pass rush is still one of the best in the league this year.
- 28:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they still have one of the highest um sack percentages and all that good stuff.
- 28:47SPEAKER_00: I think where they're failing right now is their secondary.
- 28:50SPEAKER_00: They're getting burned on every level of the secondary.
- 28:53SPEAKER_00: Um, I was watching a couple analysts this week, and I what what a what seems to be the consensus is their secondary scheme seems to be too simple.
- 29:03SPEAKER_00: Like it's like they're sleeping on the field.
- 29:05SPEAKER_00: Everyone's running all these intricate new routes and trying to trying to switch it up, you know, for an ever-changing game.
- 29:11SPEAKER_00: And their secondary scheme just hasn't changed to match the evolving passing game of today.
- 29:15SPEAKER_00: Um, I think it's fixable because they have pretty much the same players as last year.
- 29:20SPEAKER_00: The question is, do they fix it in time for it to even matter?
- 29:24SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 29:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, they they're no stranger to kind of putting themselves in a hole each of the last two years.
- 29:31SPEAKER_02: They lost four of their first six games both of the two years, and both years they made the playoffs.
- 29:36SPEAKER_02: Two years ago, they even won the division after that kind of a start.
- 29:39SPEAKER_02: So they're certainly not dead, but they're close.
- 29:44SPEAKER_02: They there's a grave that's dug.
- 29:46SPEAKER_02: I mean, if you play with fire long enough, you get burned.
- 29:49SPEAKER_02: I mean, at a certain point, like they you just can't have more losses than the team that's in first place in the division.
- 29:55SPEAKER_02: Like, you can't, you know what I mean?
- 29:56SPEAKER_02: You can't just keep losing games, especially the fact that they're 0-3 at home.
- 30:00SPEAKER_02: Not a great recipe for success there for the Texans.
- 30:04SPEAKER_00: Um AFC is gonna pick it up um towards the end of the season.
- 30:08SPEAKER_00: We've always historically just gotten better and it's gotten real tight towards the end.
- 30:12SPEAKER_00: So it's gonna be they're gonna get to a point where it's too late to even make a run for it.
- 30:17SPEAKER_02: I am kind of of I'm glad you brought that up.
- 30:19SPEAKER_02: I'm kind of of the belief there are are realistically right now nine teams in the AFC that can make the playoffs, and we know who all nine of those teams are.
- 30:29SPEAKER_02: That's the Chiefs, the Bills, the Browns, the Jags, the Broncos, the Steelers, the Bengals, the Patriots, and the Ravens.
- 30:36SPEAKER_02: And some of that is gonna work out just by because somebody has to win the AFC North, which we'll talk about here in a second.
- 30:43SPEAKER_02: So some of that will kind of work itself out.
- 30:45SPEAKER_02: So I think we kind of already know who the playoff teams are, you know, like unless one of these, you know, I just don't see it from a lot of these teams, like the Dolphins, the Raiders, the Jets.
- 30:56SPEAKER_02: I don't think any of these teams are gonna have an extremely good winning record for the last, you know, second half of the season uh to really catch pace with some of these teams that I think are way better than them, you know.
- 31:09SPEAKER_02: Um I just think that puts the Texans in a really, really tough spot, and I don't know that they have what it takes to pull themselves out of that, you know.
- 31:18SPEAKER_00: Well, you seem so sad about it.
- 31:20SPEAKER_02: You know, we we are really losing sleep thinking about it day and night.
- 31:25SPEAKER_02: It's it's really eating me up.
- 31:26SPEAKER_02: I don't I'll revisit this at the end of the podcast to see if I feel better about it.
- 31:31SPEAKER_02: Um moving to the NFC North, a big NFC North showdown last week between the Lions and the Packers.
- 31:39SPEAKER_02: The Lions made kind of a I mean, Dan Campbell is known for going for it on fourth down, but that fourth down conversion at the end of that game, the game was tied 17 to 17, and uh the Lions were on their own 24-yard line with about three minutes left.
- 31:56SPEAKER_02: Ridiculous for the fourth down and got stuffed.
- 31:59SPEAKER_02: Thankfully, Green Bay missed the field goal, and the Lions got the ball back and went down the field and scored.
- 32:05SPEAKER_02: But what did you make of that?
- 32:06SPEAKER_02: Like, there's there's aggression and then there's that.
- 32:09SPEAKER_02: What was your thought on the fact that they went for that on their own 24?
- 32:14SPEAKER_00: I think what you meant to say is there's aggression and then there's Dan Campbell.
- 32:20SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 32:21SPEAKER_00: It's like uh the Lions are one of those teams that are too good to continue losing in the way that they do.
- 32:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and as much as everyone loves Dan Campbell as a personality and for his first through third quarter play calling, he I feel like we can point to numerous games in the last couple years where there are specific decisions that he made that cost them the game.
- 32:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 32:46SPEAKER_00: I mean, you've got some of the best ri players in the game on your receiving side, your deep your quarterback is one of the best quarterbacks in the league, you know.
- 32:55SPEAKER_00: So there's no real reason for you to keep losing games in the way that you're losing them.
- 33:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 33:00SPEAKER_00: Um, that being said, if when it works, he's a superhero, but when it doesn't, he's the bad guy.
- 33:07SPEAKER_00: Unfortunately for him, it seems to not be working more often than it is recently.
- 33:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 33:13SPEAKER_02: And I mean, it cost them the biggest game that Dan Campbell's coached in since he's been with the Lions was the NFC Championship game against the 49ers.
- 33:22SPEAKER_02: And this is exactly what happened.
- 33:24SPEAKER_02: They were in that game, they had the lead um for you know 75% of that game and kept getting stuffed on fourth down, and it cost them a trip to the Super Bowl and a game against the Chiefs.
- 33:36SPEAKER_02: So, you know, I mean they won the game.
- 33:41SPEAKER_00: That's got to build some type of resentment in that in that player base, you know?
- 33:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:45SPEAKER_00: Um, so at some point in time, he's he's got to realistically think, hey, my job and livelihood could likely be on the line with some of these decisions.
- 33:53SPEAKER_02: I just think like it also, I know their defense has been pretty bad, and I know their defensive coordinator has gotten a lot of grief.
- 34:01SPEAKER_02: I think it also just sends a really bad message to your defense that we trust you guys so little that we cannot punt this ball away with three and a half or what you know, three plus minutes left, whatever there was left on the clock.
- 34:15SPEAKER_02: Uh that's how that's how low he thinks of their defense.
- 34:18SPEAKER_02: They think they have a better chance going for it on the 24 than trusting their defense, which I mean they won the game, so it's like it's a little hard to give them too much grief for it, but they if Green Bay makes the field goal, they don't win that game.
- 34:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they won the game on a botch kick, which by the way, the amount of botch kicks we've had this year in the NFL for the for what I consider to be one of the easiest jobs on the field is ridiculous.
- 34:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 34:44SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, I I think it a lot of it comes down to Campbell's decision making, and I think he has the ability to not make those decisions.
- 34:51SPEAKER_00: I just think sometimes he plays the game as if it's Madden.
- 34:54SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 34:54SPEAKER_00: Like this is all or nothing.
- 34:56SPEAKER_00: This is my last shot to get it done.
- 34:58SPEAKER_00: Well, that's not the case.
- 34:59SPEAKER_00: Sometimes you have to fight for the next down or fight for the next play.
- 35:03SPEAKER_00: And his team is good enough to where if they punt that ball and get a defensive stop, because the defense has been getting stops all game, um, Jared Goff can score in two minutes.
- 35:13SPEAKER_00: Like, that's not a question.
- 35:14SPEAKER_00: He's got to get 30 yards, at least get you in field goal range.
- 35:16SPEAKER_00: That can be done.
- 35:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 35:18SPEAKER_02: And kind of picking up right where you left off, between these two quarterbacks, I keep I have them very closely ranked in my own quarterback rankings between Jordan Love and Jared Goff.
- 35:30SPEAKER_02: Which of these two quarterbacks do you feel like you would rather have on your team if you had to pick between the two?
- 35:38SPEAKER_00: Um, if we're talking fantasy, I'm gonna take Goff, if only because he's gonna get you a rushing touchdown.
- 35:44SPEAKER_00: You know he's gonna deliver 250 to 300 passing yards game.
- 35:48SPEAKER_00: Um, he's very rare on interceptions, so he's a solid, he's a solid fantasy pick all around.
- 35:53SPEAKER_00: Um, Jordan Love, he's a little more up and down sometimes when it comes to fantasy.
- 35:58SPEAKER_00: As far as if I'm building an actual team, though, I'm probably gonna take Love because I I really don't imagine Goff has another five, six years left in him.
- 36:06SPEAKER_00: Um, and Love, I feel like the amount of growth we've seen since he came into the league and the amount of growth that he still potentially has in him, he's still you're still able to mold him into the system quarterback that you want him to be.
- 36:19SPEAKER_00: Whereas Goff might be stuck in a lot of his ways.
- 36:21SPEAKER_00: Um, and that's just a lot harder to break in older quarterbacks.
- 36:24SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 36:25SPEAKER_02: Um, let's move on to a team that you hold very near and dear to your heart.
- 36:30SPEAKER_02: They were five and oh heading into Sunday night football last week, and then the Seahawks did what the Seahawks do, and they found a way to win and won mostly on the defensive side.
- 36:41SPEAKER_02: They are four and three right now.
- 36:43SPEAKER_02: Do you feel like the Seahawks have a legitimate threat to repeat as Super Bowl champions?
- 36:50SPEAKER_00: So I'm biased.
- 36:52SPEAKER_00: Let me just start this by saying that um the fact that we're having this conversation about the Seahawks going to the Super Bowl after beating the Chiefs probably makes me even more biased.
- 37:04SPEAKER_00: Um, with us being the last team to repeat.
- 37:07SPEAKER_00: Um, but no, I'm not I'm not bought in on them.
- 37:09SPEAKER_00: They've got a lot of problems up front with that offensive line.
- 37:12SPEAKER_00: Um, like you said, they beat us on the defensive end.
- 37:14SPEAKER_00: Who fucking knows what the Chiefs were doing on offense?
- 37:18SPEAKER_00: Even as a fan, I couldn't tell you.
- 37:20SPEAKER_00: We knew coming in it was gonna be a trap game.
- 37:23SPEAKER_00: We knew coming in they were gonna hold K9 as much as possible.
- 37:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yet we still played directly into their hands.
- 37:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um, and it's hard for me to even talk bad on them because we got Bellamy back now, and I love that guy.
