- 0:27Speaker 4: Today is the day.
- 0:28Speaker 5: We've heard debates, We've heard all kinds of stuff leading
- 0:31Speaker 5: up to this misinformation.
- 0:32Speaker 4: But guess what.
- 0:33Speaker 2: It's here, the rut.
- 0:35Speaker 6: Let's go.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Welcome to Refresh Radio, Rocky by First Light.
- 0:50Speaker 7: Here.
- 0:50Speaker 4: I'm your host, Casey Smith.
- 0:52Speaker 5: Tyler Jones, the Hunting Master himself is here with me
- 0:55Speaker 5: as well.
- 0:56Speaker 4: Guys, the Hunting Master, that's you. Thhm t J.
- 1:04Speaker 5: I don't know if there's any way to hide it
- 1:06Speaker 5: at this point, Collar, I've been wanting to get this.
- 1:08Speaker 4: Out for a while. I'm so excited that you can't
- 1:10Speaker 4: hide it.
- 1:11Speaker 1: The is here.
- 1:13Speaker 4: It's actually here.
- 1:14Speaker 2: It's that's right, unless you're a big old bucket.
- 1:22Speaker 8: The yell.
- 1:22Speaker 4: The boys are.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Running around on the cranes plans.
- 1:28Speaker 5: Yeah, guys, I think we should just hope you up because.
- 1:36Speaker 4: That's what you need right now.
- 1:38Speaker 5: This is going to come out the day after election day,
- 1:40Speaker 5: and no matter what the result is, you need to
- 1:42Speaker 5: be hunting.
- 1:43Speaker 4: That's all I need to say on that. I thought
- 1:45Speaker 4: you were going a different direction with that. What'd you
- 1:47Speaker 4: think I was going? No matter what the result, Jesus
- 1:49Speaker 4: is king.
- 1:49Speaker 2: That's true. Brother, that is true.
- 1:54Speaker 5: And within the scope of that, you should hunt and
- 1:57Speaker 5: go out and enjoy the creation.
- 1:58Speaker 8: You go, you go.
- 2:00Speaker 5: So November sixth, remember seventh, Remember eight, we're not remember ten?
- 2:05Speaker 5: Number eleventh, November twelfth, I think is what this rough
- 2:07Speaker 5: fresh covers and those are all I mean, I mean
- 2:12Speaker 5: better from Michigan like Mark.
- 2:13Speaker 4: It might be over by the eighth, you know, sure.
- 2:16Speaker 5: But I want you all to know that the Element
- 2:22Speaker 5: boys are going to give you a special ret fresh.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Update right now.
- 2:26Speaker 5: Let's go, dude, between our crew, we've killed five deer
- 2:33Speaker 5: in the last week, five.
- 2:34Speaker 4: Bucks in the last six days. Six days.
- 2:37Speaker 5: Yeah, and every single one of them.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Get this.
- 2:43Speaker 4: I don't know if you've realized this yet or not.
- 2:44Speaker 5: Taller was called INT's called him with the rattling antlers,
- 2:47Speaker 5: in particular.
- 2:49Speaker 4: Getting we're giving them all the great information. I mean,
- 2:52Speaker 4: people gonna be rattling all over the country. It's the thing, man,
- 2:55Speaker 4: It's uh. I don't think we discovered this week.
- 2:57Speaker 5: I don't know if. Yeah, I mean Texas did for sure,
- 3:00Speaker 5: so we could say.
- 3:00Speaker 4: Week Texas is the birthplace of like managing deer guarantee
- 3:05Speaker 4: you that's exactly right.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Quality deer management started in Texas, but either way, it moved.
- 3:12Speaker 4: And no longer exists.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Man.
- 3:13Speaker 4: That just tells you a lot.
- 3:14Speaker 2: That's that's right, man.
- 3:16Speaker 5: I think that there's a deeper science to rattling that
- 3:19Speaker 5: I'm interested in learning about throughout my life. But I
- 3:23Speaker 5: will say that from October thirty till about right now,
- 3:26Speaker 5: it would seem it works really really really well, and
- 3:29Speaker 5: it very well might work good after that, but there's
- 3:32Speaker 5: probably something going on with the way the deer are acting.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Like.
- 3:35Speaker 5: I think that in that seeking phase, which seems like
- 3:40Speaker 5: there's kind of two of those, right for a for
- 3:43Speaker 5: a standard rut, that's when that really works well. And
- 3:46Speaker 5: you said that somebody, maybe it was you, somebody told
- 3:49Speaker 5: you that, maybe it's Greg. I don't know, but they
- 3:53Speaker 5: thought that it's when a new buck enters in area
- 3:55Speaker 5: and they have to kind of rework out the pecking
- 3:57Speaker 5: order that they all worked out in the summer. Is
- 3:59Speaker 5: that you talk about that. I don't think that was
- 4:01Speaker 5: a mean I thought it was a neat hypothesis where
- 4:05Speaker 5: it's not that these bucks have been buddies all summer
- 4:09Speaker 5: and then all of a sudden they're gonna fight. It's
- 4:12Speaker 5: that there's a new buck in town because he's out
- 4:15Speaker 5: roaming seeking doze and he enters another buck's core area,
- 4:20Speaker 5: and then they have to work out the thing that
- 4:22Speaker 5: most of the other bucks worked out in the summer,
- 4:25Speaker 5: which makes a lot of sense.
- 4:26Speaker 2: For the moose buck that I killed in Kansas last year, we.
- 4:29Speaker 5: Had didn't have him on camera all summer long, all fall,
- 4:33Speaker 5: and all of a sudden I show up in Glass
- 4:35Speaker 5: one day and he's fighting one of our one hundred
- 4:38Speaker 5: and fifty inch eight points to the death pretty much
- 4:40Speaker 5: down in the bottom and it's it's November fifteenth, and
- 4:44Speaker 5: he lost and died.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Yeah, he didn't die from that though.
- 4:50Speaker 4: I should go ahead and tell you.
- 4:51Speaker 5: We'll put a link to this below, but my hunt
- 4:54Speaker 5: for that dear is on the Element channel, and it
- 4:56Speaker 5: is it's like one of my most favorite thing we've
- 5:00Speaker 5: ever put together. I love it so much, so I'd
- 5:03Speaker 5: appreciate it if you'd go watch it.
- 5:04Speaker 4: It's awesome.
- 5:05Speaker 5: It's just a blessing to be a part of, you know,
- 5:09Speaker 5: much less be the one that gets to shoot in
- 5:10Speaker 5: that thing.
- 5:11Speaker 4: Think, man, you and Brandon never gonna do anything better.
- 5:14Speaker 4: That's right, Casey, he's got a buddy. It shot a
- 5:18Speaker 4: really big deal this year, and they were talking about
- 5:20Speaker 4: it and like, yep, I guess that's the biggest one
- 5:22Speaker 4: I'll ever shoot in. Case He was like thinking about oh,
- 5:26Speaker 4: and then he's like, yeah, yeah, probably, I see.
- 5:30Speaker 2: What's great is you and I haven't peaked yet.
- 5:31Speaker 4: I'm telling you, you know, I'm waiting on it. It's coming. Wait, no,
- 5:34Speaker 4: it's going to be soon.
