- Shamus: Hello everybody and welcome to another episode of the pork roll and cheese podcast. name is Seamus. Herbie: and I am the amazing Herbie. Shamus: And as always, it's good to have you with us. This show is sponsored by Big Bob's Wax Carrots. Big Bob's Wax Carrots. No carrot too big, no carrot too small. Big Bob waxes them all. For a free estimate, get a hold of Bob. And tell him that the boys from pork rolls sent you. Hey, Herb, I saw on. ⁓ Herbie: You want your carrot wax, they'll find you. Shamus: I think it was a Medford Business Association thing or something like that. Medford's got its own Comic Con thing. ⁓ word. ⁓ OK. Medford Con. It's well, it was the second. So for all you people that don't know, it was up at Binkley's up near Ahton. I think it's Stokes Road. Yeah. So. Herbie: It's all. ⁓ me likey. Shamus: I know you're a big comic book guy How did you get into it when you were a kid? Herbie: When I was a little kid, was like, growing up in the 70s, back in the day when I was a young little lad, used to be able to watch the old animated, I believe the 60s, Spider-Man TV show. was a cartoon one. So I really got into that. And I was able to grow up watching Adam West's Batman, and course, Linda Carter with Wonder Woman, because that was my first real crush still to this day. Linda Carter, I still love you for the rest of my life. Shamus: She probably, haven't seen her in a while, but she probably still looks. Herbie: ⁓ she's still... ⁓ yeah, she's breathtaking. Shamus: When she was in the original Super Troopers, when she was the governor, was like, whoo! Herbie: Ooh, wow. Yeah. Yeah. She still looks great, man. And then, ⁓ there was actually a live action TV show back in the day, like late seventies, early eighties, Spider-Man. So Spider-Man for me was like my superhero, you know, like I loved it. ⁓ Shamus: that dude I was just kind of like even then I was kind of like wow this is cra- Herbie: It was amazing. If you actually think about it though, that was actually the first episode that in that they actually delved on the the old clone arc of Spider-Man. So that was there was an episode where you know they got a hold of his blood and they cloned him. So that was like... ⁓ Shamus: Yeah, I remember enough. So I just remember looking at it now. I just kind of like, what? The roots look better than the shit he was. Herbie: Yeah, but there was so much more Oh Yeah, but like they even like the scene of them like crawling up the side of the walls and so like that there was so much money put into that feel like to make it look realistic that he's crawling literally crawling up the side of Buildings and stuff was just like awesome me I always always like the superheroes were like that mask and you didn't know What the person looked like so it's almost like that mask was like their persona or like what they actually looked like I always always thought that was cool Shamus: Well, that's what always screwed me up about soup like once you get old enough to realize your Superman is and the whole gimmick you're kind of like Nobody recognizes this dude Superman and glasses Herbie: Yeah, and Lex Luthor is like the most intelligent man in the world and he can't tell that the frickin news reporter Superman, I mean, Clark Kent isn't the son of Krypton Cali. Shamus: I always kind of like, man, that is not too many detectives walking around metropolis back then. Herbie: From what I understand I think if I'm correct like in the comic books now they kind of corrected that were basically his eyeglasses would actually project like a thing where people can So I was like this pretty cool and then it was also like another dynamic where he actually You don't really a Kryptonian actually doesn't look human at all and it's just like, you know Shamus: different face. Yeah. he'd been better off putting on the Groucho Marx fucking glasses with the big nose and the mustache. Herbie: Yeah, it's like big buff guy nerd guy glasses big buff guy nerd ⁓ superhero with a red cape no glasses Shamus: Well, those are the first three. Well, there was actually four. The first one I remember saying when I was a kid was Wonder Woman, obviously the Spider-Man TV. And then there was Hulk with Lou Ferrigno. And like that first Superman movie with Christopher Reeves came out. I even even then, like I was kind of like, yeah, but it wasn't until I seen, you know, the Spider-Man cartoon, the first one that came out and then. Herbie: ⁓ yeah, well yeah, I can't forget that. Shamus: It kind of transitioned to Spider-Man and his amazing friends. And then like the Justice League came out. That's when I kind of got hooked into the whole. Yeah. But I mean, like even the whole like when he used to turn into Hulk on a TV show like Luke, Frigna to me was I mean, I was like, ⁓ you guys gigantic. Yeah. And he's going to crush everything. Look at this. Herbie: Yeah, that was you Like well again like we're talking about the old TV shows were Warner women stuff like that I mean I got into comic books a little bit but of course I was I wanted more of the toys because you know when you're a kid you don't really want to read the comic books you just want to like play with the action figures and stuff but you know of course as you get older you get to see like you kind of still kept tabs on the comic books and like the little stories and then when they came out the you know Spider-Man's amazing friends kind of reinvigorated like the the comic book Lord and like you explain and You know, one in investing it more, you know, pick up the comic books and watch the cartoons and get the action figures and they have like the secret wars comic book back in the day. And that was fun to read and people were getting messed up and like, know, the what if like if everyone's on a planet, you know, good versus. Shamus: Those were some like like you said I had all the toys when I was a kid. and it was actually kind of cool because they were all Generally a caction figures were like the same size back then yeah, yeah I chose and stuff so like you would have like the Justice League and GI Joe Oh, yeah, Cobra and the bad guys. Yeah, so I always had all kinds of crossover shit going on in my house But um, like you said once I got old enough I realized what comic books were me my all the kids in the neighborhood all the dudes in the neighborhood so they collect in comics and and It's amazing. Like when you said Secret Wars, which ultimately is coming up in the movies, ⁓ you totally like that was a great run. The Infinity Gauntlet, the original Fini Gauntlet. That was a great run. Yeah, like I don't know if you remember this, like a lot of the villains got together in the Marvel universe and they're like, hey, I like, for instance, like the Green Goblin was like, I've been fighting Spider-Man for 40 years. Yeah. How about if we switch and like ⁓ Daredevil like Herbie: A lot darker than most. Shamus: Bullseye is his art's nemesis was like, OK, I'll take Spider-Man and you go fuck with Daredevil. That was pretty cool. Then obviously Iron Man had to die. Comic books were pretty good back then. I I kind of got away from him. Yeah, I was thinking about going back. I like to research it, but I mean. Like you said, it's kind of intimidating now because back in the day it was just like, OK, if Spider-Man was the amazing Spider-Man web of Spider-Man Spectacular Spider-Man, ⁓ there was another one. And then there was, you know, Spider-Man 2099. And then, of course, there was Peter Porker. Yeah. But that was it. Now, like when you go to the Spider-Man section, you're just like. ⁓ Herbie: You're completely lost it there's so many The Ben Reilly series ⁓ yeah, well you think about man like you know back then the comic books they had to come up with a new story like every month Yeah, you know so they were doing that for like years so there was always like the ⁓ you know the expansion of all like storylines the what-ifs You know the different alternate you know multiverses and stuff like that Shamus: What if was always my favorite? ⁓ yeah. Herbie: And they even have like for DC and stuff, but like, like after a little while, like I got, I started getting back into comic books for me, like maybe late eighties, like maybe like sixth and seventh grade. ⁓ I think probably like back then it was like, I had more access to comic books. So that's probably how I got back into it. And friends of mine, they, they actually had like an