- 37:37SPEAKER_00: Bellamy and Spag together, that's my Chiefs, and obviously Andy Reid, that's my Chiefs' dream roster.
- 37:44SPEAKER_00: Um so if it was another team, you'd hear a lot of shit.
- 37:49SPEAKER_00: But because it's my dear and loved Chiefs, I'm gonna say it's on, it's on to the next one, you know.
- 37:53SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 37:54SPEAKER_00: Um, the Seahawks got their win in.
- 37:56SPEAKER_00: To call it a good win would be false, I think.
- 38:00SPEAKER_00: I think it's better to call it a bad loss for the Chiefs than a good win for the Seahawks.
- 38:05SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 38:05SPEAKER_00: Um but other than that, I mean they do have a good team.
- 38:08SPEAKER_00: I do like the Seahawks players as a whole.
- 38:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um, I just don't think they have what it takes to put it together for another run, if only because they gave away their MVP to us, and yeah, their run game at this point in the year is pretty much non-existent.
- 38:21SPEAKER_02: So yeah, I think that's been the two biggest issues that they've had so far is Sam Darnold has not played as clean as he played last year, which that was.
- 38:32SPEAKER_02: I mean, if we're gonna be honest, and I'm not trying to like slam the guy, you know, after he won a Super Bowl, yeah, but that was an anomaly if you look at his entire seven-year career that he's had in the NFL.
- 38:45SPEAKER_02: He has never played a season that clean as he did last year.
- 38:49SPEAKER_02: It does help.
- 38:50SPEAKER_02: They obviously made a trade uh a couple days ago and got Quentin Nelson from the Colts.
- 38:55SPEAKER_02: That certainly helps sure up that offensive line, which has not been very good.
- 39:00SPEAKER_02: But you said it like their biggest problem this year is they have had zero running game.
- 39:05SPEAKER_02: And guess what?
- 39:06SPEAKER_02: They let the Super Bowl MVP go to Kansas City where he's leading the NFL in rushing yards.
- 39:11SPEAKER_02: So I mean, it's probably bad process there.
- 39:14SPEAKER_02: Um, any other thoughts like on the Chiefs side of things, like on their offense, uh maybe like specifically about like the receivers and how yeah, I mean, to me, like when the Chiefs don't have Rasheed Rice, I don't know like that.
- 39:27SPEAKER_02: I think he's an elite receiver, but when they don't have him on the field, it definitely slows their offense down.
- 39:35SPEAKER_02: I'm just curious like what your thoughts were about the Chiefs' offense in that game.
- 39:39SPEAKER_00: Um, well, the offense in that game was atrocious.
- 39:42SPEAKER_00: Like I said, I think we've played directly into the Seahawks' hands.
- 39:46SPEAKER_00: They obviously came in with the game plan, and we did nothing to throw them off of that.
- 39:50SPEAKER_00: Um, our offense as a whole, I mean, it's no secret, the Chiefs' wide receiving room has been spotty, probably going as far back as Dwayne Bowe.
- 40:00SPEAKER_00: So I'm talking 12 years or so, you know?
- 40:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:03SPEAKER_00: Um, but we always find a way.
- 40:05SPEAKER_00: I think one of the most things I like the most about the Chiefs is no matter who's in that receiving core, everyone's gonna touch the ball.
- 40:14SPEAKER_00: If you if you play your role in the Chiefs receiving core, you get your you get the job done.
- 40:19SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 40:20SPEAKER_00: Everyone gets their fair piece of the pie.
- 40:22SPEAKER_00: Um, as far as where we are currently with receivers, I think when Rashid Rice comes back, it's obviously gonna be lovely.
- 40:27SPEAKER_00: If only because the defense on the other teams expect us to have a main receiver, like most teams do.
- 40:34SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 40:34SPEAKER_00: Um, so it just takes more pressure off of worthy.
- 40:37SPEAKER_00: It'll allow Kelsey to get open down the field more, you know.
- 40:40SPEAKER_00: Uh maybe Noah Gray will get in there and finally get his feet wet because we're gonna lose Kelsey soon.
- 40:45SPEAKER_00: So eventually we're gonna have to start thinking about what that looks like going forward for the Chiefs as well.
- 40:50SPEAKER_00: Um, but right now I'm pretty confident in our offense, I would say.
- 40:53SPEAKER_00: Obviously, last night was a blemish, blemish on the record, but we were 5-0.
- 40:57SPEAKER_00: It's hard to go six, seven and oh in this league, no matter who you are.
- 41:01SPEAKER_00: Um, so I'll take it for what it is.
- 41:03SPEAKER_00: Hopefully, we go back to the drawing board and just take it kind of as a learning lesson.
- 41:06SPEAKER_00: We bumped our head.
- 41:07SPEAKER_00: Let's hope we get up and keep running with it.
- 41:10SPEAKER_02: Well, they have a big game this weekend, which we'll talk about here in just a second.
- 41:13SPEAKER_02: There's one more game I want to talk about from week seven, and that was the Bengals and the Ravens.
- 41:18SPEAKER_02: Obviously, still know Lamar.
- 41:20SPEAKER_02: He has missed the last three games for the Ravens.
- 41:23SPEAKER_02: Uh, but uh really to me, this was a this was a game that I feel like most years the Bengals lose this game, even without Lamar.
- 41:34SPEAKER_02: That yeah, the the Bengals go on the road to Baltimore and they find a way to lose this game.
- 41:39SPEAKER_02: And instead, Burrow dominated.
- 41:41SPEAKER_02: He had four touchdowns, he looked really, really good.
- 41:44SPEAKER_02: My question really is when you look at this division, the Browns are five and two, which we can call.
- 41:52SPEAKER_02: It's crazy, it is crazy.
- 41:53SPEAKER_02: The Steelers are also five and two.
- 41:56SPEAKER_02: Also crazy.
- 41:58SPEAKER_02: The Bengals are four and two, and the Ravens are four and three.
- 42:02SPEAKER_02: So what do you make of the AFC North?
- 42:05SPEAKER_00: I think it completely flips upside down by the end of the season.
- 42:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 42:09SPEAKER_02: You think two?
- 42:10SPEAKER_02: You think two teams get in?
- 42:12SPEAKER_00: I think uh I think it's possible.
- 42:15SPEAKER_00: You know what's crazy is uh I took the Browns preseason to make the playoffs.
- 42:20SPEAKER_00: And I just had a feeling about it.
- 42:22SPEAKER_00: Um so I I do think it's possible the Browns make the playoffs, if only because I feel like they're fighting for their life, you know, from a from a media standpoint to a just league, um just the way the league is viewing them as a team and an organization right now.
- 42:39SPEAKER_00: I feel like they have to make it into the playoffs, or it's gonna be like reckoning time, you know.
- 42:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 42:45SPEAKER_00: Um, I think it's almost impossible to keep the Ravens and a healthy Lamar Jackson out of the playoffs.
- 42:52SPEAKER_00: So if two make it, I think it'll be those two.
- 42:55SPEAKER_00: Um I think the Ravens make the playoffs no matter what.
- 42:58SPEAKER_00: I'm also a little biased on that because I I do think Lamar Jackson is one of the greatest quarterbacks we've seen in our time.
- 43:04SPEAKER_00: Um, I think a lot of his failures that people point to over the years are due to the system he's in.
- 43:11SPEAKER_00: Um, and and a lot of times, honestly, just the thought in his mind that he needs to just put it all on his back and maybe not trusting his teammates enough in some situations.
- 43:19SPEAKER_02: To me, like on the Lamar thing, I mean, I I definitely think he's amazing and he's had long, long stretches in his career.
- 43:27SPEAKER_02: He's been one of the two or three best in the NFL.
- 43:30SPEAKER_02: My thing with him, at least the last four or five years, has been these injuries.
- 43:34SPEAKER_02: Like, yeah, we saw it last year in the middle of the season, this year again, like early in the season.
- 43:40SPEAKER_02: I mean, he just there's always something that causes him to miss a few games here and there.
- 43:44SPEAKER_02: It's never like severe, but it just adds up.
- 43:48SPEAKER_02: Like you, you know, at this point, he's missed over a full season of games in his career, and that adds up, you know.
- 43:55SPEAKER_02: And I I that is to me like the most concerning thing because it's like Like how easy is it to just come in and out of the lineup and be effective nonstop?
- 44:06SPEAKER_02: Um but it is kind of funny to look at the NFL standings as a whole right now.
- 44:12SPEAKER_02: You know, the way that the reaction was, including myself, to that Miles Garrett trade.
- 44:17SPEAKER_02: And currently as we stand today, the Browns are five and two with two first round picks from the Rams, while the Rams are two and five.
- 44:26SPEAKER_00: It seems to have paid off.
- 44:27SPEAKER_00: And the fact that Miles Garrett and Aaron Donald have not been on the same field together at all in seven weeks.
- 44:35SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 44:35SPEAKER_00: You couldn't you couldn't have paid them to believe that was going to be the case.
- 44:39SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 44:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's exactly right.
- 44:42SPEAKER_00: And honestly, I I don't think I don't know if having them on the field together right now would fix their issues.
- 44:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 44:49SPEAKER_02: They're there, we'll talk about this when we get to the Rams game, but their issues right now to me are the fact that I mean, yes, their defense has been very good in terms of yards allowed, but they don't force any turnovers.
- 45:01SPEAKER_02: And the other thing is they also turn the ball over themselves quite a bit.
- 45:07SPEAKER_02: So when that's going on, you're constantly shooting yourselves in the foot, or teams are running long drives on you, even if they don't score, they're killing the clock.
- 45:16SPEAKER_02: And like what happened in the Cardinals game, you know, they basically bled the clock out and kicked six field goals and beat them.
- 45:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I thought one of their drives took over half a quarter to complete.
- 45:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's exactly that's exactly it.
- 45:30SPEAKER_02: Like, I just don't know how effective, and that's why like people always give you know defenses that force a lot of turnover, like that's not that's not sustainable.
- 45:40SPEAKER_02: Well, I don't know if it's sustainable, but it is the recipe to winning.
- 45:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's exactly right.
- 45:46SPEAKER_02: Um, any other thoughts about any other games that we did not talk about from week seven before we go to week eight?
- 45:52SPEAKER_00: Um, not really.
- 45:54SPEAKER_00: I think it I do think it's crazy that the Vikings are the last undefeated team in the league.
- 46:00SPEAKER_02: It's crazy.
- 46:01SPEAKER_00: Do we really have faith in Kyler Murray?
- 46:03SPEAKER_02: Absolutely not.
