- 0:18i'm a social media I don't want people to think
- 0:25that I get on the internet and start hating people
- 0:27on social media. That's not what I do. The first
- 0:29half was absolutely, absolutely horrible. You
- 0:33know, just inept offense, inept defense, special
- 0:37teams, you name it. I'm going to turn into Oprah.
- 0:40Why were you so angry? He sucks this season.
- 0:45This game, whatever, whatever's going on, right?
- 0:47And then in the very next pitch, guess what?
- 0:50They double Homer. And he's like, told you that.
- 0:53Why are you always knocking down people? Listen,
- 0:55you got the highs and the lows. Yeah, so I knew
- 0:58that. You need the highs and the lows. So I do
- 1:01that, yeah. I'm trying to be the voice of reason
- 1:04here. I am what I am. Hey, what's up, everybody?
- 1:18Welcome to another episode of Fanatically Speaking.
- 1:20I'm Kent, co -host and promoter. I am Log Off,
- 1:24the Log Off legend, the hater of social media.
- 1:26I'm the co -host and producer of the show. And
- 1:28today is a special show. We have a first guest
- 1:33collab. It is historic. We have Ivory Craig Jr.
- 1:38join us. What's going on? What's going on? Appreciate
- 1:41you guys having me on. Absolutely. And ivory
- 1:45you have your own podcast called ivory soapbox
- 1:48So so what uh, tell us about that. Tell us what
- 1:52got you into it and a little bit about yourself
- 1:54Yeah, so I started my podcast a lot later Than
- 2:01I thought I was gonna start it if that makes
- 2:03sense It was one of those situations where I
- 2:06thought about it people told me I should do it
- 2:08and then You know just life happens and you end
- 2:11up don't not knowing how to do something and
- 2:14and so Knowing how is like over half of like
- 2:17actually getting something done. And so finally
- 2:19figuring out I youtube everything so youtube
- 2:22how to like start a podcast and it was one of
- 2:25those things that I just Said, okay. I'm going
- 2:27to build the airplane as I fly it and everything
- 2:31came out Like I mean kind of pretty much like
- 2:34I expected. It's just a lot more that goes into
- 2:37actually starting a podcast and doing everything,
- 2:42you know, like whenever you're the not only the
- 2:45creator, the director, the producer, the actual
- 2:48host is just so much that goes on into it. And
- 2:51once you actually get the show done and completed,
- 2:54you want to get the show out as soon as possible,
- 2:56of course. And so that was a big thing for me,
- 2:59just actually getting it off the ground and myself
- 3:04and. you guys, we're both into the small group
- 3:08of people that actually get a podcast through
- 3:11so many episodes. So pat on the back for both
- 3:14of us, for sure. Yeah, for sure. We can't, yeah,
- 3:19we count those episodes. We're like, okay, we're
- 3:21reaching to this, this milestone and next milestone
- 3:23and, uh, and then have those goals as far as
- 3:26listeners as well, uh, downloads. Oh yeah. Those
- 3:30analytics, they matter. I mean, It's one of those
- 3:32things where I love actually like I don't care
- 3:35who listens because my podcast is more so for
- 3:38the future uh for like children to listen to
- 3:42my children to listen to later on down the road
- 3:44whenever i'm not around and maybe I could reach
- 3:47somebody out there that was like okay I understand
- 3:50what he's saying and so I don't even care who
- 3:52listens however of course the analytics they
- 3:54matter a lot for sure Yeah, it's good to see
- 3:58your stats, man. It is. You want to see the stats
- 4:02on the scoreboard sometimes. No, I totally understand
- 4:04it. No, 100%. That's a good perspective to put
- 4:07it in because it's one of those things. Okay,
- 4:09I'm not playing this game for me, you know, but
- 4:11at the same time, it's just like, okay, I dropped
- 4:1440, so I'm good with that. That's right. What
- 4:18would you say just getting it off the ground?