old, camper. like in the backyard. that was basically like the boys club hangout type thing. So that was actually the comic book Mecca, man. I'm like, it was just like four or five kids that had a huge comic book collection. And it was just like the Fort Knox of comic books for dudes in the neighborhood. So there was just like comic books in the fricking drawers, comic, comic books everywhere in this little like a camper. And they had this huge, huge poster in the back and it just had like Like the multi characters of all in the Marvel comic books and stuff. that act with hanging out with them definitely got me back into like all the comic book stories. And then they came out with the comic books were like, it was just a comic book of like a encyclopedia of that, like certain characters from a to Z, like their origin stories or superpowers, what they could do all that. Yeah. Yeah. That was cool too. Like how they died and stuff. Cause like even back in the day, the comic books, they didn't really have too many like. Shamus: It was like an encyclopedia. also had one on the dead guy. Herbie: deaths and stuff like that. like in the eighties, it kind of got a little bit more aggressive with like people dying. Cause I remember like, you know, in the sixties and seventies, the comics would have like, you know, just everyone beat each other up. And then in the middle of the comic book would actually be like the hostess cupcakes, little like, and like, you know, the Hulk's fighting somebody for a hostess cupcake. So it was more like the wholesome thing and you know, the, ⁓ the moral of the story thing and like, you know, just a moral compass, which was always really cool to like, you know, show kids like how to, how to behave and how to, how to act and how to solve problems, how to do stuff like that. And I just transferred into like the, GI Joe cartoon. ⁓ my God. Yeah. When optimist prime died, everyone's like, yo, what the. Yeah. Shamus: than the Transformer movies fucked ever. Herbie: I was devastated. I'm like, how the hell are you going to have that stuff like in the comic, like the cartoon series, like you rush home from after school and you get ready and you watch, you know, Optimus Prime and everybody and they're all blasting each other with the laser guns like, ⁓ my optic sensors are destabilized. And then you just go to that one movie and the first five minutes, everyone's getting clipped by Megatron and like smoke and oil and stuff pouring out of their mouths and Optimus Prime dies, and he's like, two-O-R-one. And it's... ⁓ my God, was... It's... Shamus: I'll tell you what, it led to a lot of great stuff. I think it was a little bit later. I was more of a like I'd love the storyline on certain things. Yeah, like I couldn't just read a comic book unless it had a storyline like the Armour Wars and Iron Man or Secret Wars. Yeah. But like the killing joke. Yeah, like when Robin. ⁓ And I that was a great run. ⁓ Herbie: Great stories, by the way. ⁓ yeah. ⁓ Shamus: And then you had, you know, the suit, the whole lead up to super band dying When he fought, who was that? Doomsday? ⁓ Yeah. So I it kind of got to a point where it was almost like grass on me. Hey, we're not going to. The good guy doesn't always win. It's like tragic shit happens. It's time to start. So when it started getting dark again, like towards the end, I was like, well, my collection, I was like, wow, this is really and somebody artwork like who's a top McFarland. Herbie: Was that you? Yeah Shamus: A lot of the Spider-Man stuff and then whoever did the killing joke Yeah, amazing. Herbie: Yeah, and then they all broke away, started doing their own like image comics and all that. And that's how like, you know, you got Robert Kirkman with The Walk of Dead. Like there are all these new comic books that came out that they were more adult oriented. was definitely superheroes, but it was like darker, more serious. Yeah, correct. I mean, even with the Jason Todd thing with the, you know, where Robin dies, I was a Jason Todd one. And that was actually a feature where the fans themselves got to vote. Shamus: Nick Farland started Spawn, right? Yeah, I mean, he was pretty dope. Herbie: to see if Jason Todd. Oh, wow. Yeah, I didn't know that. Yeah, because people people hated the new Robin because like when when you know Dick Grayson became Darkwing, they were like, oh, who the hell is it like this new Jason Todd kid? And I didn't know that. Yeah. So they actually it was back in the day when you actually had to write like, you know, it right into the comic book company and send a mail, not like email or text them. Shamus: You just go and click yes or no on your Facebook post. Herbie: They just frickin yeah, they voted him dead Shamus: I didn't know that. I always thought like the Robin character. I was like, he's a bad ass dude. He doesn't need a sidekick. Herbie: Yeah, had to ramp it up, especially with Batman. When you grow up with a TV show, know, like Robin's like, great Scott, whatever the hell. Shamus: Holy razor batman, that was a close shave Herbie: And like Batman was always, you know, he was cool, but I didn't like his costume too much because like you can kind of tell like, you know, the bottom of it was you could see his mouth and all that stuff. It just seemed like he was more human where Spiderman was like, you didn't know what the hell he looked like. Like Spiderman looked like Spiderman in the costume. So it was just like a whole different new person. Wasn't even like. Shamus: It was almost like the Clark Kent thing. Yeah. Herbie: For me, I didn't even consider him human. You know what mean? Because he just looked like something completely different, where Batman had the cool cowl and everything, but you have like the, you know, his mouth and you know, like that's just a dude in a costume. Shamus: I just never thought that it like leading into like we talked about the early stuff like with the Spider-Man TV show and Frank knows getting up into like 89 when Michael Keaton's Batman came that dude doesn't need a Robin bro. ⁓ He might be to me might be second to I'll give you my first later. It's gonna blow a of people's mind. But ⁓ Herbie: ⁓ yeah. Yeah, he didn't. didn't. He great job at that, Shamus: I well, the casting for that him and Nicholson together were amazing. Like Jack Nicholson was I know he was more of the comic booky kind of joker But I mean, I thought he was amazing in ⁓ it. never thought he'd like when they introduced what was Robin the three forever or something like that. But that was one with Clooney, right? It was him. And ⁓ I know it Chris O'Donnell was. Herbie: Wow. Val Kilmer had that one and there was a Batman with the Val Kilmer and also the one with Clooney. Shamus: I forget which one Robin was in. But I think they were both, right? And then Alicia Silverstone was in the fourth one. Herbie: both. and that was just like a big i mean she was hopping that was a big debacle i was like you know with yeah i think yeah gave him nips and all that i was like ⁓ jeez Shamus: That was a mess. That was Schumacher, wasn't it? But uh, yeah, it kind of I think I've seen part two and I don't I know I seen three and four but I never Herbie: Well, Batman 2 definitely had the Penguin, Danny DeVito and ⁓ what's her face as Catwoman? Yeah, Michelle Pfeiffer. That was a good one-two combo. You know what mean? And then they started getting extra with the extra new, you know, Val Kilmer I think came out after that. And that's when there was the Robin with Alicia's, know, Silverstone. then of course they had. Shamus: ⁓ shot the Pfeiffer one? Yeah. Do you remember that? Of course, Jim Carrey played a great Redwood. Herbie: Yeah, that was Tommy Lee Jones did a good pretty good job with two face, even though he hated working with Jim Carrey. Shamus: I can see that. Because you know, Tommy Lee Jones is the kind of guy to tell you a joke and it could be hysterical, but he just doesn't give you any emotion. Yeah. Jim Carrey is probably a nut. Herbie: ⁓ yeah, just running all over the place because he was just like super goofy. So he probably just didn't take him seriously whatsoever. Shamus: And then there was the last one. was Schwarzenegger was this Dr. Free. ⁓ And he was the only one right. Poison eyes. Bane makes an appearance, but it's nothing. Herbie: Yeah, Uma Thurman was an IV and then one of the wrestlers or something like that. I mean, that one was like a watch like once or twice