- 5:35Speaker 5: So I guess this has just been a big hot
- 5:38Speaker 5: fist guys. I mean, it's time to be hop If
- 5:41Speaker 5: you know, maybe we were talking about this last week.
- 5:43Speaker 5: I can't remember, but if it's game day and you're
- 5:46Speaker 5: you're a football player and you get too hope around noon,
- 5:49Speaker 5: but the games at six pm, you're gonna have a fallout. Well,
- 5:52Speaker 5: right now, it's like the end of halftime and it's
- 5:56Speaker 5: time to rock in.
- 5:56Speaker 4: And we've been telling y'all, so hopefully you listen. Yes,
- 5:59Speaker 4: but don't you know, I don't get too hot yet.
- 6:00Speaker 4: Don't go into the woods just shit, I mean, go
- 6:02Speaker 4: in the woods, but don't go into your best spot.
- 6:04Speaker 4: Don't worry. It's not the rud if you need to
- 6:05Speaker 4: take time off. So wait, wait till these dates. And
- 6:09Speaker 4: these are the dates.
- 6:09Speaker 5: These are the PTO dates, these are the vacation dates,
- 6:14Speaker 5: and that kind of stuff.
- 6:15Speaker 4: It's time to go, Tyler.
- 6:17Speaker 2: This is unprecedented, but I'm going to have.
- 6:19Speaker 5: You give a overall score one to ten buck movement
- 6:25Speaker 5: around the country, around the country.
- 6:27Speaker 4: Yeah, man, that's tough because we've been talking to of course,
- 6:30Speaker 4: we've got buddies in the south and people back home,
- 6:34Speaker 4: and apparently it's still warm. Even though we hadn't been
- 6:36Speaker 4: there in a while, it's still still pretty warm. Overall.
- 6:41Speaker 4: We had a really hot October overall, and I would
- 6:45Speaker 4: say that that is going to counteract what we've been experiencing. So,
- 6:52Speaker 4: I mean, it was probably I would not be surprised
- 6:55Speaker 4: if it was twenty where I sat this morning. It
- 6:56Speaker 4: was twenty three when I parked my truck and I
- 6:58Speaker 4: went downhill towards the river. So twenty degrees right versus
- 7:02Speaker 4: whatever it is down in Texas.
- 7:04Speaker 5: So if we say, let's give two ratings north of
- 7:07Speaker 5: I forty in south of I.
- 7:08Speaker 4: Forty, Okay, that's a pretty good line. I think as
- 7:12Speaker 4: far as north and south best I can tell. I mean,
- 7:14Speaker 4: I've been here hunting every day, so I don't know
- 7:16Speaker 4: the weather across the country, but I would assume that's
- 7:18Speaker 4: a pretty good line. We'll say, north of I forty,
- 7:21Speaker 4: we are we are above a nine. We are above
- 7:24Speaker 4: a nine right now, it's as good as I've seen it,
- 7:29Speaker 4: boys and girls and mostly boys. And then below I forty,
- 7:34Speaker 4: we're gonna give it. We're gonna give it a six
- 7:38Speaker 4: point seventy three. That's a pretty good spot. I mean,
- 7:40Speaker 4: I feel like that's the case.
- 7:43Speaker 5: If you're a Southerner, you know that the rut is
- 7:45Speaker 5: sometimes a little less defined, and this whole month for
- 7:49Speaker 5: a lot of places will be really good, and then
- 7:50Speaker 5: there's some places that still we're looking forward to December.
- 7:53Speaker 2: I do find it interesting.
- 7:54Speaker 5: That the north of I forty, stuff, we had a
- 7:58Speaker 5: good cold front move through, and now we just have
- 8:00Speaker 5: a lot of consistent weather. But it seems that it's
- 8:05Speaker 5: it's a good effect. It's not like it's gotten super hot.
- 8:09Speaker 5: It's not gonna be good like freezing good days, but
- 8:12Speaker 5: it's just really good November days might be a little
- 8:15Speaker 5: warmer than that normal, but I think that we have
- 8:18Speaker 5: some high pressure and stuff, and I just it's just
- 8:20Speaker 5: it's a good year.
- 8:21Speaker 4: It's rock and rolling right now. I mean this morning
- 8:24Speaker 4: was my typical experience hunting in November, where it's very
- 8:29Speaker 4: cold in the morning and then it warms up to
- 8:31Speaker 4: t shirt weather in afternoon probably, you know, depending on
- 8:34Speaker 4: what you're doing. So yeah, I would say those those temps,
- 8:37Speaker 4: along with just maybe that that northern latitude overall where
- 8:41Speaker 4: deer need to be in a short window of rut,
- 8:45Speaker 4: is what helps out the rut right now North eye
- 8:48Speaker 4: forty and I would say that that longer, more extended,
- 8:52Speaker 4: drawing out window that the South experience is in a
- 8:55Speaker 4: lot of places is what is hurting it, along with
- 8:58Speaker 4: some hot temps. I would expect as soon as you
- 9:01Speaker 4: see some cold weather, and if not, probably in the
- 9:05Speaker 4: next seven days, things are really gonna start popping off
- 9:08Speaker 4: in the South. YEP.
- 9:10Speaker 5: My final reminder here guys is if you don't get
- 9:14Speaker 5: them killed in the next week, you have zero reason
- 9:17Speaker 5: to panic. There's a lot of deer season left, okay,
- 9:19Speaker 5: But it's fun to be in the woods right now
- 9:21Speaker 5: because things are really exciting. But even in the most
- 9:25Speaker 5: northern latitudes of Wattail Country, you're gonna see good rud
- 9:29Speaker 5: activity for quite.
- 9:30Speaker 2: A while, you know.
- 9:30Speaker 5: But it's it's peeking out here real soon. So get
- 9:34Speaker 5: excited getting the woods when you can. Tyler, who are
- 9:36Speaker 5: we talking to today?
- 9:37Speaker 4: We're gonna be talking to our buddy Scott Harness. He's
- 9:40Speaker 4: from Arkansas, one of my favorite people in the world.
- 9:43Speaker 4: We also have Zach Lewis and Texas, our buddy Jared
- 9:47Speaker 4: Larson from on X up in Wisconsin, and Philip Tuttle
- 9:50Speaker 4: from Illinois.
- 9:51Speaker 5: Awesome, let's get those guys on the phone. I've got
- 9:54Speaker 5: my buddy Scott Harness. He is an Arkansas hunter and pastor. Extraordinary.
- 9:59Speaker 8: What's going on, brother, it's all you guys, man, all
- 10:03Speaker 8: you guys living the dream.
- 10:04Speaker 4: Yeah for sure. Well, I.
- 10:08Speaker 5: Know you've been after the deer and you've been after souls,
- 10:10Speaker 5: and you probably got a good report for both.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Let's talk about the deer right quick. What are the
- 10:15Speaker 2: deer doing out there? Man?
- 10:16Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 10:16Speaker 8: Well you know, we had a crazy warm end of October.
- 10:22Speaker 8: Early October, we really had a lot of pre rut activity.
- 10:25Speaker 8: We saw, we saw a lot of a lot of sign,
- 10:27Speaker 8: a lot of stuff being laid down. Once we got
- 10:29Speaker 8: to the end of October, it warmed up, and now
- 10:31Speaker 8: early November it's still pretty warm, but the deer are
- 10:35Speaker 8: starting to move.