- 4:20What was your biggest challenge if you had to
- 4:22pick one? My biggest challenge was simply starting
- 4:25it. I think once I got motivated and started
- 4:27getting some equipment and getting it actually
- 4:32filmed and like seeing that, hey, there's like
- 4:36clips and soundbites that I could use. And it's
- 4:39a cool process because honestly, you might think
- 4:42there's a lot of people doing it in the world
- 4:44if you look at it that way. But if you look locally,
- 4:46there's not a whole lot of us doing this stuff.
- 4:49And so whenever you know someone who's shooting
- 4:51a podcast and you get to listen to someone talk
- 4:55about something locally like, oh yeah, I'm familiar
- 4:57with that. I think that goes a long way in itself
- 5:00right there. So I think the hardest part for
- 5:02me was simply just starting it because it took
- 5:04years to do that. You know, you could give so
- 5:07many different excuses, but finally you're just
- 5:10like, okay, do it or do it or not, you know?
- 5:14Gotcha. No, absolutely, man. Yeah, you mentioned
- 5:18locally, like you said, there are, there's now
- 5:20only a few of us. Learned about one the other
- 5:23day. Somebody told me they said someone says
- 5:24got a pie I was like had no idea right exactly
- 5:28Yeah, if they're on and if they're on social
- 5:30media like log off, you know, I don't know. Yeah
- 5:33No, you're spot -on with that because there's
- 5:38been people like oh, yeah, but the worst part
- 5:40I think about it is it's not the people that
- 5:42say they have a podcast is the people that say
- 5:44oh, yeah I thought about starting a podcast and
- 5:47I'm just like Okay, but you didn't like you haven't
- 5:51Like send it to me when you get it up and running,
- 5:54but like, don't tell me that like, Oh yeah, I
- 5:56thought about it. Like, you know, it's like doers
- 5:58do. As far as your show, what, what's the purpose
- 6:02of you creating the podcast? Like what's kind
- 6:04of your, from, from week to week episode to episode,
- 6:08like, what are you looking to put out? Is it
- 6:09more current events? Is it more just kind of
- 6:12hot button topic issues of the moment? Like what
- 6:14comes to mind for you for that? It's, it's a
- 6:17little bit of both a mixture is. past stories
- 6:20because I personally feel like I have a cool
- 6:23story to tell. And so it's a different perspective
- 6:27that a lot of people don't necessarily have the
- 6:29opportunity to hear or listen to because a lot
- 6:33of people that have experienced some things that
- 6:35don't tell their story, you know, and so you
- 6:38have to hear a lot of this stuff from people
- 6:40that. you don't know. So you can't maybe empathize
- 6:44or you're not able to understand completely because
- 6:46you don't know where that person come from because
- 6:48it's a stranger. And so with me, like it's a
- 6:52lot of stuff in my past, but also just current
- 6:55events, what's going on. I've talked about anything
- 6:59under the sun. I feel like in the last nine months
- 7:03that I've started doing this, but at the same
- 7:06time, I think it's just hot topics or are tough
- 7:10to grasp, of course, because it's like, okay,
- 7:13hot topic. We're not privy to the setup and everything
- 7:17that these people that are getting paid to do
- 7:19it are. So we can't just pop on and say, okay,
- 7:21we need to talk about this. It might take me
- 7:25a week to get on there and talk about something,
- 7:28you know, and it like that hot topic could have
- 7:29passed already, but I still like to give my perspective
- 7:32on it. So I think that's a big thing right there.
- 7:36But a lot of times it's just kind of updates
- 7:37on what's going on with me and my world and trying
- 7:41to give perspective on local things that's happening
- 7:43and just stuff like that. Yeah, staying relevant
- 7:47with the topics is also, you know, it is a challenge.
- 7:50That might be the biggest challenge sometimes,
- 7:53especially for like us doing sports. We want
- 7:55to make, you know, we have to plan it accordingly.