and I'm like, I am good. Shamus: Yeah, I think I've seen them like once or twice. But I like the first one with Keaton and Nicholson was amazing. Yeah. And I kind of and I know we talked about this before, but ⁓ that's when I kind of thought like, OK, here we go. You know, Christopher Reed has his own Superman. And that kind of died. And then when, you know, eighty nine Michael Keaton did Batman, I was like, I'm a superhero movies will start taking off. And it didn't. ⁓ Herbie: ⁓ ⁓ That's almost like cuz like those two guys were DC characters so like that and then I wrote like a lot of the people I know when I was like, you know that age I was like, ⁓ they got it to a Marvel one Shamus: Well, I mean, and that's what I thought. I figured, OK, here they come, you know, with the success from Batman and they did not because it was massive. They're going to do Spider-Man. They're going to do Iron Man, ⁓ which I'm glad they didn't because technology I don't think it was ready for at least Iron Man. Herbie: I wasn't ready yet. Yeah. ⁓ Definitely. Spider-Man too, man, because like all that agility and jumping around and all that stuff. Shamus: Well, it wasn't too far after that. was, um, what was it? 2002 or three when Toby Maguire Spider-Man came. Herbie: But around that time, everything was already, technology was there, so the CGI was there. X-Men was doing okay, but everyone was just starving for Marvel-type stuff. Shamus: But one thing they did wouldn't. Like they just kind of they I don't know why Hollywood does this all the time, When I found out that Spider-Man's villain in the Tobey Maguire first one was going to be the Green Goblin, I was ecstatic because that was my favorite villain of all time. Yeah, you know, I couldn't wait to see what he was going to look like. I that, you know, what's his face? William DeFoe would be a great Norman Osborn. Yeah, I'm like, this is going to be awesome. ⁓ And then saw the suit. And I was like, what the fuck is that? It's it's the green Power Ranger with an Iron Man helmet. Like, what the hell is this? Yeah. Like, I don't know why they just didn't go with the traditional like the mask with the purple. It was like this dude's one big green booger with yellow flying around like this is some bullshit. And I don't know why Hollywood does that. Herbie: Yeah, the big cape. Well, I think they tried going with an idea kind of like that, like a happy medium. But yeah, there's a lot of movies that literally for comic book fans will just disinterest them if they're not like comic book accurate. And I think that's another what took away from the old X-Men with Hugh Jackman and all that. They had a great cast, but they just had these black leather outfits and it wasn't nowhere near anything looking to the original X-Men costumes. And I think that's another reason where... Deadpool took off like crazy because comic book accurate outfit, you know, it like everything was comic book accurate. if, if, if you got a lot of fans that are in the comic books and they want accuracy and you give them something different, it's just, it's just like, God. Shamus: I was pissed. Yeah, they kind of self-correct. ⁓ well, they corrected it in part two because I thought Doc Ock Yeah was spot-on. That's exactly how I pictured him in the comic books other stuff like that ⁓ I thought that was very well done. Yeah, and then they went right back and The Sandman's character was awesome. Yeah Herbie: Jacked up venom. Shamus: How can you put the dude from the 70s show in a venom suit and make him this it was like the venom suit took over a chihuahua ⁓ Like I was just like dude then I'm supposed to be this hulking ass monster Yeah, that just eats people and and here we have 125 pound venom running around and screeching like a goddamn squirrel got his balls cut. Yeah, you know, I come home Herbie: I know they dropped the ball Shamus: And I was like, thank God this series, because they said they weren't doing four. And I was like, thank God. And this is they had Toby McGuire dancing around like, yeah, I'm like, this Herbie: It's like around that time because like all they had all these different comic books were like Peter Parker can actually make his own way You know was like it was organic web is from him So they they try to integrate like those comic books around that time with the movie. Yeah, I mean, but it's just sometimes like It was like, you can actually make it. But that was actually in one of the comic book series to know that he was like organic webbing. But they just completely dropped the ball with the original origin of the black suit Spider-Man, because it started in secret wars that comic book series we're talking about. Yeah. Yeah, it was actually on Battle World, whatever, like against when Beyond created the battle world. Yep. I was like, crap. Shamus: that up in space. Well, thank God, because right around that time, that's when they announced Iron Man. Yeah. And I was just like, you know, fuck are they going to get? Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: They couldn't have picked anybody better to play Tony Stark because in the comic books, he was a drunk. He was a recovering alcohol. He was that eccentric and that guy who just a playboy. He loved to go out and party and did it. And then, you know, got sober. I mean, way after he was Iron Man. But when they had Robert Downey Jr. Do it and I saw the first one, I was just like, Oh, yeah, this is the best goddamn superhero movie. Herbie: ⁓ man. Plus they the technology too, man. it's just like the special effects. Shamus: ⁓ visually, like when he's flying over to wherever to take care of the three rings. and like the jet pulls up behind him. I'm like, dude, I because I like we talked about one of the podcasts. I love going fast, man. I would love to be in that suit, bro. Just like three. And was like, man, this is the best soup. And me and my brother always argue because he was like, ⁓ the original Superman Christopher Reeve. I'm like, listen, I get the whole sentimental value. That's. ⁓ But Iron Man to me was like the best. And then they were like, And now we're going to stick around for the credits like you're going to see some other shit. I was like, all right, this is what I thought was going to happen back in 89 with Michael Keaton or at least back in 2002 with Tobey Maguire. But like you said, the ratings thing was there because Sony owned the rights to Spider-Man. Herbie: Yeah, that was a big thing too, man. All the different companies had own rights to certain characters so they couldn't bring shit together. ⁓ Shamus: Iron Man was a Hail Mary because Marvel was in the dump. They owed like millions of dollars. And if that wouldn't have worked out, they'd have been comic books. Probably no more. Yeah. At least from Marvel, like all them characters would have been sold off. And but yeah, I was like, man, here we go. And then, you know, Captain America, the first soldier, you know, I think that's what it was called. Right. The Avenger. I dropped and they did that pretty good. Yes. That's how he got the secret terminal. Herbie: Yeah. Yeah, the first one. He did the Winter Soldier. That was like, shh. Good shit. I did like the original Superman. still have a warm feeling for that. And I do love Superman, too, because he's like against the three villain Kryptonians, like General Zod and them. He loved it. I still don't get the goddamn when he pulled that fricking ass off his chest. was like that. I don't know, like. It's like plastic wrap or some crap was like a big plastic wrap. It was it really was a shrinkage, and it was just like, what the hell was that? Shamus: Yeah. look like the Shrinky Dick ride shit. Mylar, like the balloons and stuff. Herbie: What the fuck but just that just like him fighting them in in in the city was like cool shit But you know, they're like you pretty much go with what you get, you know, you know Shamus: It's like, it's you just at the time this is what we have visually. This what we can do. Yeah. I do like those movies, but I was more of a I when I started collecting comic books when I was a kid, it was always Spider-Man and I that was it. I never collected Thor. I never collected the Avengers. I knew because there would be crossovers and stuff or, know, like when Secret Wars kicked off, they were all in that infinity gauntlet. So you knew who they were, but I just didn't buy them. Yeah. Herbie: Yeah, you knew well, but never