- 0:01Genesis chapter 44. Let us pray, Our Father, who is
- 0:08in heaven, holy is your name, your Kingdom come, and your will
- 0:14be done here on this earth, just as it is there in heaven.
- 0:18Give us this day Our Daily Bread.
- 0:21Father, forgive us for our many trespasses, or as we forgive
- 0:27those who trespass against us, lead us not into temptation.
- 0:31God, deliver us from the evil one.
- 0:34For yours is the Kingdom and the power, the glory and the honor,
- 0:38forever and ever. And Jesus Christ is the way, the
- 0:42truth, and the life. It is only by Jesus Christ that
- 0:45we come in, Father, we just want to love on you and be loved by
- 0:50you. We want to see you, God.
- 0:52We want to see the world all around us the way that you do.
- 0:55We want to attach ourselves to you, God.
- 0:57You lead us by still waters. You protect us with your rod and
- 1:01your staff. Yes, though we go through the
- 1:03valley of the shadow of death. You're with us, God, and we only
- 1:07need you. We only want you.
- 1:09We only seek you, God. We don't seek vanity.
- 1:12We don't seek pride. We don't seek mammon.
- 1:14We don't seek position, God, we just seek your face.
- 1:19We want to see you, Father, we come in today through the blood
- 1:24of Jesus Christ. This speaks a better word.
- 1:26We put it on the lentil of our door.
- 1:28God, Passover us in the day of destruction.
- 1:31God, gird up our loins so that we are unashamed in your
- 1:34presence. Father, we love you.
- 1:37God, we love everything about you.
- 1:39Teach us your ways today. I decrease as you increase.
- 1:42It's all about King. Jesus is not about me.
- 1:46God, we just want you wreck us with your presence today.
- 1:51Holy Shekinah, glory all around us, Father, and it's in your
- 1:55mighty, powerful and precious name, Jesus Christ of Nazareth,
- 2:00the Messiah, the anointed, the long-awaited, the cornerstone
- 2:05that we pray today in your name, Amen.
- 2:13Let's start in verse one. And he commanded the steward of
- 2:21his house, saying, fill the men's sacks with food as much as
- 2:26they can carry, and put every man's money in his sack's mouth.
- 2:30So here Joseph is telling his steward, hey, fill up their
- 2:35sacks completely overflowing, so much so that they cannot carry.
- 2:41Give them back the first money, give them back their second
- 2:44money, load them down. And that's what God does for us
- 2:48in his house. There is no lack friends.
- 2:51He owns the cattle on 1000 hills.
- 2:54He put the oar in the earth that we base our currency off of.
- 2:57Do not get it twisted. Do not lose sight that
- 3:00everything is the Lord's. And if we will come up under the
- 3:04banner of the yoke of Jesus Christ, He's going to lead us
- 3:08friends. He's going to give us friends
- 3:11all that we could ever want and need and desire.
- 3:14Every desire of our heart is fulfilled in Jesus Christ.
- 3:18And he tells us to be content with food and clothing and do
- 3:22not go seeking after the same things that the world does.
- 3:27Verse 2 put my cup, the silver cup in the sack's mouth of the
- 3:32youngest and his corn money. And he did according to the word
- 3:38that Joseph had spoken. So you can see here that
- 3:42Joseph's steward is very obedient and he is very much
- 3:51trustworthy. And everything that Joseph tells
- 3:53him to do, he does it exactly, and he does it very
- 3:57conspicuously. And you can see here that it is
- 4:03beautiful, this relationship that he has with the steward,
- 4:07that the steward just does whatever he asks.
- 4:09And that is the same relationship that we should have
- 4:12with Jesus. We don't have to understand it,
- 4:14we don't need to know all the details.
- 4:16When Jesus Christ speaks, we move three.
