- 0:20Speaker 1: Hey, everyone, Welcome to Bless It's Messa in the True
- 0:22Speaker 1: Grund podcast. I'm Caraho do say Heyestu. All right, we're
- 0:25Speaker 1: back this week and we are going to Virginia four
- 0:28Speaker 1: weeks in a row, going strong, Stu.
- 0:31Speaker 2: I know I've pushed her to work harder, please.
- 0:34Speaker 1: We finally got on a schedule that I think where
- 0:36Speaker 1: we just I think sadly, I mean, believe it or not,
- 0:39Speaker 1: we've been doing this for like six seven years, seven
- 0:44Speaker 1: years do seven years? We have been doing this and
- 0:47Speaker 1: we just now got on a schedule because we weren't
- 0:50Speaker 1: treating it like a job. A job, and you do
- 0:55Speaker 1: have to treat it like a job. We're just not
- 0:57Speaker 1: going to get done because obviously we have like other jobs,
- 1:00Speaker 1: like a regular job that pays the bills, you know.
- 1:04Speaker 1: And so we we finally gone on a schedule and
- 1:07Speaker 1: it seems to be working for us for for four weeks.
- 1:10Speaker 1: We're trying now just f YI coming up, so we'll
- 1:13Speaker 1: have regular episodes for the next couple of weeks, and
- 1:16Speaker 1: then we're going to have a Patreon only episode because
- 1:21Speaker 1: we are going out of town away. So we are
- 1:25Speaker 1: going away, as many of you we've talked about we're
- 1:27Speaker 1: going on a cruise again. So anyway, so that week,
- 1:31Speaker 1: instead of having a regular episode, we put out we're
- 1:32Speaker 1: actually gonna do something for the Patreon. It's not gonna
- 1:34Speaker 1: be like our normal episodes. I think what we're gonna
- 1:37Speaker 1: do is we've been watching like the Scott Peterson stuff,
- 1:40Speaker 1: so we might watch that and recap it for you
- 1:42Speaker 1: guys on it for to think all of our Patreon.
- 1:45Speaker 2: So tell them tell him why Scott Peterson's innocent?
- 1:48Speaker 1: Yeah, Stu, you can. You can cover the Peacock portion
- 1:51Speaker 1: of it where they do the interview with him, and
- 1:54Speaker 1: I'll cover the Netflix one where they're like this guy sucks,
- 1:57Speaker 1: but yeah, we had Yeah, he's he's ridiculous. Anyways, Stu
- 2:02Speaker 1: doesn't actually think he's innocent. But what else is going on?
- 2:07Speaker 1: I'm still going strong with the sour dough. So here's
- 2:09Speaker 1: the deal. So I've been I have not been recording
- 2:12Speaker 1: it and posting it. I'm just not good at I
- 2:14Speaker 1: don't that yeah that I already have this and like
- 2:18Speaker 1: a job and three children. So but I've been pushing
- 2:22Speaker 1: for with the same sour dough. So here's the thing.
- 2:25Speaker 1: It is bubbly, but it smells like actone at the
- 2:28Speaker 1: end of the day. So I've heard that that's because
- 2:30Speaker 1: it's too hungry. So I've been trying to feed it more,
- 2:34Speaker 1: but we still don't have the rise we need out
- 2:36Speaker 1: of it. We're bubbling, but we're not rising everybody, So
- 2:40Speaker 1: we're still working on the rise to be able to
- 2:42Speaker 1: make bread. So that's where we're at with the sour dough.
- 2:44Speaker 1: If anybody was wondering, I know you've been on the
- 2:48Speaker 1: edge of your seats waiting to hear about how my
- 2:49Speaker 1: sour dough starter is going. And then if you have
- 2:52Speaker 1: any tips about sour dough starters because you've successfully done it,
- 2:56Speaker 1: then you know, get on our Instagram or Facebook. So
- 3:00Speaker 1: far as just okay, whatever's do. Okay, we did that.
- 3:06Speaker 1: We're eating sour dough in the meantime. But anyways, so yeah,
- 3:12Speaker 1: get on our Instagram or Facebook and you can send
- 3:14Speaker 1: me your tips and tricks. And then what else have
- 3:18Speaker 1: we been doing. Oh, I've been trying to jog, as
- 3:21Speaker 1: I've told said told you guys last week. I think
- 3:25Speaker 1: so Stu and the children go with me, and then
- 3:27Speaker 1: I like jog ahead, pushing the drawer. So we stopped
- 3:29Speaker 1: at our neighborhood playground, which we don't do that often
- 3:32Speaker 1: because our neighborhood it yes, it interrupts the walk. So
- 3:38Speaker 1: this time I did all my jog and then we
- 3:39Speaker 1: went back to the playground so they could play. We'll
- 3:42Speaker 1: get up there and there's these two little shithead little kids,
- 3:45Speaker 1: maybe five and six. Would you say, Stu, No, how
- 3:49Speaker 1: old do you think they were? They were five?
- 3:52Speaker 2: No?
- 3:53Speaker 1: I thought they were six or seven.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Yeah, at least seven, maybe eight?
- 3:58Speaker 1: Oh yeah, think so? Oh they weren't eight, No, like
- 4:02Speaker 1: probably six or seven. Just the mouthiest, rudest little shit
- 4:06Speaker 1: So we get up there on playground. My daughter had
- 4:08Speaker 1: her rock and she's three. She has her rock in
- 4:12Speaker 1: her hand or whatever that she found on the ground.
- 4:14Speaker 1: We get up there on the top of that kid runs
- 4:15Speaker 1: up there and just rips it out of her hands.
- 4:17Speaker 1: And let me tell you, people, it took all my
- 4:18Speaker 1: kids strain not to smack that little shitthead across the head,
- 4:24Speaker 1: but I restrained myself. I yanked it back from him,
- 4:28Speaker 1: and I said, that's not your rock, that's her rock anyway.
- 4:33Speaker 1: So I got into it with the children and I'm
- 4:37Speaker 1: staring them down and giving my my strongest bitch face.
- 4:40Speaker 1: And then the one kid's like, you're not in charge
- 4:43Speaker 1: of me. I was like, oh, I'm not in charge
- 4:45Speaker 1: of you, I said, but your mom's in charge of you.
- 4:48Speaker 1: I said, I'm gonna go get your mom. He's like,
- 4:49Speaker 1: oh no, don't do that. I'm like, yeah, I'm gonna
- 4:51Speaker 1: go get your mom. So I'm like staring them down.
- 4:53Speaker 1: So our two kids are just staring here like, cause
- 4:55Speaker 1: they're two and three, they don't even know what's happening.
- 4:58Speaker 1: So they walked down off the playground and we're standing
- 5:02Speaker 1: down there and they start taunting me, and I'm like,
- 5:04Speaker 1: oh fuck no, I said, okay, that's it. I said,
- 5:07Speaker 1: I'm going to get So I rushed over there and
- 5:09Speaker 1: I tell I find the one kid's mom. I tell her.
- 5:12Speaker 1: She's like real sorry about it. But the main instigator,
- 5:15Speaker 1: the little blondeheaded kid, he I went and told his mom,
- 5:18Speaker 1: and his mom was like okay, okay, like she didn't
- 5:21Speaker 1: care at all. So now I see why he's the
- 5:23Speaker 1: way he is to do. No discipline at all, nothing
- 5:27Speaker 1: happening in the household, no nothing anyway. So I'm that person.
- 5:30Speaker 1: I'm gonna go tell their parents.
- 5:33Speaker 2: I need to talk to your manager.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that is like the I'm a mom version
- 5:39Speaker 1: of a Karen. I'm a Kara if you will yes, no,
- 5:44Speaker 1: I'm just like whatever I was growing up, you said
- 5:46Speaker 1: yes ma'am and no, ma'am to like adults and whether
- 5:50Speaker 1: you knew them or not, like you didn't have to,
- 5:52Speaker 1: like you know, you obviously don't go with them or
- 5:54Speaker 1: anything like that, but you don't disrespect adults and everything.
- 5:58Speaker 1: But I've heard I've seen im these moms group on
- 6:01Speaker 1: Facebook and I see it all the time, how they say, oh,
- 6:03Speaker 1: these kids are just horror stories in these schools playgrounds
- 6:07Speaker 1: like that, kids being rude, mean to other kids and
- 6:09Speaker 1: stuff like that. I'm like, what is what is happening
- 6:12Speaker 1: in this world?