- 10:35Speaker 5: I've had some.
- 10:36Speaker 8: Buddies have some really good encounters. In fact, a couple
- 10:38Speaker 8: of few good kills that over the last little bit.
- 10:42Speaker 8: So the deer moving. I ran into my target buck
- 10:46Speaker 8: just a couple of days ago and he was moving
- 10:49Speaker 8: around the middle of the day, about nine o'clock in
- 10:51Speaker 8: the morning. So you know, the you know they're on
- 10:54Speaker 8: it if they're if they're moving around like that. So
- 10:56Speaker 8: I think it's as things starting to free up. If
- 10:58Speaker 8: we could just get some cold. Man, we have not
- 11:01Speaker 8: really had a good, good front come through, and it's
- 11:05Speaker 8: kept them, it's kept them pretty much in the night
- 11:07Speaker 8: time cycle.
- 11:08Speaker 9: Really.
- 11:08Speaker 5: Yeah, I know, it kind of feels like it's just
- 11:09Speaker 5: a gradual cooling throughout the fall and has you know,
- 11:12Speaker 5: at least for kind of the southern stuff, it hasn't
- 11:14Speaker 5: ever been like that snap.
- 11:15Speaker 2: You know that it usually seems to get them engaged.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Are the acrons still on the ground and viible or
- 11:21Speaker 2: are those deer off acrons?
- 11:23Speaker 3: Now, they're definitely on the ground.
- 11:25Speaker 8: In fact, you know, we hunt a lot of the bottoms,
- 11:27Speaker 8: and so there's a there's quite a few acorns on
- 11:30Speaker 8: the ground.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Now.
- 11:31Speaker 8: I've hund a few places that up in the mountain
- 11:34Speaker 8: areas and I've found a few places that very little
- 11:37Speaker 8: acrons in those areas. And maybe maybe it's just how
- 11:40Speaker 8: dry we were, but the bottom seemed to be full
- 11:43Speaker 8: of acorns. Up on the ridges, they don't seem to
- 11:45Speaker 8: be so much. So, you know, that's kind of the
- 11:48Speaker 8: the what I'm seeing. And so we've we've really focused down,
- 11:52Speaker 8: you know, being close to sick thick security cover, and
- 11:56Speaker 8: down in the bottom seems like there's a lot more
- 11:58Speaker 8: deer moving around down in there.
- 12:00Speaker 4: Hey, Scott, it's Tyler. Hey Budd Heyman been missing you?
- 12:04Speaker 4: Uh no for sure?
- 12:06Speaker 2: Hey?
- 12:06Speaker 4: Uh So when when does the acrons just stop mattering?
- 12:09Speaker 4: At what point is it just full on rut?
- 12:12Speaker 8: Well it, you know, for us here usually about the
- 12:17Speaker 8: middle of November, maybe just a little bit earlier. It
- 12:19Speaker 8: really depends, you know, in Arkansas, you can you can
- 12:23Speaker 8: put a pin on the map and you can go
- 12:26Speaker 8: thirty miles to the north and you're in a different
- 12:29Speaker 8: rut window, and you can go thirty miles to the
- 12:31Speaker 8: south and being a different rut window.
- 12:33Speaker 3: So it really depends on where you're hunting. Where we hunt.
- 12:38Speaker 8: One area that we hunt in early November is really
- 12:41Speaker 8: when they're they're they're locking down, you know, maybe the
- 12:44Speaker 8: seventh of the tenth or so of November, they're locking
- 12:47Speaker 8: down and they're they're really on the on the on.
- 12:50Speaker 8: The doughs and and acorns aren't quite as important. But
- 12:53Speaker 8: you know, you can go south of US and usually
- 12:56Speaker 8: where it's flood prone regions in the bottoms down there,
- 12:59Speaker 8: it's much late, you know it. It can go late November,
- 13:02Speaker 8: mid to late November before they're really you know, really
- 13:05Speaker 8: on it.
- 13:06Speaker 4: So, so I mean, why do you think that is?
- 13:10Speaker 4: Is that a I mean you're talking about north and
- 13:13Speaker 4: south there. I would assume with South being the later
- 13:16Speaker 4: it could be correlated with weather. But thirty miles the
- 13:20Speaker 4: weather ain't gonna be too much different, right, Yeah.
- 13:23Speaker 8: No, it's not what I from what I've heard, and
- 13:25Speaker 8: this is just me talking to the old timers. What
- 13:27Speaker 8: they really say is is that it really had to
- 13:29Speaker 8: do with the natural river flood and so you know,
- 13:32Speaker 8: for instance, in Arkansas, the winters are not extreme enough
- 13:35Speaker 8: to where you know, dose have to fawn and worry
- 13:38Speaker 8: about the winter. But what they did have to be
- 13:40Speaker 8: concerned about was the floods, you know, and the flooding.
- 13:44Speaker 8: And so most people agree that where I'm talking about,
- 13:47Speaker 8: where you go a little bit further south, and it's funny,
- 13:51Speaker 8: it can be a like a kidney shaped area kind
- 13:55Speaker 8: of sort of in the south central part of.
- 13:58Speaker 3: The state has a much later rut can islander or rut.
- 14:01Speaker 8: Time, And I think that's really because that area floods
- 14:05Speaker 8: and it's and it's very unpredictable in that way. And
- 14:08Speaker 8: so I think that I think them old timers are right.
- 14:10Speaker 8: I think that's what's affecting that that rut schedule for them,
- 14:14Speaker 8: because it's really about about faun viability, you know. And
- 14:17Speaker 8: God the way he organizes that, He puts the funds
- 14:20Speaker 8: on the ground when when they're going to have the
- 14:22Speaker 8: best chance to survive, and that's how it works.
- 14:24Speaker 4: That makes sense.
- 14:25Speaker 5: It's right, Man, be fruitful, multiply, and he made them
- 14:27Speaker 5: to where they could, which is pretty cool. So if
- 14:30Speaker 5: we're looking at really, you know, some of the dates
- 14:33Speaker 5: you mentioned are within this next week, right, and so
- 14:36Speaker 5: if we're looking at that as being one of the
- 14:39Speaker 5: peaks for Arkansas, if you were going to rank buck
- 14:42Speaker 5: moving on a scale of one to ten in the
- 14:43Speaker 5: daylight for the next week, what would you say it's
- 14:45Speaker 5: going to be.
- 14:48Speaker 8: Again, depending on where you hunt, I would say from
- 14:51Speaker 8: about just just north central to just south central. I
- 14:57Speaker 8: would say in the next five to seven days, it
- 15:00Speaker 8: should be a nine or a ten. And it would
- 15:02Speaker 8: And I could really say that without a doubt if we.
- 15:06Speaker 4: Had a front coming through.
- 15:07Speaker 8: Now we do have some weather coming through and water's
- 15:09Speaker 8: coming up, and one of the advantages for us is
- 15:13Speaker 8: that when the water comes up, it shrinks up the
- 15:16Speaker 8: area that the deer can be in, and it helps
- 15:18Speaker 8: you a lot in your hunt. It's difference between daylight
- 15:22Speaker 8: and dark. You know, there area that they're going to
- 15:25Speaker 8: be in is going to be much smaller, and it
- 15:27Speaker 8: makes them a little bit easier to hunt. That's fixing
- 15:29Speaker 8: to happen. In fact, the river's coming up fourteen feet
- 15:32Speaker 8: in the next three days.