- 4:21And as soon as the morning was light, the men were sent away,
- 4:24they and their donkeys. 4 And when they were gone out of the
- 4:29city, and they and not yet far off, Joseph said unto his
- 4:33steward, Up follow after the men, and when you do overtake
- 4:38them, say unto them, Why have you rewarded evil for good?
- 4:43So this was a set up. They were framed friends.
- 4:47Joseph told the steward to put his cup in Benjamin's sack, and
- 4:53then go and overtake them on their way back to Canaan, and
- 4:58ask them why they had repaid his good with evil by stealing the
- 5:04cup. 5 Is not this it in which my Lord drinks?
- 5:15And why indeed, and whereby indeed he divines you have done
- 5:22evil in so doing. So this divinity that the Bible
- 5:26speaks of is divination, friends, and it was practiced in
- 5:31the world of Egypt. If this was like fortune
- 5:35telling, trying to tell the future, and we do not know if
- 5:38Joseph actually practice this, but at the time God had not put
- 5:42any constraints against it. And there is such a limited
- 5:45power, friends, in the occult. It's very limited, but God's
- 5:50power is unlimited and overshadows any of the limited
- 5:53power that the world tries to turn their backs on God and go
- 5:58into this occult, demonic, satanic power of witchcraft,
- 6:05friends. And they're attracted to it, but
- 6:09they need to know that the source, the Creator who allows
- 6:13everything, friends, is much more powerful than anything they
- 6:17could ever experience in all of their charms and all of their
- 6:23divination and all of their witchcraft, occult practices.
- 6:27This New Age garbage that has sprung up in our day, in our
- 6:31hour. And God will not take second
- 6:34place to anybody. And He possesses all the power
- 6:37in the entire universe. And it's much better to be
- 6:40attached to Yahweh than any of the limited power that you find
- 6:44in false religion and in the occult friends. 6 And he
- 6:57overtook them, and he spoke unto them the same word. 7 And they
- 7:01said unto him, Why, says my Lord, these words, God forbid
- 7:07that your servants should do, according to this thing. 8
- 7:11Behold, the money which we found in our sacks mouths we brought
- 7:16again to you out of the land of Canaan.
- 7:19How then should we steal out of your Lord's house silver,
- 7:26silver, or gold? So here they're saying, far be
- 7:30it from us to act in the way that you are accusing us of.
- 7:35We would never do such a thing, and we are sure of it. 9 With
- 7:42whomsoever of your servants it be found, both let him die, and
- 7:49we also will be my Lord's bondsman.
- 7:52So he's saying, if anybody in our company, if any of the 11
- 7:56brothers have this cup that Joseph supposedly divinus from,
- 8:04let them die, and the rest of us will come back and be slaves. 10
- 8:10And he said, now also let it be according to your words, he with
- 8:18whom it is found shall be my servant, and you shall be
- 8:23blameless. He's saying, I'll let everyone
- 8:26else go, but the one in whom the cups found with will become a
- 8:34slave. And obviously this was a setup.
- 8:36Joseph had orchestrated it. And he's operating out of the
- 8:40wisdom of God. And God knows how far to push
- 8:44these men before they break, friends.
- 8:48And God does the same with us friends.
- 8:50He puts things on us friends, and they are designed to bring
- 8:56us to a place where we finally give up and we finally
- 9:02acknowledge His supremacy in our lives. 11 And they speedily took
- 9:08down every man's sack to the ground and opened every man his
- 9:13sack. So they knew they were innocent,
- 9:15they had done nothing wrong, they trusted each other, They
- 9:18knew that none of the other brothers would do this
- 9:21ridiculous crime. So they quickly got off of their
- 9:25donkeys and pulled their sacks down and opened them for the man
- 9:28to inspect. 12 And he searched, and he started at the oldest and
- 9:35left off at the youngest. And the cup was found in
- 9:39Benjamin's sack. No surprise there, friends.
- 9:43Benjamin did not take it, the brothers did not know about it.