- 46:06SPEAKER_02: Absolutely not.
- 46:08SPEAKER_02: I think there is a audio recording of me somewhere on this podcast from August saying that if I had to pick one team total win-loss over under, it would have been the Vikings under eight and a half.
- 46:21SPEAKER_02: How's that looking for you, man?
- 46:22SPEAKER_02: Hey, it's not completely dead yet.
- 46:25SPEAKER_02: They could go two and two and twelve to end the season, or two and nine, I mean, to end the season.
- 46:31SPEAKER_02: It's possible.
- 46:32SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'm I'm with you there.
- 46:33SPEAKER_00: I'm not a Kyler Murray believer.
- 46:35SPEAKER_00: I think he's undersized, I don't think he fits many NFL schemes.
- 46:39SPEAKER_00: Uh but it it is good to see him actually kind of find somewhere that he fits in because at the end of the day, it is just football, and hopefully everyone succeeds as long as it doesn't mean beating the Chiefs, you know.
- 46:50SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 46:50SPEAKER_00: Um, just two more quick points from this week.
- 46:54SPEAKER_00: It was good to see Miami finally put in some effort, you know, get a win on the board.
- 46:58SPEAKER_00: Um, that was nice.
- 47:00SPEAKER_00: Do I think they're gonna be able to do anything for the rest of the season?
- 47:03SPEAKER_00: Not at all, but it was nice to see some life in that in that crowd and in those players.
- 47:08SPEAKER_00: Um then how do you feel about the NFL?
- 47:12SPEAKER_00: I know we just played our first Paris game this week.
- 47:14SPEAKER_00: How do you feel about the NFL going international?
- 47:17SPEAKER_00: Do you think it's a good thing?
- 47:18SPEAKER_00: Uh I I'm I'm kind of on the side of um keep it local, you know, as bad as that sounds.
- 47:26SPEAKER_00: Um, like realistically, these other countries they don't like football because it's a violent sport.
- 47:32SPEAKER_00: They have rugby.
- 47:33SPEAKER_00: Rugby is already one of the biggest sports in the world.
- 47:36SPEAKER_00: Um, and then also it messes up my viewing times.
- 47:39SPEAKER_02: I think I think from a player perspective, it's horrible.
- 47:45SPEAKER_02: I think it's horrible.
- 47:47SPEAKER_02: You know, the travel, it's our it's already the hardest sport physically on athletes to play.
- 47:53SPEAKER_02: I think it's it's horrible.
- 47:55SPEAKER_02: I used to really strongly believe that it was good for the game, it expanded viewership, it got more fans involved, but I've certainly come around and I'm much more close to like where your line of thinking is.
- 48:08SPEAKER_02: I just think it's unnecessary.
- 48:10SPEAKER_02: I think no matter what, like especially the London games, that country will never care about American football the way that they care about soccer.
- 48:18SPEAKER_02: And with that being the case, it's it's pointless.
- 48:22SPEAKER_02: Like, it really is like that.
- 48:24SPEAKER_02: I don't really think that they're expanding.
- 48:26SPEAKER_02: I mean, maybe maybe some extent, but I think people that liked American football in other countries were going to like American football no matter what.
- 48:35SPEAKER_00: And on this, and then look on the uh economic side of it, theoretically, if you're trying to draw in viewership from other countries, wouldn't you want to draw them in to a point to where they have to visit your country to watch the game?
- 48:46SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 48:47SPEAKER_00: So you kind of get that double dip, you know.
- 48:49SPEAKER_00: Um, not to mention it's a logistics nightmare.
- 48:52SPEAKER_00: You're traveling the full staff, you got trainers, you got medical, you got so much that has to you have to bring so you have to import grass on some of these fields.
- 49:00SPEAKER_02: And the like kind of kind of tying into your your point there about the the the logistics of it, it's also not putting the best product on display.
- 49:09SPEAKER_02: It like if you're really like if I'm trying to sell you something that you don't have a lot of interest in, and then I send the most half-baked version of that to you as my offering, like hey, DK, this is what you need to be interested in.
- 49:24SPEAKER_02: That's not gonna work.
- 49:26SPEAKER_02: Like, yeah, like the fact that these players are always on like weird body clocks when they're overseas or in South America or Australia, and now they're talking about playing a game in Japan, which is a crazier time difference.
- 49:39SPEAKER_02: Like, you're you're not putting the real product on display for them to see anyway.
- 49:44SPEAKER_02: Like nor are you putting these players' health first, yeah.
- 49:48SPEAKER_02: Right, right.
- 49:49SPEAKER_00: Like playing after with a 24-hour jet lag, playing 20, like, for instance, with the Rams in their last little trip, like that couldn't have been healthy for the body to immediately get off the plane after that many hours has been.
- 50:01SPEAKER_00: And then to get right back on the plane, get right back on the plane after playing the most grueling, physically demanding sport on the earth.
- 50:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I completely agree.
- 50:10SPEAKER_02: Like I like I said, I I feel like I used to be a proponent of it, and I think I think just like the more I've aged, the more I think about sports, just like a regular job that pays way more.
- 50:23SPEAKER_02: You know, like these are still just regular dudes that you know have things that they like, don't like about their job, have like other things going on in their lives when they show up to practice into games and doing this, like imagine if like your job had you do this during a regular work, just a random week.
- 50:41SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's like Aaron Donald didn't fly out with them, you know?
- 50:44SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 50:44SPEAKER_00: People have families at home, like yeah, anything can happen in another country.
- 50:49SPEAKER_00: So I feel like if you're gonna do it, I do like the idea of it.
- 50:52SPEAKER_00: I just think the execution is flawed.
- 50:54SPEAKER_00: Um, I think if you're gonna do it, it would need to be along the lines of like the Olympics, where you let every country just build their own American football program, and then the best of the best played.
- 51:06SPEAKER_00: Obviously, we dominate like with the NBA, but I think then you get a better, at least a grasp of if people even want this.
- 51:13SPEAKER_02: I mean, the NFL had, I don't know if you remember, they had NFL Europe for a while, and I don't I don't remember how many teams there were, like maybe six or eight teams, but they were spread around like five or six different European countries, and nobody cared.
- 51:29SPEAKER_02: Nobody cared, and nobody cared because they were like getting the bottom of the barrel of players, you know, like guys that weren't even sniffing practice squads were going to play in NFL Europe because nobody else wanted to do that.
- 51:43SPEAKER_02: And I think that that would probably be your most realistic path to getting more people interested in football if it could be done at a more sustainable level.
- 51:53SPEAKER_02: But I don't think the NFL has legitimate interest in creating minor league systems anyway, because they already have their official minor league system now because college kids are getting paid.
- 52:03SPEAKER_00: So yeah, and then the game is still grilling on the body anyway.
- 52:07SPEAKER_00: You don't really want somebody to go through two or three years in a D League just to come up to any NFL and get hurt immediately or age out, you know.
- 52:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 52:16SPEAKER_02: No, that's a great point.
- 52:18SPEAKER_02: Um, let's go move on to NFL week eight.
- 52:22SPEAKER_02: With there are some banger games on the schedule this weekend, some awesome, awesome matchups.
- 52:28SPEAKER_02: So we'll go through a few of these games in a little bit more detail, and then we will rapid fire the rest of the slate before me and DK give our tail the tailgate picks.
- 52:37SPEAKER_02: So let's start with uh a team we just talked about, the Baltimore Ravens.
- 52:43SPEAKER_02: We should see Lamar back.
- 52:45SPEAKER_02: That is the thought he practiced today.
- 52:48SPEAKER_02: Uh, they are traveling to the five and one Bills.
- 52:50SPEAKER_02: The Bills are three-point favorites.
- 52:52SPEAKER_02: The over-under is set at 54 and a half.
- 52:55SPEAKER_02: I'm curious.
- 52:56SPEAKER_02: You know, these are two of the best quarterbacks.
- 52:58SPEAKER_02: We've seen these two quarterbacks match up in MVP conversations time and time again.
- 53:04SPEAKER_02: When you see these two teams on the schedule, these two quarterbacks matched up with each other.
- 53:09SPEAKER_02: What thoughts go through your head?
- 53:12SPEAKER_00: I hope Josh Allen fails.
- 53:17SPEAKER_00: I'm biased, man.
- 53:18SPEAKER_00: I'm biased.
- 53:18SPEAKER_00: I I hold I hold those teams that give the Chiefs a rough run in real high disregard, you know.
- 53:24SPEAKER_00: Um, I've hated Peyton, I've hated Peyton Manning since he played for the Broncos.
- 53:29SPEAKER_00: I hated Tom Brady until he left the Patriots, you know?
- 53:32SPEAKER_00: Like, yeah.
- 53:33SPEAKER_00: So I'm I'm biased in this game.
- 53:34SPEAKER_00: It's hard to honestly pick as a fellow AFC fan.
- 53:38SPEAKER_00: It's hard to pick for this game because either way, whoever wins, they're gonna be the problem for even the Jags.
- 53:44SPEAKER_00: They're gonna be the problem for one of our teams down the line.
- 53:48SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 53:49SPEAKER_00: Um, as far as just this game itself is concerned, I would like the Ravens to win.
- 53:54SPEAKER_00: I'm a little biased on that, like I said.
- 53:56SPEAKER_00: Um, especially if Lamar does come back and play, it'll be nice to at least show the world, hey, I'm still back, don't write us off just yet.
- 54:04SPEAKER_00: And Derrick Henry is a fucking monster.
- 54:06SPEAKER_00: For him not to have a Super Bowl before he retires would just be blasphemy.
- 54:13SPEAKER_02: When I think about this game, you know, the Bills obviously coming off a bye, and now that we're you know officially expecting Lamar to come back, he's essentially had you know three weeks of rest himself to get right.
- 54:27SPEAKER_02: So both of these teams should be very fresh coming into this game.
- 54:30SPEAKER_02: I I think the over is very much in play here, um, with a total at 54 and a half.
- 54:37SPEAKER_02: Um, but to me, when I think about like who needs this game more, we just talked about it.
- 54:42SPEAKER_02: We talked about the AFC North, how stacked those standings are with two five and two teams right now, and the Bengals also above the Ravens.
- 54:51SPEAKER_02: I think from a need perspective, which really is a lot of how I pick games, you know, the spot, the you know, what the you know, the leverages, um, what the motivation is for each team.
- 55:04SPEAKER_02: I think the Ravens need this game.
