- 0:18i'm a social media I don't want people to think
- 0:25that I get on the internet and start hating people
- 0:27on social media. That's not what I do. The first
- 0:29half was absolutely, absolutely horrible. You
- 0:33know, just inept offense, inept defense, special
- 0:37teams, you name it. I'm going to turn into Oprah.
- 0:40Why were you so angry? He sucks this season.
- 0:45This game, whatever, whatever's going on, right?
- 0:47And then in the very next pitch, guess what?
- 0:50They double Homer. And he's like, told you dad,
- 0:53why are you always knocking down people? Listen,
- 0:55you got the highs and the lows. Yeah, so I knew
- 0:58that. You need the highs and the lows. So I do
- 1:01that, yeah. I'm trying to be the voice of reason
- 1:04here. I am what I am. Hey, what's up, everybody?
- 1:21Welcome to another episode of Fanatically Speaking.
- 1:24I'm Kent, the co -host and promoter. I am Loggoth,
- 1:27the Loggoth legend, the hater of all things social
- 1:29media. I am the co -host and producer of the
- 1:31show. In today's episode, we're going to touch
- 1:35coaches. We mentioned it. Let's touch all on
- 1:38those coaches. No deal. We're going to get into
- 1:40coaches, the firings, who could be hired, all
- 1:43the openings in the NFL. We mentioned it in the
- 1:46last episode. We didn't get to it in that episode,
- 1:49so. ran out of time to this episode. But it's
- 1:54actually for the best, man. A lot of movement
- 1:56since then. Yeah. Big moves. Some things, some
- 2:00things we saw, some things we kinda foretold,
- 2:03and I gotta be honest, I mean, you could tell
- 2:05me if you disagree, but some of them I did not
- 2:07see coming. No, most of them I agreed, and a
- 2:13few I didn't. If you I didn't as well. Yeah,
- 2:16I agree with you But no man, I am I'm following
- 2:20your lead. All right, where do you want to start
- 2:22man? Yeah, so let's just go off right now Let's
- 2:25just name the teams that fire their head coaches
- 2:28or parted ways and have openings and As I named
- 2:34the team I'll tell you who they fired or parted
- 2:37ways with it's a nice way to say it The Baltimore
- 2:41Ravens will start we'll start big after 18 years,
- 2:46they have let John Harbaugh go. Not Mark Andrews,
- 2:52not Mark Andrews. Do you want to rattle these
- 2:53off one by, do you want to rattle these off one
- 2:55by one or do you want to go, okay, but I didn't
- 2:57know if you wanted to go name them out and then
- 3:00we go into it. Yeah, I'm gonna name them all
- 3:03and then we'll just hit on, we'll hit them all.
- 3:07Cool, let's go. Yeah, so Ravens, after 18 years,
- 3:10they let John Harbaugh go. The Atlanta Falcons.
- 3:14Let go of Raheem Morris earlier during the season
- 3:18the Tennessee Titans Brian Callahan The Arizona
- 3:23Cardinals your boy Jonathan Gannon got it the
- 3:27Las Vegas Raiders Let go of Pete Carroll after
- 3:30just one season The New York Giants also during
- 3:33the season let go of Brian Dayball and those
- 3:37stinky Cleveland Browns Got rid of Kevin Stefanski
- 3:44So those are all the openings I named the coaches
- 3:47And I don't know what would you like to get into
- 3:53first like what's the best What's gonna you know,
- 3:57like what's what? Let's just do this. How about
- 3:59what surprised you? Okay, so a couple of them
- 4:04surprised me but for different reasons the the
- 4:09Raheem Morris in Atlanta surprised me Yes, me
- 4:13too. And not necessarily because of, you know,
- 4:17the fact that they literally ended with the same
- 4:19record as two other teams in their division,
- 4:21but mainly the way they did it and how quickly
- 4:25they did it. It was like they couldn't even,
- 4:28they couldn't, I doubt, I don't think they let
- 4:31that dude leave the stadium before they fired
- 4:33him. Like it was like that game was over and
- 4:36it's like, yeah, let's get his ass out of here.
- 4:38I think he's demonstrated He's got a tenured
- 4:42career in the NFL as you know as a coach He he's
- 4:47well -read. He knows his stuff and clearly he
- 4:50could you know lead a team I just I just I didn't
- 4:54see it coming and I didn't like the way that
- 4:56the Falcons did it But I mean they are the Falcons,
- 4:59you know, I It left a bad taste in my mouth.
- 5:04I'm confident that he'll land somewhere else
- 5:06probably somewhere where he's a little, you know,
- 5:08more appreciated. And even if it's not a head
- 5:10coaching job, I could definitely see him being
- 5:13on someone's coaching staff. Um, hell, hopefully
- 5:16in the next couple of weeks, somebody will add
- 5:18them, pick them up and sign them. Yeah. Again,
- 5:22really surprised by this one. Didn't see it coming.
- 5:26I think he's been there two years, had them improving,
- 5:29trying to build a culture, trying to do something
- 5:32with that roster. And again, like you said, they're
- 5:36tied with the Bucs and the Panthers with the
- 5:38same record. They just happened to end up, you
- 5:41know, with third place. But you could see something
- 5:46there, but they had a little dysfunction with
- 5:48the quarterback situation. Again, they gave Kirk
- 5:51Cousins the moon and then drafted Michael Pennex
- 5:54Jr. So that's their first mistake after hiring
- 5:58Morris was, you know, doing that with the quarterbacks.
