- 0:01Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett.
- 0:05Speaker 2: All right, Well, as Gabby and I are having our
- 0:08Speaker 2: morning ice coffee, we're enjoying it with plastic straws. But
- 0:14Speaker 2: you know why that's important, right, because paper straws could
- 0:19Speaker 2: be a thing of the past. The disabled community will
- 0:23Speaker 2: actually benefit from Donald Trump's presidency in this way. Anyway.
- 0:27Speaker 2: I don't know about the rest of it. I think
- 0:30Speaker 2: we'll be fine through it. But he is actually helping
- 0:33Speaker 2: the disabled community by saying, hey, Biden, the paper straws
- 0:37Speaker 2: can go. You know, screw themselves. We're coming back to
- 0:41Speaker 2: plastic straws. And you know how vital it is for
- 0:45Speaker 2: people with disabilities to have plastic straws. It's so vital,
- 0:49Speaker 2: it's a must. Restaurants should be able to provide plastic
- 0:54Speaker 2: straws and not be regulated by some bureaucrats who say, well,
- 0:59Speaker 2: what the disabled community want to live, they're not going
- 1:02Speaker 2: to be They may be environmentalists, but they also have
- 1:05Speaker 2: to live and live comfortably. And these plastic straws give
- 1:09Speaker 2: a form of comfort when enjoying their food. So I
- 1:12Speaker 2: applaud President Trump on this initiative. He went on truth
- 1:16Speaker 2: Truth social and said, in essence, we're bringing back plastic straws.
- 1:21Speaker 2: And I immediately said, hey, disabled community, there's going to
- 1:24Speaker 2: benefit you and us because how many years did I
- 1:31Speaker 2: see people at Viscardi needing all these straws? And how
- 1:35Speaker 2: many places do we go to on a daily that
- 1:38Speaker 2: still don't always provide the plastic straws but need to.
- 1:42Speaker 2: But I want to challenge President Trump on this. Can
- 1:46Speaker 2: we go back to plastic bags? The plastic bag band
- 1:50Speaker 2: never made sense from the inception, but it's time to
- 1:55Speaker 2: go back to plastic bags. Says, if we can do
- 1:57Speaker 2: with straws, we can do with bags. I mean, how
- 1:59Speaker 2: many people people find that when they carry per you know,
- 2:04Speaker 2: bags from Walgreens or wherever, and the brakes on them
- 2:08Speaker 2: in the middle of the street. How many people wish
- 2:10Speaker 2: we had plastic bags back. I'll pay the fricking five
- 2:14Speaker 2: cent tax I don't care, but I think they come
- 2:19Speaker 2: in pairs. The straws and the bags should both be plastic.
- 2:22Speaker 2: And so we're gonna make the plastic straws a thing
- 2:26Speaker 2: again nationwide. Let's make plastic bags a thing as well.
- 2:34Speaker 2: And you know, President Trump, my dad loved yet he'd
- 2:37Speaker 2: be very proud of you for that. Because he loved
- 2:39Speaker 2: his plastic bags, and it certainly would make it easier
- 2:42Speaker 2: on me with my crutches to carry plastic instead of paper.
- 2:47Speaker 2: But the big story of this week has been what's
- 2:49Speaker 2: going on with the US AID. And I've talked about
- 2:52Speaker 2: this a couple of weeks ago when I saw that
- 2:54Speaker 2: they were going to freeze funding for USAID because we
- 2:59Speaker 2: have been giving billions and billions to other countries and
- 3:04Speaker 2: I don't even know what they're used for. No one
- 3:06Speaker 2: really knows. That's why the examination had to happen. And
- 3:13Speaker 2: I don't know if you've heard this, but JFK started
- 3:17Speaker 2: this back in nineteen sixty one. And as there's a
- 3:23Speaker 2: pause on the firing of twenty two hundred USAID workers,
- 3:27Speaker 2: that's right, twenty two hundred. I do want to play
- 3:32Speaker 2: this because I think he makes a lot of sense
- 3:34Speaker 2: here when he talked about why he created USAID. This
- 3:38Speaker 2: from the JFK Library Foundation.