- 7:59That way it's not too old and nobody cares about
- 8:01it. Oh, 100%. Yeah. But I know a lot of things,
- 8:05like you said, if it really is a hot topic, someone
- 8:08will listen. I mean, I do the same thing. I listen
- 8:10to stuff all the time. I don't care how old it
- 8:12is. Oh, yeah, 100%. Just somebody's perspective
- 8:15that you know, I think that's a huge thing. But
- 8:18yeah, sometimes you got to strike where the iron's
- 8:20hot with a lot of these things. And so that's
- 8:23what I try to do, of course. But at the same
- 8:25time, you know, I mean, life happens. We're all...
- 8:28tired, things going on, children's sports, and
- 8:31work got you down, and all kinds of stuff. So
- 8:34it is hard to jump on there whenever you got
- 8:36things going on 24 -7. But you have to take advantage
- 8:39of them though when you can. And I'll say this,
- 8:42Ivory, you've talked about to me or us about
- 8:46doing TikToks and videos back in COVID. And by
- 8:50the way, you were very entertaining doing that
- 8:52stuff. I appreciate it. Yeah, you really were.
- 8:55And you still are. Right. So so you like say
- 8:58you do video and audio. And that's one good thing
- 9:00you got going is when you post that you did an
- 9:02episode, you have that video to go with the audio,
- 9:06which is pretty cool. And that's a goal for us
- 9:08eventually to get there in some sort of fashion.
- 9:11But like you said. It was one challenge to start
- 9:14the podcast. And then it's like for us, it's
- 9:17getting a location and a background and all that
- 9:19fun stuff. But you're doing a really good job.
- 9:21And like you said, with the social media, it's
- 9:23good that you have your face, your video and
- 9:26the audio too. Nah, I appreciate that for sure.
- 9:29Cause I mean, when you put yourself out there
- 9:30like that, of course you do want people to at
- 9:33least pay attention a little bit, but a lot of
- 9:35times it, it. Turns out really well because people
- 9:38might not like or comment on the post that I
- 9:40share which is fine But at the same time when
- 9:42you see somebody in person they bring it up to
- 9:45you, you know I'm saying they see it It's out
- 9:47there and they might not just pay a whole lot
- 9:49of attention to it by liking or commenting But
- 9:51they do see the video and stuff and just by being
- 9:54on the quick video with you guys Like you guys
- 9:57would absolutely kill if you had some Like video
- 10:00out there to be able to show those sound bites
- 10:02and stuff because I mean a lot of times ken I
- 10:04think we spoke on the phone the other day just
- 10:06about like if i'm on instagram And I see a professional
- 10:10microphone with headphones and like a background
- 10:13or something Like i'm probably gonna listen,
- 10:16you know i'm saying like it don't even really
- 10:18matter what they're talking about Like i'll listen
- 10:19for a second because a lot of stuff is super
- 10:22random and I just get grabbed into the story,
- 10:24you know Right. It's that social media feed that
- 10:28log off don't know about Hold on. Not only do
- 10:33I not know about it, don't care about it either.
- 10:37Honestly though, you are so lucky though. There
- 10:40are so many times I wish I didn't have social
- 10:42media. It's just so impactful for my business
- 10:45where I have to, but man. No, and I get that
- 10:50and it's one of the things I make sure to kind
- 10:52of repeat. I don't want to ruin social media
- 10:56for anybody else. I know there's people who make
- 10:59their living based on social media. Literally.
- 11:02Yeah. I, I G interactions, especially like you
- 11:05working in real estate. Like that is it's imperative
- 11:07to have a presence. Um, but for me, it, it, I
- 11:11sleep easy at night, knowing, knowing that I
- 11:15don't have any IG posts or, you know, any Facebook
- 11:18feeds to maintain, but that's just for me. Yes.