- 6:01Cuz if you're gonna give cousins the money, you
- 6:03should have gave that draft pick in a first round.
- 6:07You should have drafted somebody that could help
- 6:09your team in another place. Pinnix looks okay,
- 6:13he's still young, I don't know. They played pretty
- 6:15good with cousins, so it's hard to really gauge
- 6:17that with the team. But Raheem Morris, again,
- 6:20defense is his background. He had that defense
- 6:23rolling. They was playing way better at the end
- 6:27of the season, knocking off playoff teams. or
- 6:30potential playoff teams at times too. And again,
- 6:34like I said, it could wait. Sunday was, he got
- 6:36fired Sunday. Like you would think he'd coach
- 6:39the Raiders, you know? But as you said, is he
- 6:43gonna get another chance? Already Mr. Adam Schefter
- 6:47reporting that he's got interviews with the Cardinals,
- 6:51Giants, and Titans for head coaching jobs. And
- 6:57like you said, if he doesn't get one of those,
- 6:59There's a lot of spots for a defensive coordinator
- 7:02in the league now. So he'll land somewhere. I
- 7:06don't like it because, you know, he had a little
- 7:09bit of time in Tampa as a head coach, got his
- 7:12feet wet, got fired. It didn't go well. Then
- 7:16he went back to being a coordinator, built himself
- 7:18back up, got this job. And again, you hear all
- 7:22kinds of stuff every time these guys get fired.
- 7:23It's always like, oh, well, him and the quarterback
- 7:25or him and the players or this, that and the
- 7:27other. But it seemed like Like I said, he was
- 7:29on the up tick and I think he deserved more time
- 7:34than two years. So we'll see where he lands.
- 7:39I mean, like I said, that's three already. He's
- 7:40got interviews and hopefully they're serious
- 7:44about that. You know, the Giants, you can see
- 7:47New York and we'll get into them, but that's
- 7:49the name. Like normally you think big names.
- 7:55And just based off of this with Raheem Morris
- 7:57here, Titans. They got a pretty good defense,
- 8:00not too bad. They got obviously Cam Ward, so
- 8:03you can see some stuff there. Same for the Cardinals,
- 8:06they gotta figure out stuff at quarterback. But
- 8:10yeah, anyways, hopefully he gets another shot.
- 8:14And I'm assuming, what's another one that surprised
- 8:19you and maybe were the same here too? I mean,
- 8:24listen, I - I don't understand the rush to let
- 8:34go of a tenured, proven head coach. Stability
- 8:39is something that's very hard to find in the
- 8:41NFL. And it's interesting, because when we were
- 8:45recording the last episode, we actually got the
- 8:47text that John Harbaugh had been let go from
- 8:50the Ravens. And it was almost like, oh, about
- 8:55time he got let go. But the three years in a
- 9:00row, the reason why they got bounced out of the
- 9:02playoffs had nothing to do with coaching. Zero
- 9:05to do with coaching. It was just, you know, flimsy
- 9:08things that took place. One of them was a fumble.
- 9:11The other was the Andrews drop. And then obviously
- 9:14the Miss Field goal this year. That ain't gonna
- 9:16do a hardball. So it just, I was confused by
- 9:20it because... Stability is something that's so
- 9:23important. And the Ravens will be fine. They'll
- 9:25be able to go get another head coach. I don't
- 9:27know who they're going to be able to get that's
- 9:29better than Harbaugh and is more proven than
- 9:31Harbaugh. And that meshes well with their franchise
- 9:35MVP level quarterback and Lamar Jackson like
- 9:38Harbaugh. But it shocked me. And a lot of this
- 9:42is I think is just, you know, breath of fresh
- 9:44air, bring somebody new in, you know, just kind
- 9:47of mix things up and see what else you can do.