collect those Shamus: Because I only had a certain amount of lunch money I saved up that week. it was always Spider-Man and Iron Man. But then when they started, you know, Captain America and here comes Thor and then like that Ferdis Avengers movie, I was like, yep, hooked. Yeah, this is awesome. Herbie: Yeah, they revamping everything and just... Shamus: And they had a good run to and then once end game came out and certain people got all like when Tony was just like, I admire and hit that snap. And I was like, ⁓ Herbie: That got people free. Shamus: I don't cry too many movies, but I was like, not my boy. ⁓ Herbie: Man. Yeah, man, after like the first one, people were just freaking out because everyone I mean, they have to cast got wiped out with the snap. That's actually I think probably that movie is kind of like us in the 80s, like the Transformers movie when Optimus Prime died, like, you you walked out of the movie theater, you're like, what the fuck just happened? Like the good guys fucking lost. They're like, how the hell are they going to come back with this shit? Shamus: I was like... Well, you kind of knew because they said it was going to be two parts. So like after the snap and shit and you see I was just like, yeah, they're coming back when who the hell plays Spider-Man now with that kid's name. ⁓ Herbie: ⁓ Jesus Christ, it's a shame because I love it. Shamus: And when he's like, looks at Tony Stark, he's like, don't let me go. Don't let Herbie: I'm like, Spider-Man too? Like, Jesus Christ. Shamus: was like, he'll be back though. Herbie: Yeah, but the original comic books, like, I mean, like in that series, like the deaths that Thanos does to these people is just horrifying. Jesus Christ. I mean, he went off light with the snap thing and even like the storyline that, you know, he wanted to like preserve half of the universe. No, he was in the comic books. He was actually he was he fell in love with the entity of death. So he was doing this to court her. He was like killing as many people as he killed his own mother, killed his own, you know, killed everybody. Just a quarter, but he's not making selling. He's a nice guy, but that's really gonna be hard to market that for a little Shamus: It's high billion dollar franchise. yeah. Based off the back of little kids, man. Herbie: Oh yeah, dude. And parents that grew up with it too. So you know everyone's rushing out to go see the movie like, oh my God, I got to see this. And it actually got like new fans. Cause you know, sometimes when you watch those, like everyone's like, oh my God, I didn't know about these characters and being geeks from like day one. Yeah, it's been around for a long time, man. Shamus: Yeah, I was going to say, think you mentioned this before, like a lot of people are just like, holy moly, how do I not know? I'm like, yeah, comics have been around since like 1930s. Yeah. I mean, like forever. Herbie: I mean, like even World War Two, you know, Captain America was like, the soldiers were reading Captain America, but him beating up Adolf Hitler and. Shamus: Nazis up. Yeah, but ⁓ yeah, man, I was just like after endgame. No, I was like Like I still ain't right with it. Yeah, I was like, man I can't go back and I haven't been to a Marvel movie since I haven't seen a Marvel movies. No, I can't say that I did go see the next one that came after was the spider-man movie where he fought Yeah, the stereo. Yeah, but I haven't been back since Tom Holland, that's a spider-man Herbie: Tom Holland. Hey, actually, like, he plays a great. Andrew Garfield as part of it, but he was just like kind of too cool to be a nerdy Peter Parker. Toby Maguire fit it good. Oh, yeah, that was that was the yeah, the whole. Shamus: I think it's very, very good. I'm just glad they bought them all back. That shit was awesome. Yeah. Yeah. It's like when they open up that portal thing and everybody's like, ⁓ Spider-Man. Yeah. He goes walking over and he was like, you're not How do you think? And then when old as Toby McGuire walks out. Yeah. ⁓ Herbie: I'm Peter Parker. The new Venom was pretty good. was just like, of course you have to change the story. Shamus: I that visually. that's what Benham was supposed to be. Yeah. And I thought I'd pick him. What's his face? ⁓ Tom Hardy. Yeah, was perfect. Herbie: Tom Hardy's a great actor, dude. I remember he was in Band of Brothers for like a hot second. Shamus: He's in everything. Yeah. What's that? Peaky blinders. Yeah. And he was in that other English shit. I forget what it was called. But yeah, he's in everything. But that's exactly what venom should look like. Yeah. And the fact that they talk to each other. ⁓ I love one thing I do love about the comic book movies is like the humor side of it. Yeah. Like in the first one of the first Avengers movie for the fight in New York and like. Thor and hawk don't get along and they took that big ass thing down thor was like and Herbie: See that that that humor was great, but like when it went to like extra like with the love of thunder and I was like, I mean, it's funny. It was another big hit, the Guardians of the Galaxy. So like they had some funny comic book stuff in it, But like after a while, sometimes like you go extra with the other, you know, Thor's not really supposed to be a funny guy. mean, he can have some funny moments, but it was more, I don't know. I was like, it's a shame because like he's you know, it's Thor the god of thunder. You know what mean? Oh, yeah, that was you see that was see but see something like that is funny though, because he's not really have to do like say any funny jokes. It's just like. Yeah, he's the big Lebowski, he's he's the dude, you know what I mean? But. Shamus: I loved it when he was fat, Charlie. It's just visually, he looks the way I feel. Herbie: Yes, like comic books were, you know, they're, I'm sure they're, you know, they're starting to come back now as like popularity, you know, cause I remember like a long time ago, there was like a local comic book shops here. Like, um, you know, that's how I got back into it because my friends that had the little camper would actually go to these comic book shops locally here in South Jersey and, you know, build up the thing where back in the day in New York or Hamilton, I would actually either go to a department store or like a small little like Grocery store that actually had like you know that little small revolving rack with the comic books, so it wasn't really like a huge You know surplus of availability wasn't like going into a library like a comic book stores like a library of frickin comic books so you get to see everything where you know you go to the supermarket and mom's buying a turkey and some stuff and you know has like that one little revolving metal rack and it's got like It's got like you know 20 or 30 comic books on it so The comic book shop actually helped reinvigorate my interest in comic books. And then when you do that, you're getting into all the stories that you missed. Because, you know, my buddy's like, oh, when did you stop reading comic books? I was like, it's been a while. He's like, dude, you missed a lot of shit. This is what happened. That's what happened. Check this out. Shamus: another thing I got back, got me back into it as I love the big bang theory ⁓ and watching them go into Stuart's ⁓ Herbie: Now the comic book Shamus: So I was like, man, I haven't been in one of those for a while. So I think I did go to one. Yeah. I forget where was that. And when I walked in, it was I was like, man, this is exactly how I remember it. Like every like just cardboard box like them long cardboard boxes. And it's just like amazing. Spider-Man one through 250. And you're just like, yeah, going through them. And yeah. And I was like, man, and that smell of like paper and plastic. Yeah. Man. So I did pick up three. And, you know, the owner comes over and he was just, OK, I don't know. And what are you interested in? I was like, I've been one these and you know, it was 30 years. Yeah. And he was and he said the same thing. He was like, man, you miss a lot. Yeah, I kind of want to stick to the old school stuff. I don't care. You know that? Yeah, I'm good, Herbie: over his. Diverse stuff. Yeah, there's so much stuff, dude. Shamus: Like after right around 91 or 92 when I was a freshman, I stopped. So I won't go any further into the field. If I I buy stuff, the only reason I went in there is because of the