- 9:47Joseph had planted it, and the steward knew exactly where to go
- 9:51to find it. 13 And they ripped their clothes, and they loaded
- 9:58every man his donkey and returned to the city.
- 10:02So you remember, he said, only with the one whom the cup is
- 10:06found will become the slave, but the other ones are free to go.
- 10:11But you can see that the brothers have had a change of
- 10:14heart ever since the time that they sold Joseph off into
- 10:18slavery. You can see here, they ripped
- 10:21their clothes, which was equal to someone who just died.
- 10:27And they're thinking about their father for the first time
- 10:29because when they sold Joseph off into slavery, they cared
- 10:33nothing for Jacob's feelings. And now, because something has
- 10:37happened to the youngest Benjamin, whom Jacob loved and
- 10:41doted over, you can see this radical change in the brothers
- 10:46hearts and minds and actions. And that is what Joseph wanted
- 10:50to see. And that is what God was after.
- 10:53He was showing all of them the change that has happened in
- 10:58every single one of them. And he's using all these events,
- 11:01the famine, he's using the position, he's using Benjamin,
- 11:07he's using all of it to get the most amount of glory.
- 11:11And he already told Abraham that they were going to go down into
- 11:15Egypt and be there for 400 years. 14 And Judah and his
- 11:24brothers came to Joseph's house, and he was yet there, and they
- 11:28fell before him on the ground. So again and again and again we
- 11:33see them bowing down, we see the sheaves bowing down to the one
- 11:39sheaf standing. 15 And Joseph said to them, What deed is this
- 11:48that you have done? Did you know?
- 11:50Did you not know that such a man as I can certainly divine?
- 11:5516 And Judah said, What shall we say to my Lord?
- 12:01What shall we speak? How shall we clear ourselves?
- 12:09God has found out the iniquity of your servants.
- 12:13Behold, we are my Lord's servants, both we and he also
- 12:20with whom the cup is found. So here Judas speaks up for the
- 12:24group, and he's going to give one of the most moving speeches
- 12:28in all the Word of God. Friends, you can see that there
- 12:32is a radical heart change for Judah, for the brothers, and we
- 12:36can see that the lion of the Messiah is going to come through
- 12:40the lion of Judah. We're going to get to see the
- 12:42lion roar right here. And the way up is down.
- 12:46And he makes himself humble and practices humility and shows the
- 12:50great strength that he possesses. 17 And he said, God
- 12:59forbid that I should do so, but the man in whose hand the cup is
- 13:04found, he shall be my servant. And As for you, get up in peace
- 13:10unto your father. So Joseph is saying, no, just
- 13:14little Benjamin, he'll stay here.
- 13:16You guys go on back to your father. 18 Then Judah came near
- 13:23to him and said, Oh my Lord, let your servant, I pray you speak a
- 13:30word in my Lord's ears, and let not thine anger burn against
- 13:36your servant, for you are even that's Pharaoh.
- 13:41So here Judah is going to wax eloquently, and he's giving this
- 13:47mysterious man. He's giving him all of the
- 13:50reverence and saying, You are even with Pharaoh, You're equal
- 13:56to Pharaoh. 19 My Lord asked his servants, saying, Have you a
- 14:02father or a brother? 20 And we said unto my Lord, We
- 14:07have a father, an old man, and a child of his old age, a little
- 14:11one, and his brother is dead, and he alone is left of his
- 14:16mother, and his father loves him. 21 And you said unto your
- 14:21servants, Bring them down unto me, that I may set my eyes upon
- 14:26him. 22 And we said unto my Lord, The lad cannot leave his
- 14:30father, for if he should leave his father, his father would
- 14:34die. 23 And you said unto your servants, except your youngest
- 14:40brother, come down with you, you shall see my face no more. 24
- 14:45And it came to pass, when we came up unto your servant, my
- 14:50father, we told him the words of my Lord. 25 And our father said,
- 14:56Go again, and buy us a little food. 26 And we said, We cannot
- 15:00go down. If our youngest brother be with
- 15:03us, then we will go down, for we may not see the man's face
- 15:07except our youngest brother be with us. 27 And your servant, my
- 15:12father said unto us, You know that my wife bore me two sons.