- 9:49Some examples that were kind of thrown out was
- 9:51like, you know, this is kind of reminiscent of
- 9:53Andy Reid leaving Philly. And then, you know,
- 9:57obviously he goes to Kansas City and has a whole
- 9:59new career where he just wins Super Bowls. So
- 10:03Harbaugh actually has the ability to do something
- 10:05like that. But, you know, for me, if I have that
- 10:11guy in my building, I don't want him to leave
- 10:13and go coach someone else. Especially when the
- 10:16issues and the gaffes that are taking place don't
- 10:18have to do with coaches. It's just horrible luck
- 10:20So yeah, man, it threw me off came out of nowhere
- 10:24and but I mean we all know this He's gonna get
- 10:28a great job. He's good. He is the top coaching
- 10:30candidate. That's on this list He will be able
- 10:33to pick whoever he wants. He will be able to
- 10:35pick when he starts he'll be able to pick whatever
- 10:37staff he wants and Teams will bend over backwards
- 10:42to get someone who is that stable? an energetic
- 10:45coach that can build a team up, he's gonna be
- 10:49fine. So on one hand, I'm very, very happy for
- 10:52him. And on the other hand, it just sucks to
- 10:54see him go out like that. Yeah, I would love
- 10:57to see who the Ravens get to replace them that
- 11:00they think can get them, at least this group,
- 11:05over the top and to that next level. I think
- 11:08that the knock probably on them is, I've heard
- 11:11like, using timeouts, not running Derrick Henry
- 11:14enough in certain situations. And again, you
- 11:18got this talented roster and you haven't got
- 11:21to that, you know, Super Bowl. Many AFC championship
- 11:26game, so I think that's probably the not. But
- 11:29again, like it's like Tomlin and Harbaugh always
- 11:32connected division rivals. Obviously, it came
- 11:36down to that game as well. I saw a funny meme
- 11:40that had the kick it had the goalpost, so it
- 11:43had, if it went through that kick, Tomlin's fired,
- 11:47and on the right and the left, Harbaugh's fired,
- 11:49so. Yeah, and that's the other thing that, and
- 11:53I'm sorry, I hate to cut you off, but that's
- 11:55the other thing that I hate about, just about
- 11:58sports culture in general, somebody's got to
- 12:01catch that bullet. It didn't matter. And Tomlin,
- 12:05and here's the thing, and we can... We can piece
- 12:08this together and you know, it's a little too
- 12:10late to do game play by play. But if you look
- 12:14at that game, both coaches did everything that
- 12:18they could to win those games. And it came down
- 12:21to one team making a kick and another team missing
- 12:24or making a kick to win or team having the opponent
- 12:28miss a kick for them to win. That's the part
- 12:31that just makes me so angry because we'd be doing
- 12:33the same thing to to Tomlin that we're doing
- 12:36the hardball right now and they would have got
- 12:37his ass. I'm pretty sure they would have got
- 12:38his ass out of Pittsburgh. You agree, right?
- 12:41I think it would have it would have heated up.
- 12:44Pittsburgh, you know, they conduct business different.
- 12:49You know, he I think he had like one year left
- 12:50anyways on his deal. Yeah, right. I mean, that
- 12:54game was crazy. It did come down to kicks. Obviously,
- 12:56Pittsburgh missed their extra point that made
- 12:59that kick even a possible game winner instead
- 13:01of a tie. And then, of course, Baltimore, they
- 13:05missed the kick. So and I don't think with hardball,
- 13:08it was so much about. This season again, I think
- 13:13it came down to other things that the past, you
- 13:16know, however, handful of seasons or again with
- 13:19this group, with the Lamar Jackson, with the
- 13:21weapons, with the team that he's had. Because
- 13:24again, let's let's be real, face it this year.
- 13:28They started off losing close games to good teams.
- 13:32Then Jackson got hurt. And when your quarterback's
- 13:34out, there's always a downfall. But then he brought,
- 13:38I mean, they still came back from what they started,
- 13:41one and five? And still almost made the playoffs
- 13:44and won the division. So yeah, again, John Harbaugh
- 13:48can coach. And like you said, he's gonna get
- 13:50a job wherever he wants. And I'm gonna get into
- 13:55more of that in a minute. when we get into openings
- 13:57and where he could land. But I don't want to
- 14:00do that right yet. Does that make sense? OK.
- 14:05Yeah, no, sounds good. That works. We'll get
- 14:09back to Harbaugh. So those were the two, right?
- 14:15We agree those were the two that surprised us.
- 14:17The other ones, I mean, not really shocked. And
- 14:21again, I could probably add a couple more names
- 14:23to the list that got fired. But they get to live
- 14:26to see another day in the NFL Coaching ranks
- 14:32unless something changes, you know during now
- 14:35between now and the Super Bowl Yeah, all right,
- 14:41so let's let's get into Which job is the best
- 14:48job of the openings right now Okay Out of the
- 14:59open head coaching positions, the thing that
- 15:03makes this difficult is you can answer that question
- 15:07in multiple ways. You can answer it as which
- 15:09one has the best potential. You can answer it
- 15:13as which one has the most longevity and which
- 15:18one you can win. Out of the box, you know what
- 15:21I mean? Obviously the one that you can win out
- 15:24of the box is probably gonna be Baltimore veteran
- 15:28team, you know Leaders you've got great players
- 15:32at the skilled positions and you can always go
- 15:35out and get more talent But out of all the jobs
- 15:39and this is probably gonna be a little Maybe
- 15:44be a little surprising When you got a team that's
- 15:48young with a lot of cap space and you still got
- 15:53a developing quarterback, I think you got to
- 15:56take that Tennessee Titan job. Number one overall
- 16:02pick, Cam Ward, we know, we saw what he did in
- 16:07Miami and he struggled this year, obviously got
- 16:11banged up and, but Tennessee, but Tennessee is
- 16:16a stable enough franchise. And the benefit is,
- 16:21is if you take that job, they'll give you three
- 16:24or four years to get them to a point where they
- 16:27can actually win and compete in that division.
- 16:30So for me, just kind of looking at all of them,
- 16:32that's the one that kind of stands out to me
- 16:34because they got a quarterback that they're going
- 16:36to stick with. Like he's gonna have to stink
- 16:39it up in order for them to get rid of them. But
- 16:41for me, yeah, man, I'm gonna go with a proven
- 16:45stud quarterback. that's going to take some time
- 16:48to develop, much like Trevor Lawrence. It took
- 16:50him a while for Trevor Lawrence to have this
- 16:52season that he's having this year, and he's had
- 16:54good years, but it sounds as if he actually got
- 16:57his groove now, and I think that's what's going
- 16:59to take place with Cam Ward. Yeah, I agree. I
- 17:03sent you the list of teams. Ravens, obviously,
- 17:06they're only a few pieces, but they have MVP
- 17:10quarterback, one of the greatest running backs.