- 6:13Speaker 2: It's just happening on our playground.
- 6:15Speaker 1: It's happened on our playground. So now, anyways, I don't
- 6:18Speaker 1: know what I'm doing next time if it happens again.
- 6:19Speaker 2: But you're just gonna push them off.
- 6:21Speaker 1: I'm just gonna. Oh I had to. I was gonna.
- 6:23Speaker 1: He had all those rocks up there on the top
- 6:25Speaker 1: level of the places playground, and it took everything in
- 6:28Speaker 1: me not to just I can tell hums to do.
- 6:30Speaker 1: I'm gonna go up there and knock his rocks offn't
- 6:33Speaker 1: push all his rocks. But I didn't. I didn't people.
- 6:36Speaker 1: I was somewhat mature about it. So all right, I
- 6:41Speaker 1: think that's it. Oh, we did try to cut our
- 6:44Speaker 1: child's hair today or yesterday, the two year old. Now
- 6:47Speaker 1: we need to fix it today because he's got like
- 6:49Speaker 1: a still called it a page boy cut in the back.
- 6:53Speaker 1: It's a little uneven anyways. Yeah, so that's what we've
- 6:57Speaker 1: been up.
- 6:57Speaker 2: To, riding a little high back up on the back
- 6:59Speaker 2: of the scale.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Yah, it's riding a little high. It's got not got
- 7:02Speaker 1: a lot of depth to it. I would say, it's
- 7:05Speaker 1: just like a lot cut. Like I put a bowl
- 7:08Speaker 1: on the back of its head. I think I did. Okay,
- 7:11Speaker 1: in the front, it's the back. But he used to
- 7:14Speaker 1: have like a little mullet, and that we trimmed off.
- 7:18Speaker 1: And then this was then I started looking at we
- 7:20Speaker 1: went to little Jim. His hair was just so like
- 7:24Speaker 1: frazzled and looked rough, and I was like, oh my god.
- 7:27Speaker 1: All the other little boys have their like lives together,
- 7:29Speaker 1: and mine's just run around. He's and he's the craziest
- 7:34Speaker 1: one in the class too. So that doesn't help. But anyways,
- 7:39Speaker 1: I think that's it for now. So like us on
- 7:42Speaker 1: our thank you for everybody supports on Patreon if you'd
- 7:45Speaker 1: like to check out the patreons in the show notes, Facebook, Instagram.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Will have a new book club pick coming up next week.
- 7:52Speaker 1: And I think that's it. Oh, rate review, subscribe anything else? Do?
- 7:58Speaker 2: I don't think so.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Thanks for participating in our life discussions. Do when you
- 8:03Speaker 1: just sit over there and be quiet.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Well, you're the one just rambling on.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Well maybe I wouldn't ramble if I'm looking at you, like, hey,
- 8:09Speaker 1: can you join in?
- 8:10Speaker 2: We'll talk about something interesting other than nuts.
- 8:13Speaker 1: I had to stop you. You wanted to like be
- 8:16Speaker 1: you wanted to like you were like, I would have
- 8:17Speaker 1: just like backhanded that kid, like that's why you're not
- 8:20Speaker 1: allowed to interact.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I said, That's why I'm glad it was you,
- 8:22Speaker 2: because if I would have been out there and he
- 8:24Speaker 2: pushed her or snatched something out of her hand, I
- 8:25Speaker 2: would have probably just pushed him off the plate, popped
- 8:28Speaker 2: him in the air or something. Yeah, so grabbed him
- 8:32Speaker 2: by his ear, pulled on the old ear. Low. Come here,
- 8:35Speaker 2: we're going to talk to your parents right now, buddy.
- 8:38Speaker 1: I did have some satisfaction.
- 8:40Speaker 2: I don't know who's leaving their kids over there though,
- 8:42Speaker 2: when they were all the way on the other side.
- 8:44Speaker 1: No, And that's the thing, is like, if your kids
- 8:45Speaker 1: aren't going to behave, then they don't need to be
- 8:48Speaker 1: You need to monitor your children like somewhat. You can't
- 8:50Speaker 1: if if they're because apparently the blondeheaded kid. The lady
- 8:54Speaker 1: with that was actually had her kid come and apologize
- 8:56Speaker 1: to me, and he was he was kind of like
- 8:58Speaker 1: the follower. You could tell he She was like, yeah,
- 9:01Speaker 1: he's he's a he's always getting in trouble. She said
- 9:04Speaker 1: he punched her three year old, and I'm like what,
- 9:05Speaker 1: I'm thinking, why are you letting your kid hang around
- 9:07Speaker 1: with this kid? Then she said he punched her three
- 9:10Speaker 1: year old and she usually stays over there with her
- 9:12Speaker 1: son whenever the three year old's with them because of
- 9:15Speaker 1: that kid. But since the three er wasn't there, she
- 9:17Speaker 1: was just gonna let him play with them by himself.
- 9:18Speaker 1: I'm like, okay, well, I don't know about that sound parenting.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Yes, No, I wonder why your kid is going down
- 9:23Speaker 2: a bad path.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Yeah, this is the start. This is how you end
- 9:28Speaker 1: up in one of our episodes as the as the
- 9:32Speaker 1: as the Suspect.
- 9:33Speaker 2: A little blond kid with the flock of seagulls comb over. Yes,
- 9:38Speaker 2: it all started one day on the playground.
- 9:41Speaker 1: I know we'll be telling the story on his Datelin episode.
- 9:44Speaker 1: All right, so let's get into this case out of Virginia.
- 9:48Speaker 1: If you've been fast forwarding, now's the time to stop.
- 9:51Speaker 1: I'll give you a second. Okay, we're going. Tara Rose
- 9:55Speaker 1: Munsey was born February second, nineteen eighty three in Radford, Virginia,
- 9:59Speaker 1: to Catherine Irwin and Bill Munsey. And she had one brother,
- 10:04Speaker 1: and I believe her her mom and her dad did
- 10:06Speaker 1: go on to divorce whenever they were children. Tara attended
- 10:11Speaker 1: Radford High School in Radford, Virginia. She was said to
- 10:14Speaker 1: be musically gifted and she enjoyed attending church with her
- 10:17Speaker 1: grandmother and dad. Now. She also was described as having
- 10:21Speaker 1: a humorous personality and was just overall uplifting person Tara
- 10:25Speaker 1: had a boyfriend whom she was deeply, deeply in love with,
- 10:29Speaker 1: you know that high school love where you think it's
- 10:31Speaker 1: the be all indol. And his name was Nick Zaropa. Now.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Nick was a few years older than Tara, so when
- 10:38Speaker 1: Nick graduated, he joined the Navy and ended up moving
- 10:41Speaker 1: to Illinois. Well, she vowed that as soon as she
- 10:44Speaker 1: was done graduating, she was moving near him and she
- 10:47Speaker 1: was going to marry Nick. So she was definitely committed
- 10:50Speaker 1: to him and very much in love. Meanwhile, Tara worked
- 10:53Speaker 1: at a local fast food restaurant, and this was the
- 10:55Speaker 1: Taco Bell on Fair Lawn there in Radford, And this
- 11:00Speaker 1: was while she was finishing out her last few years
- 11:02Speaker 1: of high school, waiting to go be with her boyfriend.
- 11:06Speaker 2: On January twenty fifth, two thousand, Terror was supposed to
- 11:08Speaker 2: meet her father at a basketball game at eight pm.
- 11:11Speaker 2: When he was on his way to the game, he
- 11:13Speaker 2: passed by the Taco Bell and saw that her car
- 11:15Speaker 2: was still on the parking lot. Wondering why she was
- 11:18Speaker 2: not yet on the way to meet him, he stopped
- 11:20Speaker 2: by the Taco bell.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Her coworkers had immediately got diarrhea.
- 11:24Speaker 2: And immediately in the vicinity her co workers.
- 11:29Speaker 1: It might have been but Taco Bell might have been
- 11:31Speaker 1: better back in two thousand.
- 11:32Speaker 2: I can't remember.
- 11:33Speaker 1: It wasn't okay, it wasn't.
- 11:35Speaker 2: It hasn't been any better since it started. I think
- 11:37Speaker 2: they used grad e meat well, you know, at least
- 11:40Speaker 2: food is grade D. I believe at least.