- 55:06SPEAKER_02: And I also think Lamar does, um, at least in the regular season, um, because he's obviously had some struggles in the playoffs, but at least in the regular season, he certainly gets up for these big matchups, as does Josh Allen.
- 55:20SPEAKER_02: Um, but I do think the Ravens have a better roster than the Bills.
- 55:25SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna take the Ravens here to get an upset on the road.
- 55:29SPEAKER_02: Uh, I'm curious where you where you have the winner of this game going.
- 55:34SPEAKER_00: I also have the Ravens, especially with the, like you said, Lamar, three weeks rested.
- 55:39SPEAKER_00: Um, Zay Flowers is looking amazing right now.
- 55:42SPEAKER_00: Derrick Henry had a little bit of a slow game last week.
- 55:45SPEAKER_00: Anytime that happens, he tends to bounce back, 100-yard game, maybe a couple touchdowns.
- 55:49SPEAKER_00: Um, no matter all that considered, though, it's still hard to count Josh Allen out.
- 55:54SPEAKER_00: He always finds a way to win games.
- 55:57SPEAKER_00: Um, so I'm excited for it.
- 55:58SPEAKER_00: I think it'll be a great matchup.
- 55:59SPEAKER_00: It's a great way to start everything off.
- 56:01SPEAKER_00: Um, but let's hope that the Ravens can pull one out here, especially because, like you said, they need the win if they hope to keep that division alive.
- 56:08SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 56:10SPEAKER_02: Um, staying in the north, but going over to the NFC, the 6-0.
- 56:14SPEAKER_02: Like you said, the last undefeated team in the NFL, the Kyler Murray led Minnesota Vikings.
- 56:20SPEAKER_02: They traveled to Detroit and Ford Field to take on the four-and-two Lions.
- 56:25SPEAKER_02: The Lions are three-point favorites.
- 56:27SPEAKER_02: The over-under is set at 46 and a half for this game.
- 56:31SPEAKER_02: I mean, this is an immovable object against a movable force in this game.
- 56:38SPEAKER_02: A offense that cannot move the ball against a defense that does not want to stop anybody.
- 56:43SPEAKER_02: So something's got to give in this game.
- 56:46SPEAKER_02: But what I think it really comes down to is the other side of the ball.
- 56:50SPEAKER_02: You know, the two strengths actually is where this game will be decided.
- 56:53SPEAKER_02: I think the Vikings may get a few plays here and there on offense.
- 56:57SPEAKER_02: But where this game ultimately will come down to is the league's best defense against one of the league's top five offenses in the Lions.
- 57:05SPEAKER_02: But ultimately, when I think about the Lions and I think about at least since they've had Dan Campbell, where they find the most success, especially scoring points, it's at home.
- 57:15SPEAKER_02: They play very, very well on that turf in forward field.
- 57:19SPEAKER_02: Um, they get Jamison Williams way more involved when they're at home.
- 57:23SPEAKER_02: Jameer Gibbs becomes more of a passing option as well on the turf as well.
- 57:28SPEAKER_02: Uh, I just think that there are ways that the Lions team can take advantage of this Vikings team.
- 57:33SPEAKER_02: And especially if they are able to jump out to a lead and put some pressure on Kyler Murray in that offense.
- 57:40SPEAKER_02: I think the the Lions could honestly run away with this game and maybe start a little bit of a fraud watch alert on the Vikings.
- 57:49SPEAKER_02: Um, I'm curious, like where your where your mind goes when we're talking about the Vikings and the Lions, though.
- 57:55SPEAKER_00: So I'm actually gonna take the inverse and I'm gonna go Vikings for this one.
- 58:01SPEAKER_00: At minus three for the Lions.
- 58:03SPEAKER_02: So you are a believer.
- 58:04SPEAKER_00: I wouldn't call myself a believer, but it it feels like a trap game at minus three at home.
- 58:11SPEAKER_00: Like you said, they normally put up a bunch of points.
- 58:14SPEAKER_00: Um, but to only give them minus three at home where you know they need a win against a team that theoretically they should beat if we're just looking at a player versus player standpoint.
- 58:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it feels like maybe the Lion Makers know something we don't know.
- 58:29SPEAKER_00: Um, from a pure football perspective, the Lions should run away with this game just because Jameer Gibbs is unstoppable.
- 58:37SPEAKER_00: Like you said, if they get J-Mo involved, he is also unstoppable.
- 58:41SPEAKER_00: Um, and then like we talked about earlier, Jared Goff has godly power sometimes, you know?
- 58:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 58:47SPEAKER_00: Um, maybe Dan Campbell doesn't make the wrong decision this game.
- 58:51SPEAKER_00: Maybe he does, though.
- 58:52SPEAKER_00: So I think there's a lot of variables that do go into this.
- 58:55SPEAKER_00: Um, I think it'll be a close one to watch, but like you said, I think the game will be decided in the first half.
- 59:01SPEAKER_00: Whoever runs away with it or gets a good footing momentum-wise in the first half wins that game.
- 59:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, I I like that take.
- 59:08SPEAKER_02: I I definitely agree because I I think in both scenarios, if the Vikings are able to establish, especially on defense, a physical identity on Sunday and affect Jared Goff, that's really the way the Lions lose.
- 59:22SPEAKER_02: They just get beat up really bad.
- 59:24SPEAKER_02: And then kind of on the flip side, if the Lions are able to use some of that speed and explosiveness that the Vikings don't really have early on, we'll know.
- 59:33SPEAKER_02: You know, like you'll know pretty quick.
- 59:35SPEAKER_02: Um, but you are taking the Vikings, correct?
- 59:37SPEAKER_00: I'm taking the Vikings on that one.
- 59:39SPEAKER_02: He's he thinks there's a 7-0 team, bro.
- 59:42SPEAKER_00: I think I think it's a 7-0 team, and then I think they lose immediately after.
- 59:47SPEAKER_02: I I go to check the schedule and they play the Chiefs in week nine.
- 59:53SPEAKER_02: Uh let's go back to the AFC North.
- 59:56SPEAKER_02: The five-and-two Browns, they traveled to Pittsburgh to take on, much like them, the five and two Steelers.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_02: The Steelers are three and a half point home favorites.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_02: The over-under is set at 39 and a half.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_02: This is this is dog shit to me.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_02: This is bad.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_02: These are two teams that I don't believe in.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_02: I I don't think either of these teams are that good, but you know what?
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_02: You know what?
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_02: Well, actually not what the numbers say, man.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_02: You know what I really think?
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_02: I think that the Steelers are way worse than the Browns.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_02: I agree with you.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_02: I think the Browns are a lot better than them.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_02: I I agree with you.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna take the Browns.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_00: I'm also taking the Browns.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_00: I am not um sold on this whole, oh, this is Aaron Rodgers year thing.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_00: I think this man should have retired years ago.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_00: Honestly, in my opinion, he's only hurting his legacy by putting all these L's on his record.
- 1:00:51SPEAKER_02: Man, the the the game in Paris on Sunday.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_02: I mean, this has been the case every game that the Steelers have played this year.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_02: It's check down, check down, check down.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_02: Through I think through the three quarters, I don't know if this held true the entire game, but through three quarters, Aaron Rodgers' average depth of target on Sunday against the Saints was negative.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_02: That shouldn't even work.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_02: A lot of screen passes, a lot of behind the line of scrimmage passes.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_02: I mean, that's what they do, and then the ones that aren't behind the line of scrimmage are three or four yards in front of it, you know.
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_00: And that's not the game that he made his name on, you know what I mean?
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_00: That's not that's not Lambo Aaron.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_02: It's also not what their team is built for.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_02: They have DK Metcalf, they I mean they have Michael Pittman Jr.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_02: Like they have guys that are built to win outside, and they are a dink and dunk team that features Jalen Warren, not because he's amazing, and I'm not trying to slight Jalen Warren, but because they have to, they need to just have a safety valve out of the backfield.
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_02: And honestly, I think the Browns have a lot more to work with on defense and on offense.
- 1:02:03SPEAKER_02: I like Concepcion, I really like Denzel Boston.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_02: I think Harold Fannon is an emerging tight end that could maybe get into that elite class next year.
- 1:02:15SPEAKER_02: Um and Deshaun, I mean, I gotta call it spade a spade.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_02: He has been pretty good.
- 1:02:21SPEAKER_00: I mean, sometimes all you need is for everyone in the world to doubt you, including his own fan base, including everyone.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_00: There was a period in time where even the team was making comments that, in my opinion, if I was Deshaun, I would take slide it, you know?
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_00: People were getting real loose there with their opinions for a while, almost as if he just didn't exist.
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_00: Like there was no way he was gonna keep running the show and now look at where he has you.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_00: So I imagine in that in that um offensive and that defensive room, there's a lot of uh kumbaya and and deep talk moments with where they are right now in the season, because the only way you keep that momentum going is at this point to make sure everybody's on the same page.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_02: The other advantage here uh before we move on is the fact that the Steelers are coming off of that international travel.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_02: I know they're at home and they play very well at home.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_02: I just think the Browns, I just think they're live dogs.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_02: I don't I don't know that they'll continue this long enough to make the playoffs, but I think that they're gonna be like right outside of the door.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_02: Like I just unless they suffer a bunch of injuries, I think there's enough there on this team to keep them in games all throughout the rest of the season.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_00: Um, they're such a young team, they're growing every week.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_00: Like you can see the progress every week between the players.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_02: I mean, honestly, the only guy that really contributes for them that's not young is Deshaun.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_02: And if you're gonna pick one position to have an a an older veteran, it's the quarterback position, and it is working for them right now.
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_02: I don't love Todd Munken, I don't love that they hired Todd Munken, but it is I like the roster, you know, like it's hard to be bad enough as a coach to downgrade like skill.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_02: So I don't know.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_02: But any other thoughts on this Steelers Brown?
- 1:04:18SPEAKER_02: It's a really interesting game.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's really interesting.
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_02: I'm really fascinated to see how it plays out.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_00: I think this will be the game that determines if we if I've already done it, but if everyone else should put Aaron Rodgers on fraud watch, yeah.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_00: Because I think he's done, and I just don't have any faith in him to carry a team deep into the season.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_02: So surely enough, the Steelers will win this game 35 to nothing, and he will have five passing touchdowns.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_00: Hey man, what with the month I'm having.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_02: Both of us will look like idiots.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_02: Uh let's go over to your team, the Kansas City Chiefs.
- 1:04:54SPEAKER_02: They play a really big game this week.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_02: The five-and-one Chiefs traveled to Denver for their second matchup with the Broncos.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_02: They open the season with the Broncos and absolutely smoked them on Monday night football in Arrowhead.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_02: This time the Chiefs are on the road, but they are still slight favorites.