- 17:14They just need a couple more pieces and but they're
- 17:17obviously always in contention for the playoffs
- 17:18in the division So that is an obvious and then
- 17:22when you get into the other ones again cap space
- 17:23is big And you're right. I think quarterback
- 17:28is key And if you look at all the teams You know
- 17:35they all You know Raiders have the top pick so
- 17:38they're going to draft a quarterback the Cardinals
- 17:42Kyler Murray Rumors that they may be done with
- 17:46him just like Miami's kind of done with two and
- 17:49I think two is done with them But again, yeah
- 17:52cam ward top pick in Tennessee obviously cap
- 17:55space 105 million Raiders gonna have the top
- 17:58pick a hundred million in cap space the Giants
- 18:01big market the got Jackson dart the got scataboo
- 18:05They got neighbors. They got a great defense
- 18:08Browns, yeah, I don't know Don't know if that
- 18:14that might be the worst job and I like Shador
- 18:16and I like you know, Miles Garrett's a beast
- 18:18They are in the negative at the moment So they've
- 18:22got moves to make to clear up and and need some
- 18:25pieces for that job and The Falcons we mentioned
- 18:29them earlier talking about Raheem Morris and
- 18:31they got Pinnix. They got cousins They're in
- 18:34the negative as well. So they got to figure out
- 18:36their cap space But here's what I also put into
- 18:43play here and Sometimes it works when I when
- 18:46I talk about this and think about when these
- 18:48coaching Vacancies come open I look and and I
- 18:51look at the now and I look at the division they're
- 18:53in how tough is it, right? Yeah, and I said that
- 18:57way when the Raiders got Pete Carroll and the
- 18:59editor pieces I'm like man, they got to play
- 19:00the Broncos. They got to play chargers. They
- 19:02gotta play chiefs. That's not a good hot. That's
- 19:04not a good job Now they got a lot of cap space
- 19:08gonna have their top pick. We've seen bad teams
- 19:10get built up When it's constructed right way
- 19:13and the head coach is like a Sean Payton in Denver
- 19:16You know a Bo Knicks and he built that team and
- 19:19they all now look at him win in the division
- 19:20So by the way, and by the way home and they got
- 19:23lucky because for for two years They were screwed
- 19:26after that Russell Wilson contract. So you're
- 19:29right. You're right Yeah, I mean like like it
- 19:30was so they got they I mean they caught a break
- 19:33They happened to get a cheap quarterback that
- 19:35they could still pay Russell Wilson the rest
- 19:38of his money He moved on And you know what I
- 19:41mean? Imagine the situation that they're in,
- 19:47it's a roll of the dice and it worked out. Because
- 19:50like you said, it's not going to happen with
- 19:52Miami and Tua. It's not going to happen in Cleveland
- 19:55with Deshaun Watson. So good for them. And they
- 19:58got the one seed with a bye. So yeah, the Lord
- 20:02blessed the Denver Broncos. They worked it out.
- 20:06They were in a spot, like you said, paying Russell
- 20:08Wilson to leave. Yeah, paying Russell Wilson
- 20:12to leave and kicking him out of his office. So
- 20:15I like your pick with the Titans because as good
- 20:20as the Texans are, as good as the Jags are, and
- 20:25the Colts are serviceable depending on, you know,
- 20:31that's a division. The AFC South is a division
- 20:34that the Titans could turn around and then compete.
- 20:38Like I said, the Texas Jags are really good this
- 20:40year. But again, with all that cap space, young
- 20:42quarterback, good defense, you know, decent,
- 20:45obviously can get built up. That's a good spot.
- 20:48The Giants, NFC East, always tough, but you know,
- 20:53they can compete. And it just takes the right
- 20:58coach. Again, coaching matters. But I look at
- 21:01like the Falcons. If there ever was a division,
- 21:06That you just need to tweak a little that team
- 21:09the Falcons could come back next year and win
- 21:11the division right It's they're all like even
- 21:16if there ever was an even division right now
- 21:19in football is that NFC South so They've got
- 21:22a lot of the pieces Yeah, we shall see Like I
- 21:29said, I agree I agree with that Titans that Raiders
- 21:33man is tough But if I had to make a decision
- 21:38Well, and not only this and and again hate to
- 21:41cut you off on that but the other thing about
- 21:43The the rate and I still want to call them the
- 21:46Oakland Raiders. God. I'm so old The thing about
- 21:49the Raiders is they'll get the number one pick
- 21:51They could always if I'm if I if I'm the Raiders
- 21:55man, I might trade that pick to go get me something
- 21:58That's a little more solid. I might put a package
- 22:01together, you know and and get me something that's
- 22:05stable. That's something that, I mean, Tom Brady's
- 22:10part of that ownership group now. So he's in
- 22:13the front office. He knows talent. I mean, he
- 22:16was essentially the de facto GM when he won his
- 22:18Super Bowl in Tampa. So I could see him putting
- 22:22things together to make that stuff work, but
- 22:24they don't have it right now. So I can't roll
- 22:26with them. And I know that the son of Al Davis,
- 22:32He's done a good job kind of staying on the side
- 22:35and hiring professionals to do the job, but I
- 22:39got to see it first. I have to put them on the
- 22:43shelf for now. If they make the moves, who knows?