- 11:42Speaker 1: They've been consistently terrible, so you can really count on
- 11:45Speaker 1: that when you're drunk or hungover to the Actually, it's
- 11:49Speaker 1: just when you're drunk and you're like, hey, Uber driver,
- 11:51Speaker 1: you know what, it sounds like a great ideal Taco Bell.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Remember one time we went through Taco Bell at like
- 11:55Speaker 1: two am, had the Uber driver take us and we
- 11:59Speaker 1: ordered it was whenever they had all the different flavors
- 12:01Speaker 1: at tacos, and we ordered, like I think we ordered
- 12:04Speaker 1: like fifty dollars for a Taco Bell and then I
- 12:07Speaker 1: got home, I was too drunk to eat any of
- 12:08Speaker 1: it and just fell asleep.
- 12:10Speaker 2: That sounds like something would happen yet. Yeah, Plus we
- 12:13Speaker 2: had an extra Uber tab because we sat in line.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Yeah, we sat in line at the Taco Bell with
- 12:17Speaker 1: all the other drunk people. We're responsible that we always
- 12:20Speaker 1: take an Uber So don't drink and dry people. It's
- 12:23Speaker 1: not worth it.
- 12:23Speaker 2: No, it's not Wondering why she was not yet on
- 12:26Speaker 2: the way to meet him, he stopped buying. Coworkers said
- 12:29Speaker 2: she had clocked out about thirty minutes prior to him
- 12:32Speaker 2: getting there. In the front seat is a bag of
- 12:35Speaker 2: takeout food, a drink, and the hat that she wears
- 12:40Speaker 2: to work. So she put all this stuff in her
- 12:42Speaker 2: car and then she disappeared. Yeah, they called police, but
- 12:47Speaker 2: it isn't taken too seriously, since it's not uncommon for
- 12:50Speaker 2: teenagers to disappear for a few hours and not tell
- 12:53Speaker 2: their parents where they're going.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Yeah, she's sixteen. It's literally been maybe an hour or
- 12:58Speaker 1: so that they can't hour two that they can't locate her.
- 13:03Speaker 2: So TERA's dad, he's insistent that his daughter would not
- 13:06Speaker 2: just leave without checking in. And it was also very
- 13:09Speaker 2: odd that her car and the food that she bought.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Like still sitting in the front seat. Yeah, it's just
- 13:15Speaker 1: a I mean, Taco Bell doesn't reheat well either, a
- 13:19Speaker 1: coming come on, No, it's not like Chinese food reheats well.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Mexican like regular Mexican Mexican food and like a actual
- 13:26Speaker 1: Mexican y reheats well. But burger and fries does not.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Taco Bell like that. If you get the corn, the
- 13:34Speaker 1: corn not corn, what is it hard tacos try to
- 13:39Speaker 1: reheat those the next day, It just like disintegrates because
- 13:42Speaker 1: it's all the grease and everything.
- 13:44Speaker 2: So no, then you just get sick if you try
- 13:47Speaker 2: reheated taco bell, you just need to throw in the car.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Yeah, So she would have taken that food with her, had.
- 13:51Speaker 2: She Yeah, you gotta take it with you eat it.
- 13:54Speaker 2: So yeah, her dad is like, hey, what the hell?
- 13:56Speaker 2: Her food's here, but her purse is gone, her keys
- 13:59Speaker 2: are gone, There's nothing in the car except for this food.
- 14:02Speaker 2: So police question whether she would have dropped her items
- 14:05Speaker 2: in the car and then left with someone or left
- 14:07Speaker 2: on foot. Maybe it was someone she did not want
- 14:10Speaker 2: her parents to know she was with. Now, this theory
- 14:13Speaker 2: just did not seem to make sense to the father.
- 14:16Speaker 2: It was very cold at that time of year, so
- 14:18Speaker 2: leaving on foot was not an option. She could have
- 14:21Speaker 2: left in a car with somebody, But why would she
- 14:23Speaker 2: not take the hot food she bought from the restaurant?
- 14:26Speaker 1: Yeah? And then also why would she do that knowing
- 14:29Speaker 1: she was meeting her dad in like thirty minutes. She
- 14:33Speaker 1: wasn't that type of team. They said that she would
- 14:35Speaker 1: just make plans and then flake on Yeah, flake on them.
- 14:40Speaker 1: That wasn't That's why they were so concerned, Like, no,
- 14:42Speaker 1: she checks in, she talks to people. When she said
- 14:44Speaker 1: she's going to be somewhere.
- 14:45Speaker 2: She's going to meet me at the game and as yeah,
- 14:49Speaker 2: So her parents are waiting on a call from Tara,
- 14:53Speaker 2: but this call never came.
- 14:56Speaker 1: The next morning, January twenty sixth, there was still no
- 14:59Speaker 1: sign of Tara. They contacted her boyfriend Nick up in
- 15:02Speaker 1: Illinois to see if he had heard from her, but
- 15:05Speaker 1: he had not, because that was the other thing is
- 15:06Speaker 1: They're like, did she run off? She's madly in love
- 15:08Speaker 1: with his boyfriend, she misses him. If she was going anywhere,
- 15:12Speaker 1: that's where she would be going. So then whenever he
- 15:15Speaker 1: hadn't seen or heard from her, you know, they're really
- 15:18Speaker 1: getting concerned because that's the only thing they can think,
- 15:20Speaker 1: even though it would have been out of the norm
- 15:21Speaker 1: for her, that is literally the only option they can
- 15:23Speaker 1: think of where she would go. So Terrence, Terrence, Terrence. No.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Tara's parents knew something was wrong and pushed for officers
- 15:33Speaker 1: to really take this disappearance seriously. Finally, after being gone
- 15:37Speaker 1: for twenty four hours with no sign of her and
- 15:40Speaker 1: no idea where she went, they start speaking to They're
- 15:43Speaker 1: starting to investigate. They start speaking to her coworkers at
- 15:46Speaker 1: the Taco Bell and they tell police that she did
- 15:48Speaker 1: have a verbal altercation with two male customers that had
- 15:51Speaker 1: come through the drive through a few days before. Now,
- 15:54Speaker 1: this was a major concern for police because Tara was
- 15:57Speaker 1: a petit sixteen year old girl. If they were angry,
- 15:59Speaker 1: they could have easily, you know, overpowered her and harmed her.
- 16:05Speaker 1: But although I don't think, I'm pretty sure every day
- 16:07Speaker 1: there's probably angry help people through the drive through.
- 16:11Speaker 2: Yeah, somebody's getting into a verbal altercation in the type
- 16:14Speaker 2: of the bell probably wants every hour.
- 16:16Speaker 1: I like, this is like a calmon occurrence. So police
- 16:20Speaker 1: request video footage, but unfortunately the restaurant cheaped out. They
- 16:23Speaker 1: had no camera and then.
- 16:25Speaker 2: Her is two thousand. They were quite expectively.
- 16:27Speaker 1: Now everything has a camera. Her coworkers did not notice
- 16:31Speaker 1: anything suspicious that evening, and no one watched her walk
- 16:34Speaker 1: to a car, which is a terrible policy to have
- 16:39Speaker 1: whenever we every I think almost every place I've worked.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Now you know, when you do not work, you do
- 16:44Speaker 1: not walk to your car alone. Like when I was
- 16:46Speaker 1: a waitress, you don't walk to your car alone. Everybody
- 16:49Speaker 1: somebody walks out with you. If you're a female, like
- 16:52Speaker 1: the males are like whatever fuck it that's gonna happen.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Like the females, they would never let you either walked out.
- 16:58Speaker 1: You always walked out in a pair to your car
- 17:01Speaker 1: and then got in your cars, or or if it.
- 17:03Speaker 2: Was someone would watch out and then went back back.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Then.
- 17:06Speaker 2: Yeah, two weeks passed by with no sign of Tara,
- 17:09Speaker 2: and the community is starting to get concerned about her disappearance.
- 17:13Speaker 2: They're worried about the safety of their own children because
- 17:16Speaker 2: I guess they're figuring that this hit in a runaway situation,
- 17:19Speaker 2: that something actually happened to this girl.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Yeah, she's been abducted, and now they could happen. If
- 17:24Speaker 1: it's happened to her, it can happen to one of
- 17:26Speaker 1: their children.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Yeah, So the community doesn't see terror as a runaway
- 17:30Speaker 2: or just a flaky teenager.