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_02: They are one and a half point favorites.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_02: They are the over-under is set at 40 and a half.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna let you start here before I say anything.
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_02: What are your thoughts on this Chiefs Broncos game?
- 1:05:25SPEAKER_00: I um biased.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_00: Um, but I will say just based on the line alone, it feels like a trap game.
- 1:05:32SPEAKER_00: Um, again, one of those situations where maybe they know something we don't.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_00: Um I'm gonna pick the Chiefs because uh history tells me to, even if I wasn't a fan, history tells me that since the Chiefs have had Patrick Mahomes, Bill Bellamy, and Spagnoli, we have gone six and two in Denver.
- 1:05:53SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_00: And since we've had Mahomes, we have not had a running back.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_00: So you give us you give us the same kind of mixed up wide receiving core we've had, you give us a healthy Mahomes, you give us the top running back in the league, you give us an offensive line that has finally fixed their issues and finally remembered how to play football.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_00: And I don't think that we lose to the Broncos.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_00: I think it'll be a tight game just because of how the Broncos are playing.
- 1:06:21SPEAKER_00: Honestly, I wish the Broncos weren't a division rival because I do like their team.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_00: I do like how they play football.
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_00: Um, but I think we pull it out only if because we have to, even though we've only lost one game, I feel like the Chiefs are on fraud watch every week because everyone wants us to fail still.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_02: This I I I have more faith in the Chiefs than I did by a large extent at the beginning of last season.
- 1:06:47SPEAKER_02: Um and it's really due to the fact that their running game is so much better.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_02: The I don't I I don't know what to make of what happens when teams go to mile high.
- 1:06:59SPEAKER_02: The Jags lost already there this year, the Broncos are undefeated at home.
- 1:07:04SPEAKER_02: Um, the thing that I'm gonna pick the Broncos, and I'm gonna tell you why.
- 1:07:09SPEAKER_02: When I look at this line, you you kind of said it yourself.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_02: The fact that the Chiefs are one and a half point favorites on the road, and the total is set at 40 and a half.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_02: That just smells to me like a nasty Broncos 17 to 16 win.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_02: You know, something something real, real gross like that.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_02: And I don't understand how it keeps happening.
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_02: Bo Nicks has been one of the worst analytic driven quarterbacks in the NFL.
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_02: His average depth of target is is terrible.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_02: I think he's in the bottom three or four in the NFL.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_02: He's one of the only quarterbacks to have a winning record in his career with a negative average depth of target, which blows my mind.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_02: Um I I just yeah, you're picking them.
- 1:07:59SPEAKER_02: I just think that they have voodoo when they're at home, man.
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_02: I think they have some like black magic voodoo that I don't understand.
- 1:08:07SPEAKER_02: I don't I don't understand it.
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_02: I just I I don't I don't even like their running backs.
- 1:08:13SPEAKER_02: I think all of their running backs are pretty bad.
- 1:08:16SPEAKER_00: Um I think if we win this game, we're gonna have to win it through the passing game.
- 1:08:23SPEAKER_00: Yes, because uh their secondary is so banged up right now.
- 1:08:27SPEAKER_00: Yes, the ball never quite flies as smoothly as it does when you're in mile high.
- 1:08:32SPEAKER_00: So it's like perfect conditions to have a good passing game.
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_00: Um, hopefully with K9, we can kind of draw some of that pressure off the uh off the receivers and get something downfield.
- 1:08:43SPEAKER_00: But I think a lot of the game will be decided through the air.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_00: I mean, the chief secondary is always skeptical.
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_00: So Bo Nix, whether you like his his pass depth or not, he gets the ball where it needs to go when it needs to get there.
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_00: I mean, he's been consistent doing that this year so far.
- 1:09:00SPEAKER_00: Um, so I have you have to think that a lot of this game is gonna lie with both teams secondary.
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 1:09:06SPEAKER_02: Um, let's go to Thursday night football.
- 1:09:09SPEAKER_02: Um, the game that opens up the week eight slate.
- 1:09:12SPEAKER_02: The three and three Panthers traveled to Green Bay and Lambeau Field to take on the four and three Packers.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_02: The Packers are three and a half point favorites.
- 1:09:20SPEAKER_02: The over-under is set at 47 and a half.
- 1:09:24SPEAKER_02: Both of these teams suffered losses last week.
- 1:09:26SPEAKER_02: The Panthers got the breaks beat off of them by a two and five Bucks team.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_02: Um, we just talked about the Packers.
- 1:09:33SPEAKER_02: Pakers back, baby.
- 1:09:35SPEAKER_02: It was it was that was bad.
- 1:09:37SPEAKER_02: That was a ass whooping that they took uh at home against the Bucs.
- 1:09:42SPEAKER_02: Um, this this is an interesting game, though.
- 1:09:45SPEAKER_02: I think that this has potential to be a very fun game um and a very high scoring game.
- 1:09:52SPEAKER_02: I don't I don't know that I really trust either of these teams to be like week in and week out very, very good.
- 1:09:59SPEAKER_02: But I'll tell you what I do trust.
- 1:10:01SPEAKER_02: I I do trust that the Panthers' offense week in and week out.
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_02: I know last week they kind of got it handed to him, but I just think that even more to my point, provide some positive regression here.
- 1:10:14SPEAKER_02: I think that the Panthers offense has a lot of options.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_02: I like Tetter Row McMillan, I like Jalen Coker, I like Chuba Hubbard, I like a lot of what they can do on offense.
- 1:10:25SPEAKER_02: And again, I gotta be honest, Bryce Young, since that early stage of his career, has been pretty good and pretty consistent.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_02: Um, I'm curious where where do you where do you see this game going?
- 1:10:37SPEAKER_02: Like between these two quarterbacks, or do you think this is more of like a defensive struggle on Thursday night?
- 1:10:43SPEAKER_00: I think it's gonna be a quarterback game.
- 1:10:46SPEAKER_00: Um, I'm taking uh Packers in this one, just more kind of a gut feeling.
- 1:10:50SPEAKER_00: I just think I trust love a little bit more.
- 1:10:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um, I do agree with you on the Panthers though, regardless of what their record is, they're the players that they have don't necessarily reflect that.
- 1:11:01SPEAKER_00: And and again, they're a young team.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_00: Excuse me.
- 1:11:04SPEAKER_00: They're a young team.
- 1:11:04SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of growing to do.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_00: Jalen Coker's probably one of my favorite um young right receivers right now.
- 1:11:10SPEAKER_00: When he is on, he is on.
- 1:11:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:11:13SPEAKER_00: Um Bryce Lung, like you said, he's shown a lot of growth here, especially from last year and kind of how he came in with that season.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_00: Um, but I think Jared and Love has been a little more consistent.
- 1:11:24SPEAKER_00: Um, the defense will play a big part in this game.
- 1:11:27SPEAKER_00: I do think the Packers have a better defense than the Panthers.
- 1:11:30SPEAKER_00: So even if both quarterbacks end up equally matched, because that's a high possibility.
- 1:11:34SPEAKER_00: I think maybe the Packers' defense helps them edge it out a little bit better than say otherwise.
- 1:11:40SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 1:11:41SPEAKER_02: And our last game we'll get into a little bit more detail with the five and two Bears traveled back to Seattle.
- 1:11:48SPEAKER_02: The Seattle Seahawks have back-to-back primetime games.
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_02: This one taking place on Monday night football, where the Seattle Seahawks are three-point favorites.
- 1:11:57SPEAKER_02: The over-under is set at 46 and a half.
- 1:12:00SPEAKER_02: And I'm I'm on the Caleb train.
- 1:12:04SPEAKER_02: I was not on the Caleb train coming into coming into the NFL.
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_02: I didn't love some of the things that he did in college, but Ben Johnson has smoothed all the edges around.
- 1:12:17SPEAKER_02: Smoothed all the edges around.
- 1:12:19SPEAKER_02: And I think that this offense presents a lot of challenges for defenses.
- 1:12:25SPEAKER_02: And I think it's underrated how good the Bears' defense is, honestly.
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_02: They were the best team enforcing turnovers in the NFL last year.
- 1:12:34SPEAKER_02: They've been one of the best teams in the NFL this year enforcing turnovers.
- 1:12:38SPEAKER_02: I think that travels.
- 1:12:39SPEAKER_02: Turnovers travel.
- 1:12:40SPEAKER_02: I see it week in and week out with the Jags.
- 1:12:43SPEAKER_02: Uh, I think turnovers enforcing turnovers travels on the road.
- 1:12:47SPEAKER_02: And I think that there's a reason that the total and the and the spread is only three.
- 1:12:53SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna take the Bears here.
- 1:12:55SPEAKER_02: Are you are you leaning with the Seahawks?
- 1:12:57SPEAKER_02: Where are you thinking?
- 1:12:59SPEAKER_00: I I bet you could guess the answer to my question just based on the result.
- 1:13:04SPEAKER_00: No, it all in all reality though.
- 1:13:06SPEAKER_00: I'm taking the Bears again, like you said, minus three at home for a team who theoretically people are talking about being back-to-back Super Bowl contenders.
- 1:13:14SPEAKER_00: It feels like a trap game.
- 1:13:16SPEAKER_00: Again, one of those situations that somebody knows something that we don't know.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_00: Um the Bears are amazing when Caleb Williams plays.
- 1:13:24SPEAKER_00: Uh, and it's like we talked about earlier, they've got so much young talent, whether it be on the outside.
- 1:13:29SPEAKER_00: Uh, even Monangai, I don't know if he's gonna be back this week or not.
- 1:13:33SPEAKER_00: Um, but even just having Caleb back.
- 1:13:35SPEAKER_00: I mean, we saw what he did last week and the week before that, just being back after injury.
- 1:13:39SPEAKER_00: If they can stay healthy, I think that would be of the two teams we're talking about right now, if they could stay healthy, that should be the one we're talking about as a Super Bowl contender.
- 1:13:47SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 1:13:48SPEAKER_02: Um, the rest of the games we're gonna go through in a little bit more rapid fire.
- 1:13:52SPEAKER_02: So the two and five Colts traveled to the Jags and the four and two Jags, I should say.
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_02: The Jags are nine and a half point favorites.
- 1:14:00SPEAKER_02: The over-under is set at 46 and a half.
- 1:14:02SPEAKER_02: I will, of course, be in attendance for this game.
- 1:14:05SPEAKER_02: I think the Jags are gonna pull some belts off their belt loops, and I think they whip the Colts in this game.