- 22:45Maybe they could be a formidable team in the
- 22:47next two to three seasons. But right now, no,
- 22:49I just don't trust them. Having that number one
- 22:51pick is just not flashy to me. It don't mean
- 22:53nothing. Yeah. I mean, you got to hit it out
- 22:55of the park. That's that pressure. Yeah. You
- 22:59got to make sure there's a ... Fernando Mendoza,
- 23:02Dante Moore are the two names and they gotta
- 23:05get it right. But it's always good to start with
- 23:09that young quarterback and then have a veteran
- 23:11to teach or whatever they need. But they got
- 23:13100 million, so they need a lot of pieces. So
- 23:17hopefully they draft well, hopefully they spend
- 23:18their money right. Just to go opposite of you,
- 23:21I'm gonna go Falcon's job just because, again,
- 23:23the division. Not that I completely am sold on
- 23:29another season of Kirk Cousins and his cement
- 23:32feet. But or Michael Pinnix, you know, like he
- 23:37looks at times he looks good and then times he
- 23:40doesn't. So I'm not quite sure yet. He's not
- 23:43terrible. But again, it may see, you know, who
- 23:47who knows who they hire and can turn that around.
- 23:49But that's a that's a winnable division. Easy.
- 23:54Sounds good. All right, and we're just going
- 23:58to keep moving here. and get into, I'm gonna
- 24:03go back to John Harbaugh. Okay. At the moment.
- 24:13Where is the best spot for John Harbaugh? Since
- 24:18he's the top name, we went through the best job
- 24:22opening at the moment. But I will tell you this.
- 24:26Again, Adam Schefter reported 45 minutes after
- 24:29John Harbaugh was fired. His agent received calls
- 24:33from seven NFL teams. Now, there's seven openings.
- 24:39One of those are the Ravens. So I don't think
- 24:41the Ravens called. You know what I mean? Well,
- 24:45there was actually another report that came out
- 24:50not too long after that. Okay, that that that
- 24:54additional team was um, actually the jets Really
- 24:59that said that if you wanted that job That it
- 25:02was his And and and he and he politely declined
- 25:07Okay, I don't so that's so that so that's that
- 25:10extra team that was willing to let go of their
- 25:12head coach to bring Okay, I I had not seen that
- 25:15so that was the that took the not we're gonna
- 25:17still have fun with this because Yeah, because
- 25:20I was wondering, like, is it a team that, you
- 25:23know, sucked and decided to keep their coach,
- 25:26but now John Harbaugh's out there and it's like,
- 25:28uh, let me just call real quick. And, you know,
- 25:30and there's going to be other teams like that.
- 25:32And I think there's playoff teams like that.
- 25:34And that's where we can have fun with this. No,
- 25:46go ahead. Go ahead. So I was just going to say.
- 25:48I've got Two teams That say they get bounced
- 25:54in the first round in this wild -car weekend
- 25:58That they're gonna that they're they're gonna
- 26:01do their due diligence to check on Harbaugh before
- 26:04they pull the trigger on the firing But obviously
- 26:07there's always backdoor conversations. I Also
- 26:11think that John Harbaugh will not take a job
- 26:13until the playoffs Kind of dwindling down, you
- 26:16know, like a few round wild card divisional and
- 26:19then let's see, right? Let me see if any of these
- 26:23playoff teams fire their head coach I think he's
- 26:26got all the time in the world. I think most of
- 26:28these teams are gonna wait on them I think some
- 26:31of these teams. I don't think he would take the
- 26:34job. I Don't think he would take Cleveland. I
- 26:42Don't think you'd take Arizona just because the
- 26:46quarterback situation. I could see him taking
- 26:49all the other jobs. But I've got two teams, like
- 26:53I said. So can you, I'm gonna let you try to
- 26:58read my mind. What two teams? Well to me it's
- 27:01only one. Okay. Like to me it's only one. And
- 27:04it's Harbaugh, again, he is heavily coveted.
- 27:11and he can write any number down on a piece of
- 27:14paper, they'll match the number. He needs a team
- 27:20that has talent, but it still needs to be cultivated,
- 27:25maybe developed, maybe make some acquisitions,
- 27:27maybe make some trades. But to me, the only team
- 27:32that I could see him taking the head coaching
- 27:35job is the Giants. Out of the teams that are
- 27:40available, Is that what you're saying? Out of
- 27:45the teams that have head coaching vacancies,
- 27:50I see him going big and taking that Giants job.
- 27:55OK. OK, let's talk about that then. And then
- 28:00let's talk about the playoff teams that could
- 28:03get if they lose in the first in the wild card.
- 28:07So you think the Giants. I think that's a great
- 28:11spot. Obviously, like again, I look at again,
- 28:15they got a great defense. You think about those
- 28:18Ravens teams and their defenses. They obviously
- 28:21have a young quarterback who showed he can play.