- 17:32Speaker 1: They know they're worried about where she said, what's happened
- 17:34Speaker 1: to her. Yeah, they had huge search parties looking for her.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Yeah, volunteer search the area and the community got her
- 17:43Speaker 2: picture out to the public, but they could not find her.
- 17:46Speaker 2: On February tenth, two thousand, the hiker came upon a
- 17:49Speaker 2: body in the snow. The body was near a railroad
- 17:52Speaker 2: track in an isolated area at the bottom of a
- 17:55Speaker 2: seventy foot ravine at the New River near Parrot.
- 17:59Speaker 1: If you're famili with the area.
- 18:01Speaker 2: If you're familiar with the area, I am not.
- 18:04Speaker 1: I throw those things in there. What if someone is
- 18:05Speaker 1: familiar and they're like, oh my god, I know that
- 18:07Speaker 1: police somebody?
- 18:10Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, someone wrote us and said that the uh,
- 18:13Speaker 2: the guy from the Louisiana one.
- 18:16Speaker 1: The Louisiana case, the guy the killer that killed Sierra. Yes,
- 18:20Speaker 1: she lived with him or.
- 18:22Speaker 2: He stayed stayed at their house, surf the couch or
- 18:25Speaker 2: something like that. Yeah, so someone may know this area. Now,
- 18:31Speaker 2: it was difficult to get to the body. The man
- 18:34Speaker 2: just happened to be hiking in the area.
- 18:36Speaker 1: It's all these hikers going out and go in weird
- 18:39Speaker 1: places that find all these dead bodies.
- 18:41Speaker 2: You know, you know, well, you think it's the hikers
- 18:45Speaker 2: doing it.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Maybe maybe we're all just be in gas lit by
- 18:52Speaker 1: these hikers, do you think. Yes.
- 18:54Speaker 2: Police come to the scene expecting the worst, and this
- 18:57Speaker 2: was confirmed when they pulled the id from the pocket
- 19:00Speaker 2: the victim. It was in fact, sixteen year old Tara Muncie.
- 19:04Speaker 2: She was naked from the waist up and had injuries
- 19:07Speaker 2: consistent with being rolled down the ravine to where she
- 19:10Speaker 2: was found. Because of the snow, the body was well preserved,
- 19:14Speaker 2: and autopsy would later reveal that she was shot four times,
- 19:18Speaker 2: once in the chest and three times in the head.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Yes, it was described as execution style.
- 19:24Speaker 2: She also had bruising on the left side of her jaw,
- 19:27Speaker 2: left arm, right leg, and upper left thigh. She had
- 19:31Speaker 2: fought her attacker, and blood and other deposits were found
- 19:35Speaker 2: underneath her fingernails. She had not been raped, but they
- 19:39Speaker 2: did find seminal fluid on her body.
- 19:41Speaker 1: Yeah, so I'm guessing he sexually assaulted her in a.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Different Police searched the surrounding area, but it was at
- 19:49Speaker 2: the bottom of this ravine near the tracks. There was
- 19:53Speaker 2: lots of trash left all over the ground, like it
- 19:55Speaker 2: was a dumping ground for people.
- 19:57Speaker 1: Yeah, like big they were throwing. It was that place
- 19:59Speaker 1: where they're rolling shit down the hill, tires, appliances, whatever.
- 20:04Speaker 1: They don't want to.
- 20:04Speaker 2: They don't want to spend the ten dollars to go
- 20:06Speaker 2: to the dome.
- 20:06Speaker 1: Yeah. People are so trashy, quite figuratively and literally with
- 20:11Speaker 1: all the appliances, just so tacky. It is not demure.
- 20:17Speaker 1: It is not cutees.
- 20:18Speaker 2: Stay Jesus, I hate that trend. So then they were
- 20:23Speaker 2: able to recover some helpful forensic evidence, and this included
- 20:27Speaker 2: Terra's keys to her car, a cigarette butt, and the
- 20:31Speaker 2: filter which was detached from the cigarette terror.
- 20:35Speaker 1: Which is apparently like a weird thing to do now.
- 20:38Speaker 2: Some people like unfiltered cigarettes, okay, and if they can't
- 20:41Speaker 2: find them, they just rip the filter off.
- 20:43Speaker 1: Though I'm as pure as the driven snow. I've not
- 20:45Speaker 1: smoked a cigarette in my life.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Terra's shirt was also laying balled up near her, with
- 20:55Speaker 2: a shoeprint on the shirt and a twenty two caliber
- 20:59Speaker 2: bullet casing.
- 21:02Speaker 1: So they run the ballistics and they find that the
- 21:04Speaker 1: gun that was used to shoot Tara was actually very unique.
- 21:08Speaker 1: There's only three types of guns that would make those
- 21:10Speaker 1: types of markings on the bullet casing, and they were
- 21:13Speaker 1: all by the same manufacturer. And then in the end
- 21:16Speaker 1: they figured out it was a Marlin gun. Sto that
- 21:19Speaker 1: means something to you, yes, okay, So apparently the same
- 21:22Speaker 1: manufacturer though, made these three types and it's very specific
- 21:25Speaker 1: because I guess it's almost like a fingerprint with the gun.
- 21:28Speaker 1: The marking on the casing yeah.
- 21:32Speaker 2: I believe it's a I think Remington owns Marlins now,
- 21:35Speaker 2: but I don't know if they did back in two thousand.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Yeah, So for police, this was a big break in
- 21:42Speaker 1: narrowing down to who the actual killer was. Now, when
- 21:45Speaker 1: processing Tara's shirt, they were able to run the tennis
- 21:47Speaker 1: shoe sole design in the database that they had, and
- 21:51Speaker 1: they found that it would belong to a Nike running
- 21:54Speaker 1: shoe with a herringbone print on the sole. However, because
- 21:57Speaker 1: of the print, it wasn't the full print. They weren't
- 22:01Speaker 1: able to determine his shoe size though, but did they
- 22:03Speaker 1: at least have that the killer is going to have
- 22:06Speaker 1: this type of shoe in their closet. They ran the
- 22:09Speaker 1: DNA through the databases and there were no matches though
- 22:13Speaker 1: to the seminal fluid that they had or what was
- 22:15Speaker 1: found under Terra's fingernails. Now that they had some sort
- 22:19Speaker 1: of framework of who the killer was, they went back
- 22:22Speaker 1: and they spoke to Terra's friends, because again, these are
- 22:25Speaker 1: high school students, so they weren't that open the first
- 22:28Speaker 1: time they spoke to them. So they went back and
- 22:30Speaker 1: checked back when with them, and they admitted that they
- 22:33Speaker 1: had been smoking weed prior to her disappearance. They said
- 22:36Speaker 1: an older man came around to the house and offered
- 22:39Speaker 1: them some marijuana. And the police of course find this
- 22:43Speaker 1: completely odd. I mean, this is a grown man in
- 22:44Speaker 1: his thirties hanging around with high school students.
- 22:47Speaker 2: Do is they hanging out with him? We're just selling
- 22:49Speaker 2: them some weed.
- 22:50Speaker 1: No, he sold in the weed. Then he stayed, oh yeah.
- 22:53Speaker 2: Yes, yes, that's like those uh, those guys that hang
- 22:56Speaker 2: out at the high school hangouts to three or four
- 23:00Speaker 2: years after the party graduated.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Well, that's less weird than a thirty something year old
- 23:06Speaker 1: hanging out with a bunch of sixteen year old.
- 23:07Speaker 2: Sometimes it gets to be that age though, unfortunately because
- 23:10Speaker 2: they have not moved on from high school some of them.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Yeah, so this is a huge red flag for police.
- 23:17Speaker 1: They find out his name was Jeff Thomas, and he
- 23:20Speaker 1: actually knew Tara. She would babysit his six year old
- 23:23Speaker 1: daughter on occasion. Now they found out that he was
- 23:26Speaker 1: when looking into his background, that he was frequently unemployed,
- 23:30Speaker 1: big surprise, and would crash out his different girlfriend's house
- 23:34Speaker 1: or stay in his parents' basement. You know, he's a
- 23:36Speaker 1: real winner, and so he did have a criminal history.
- 23:40Speaker 1: He had actually attacked someone with a bat and then
- 23:42Speaker 1: he spent two years in prison due to that attack.
- 23:46Speaker 2: What a winner, winner checking dinner.
- 23:49Speaker 1: I can't believe he pro created. This is a shame,
- 23:51Speaker 1: it really is. Ladies, we got to I know, so
- 23:53Speaker 1: we got to do better.