- 1:14:13SPEAKER_02: Who are you picking?
- 1:14:15SPEAKER_00: I'm taking the Jags.
- 1:14:16SPEAKER_00: I feel like the Colts are self-sabotaging right now.
- 1:14:18SPEAKER_00: Um, that nine and a half spread feels kind of trappy.
- 1:14:22SPEAKER_00: I think maybe the Jags get up and then just kind of slow the game down and just kind of take the easy win.
- 1:14:26SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, Jags all the way.
- 1:14:29SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna reference this on our tail to tailgate picks because there may be a play I have in this game in the tail to tailgate picks, and I like exactly what you said there.
- 1:14:38SPEAKER_02: It's gonna come back up again.
- 1:14:40SPEAKER_02: So the one and six Titans, they travel to the uh four and two Bengals.
- 1:14:44SPEAKER_02: The Bengals are 10 and a half point favorites.
- 1:14:46SPEAKER_02: The over-under set, also at 46 and a half.
- 1:14:49SPEAKER_02: A lot of 46 and a half this week.
- 1:14:51SPEAKER_02: Very strange.
- 1:14:52SPEAKER_02: Um, I'm gonna take the Bengals.
- 1:14:54SPEAKER_02: I think Cam Ward is one of the worst two quarterbacks in the NFL.
- 1:14:58SPEAKER_02: I'm taking the bangles.
- 1:15:00SPEAKER_02: I also, I know we're doing this a little bit more rapid fire.
- 1:15:03SPEAKER_02: Have to share this.
- 1:15:04SPEAKER_02: I saw a video today of Robert Salah, the Titans head coach.
- 1:15:09SPEAKER_02: A reporter asked him what his message to the team was heading into this week.
- 1:15:14SPEAKER_02: He I think he maybe said uh a sentence, and then it was like he froze and he was like, honestly, I forgot what I was saying.
- 1:15:24SPEAKER_02: And he looked at the guy that was like standing next to him and he's like, Do you remember what I said in the meeting?
- 1:15:29SPEAKER_02: I don't need to see anymore.
- 1:15:30SPEAKER_02: Give me the bangles.
- 1:15:32SPEAKER_02: Who you got?
- 1:15:34SPEAKER_00: I'm taking the bangles.
- 1:15:35SPEAKER_00: I don't have much faith in those Titans, man.
- 1:15:37SPEAKER_00: Like you said, Cam Moore is not what he's that he was described to be coming from a college quarterback.
- 1:15:44SPEAKER_00: Uh, I am interested to say that I know we're rapid fire.
- 1:15:47SPEAKER_00: You said he's one of the two worst in the league.
- 1:15:49SPEAKER_00: Who's that number two?
- 1:15:53SPEAKER_02: Him and him in another week.
- 1:15:58SPEAKER_02: It's honestly either to me, it it kind of rotates right now.
- 1:16:03SPEAKER_02: Let me pull my list up.
- 1:16:04SPEAKER_02: Right now, I have him number 32.
- 1:16:09SPEAKER_02: I had Gino 31.
- 1:16:13SPEAKER_00: Um I forgot that guy even plays football still.
- 1:16:17SPEAKER_02: I I don't think it's unrealistic to put Aaron Rodgers kind of in this area and then like Jacoby Brissett.
- 1:16:24SPEAKER_02: So but Cam Ward is like clearly to me like the worst quarterback.
- 1:16:30SPEAKER_02: I mean, there's many, many weeks when he struggles to get past 120 passing yards.
- 1:16:35SPEAKER_00: Do you think he grows out of that or do you think it's just who he is?
- 1:16:39SPEAKER_02: I think I think at a certain point, like it was why it was so important that the Jags fired Urban Meyer so fast.
- 1:16:46SPEAKER_02: I think at a certain point, you we've we've seen it time and time again with some of these elite draft prospects.
- 1:16:53SPEAKER_02: Even if he wasn't capable of being like a top-tier starter coming out of college, I think at a certain point, like once they're in that losing environment with bad coaches, bad systems, I think it just kind of sticks to them, you know, like a resume almost.
- 1:17:08SPEAKER_02: Like that's who you are.
- 1:17:09SPEAKER_02: Like you're a bad quarterback now.
- 1:17:11SPEAKER_00: And Sam Darnold.
- 1:17:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:17:14SPEAKER_02: So I mean, Sam Darnold, he he went to a very favorable situation um twice, honestly.
- 1:17:22SPEAKER_02: If we're being honest, he got to Minnesota and then he went to Seattle.
- 1:17:25SPEAKER_02: So I don't know.
- 1:17:27SPEAKER_02: Who I mean, maybe the Titans trade him eventually.
- 1:17:30SPEAKER_02: And I don't see it though.
- 1:17:33SPEAKER_02: I don't see I don't see it in the cards.
- 1:17:35SPEAKER_02: Um the two and five Cardinals, they traveled to the Dallas Cowboys to take on the three-and-four Cowboys.
- 1:17:42SPEAKER_02: The Cowboys are seven-point favorites.
- 1:17:44SPEAKER_02: The over-under is set at 54 and a half.
- 1:17:46SPEAKER_02: I just mentioned to Kobe Brissett, he has not been very good this year, especially in first halves of games.
- 1:17:52SPEAKER_02: They've also just not scored touchdowns.
- 1:17:54SPEAKER_02: They're kicking a ton of field goals.
- 1:17:56SPEAKER_02: And Dallas, they may not be able to stop many teams on offense or on defense, excuse me, but they can certainly move the ball on offense.
- 1:18:04SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna take the Cowboys here.
- 1:18:05SPEAKER_02: Who you got?
- 1:18:06SPEAKER_00: I'm taking the Cowboys.
- 1:18:08SPEAKER_00: I think it'll be a walk in the park.
- 1:18:10SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 1:18:10SPEAKER_02: The three and four Raiders travel to Meadowlands to take on the two and five Jets, where the Jets are small one and a half point favorites.
- 1:18:18SPEAKER_02: The over-under is set at 45 and a half.
- 1:18:21SPEAKER_02: I might as well rename this to the Tailgate Jet podcast because I feel like I pick the Jets every week.
- 1:18:27SPEAKER_02: I'm taking the Jets.
- 1:18:29SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna take the Raiders.
- 1:18:30SPEAKER_00: Coco Taines, baby.
- 1:18:32SPEAKER_02: Nice.
- 1:18:33SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:18:33SPEAKER_02: The three and four Falcons.
- 1:18:35SPEAKER_02: They traveled to Tampa Bay and Raymond James Stadium to take on the two and five Bucks.
- 1:18:40SPEAKER_02: The Bucks are two and a half point home favorites.
- 1:18:42SPEAKER_02: Obviously, like you said, Baker Mayfield is back.
- 1:18:44SPEAKER_02: The total for the game is set at 44 and a half.
- 1:18:48SPEAKER_02: I saw a hilarious clip before I give you my pick today, um, from the pivot podcast of Channing Crowder explaining how important having a safe peak is and having a protected peanx.
- 1:19:03SPEAKER_02: And Ryan Clark and Fred Taylor were weak.
- 1:19:06SPEAKER_02: They were extremely weak.
- 1:19:08SPEAKER_02: Uh that being said, I'm gonna take the Bucks at home.
- 1:19:11SPEAKER_02: Uh, Baker Mayfield's back.
- 1:19:13SPEAKER_02: I think they have some momentum going right here.
- 1:19:15SPEAKER_02: Um, I do like the Falcons' offense.
- 1:19:18SPEAKER_02: I don't know that I really like Michael Penix, but I'm gonna take the Bucs here at home.
- 1:19:22SPEAKER_02: Who you got?
- 1:19:23SPEAKER_00: Uh Penix is playing better, all things considered.
- 1:19:27SPEAKER_00: Um, but I'm taking the Bucs.
- 1:19:29SPEAKER_00: Like you said, Baker is back.
- 1:19:30SPEAKER_00: That's all you really need to know.
- 1:19:32SPEAKER_02: Uh, two teams that share the same same stadium in SoFi are gonna be matching up this week.
- 1:19:38SPEAKER_02: The 0-6.
- 1:19:40SPEAKER_02: 0-6.
- 1:19:42SPEAKER_02: Some idiot on a podcast said that they were gonna win the AFC West.
- 1:19:46SPEAKER_02: That guy, that guy shouldn't have a microphone ever again.
- 1:19:50SPEAKER_02: Um, the 0-6 Chargers take on on a long road trip across the hallway.
- 1:19:57SPEAKER_02: The three and four Rams.
- 1:19:58SPEAKER_02: The Rams are six and a half point favorites.
- 1:20:00SPEAKER_02: The over-under is set at 45 and a half.
- 1:20:03SPEAKER_02: Honestly, I thought about taking the Chargers, I really did.
- 1:20:07SPEAKER_02: Um, they're not gonna go 0-17, like they gotta win a game eventually.
- 1:20:13SPEAKER_02: Do they play the Dolphins?
- 1:20:15SPEAKER_02: I I don't think they do.
- 1:20:18SPEAKER_02: I thought I I'm being very serious.
- 1:20:20SPEAKER_02: I thought about picking them in this game, but I'm gonna take the Rams.
- 1:20:27SPEAKER_02: The six and a half, though, is six and a half is usually a key number for me to take the underdog.
- 1:20:34SPEAKER_02: If Vegas wants to trap people into taking right under a touchdown, like, oh wow, all they have to do is win by a touchdown, sure, until they lose outright.
- 1:20:44SPEAKER_02: You know, and that's almost always what happens when they set a line at two and a half or six and a half that that team loses.
- 1:20:52SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna take it.
- 1:20:54SPEAKER_00: I feel like the chargers need to win, like people in hell need ice water, you know, and I feel like uh, like you said, it's another trap line game.
- 1:21:05SPEAKER_00: Um, but it's it's hard to bet against Matt Stafford.
- 1:21:08SPEAKER_00: It's hard to bet against Kyron Williams, Puka Nakua.
- 1:21:11SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 1:21:12SPEAKER_02: Here's a question Who has more fans show up to this game?
- 1:21:17SPEAKER_02: I'd have died if you just immediately said the Steelers.
- 1:21:22SPEAKER_02: Or the Eagles or something.
- 1:21:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like that's that's the problem with having their games there is that uh even even Raiders fans, they were like their biggest qualm with that sharing the stadium is it's impossible to get tickets for your own team because it's such a vacation destination.
- 1:21:39SPEAKER_00: Um I think the Rams win, and I think the Rams probably have more fans show up to this.