- 11:22Yeah. It is great. I mean, there's so many people
- 11:24I know that just Like with me during campaign
- 11:28season for city council and stuff like that,
- 11:30if I didn't have social media during campaign
- 11:32season, my unofficial campaign slogan was, I
- 11:35hate campaign season, but I guarantee you it
- 11:38would have been, I love campaign season if it
- 11:40wasn't for social media, because there's them
- 11:42keyboard warriors on there, man. They get on
- 11:45there, then they'll see you in person. They will
- 11:47not be the same person as they were two days
- 11:50ago online. that mount holly town talk i swear
- 11:54man you know you know you know hey but social
- 11:58media i will say this and we'll go to something
- 12:00else but like i said social media is what you
- 12:02make it so yeah yeah for sure Yeah, it is and
- 12:06I did have one more thing and you actually beat
- 12:08me to it a little bit ivory So you mentioned,
- 12:11you know you you make your content you post it
- 12:14you put it out there It may not get the exact
- 12:17reaction that you think something really good
- 12:19that you've done should get online but you meet
- 12:22people in person and Then you have some, you
- 12:25know conversations or exchanges with them about
- 12:26something that you created They just didn't happen
- 12:29to you know heart it or like it or share it,
- 12:31right? So what would you say kind of got? Um,
- 12:35not necessarily the biggest or the best reaction,
- 12:38but just the most memorable one where someone
- 12:40brought it brought something that you made up
- 12:42to you and you were like, you know what, that's
- 12:43cool that they actually came to me and spoke
- 12:45to me about it. Let's see. And I know I'll put
- 12:50you on the spot. You're good. You're good. It
- 12:53was, um, it's probably more so one of the things
- 12:55that, so I'd say it was probably my real estate
- 12:57license when I first got them. So I worked as
- 13:00a police officer. And then I got my real estate
- 13:02license while I was a police officer. So I worked
- 13:05real estate and law enforcement for a year and
- 13:08a half at the same time, full time in both. And
- 13:11then I would have people come up to me and say
- 13:15like, oh, I saw your post about this, man. Congratulations.
- 13:19And I'm just like. appreciate that. And it's
- 13:21like one of those people, it's not everybody,
- 13:23of course, because you don't mentally take note
- 13:25of everyone. But at the same time, there is a
- 13:28few people that you're like, Oh, okay, you didn't
- 13:30like my post or congratulate me on that. Like
- 13:33no big deal. But you're telling me like you're
- 13:36super excited for me in person, you know, so
- 13:39it was definitely a real estate because I have
- 13:41people all the time to that still come up to
- 13:43me saying, Hey, man, saw you were top 10 in your
- 13:49company this month or you won that award for
- 13:52this and like literally did not like it or anything
- 13:55online but I do see them interacting online you
- 13:58know but a lot of those people at the same time
- 14:01pop up whenever I post something that's not necessarily
- 14:05I guess controversial or something that they
- 14:07might not agree with then they'll pop up and
- 14:11then comment or do something on there but at
- 14:14the same time when it comes to something that's
- 14:17congratulatory or something, they're not on there
- 14:20congratulating or liking or anything like that,
- 14:22which is, of course, it's just the nature of
- 14:24the beast and it doesn't like do anything to
- 14:27me negative or positively, but at the same time
- 14:30it is noticed. Gotcha what I'll take that as
- 14:34one more check for log off as the anti social
- 14:37media crew That was your answer I mean it's a
- 14:44great answer and it's got to feel good to have
- 14:45people You know, like you said speed you embrace
- 14:48you and congratulate you on something like that.
- 14:50That is an accomplishment You know, that's got
- 14:53to that's got to feel good To, uh, to shift things
- 15:03just a little bit. So the three of us, three
- 15:05grown men, you know, three fathers. And, you
- 15:09know, I'm sure we've had, you know, quite a bit
- 15:11of our ups and downs. You know, you mentioned
- 15:13some things about your past and your upbringing
- 15:15and just kind of your journey to get to this
- 15:17point right now. I'm sure there's been kind of
- 15:19some tumultuous situations. And my question for
- 15:22you is what of a tumultuous nature happened to
- 15:25you that led to you becoming a Dallas Cowboys
- 15:28fan? I knew it was coming. I knew it was coming.