whole the Hobgoblin lives. Yeah. Trilogy thing they came out with. wanted to see what that was about. Yeah. But other than that, like I like even with the new Marvel movies, like after Endgame, I was like, like I've never seen Love and Thunder. I've never seen. Yeah. And yes, because I just have no. Herbie: interest really. Shamus: Yeah, because it's like I said, I think when I was a kid, I was collecting Spider-Man and Iron Man because I always thought they were like they're over saturating shit. Yeah, like I really don't like I said, do we really need a Thunderbolts movie? Like, do we really need like there was always like the X-Men, the Avengers. I get those super teams. Yeah. So I just kind of like. Herbie: They keep trying to do fantastic for Jessica Alba too, don't get me wrong, but yeah, the new one actually is pretty decent, but they, they, they, they, they swapped like some certain people. was just. Huge one. Shamus: Dan, I haven't seen the new one. I'm going to say they they fucked that up for me because I'm like. And when and I got yelled at by a bunch of nerds. It was on some site on my Facebook thing, and soon as I saw the silver and this is no disrespect to women. to me, Silver Surfer has always been a dude. And he's always been. Galactus's guy. Yeah. So when I saw that the surfer was a chick, I was like, well, I'm done. Herbie: at Norn Red. Shamus: Like I'm not even gonna go see that yeah, and I not that I put something like I can't believe they made the Silver Surfer Like somebody was like are you gonna go see this and I was like no they Know not that it's woke or any that stuff and I was just like, you know I get that they made Nick Nick Fury was a white dude, but they gave it Samuel L Jackson that shit I don't give him. Yeah, like yeah, so Herbie: one of the ultimate Shamus: I put something like, yeah, I'm not going to see that. They made the Silver Surfer check it. And they were just like, well, it's a different dimension than the one that you're used to. That's Earth to one to nine five. This is the mention. And I was just kind of like, all right, Herbie: Like, I don't know, I don't know. Shamus: The next time you venture out of your mother's basement and you you head down to the said, let me know and we can discuss this like human beings. Calm the fuck down. They were just like, fuck you. And I was like, babe. Herbie: Yeah. Yeah, sometimes I do have like problems with it. It's just like if the story is good, I don't care. Like if you grow up with like a certain character, even if you switch it back, like, say, if like Star Wars Princess Leia wasn't wasn't in the female, she was a dude. You're like, you know, why would you change an iconic character? You know, it's a different story. I'm like, OK, cool. Shamus: Well take that story line and Herbie: And now they're like, ⁓ it's not for you. like, OK, well, all the stuff, the fans that started this and helped build this up. Yeah, it's definitely still ours because we're the ones that built it up and bought the 75 cent comic books and stuff back in the day. know, if Hollywood can't come up with new stories and they try to reinvent and reinvigorate, you know, they'll spend the money. And then if it turns to shit. Shamus: Like I said, it's on that it's not just that it's just like I mentioned with the Tobey Maguire spider-man. Yeah, they totally fucked up the green goblin. Yeah and Venom in part three and then when Andrew Garfield think like Electro's this blue dude. Yeah, like he's got the green suit with like, what are we doing now? Visually? I thought the lizard looked amazing. Yeah, but like they always seem to screw up some shit and you're just like but when Osborn and that showed up with like the kind of ripped up. I was like, okay, that's more, no, that was, what the hell's his name? Herbie: Well, the Andrew Garfield one was like the Green Goblin look kind of like, I don't know, man. He looked like some... Shamus: ⁓ it was part three. It was beginning of part three with McGuire when, who's that dude? Herbie: The dude from... ⁓ Jesus Christ, he was in the Pineapple Express. Shamus: It was Harry Osborn's kid. Yeah, that dude. But like he showed up in part three. Yeah. The glider was a little but like you see it was kind of but he had like like these goggles on. I'm like. But and was it. Carfields. Where the other kids started turning the green gobbled Herbie: Yeah. Yeah, not bad, but he just looked stupid. was like, come on, It's just like these are these are characters that Shamus: They're iconic characters that you're just told who's growing up. Herbie: Yeah, they've been established for over 30 years. Like they're 40, 50, you know what mean? So that's, that's why like when kids, when we were kids, we were hoping, ⁓ man, when they finally come out with these movies, with the technology, they should actually make the costumes, the whole thing. We don't care if it's campy or not, just like a cool story and just accurate. Give us what we want. Because now sometimes even like I talked to other fans, like there's, it's like a mix. Like some people like the new ideas. And I guess maybe like some of those that like the new ideas, like to bring it, like their kids into it. Cause it's like a brand new way. And I'm like, all right, good for you, but whatever. But, I just can't get into it. But when you actually stick to the story and stick to the comic books, like now people are sometimes they're not really. excited about the movies, unless they see the trailer. And then sometimes there's some movies like the comic book movies where most of the cool stuff is in the trailer and it's only last that long. And you're just like, you finally watch it. They, they lure you to watch the damn thing and pay your money to watch it. And you're like, eh, this is a high, you know, just going to mind up going there, paying for the, know, that's probably how the movie theaters are making their money now too is when they trick you to with the, with the with the trailers and then, by make you buy like the $40 green goblin popcorn bucket and everything else that comes with it. You know what mean? So some jerk off can sell it on eBay for 300 bucks. You scumbags. know he worried. Shamus: Sometimes sometimes I don't even give a shit about that. They give the story because both Ghost Rider movies I thought the second one was better than the first but like yeah, they just sucked Cool character I thought the first one was It was great with like Sam Elliott as the original Carter Slade. Yeah, and like they show him right like that's a famous iconic picture Yeah, you know with the Harley and uh, Herbie: Yeah, it's a shame to. Yeah, it's a cool character. Shamus: But I was like, yes, it's the villain suck. But it wasn't bad visually. The second one, the storyline was a little bit better. But visually, I was like because that was the same guys who did that movie crank. Yeah, it was a tailor and Neville Dean, whatever. I thought, man, that looks I didn't give a shit about the movie. I just like any time he rolled up on screen or just transformed, I was like, wow. Herbie: drop them. Shamus: to see him ripping up the road in broad daylight. ⁓ yeah. And like in the comic book, everything he touches turns into whatever. And I was like, man, this is amazing. I don't even care who's in this movie. This is a dick. Herbie: Yeah, that's where all the money went. That money did not go into the villains. That's for goddamn sure man. Jesus Christ Shamus: But man, that movie was visually just, and just like Venom, like that first movie, I think he fought Ravage or whatever. It was another symbiote or whatever. I mean, visually, that I was so happy that that's what Venom looks like. And that's what he was doing. Eddie brought like when he's eating the lobster, live lobsters out of the tank and all that. I was like, man, this is awesome. Herbie: That's how Deadpool like actually pulled it off because like, know, Deadpool stayed with like with the character, the cursing, everything for costume. Yeah, because I mean, that's like brought it back. You know, him. The best parts of that one was like comic book accurate costume, great costume, great accuracy with like how he is. ⁓ Ryan Reynolds plays a great job with him. Shamus: All about. ⁓ he is. Herbie: And you bring Colossus in and just the fact that he's just busted on like, you know, they didn't pay enough money for cool looking characters because that that Colossus is the more comic book accurate than compared to the other X-Men movies. You know what mean? That's what like kind of pissed the rest of us like super like X-Men geek nerds. Shamus: Listen, that movie, I remember we were walking out. went to go see that movie 42. Jackie Robinson story. And me and my lady friend at the time were walking out of the movie theater and the first cutout was there. Like he was laying like on the couch and yeah. And I just stopped and looked at it and she was like, are you okay? And I was like, if they do that movie, right. And I'm an Iron Man guy. I said, if they do that movie, right, that is going to be the biggest grossing Marvel movie ⁓ to date. And she was just like, Who the fuck is Deadpool? And I was like, wait until the shit drops. When that dropped and to find out that Marvel didn't want to do it. Yeah, it was a zero budget kind of deal. And the way they pulled that off. Yeah, because he is the epitome of what Deadpool like. Yeah. Deadpool looking in a comic book like he's talking to breaking a third, fourth wall. And I was like, this is amazing. Like that whole. Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: And I'm so glad they're tying them into doomsday and all that stuff. And but man, that was probably. yeah. It's definitely my top three superhero movies. Herbie: They didn't have to do much with that one. I said, all they do is do the costume, the character, because even like Francis... And give us Colossus, that was awesome, but like, you know, the villain in that one was Francis, and I was like, that's corny, but the rest of it, you hung around because it was funny, it was action-packed, and all that shit. But, I don't know if you know this, the first really good Marvel movie that people, a lot of people don't know, was Blade. Shamus: bunch of dick and fart jokes. Yeah, blade was really good. Herbie: Blade was actually, I would say for me, I'm still gonna say like that was the first high grossing Marvel movie, Blade. So give credit to Blade, the day walker. Shamus: A lot of people don't know that Ryan Reynolds was in part three. Yeah. And he had been Wesley Snipe had beef. ⁓ yeah. And that's why he bought it back for Deadpool three. They squashed that beef and that's why. Yeah. Herbie: Now, of course, did a great job bringing Hugh Jackman back. that's another reason why that went apeshit too, because everyone that's a Wolverine fan, finally got it. The costume, man, we're like, just for years, man, everyone's waiting for the Wolverine costume. They finally gave it to us. And look how much money you make when you give the fans what the fuck they want. You fuckers. You know what mean? We don't want no fucking leather jumpsuit. Looks like he's like a Formula One racer. We want the fucking Wolverine costume. Shamus: Yeah, I, the second and third one were okay, but the first one was just, to me is just, oh my God. And some of the shit, he put up a thing. I was at one of my military unions. were in Georgia that year when they came out and me and my buddy were like, I was like, did you see it? He was like, yeah. And I was like, what do you think? And he was like, amazing dude. So we're talking to him. So some of my other buddies were like, what are you dorks talking about? We're like Deadpool movie. So another one of my buddy's kids comes over and he was like, did you see what he posted on X or Twitter at the time? And I'm like, Deadpool's got a Twitter. So like, yeah, go on there. And some kid wrote them on and this is no bullshit. Like some little kid was like, Mr. Deadpool, I really want to see your movie, but my mom won't let me go because it's R rated. Could you please like make another version where it's under that? He was like, I'm really sorry that your mom will let you go see the movie, but. Herbie: I Shamus: Fuck that. Fuck you. No. Tell your mom, you know, come see me. got something for or something like that. I was just like, ⁓ Herbie: But it's the sucking character, man. I think that's another thing. Like back in the day that that ruined the first Mortal Kombat movie because like all the kids knew that that video game is just like ripping people's heads off and stuff. And then you give us that shit like all those Mortal Kombat. Like I basically stuck around to watch just the fight scenes. And I was just like, all right, I'm like a one watch apiece. was like, OK, I'm done because I went to the movie theaters to see the first Mortal Kombat. Shamus: we see the last, well the second iteration of it? Herbie: I, I cheated everyone on YouTube. It's like, can't really like, unless, unless it's like star wars and stuff like that. I mean, even sometimes star wars let me down with the, the, the race saga that was fricking atrocious. don't care what people say. That was horrible. Um, you know, it's just kind of hard for like some of these, you know, nerds like me that want to commit and go out and see a movie. Cause you see certain things, just like you said, like, know, you want to see what the costumes look like. You don't, I mean, if the story's cool, but like the costumes are there. Awesome. That's like worth your money. know, like I'll pay the money to see that, but you know, there's like very rarely now for me, like a lot of the comic book movies out that I'm going to run to the movie theaters to watch or rewatch all the time. You know, like I watched like the guardians of the galaxy, you know, but I won't like continually watch all of them. I didn't even watch the last one to be honest. I mean, it's, looked like it was a good story, but I wasn't really a big fan of guardians anyway, in the comics and stuff, but they had, did a great job, but. ⁓ Shamus: I was all on board for Doomsday, but then when they because I knew they were they were talking about doing it. Yeah. But they didn't announce who was in it yet. And then when at Comic Con, when he ripped off that mask and it was Robert Downey Jr. I was just like fucking trade. I was so mad, And I could care less. for some reason that really, really chopped my head. Yeah, I was livid. Yeah. I was like, are you fucking? ⁓ Herbie: Yeah. It's almost like who do you get to do it though? But you know, because if you notice now a lot of the Marvel movies, it's almost like the same actors or well, yeah, but like. Shamus: You get somebody else to play that shit. I don't care because that pretty much slams the door on the whole. Maybe we bring him back. mean, don't get me wrong. They could still bring him back or because like rumor is like dooms his brother and resurrects his twin brother, and like they didn't know about it. I'm like, come on, man. Yeah. Just find somebody else to do that shit. I was so pissed off. ⁓ Herbie: Like I said, man, like lot of these movies now you have like the same actors being multiple characters in Marvel and DC. I mean, they're all like a lot of them are like pretty decent, but some other ones are like, are sure you don't have anyone else? You know, like if you really have like an actor that plays like three roles in like other different movies, you're like, just give me the special effects. I think that's after a while. It just boils down to like costumes and special effects. Shamus: now. And that's just got me mad all over again. I was mad when he pulled that mask off. I said, and I kind of thought like when they had them all because they had like a bunch of guys dressed as doomed. Yeah. And I was just kind of like, this better not be Could this be Robert Downey Jr.? So he said he was done with more of them. When he ripped that off, I was like, what the fuck? ⁓ Herbie: Yeah. Because like if you really think about like those movies been around for like what 10 15 years or something like that so it's Shamus: Ironman kicked it off and that was 2008. Yeah, so I mean Herbie: old is the old long time but you know like Hollywood doesn't care about like us really like the old time fans because basically if you really think about if you leave something alone for 1015 years it becomes something completely brand new because you're bringing in new people you know so you can actually bring in You can redo the like Marvel movies like you know you can do like X-Men or something and like a new like the younger kids will want to go see it because it's superhero cast you know superhero movie. Shamus: those people that think like that I'm telling you right now I do not have your interest. Herbie: Oh yeah, that's what I'm saying. Hollywood