- 1:21:45SPEAKER_00: I think Justin Herbert's a fraud.
- 1:21:47SPEAKER_00: I've been saying it for years.
- 1:21:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I think the fans are finally starting to realize that.
- 1:21:51SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 1:21:52SPEAKER_02: The four and three Patriots, they traveled down to South Beach fresh off the Dolphins' first win.
- 1:21:58SPEAKER_02: They are one and five on the season.
- 1:21:59SPEAKER_02: The Patriots are seven-point road favorites.
- 1:22:02SPEAKER_02: The over-under is set at 43.5.
- 1:22:04SPEAKER_02: I do not think that the dolphins are gonna put a winning streak together.
- 1:22:08SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna take the Patriots here.
- 1:22:10SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna take the Patriots as well.
- 1:22:11SPEAKER_00: Let's go, Drake May.
- 1:22:13SPEAKER_02: The two and five Eagles uh on Sunday night football traveled to our nation's capital to take on the one four and one Washington Commanders.
- 1:22:23SPEAKER_02: The commanders are five and a half point favorites.
- 1:22:25SPEAKER_02: The over-under is set at 40 and a half.
- 1:22:28SPEAKER_02: Give me Jaden Daniels and the Commanders at home.
- 1:22:31SPEAKER_02: I think they desperately need a win, especially against a backup quarterback.
- 1:22:35SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna take the commanders.
- 1:22:37SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna take the commanders as well, or as I like to call them the Washington football team.
- 1:22:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:22:42SPEAKER_00: Um if only because it's hard for the it's hard for the Eagles to get a win at all, but let alone without Jalen Hurts, the one that gets them all their wins.
- 1:22:51SPEAKER_00: Um and I think we'd be remiss if we didn't pause to send out some royal wishes to him.
- 1:22:57SPEAKER_00: As much as I hate the Eagles and hate what they did to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, at the end of the day, it is just football.
- 1:23:03SPEAKER_00: And hopefully everything goes well with him.
- 1:23:05SPEAKER_00: Hopefully he comes back and can do his thing again.
- 1:23:07SPEAKER_00: And even if he can't come back to the field, hopefully he can kind of you know live out a healthy, hopefully it's not as bad as it seems when you say blood clots in the lungs, you know.
- 1:23:16SPEAKER_02: I mean, that's what happened to Chris Bosch.
- 1:23:18SPEAKER_02: I'm a big Miami Heat fan, and that's what happened to him, and it literally ended his career.
- 1:23:23SPEAKER_02: Like out of nowhere, all of a sudden they found it in like a month before the season, and then he just never played again.
- 1:23:29SPEAKER_02: And it was like, okay, we just lost the Hall of Famer out of nowhere, that sucks.
- 1:23:33SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, like hopefully that doesn't happen.
- 1:23:37SPEAKER_00: Eventually they have to make the decision though.
- 1:23:39SPEAKER_00: Um, life over money, you know.
- 1:23:42SPEAKER_00: And I think Jalen Hart hurts with the family.
- 1:23:45SPEAKER_00: He's he's a smart guy, regardless of how you feel about him from a sports perspective.
- 1:23:48SPEAKER_00: He's a smart guy, and I think he's smart enough to know when it's the right time to make that decision.
- 1:23:52SPEAKER_00: Um, but just wishing him the best.
- 1:23:54SPEAKER_00: Hopefully, it all goes well for him.
- 1:23:57SPEAKER_02: Well, it is time we've gone through our game previews.
- 1:24:00SPEAKER_02: It is time to wrap up the episode with our tail, the tailgate picks.
- 1:24:05SPEAKER_02: So we will do this ping-pong style.
- 1:24:07SPEAKER_02: So I will get us started.
- 1:24:08SPEAKER_02: But before I do, my year-to-date record is 32 and 24.
- 1:24:13SPEAKER_02: I am up 4.25 units on the season.
- 1:24:16SPEAKER_02: Last week we went four and four and juiced out at minus 0.2 units, so not the best, but certainly not the worst, certainly not the worst.
- 1:24:25SPEAKER_02: Uh, could could always be worse than negative 0.2 units.
- 1:24:29SPEAKER_02: So we will take that.
- 1:24:31SPEAKER_02: And I will start us off.
- 1:24:32SPEAKER_02: We talked about um this big AFC North game or this big matchup between these two quarterbacks, the Ravens and the Bills.
- 1:24:39SPEAKER_02: And I just think the Ravens need this.
- 1:24:41SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna take the Ravens plus three and a half.
- 1:24:43SPEAKER_02: Um, where is your first pick?
- 1:24:46SPEAKER_00: My first pick is gonna be Dallas Cowboys six and a half.
- 1:24:51SPEAKER_00: I think they cover easy.
- 1:24:52SPEAKER_00: One touchdown.
- 1:24:53SPEAKER_00: I don't think that's gonna be an issue for them.
- 1:24:55SPEAKER_00: Um, like you said, they can move the ball, and when they're clicking, they put up points like no other.
- 1:25:00SPEAKER_02: Another game that we highlighted early on in our previews is the Lions and the Vikings.
- 1:25:06SPEAKER_02: This is kind of just a test of wills.
- 1:25:08SPEAKER_02: I I think the Lions have more in their makeup than the Vikings do.
- 1:25:12SPEAKER_02: I think the fact that they're at home lends to them playing well.
- 1:25:16SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna take them also minus three and a half.
- 1:25:19SPEAKER_02: Um, I just like their offense at home in this spot.
- 1:25:22SPEAKER_02: I think they get a big divisional win.
- 1:25:24SPEAKER_02: Um, so who is your second pick?
- 1:25:27SPEAKER_00: Um, keeping it with the same game.
- 1:25:30SPEAKER_00: Uh, I don't I don't mind your pick.
- 1:25:32SPEAKER_00: I just feel like any anytime you get those even spreads, it's a it's a trap almost.
- 1:25:37SPEAKER_00: But I'm gonna go with the over 46 and a half.
- 1:25:40SPEAKER_00: That seems low for two teams that really need a win, two teams that can really score points if they're clicking on all cylinders.
- 1:25:46SPEAKER_02: Nice.
- 1:25:47SPEAKER_02: Um, and honestly, it kind of supports my my pick a little bit too, because I don't think there's a way the lions win in this game, isn't high scoring.
- 1:25:55SPEAKER_02: 100%.
- 1:25:56SPEAKER_02: If this game is drastically under 46 and a half, the Lions for sure will lose this game.
- 1:26:02SPEAKER_02: So um the my next pick, my third pick is gonna be an NFC South stinker of a game.
- 1:26:08SPEAKER_02: Um, I'm gonna take the Bucs at home.
- 1:26:10SPEAKER_02: I think they looked really good running the ball last week.
- 1:26:13SPEAKER_02: Um, and I think that Baker is a little bit motivated right now to get a win at home.
- 1:26:17SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna take the Bucs at home on the money line.
- 1:26:20SPEAKER_02: Who is your third pick?
- 1:26:23SPEAKER_00: Well, we'll get the easy one out of the way.
- 1:26:25SPEAKER_00: Um, Chiefs moneyline, like I said before, six and two in Denver.
- 1:26:29SPEAKER_00: I don't think there is any way to stop us after a loss like we had last week.
- 1:26:33SPEAKER_00: I think we're looking for blood.
- 1:26:35SPEAKER_02: I already said it.
- 1:26:36SPEAKER_02: The the Jets, I might as well rename my podcast to the Tailgate Jet Podcast because I have picked the Jets to cover spreads, and they've been pretty good ATS.
- 1:26:45SPEAKER_02: Um, not great money line, but we are going money line at home against the Raiders.
- 1:26:51SPEAKER_02: I'm taking the Jets.
- 1:26:53SPEAKER_02: Come on, Gino.
- 1:26:54SPEAKER_02: We need a win.
- 1:26:55SPEAKER_02: They tried to write you off.
- 1:26:56SPEAKER_02: You didn't write back, baby.
- 1:26:59SPEAKER_02: Who is your fourth pick, DK?
- 1:27:01SPEAKER_00: That's a risky pick.
- 1:27:02SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna follow it up with another one.
- 1:27:04SPEAKER_00: Let's go, Chargers, plus six and a half.
- 1:27:07SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 1:27:09SPEAKER_02: Nice.
- 1:27:10SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 1:27:11SPEAKER_02: I I honestly I thought about the Chargers plus six and a half as well.
- 1:27:16SPEAKER_02: Um, I I like that spot.
- 1:27:19SPEAKER_02: They need a win.
- 1:27:20SPEAKER_00: And the Rams aren't one of those teams to run up the score on you.
- 1:27:23SPEAKER_00: They'll take the safe win and go home.
- 1:27:25SPEAKER_02: And how many teams besides I mean, I guess the answer is two other teams, but uh how many teams get to play a road game at home?
- 1:27:33SPEAKER_02: In your home, yeah.
- 1:27:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think I think that that suits them well to maybe cover that spread there.
- 1:27:39SPEAKER_02: My fifth pick, uh, I'm going to the Monday night game, the Bears and the Seahawks.
- 1:27:46SPEAKER_02: I kind of already said it.
- 1:27:48SPEAKER_02: I just think that the Bears have a lot more to throw at Seattle than what Seattle can throw back at the Bears.
- 1:27:54SPEAKER_02: Um, and I think they have way more ways to win the game than Seattle does.
- 1:27:59SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna take the Bears plus three.
- 1:28:01SPEAKER_02: Maybe they don't win, but I definitely think they keep this game close.
- 1:28:04SPEAKER_02: Um, and the three is within striking distance for the majority of the game.
- 1:28:08SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna take the Bears on the spread there.
- 1:28:11SPEAKER_02: Hit me with your fifth pick, sir.
- 1:28:14SPEAKER_00: You know, I love that pick so much, and we it's crazy because we haven't talked about this before, but I've got Bears Money Line.
- 1:28:21SPEAKER_00: Nice.
- 1:28:22SPEAKER_00: I I think with Caleb back, I think they're also playing for Blood.
- 1:28:26SPEAKER_00: They he they've been counting out for years.
- 1:28:28SPEAKER_00: There's that whole Bears Curse thing, they've finally got a team that can win it, and I think they do everything they can to make that happen.
- 1:28:35SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 1:28:36SPEAKER_02: Uh, I told you I was gonna come back to the point you made about the Jags maybe taking the foot off the pedal in the second half.
- 1:28:42SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna take the Jags minus five in the first half, and here's why.