- 15:33Hey, you know, the funny thing about it is and
- 15:35like also kind of a perfect setup off of that.
- 15:37So my dad is a Raiders fan. My dad grew up. Yeah,
- 15:42my dad grew up a Raiders fan. I mean, born in
- 15:45the 60s. John Madden time, you know, when they
- 15:49when they were really good, like, I guess, pre
- 15:53Al Davis going crazy, not listening to anybody,
- 15:56things of that nature. But also. Me being born
- 15:59in 1988, my mom being a Cowboys fan, my aunt
- 16:03being a Cowboys fan. I mean, I was brought up
- 16:06in the best era of Cowboys football. And it was
- 16:10just one of those things where I just like, just
- 16:13grasp to it because I mean, you had the starter
- 16:15jackets, you had. Deion Sanders, I mean, the
- 16:18Cowboys were the it team of the nineties, hate
- 16:22it or love it. They were the it team in the nineties.
- 16:25And so me just being who I am, loyal by nature,
- 16:29I ended up staying with them through a whole
- 16:32lot of thick and thin. 30 years, but who's counting?
- 16:39I don't know. No one's counting, right? No one.
- 16:41I think everybody's counting. I think log off,
- 16:44probably logs on to count the time people are
- 16:47talking juggles on social media about the Cowboys.
- 16:50Not quite, but it's enough. Trust me. I know
- 16:53it's out there. I know it's out there. Oh yeah.
- 16:56To touch on that. So there was a pretty big campaign
- 17:00earlier this season. Dak Prescott was having
- 17:03a moment. He had a stretch of about three or
- 17:05four games where he was super impressive as your
- 17:09quarterback. And I know things are a little down
- 17:12for your Cowboys, but how do you feel about their
- 17:15season thus far? So I'll say this quick, funny
- 17:19thing real quick, and then I'll go into that.
- 17:22But my son who's five years old, I come downstairs
- 17:26with my Tony Romo jersey on, right? And he literally
- 17:31looks at me and says, oh, man, you got a turpent
- 17:34jersey. I want one of those. And I'm just like,
- 17:38wow. Right. I'm just like, man. Wow. Yeah. That
- 17:41threw me off completely because I didn't even
- 17:43put two and two together. And when he said that,
- 17:45I'm just like, bro, like times have changed.
- 17:48I got, I got, I'm, I missed Tony. I'm a big Tony
- 17:51Romo fan. I am. Um, but, but at the same time,
- 17:56I DAC. lot of times that gets the shaft, you
- 17:59know, like he gets the the short end of the stick
- 18:02when it comes because we are America's team,
- 18:05you know, and so everybody either hates the Cowboys
- 18:08or they love the Cowboys and there's that Occasional
- 18:11like I don't even care about football person
- 18:13that's in the middle but I was I am very excited
- 18:17that Dax still playing and he is our quarterback
- 18:19and it's one of those situations where we like
- 18:22who would we get other than that breast guy,
- 18:25you know, like we had backup quarterbacks that
- 18:27have come in and to not perform. They performed
- 18:30for a little bit while they could, but then at
- 18:32the same time, I mean, a lot of the stuff, the
- 18:35issues with the Cowboys over the last several
- 18:37years hasn't been necessarily Dak's fault. He's
- 18:40done some things that is definitely negative
- 18:43things that haven't helped us, but at the same
- 18:45time, he's definitely done a lot of good stuff.
- 18:50And for him, he's definitely not the problem
- 18:52for our season and our record right now. I know
- 18:54that much. I blame Jerry Jones to the end of
- 18:59time on that. Got it. All right, Ken, I'm going
- 19:03to move out of the way. I'm going to actually
- 19:05move these tables and chairs out of the way,
- 19:07too. Whatever Cowboys information you have, you
- 19:10go ahead. I'm going to step aside. Floor is yours.