- 23:54Speaker 2: I helpe is then six year old daughter, who's power
- 23:57Speaker 2: of old today? What was this two thousand? Oh gosh,
- 24:00Speaker 2: she's thirty now.
- 24:01Speaker 1: Yeah, hopefully she's Hopefully she does yes, and hopefully she
- 24:06Speaker 1: had a good mom that kept her away from this loser.
- 24:12Speaker 2: So the police bring Jeff in for questioning and he
- 24:15Speaker 2: denies that he had any involvement in this. Of course,
- 24:18Speaker 2: they asked him if he has a gun. He tells
- 24:20Speaker 2: them no, but his friend Kevin Williams does have a
- 24:24Speaker 2: twenty two caliber gun.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Of course Kevin does.
- 24:26Speaker 2: With Kevin, he said that he had Kevin's gun but
- 24:30Speaker 2: had given it to another friend by the name of
- 24:32Speaker 2: Leonard Dalton Leonard to give back to Kevin.
- 24:36Speaker 1: So this is a a a hot game of hot
- 24:38Speaker 1: potato pass. But it's a gun.
- 24:41Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what it sounds like. He's like, uh, yeah,
- 24:43Speaker 2: I know this gun. I had borrowed it, but I
- 24:45Speaker 2: gave it back. I don't.
- 24:45Speaker 1: I don't give it to somebody else. I didn't give
- 24:47Speaker 1: it to Kevin, but I gave it to Leonard. Yes,
- 24:49Speaker 1: Leonard's got the gun.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Leonard has it. Jeff gives them his alibi and he
- 24:55Speaker 2: has let go. Jeff told police that he stayed at
- 24:57Speaker 2: his friend at Kevin's home that night.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Again Kevin's. He's obviously pushing the police towards Kevin.
- 25:05Speaker 2: They then look into his friend Kevin to see what
- 25:08Speaker 2: type of person he is. They bring Kevin in and
- 25:11Speaker 2: he tells police that he does own a twenty two
- 25:13Speaker 2: caliber rifle, but the Jeff was taking care of.
- 25:16Speaker 1: It for him like a chia pet.
- 25:18Speaker 2: I'm cleaning it and shooting.
- 25:20Speaker 1: Like like my sourdough starters do. Like whenever I told
- 25:23Speaker 1: Stuck the other day, I was like, Okay, I'm gonna
- 25:25Speaker 1: have to have you. Sometimes I don't have time in
- 25:27Speaker 1: the morning to like feed it or whatever, and so
- 25:31Speaker 1: I told Stu. I was like, You're gonna have to
- 25:32Speaker 1: He's like looking at me, like seriously.
- 25:35Speaker 2: I got a fourth child there, Yes, we got cats
- 25:39Speaker 2: to feed, children to feed. Now I got a feed?
- 25:42Speaker 2: What the hell kind of crap that I get myself into?
- 25:46Speaker 2: I don't know. Evidently somebody the podcast to I don't
- 25:48Speaker 2: know you were a podcast.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Or yeah, I did get you into that. Geting got
- 25:53Speaker 1: him all these children, got him a podcast. We got
- 25:58Speaker 1: him a sourdough starter. We run a supper club on
- 26:01Speaker 1: the weekends.
- 26:02Speaker 2: I got all sorts of things going on dealing food
- 26:05Speaker 2: out of our house. Were dealers.
- 26:08Speaker 1: Completely legal in Texas. Get for the food.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Getting back to our story at hand, Kevin said he
- 26:16Speaker 2: did not want to carry it up his icy driveway,
- 26:19Speaker 2: so Jeff offered to keep it. What the hell does
- 26:21Speaker 2: that even mean?
- 26:23Speaker 1: I think, I think because it's a rifle, And so
- 26:25Speaker 1: Jeff had taken him to drop him off and they
- 26:28Speaker 1: couldn't drive up the icy driveway one day because it
- 26:30Speaker 1: was in like that it was. He said it was
- 26:32Speaker 1: a time frame that he handed it to him, and
- 26:34Speaker 1: it was sometimes sometime at the end of December to
- 26:36Speaker 1: this January, so the driveway was super icy. So I
- 26:40Speaker 1: guess it's a rifle. So he didn't want to try
- 26:42Speaker 1: to balance that walking up the driveway, balance.
- 26:45Speaker 2: It not balance, didn't want to carry it fall down
- 26:50Speaker 2: and mess up his rifle.
- 26:51Speaker 1: Yes, that's what I'm saying. He didn't want to have
- 26:52Speaker 1: to walk and balance carrying a rifle and risks falling
- 26:56Speaker 1: carrying this up the icy driveway, and Jeff couldn't drive
- 26:59Speaker 1: up they so Jeff's like, hey, I'll take care of
- 27:02Speaker 1: it for you.
- 27:02Speaker 2: I can really, I don't want to enter Starter. I
- 27:05Speaker 2: don't want to drop my firearms on the pavement either.
- 27:08Speaker 1: I don't want to drop my sourdough starter, So I
- 27:10Speaker 1: would again ask someone to hold it for me.
- 27:13Speaker 2: Kevin told police that he sometimes used the gun for
- 27:16Speaker 2: target practice in his own backyard. He also told them
- 27:19Speaker 2: that Jeff did not stay at his home the night
- 27:22Speaker 2: of the the murder. The murder the night.
- 27:27Speaker 1: It was a mistype, Stewart, I see that. Okay.
- 27:30Speaker 2: Police head to his home and search the backyard to
- 27:32Speaker 2: see if they can recover some kind some type of
- 27:35Speaker 2: shell casings. They are able to find two, and they
- 27:38Speaker 2: send them off to compare to the casings found at
- 27:40Speaker 2: the crime scene. And they are a match.
- 27:44Speaker 1: They're identical, yes, And like we said, these are like
- 27:48Speaker 1: very unique uh shell casing. So it was it's like
- 27:53Speaker 1: a like a fingerprint for that type of gun.
- 27:55Speaker 2: Well and anything as a fingerprint, okay, because the primer
- 27:59Speaker 2: strikes the a shell in a certain area.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Yeah, so whatever. Anyways, it's a match.
- 28:04Speaker 2: It's a match. It's a twenty two shell you can
- 28:06Speaker 2: get into Walmart. I don't know what's unique about a Marlin.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Okay, well they just said it's this specific type. There's
- 28:11Speaker 1: only three.
- 28:11Speaker 2: That do that rifling. Yes, yeah, police know that this
- 28:16Speaker 2: is the gun that was used to kill Tara, but
- 28:18Speaker 2: which man was responsible. They don't know who's telling the truth.
- 28:22Speaker 2: They got to figure it out.
- 28:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean Jeff was seen with them, heard the
- 28:26Speaker 1: day of, so that's a red flag. But they're all
- 28:29Speaker 1: sketchy characters. Not Kevin, Leonard and Jeff were all sketchies.
- 28:33Speaker 2: Finea seems fine.
- 28:35Speaker 1: Kevin's not fine, Stewart, I don't know what's wrong with Yes,
- 28:39Speaker 1: he's hanging out with Jeff, moving on one of our
- 28:41Speaker 1: first favorite phrases. While they're looking into these two men,
- 28:45Speaker 1: they had an unexpected break in the case. Now, there
- 28:48Speaker 1: was a woman who was stopped by police for a
- 28:50Speaker 1: moving violation, and she told the officer that she knew
- 28:53Speaker 1: something about the Terremancy case, which I too, would say
- 28:57Speaker 1: anything to get out of traffic ticket. This was a
- 29:00Speaker 1: new one.
- 29:01Speaker 2: She was like a.
- 29:03Speaker 1: I did cry. Yeah, did you worry out of it?
- 29:07Speaker 2: I tried it and he gave me an extra ticket
- 29:08Speaker 2: for being a bit.
