- Podcast episode 28: Hey, it's Dex, creator of Reboot Player One and host at the Checkpoint. And today's question is. Today's question is an impossible question to ask. sorry. It's an impossible question to answer. But I'm going to give it a shot anyway. The question is, how do I find my purpose in life? How do I find my purpose in life? Okay. The only thing that I can contribute to that answer is to just try different things. That's pretty much about it. Whatever it is that you're doing now, if it if it's not if it's something that you feel isn't your purpose, then try other things. Now what those other things could be is entirely up to you. It could be things that other people have tried and they seem to think it's their purpose. So you can try and copy them. It could be something that you may have done in the past that you think you felt good about. You try that again. It could be something that is whatever it is you're doing now, but it might be slightly different. Try that. I don't think there is a single solitary answer and way to find out what your purpose is. But I do think that what I said is probably the one thing that you should be doing is just to try different things. If you don't try different things you're never gonna know. Because on top of that, you might try something that you think was your purpose and it not be that purpose. And so you dr you try something else and that's not it. And then you try half a dozen other things, only to find that what you have learnt in those six to seven things has led you to believe that what you did in the very beginning might actually be your purpose. So it's actually twofold. Trying different things means trying different things. You've not done it before, so try it out and see if it's part of your purpose. Is it helping people? Is it helping yourself? Is it writing? Is it researching? Is it helping kids? Is it helping the elderly? Is it helping people your age? I I don't know. Like do all of those things. That's the first part. And the second part is you'll start to discover things that definitely aren't your purpose. And so you might find that you might have already done your purpose. Thought it might not have been at the time, but realize that after doing all of these other things, that thing that you did before might actually be the purpose. The thing is as well The word purpose seems to be so definite and people like to live their life with that as their their moniker. My purpose is to help people. Okay, well well what people? Okay, my purpose is to help the elderly. All right. Doing what? help the elderly find jobs. Okay, how? or maybe do a resume, maybe have a look on Seek and and forums and and apply for them. okay, that that's your purpose. Well, I I think, you know, there's that sort of stuff there where it it it always seems to be something that sounds good and once you sort of drill down might not actually be a purpose at all. And what's not to say, this is the yang to the yin that I've been answering. What's not to say that your purpose in life is actually something to do with you and not to do with anybody else. But something to think about in there. What if your purpose in life is just to be happy? Maybe you've lived seventy years of your life living sad. And unhappy. Maybe the purpose is for you to live happy the remaining remaining years of your life. That could be a good purpose. Maybe your purpose is to start exercising, is to lose 50 kilos because you've been 150 for your entire life. Maybe that's your purpose. And in turn, you might motivate people, you know. I think sometimes people automatically think that a purpose in life has to be something outside of them. Where it could very much mean just the opposite. The purpose is entirely for you. Your purpose in in life could be to live the very best life that you can with what you have, with the utmost Happiness and enjoyment and pleasure that you can for you and no one else. That could be a purpose. Now I'm not saying that's going to be everyone's purpose, but it could be. So people put so much weight on that word. And in fact, you know, it might be a moot point anyway. Towards the end, you know, you sometimes things don't need clarification. Sometimes helping people is just part of you. Now, does it need to be a purpose? Do you need to actually give whatever it is that you're doing a name? Do you need to say to people, My purpose is to do this? Why not just do it? Why are people looking for purpose anyway? You know? Like it life is just so random that to even To even say that life is about one aspect, this purpose that you have or that you're wanting to work towards, I sometimes feel is reducing life in a way. Life is so life is so broad that to say to somebody, my entire life's purpose is to do this, I get it. It's our admirable. Admirable? Yeah, that's the word. You know, it's it's admirable for some people that can do that. But it's almost I think it could I think it could be wasting part of your life to to dedicate this look, if if that's just who you are, if you are so if you are what's the word I'm looking for? If you're fanatical about doing that, if you truly believe that your life has a single purpose and you devote your entire life to that, more power to you. But I also like to think that life is random, life is open, life is choice. And why can't you live a life without declaring a purpose? Why not do everything? Why not help people when you can help people? Why not be entirely selfish when you want to be entirely selfish? You know, you don't need to proclaim to anybody that you have a purpose. Sure, if you're selling courses on the internet or trying to join a community, i.e. me, you might want to say my purpose is to help as many people as I can. Sure, maybe. whether or not I choose to listen to my own advice on that, I'm not really sure. but at this point in time, I love doing it. I'm not gonna say it's my purpose. I just say I really find it fun and I think I'm pretty good at it. So how do you find your purpose? Try things out. On top of that, define purpose. Do you do you need a purpose? Do you want a purpose? Or do you just want to live life? Do you want to live life in a flexible way? You know? Just do things that make you feel good. Help people out when you can. But do you need to declare that as a purpose? I don't know. Anyway, if you've been asking yourself questions like that, we discuss this all the time.