- 19:14No, I just want to point out, in an earlier episode,
- 19:16we talked about Cowboys. And again, we're Eagle
- 19:19fans. So Ivory is one of those guys we talked
- 19:22about. you meet these people they're so nice
- 19:25they're such good people and they're cowboy fans
- 19:27so you are in that category yeah we don't hold
- 19:32it against you glad to have lunch and and that's
- 19:35a lot about you know this this episode too as
- 19:37you said eagles cowboys you know play this sunday
- 19:41but before that we'll get into that i'll talk
- 19:44about dac dac does perform like It doesn't matter
- 19:47who wears the star. I'm going to be against them.
- 19:51But Dak does perform. He does put up numbers.
- 19:53And like this year, the offense is great, but
- 19:55the defense is not. And like you said, quarterbacks
- 19:59always get the blame, even when they win. Just
- 20:02ask the Eagles. Even when they win, quarterback
- 20:05gets the blame for everything. Why are you not
- 20:10doing this? Why are you not doing that? And then
- 20:12of course, when you lose or it doesn't go your
- 20:14way, it's the same thing. But, but not at the
- 20:18end of the day, Dak has been a good quarterback.
- 20:20And that's really all I got. I mean, you know,
- 20:23well, yeah, well, and not only that, and I've
- 20:24always liked that, um, even as an ego, so I just,
- 20:27I liked them as a player and a lot of people,
- 20:30I know we talk about, you know, last, you know,
- 20:3230 years or whatever, but people forget like
- 20:35hit Dak wasn't supposed to be what he was came
- 20:39in, took Tony Rommel's job. Played well outplayed
- 20:43him to take his job and send him into retirement
- 20:45into the booth came back, you know Middle -of
- 20:49-the -road quarterback, but improved then broke
- 20:51his leg and came back and was still great So
- 20:55like he's had a hell of a journey and I mean
- 20:58he still got some years left on him It's gonna
- 21:01be hard if you guys get another quarterback to
- 21:03replace what that is I mean you see there's teams
- 21:06all over the NFL me you see what's happening
- 21:09with the Browns is they've had how many started
- 21:12quarterbacks in the last 30 years, it's like
- 21:1424 or something. It's crazy and unbelievable,
- 21:16unbelievable number, right? So, you know, you
- 21:19guys have a quarterback that can do it. And I
- 21:22agree with you, Ivory. I blame Jerry Jones as
- 21:25well. But, you know, he's an older owner in his
- 21:29latter years. He's doing whatever he thinks he
- 21:31can to win. I just think he's in his own way.
- 21:35Yeah, 100 percent. And like I brought up earlier
- 21:37about. Al Davis passing away, then the Raiders
- 21:40got good for a couple of years. I don't want
- 21:41Jerry Jones to die, but at the same time, death
- 21:45is inevitable. Yes, it is. It's tough because
- 21:51there's, of course, from the outside perspective,
- 21:55Monday morning quarterbacking, pun intended,
- 21:57it's a lot easier to be able to say what they
- 22:00should and shouldn't do. But at the same time,
- 22:03I know it's a tough job. Don't get me wrong.
- 22:05But at the same time, like Kent already alluded
- 22:07to, it's been 30 years, man. Like what gives?
- 22:14Like get out of the way. Wait, wait, wait a minute.
- 22:16I thought we were about to hear him curse. Did
- 22:17you hear it, Kent? He almost let it slip. He
- 22:20almost let it slip. It's funny because I tried
- 22:22not to. Cuss on my podcast. I cuss every day,
- 22:26all day, all the time. But I was like, I try
- 22:29not to on my podcast so I can have people listening
- 22:31in their cars with their kids and stuff. And
- 22:33it won't be anything too big of an issue. But
- 22:36yes, I was very close. Very, very close. That's
- 22:39all right. You didn't have to curse, man. We
- 22:41knew what you meant. I could feel it. I'm glad
- 22:43we're not on FaceTime video right now. Wanted
- 22:55to ask you do do you is the are the Eagles like
- 22:58your top rival? For being a cowboy fan man. That's
- 23:03a great question. Honestly, they are definitely
- 23:06top I say top two Okay, I say top two but also
- 23:12would you put in there? Unfortunately, I get
- 23:15this point. I of course so y 'all let me start
- 23:18back with some history Steelers 49ers, of course
- 23:22like That rivalry right there is huge for me.