- 29:11Speaker 1: Anyway, So she tells the officer that she knew Jeff
- 29:15Speaker 1: Thomas and that he had been staying with her during
- 29:17Speaker 1: the time of that Tara was killed because again he
- 29:21Speaker 1: finds new girlfriends and he crashes on their you know,
- 29:24Speaker 1: crashes with them. She was brought in for questioning, where
- 29:27Speaker 1: she told police that the night of the murder, she
- 29:29Speaker 1: remembered Jeff coming home very early the next morning, around
- 29:32Speaker 1: six thirty am. He was muddy, and he was acting frantic,
- 29:35Speaker 1: and he had a scratch on his face. Jeff told
- 29:38Speaker 1: the woman that he quote had just fucked up and
- 29:42Speaker 1: that he quote wished he had done it a different way,
- 29:45Speaker 1: that he didn't mean to do it, and those are
- 29:46Speaker 1: his words. Continuing, Jeff told her that he had met
- 29:49Speaker 1: Tara at her job and then they went down the
- 29:52Speaker 1: road to party a little bit. This is again what
- 29:54Speaker 1: Jeff's saying, so we're not sure. And he assumed she
- 29:58Speaker 1: wanted sex. He so again, he's thirty seven years old
- 30:01Speaker 1: and this is a sixteen year old girl, So like whatever, yeah, cool,
- 30:06Speaker 1: Jeff told the woman that they got into an argument
- 30:08Speaker 1: near a deserted spot that had a ditch, and during
- 30:11Speaker 1: the argument, Tara pushed Jeff and he pushed her and
- 30:14Speaker 1: she fell down. According to the woman, Jeff said that
- 30:18Speaker 1: Tara was on her hands and knees and that's when
- 30:20Speaker 1: he grabbed the gun from his side and shot her
- 30:23Speaker 1: three times in the head. Like, why was the gun
- 30:26Speaker 1: on your side. It's a rifle, it's not like it's
- 30:28Speaker 1: like holstered. Yes, yeah, he made it sound like it
- 30:32Speaker 1: was like this this like non intentional act that he
- 30:35Speaker 1: was doing. When he's telling this woman, he obviously they
- 30:39Speaker 1: can tell by the forensic evidence that he stomped on
- 30:43Speaker 1: her chest at some point, holding her down, and then
- 30:45Speaker 1: shot her like you know, towards the ground. But when
- 30:49Speaker 1: he's describing it to this woman, he's just acting like
- 30:51Speaker 1: this all just suddenly happened, just like it's just a
- 30:54Speaker 1: naturally occurring thing that happened.
- 30:56Speaker 2: Yes, the temptress tempted me into going to have sex
- 30:59Speaker 2: and then some happened and I made me do it.
- 31:04Speaker 1: Yeah, So the fact that Tara had been shot three
- 31:07Speaker 1: times in the head. Oh. He also told the woman
- 31:10Speaker 1: that he threw the gun in the water. So the
- 31:13Speaker 1: fact that Tara had been shot in the head three
- 31:14Speaker 1: times was information only known by police and the killer.
- 31:17Speaker 1: They did not release that information to the public. So
- 31:21Speaker 1: he told the woman not to tell anyone that he
- 31:23Speaker 1: had been there what had happened, And the woman said
- 31:25Speaker 1: the reason that she hadn't came forward before because she
- 31:28Speaker 1: was really scared of Jeff, which I mean does make sense. So,
- 31:33Speaker 1: I mean it's it hasn't been that long since the
- 31:36Speaker 1: murders of this souls happening within a month's time of
- 31:39Speaker 1: or less than a month from when Tara was killed.
- 31:43Speaker 2: With this information, police are able to obtain a search warrant.
- 31:47Speaker 2: When processing Jeff's car, they found shoes that matched the
- 31:50Speaker 2: prints of the shoes from the crime scene.
- 31:53Speaker 1: Yeah, he didn't even get rid of his shoes. It's
- 31:55Speaker 1: probably though, I think most of his belongings were in
- 31:57Speaker 1: the car, so he probably didn't have any other shoes,
- 31:59Speaker 1: you know, like this was it like if he got
- 32:01Speaker 1: rid of his that chair of shoes, he wouldn't have barefoot.
- 32:04Speaker 2: Yes, they also recovered ten strands of hair with the
- 32:08Speaker 2: roots attached. Three of these matched Terror's DNA. They also
- 32:12Speaker 2: collected his DNA and compared it to the biological evidence
- 32:16Speaker 2: found on Tara that was also a match. It also
- 32:20Speaker 2: matched the DNA found on the cigarette found at the
- 32:22Speaker 2: crime scene. On February seventeenth, two thousand, Jeff was arrested,
- 32:27Speaker 2: charged and charged with capital murder and using a firearm
- 32:30Speaker 2: while committing a capital murder. Police believe he stopped at
- 32:34Speaker 2: the Taco Bell around the time Terror was getting off.
- 32:37Speaker 2: He offered her some marijuana and that's how he got
- 32:39Speaker 2: her to go with him.
- 32:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm wonder if she just kind of because she
- 32:43Speaker 1: did leave the food behind, if she just thought it
- 32:46Speaker 1: was probably cold, so she probably got in his car
- 32:48Speaker 1: and then he probably took off with theirs.
- 32:49Speaker 2: What I'm thinking, block and yeah, you don't want to
- 32:54Speaker 2: be sent in a parking lot one to comps roll.
- 32:55Speaker 1: Up, No in front of your place of work, even
- 32:59Speaker 1: if it's a taco bell. Don't watch you out there
- 33:00Speaker 1: getting high in the parking lot. No.
- 33:03Speaker 2: What police believe is that he then propositioned her for sex,
- 33:07Speaker 2: and when she refused, he attacked her. She was able
- 33:10Speaker 2: to scratch his face while fending him off, but he
- 33:12Speaker 2: overpowered her and at some point sexually assaulted her. He
- 33:15Speaker 2: then shot her multiple times, kicked her body down the ravine,
- 33:19Speaker 2: and then smoked a cigarette. In an interview after his arrest,
- 33:23Speaker 2: he said that on the day of the murder, Tara
- 33:25Speaker 2: had gone to the bank to get money out to
- 33:27Speaker 2: buy weed from him. This was confirmed with baked statements
- 33:31Speaker 2: of Terror's. He then stopped talking and asked for counsel.
- 33:35Speaker 2: In March of two thousand and one, Jeff Thomas was
- 33:38Speaker 2: tried and convicted of capital murder. He was sentenced to death,
- 33:42Speaker 2: but Tara's mom opposed the death penalty. He was then
- 33:46Speaker 2: re sentenced in two thousand and two to life without parole,
- 33:49Speaker 2: which Tara's mom I don't care because if Jeff's sentence
- 33:54Speaker 2: gets commuted because you.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Don't they listen to you, she's dead now soon.
- 33:59Speaker 2: Well. Still, people, just because you're opposed to the death
- 34:04Speaker 2: penalty doesn't mean you get to choose what happens, even
- 34:06Speaker 2: if they murdered your family member.
- 34:08Speaker 1: Well, see, this is where I'm of the opposite opinion
- 34:11Speaker 1: of Stu. Because if it's your family member and you
- 34:16Speaker 1: want the death penalty for them, then I think you
- 34:18Speaker 1: should be able to go after that. But if that's
- 34:20Speaker 1: your But if you're the family member, then and you
- 34:23Speaker 1: don't want the death penalty. That's also your choice because
- 34:26Speaker 1: they give the families the choice. They currently give the
- 34:28Speaker 1: families the choice. Now what they want to go after.
- 34:31Speaker 2: Yeah, well that's too bad.
- 34:33Speaker 1: Well that's because of his life.
- 34:34Speaker 2: If his sentence gets commuted and then he can get
- 34:36Speaker 2: out of jail and come and get somebody else.
- 34:38Speaker 1: Well, this is true, but I'm just saying that the family,
- 34:41Speaker 1: they talk to the families. Do you want to go
- 34:43Speaker 1: for the death penalty or do you want They always
- 34:45Speaker 1: talk to the families, So I'm just saying.
- 34:49Speaker 2: Well, I mean I would not go for the death penalty.
- 34:51Speaker 2: If it meant that he was going to get something,
- 34:54Speaker 2: he might get a lighter sentence than life with parole. Say, hey,
- 34:59Speaker 2: if we go for this, he got lost without parole.
- 35:01Speaker 2: If we go for this first degree murder with the
- 35:03Speaker 2: death penalty, it could fall through and the jury and
- 35:06Speaker 2: bad things could happen in the sentencing. So would you
- 35:09Speaker 2: like to go for a lesser sentence?
- 35:10Speaker 1: Well, to be honest with you, though, he probably he
- 35:12Speaker 1: got convicted and was sentenced to death. But look at
- 35:15Speaker 1: Scott Peterson was that too, and they've changed his sentence,
- 35:18Speaker 1: so who knows? She just didn't want that.