doesn't give a fuck at all. They just like, they did the same thing where they'll be like, all right, well, we're going to make the new movies and then we're like the parents that grew up with that, of course want to go see it. And then they're to bring their kids. money, more money, more money, Shamus: Fucking Robert Downey Jr. is doomed. He's gotta be shitting. Herbie: It's probably gonna be pretty good though. I'm not gonna get super hyped about it cuz like like I was saying before like me and my other Fellow nerds and I'm talking like people from like doctors and all this that we can't really get super hyped about stuff anymore It's almost getting to the point now where you like you see the the trailers like alright, that looks pretty cool But maybe I just seen like mostly the movie on this trailer and not really interested. And like I said, again, still get picky. Like what does the, who, who plays that character? What does the costume look like? And then the story and all that stuff comes later. Shamus: I usually get hyped up for the spider because spider-man's dropping right before yeah doomsday I kind of don't want to see it. Yeah, I kind of and that's rare for me because usually a spider-man movie I want to go see but I was just kind of like, ⁓ Like I know man. Like that doom thing really fucked me up. ⁓ I'm ⁓ done all this My silver surfer with boobs Herbie: don't really miss with spiderman too much except like some- Goblin they fucked up Sorry, Tommy's working so hard. He's like, God damn it. That's what it was like. You know what? If they, they're starting to come back, it's almost like they're starting to listen to the old fans now because after a while it's almost like any type of company where they, want to roll out a new way to do the job. And all the people that have been there done the job. Like it's a bad idea. It's not going to work. And of all the managers like, no, no, it's okay. We'll be all right. And then like a couple of months later, They finally like go back to like the old policies and stuff and like, we told you didn't want to listen, but now they're starting to do that because you know, of course money talks. So they're just going to go back and try it. They're slowly trying to stick with the, you know, the costumes are trying to stick with the, original origin stories. Shamus: I got pissed off and iron. What was it? ⁓ the age of Ultron where, know, that the AI thing killed Jarvis and then they had the female voice. I forget her name. Yeah. Jarvis. Well, I mean, he became visionary or whatever. Yeah. But that I mean, that relationship that he had with Jarvis was just amazing. Yeah. And when he made it a female voice, I was like, and it might have changed after 92. But like it was always. Yeah. I was like, ⁓ man. Herbie: That's the, you know, the original, ⁓ origin of vision is completely different than what it makes sense how they bring it into this and stuff like that. But it's just like, ⁓ it's kind of, sometimes it's hard for Hollywood to be able to tie in shit. And it actually doesn't help either that if the people aren't really into it or really know much about it they want to write a whole new different story, like, bro, you missed the, you missed the, you missed the point on that one. Shamus: Absolutely. See, as long as they kind of keep it, because I wasn't upset about that. I was like, OK, that's how it's done, whatever. But like I said, there's certain other shit you're just like, Herbie: I have a feeling folks that shaman is gonna be sleeping tonight. He's like goddamn it down his doom Shamus: ⁓ I fucking bet still at the end of ⁓ like we said about Chuck Norris downing junior fucking do ⁓ Herbie: Yeah. You know, it's going to be messed up, though, if he really nails it again and just like. You know, mean, because I love Robert Downey, like you like, like Chaplin is like he is like one of my favorite movies. ⁓ like just his. Shamus: ⁓ he's going to. Yeah, that's the problem. Amazing movie, dude. Amazing. Herbie: but I've always loved Robert Downey Shamus: When he was there's a quarterback movie back in the day called John to be good with Michael like he was a sidekick, but he's awesome in that Herbie: He was also in back to school. He was also in weird science, you know, just. Shamus: Less than zero. Yeah, great movie. Yeah, but yeah, he was Tony Stark. Yeah, man Herbie: And there's no other way you can cast anybody else for that role. Shamus: I kind didn't like how they did ⁓ the whole War machine shit too. ⁓ That's how that's not how it went. ⁓ roadie became iron man in the comic books because tony was in rehab. Yeah ⁓ And I didn't like what was the other thing like I forget but Yeah ⁓ Herbie: Also, think because current events, know, with Robert Downey... Yeah, they were like in that that that kind of faded out quick Yeah, it's a shame too. Cuz like sometimes like, you know, Hollywood just like throw some ideas and like, alright Maybe we can make some money and then it doesn't they just bury that goddamn shit or they try to rein I don't know. It's just ⁓ Shamus: I thought the kid part three, where he's in that small town and he hides the suit and at the end he hooks them up with all the lab shit and the Mustang. I was like, and then he was at the funeral scene. I was like, yeah, he's the next one to take the throne, which would have been fine with me if that, but I don't know. Herbie: where And like Iron Lad, because I know they have like the other Avengers. Shamus: All right, before we wrap this up. Herbie: They fucked up the Mandarin too. ⁓ they did. They fucked up. Shamus: He fucked up whiplash. Yeah. Mickey work. was kind of hoping to see, ⁓ because he was supposed to be, ⁓ there was two of them. It was a Crenson Dynamo. Yeah. And there was the other guy. Herbie: Yeah, the... The green dude. Yeah, the crimson guard or whatever. Shamus: Yeah, I mean, they were the Russian robots there because in the arm rewards, he's got to go around and take all this technology back. And. And was a whiplash was like, mean, don't get me wrong, make your works to man. ⁓ yeah, I went to my bird. Herbie: Yeah, they fuck. God. My board. Shamus: And Sam Rockwell's character is supposed to be the Beatle. I was waiting for that. Yeah. That suit would have been awesome. Yeah. Because in the comic books that was. on that off. But no, we got the Mandarin who absolutely sucked. Herbie: fricking actor and then like they put him in like the TV show. try to do power, man. And it's like, how's that doing now? It's a shame. Shamus: Alright, out all the Batmans out there, who's your favorite Batman? Herbie: Michael Keaton. Okay. I do like, um, Christian Bale, but it's at that. It's a great story, it did that. Now it's come on, man. It just loses it. Shamus: That gets everybody. Favorite, favorite, you can only pick one. Comic book hero or villain. Actually give me one of each, and villain on the big screen. Herbie: On the big screen, would, I would still say, actually, you know what Wolverine hero. do love Tom Holland as Spider-Man. do love Spider-Man. He's like my favorite character. The Wolverine would be close second, but I think there's so much into oversaturation with Spider-Man that Wolverine's more unique. And I finally get the yellow costume. So right now Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. That's like my favorite movie one because like with all due respect, like, know, with, you know, when Spiderman's in the costume, you can just do the CGI thing because he's doing all the crazy acrobats and all that stuff. But in my heart, my favorite all time is Spiderman and we're for each second. But movie wise, sorry, Tom, but he was, he's got like number one. You're definitely like very close second, you know. Shamus: and ⁓ Herbie: I hated fucking Arnold Schwarzenegger as Dr. Freeze. Shamus: No, I meant like your favorite film. Herbie: Favorite villain movie? Jesus Christ. I would actually say, Magneto. Shamus: That's actually a really good pick. Yeah. Now, do you like the young Magneto or the old Magneto? Herbie: like them both, just like the older Magneto just seems more comic book actor because he's like, you know, he's got the gray hair and stuff like that, but it's just like Magneto on the movie screen, especially with the helmet. Shamus: Yeah. He's a bad dude. Herbie: Yeah, Magneto's incredible. And like, Kevin Bacon as the Black King was like, cool shit, you know, Magneto. Shamus: Okay. Yeah. Well, my