Transcript
- 0:04Speaker 1: Hello, friends from across the nation and around the world.
- 0:08Speaker 1: I'm Martin, and you are listening to Dad's bedtime stories. Tonight,
- 0:13Speaker 1: we're going to be jumping back into one of my
- 0:16Speaker 1: new series, the shape Shifter Universe, a world where you've
- 0:21Speaker 1: recently been given the power to shape shift into anything
- 0:25Speaker 1: you've touched, I guess, any animal or anything like that.
- 0:29Speaker 1: And I finally got my first suggestion for it, so
- 0:32Speaker 1: I thought we'd go with it. Let's check it out.
- 0:35Speaker 2: B'm my name in August. I live in Calgary, Canada,
- 0:40Speaker 2: and I'm eight years old. I would like a story
- 0:43Speaker 2: for the Shifting series where there's green aliens and everything
- 0:50Speaker 2: they touch turns into bobs of goo and you stop them.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Thank you. I love your podcast, ten stars.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Thank you, August. Honestly, when I said people should write
- 1:07Speaker 1: in and give me suggestions for the shapeshifter universe, I
- 1:10Speaker 1: thought it would be about turning into different animals and
- 1:14Speaker 1: stuff like that. But you came up with aliens who
- 1:18Speaker 1: turned things to go, which I think is pretty fun too.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Before we get started, I just have some show notes
- 1:25Speaker 1: to give to some of the listeners. As many of
- 1:27Speaker 1: you know, I'm doing a March social share contest where
- 1:30Speaker 1: if you share the podcast with other people you think
- 1:33Speaker 1: might like it on social media or whatever, you get
- 1:37Speaker 1: entered in a draw for a possible guaranteed story idea
- 1:41Speaker 1: and an interview for me. And I've had some more
- 1:44Speaker 1: people join the contest. So thank you to Keisha J.
- 1:49Speaker 1: For joining the contest, perhaps on the part of a child,
- 1:52Speaker 1: or maybe you are the child. It's hard to know sometimes.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Thank you to Christina J. For joining the contest. Thank
- 2:01Speaker 1: you to Wilder for joining the contest, and thank you
- 2:06Speaker 1: to Olivia N and Mom Lisa for joining the contest.
- 2:12Speaker 1: You guys have all shared the podcast and I now
- 2:15Speaker 1: consider you Dad's Bedtime Stories ambassadors. People willing to find
- 2:19Speaker 1: someone who looks like they need a better night's sleep
- 2:23Speaker 1: and suggest the podcast to them. If you want to
- 2:26Speaker 1: check out that contest as well, in case you're interested
- 2:28Speaker 1: in joining or taking submissions to the end of March.
- 2:32Speaker 1: All of the details are in the show notes. But
- 2:34Speaker 1: now it's that time again, after a possible word from
- 2:39Speaker 1: a possible sponsor, because podcasts need to be funded, after all,
- 2:45Speaker 1: close your eyes, get as comfy as you can in
- 2:49Speaker 1: that bed, and imagine yourself doing what the kid in
- 2:53Speaker 1: the story does. Imagine yourself waking up in your very
- 2:59Speaker 1: own bed, in your very own home. Just the other day,
- 3:04Speaker 1: you met a wizard that was disguised as a dog
- 3:07Speaker 1: who gave you shape shifting powers. It's been pretty fun
- 3:11Speaker 1: to experiment with them. Since first you collected the form
- 3:16Speaker 1: of a cat, then a bird, then a gorilla, and
- 3:22Speaker 1: a tiger, and since then, any animal you've come across
- 3:27Speaker 1: you've gently called over to yourself, placed your hand on it,
- 3:33Speaker 1: and absorbed their DNA signature, allowing you to turn into
- 3:39Speaker 1: them as well. Luckily for you, it also seems to
- 3:44Speaker 1: have given you the ability to calm down animals and
- 3:48Speaker 1: speak to them, making it a lot easier to acquire
- 3:52Speaker 1: the powers. Today, you're hoping to gain even more animal forms.