- 15:34Speaker 4: So are you trying to make us come see you
- 15:36Speaker 4: or what this and I'm telling.
- 15:38Speaker 3: You where, I'm telling you right now.
- 15:40Speaker 8: The difference between right this minute and three days from now,
- 15:44Speaker 8: not just because of the rut calendar, but because of
- 15:46Speaker 8: the land mass shrinking.
- 15:48Speaker 3: It's dramatically different.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Man.
- 15:51Speaker 4: That's some solid info.
- 15:52Speaker 5: And although it wasn't a solid ten, maybe the first
- 15:56Speaker 5: ten that I can recall for Fresh Radio. I appreciate
- 16:01Speaker 5: the optimism, brother, Thank you for the report.
- 16:04Speaker 3: Absolutely, man, Absolutely.
- 16:24Speaker 2: I'm on the phone with Zach Lewis.
- 16:25Speaker 5: He's a high school friend of mine and he's been
- 16:27Speaker 5: doing some hunting in Texas.
- 16:28Speaker 2: Zach, what's going on, man?
- 16:30Speaker 10: Oh?
- 16:31Speaker 11: No much, just take care of kids and getting out
- 16:33Speaker 11: and hunting when I can.
- 16:34Speaker 4: Hey, that's the life, dude.
- 16:35Speaker 5: We were chatting on that before, and I don't know
- 16:37Speaker 5: if there's something that brings you much more joy than
- 16:40Speaker 5: than to have kids and then get to introduce some
- 16:42Speaker 5: of the outdoors and stuff.
- 16:43Speaker 4: That's very cool.
- 16:44Speaker 5: You've been doing some hunting down there in Texas. Of
- 16:45Speaker 5: course that's home for me, and we're actually pretty far
- 16:49Speaker 5: apart where we're hunting. But you know, Texas is a
- 16:52Speaker 5: big state. But a lot of things are going on
- 16:53Speaker 5: in the white tail world. You were out there this
- 16:56Speaker 5: past week. What do you think that the bucks are
- 16:59Speaker 5: doing right now, Texas.
- 17:02Speaker 11: I think the bucks are really starting to break up
- 17:04Speaker 11: out of their their feeding patterns and really starting to
- 17:07Speaker 11: roam outside of their core areas a little bit, starting
- 17:10Speaker 11: to look for dose. I don't think the dose are
- 17:12Speaker 11: quite ready to start running yet, but the bucks are
- 17:14Speaker 11: just starting.
- 17:15Speaker 3: They're starting to move around more.
- 17:16Speaker 11: We notice, you know, seeing different bucks in different areas
- 17:19Speaker 11: where they haven't been and moving around a lot. But
- 17:22Speaker 11: the dose are definitely not receptive to the bucks just yet.
- 17:25Speaker 11: But the dough the bucks are really really starting to
- 17:28Speaker 11: really starting to search around and where those doughs are located.
- 17:31Speaker 4: At for sure.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Are you seeing like mature bucks on their feet in
- 17:34Speaker 2: daylight much? Yes, yeah, we're seeing bucks on daylight.
- 17:38Speaker 11: We're still getting a lot of nine time activity on
- 17:41Speaker 11: some game cameras and stuff, but we are starting to
- 17:43Speaker 11: get more and more activity during the day, especially in
- 17:45Speaker 11: the later mornings. You know, they'll get more activity through
- 17:48Speaker 11: the night where they'll bet up in the early morning
- 17:50Speaker 11: and start looking around more.
- 17:51Speaker 3: Later in the late morning.
- 17:52Speaker 11: Activity where they're looking for dozs in the late morning
- 17:55Speaker 11: and early afternoons.
- 17:56Speaker 5: Got you do you think that's because they wait on
- 17:58Speaker 5: the dose to go back to bed and then cruise.
- 18:00Speaker 4: Why do you think you're seeing that?
- 18:02Speaker 11: I just think they're breaking out of their summer feeding patterns.
- 18:05Speaker 11: And you know, the does are still kind of we
- 18:06Speaker 11: see a lot of the dose and there's still core
- 18:08Speaker 11: areas where they're not just ranging out as much right now,
- 18:12Speaker 11: but the bucks are definitely looking around to find out
- 18:14Speaker 11: what dose are receptive.
- 18:15Speaker 2: I feel like, yeah, gotcha, what.
- 18:16Speaker 4: Are they laying down a bunch of sign right now? Yeah?
- 18:19Speaker 11: We have seen a lot of scrapes, and we've seen
- 18:21Speaker 11: some bucks make some rubs.
- 18:22Speaker 6: It's up, but we saw I found a whole line of.
- 18:25Speaker 11: Scrapes a line of tree lined yesterday. But I think
- 18:29Speaker 11: they are starting to lay down more sign for sure.
- 18:31Speaker 4: Gotcha.
- 18:32Speaker 5: So Texas recently just opened up his rifles season, and
- 18:35Speaker 5: that always seems to kind of mix things up. Do
- 18:37Speaker 5: you feel like once rifle season opens a guy should
- 18:40Speaker 5: change his tactics and look in different places, or that
- 18:43Speaker 5: you're going to just do what they do?
- 18:46Speaker 2: You know, I don't think it hurts really do either.
- 18:48Speaker 11: You know, I think those bucks are still kind of
- 18:50Speaker 11: in their core range a little bit more. They still
- 18:53Speaker 11: are the core range, but they're starting to range out definitely.
- 18:56Speaker 3: I think, you know, if it wouldn't hurt.
- 18:58Speaker 11: You know, generally in the early season, the deer are
- 19:02Speaker 11: back in their beds by late morning, you know.
- 19:04Speaker 3: Ten o'clock, eleven o'clock or so.
- 19:05Speaker 11: But it wasn't hurt, especially in this later season in November,
- 19:09Speaker 11: to stay in that stand a little bit longer, you know,
- 19:11Speaker 11: wait till eleven, twelve o'clock. Even even if you're able
- 19:14Speaker 11: to sit out all day, you never know it's gonna
- 19:16Speaker 11: walk by.
- 19:17Speaker 5: Yeah, Texas is the home of rattling. Are you big
- 19:20Speaker 5: on calling down there? I am.
- 19:22Speaker 11: I do, especially on the property that we have.
- 19:24Speaker 3: We have a lot of canyons, a lot of ravines
- 19:26Speaker 3: and stuff.
- 19:27Speaker 6: So I do like to take the.
- 19:28Speaker 11: High ground and try and rattle bucks out of those
- 19:30Speaker 11: big bottoms.
- 19:31Speaker 3: And they'll start coming up and looking around for doze
- 19:33Speaker 3: and who's making all that racket?
- 19:34Speaker 4: What time of day do you do that?
- 19:36Speaker 11: I like to do it late morning, you know, eleven o'clock,
- 19:39Speaker 11: twelve o'clock, even into even as late as two o'clock.
- 19:42Speaker 2: You know, M gotcha. So are you still hunting?