- 28:25A great running game when when Scadaboo was in
- 28:27there and he was healthy. Again, weapons on offense
- 28:31with neighbors. They probably need like a lot
- 28:33offense, another offensive lineman, another receiver.
- 28:36There's just a few more pieces. They could be
- 28:38right there in battle in a really good division
- 28:42But at the same time yeah, so he's 63 so that's
- 28:49some more win now situation I Don't know that
- 28:54he would be a part of a rebuild You know Raiders
- 28:58with a rookie quarterback the same division as
- 29:03His brother and it's going to be a tough division
- 29:06no matter what who the Chiefs have Don't think
- 29:08they're just gonna be one and done this year.
- 29:10I think they'll bounce back It's again, I think
- 29:16it comes down to quarterback and and again what
- 29:18you and I like what you're saying there I like
- 29:21I like that Yeah, he's got to believe in the
- 29:24quarterback. So if he doesn't like say came Ward
- 29:27Titans could be a spot But yeah, I think the
- 29:30change of scenery to a big market like New York
- 29:33He he doesn't buckle under pressure He's used
- 29:38to it. He's a obviously he's been in the league
- 29:4018 years with the Ravens and and even before
- 29:42then I like your pick. I'm gonna agree with you
- 29:45out of the openings Yeah, the Giants is probably
- 29:48the best spot for him and and I have really kind
- 29:53of hate to take the wind out of your sails because
- 29:56Okay, you're trying to have fun with it saying,
- 29:59you know the playoff teams Oh, yeah, I think
- 30:03there's two But here's the thing, and we can
- 30:07still have fun with it, but I just want to say
- 30:09this, get it on wax. Okay. We both know that
- 30:18every NFL team is owned by billionaires, and
- 30:22the one thing that billionaires are, are impatient.
- 30:26They're going to do everything they can to have
- 30:29John Harbaugh signed within a matter of days.
- 30:32I don't think it's gonna take so long to where
- 30:35teams get bounced and then now all of a sudden
- 30:38they have an opportunity to go and sign a head
- 30:41coach. I don't think there's gonna be enough
- 30:45time. I think that the teams that are available,
- 30:48they're all in a race to go get the best candidate
- 30:51that's available right now. Now, other candidates
- 30:54may still come available to your point. If Tomlin
- 30:57gets embarrassed, man, they might let him go.
- 31:00Now that's another another coach that's out there,
- 31:03but in this in you know Six in one hand half
- 31:07dozen in the other who you do you think is better
- 31:09Harvara Tomlin? I'm not I don't want to make
- 31:11that a debate But I think we can say that they're
- 31:13at least comparable and out of all the coaches
- 31:16that are out there right now Those are the those
- 31:19are the two top coaches that would be available
- 31:22Just based on the rumor mill and teams would
- 31:24try to sign them lightning fast. So I There could
- 31:29be better jobs for him, but I just don't see
- 31:32this pool of desperate -ass NFL teams with Desperate
- 31:38-ass billionaire owners. I just don't see them
- 31:40letting him sit so long to let somebody else
- 31:43come and scoop them up Well, he's not gonna sit
- 31:46long they walk it's this weekend and like I said
- 31:50like behind closed doors and like you said agents
- 31:53and calls like that if the Jets are calling then
- 31:56these playoff teams are calling to again, before
- 31:59they pull the trick. They're making deals behind
- 32:02closed doors. I don't care what anybody says.
- 32:04So yeah, I mean, I'm just being honest. Like
- 32:07we've seen it. We'd be like, man, I can't believe
- 32:10they fired so -and -so. And then like the next
- 32:12day, hey guys, we hired this guy. They had the
- 32:15deal in place. They already knew. They knew who
- 32:17they wanted. Yeah. So two teams that I think
- 32:22in the playoffs that if they get bounced, Could
- 32:27go after Harbaugh could fire their head coach
- 32:29and that's the Green Bay Packers and the Buffalo
- 32:34Bills Okay, I did not see the bills all right,
- 32:40yeah, I do think again Yeah, like again no Chiefs
- 32:44in my homes. No Ravens and Lamar Who else is
- 32:48missing? The no burrow in the Bengals. I talked
- 32:52we talked about this when it came down to the
- 32:54Buffalo Bills and Josh Allen all his enemies,
- 32:59all his, you know, the ones that have held him
- 33:02back or given him the most, you know, trouble,
- 33:07toughest games in the playoffs, say whatever
- 33:09you want. It's mainly my homes, but Burrow got
- 33:11him. I think Burrow got him too. I can't remember
- 33:14now. But anyways, I think he did. Correct me
- 33:18if I'm wrong. But yeah, I think it, yeah, so
- 33:21McDermott, again, it's kind of like hardball.
- 33:23He ain't been there as long, but he's been there.
- 33:25and Buffalo's been right there, right there.
- 33:28This is their best shot. And I know we disagree
- 33:32on who's going to win that game. And I, and again,
- 33:34we're talking as if we're going to, you know,
- 33:37this will be after wild card, but I don't, I
- 33:46don't think, I don't think John Harbaugh makes
- 33:49the bills that much better. He's a better coach.