- 15:19So here he's going off on a tangent and he's telling Joseph,
- 15:23and he's reminding this mysterious man about all the
- 15:27conversation that they had in the first encounter.
- 15:31And he was the one, this mysterious man, IE Joseph, he
- 15:36was the one who drew the fact that they had a father and the
- 15:40fact that they had a younger brother out of them, and said
- 15:44that they could not do any more business with him unless the
- 15:47little Benjamin came down. He's reminding him of all of the
- 15:52events of the first encounter. And you can see here that Judah
- 15:57was very much knowledgeable of the fact and the sentiment that
- 16:03Jacob had towards Benjamin and Joseph because they were the two
- 16:09children of his beloved Rachel. And it seems as if Jacob only
- 16:14had one wife, even though he had Leah, Bildad, and Zilpah.
- 16:19And you can see here that the 12 tribes of Israel, the 12 sons,
- 16:24were born of these four women here.
- 16:27And you can see that in Jacob's mind, he only had Rachel, and he
- 16:32only cared about Benjamin, and he only cared about Joseph.
- 16:36And it must have been very hurtful unto Judah, but he's
- 16:39gotten over it. He's swallowed all of that.
- 16:43He's dealt with it, friends, and he is acknowledging it and he is
- 16:47actually talking about it to this mysterious man. 28 And the
- 16:55one went out from me, and I said, surely he is torn in
- 16:59pieces, and I saw him not since. So here Judah is talking to
- 17:04Joseph about Joseph. 29 And if you take this also from me, and
- 17:10mischief befall him, you shall bring down my Gray hairs with
- 17:14sorrow to the grave. 30 Now therefore, when I come to your
- 17:18servant, my father, and the lad, be not with us, seeing that his
- 17:22life is bound up in the lad's life. 31 And it shall come to
- 17:27pass, when he sees that the lad is not with us, that he will
- 17:31die, and your servants shall bring down the Gray hair of your
- 17:36servant, our father, with sorrow to the grave.
- 17:39So Judah was worried that if they returned back to Canaan and
- 17:42Benjamin was not with him, that Jacob would die on the spot of a
- 17:47broken heart. 32 For your servant became surety for the
- 17:53light unto my father, saying, If I bring him not unto thee, then
- 17:58I shall bear the blame to my father forever.
- 18:01So here Judah made a point to tell Joseph, the mysterious man,
- 18:07that he was a surety for little Benjamin.
- 18:10And that is what Jesus Christ does for you and for me.
- 18:13Jesus is our surety. He is the one who won our
- 18:17salvation. He is the one who gave.
- 18:20Give us the down payment of the Holy Spirit, friends, that we
- 18:23can know that we know that we know that we know that we will
- 18:26be in the Father's house. 33 Now therefore I pray that your
- 18:33servant abide instead of the lad of bondsman to my Lord, and the
- 18:37lad go up with his brothers. We'll end on 34.
- 18:41For how shall I go up to my father, and the lad be not with
- 18:47me, lest maybe I see the evil that shall come on my father.
- 18:55So Judah gives one of the most moving speeches in all the Word
- 19:00of God, and this is indicative of how Jesus Christ feels about
- 19:06every single one of his beloved. He goes and He is our
- 19:13intercessor, and He lives forever to make intercession for
- 19:17you and for me. And he tells the Father, this
- 19:20one is mine and he's going to bring us into the fold.
- 19:23Friends, I hope you've been blessed by this amazing chapter
- 19:26in God's Word. I know I sure have.
- 19:28I'm praying for every single one of you.
- 19:32I love you. We'll see you back here
- 19:35tomorrow. God bless you.