- 4:00Speaker 1: You head out of your room and pass the room
- 4:03Speaker 1: with the TV in it. This just in Strange alien
- 4:09Speaker 1: ships have arrived over cities around the world. Strange green
- 4:15Speaker 1: alien creatures have been appearing and reportedly turning people into goo.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Uh is that right? They're actually turning people into goo?
- 4:27Speaker 1: The reporter asked to somebody off screen. Yes, apparently that
- 4:31Speaker 1: is correct. They are turning people and even things into goo.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Stay tuned for more. The TV switches to images of tall,
- 4:44Speaker 1: green alien creatures touching cars and melting them into goo,
- 4:50Speaker 1: or putting their hand on innocent people and turning them
- 4:54Speaker 1: into goo as well. Even stranger than that, the goo
- 5:00Speaker 1: seems to come to life. After the things are melted,
- 5:04Speaker 1: they sort of move around, join together, creating gigantic blobs.
- 5:12Speaker 1: The blobs begin capturing more people and more things for
- 5:17Speaker 1: the aliens to turn into. Go Oh, no, you say,
- 5:24Speaker 1: I can't be good. You hear a voice coming from
- 5:28Speaker 1: the window. Where are you plading on helping it all?
- 5:34Speaker 1: The voice says, you look over to see a bird
- 5:38Speaker 1: sitting in the window. The bird hops inside and slowly
- 5:44Speaker 1: transforms into that same wizard wearing green robes. Now, I
- 5:51Speaker 1: told you when you accepted the power that you would
- 5:54Speaker 1: be drawn into adventure. I believe this may be one
- 6:00Speaker 1: of those situations. These green goop aliens have bothered me before.
- 6:08Speaker 1: But don't worry. There is a simple way to uh well,
- 6:14Speaker 1: defeat them by giving them a taste of their own medicine. Ah,
- 6:21Speaker 1: what do you mean, a taste of their own medicine? Oh,
- 6:25Speaker 1: you'll figure it out, toodlu. The wizard transforms once again,
- 6:32Speaker 1: back into an eagle, of sorts. It flaps its wings,
- 6:36Speaker 1: flies out the window, and disappears into the distance. Wait
- 6:43Speaker 1: a second, as he's saying, it's up to me to
- 6:46Speaker 1: stop these green alien guys and giving them a taste
- 6:51Speaker 1: of their own medicine is the way to do it. Ah, Okay,
- 6:58Speaker 1: You head outside. You focus on the form of the
- 7:02Speaker 1: bird that you absorbed the other day, and your body
- 7:06Speaker 1: begins to feel sort of wobbly, less solid. Then you
- 7:14Speaker 1: begin to change shape. Your arms stretch out into wings
- 7:19Speaker 1: that then shrink down to the tiny wings of a bird.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Your legs become little bird legs, Your head stretches out
- 7:27Speaker 1: into a beak, and you begin to flap your little wings,
- 7:32Speaker 1: soaring higher and higher into the sky until you're high
- 7:37Speaker 1: enough up to glide. You realize that you're really going
- 7:41Speaker 1: to need a better bird form than this. Certainly it
- 7:45Speaker 1: gets you from place to place, but it's not a
- 7:48Speaker 1: very big bird or a very scary bird. You'll have
- 7:52Speaker 1: to research something more scary, something larger and able to
- 7:56Speaker 1: fly or really long distances. But that's a problem for
- 8:01Speaker 1: another time. You realize you glide high above the world,
- 8:07Speaker 1: looking down on the tiny people and tiny houses below,
- 8:12Speaker 1: until you eventually come towards some of the chaos that
- 8:15Speaker 1: the news was reporting. You see large alien ships floating
- 8:20Speaker 1: in the air over the downtown center. Below, you see