- 33:54for sure and But I don't see I don't see him
- 33:59being the thing that gets Josh Allen into Buffalo
- 34:02Bills over the hump if that makes any sense it
- 34:06what so it wasn't something that I thought about
- 34:08I wouldn't when I hear John Harbaugh, I think
- 34:12a Franchise that's flailing in the ocean and
- 34:17they need a life preserve to come to say they
- 34:20need someone to rescue them That's what I that's
- 34:22how I see hardball. I don't see Yeah, I just
- 34:27don't see teams that have success that have a
- 34:30foundation that need him to push them over the
- 34:32top I mean you can say whatever you want to about
- 34:35now the other thing that is intriguing is if
- 34:37he does go to the bills He's still right there
- 34:39in that same conferences as the Ravens. So I
- 34:43think that would be fun, but other than that
- 34:46like Yeah, I don't know. It doesn't move me a
- 34:50lot. It doesn't move me a lot Not necessarily
- 34:53does he make them better. I'm just saying I could
- 34:56see the Bills and the Packers after another Failed
- 35:01season failed playoff appearance Just saying,
- 35:06you know mate LaFleur some of his decision -making
- 35:09or they he didn't get it done even without Parsons
- 35:12They're still loaded on offense all these things
- 35:15and they lose to the Bears Even though it's on
- 35:19the road, same with the Bills. I just see those
- 35:25two teams, they could say, let me try to get
- 35:27a deal. And if Harbaugh's interested, then it's
- 35:30happening. But if not, then it's nothing, right?
- 35:34Then he can go on and pick out of the openings
- 35:36or he can go get a nice cushy TV job. We don't
- 35:40know what Harbaugh's gonna do. But yeah, those
- 35:44came to mind. I'm not saying the Bills are gonna
- 35:46fire McDermott. I'm not saying the Packers are
- 35:48gonna fire LaFleur. I could just see those two
- 35:50teams with a quick exit saying maybe there's
- 35:53time for a change. Let's see if Harbaugh's interested.
- 35:55And those two teams are ready to compete day
- 35:58one. And that's what I think would be intriguing
- 36:00for Harbaugh to not try to rebuild a team. Again,
- 36:03he's 63. It's not terribly old. But again, he's
- 36:06got 10 years at the most maybe to coach. So.
- 36:11Why not go for a team that's win now ready and
- 36:15the Ravens and Packers obviously playoff teams
- 36:17I mean the bills and the Packers are ready now
- 36:25and I think that could be something for him But
- 36:32again, we don't know what's gonna happen and
- 36:35again I do laugh at like, you know, if I think
- 36:37if I'm some of these other teams that didn't
- 36:38make the playoffs Would have called as well and
- 36:41checked like Miami like Tampa Who else Yeah,
- 36:48that's probably it Cincinnati, you know, I think
- 36:52I would have called man But I think the funniest
- 36:55thing like you mentioned like Tomlin could get
- 36:57ousted What else would be a greater? No, I don't
- 37:01and I said great I don't want Tom to get fired
- 37:03but just say he did and hardball took the stealer
- 37:05job. That'd be amazing I mean, yeah, I mean,
- 37:09that's a hell of a flip, you know, but, but also,
- 37:11but the other thing is, and this just goes to
- 37:14show, I mean, you mentioned, you mentioned Harbaugh's
- 37:18age. It's like, I knew that, but it didn't feel
- 37:21like it. I feel like he's a dude who's still
- 37:23in his fifties, you know, so, so I mean, yeah,
- 37:26I mean, so, you know, when, you know, the Steelers
- 37:28don't get rid of anybody. So as long as he has
- 37:31some success at all, he'll keep that job, like
- 37:33you said, for a decade, but typically they like
- 37:35to go younger. And they allowed Tomlin to kind
- 37:39of build this fantastic resume for one of the
- 37:43most storied franchises in all of sports with
- 37:45the Steelers. So, I mean, that would be crazy
- 37:47to see. And yeah, I mean, there's still a strong
- 37:51chance that he gets let go to depending on how
- 37:54things go in the playoffs. But yeah, I mean,
- 37:57at the second that remains to be seen. All right,
- 38:02so. Yeah, so that's Harbaugh. I just want to
- 38:04go through a couple of names real quick. Here's
- 38:09some guys that I found out, got the message today
- 38:13that they're interviewing. We mentioned Raheem
- 38:16Morris has three. Harbaugh can interview wherever
- 38:19he wants. Good ol' Mike McCarthy apparently is
- 38:25going to interview. He's going to interview with
- 38:29the New York football Giants. Jason Garrett's
- 38:33gonna interview with the Tennessee Titans. That's
- 38:37interesting. You hear some other names. Brian
- 38:43Flores, Joe Brady. I think another good one was
- 38:48Deion Sanders in Cleveland. I don't see that
- 38:52happening, but you wanna be relevant? I had not
- 39:01heard that. Damn, that makes my head hurt. I
- 39:05mean, why? It was, again, it's the internet.
- 39:09That sounds like something either some blogger
- 39:14made up or something that Dion's agent put out
- 39:18there. Yeah, it was kind of like someone trying
- 39:22to put it out there into the world. Cliff Kingsbury's
- 39:26name's been brought up. Of course, He's been
- 39:28a head coach in Arizona, so I don't know, you
- 39:32know. As other names that are out there, I think
- 39:36we kind of figured, you know. From this conversation,
- 39:40obviously Harbaugh is the big name. And and I
- 39:43think we. Of the openings, I think we agree that
- 39:46the New York Giants would be a great spot in
- 39:48the best spot for him. Throws him in the NFC.