- 35:20Speaker 2: And then well they said there was something wrong with
- 35:21Speaker 2: his something about the when they screened him for bias
- 35:27Speaker 2: and the death penalty or something, which.
- 35:28Speaker 1: We'll cover in our special patreons.
- 35:31Speaker 2: I think it was him. I might have been somebody
- 35:33Speaker 2: else that.
- 35:33Speaker 1: Got commuted anyways, but yeah, the mom didn't want it,
- 35:37Speaker 1: so they she asked for leniency I guess for and
- 35:41Speaker 1: that's just what. I don't know what the dad's opinion was.
- 35:44Speaker 1: They did. The mom and dad did get remarried after
- 35:46Speaker 1: the daughter's death, and then the mom died of cancer
- 35:49Speaker 1: in I think two thousand and six. So let's hope
- 35:52Speaker 1: he doesn't get out people, but he I doubt anybody's
- 35:56Speaker 1: commuting old Jeff Thomas's sentence.
- 36:00Speaker 2: He didn't seem like a likely cannonate for a commutation.
- 36:03Speaker 1: No. Anyways, all right, well that's our case for this week.
- 36:07Speaker 1: Stu's controversial opinions there at the end.
- 36:10Speaker 2: Just what pro death penalty is controversial?
- 36:13Speaker 1: No, I'm just if the family didn't want it, I mean,
- 36:16Speaker 1: who am I to argue?
- 36:17Speaker 2: I am?
- 36:18Speaker 1: Okay, all right, you have a yell need Jesus.
- 36:21Speaker 2: I have one? Okay, would you like to hear it?
- 36:24Speaker 1: Yes, do you have it ready to go?
- 36:25Speaker 2: Of course I do.
- 36:26Speaker 1: All right, Well we'll see.
- 36:29Speaker 2: MTA worker who slashed himself faked subway attack so he
- 36:34Speaker 2: could take the summer off, speaks out. He said he
- 36:37Speaker 2: did it for love, obviously, not Florida.
- 36:42Speaker 1: Well, it could be Florida in a subway.
- 36:44Speaker 2: Oh what subways they got in Florida.
- 36:47Speaker 1: I thought you were saying that because it was the
- 36:48Speaker 1: New York Post, like it could be Florida. But yeah,
- 36:50Speaker 1: they don't have a not a lot of subways over there.
- 36:53Speaker 2: With the Florida.
- 36:55Speaker 1: It was just like sinking into the ground over there.
- 36:57Speaker 1: That still terrifies me that they have those sinkholes.
- 37:01Speaker 2: Yeah, over and in the Tampa area, I think is
- 37:02Speaker 2: worth they're more common.
- 37:03Speaker 1: Yeah, that's like I still remember that story about that
- 37:06Speaker 1: guy that was in his bed and he just.
- 37:07Speaker 2: Was started scramming and the brother ran and just watched
- 37:10Speaker 2: him fall into the.
- 37:12Speaker 1: Earthth Yeah, it's crazy. We could fall into a sinkhole here.
- 37:17Speaker 2: There's a lot of there's sink holes here.
- 37:20Speaker 1: I don't know, I just feel like the earth is
- 37:21Speaker 1: in well.
- 37:22Speaker 2: Baby Jessica fell into a well here soon.
- 37:24Speaker 1: Oh yeah, we did learn that the baby Jessica thing
- 37:26Speaker 1: is it was out here?
- 37:27Speaker 2: Yes, we have been reminded of that. Anyway to our
- 37:31Speaker 2: story coming to us from August sixth, twenty twenty four,
- 37:35Speaker 2: by Kevin she Han and George Fitzgibbon. He went off
- 37:40Speaker 2: the rails for love. The MTA worker who claimed he
- 37:45Speaker 2: was attacked in a Queen's subway station by an unhinged stranger,
- 37:48Speaker 2: going as far as to slash his own hands also
- 37:52Speaker 2: he could get the summer off, told the Post he
- 37:54Speaker 2: had a plausible reason for the hoax. Are you ready
- 37:58Speaker 2: to hear this plausible reason?
- 38:00Speaker 1: Sure?
- 38:01Speaker 2: Henry Herring, aged fifty four, in an interview Tuesday, said
- 38:04Speaker 2: fifty four, said he needed time to take care of
- 38:08Speaker 2: his sick fiance. I know what I did looks like
- 38:11Speaker 2: something very horrible whatever, the Brooklyn man admitted. But I
- 38:16Speaker 2: have a very good reason for what I did. Harrying,
- 38:20Speaker 2: the transit system cleaner who was hired last January has
- 38:23Speaker 2: since been suspended without pay, claimed his Galpal. Yes, it's
- 38:26Speaker 2: written as Galpal had two brain surgeries and it caused
- 38:29Speaker 2: brain leakage, and that that he'd go to visit her
- 38:33Speaker 2: at Methodist Hospital every day after he got off work.
- 38:36Speaker 2: I did something stupid. At the end of the day,
- 38:38Speaker 2: I did it for someone I love, he said, I.
- 38:41Speaker 1: Feel sorry for him, do you h Am I going
- 38:45Speaker 1: to change my mind?
- 38:45Speaker 2: Is this story because I have no idea. I did
- 38:48Speaker 2: not read the story. Of course, of course what I
- 38:51Speaker 2: did was stupid. I admit it was very deplorable. At
- 38:54Speaker 2: the end of the day, I wanted to be there
- 38:55Speaker 2: for a family member, he added. I didn't think, he added,
- 39:00Speaker 2: admitted I was a poser, pretentious all of that. The
- 39:04Speaker 2: thing is, I want to be there for someone I
- 39:06Speaker 2: care about. End of the day, I had a real
- 39:08Speaker 2: good reason for what I did. I am not crazy.
- 39:11Speaker 2: Harrying was charged last week with falsely reporting an incident
- 39:14Speaker 2: for telling cops that he was attacked while cleaning the
- 39:16Speaker 2: train at the one seventy ninth Street subway station in
- 39:20Speaker 2: Jamaica shortly after three am on July thirty first.
- 39:23Speaker 1: Jamaica.
- 39:24Speaker 2: Well, there's a place called Jamaica. Oh, but surveillance cameras
- 39:30Speaker 2: to Jamaica, New York, yes, okay, or subway station. I
- 39:35Speaker 2: don't know. I'm not very familiar with the Burrows and
- 39:38Speaker 2: all the inner going.
- 39:39Speaker 1: We're not that cool, yes, we're not that close.
- 39:43Speaker 2: But surveillance cameras caught him red handed and exposed the ruse.
- 39:46Speaker 2: According to a criminal complaint, my goal was to have
- 39:50Speaker 2: the summer off because it was too hot down there,
- 39:52Speaker 2: he allegedly told police. According to court records.
- 39:56Speaker 1: I thought he was going for his girlfriend.
- 39:58Speaker 2: Well, he denied, But the police.
- 40:00Speaker 1: Are saying because if he got attacked, he probably got
- 40:02Speaker 1: paid because it wasn't his. Yeah, he got injured on
- 40:07Speaker 1: the job. This was okay, I take it back. I
- 40:10Speaker 1: don't feel sorry for him. He's full of shit. Does
- 40:12Speaker 1: his girlfriend even exist? Did she have brain surgery? It's
- 40:16Speaker 1: very hot in New York, so yes, I think he's
- 40:19Speaker 1: a liar.
- 40:21Speaker 2: Well, anyway, he said no, I did not say that.
- 40:24Speaker 2: The cop said that you just wanted to take the
- 40:27Speaker 2: summer off, didn't you. I was shaking my head. I
- 40:30Speaker 2: was distraught. The cop I was talking to, he said
- 40:33Speaker 2: it came from a three star chief. That's the MTA
- 40:36Speaker 2: Transit police. They gave him that. They gave him that,
- 40:41Speaker 2: not me. Oh, he's saying that. The cop was asking
- 40:45Speaker 2: him if he wanted the summer off, and he said
- 40:47Speaker 2: he was shaken from the attack. Yeah, and so the
- 40:51Speaker 2: cop said he admitted to just wanting to summer off,
- 40:54Speaker 2: He's saying. He didn't say.
- 40:55Speaker 1: Okay, so maybe I feel yeah, maybe maybe he as
- 41:00Speaker 1: the cop was like, you're a liar. You just want
- 41:02Speaker 1: it off because it's fucking hot.