- 1:28:48SPEAKER_02: The Jags play the Colts this weekend, which I I think that they will win the game, and I think it will be pretty controlled throughout.
- 1:28:55SPEAKER_02: I think that they will jump out to a good start, especially the Jags are coming off of a bye.
- 1:29:00SPEAKER_02: Um, the Colts obviously just traded away two of their best trench players.
- 1:29:04SPEAKER_02: Uh, but the big thing is the Jags play Thursday night next week.
- 1:29:08SPEAKER_02: So I don't think that they're gonna want to be putting, you know, like you said, their foot on the floor um and the pedal to the metal, so to speak, um, because they said they have a big game on Thursday night against the Ravens after this matchup.
- 1:29:20SPEAKER_02: So I think the Jags try to run up the score as much as they can in the first half and try to get that game over with as fast as possible.
- 1:29:28SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna take the Jags minus five in the first half.
- 1:29:32SPEAKER_02: Now hit me with your sixth pick.
- 1:29:35SPEAKER_00: Great mind, stick alike, staying with that same game.
- 1:29:39SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna take T Law over one and a half passing TDs.
- 1:29:43SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 1:29:44SPEAKER_00: It's it's a little worse on the odds.
- 1:29:46SPEAKER_00: I think it's at minus two ten right now, but it's one of probably one of the safest bets out there.
- 1:29:50SPEAKER_00: Um, I love Tutton, they just don't really give it too much in the red zone.
- 1:29:55SPEAKER_00: You guys have such explosive receivers on the outside that it'd be hard for you not to break off a big one, you know?
- 1:30:03SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 1:30:04SPEAKER_02: Uh my seventh pick, we we kind of talked about it a little bit.
- 1:30:08SPEAKER_02: Um the Patriots and the Dolphins.
- 1:30:10SPEAKER_02: I do think that the Dolphins have some peskiness to them.
- 1:30:13SPEAKER_02: Um, I think that their coach, I I like their coach, I like their GM.
- 1:30:19SPEAKER_02: Um I kind of just like the way that they they fight together.
- 1:30:23SPEAKER_02: Um, I don't think that they win this game, but I do think that they keep this close.
- 1:30:27SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna take the Dolphins plus seven at home against the Patriots in this game.
- 1:30:33SPEAKER_02: Uh, hit me with your seventh pick.
- 1:30:36SPEAKER_00: For pick number seven, stand with that same Colts and Jags game.
- 1:30:40SPEAKER_00: Um, I like the Jags secondary.
- 1:30:42SPEAKER_00: I think they've been playing pretty well this this year.
- 1:30:44SPEAKER_00: For that reason, I've got Jonathan Taylor over 63 and a half rushing.
- 1:30:49SPEAKER_00: He has been he's only had one game this year where he's been under 100 rushing yards.
- 1:30:54SPEAKER_00: So it seems very underplaced, in my opinion.
- 1:30:57SPEAKER_00: I've been watching this line all season.
- 1:30:59SPEAKER_00: It's always around this same number and he always exceeds it.
- 1:31:03SPEAKER_00: Um, so I'm going Jonathan Taylor over 63 and a half rushing.
- 1:31:07SPEAKER_02: Nice.
- 1:31:07SPEAKER_02: Um, my last pick, two teams that couldn't spell defense, much less play it.
- 1:31:14SPEAKER_02: That is the Dallas Cowboys and the Arizona Cardinals.
- 1:31:17SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna take the over here.
- 1:31:19SPEAKER_02: Um, I think there's a good chance that the Cowboys score in the high 30s in this game, um, which means we just need a couple Trey McBride catches in the end zone to get us the over 54 and a half.
- 1:31:30SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna take the over here.
- 1:31:32SPEAKER_02: I think that this could uh you know be a very close game in the first half, um, which also will help um lean towards the over.
- 1:31:40SPEAKER_02: So my last pick is gonna be the Cowboys Cardinals over 54 and a half.
- 1:31:45SPEAKER_02: What is your last pick?
- 1:31:48SPEAKER_00: My last pick of the day, sticking with some player props.
- 1:31:51SPEAKER_00: I'm a sucker for the player props.
- 1:31:53SPEAKER_00: Love my running backs.
- 1:31:54SPEAKER_00: I'm going with Kyron Williams over 58.5 rushing.
- 1:31:59SPEAKER_00: Um, seems a little low in my opinion.
- 1:32:01SPEAKER_00: Like I said, I don't think uh Matt Stafford and the Rams are gonna be one to try to drive that score up too much.
- 1:32:07SPEAKER_00: Um, and I think once they do get up early, which I do think they will, I think they put it on the ground and maybe even throw a little Blake Clawham in there, but Williams always gets his first, and I think they'll stick to that routine.
- 1:32:18SPEAKER_02: And you want to talk about a team that doesn't like getting punched in the face.
- 1:32:22SPEAKER_02: That's the that's the LA Chargers for sure.
- 1:32:25SPEAKER_02: So I definitely like that.
- 1:32:26SPEAKER_02: If the Rams are up in the first half, I could definitely see them leaning on the Chargers for the second half.
- 1:32:32SPEAKER_02: So to recap our picks, I am on Ravens plus three and a half, Lions minus three and a half, Bucks money line, Jets money line, Bears plus three, Jags minus five in the first half, dolphins plus seven, and the Cowboys Cardinals over 54.5.
- 1:32:51SPEAKER_02: DK's got the Cowboys minus six and a half, the Lions, Vikings over 46.5, Chiefs money line, Chargers plus six and a half, Bears money line, Trevor Lawrence over one and a half passing touchdowns, Jonathan Taylor over 63.5 rushing yards, and Kyron Williams over 58.5 rushing yards.
- 1:33:13SPEAKER_02: So, DK, we've tailed the tailgate, we've previewed the games, we've reacted to the results, but I gotta ask you the last question I ask everybody that comes into the tailgate.
- 1:33:25SPEAKER_02: Did you enjoy your time in the tailgate?
- 1:33:28SPEAKER_00: Oh, it's always a good time hanging out with old Cameron Clark.
- 1:33:32SPEAKER_00: It's always good to see you.
- 1:33:34SPEAKER_00: I know the viewers are listening to this, but we're on Zoom, so haven't seen you.
- 1:33:38SPEAKER_00: It's been what a little over a year and a half almost now.
- 1:33:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, over a year now.
- 1:33:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so it's always good to see you.
- 1:33:45SPEAKER_00: Good to see your face, good to hear your voice.
- 1:33:47SPEAKER_00: Loving what you're doing with the pod, obviously.
- 1:33:48SPEAKER_00: I'm one of your biggest supporters.
- 1:33:50SPEAKER_00: Waiting on that call for that managerial spot, you know.
- 1:33:54SPEAKER_02: Hey, it's it's cooking.
- 1:33:55SPEAKER_02: It's in the check is in the mail.
- 1:33:57SPEAKER_02: We just need it to get delivered, you know.
- 1:34:00SPEAKER_02: Awesome, awesome, man.
- 1:34:01SPEAKER_00: I appreciate you having me though.
- 1:34:02SPEAKER_00: Um, I know it's been took me a little while to get here, but nevertheless, I'll look forward to doing it again.
- 1:34:08SPEAKER_02: Awesome.
- 1:34:08SPEAKER_02: Well, I appreciate you.
- 1:34:09SPEAKER_02: It's good talking to you and good chopping it up, talking a little ball.
- 1:34:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, of course, man.
- 1:34:14SPEAKER_00: Talking to you now, and I'll be talking to you in five more minutes in the group chat.
- 1:34:17SPEAKER_00: So all right, man.
- 1:34:19SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 1:34:20SPEAKER_00: All right, man.
- 1:34:20SPEAKER_00: I'll see you, Cam.
- 1:34:22SPEAKER_00: Bye.
- 1:34:31SPEAKER_02: Well, that was great getting to go through our tail the tailgate picks, all of our week seven and week eight NFL thoughts and takes from me and DK.
- 1:34:41SPEAKER_02: Now it is time to wrap up our podcast for the day.
- 1:34:44SPEAKER_02: And as always, we have to give out our gold star of the week.
- 1:34:47SPEAKER_02: And my gold star of the week is going to the leading point scorer in the NBA so far this season, averaging 36 points per game.
- 1:34:55SPEAKER_02: I mentioned on the podcast yesterday that Luca, in their game against the Utah Jazz on Sunday, had 52, eight rebounds and 10 assists, just two rebounds shy of a 52-point triple-double.
- 1:35:07SPEAKER_02: And then he followed that up on Tuesday with another tremendous performance.
- 1:35:12SPEAKER_02: He had 41 points, albeit in the Lakers' first loss of the season to the Portland Trailblazers, but 41 points and nine more assists.
- 1:35:20SPEAKER_02: Just another fabulous game from Luka Doncic.
- 1:35:23SPEAKER_02: Great start to the season.
- 1:35:24SPEAKER_02: You are our gold star of the week so far, and our what to watch for on the college side, Florida, Georgia.
- 1:35:32SPEAKER_02: It's the world's largest outdoor cocktail party.
- 1:35:34SPEAKER_02: How would I recommend what to watch if it wasn't starting with the world's largest outdoor cocktail party?
- 1:35:40SPEAKER_02: And then on Sunday, we have a bevy of NFL games that are worth watching.
- 1:35:45SPEAKER_02: Ravens, Bills that we just talked about, Steelers, Browns that we just talked about, Vikings, Lions that we just talked about, Chiefs, Broncos that we just talked about.
- 1:35:55SPEAKER_02: And then if that's not enough Monday night football, we have another great game.
- 1:35:59SPEAKER_02: The Bears travel to Seattle for Bears Seahawks.
- 1:36:02SPEAKER_02: So a jam-packed weekend of sports.
- 1:36:05SPEAKER_02: The WNBA finals will be wrapping up by the next time I talk to you guys.
- 1:36:09SPEAKER_02: The World Series will be wrapped up by the next time I talk to you guys.
- 1:36:12SPEAKER_02: So as always, share, like, comment, subscribe.
- 1:36:16SPEAKER_02: Everywhere you get the Tailgate Cam podcast, please spread the word.
- 1:36:20SPEAKER_02: Send it to a friend, send it to a family member, anybody that you know that enjoys sports and wants to learn more about what's going on all around the sports landscape.
- 1:36:30SPEAKER_02: Please share this around.
- 1:36:32SPEAKER_02: As always, I am your host, Cameron Clark.
- 1:36:34SPEAKER_02: Thank you so much for listening.
- 1:36:35SPEAKER_02: Peace.