- 19:46Speaker 5: Kind of relative to like feed or are you kind
- 19:50Speaker 5: of focusing on betting areas?
- 19:52Speaker 2: So right now, right.
- 19:54Speaker 11: Now where we're still kind of hunting close to their
- 19:57Speaker 11: feeding areas a little bit more because those doughs are
- 20:00Speaker 11: hitting those feeding areas hard and they're still they're coming
- 20:02Speaker 11: and checking those doughs hard instead of more ranging out. So, uh,
- 20:07Speaker 11: probably in the late mornings I will hunt around the
- 20:09Speaker 11: feeding areas in the in the evenings, will hunt more
- 20:12Speaker 11: closer to bedding areas.
- 20:14Speaker 5: Gotcha, Yeah, that makes sense. Are you Are you excited
- 20:17Speaker 5: about the tempts that we have coming up? I feel
- 20:19Speaker 5: like we just still don't have quite the weather that
- 20:22Speaker 5: I like for you know, November in Texas, right, Yeah,
- 20:26Speaker 5: we did.
- 20:27Speaker 11: Notice that, you know, we I was, uh, you know,
- 20:30Speaker 11: I was hunting this weekend and on a property and
- 20:32Speaker 11: we had a lot of deer activity. But today in
- 20:35Speaker 11: that in that area, I've been watching the game cans
- 20:38Speaker 11: and and the there there's a cold front hitting up
- 20:40Speaker 11: there up at North Texas. It's dropped another fifteen degrees
- 20:44Speaker 11: and those it's definitely got the deer moving for sure.
- 20:46Speaker 11: That there's been I've been getting deer pictures through the
- 20:50Speaker 11: whole day, even every single hour I have deer on camera.
- 20:54Speaker 5: Nothing like checking that appen and seeing that there's yep, yeah,
- 21:00Speaker 5: that's fun man. So okay, we got some really good
- 21:02Speaker 5: dates coming up. You know, November is exciting season for
- 21:05Speaker 5: whitetail hunters and of course for the bucks as well
- 21:07Speaker 5: because they get to chase the dose around. But you know,
- 21:10Speaker 5: a little bit of weather. We do have some cold
- 21:12Speaker 5: fronts that are pushing through. Like you're saying though, So
- 21:14Speaker 5: if you had to rate buck movement on a scale
- 21:17Speaker 5: of one to ten for the next week for deer
- 21:19Speaker 5: hunters in Texas, what would you call it?
- 21:22Speaker 11: I would give it, you know, seven eight. You know,
- 21:24Speaker 11: as long as you get get ahead of that front.
- 21:26Speaker 11: You know, there's there's big storms coming in and in
- 21:29Speaker 11: our area, the deer don't like to move in those
- 21:31Speaker 11: big storms. You know, we hunted this weekend and it
- 21:33Speaker 11: rained all day Saturday. We just see a whole lot
- 21:35Speaker 11: of movement at all, like hardly at all. Those deers
- 21:38Speaker 11: like to bet up and those raines and everything, and
- 21:40Speaker 11: you know, we're getting out of the weather. But Sunday
- 21:42Speaker 11: was clear, and then we saw deer moving all day
- 21:45Speaker 11: Sunday and I ended up taking a big mule deer yesterday.
- 21:48Speaker 11: So yeah, so the deer are really moving after that
- 21:51Speaker 11: that weather moved.
- 21:52Speaker 6: Through and coming into that cold front.
- 21:54Speaker 5: Optimistic numbers, man, I like it. It's a good time
- 21:56Speaker 5: to be in the woods. Congrats on the big deer, dude,
- 21:58Speaker 5: and I thank you for the report.
- 22:02Speaker 3: No problem, man, I appreciate it.
- 22:04Speaker 5: On the phone, I've got Jared Larson with on X
- 22:07Speaker 5: and he is out in Wisconsin hunting watt tails right now.
- 22:12Speaker 5: Sounds like he just pulled to set out of the
- 22:14Speaker 5: tree because he is trying to chase him down.
- 22:17Speaker 3: Dude, what's happening case, brother, It's good to hear from you.
- 22:21Speaker 10: We're dealing with a lot of wets conditions over here,
- 22:24Speaker 10: and yeah, hanging hunts are kind of the name of
- 22:26Speaker 10: the game where I'm at right now, just hunting a
- 22:28Speaker 10: permission property that you know, there's there's no set stands
- 22:32Speaker 10: on it. And I come from Montana for seven day
- 22:35Speaker 10: hunts every year, and so that's.
- 22:36Speaker 3: What me and my four buddies got.
- 22:38Speaker 10: It's about four d and forty acres on the western
- 22:41Speaker 10: side of Wisconsin here and it's uh, yeah, it's been
- 22:45Speaker 10: it's been tough the.
- 22:45Speaker 5: Last couple of days. Well, I'm sorry, it's been tough.
- 22:49Speaker 5: Do you feel like that is weather related? Is that
- 22:53Speaker 5: just the dates that you have or what's the deal
- 22:55Speaker 5: with that.
- 22:57Speaker 10: Yeah, so I got here on Halloween, and then Halloween
- 23:00Speaker 10: the thirty first of October there and November first, where
- 23:03Speaker 10: we're off the chains here. I mean I saw a
- 23:05Speaker 10: bunch of bucks, mature bucks, on their feet seeking.
- 23:10Speaker 3: You know, I never really saw one.
- 23:12Speaker 10: Acting like they found a hot dough. It was more
- 23:14Speaker 10: just that uh, you know, tail bumping game. And then
- 23:19Speaker 10: you know, we had that wind switch from from predominantly
- 23:23Speaker 10: west winds to southeast winds where I'm at, uh starting
- 23:28Speaker 10: on uh, I think it was like late Saturday night,
- 23:32Speaker 10: early ear late Friday night rather early Saturday morning. And
- 23:37Speaker 10: then with that, you know, we got a fair amount
- 23:39Speaker 10: of low pressure on Saturday, Sunday and into Monday here,
- 23:43Speaker 10: and those southeast winds persisted up until about an hour ago,
- 23:47Speaker 10: and we just had really damp, wet, froggy air. And
- 23:52Speaker 10: like one of the guys this morning had a great sit.
- 23:55Speaker 10: You know, he had a hot dough nearby, multiple bucks
- 23:58Speaker 10: running around.
- 23:58Speaker 3: I mean, he's got a bucking boat range.
- 24:00Speaker 10: It sounds like for the last three hours, so I
- 24:03Speaker 10: think right now where I'm at in particular, you know,
- 24:06Speaker 10: it's it's the old classic kind of first part of
- 24:10Speaker 10: the rut there where you're either really in them or
- 24:12Speaker 10: you're really not in them. But I really do think
- 24:16Speaker 10: the wind shifted at about nine this morning from that
- 24:20Speaker 10: southeast to a straight west, and immediately the sky started clearing,
- 24:25Speaker 10: you know.
- 24:25Speaker 3: The real foggy low clouds.