- 3:42Speaker 1: The presence of the United States has a leading power
- 3:47Speaker 1: in the free world. Is involved in your work directly.
- 3:52Speaker 1: The people who are opposed to AID should realize that
- 3:56Speaker 1: this is a very powerful source of strength for us.
- 4:01Speaker 1: It permits us to exert influence or the maintenance of freedom.
- 4:06Speaker 1: If we did not, we're not so heavily involved, our
- 4:11Speaker 1: voice would not speak with such bigger and as we
- 4:16Speaker 1: do not want to send American troops to a great
- 4:19Speaker 1: many areas where freedom may be under attacked, we send
- 4:22Speaker 1: you and you working with the people in those countries
- 4:27Speaker 1: to try to work with them and developing the economic
- 4:32Speaker 1: thrust of their country so that they can make a
- 4:34Speaker 1: determination that they can solve their problems without resorting to
- 4:38Speaker 1: totalitarian control and becoming part of the block.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Now I agree with the idea of this. We shouldn't
- 4:46Speaker 2: send our troops into war torn areas are already eating
- 4:49Speaker 2: their own, if you will, But excuse me, I believe
- 4:59Speaker 2: that the aid that we've given out is being given
- 5:06Speaker 2: to corrupted governments that may not have been there back
- 5:09Speaker 2: in the sixties, or if they were, they certainly worked
- 5:13Speaker 2: easier with us, or however you want to say it.
- 5:17Speaker 2: So again, I am for pausing the aid, figuring out
- 5:21Speaker 2: exactly how our dollars are spent, and then going from there.
- 5:27Speaker 2: It might seem radical to you, but as I keep saying,
- 5:33Speaker 2: whether we're an athlete, were disabled, we're a pop star,
- 5:37Speaker 2: we're in Hollywood, we all pay taxes. Most of us,
- 5:42Speaker 2: most every man and woman in this country pay taxes,
- 5:47Speaker 2: and we should know where this money's going. I mean,
- 5:51Speaker 2: I'm just looking here pure research saying that this is
- 5:55Speaker 2: back in twenty two days ago. In twenty twenty three,
- 5:58Speaker 2: USAID distributed three point eight billion dollars in aid, three
- 6:06Speaker 2: of five foreign assistance dollars. But what if this aid
- 6:12Speaker 2: again is in the wrong hands. And when you see
- 6:16Speaker 2: that astronomical number, and then you look at the homeless
- 6:22Speaker 2: here in New York and other places, and you wait
- 6:25Speaker 2: in Washington, yes, right in Port Washington, then you have
- 6:31Speaker 2: to ask yourself, aren't we doing it wrong? If we're
- 6:34Speaker 2: always exporting our dollars and not bringing it back into
- 6:39Speaker 2: our country, we need this pause. And then you go
- 6:47Speaker 2: into the fact that I'm sure, I hate to say it,
- 6:52Speaker 2: but what if some of these workers are partnering with
- 6:54Speaker 2: the government to do the corruption. I think of what
- 6:59Speaker 2: happened to the un UN staffers were formulating awful plans
- 7:04Speaker 2: with hamas and UNSCO had to fire them. Well, who
- 7:11Speaker 2: does the USAID workers are not teaming up with the
- 7:14Speaker 2: government to suppress the people in addition to giving them
- 7:18Speaker 2: all this aid? And I see all the alarm bells
- 7:24Speaker 2: are going off around the channels. Oh my god, look
- 7:26Speaker 2: how much. And I agree, it's awful that a lot
- 7:31Speaker 2: of these countries cannot support themselves. It's horrible that they
- 7:36Speaker 2: can't even support their own citizens. But there's got to
- 7:41Speaker 2: be a fine line between instilling self reliance and self
- 7:45Speaker 2: independence in these foreign countries and US supplying the money
- 7:54Speaker 2: till that happens. Everybody in two thousand and eight was
- 8:01Speaker 2: all about and I might have had a voice in
- 8:03Speaker 2: this too. Thought about this to the bailing out of
- 8:07Speaker 2: the auto industry when all of that crap was going on,
- 8:10Speaker 2: when the recession was going on, and the fact that
- 8:18Speaker 2: there had to be a debate about bailing out anything
- 8:23Speaker 2: about in the perspective of our own people and our
- 8:27Speaker 2: own companies. There were fights against that, and to finish
- 8:35Speaker 2: that thought. Trump is actually, whether you like his tough
- 8:39Speaker 2: talk or not, he is very big on self reliance.