- 8:26Speaker 1: groups of aliens moving through the streets, turning everything into
- 8:31Speaker 1: goo and then commanding the giant piles of goo to
- 8:35Speaker 1: attack people and things. It's all really strange looking. You
- 8:42Speaker 1: think for a second, which of your forms could possibly
- 8:45Speaker 1: take on these strange aliens. The strongest ones you can
- 8:50Speaker 1: think of are the gorilla or the tiger. So as
- 8:55Speaker 1: you swoop down towards one of the aliens, turning everything
- 8:59Speaker 1: in to go, you allow yourself to transform. As you
- 9:05Speaker 1: fall from the sky, your body reforms itself into a
- 9:09Speaker 1: very powerful gorilla. You swing on a lamp post, perform
- 9:15Speaker 1: a perfect backflip and land straight in front of one
- 9:20Speaker 1: of the aliens. You beat your chest using your arms
- 9:25Speaker 1: and run straight for the alien ready to attack. You
- 9:30Speaker 1: jump in the air attempting to tackle the creature, when
- 9:34Speaker 1: a stream of goo hits you from the side, pins
- 9:37Speaker 1: you up against a building. You can't get free, at
- 9:42Speaker 1: least not in this form. You allow your body to
- 9:47Speaker 1: become less solid again, and as you sort of melt
- 9:52Speaker 1: into the bird form once again, you get loose from
- 9:56Speaker 1: the goo and fly up into the air. Obviously, you're
- 10:00Speaker 1: gonna need another tactic, maybe something stronger, maybe the tiger.
- 10:07Speaker 1: You swoop down towards the alien, allow yourself to transform
- 10:11Speaker 1: into the tiger, and begin running with your powerful tiger legs.
- 10:16Speaker 1: As soon as you land on the ground, you charge
- 10:20Speaker 1: directly towards the alien again, when once again, Goop shoots
- 10:26Speaker 1: you from the side and slams you up against another building.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Trapped once again, you transform back into the bird, slip
- 10:37Speaker 1: out of the goop, and fly high up in the air. Obviously,
- 10:42Speaker 1: you're gonna have to think about this a little more.
- 10:45Speaker 1: How exactly are you gonna give them a taste of
- 10:48Speaker 1: their own medicine, especially if you can't touch the creatures.
- 10:54Speaker 1: The thought pops into your mind that if you could
- 10:58Speaker 1: put your hand on one of the creatures, maybe you
- 11:01Speaker 1: could transform into them. Maybe you could get goo powers
- 11:06Speaker 1: as well. But to do that, you'd have to sneak
- 11:11Speaker 1: up on them. They'd have to not see you coming.
- 11:16Speaker 1: How exactly could you achieve that goal, you wonder? Your
- 11:21Speaker 1: bird form is pretty agile. Maybe you could just swoop
- 11:25Speaker 1: down and land on them before they can hit you
- 11:28Speaker 1: with a blast of goo, or maybe there's something smaller
- 11:33Speaker 1: and less noticeable. You land on a nearby building and
- 11:40Speaker 1: you see a little spider web. Trapped in the web
- 11:46Speaker 1: is a fly, maybe you wonder. Walking up towards the fly,
- 11:54Speaker 1: you lift up one of your legs and place it
- 11:57Speaker 1: on the back of the thigh. You focus on absorbing
- 12:01Speaker 1: the fli's DNA, and you allow your body to become
- 12:06Speaker 1: wobbly once again. You start to shrink down, smaller and
- 12:12Speaker 1: smaller and smaller, until you are a fly. Your vision
- 12:18Speaker 1: suddenly looks super strange, as if you can see in
- 12:23Speaker 1: every direction at once. Fly eyes are really cool. You
- 12:29Speaker 1: buzz up into the air and dart straight down towards
- 12:33Speaker 1: one of the aliens. You loop around behind him and
- 12:38Speaker 1: carefully and sneakily you land on top of his head.