- 24:28Speaker 10: Lifted, and so I think tonight will be a much
- 24:31Speaker 10: more productive sit and then tomorrow we got more rain,
- 24:35Speaker 10: but northwest winds. I mean, something my dad always said
- 24:39Speaker 10: is wins from the least, or winds from the east,
- 24:41Speaker 10: deer move the least. Whether that's just what I was
- 24:45Speaker 10: growing up under the notion of or it actually maybe
- 24:50Speaker 10: has a little bit of truth to it. I certainly
- 24:52Speaker 10: am super pumped to get rid of this southeast wind,
- 24:55Speaker 10: have some northwest predominance here over the next three four days,
- 24:59Speaker 10: and uh, really on the outlook side of things, you know,
- 25:03Speaker 10: like Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, higher pressure, clearing, skies, lows in
- 25:08Speaker 10: the thirties, highs in the fifties. I'm I'm fired up
- 25:11Speaker 10: to get through these last couple of days of wet here.
- 25:14Speaker 3: Uh and see if bucks really start running.
- 25:17Speaker 4: So is it supposed to Is it supposed to cool
- 25:19Speaker 4: off when that all that froggy ear gets out of there.
- 25:22Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 25:23Speaker 10: So this morning when we left the you know shed
- 25:26Speaker 10: that we stay in, it was I think it was
- 25:28Speaker 10: sixty three degrees or something like that.
- 25:30Speaker 3: I mean it was really hot.
- 25:32Speaker 10: And muggy going in, and I mean as soon as
- 25:34Speaker 10: that west wind switched you could feel that, you know,
- 25:38Speaker 10: humidity kind of get pushed out of the air. So
- 25:41Speaker 10: temps are supposed to start dropping. Tonight Tomorrow is going
- 25:44Speaker 10: to be nothing short of a really cold, soggy sit.
- 25:48Speaker 10: I think the highs like forty seven and it's supposed
- 25:50Speaker 10: to rain all day. But regardless, I think that that
- 25:55Speaker 10: Wednesday timeframe, once that higher pressure and uh and this
- 25:59Speaker 10: weather system moves out.
- 26:01Speaker 3: Of here, I'm I'm super plumped to be in a tree.
- 26:03Speaker 10: Not that I'm not tonight or tomorrow, because once you're
- 26:06Speaker 10: in the first week in November, as you guys know,
- 26:08Speaker 10: anything can happen.
- 26:09Speaker 3: And the only way it can't happen is if you're not.
- 26:11Speaker 5: Out there exactly right, Dude, you got a hunt, so
- 26:14Speaker 5: you pull you just pulled a sit. Tell me real quick,
- 26:17Speaker 5: are you going off of historical data for where you're
- 26:20Speaker 5: moving to. Are you making observations and making moves on them,
- 26:23Speaker 5: or are you just going and finding the best pitch
- 26:25Speaker 5: point you can hang it new set in.
- 26:28Speaker 10: Yeah. No, Hilariously, this morning and there's a buck I've
- 26:30Speaker 10: been hunting on this farm.
- 26:32Speaker 3: We've known about him for four years.
- 26:34Speaker 10: I've been hunting pretty much him exclusively for three and
- 26:38Speaker 10: November fourth we just have like there are daylight photos
- 26:42Speaker 10: of this year on very few occasions throughout the year,
- 26:45Speaker 10: but November fourth, the last three years, I have a
- 26:48Speaker 10: daylight picture of them of him. So that's uh, that's
- 26:51Speaker 10: why I was sitting where.
- 26:52Speaker 3: I sat this morning.
- 26:53Speaker 10: He didn't he didn't make it another year in a row,
- 26:55Speaker 10: unfortunately for me. But kind of our program where we're hunting,
- 27:00Speaker 10: there's not a lot of food on our property. It's
- 27:02Speaker 10: basically a big major creek drain system with a few
- 27:06Speaker 10: hardwood ridges, but all of the tops are owned by
- 27:10Speaker 10: adjacent nighbors.
- 27:11Speaker 3: That have all the the egg.
- 27:13Speaker 10: There's a couple of small borassica plots on the ground
- 27:16Speaker 10: that that we're able to hunt, but our go to
- 27:19Speaker 10: is pretty much the mornings we get up high and uh,
- 27:22Speaker 10: and hunt the ridges, just trying to key in on
- 27:24Speaker 10: that dough betting on the on the tips of these
- 27:27Speaker 10: big predominantly oaken walnut a little bit of hickory mixed
- 27:32Speaker 10: in just hunting, you know, the down wind side of
- 27:36Speaker 10: dough betting. And then the evenings we just try to
- 27:39Speaker 10: be prescriptive in the evenings and uh and again, really
- 27:44Speaker 10: there's not a lot of food to hunt, so we're
- 27:47Speaker 10: trying to just hunt some funneling pinch points where we
- 27:49Speaker 10: might catch some bucks cruising, you know, from one ridge
- 27:53Speaker 10: to the next in the evening, and and really just
- 27:55Speaker 10: try to keep our presence a little less felt in
- 27:57Speaker 10: the evenings. So I'm not entirely sure where I'll end
- 28:01Speaker 10: up tonight, but it'll probably be probably be more of
- 28:05Speaker 10: an observation sit than anything, just to try to get
- 28:07Speaker 10: a better.
- 28:08Speaker 3: Feel for what might be the play here in the
- 28:10Speaker 3: coming days.
- 28:11Speaker 4: Awesome, dude. So you know that's the thing about hanging hunt, man,
- 28:14Speaker 4: is like, you know, it's a struggling to all a sudden,
- 28:17Speaker 4: it's kind of not and there's a reward that's pretty awesome.
- 28:19Speaker 4: But you know, with that being said, man, in this
- 28:22Speaker 4: this kind of style that you're undertaking here of hanging
- 28:25Speaker 4: hunt in the next week. If you had to guess
- 28:28Speaker 4: based off weather, moon, rut, whatever it might be, or
- 28:32Speaker 4: even food, what is buck movement going to be like
- 28:35Speaker 4: on a scale of one to ten.
- 28:38Speaker 10: Now, I'm somehow I am an eternal optimist when.
- 28:41Speaker 9: It comes to let's going I think you have to
- 28:45Speaker 9: be to some extent. So I'm going to say, you know,
- 28:48Speaker 9: the next few days here, I'll say, starting on Wednesday,
- 28:51Speaker 9: I'm gonna give it like a nine point seven. Like
- 28:56Speaker 9: I really think after this low pressure, really wet, just
- 29:00Speaker 9: drear system moves out of here and we get some
- 29:03Speaker 9: sunshine and some some northerly winds, it's gonna break loose.
- 29:08Speaker 10: Call it on the sixth, seventh eighth. You heard it
- 29:10Speaker 10: here that if you're not well, you didn't hear it here.
- 29:13Speaker 10: You've heard it in every.
- 29:15Speaker 3: Run publication of all time.
- 29:17Speaker 10: Throughout history that November six seven eight, you better get
- 29:20Speaker 10: to a tree.
- 29:22Speaker 5: Some things are cliches for reason. Man, It's because that's
- 29:25Speaker 5: the time they go down.
- 29:27Speaker 3: That's right, boys.
- 29:28Speaker 10: But yeah, I would say, you know, park it, park
- 29:31Speaker 10: it all day if you can, if you can muster it. Otherwise,
- 29:34Speaker 10: go find yourself some dough betting by morning. If you
- 29:36Speaker 10: have a good food source to hunt by the evening,
- 29:39Speaker 10: that's kinda kind of would.