- 39:54Away from his brother away from the Ravens, not
- 39:56that he cares. Again, I think Atlanta is a secret
- 40:00is kind of sneaky good spot. It just depends
- 40:04on what he wants man. He's gonna do his homework
- 40:06Like you said, he could be another Sean Payton
- 40:08take over a team that It doesn't look like it's
- 40:12a good outlook or give him a couple years and
- 40:14then all of a sudden he's got his quarterback
- 40:16He's got his defense. He's got everything he
- 40:18needs and all of a sudden he's back on top But
- 40:22yeah, man, I think that pretty I mean unless
- 40:25you got what else you got anything else on this
- 40:29Rob Markman Not really, man. I think you covered
- 40:33it well. When you get into so many of the hypotheticals,
- 40:38a lot gets kind of lost in the sauce. But yeah,
- 40:43I will say this, out of all the names that you
- 40:47mentioned, the one that was the most surprising
- 40:50to me that I was not expecting to hear and ...
- 40:55It's a double -edged sword, and I hate to be
- 40:57the guy to do this, but when Brian Flores' name
- 41:01was brought up, I cringed a little bit for a
- 41:05couple of reasons. One, because I don't know
- 41:07if you know this, do you know that he's still
- 41:09in the middle of that lawsuit with the Dolphins?
- 41:12With the Dolphins? The NFL? Yeah. No, no, no,
- 41:16no, no. With the Dolphins. With just the Dolphins.
- 41:21Correct. Hey, I do know he's there still pending
- 41:26litigation for that. Yeah, like that Yeah, that
- 41:29case is still open like there's still an investigation
- 41:31like all of that is still going through there's
- 41:34still lawyers It's still in the courts. That's
- 41:37the first thing and then the second thing is
- 41:40obviously with Flores I'm sitting there and I'm
- 41:43thinking like I Hadn't I hadn't heard or thought
- 41:46about him getting a serious head coaching offer
- 41:49Is this just them checking the box for the Rooney
- 41:52rule? That was where my mind went to those two
- 41:55places consecutively when you said his name Well,
- 41:59I mean, I'm not gonna go on a rant on the Rudy
- 42:01rule But you know the the teams you kind of know
- 42:07when teams interview people Certain guys and
- 42:12I'm like yet. They're not hiring him as the head
- 42:14coach I forget the name. I wish I could think
- 42:18about it last year the Patriots and I was just
- 42:20a again like we were you know talking about when
- 42:23you know your guy, you want your guy, you get
- 42:25your guy. Mike Vrabel was the top coaching candidate
- 42:28at Patriots, knew that's who they wanted. And
- 42:31like I said, I cannot remember who they interviewed.
- 42:35And I'm just like, yeah, they're checking a box.
- 42:38Cause we all know they're hiring Mike Vrabel.
- 42:42I mean, he wasn't even, like I said, I hate that
- 42:44I can't think of the name, but he wasn't even
- 42:46a head coach at the time. I don't even think
- 42:49he was a coordinator at the time. I mean, it
- 42:50was just kind of like a random, God and I'm just
- 42:55like come on man. Like come on, but Flores Just
- 42:59back to Flores though. I thought he did a good
- 43:02job in Miami. I think he got a raw deal in Miami
- 43:04I think he deserves another shot. I Think he's
- 43:09going to be a free agent even as a coordinator
- 43:12So another name it if he doesn't get a head coaching
- 43:15job, then he's gonna be a defensive coordinator
- 43:17somewhere But yeah, I think I think he deserves
- 43:22another chance. I mean, that's just me but Yeah,
- 43:27no, no, so so do I I mean, I mean again Miami
- 43:30is keeping you know, keeping gold rimmed glasses,
- 43:32but you know Brian Flores got kicked out after
- 43:36improving every year. So Go figure. Yeah every
- 43:41time All right, so I think we're I think we're
- 43:47done we'll see We'll see what happens with this.
- 43:51Obviously, this can be drug out sometimes with
- 43:54the playoffs and then waiting on coordinators.
- 43:57I know a few of them are interviewing the ones
- 44:00with the bye weeks. And yeah, let's see what
- 44:04comes out of this. I think next week, the next
- 44:08few weeks, it'll start heating up with the with
- 44:10the hirings and if there are any more firings.
- 44:15Yeah, it'll be interesting to see how things
- 44:17play out in the next few weeks and you know,
- 44:20maybe there are some names that we haven't thought
- 44:22about, you know, maybe some coaches that are
- 44:24in some different situations or maybe with all
- 44:28these shakeups, this is a lot of people just
- 44:31kind of sitting out there in the open market.
- 44:33Maybe teams use it as an opportunity to maybe
- 44:35get rid of a guy and bring somebody else a new
- 44:37win. So yeah, anything can happen over the next
- 44:39few weeks. So yeah, it'll be interesting to see.
- 44:43Every season. It's a coaching carousel. It's
- 44:49the sucky part of the business for guys. They
- 44:51lose their jobs. It gets posted everywhere that
- 44:53they got fired. But the good news is they get
- 44:58paid. Millions. They'll be okay and there's always
- 45:02another job or a cushy TV job. Or they go back