- 12:44Speaker 1: You focus on absorbing the alien DNA. A strange sensation
- 12:50Speaker 1: passes through your body as you acquire it, and you
- 12:56Speaker 1: fly away into an alleyway. You land on the ground
- 13:02Speaker 1: and once again allow yourself to transform, this time focused
- 13:08Speaker 1: on the alien's DNA. Your arms and legs grow back,
- 13:14Speaker 1: only they grow a lot longer than they were before.
- 13:19Speaker 1: You feel stronger than your human form, more capable perhaps,
- 13:26Speaker 1: And strangely, you feel a sensation you've never felt before,
- 13:33Speaker 1: as if you can sense something that's not inside your body,
- 13:37Speaker 1: but outside your body, the goo. You walk over to
- 13:44Speaker 1: a set of trash cans near by, place your hands
- 13:48Speaker 1: on them, and allow your alien instincts to take over.
- 13:52Speaker 1: A strange surge of power shoots through your hands into
- 13:56Speaker 1: the garbage cans, and they immediately melt into goo, along
- 14:02Speaker 1: with all of the garbage inside them. Only this goo,
- 14:07Speaker 1: you seem to be able to manipulate as you move
- 14:12Speaker 1: your hands. The goo obeys. You move your hands left,
- 14:17Speaker 1: and the goo rushes across the ground the left. You
- 14:22Speaker 1: stretch them up into the air, and the goo stretches up.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Your thoughts alone seem to be able to mold it
- 14:29Speaker 1: into any shape you can imagine. You practice this by
- 14:33Speaker 1: turning it into a large goo dog for a second.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Cool you imagine the dog running forward, and the dog
- 14:43Speaker 1: made of goo does exactly that. In order to take
- 14:48Speaker 1: on these aliens and give them a taste of their
- 14:51Speaker 1: own medicine, though you're gonna need more goo, you quickly
- 14:57Speaker 1: run down the alleyway, touching everything you can, garbage cans,
- 15:02Speaker 1: recycling bins old bikes that were left around a trashy
- 15:07Speaker 1: old car, and one by one you turn each of
- 15:11Speaker 1: them into goo. You wave your hands, commanding the goo
- 15:16Speaker 1: to move together into a larger blob of goo. Then
- 15:22Speaker 1: you make your way out into the streets where the
- 15:26Speaker 1: other aliens are commanding even bigger blobs of goo. Now
- 15:32Speaker 1: that you've had a taste for it, you can understand
- 15:34Speaker 1: why they want to turn everything into goo. It's pretty
- 15:38Speaker 1: fun to command this stuff. You see some nearby cars
- 15:43Speaker 1: and turn them into goo with a simple touch. The
- 15:47Speaker 1: lamp posts change to goo, the garbage cans in the
- 15:51Speaker 1: street change to goo. Every inanimate object you can find
- 15:56Speaker 1: is quickly transformed into goo, and to your delight, the
- 16:01Speaker 1: other aliens don't seem to notice that you're not one
- 16:05Speaker 1: of them, So before you decide to take them on,
- 16:11Speaker 1: you decide to collect more goo. The only thing slowing
- 16:16Speaker 1: you down is the need to walk everywhere. Then you
- 16:20Speaker 1: realize you don't have to walk, you have goo. You
- 16:26Speaker 1: command the goo to sweep out under your feet, lift
- 16:30Speaker 1: you up in the air, and move you down the
- 16:33Speaker 1: street as if you're riding a wave of goo. Each
- 16:38Speaker 1: car you pass by is transformed into goo, every street lamp,
- 16:43Speaker 1: every garbage can, every stand of any kind, until you
- 16:49Speaker 1: have a mound of goo that rivals the mound of
- 16:53Speaker 1: goo that the aliens have. Then you turn around because
- 16:59Speaker 1: now now it's finally time to give them a taste
- 17:03Speaker 1: of their own medicine. Hey, aliens, you yell as you
- 17:10Speaker 1: roll up on your wave of goo floating high in
- 17:14Speaker 1: the air, using the green substance as a sort of
- 17:19Speaker 1: extension of your body. Stop turning everything into goo. I
- 17:26Speaker 1: totally understand why it's fun. This is actually really really cool,
- 17:30Speaker 1: But this is my planet and you can't turn it
- 17:35Speaker 1: all into green gobly gook. In response, the aliens say nothing.