- 23:25Like every time they play, that's just the old
- 23:27school. I know that it's a big game. We don't
- 23:30get to play them all the time, but it's history
- 23:33there. So that's always a big thing for me. But
- 23:35unfortunately, I don't even want to say it because
- 23:37you have to have, be competitive to do it. But
- 23:39they beat us this year as the Panthers, you know?
- 23:42And I say that and I only say that is simply
- 23:45because living here in Carolina. If we didn't
- 23:49live here, it wouldn't even be a thing. You know
- 23:50what I'm saying? But having to deal with these
- 23:52Panthers fans all the time, like every single
- 23:56thing, like they win a game and the Cowboys lose
- 23:59and they could have one win on their season and
- 24:02you have to hear all of it. And it's just like,
- 24:06in the last, so the last three years too, which
- 24:08is crazy to me, that Cowboys have come to Panthers
- 24:11stadium and played. Like I have no idea why.
- 24:15Like, typically, like, you might get two good
- 24:18years out of that. Three, this is the third year
- 24:20in a row that the Cowboys have come to Charlotte
- 24:23to play. And I didn't even go this year. Like,
- 24:26I went the past two years, but I'm just like,
- 24:28why do they keep coming here? Like, I would love
- 24:30to travel to Dallas and watch them play. But
- 24:35here we are. Wow. So you know what, man, if you
- 24:38would have given, if I would have had to guess,
- 24:40you could have given me 10 guesses. I would have
- 24:42never. thought that you would have said the Panthers.
- 24:45It makes all the sense in the world because your
- 24:48Cowboys lose and you got to walk around the city
- 24:51wearing that L. Yes, like crazy, like for years,
- 24:55like until we play again. And of course they
- 24:59lose the third time. They probably won't play
- 25:02for another five years now. And so just having
- 25:05that and like, no, there's like people Charlotte.
- 25:08the carolina panthers fans they talk so much
- 25:11junk all the time so unfortunately it is a created
- 25:16rivalry by the panthers fans and so i'll give
- 25:22them that yeah and i wonder yeah i wonder and
- 25:24i wonder if that started you know back when the
- 25:26panthers beat dallas in the playoffs way back
- 25:28i don't know because of course like i was a little
- 25:33kid then but at the same time like people do
- 25:35bring it up of course every once in a while but
- 25:37that doesn't bother me and you know like going
- 25:40forward and everything like i really didn't i
- 25:42think honestly i think it was that that doggone
- 25:46game that we played the panthers on thanksgiving
- 25:49a few years ago yeah when they completely dominated
- 25:53Like luke keakley had like two touchdowns itself.
- 25:56It was so bad. Yeah cam and keakley went off.
- 25:59Yeah, I remember yeah Yeah, it was like an interception
- 26:02like pick six like the first like play the game
- 26:05or something It was just terrible. I think it's
- 26:08been like downhill from then but um just losing
- 26:11this year just made everything worse Okay, but
- 26:14I digress So so the cowboys obviously play as
- 26:18this as of this recording they played a night
- 26:20against the raiders And like I said, the Eagles
- 26:23Cowboys play this Sunday big game no matter when
- 26:26they play. Is it anything that's going to stand
- 26:29out for this game? I'd say stand out wise if
- 26:33it's going to be competitive, because I mean,
- 26:36like let's call it for what it is. The Eagles
- 26:38are a better team than the Cowboys this year,
- 26:41but it's one of those things where I don't know.
- 26:44I mean, the defense is going to we get overshown
- 26:49back tonight. He hadn't played in almost a year.