- 29:40Speaker 6: Be my play.
- 29:41Speaker 10: And at the end of the day, if you're set,
- 29:44Speaker 10: doesn't have perfect conditions over these next few days. If
- 29:47Speaker 10: you're if you're a bow hunter, sometimes you just gotta
- 29:51Speaker 10: go try to make it happen and uh and push.
- 29:53Speaker 3: The envelope a little bit.
- 29:55Speaker 2: Yeah, guarantee, dude, Hey, appreciate the report. Go get them killed, dude, case.
- 29:59Speaker 3: Tyle as always fell as.
- 30:00Speaker 10: It's a pleasure of good luck out there, and shoot straight.
- 30:02Speaker 3: Everybody on the phone.
- 30:05Speaker 2: I've got Phil Tuttle. He's in Illinois. Phil.
- 30:07Speaker 4: What's going on, man?
- 30:09Speaker 7: Not much, just actually driving out to a hunting spot locally,
- 30:13Speaker 7: kind of waiting for the rain to pass here.
- 30:14Speaker 2: Oh gotcha, man, You're going in at a good time, man,
- 30:17Speaker 2: aren't you.
- 30:18Speaker 6: I hope. So we'll see.
- 30:19Speaker 5: Okay, So I got a question related to that. But first,
- 30:22Speaker 5: in general, what are the bucks you're you're seeing?
- 30:25Speaker 4: What are they doing right now?
- 30:27Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm seeing a lot of cruising bucks by themselves
- 30:31Speaker 7: of all different ages. You know, one and a half
- 30:33Speaker 7: year old's up to mature. Dear, cruising by themselves. I'm
- 30:36Speaker 7: also seeing them tailing, you know, single dose and dough
- 30:40Speaker 7: family groups. I've seen a couple like all out chases
- 30:43Speaker 7: for sure, but I don't think we're quite at the
- 30:46Speaker 7: all out chase pace quite yet.
- 30:48Speaker 6: But a lot of cruising and a lot.
- 30:49Speaker 4: Of tailing that makes sense.
- 30:51Speaker 5: Yes, So I think your situation this afternoon is something
- 30:55Speaker 5: that a lot of hunters across the middle part of
- 30:57Speaker 5: the country are going to face and today or tomorrow
- 30:59Speaker 5: the next day, where we have this weather system that
- 31:02Speaker 5: moves through and then there's a break in it right afterwards.
- 31:04Speaker 4: What's your strategy for falling up that rain?
- 31:08Speaker 7: Yeah, you know, if the workfront and the family front
- 31:11Speaker 7: can handle it and I'm able to hunt, man, I'm
- 31:13Speaker 7: gonna get out there right as soon as the rain stops.
- 31:15Speaker 6: And so that's the theory tonight.
- 31:18Speaker 7: I wouldn't say it's a great like if you look
- 31:21Speaker 7: at forecasts and some of the prediction software, you know,
- 31:24Speaker 7: it's not a great night to hunt, per se, But
- 31:26Speaker 7: it's man pretty sure it's November fifth of the rains
- 31:29Speaker 7: about the stop. So I'm gonna get my bucket tree, dude, I'm.
- 31:32Speaker 4: Fixing to be there too. Man's I'm at least in
- 31:35Speaker 4: spirit because I'm gonna have to drive a little bit today.
- 31:36Speaker 4: But I'll tell you what, man, those predictions, you know,
- 31:41Speaker 4: it's interesting. It's a good way to hype yourself up.
- 31:44Speaker 4: But I mean, a deer sometimes it's only got to
- 31:46Speaker 4: move just a little bit for you to get a
- 31:48Speaker 4: shot at him, you know, So even if movement is lackluster,
- 31:51Speaker 4: you know, you're maybe one hundred yards from killing a
- 31:54Speaker 4: big deer. So it's a good thing. Man. Are the
- 31:56Speaker 4: acrons a factor up there where you're at, not so much.
- 32:00Speaker 7: I mean, if you do have some white oaks early on,
- 32:04Speaker 7: that would be something to key in on.
- 32:06Speaker 6: There's just there are a lot of white oaks up here.
- 32:08Speaker 7: But I mean this is pretty open country, and so
- 32:10Speaker 7: it's mainly ag and you know, corn and beans.
- 32:13Speaker 6: And then whatever you've planted.
- 32:14Speaker 4: If you're into plots, okay, So talk about how the
- 32:17Speaker 4: deer interacting with food right now, whether it's you know,
- 32:19Speaker 4: ag or food plots.
- 32:22Speaker 7: Sure, this is probably the earliest harvest I've seen personally
- 32:25Speaker 7: up here. I mean, i'd have to say in my
- 32:28Speaker 7: area that I'd say eighty to ninety percent of the
- 32:30Speaker 7: crops are out and that's corn and beans together. And
- 32:32Speaker 7: so that's I mean, that's great news to a hunter
- 32:35Speaker 7: like me. So yeah, it's they're starting to hit green
- 32:39Speaker 7: food sources.
- 32:40Speaker 6: If you've got a planet and then cut corn, man,
- 32:42Speaker 6: cut corn is great? Right now?
- 32:44Speaker 4: Is there are are the combines still inefficient enough to
- 32:47Speaker 4: leave quite a bit of grain that's going to last
- 32:49Speaker 4: a long time this year?
- 32:52Speaker 6: There still is.
- 32:54Speaker 7: I mean right after they come through, I don't think
- 32:56Speaker 7: it lasts maybe more than a couple of weeks to
- 32:58Speaker 7: a month after, but they still leave plenty on the grounds.
- 33:02Speaker 4: Gotcha?
- 33:02Speaker 6: Gotcha?
- 33:03Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 33:04Speaker 4: Cool?
- 33:04Speaker 5: So are you planning on trying to group your hunts
- 33:11Speaker 5: this week and trying to you know, make observations and
- 33:15Speaker 5: make moves and string together some hunts with some information
- 33:18Speaker 5: or are you kind of like we talked about well ago, predicting,
- 33:22Speaker 5: you know, looking at the predictions and all that kind
- 33:23Speaker 5: of stuff and trying to pick and choose what days
- 33:25Speaker 5: you go.
- 33:27Speaker 7: I've kind of cleared the schedule, man, to be honest,
- 33:29Speaker 7: and this is this is this is go time.
- 33:31Speaker 6: And so I'm gonna if you.
- 33:33Speaker 7: Know, if my if the if the family front of
- 33:34Speaker 7: the hopefront's good, I'm going to be out there this week.
- 33:36Speaker 7: I'm probably preferring mornings, to be honest with you, and
- 33:40Speaker 7: just trying to get as close to dough betting as possible,
- 33:43Speaker 7: and you know, be down wind of dough betting.
- 33:46Speaker 6: And I think the.
- 33:46Speaker 7: Bucks are going to be cruising and doing their thing
- 33:49Speaker 7: as it relates to dough betting.
- 33:51Speaker 5: You know, you said this was kind of open country.
- 33:54Speaker 5: Do you like to call it bucks? You see, like
- 33:56Speaker 5: maybe even at a distance in that open country? And
- 33:58Speaker 5: do you feel like they're responsive it?
- 34:00Speaker 9: Oh?