- 17:43Speaker 1: They simply send their blobs of goo straight towards you.
- 17:49Speaker 1: You sink down onto the ground, lift up your hands,
- 17:52Speaker 1: and order your goo to form a shield around your body.
- 17:58Speaker 1: The blobs of goo colle creating a really strange, sticky
- 18:03Speaker 1: sort of sound, and you begin to push against the
- 18:07Speaker 1: other aliens. Unfortunately they have too much goo there. Mounds
- 18:15Speaker 1: of goo start to wrap around yours and you feel
- 18:19Speaker 1: like you're losing the battle. You back up down the
- 18:23Speaker 1: street and turn more things into goo to add to
- 18:27Speaker 1: your arsenal. A bike a scooter, a bank machine. Hopefully,
- 18:33Speaker 1: hopefully that's not a crime. But no matter what you do,
- 18:38Speaker 1: you just don't have enough goo. The goo starts to
- 18:43Speaker 1: push towards you. Your goo is swallowed by the others,
- 18:48Speaker 1: and the aliens fly up in the air on little
- 18:52Speaker 1: streams of goo above you. A bird lands on your shoulder. Well,
- 19:00Speaker 1: may I ask why you're only commanding your own gou?
- 19:05Speaker 1: The voice says, Ah, what do you mean? I figured
- 19:10Speaker 1: that was the way it works. Oh, no, it doesn't
- 19:14Speaker 1: work like that at all. You have the ability to
- 19:17Speaker 1: command any goo. It's really more of a battle of
- 19:22Speaker 1: the mind than a battle of the goo you've created.
- 19:28Speaker 1: As long as you assarch your influence over the gou
- 19:32Speaker 1: stronger than the goo aliens, there'll be nothing they can do.
- 19:38Speaker 1: And as someone with shape shifting powers granted, do you well,
- 19:44Speaker 1: I feel you'll have a bit of an affinity for it. Really,
- 19:51Speaker 1: You turn back to the giant mounds of goo approaching you,
- 19:56Speaker 1: and you reach out towards them with your hands and
- 20:02Speaker 1: with your mind. Something clicks in your brain as it
- 20:08Speaker 1: links onto all of the goo around you. You feel
- 20:12Speaker 1: other forces from the other aliens pushing against you, but
- 20:17Speaker 1: you decide to simply not listen. This goo is yours
- 20:23Speaker 1: and they can't have it. In a burst of mental energy,
- 20:30Speaker 1: all of the goo surrounding you suddenly decides to obey
- 20:35Speaker 1: your command instead of theirs. You drop the streams of
- 20:41Speaker 1: goo that are holding up the aliens, and they fall
- 20:45Speaker 1: with a very satisfying PLoP into the goo below. You
- 20:51Speaker 1: wrap them each up tightly in your own goo and
- 20:55Speaker 1: command the goo to surround you once again. The goo
- 21:00Speaker 1: moves underneath you, lifts you up in the air, and
- 21:04Speaker 1: you begin to move down the streets, capturing the goo
- 21:09Speaker 1: of the other aliens with a simple command of your mind.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Street after street, you collect all of the goo from
- 21:19Speaker 1: other aliens, bring it into your giant goo ball, and
- 21:24Speaker 1: wrap the aliens up in a tendril of the stuff.