- 8:42Speaker 2: He is very big on saying, hey, NATO, hey, countries
- 8:47Speaker 2: will get this usaid. We will make sure you are
- 8:51Speaker 2: on your own two feet, but we will not give
- 8:56Speaker 2: you all this money the United States gives out sixty
- 9:01Speaker 2: one percent of this comes from USAD. We give out
- 9:06Speaker 2: seventy two billion dollars a year. Okay a year, and
- 9:13Speaker 2: I know Pew had another number as well back in
- 9:16Speaker 2: twenty twenty three. Long, but this is nuts. And as
- 9:24Speaker 2: someone who sees even it's tough for my fiance Gabby
- 9:28Speaker 2: to get to the LR because the roads are so
- 9:31Speaker 2: crappy here and we have to literally roll the streets
- 9:36Speaker 2: of Port Washington because the sidewalks are not even fixed. Yeah,
- 9:40Speaker 2: we're giving seventy two billion dollars everybody else in the world.
- 9:46Speaker 2: It has to end now, And I'm sorry if it
- 9:49Speaker 2: sounds heartless, but it has to end now before we can,
- 9:53Speaker 2: you know, for evaluation at least, we literally keep printing
- 9:58Speaker 2: money and then we say how much how can we
- 10:01Speaker 2: be in debt? Well, this is a big part of
- 10:03Speaker 2: it that we you know, we kicked down, kicked the
- 10:06Speaker 2: kid down the road, and we put these government what
- 10:09Speaker 2: do they call them, these government spending bills in place
- 10:12Speaker 2: just so we don't shut down the government. Now, half
- 10:15Speaker 2: those federal workers probably gonna be fired or buy out.
- 10:18Speaker 2: You know, there's a lot of stuff going on with
- 10:19Speaker 2: that too, so the government shut down may not be
- 10:24Speaker 2: as relevant as there are no federal workers to you know,
- 10:28Speaker 2: have a working pause. It's a bit of a dark
- 10:30Speaker 2: joke there. Anyway, it's time and I admire I admire
- 10:37Speaker 2: JFK what he did to establish USAID, I admire it.
- 10:43Speaker 2: But this is this was established in sixty one, so
- 10:49Speaker 2: this is a good sixty year plus years later and
- 10:55Speaker 2: it's gone out of control. I don't think he would
- 10:58Speaker 2: want to see US spending set many two billion dollars
- 11:03Speaker 2: in this aid. And again it's one of those things,
- 11:05Speaker 2: what are we paying into? What are we paying out for?
- 11:13Speaker 2: And we know there are government turmoils all over the
- 11:16Speaker 2: damn place, and I'm sure our funding is actually helping
- 11:20Speaker 2: the government suppress its people instead of making them self
- 11:24Speaker 2: reliant and independent. It ends now with President Trump, and
- 11:31Speaker 2: I am for that as much as I am for
- 11:34Speaker 2: the bringing back of plastic straws, and I hope it
- 11:39Speaker 2: extends into plastic bags as well. On the One Leg
- 11:42Speaker 2: Up Network, pausing, evaluating and maybe even cutting off certain