- 34:01Speaker 6: Yeah, I love way too early. I called them way
- 34:03Speaker 6: too early. I'm bad about that.
- 34:07Speaker 5: You know.
- 34:07Speaker 7: If twenty minutes go by and I haven't seen anything,
- 34:09Speaker 7: I'm pulling out.
- 34:10Speaker 6: The rattling horse.
- 34:12Speaker 7: But yes, I absolutely will throw the kitchen sink at
- 34:15Speaker 7: a deer.
- 34:15Speaker 4: At this point in the season, gotcha, guys.
- 34:17Speaker 7: I mean start with a grunt, then probably tickle the
- 34:20Speaker 7: horns and then I'll snort, wheeze and you know, get
- 34:23Speaker 7: the next one if they don't come in.
- 34:24Speaker 10: M hm.
- 34:25Speaker 4: So would you rather sit a green food source right
- 34:30Speaker 4: now that dose are hitting and hoping that there's you know,
- 34:33Speaker 4: a buck that's going to be cruising the edge of
- 34:35Speaker 4: that field, or would you rather be sitting in pinch
- 34:37Speaker 4: points funnels that kind of thing right now.
- 34:40Speaker 7: I'm at pinch points in funnels phase personally, but it
- 34:45Speaker 7: ideally if those pinch points in funnels can be close
- 34:49Speaker 7: to betting, makes it even better.
- 34:52Speaker 4: Gotcha, that makes sense. So in the next week, on
- 34:55Speaker 4: a scale of one to ten, what do you think
- 34:56Speaker 4: buck move is going to be like there in Illinois? Man?
- 34:59Speaker 7: I'm at an eight and a ha half in the
- 35:00Speaker 7: next week, and the only thing keeping it from being
- 35:03Speaker 7: a full blown ten is just the temperatures are not
- 35:05Speaker 7: quite as cold as we'd like them to be.
- 35:07Speaker 6: But it's pretty darn good.
- 35:08Speaker 8: M m man.
- 35:09Speaker 2: These are good dates and good times.
- 35:11Speaker 4: Brother.
- 35:11Speaker 5: Thank you for the awesome report, and I hope you
- 35:13Speaker 5: find that buck tonight man.
- 35:15Speaker 6: My pleasure. Thanks Case, Thanks Tyler.
- 35:18Speaker 5: This is hot week. As you can tell, we had
- 35:21Speaker 5: some awesome scores around the country. It is the time
- 35:24Speaker 5: to be in the woods.
- 35:24Speaker 2: Guys.
- 35:24Speaker 5: We're not gonna beat the dead horse, but you need
- 35:27Speaker 5: to go out there and find you did near. That's
- 35:29Speaker 5: what I need to say say right now. A few
- 35:31Speaker 5: things to keep in mind, all right, Take a deep breath.
- 35:36Speaker 5: It's still a long rut.
- 35:38Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, you know, like.
- 35:39Speaker 5: We we aren't running sprints. It's like a mile, which
- 35:43Speaker 5: used to be like a long distance from but nowadays
- 35:45Speaker 5: it's more like a sprint, right, So you just have
- 35:47Speaker 5: to work hard the whole time. But there's some things
- 35:50Speaker 5: to keep in mind. For one, make sure your family's
- 35:52Speaker 5: taken care of, love on them, Call your wife and
- 35:55Speaker 5: kids if you're on the road. Another thing, make sure
- 35:59Speaker 5: you're making good choice is both in life but especially
- 36:02Speaker 5: in the deer woods pertaining to this podcast, Like, don't
- 36:04Speaker 5: do anything drastic, don't do anything dumb just because it's like, ah,
- 36:08Speaker 5: it's gonna work either.
- 36:10Speaker 4: Way, because that's not really at work.
- 36:11Speaker 5: You gotta make some good choices, good decisions when you're
- 36:13Speaker 5: out there, and some things that might help you do that.
- 36:16Speaker 5: On the Wired to Hunt page, Tony Peterson has a
- 36:20Speaker 5: article out that I actually really needed. It's about decoying
- 36:26Speaker 5: and how to do decoying right, because it's something I'm
- 36:28Speaker 5: really interested in. It's something that really works as time
- 36:31Speaker 5: of year, but I have not really had a ton
- 36:34Speaker 5: of success with it, and so I am very much
- 36:37Speaker 5: interested in how to do that, and I think that
- 36:40Speaker 5: Tony Peterson article is pretty helpful.
- 36:42Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, Another thing that could help you is
- 36:44Speaker 4: the Element podcast. This week we talked a lot about
- 36:47Speaker 4: what hunting in less pressured deer country is like, and
- 36:53Speaker 4: a little bit about what hunting more pressure deer country
- 36:56Speaker 4: is like and what we can do there. And it
- 36:58Speaker 4: reminded me of that when you said, you know, just
- 37:00Speaker 4: doing something crazy for the sake of doing something crazy
- 37:02Speaker 4: didn't matter. It's like walking in five miles is not
- 37:05Speaker 4: necessarily the best thing to do. It doesn't mean you're
- 37:06Speaker 4: in a hut last pressure.
- 37:08Speaker 5: It used to be and still probably sometimes is me.
- 37:10Speaker 5: I have a little bit of that throw caution from
- 37:12Speaker 5: the wind and make it work kind.
- 37:13Speaker 4: Of thing, and it works sometimes for you does but
- 37:15Speaker 4: you have a lot of dates, you know what I mean?
- 37:17Speaker 5: One and it's one way to gain a lot of experience,
- 37:20Speaker 5: is my message whole, for sure. But at the same time,
- 37:24Speaker 5: if you don't have uh, you know, maybe you have
- 37:26Speaker 5: nine days total is fall to hunt.
- 37:28Speaker 4: You want to make some good choices, right Another good
- 37:31Speaker 4: choice you can make would be to watch the Element's
- 37:33Speaker 4: YouTube videos the last two and actually involve mister K. C.
- 37:38Speaker 4: Smith himself, one of which he kills probably what you
- 37:41Speaker 4: consider it the biggest year of your life.
- 37:44Speaker 5: You know, it depends on what biggest is pertaining to,
- 37:47Speaker 5: but he is overall the coolest.
- 37:49Speaker 4: Year in my life, maybe the biggest, the coolest one.
- 37:52Speaker 4: And then there's another one where you're hunting a very
- 37:55Speaker 4: kind of Southwestern looking place. I don't know exactly where
- 37:58Speaker 4: it is, but I would say that maybe they chose
- 38:03Speaker 4: you to do Retfresh because you have hunted everywhere from
- 38:06Speaker 4: you know what looks like Baha to you know what
- 38:10Speaker 4: looks like North Pole. So yeah, you got that experience.
- 38:13Speaker 5: Man, I've been to some North Pole type places and
- 38:17Speaker 5: I ain't I'm you know that everybody's like, that's a
- 38:19Speaker 5: little bit warmer than what we like to be.
- 38:21Speaker 2: I'm kind of like, you know, I actually don't mind it.
- 38:23Speaker 4: This is perfect for me.
- 38:25Speaker 2: It might be a little cold, I guarantee.
- 38:27Speaker 5: You well, guys, get out there, get after it. This
- 38:30Speaker 5: is ret Fresh, Keep it fresh.