- 21:29Speaker 1: By the time you've captured each and every one of them,
- 21:33Speaker 1: you're floating high above the town center on a gigantic
- 21:38Speaker 1: blob of goo as tall as a skyscraper. You use
- 21:44Speaker 1: the tendrils of goo to shoot the aliens back into
- 21:47Speaker 1: their ship, and you yell you want more of this,
- 21:53Speaker 1: come and get it. In response, the aliens shut the
- 21:58Speaker 1: hatches on their ships and simply fly away. Now the
- 22:06Speaker 1: question of what exactly do you do with this giant
- 22:10Speaker 1: mound of goo? Eh, well, may I suggest returning it
- 22:17Speaker 1: to its proper place. It's made up of a lot
- 22:20Speaker 1: of things and little people that would probably prefer not
- 22:25Speaker 1: to be goo. I can do that, you reply, of
- 22:31Speaker 1: course you can. Just as you command the goo, now,
- 22:36Speaker 1: you may command it to return to its rightful place,
- 22:40Speaker 1: its rightful state. It's all in your mind. So you
- 22:48Speaker 1: close your eyes, you sit cross legged a top the goo,
- 22:55Speaker 1: and you imagine it all moving back to where it
- 22:58Speaker 1: came from. You imagine it forming back into cars and
- 23:03Speaker 1: trash cans and lamps and people and pats. And slowly
- 23:10Speaker 1: the goo begins to lower you down towards the ground
- 23:14Speaker 1: as it moves and stretches back out over the streets,
- 23:19Speaker 1: through the alleyways, and slowly it begins forming itself back
- 23:25Speaker 1: into the objects that were transformed in the first place,
- 23:29Speaker 1: the cars, the lamp posts, the garbage cans, the particularly
- 23:34Speaker 1: shocked male man who had no idea what had just
- 23:37Speaker 1: happened to him. The streets transform from empty, lifeless places
- 23:44Speaker 1: to a flurry of activity once again, and with a
- 23:49Speaker 1: final thought, the last piece of goo solidifies and you
- 23:55Speaker 1: look out over the street. The cars are back where
- 23:58Speaker 1: they're supposed to be, The garbage cans are too, the
- 24:02Speaker 1: lamps everything. The people, on the other hand, look rather disturbed.
- 24:09Speaker 1: You find them staring at their hands and legs and
- 24:13Speaker 1: then around at each other, silently asking if that actually
- 24:18Speaker 1: just happened, And then they catch a glimpse of you.
- 24:24Speaker 1: An alien uh oh, you realize. You allow yourself to
- 24:31Speaker 1: transform once again, shrinking down into the shape of a bird,
- 24:37Speaker 1: and you flap your wings and fly away as quickly
- 24:40Speaker 1: as you can, before anybody can ask any real questions.
- 24:46Speaker 1: You fly higher and higher and higher until you're high
- 24:50Speaker 1: enough to begin to glide. Then you simply spread your
- 24:55Speaker 1: wings and glide through the world on the wind as
- 25:01Speaker 1: you pass over all of the houses, the trees, the lakes,
- 25:07Speaker 1: the rivers, until you spot your own home, a familiar place.
- 25:15Speaker 1: You swoop down towards it, land in front of the door,
- 25:20Speaker 1: and transform back into your human form. As you do,
- 25:25Speaker 1: it feels good to be you again, having your own
- 25:29Speaker 1: arms and legs and fingers and toes. You make your
- 25:33Speaker 1: way inside and head directly for your bedroom. There's something
- 25:39Speaker 1: about transforming and commanding giant blobs of goo that's left
- 25:45Speaker 1: you very, very tired. You crawl into your bed, pull
- 25:53Speaker 1: the covers up to your chin, and you close your eyes.
- 25:59Speaker 1: With each breath, you let go of a little more
- 26:03Speaker 1: tension from your muscles. You allow your legs and arms
- 26:09Speaker 1: to sink down deeper into the mattress. With the next breath,
- 26:15Speaker 1: you release your shoulders, then your neck, and last your face,
- 26:25Speaker 1: allowing it to soften into a nice half smile. And
- 26:30Speaker 1: with each breath you sink down deeper and deeper into
- 26:35Speaker 1: the mattress, and your mind begins to wander off to
- 26:42Speaker 1: thoughts of new dreams, new adventures, and new shapes to
- 26:49Speaker 1: shift into. To come good night, everyone.