favorite Batman and I don't know if I can. Is my man Lego Batman. I fucking love Lego Batman. That's great. That movie. And it's a shame because they're not redoing it. Yeah, because there's something with the rights with that. Yeah. That movie is single handedly the funniest goddamn movie. Like it's right in my top 10. Herbie: I think I know what you're gonna say. ⁓ really? ⁓ Shamus: Have you seen the movie have you seen the leg? Herbie: Before a lot. Oh, my God. But I was like, I'm not I can't do Legos, dude. just listen. can't even build. Oh, yeah. A lot of these kid movies, adult movies. Shamus: That is an adult movie, dude. He goes, he goes, I'm not going to give it to you. But like the opening scene, the Joker's doing something and he's got all these hostages and he was like, Batman will fall to my knees and I will be victorious. And they were just like, yeah, like that time where you hijacked the parade, like in Michael Keaton, when you hijacked the parade with the balloons, with the smile, that worked real well. And he just like looks over and then the other guy said, what? The other time when you did that, they do a day spoof, like all the old, like even reference. The shark spray, all that, dude, it's hysterical. So Batman shows up, does his thing. So when he leaves, like everybody's like, yeah! So he shows up at the orphanage and he's like, merch him, bat merch! And he starts like shooting out these like t-shirts and all this shit that are, he was like, ⁓ and does Batman always say kids? And they're like, don't skip like that! He's like, damn right! So then he gets in his car and he's driving to the bat cave. ⁓ And the like, okay sir. Batcave approaching password needed. He's like Iron Man sucks password accepted. Dude, it's his star. I was absolutely the first 10 minutes that I was pissing my pants. Herbie: Actually, you know what to like my favorite villain on screen too. I got a big shout out to Heath Ledger as Joker. That was silly. Oh Honorable mention man, cuz it's Shamus: Oh, I was just I was going to. I was going to say either him or Gene Hackman is let Lex Luthor. Herbie: Yeah, he was more funny, but I was never a Lex Luthor fan because he's just a bald human. Shamus: But man, you're right, Ledger was a man. Herbie: It's an incredible, I mean that is like just, yeah. Shamus: That part where he's walking out of the hospital. Herbie: ⁓ yeah. Just throw it in there. ⁓ he's just great though, man. Yeah, that one. know. Shamus: Killed him. Yeah. That part killed him. I would have to say besides Ledger though. I don't know, man. never really. ⁓ Ultron doesn't get a lot of credit. Yeah, because he had that Tony Stark isms to him. So like he would talk like Stark and all that stuff. So he was very sarcastic. It was Jarvis. Herbie: with it. Yeah, but like the actor, ⁓ it was all another like 80s icon dude that used to work with Robert Downey Jr. in movies. What's his face? He was in Wolf. ⁓ God, I can't believe I don't know his name. Now the wolf with Jack Nicholson. ⁓ remember? Now he was all he was the other reporter guy. He was also in Jesus Christ has been like a nine billion movies. Shamus: ⁓ I didn't know that. Street. Not Anthony Hopkins. Herbie: ⁓ he was also like one of the new bosses in office space. Jesus Christ. Why can I not know his fucking name? He's been like in the. Shamus: I don't know. ⁓ I know who you're talking about. The dude from the blacklist. Fuck is that? And I loved him in the office. ⁓ yeah. He's a bad guy and pretty in pink too. Yeah, yeah. Herbie: I know and it's just and he's a he's a fantastic actor too. I love the guy Yeah Shamus: We'll get it before we go. But he's the idea be this. That's going to bug me, Herbie: Yeah, but watch when we get the name of Lickety Shamus: But I all trying to get enough credit. I really like everybody like Santos. He didn't really do anything for me. Like he was an asshole. Don't get me wrong. But are we both looking at something here? James Spader. Yeah. I did forget that Spader was. Herbie: And Spade. Yes, it's a shanty. I'm like, Jesus Christ. Like Mr. Spader, if you ever listen to this, I am so sorry. Like, I love your work, Shamus: Yeah, but I mean, I thought Ledger was pretty much on point. Yeah. Herbie: Who was like, all right, well, who was your like your least favorite villain then? Shamus: somebody I hate it in a role on the big screen. Yeah. I'd have to go with what's his face is venom. Yeah. In Spider-Man three. I thought that was I was so pissed off. Like I can't believe I pay. I think at the time it was like 12. I can't believe I 12 bucks to see this shit because I thought visually Sandman was great. Yeah. I was the dude in wings or whatever his name is. Herbie: you love that TV show. Whoever's listening, don't sleep on the TV show wings, man. It was worth it. Shamus: Yeah, it was good. And I like him as an actor. ⁓ I thought that was great. But like when that little ass venom showed up, I was like, ⁓ my God. I mean, it was like watching Tommy Davison climb out of that bag ⁓ the Detective movie part two. And ⁓ he was like, ⁓ I that's what that reminded me of. It was like my cat in a venom suit. What the fuck is this? ⁓ Herbie: ⁓ yeah. Shamus: just screeching and yeah man hit that dude with some raid and be done ⁓ I think my least favorite superhero in the role Herbie: Man, was a shame. Shamus: I don't know. Herbie: We'll give credit for like the original daywalker Wesley Snipes's blade that was... He nailed that, he nailed that dude. Shamus: Yeah, he's a- Yeah, I think they're bringing him back because they're doing a new one and I think he's going to pass it towards his son or something like that. Herbie: I ain't gonna lie though, I did like Ben Affleck as Batman 2.0. Shamus: ⁓ I like Channing Tainham's Gambit. I mean, he only had that small role, but I was just kind of like, dude, really. Herbie: He was really going for he was like, think the reason why they did it because he was like really going for that. Like he wanted that role like for a long time. I think that was like, you know, like. He looked he looked good, though, Shamus: I know, but I thought the one gambit in X-Men Origins Wolverine. Yeah, that dude. And he's played in a ton of movies, other like other stuff. He's pretty famous guy. Yeah, but I just thought visually it was better than like the comic book version of it, just kind of like. Herbie: They fucked that up, they cost him up and everything. If he had the costume and like, know, better with the powers and all that stuff, then I could see, but I guess like, you know, that's. Shamus: I like, look at this, dude. I did like your speeches. Like, you just tell everybody you remember what happened here today. Herbie: I think that was like those comic books back in the day, like they tried to take it more of a serious look. That's why they changed the costumes and make it not look too cart superhero cart, you know, bookie. if you sometimes comic book costumes to life, looks like goofy as hell because you know, back in the day they had like literally six colors to work with, you know, making the comic books back in the day. Shamus: There's a way you can do that. Because when they did do the Spider-Man were like all three of them are together like when William DeFeo rolls up, he's actually almost wearing that. Like he's got the purple boots, but the purple and it's like all ripped up. I'm like, that's the way that should have been. Yeah. Instead of all that. I'm a green ranger. Power Ranger with yellow eyes. Herbie: Go go Power Rangers! ⁓ Shamus: Get the fuck out of here. So, all right, we gotta wrap this up. All right, as always, make sure you like, rate, subscribe. Let us know what you're thinking. Let us know what you guys think. Heroes, favorite Batman, favorite villains, favorite heroes, not so favorite. My worst Batman has gotta be probably Clooney. Herbie: It's a shame too, because he's good looking dude. It's just... ⁓ yeah, the movie just sucked. I'm just like, sorry man. Even Clooney couldn't save that one. And Val, because Val Kimmer is great too, but unfortunately they couldn't save that one either. Shamus: Yeah, I like them. I like all the stuff him and Brad Pitt do. Well, let us know what you guys think. We're gonna get up outta here. Remember to get your cat Spade and your dog Spade and Newton and control the pet population. And as always, take care of yourselves and each other. Harvey? Later. Herbie: Rock and roll everybody.