- 41:03Speaker 3: Out of here.
- 41:05Speaker 2: He's like, no, my girlfriend, it's three o'clock in the morning,
- 41:07Speaker 2: ain't that hut.
- 41:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:09Speaker 2: Harrying did acknowledge that he wanted some time off. With
- 41:12Speaker 2: less than two years on the job, he didn't have
- 41:14Speaker 2: enough a crude time to get a paid leave, he said,
- 41:17Speaker 2: end of the day, we get one sick day a month.
- 41:20Speaker 2: One sick day a month. That's terrible. I used mine up.
- 41:23Speaker 2: I had no choice. You had a choice. He then
- 41:26Speaker 2: admitted that he still had five unused sick days at
- 41:29Speaker 2: the time that he faked the attack, but assumed he
- 41:31Speaker 2: needed them for his physical rehab appointments. Harrying said that
- 41:36Speaker 2: he'll he'd do it all over again given the chance,
- 41:38Speaker 2: but this time he'd be smarter to avoid getting caught
- 41:41Speaker 2: by surveillance cameras.
- 41:42Speaker 1: The po last, He's honest now, I would do.
- 41:45Speaker 2: It all over again if I had to do it
- 41:47Speaker 2: again to be there for her, I would, he said,
- 41:50Speaker 2: I gotta admit I would I probably would go about
- 41:53Speaker 2: it better because I know there's cameras down there. Harrying,
- 41:56Speaker 2: who has fucked the police tattoo on his arm, has
- 41:59Speaker 2: served two Houstonson State prison on robbery and gun chargers.
- 42:02Speaker 1: Okay, I don't believe him again. I'm back to not
- 42:04Speaker 1: believing you.
- 42:06Speaker 2: But he said he's turned a corner and earned associates
- 42:08Speaker 2: and bachelor's degrees.
- 42:09Speaker 1: Okay, maybe I believe him again.
- 42:11Speaker 2: Oh my god. He said, I'm not unemployable. I have
- 42:14Speaker 2: two college degrees.
- 42:15Speaker 1: What are they in?
- 42:16Speaker 2: It does not He then clarified that he has an
- 42:19Speaker 2: associate's degree, but it's still thirteen credit shy of as
- 42:23Speaker 2: bachelor's which he.
- 42:24Speaker 1: Is currently work, which is a semester.
- 42:26Speaker 2: I am employable, but at the same time, I want
- 42:29Speaker 2: to be a career. I want Okay, I'm going too fast.
- 42:33Speaker 2: I want that to be my career. The MTA harringson, well,
- 42:37Speaker 2: it's not going to be anymore. I have nothing bad
- 42:40Speaker 2: to say about the MTA. I muffed up. At the
- 42:43Speaker 2: end of the day. I apologize to everybody, my MTA family. Wow.
- 42:48Speaker 1: Is he still employed at the No, he's suspended without pay.
- 42:51Speaker 2: Yes, while the investigation Okay, don't.
- 42:54Speaker 1: I don't believe him. Now I'm back to he's being sketchy.
- 42:58Speaker 2: Between tending to his fiance, she recovers, anthems.
- 43:01Speaker 1: His fiance girlfriend.
- 43:03Speaker 2: No, it's his fiance. In the beginning, you just don't.
- 43:05Speaker 1: Want you, said girlfriend.
- 43:06Speaker 2: You weren't paying attention.
- 43:07Speaker 1: I said, you called her gal pal.
- 43:10Speaker 2: The story called her a galpal. I did not say that.
- 43:13Speaker 2: Between tending to his fiance as she recovers and physical
- 43:16Speaker 2: therapy for injuries he said he sustained in the car
- 43:20Speaker 2: accident in April, he simply needed a break. I understand,
- 43:24Speaker 2: you just need a break sometimes you're overwhelmed.
- 43:26Speaker 1: Well, the problem is the problem is he needed to
- 43:28Speaker 1: get paid. But there's some states that you get paid
- 43:31Speaker 1: with your FMLA. But the problem is he's only been
- 43:33Speaker 1: working there since January. You need to be employed a
- 43:36Speaker 1: year to get FMLA benefits.
- 43:38Speaker 2: Well, he said two for that. One's huh. All, well,
- 43:40Speaker 2: FMLA for.
- 43:41Speaker 1: Federal, but I don't know what I think. Some states
- 43:44Speaker 1: like New York, California, they'll pay you during your FMLA,
- 43:47Speaker 1: like other states though won't.
- 43:49Speaker 2: He's got to be married for that, but.
- 43:51Speaker 1: Then he'd also have to be married to her. Then
- 43:53Speaker 1: just being.
- 43:54Speaker 2: Maybe that's a step he in a commitment of hand.
- 43:56Speaker 1: Well, no, no, he's willing to stab himself, but not Mary.
- 44:00Speaker 2: No no, no, no marriage to get His fiance works
- 44:03Speaker 2: for the Department of Social Services at a city migrant
- 44:06Speaker 2: celf shelter, he said, but declined to provide her name,
- 44:10Speaker 2: other details about their relationship, or pictures of the two
- 44:13Speaker 2: of them together.
- 44:14Speaker 1: I think this is very sketchy.
- 44:16Speaker 2: He did provide documents on city stationery that appeared to
- 44:20Speaker 2: show she was approved for a leave of absence from
- 44:22Speaker 2: July five to September twenty.
- 44:24Speaker 1: Do we even know if this woman exists?
- 44:26Speaker 2: We don't harry, and also provided medical records that seemed
- 44:29Speaker 2: to indicate he underwent a cat scan and other procedures
- 44:33Speaker 2: following the injuries he said he sustained in a car
- 44:35Speaker 2: crash on April nineteenth. If I had a chance to
- 44:40Speaker 2: right this wrong, I would, he said of his slashing ruse.
- 44:45Speaker 2: I love my job, I love the MTA. They gave
- 44:47Speaker 2: me a chance. I messed up. I wasn't thinking. I
- 44:50Speaker 2: suggest you don't.
- 44:51Speaker 1: Try it, noted sir.
- 44:54Speaker 2: His nextor his next court date is on the October eighth.
- 44:59Speaker 2: He said he wanted to t on his side after
- 45:00Speaker 2: seeing the Post front page story about his case, which
- 45:05Speaker 2: he seemed to enjoy. When I saw myself on the
- 45:08Speaker 2: front page, I had to clap back, he said. And
- 45:11Speaker 2: may and may look stupid to the world. Loco motive.
- 45:17Speaker 2: That was his headline, Loco motive. But at the end
- 45:21Speaker 2: of the day, that's what I did what I did.
- 45:25Speaker 2: That's why I did what I did. It was all
- 45:28Speaker 2: for love.
- 45:31Speaker 1: This is why you shouldn't cover these things, because look,
- 45:33Speaker 1: he got a big kick out of being on the
- 45:35Speaker 1: front page, even though it was for something not good.
- 45:37Speaker 2: So slashing his own hands, all right, why things a fact?
- 45:41Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, well I'm back to not believing him. I
- 45:44Speaker 1: don't there was There should be some Facebook pictures of
- 45:47Speaker 1: him and the girlfriend or something, you know, there should
- 45:50Speaker 1: be something something that we can verify, Yes, verify they
- 45:55Speaker 1: know each other. He didn't find just some random girl
- 45:58Speaker 1: in the hospital that was in a car wreck like something.
- 46:02Speaker 1: All right, well that's it for us too. We better
- 46:05Speaker 1: go check on these children.
- 46:06Speaker 2: Make sure they're Yeah, they're awful quiet.
- 46:08Speaker 1: They're awfully quiet, which is a They were awfully quiet earlier,
- 46:11Speaker 1: and I thought they were in there watching Miss Rachel
- 46:14Speaker 1: or Miss Apple and they were in here pulling all
- 46:19Speaker 1: the the shredder bags off the roll.
- 46:22Speaker 2: I don't even know how you just not. If Miss
- 46:25Speaker 2: Apple's on TV, you watch Miss appen.
- 46:27Speaker 1: I know my brother cames like, I'll watch Miss Apple too.
- 46:30Speaker 2: I'll watch Miss Apple.
- 46:33Speaker 1: Anyways. All right, well check us out Patreon. We got that.
- 46:38Speaker 1: You gotta sign up for the Patroons, we got the

- 47:22Speaker 3: and it's pretty learning and sick. It's worthy.
- 47:31Speaker 1: I can