- 26:54And so that's going to be super beneficial to
- 26:57our defense and staying healthy. But the Cowboys
- 27:01can keep up without a doubt on offense, but defense
- 27:04wins ball games, you know? Well, there's not
- 27:07much to keep up with the Eagles offense right
- 27:09now, but that's what I was going to bring up
- 27:13that I expect a close game only because like
- 27:16you said, It's at Dallas, so the offense is always
- 27:20clicking at home for Dallas. The Eagles offense
- 27:23right now, not really clicking for whatever reason.
- 27:26Their defense is playing Sean Glass. Something.
- 27:30I don't know what it is. Maybe, like I said,
- 27:33new, we talk about it, new OC. I don't know what's
- 27:36going on, but that offense is hard to watch,
- 27:37but I'll take the wins every day of the week.
- 27:40But again, it will be an interesting matchup.
- 27:42I mean, just obvious. We're fans of the both
- 27:45teams, but. If you're just looking from the outside
- 27:48in, I mean, you're still like, like you said,
- 27:50strong, strong offense against a weak offense,
- 27:52like right now, a weak offense in Philly. But
- 27:56then Dallas's defense is weak and Philly's defense
- 27:59is finally playing once they made those moves
- 28:01to get guys like Jayden Phillips, Nolan Smith
- 28:04came back from injury. So they're playing really
- 28:06well. So it's going to be, I think it's going
- 28:07to be a close game as you know, normal divisional
- 28:10games go. That's what I expect. What about you
- 28:16log off? So I'm just going to, I'll be the contrarian
- 28:20and this isn't by design, but this is, I know
- 28:24how games go in this division. I've been watching
- 28:28the NFC East my entire life. These are the most
- 28:31unpredictable games. When you think it's going
- 28:33to go one way, it typically shifts and goes the
- 28:36other. I wouldn't be surprised if Dak puts up
- 28:39400 yards. He scores four or five touchdowns
- 28:42and they blow the Eagles out. wouldn't shock
- 28:44me at all. Um, so I do think the game would be
- 28:48competitive, but the, and I think it's safe to
- 28:52say, and this is not even trying to be an insult,
- 28:54you know, to the Cowboys or any, or you, ivory
- 28:56as a Cowboy fan, you probably heard it all already
- 29:04this year, but you're good. No, no, no offense
- 29:07taken. I'm, I'm the one thing I'm the one thing
- 29:12I'm confident in. is that they know that they
- 29:16don't have a ton to play for. This is their moment
- 29:20to just, here you go everybody, eat it. We're
- 29:24just gonna play the spoiler and we're gonna get
- 29:27all the highlights and Jerry can go after the
- 29:29game and do his round huddle press conference
- 29:34talking to the media. This is a moment for them
- 29:36to just have a statement game in the middle of
- 29:39a season that isn't gonna have like a fruitful
- 29:41playoff run. this is the types of games that
- 29:44they get up for. And I'm telling you, I wouldn't
- 29:46be surprised if they wouldn't buy double digits.
- 29:48And so that's the thing with like being a Cowboys
- 29:51fan. I could also see the other side of that
- 29:53as well to where like we sometimes don't perform
- 29:57well at home. We had, we've had probably one
- 30:00more away games than we have home games overall
- 30:02since the stadium was actually built. And I mean
- 30:05with Dallas also, I mean, I don't know. It's
- 30:09just tough when it comes to that, because I feel
- 30:10like everybody plays their absolute best against
- 30:13Dallas every time. I feel like we've had like
- 30:17probably four blowout games that I could even
- 30:19recall in the last decade. But at the same time,
- 30:22I mean, I could definitely see what you're saying.
- 30:24It's just like, let's just, whatever. It's just
- 30:25like, let's go hammer them, you know? Yeah, put
- 30:28it all out, lay it all out on the line. We've
- 30:30got nothing to lose, guys. Let's go see if we
- 30:34can try to ruin the Eagle season. Oh, absolutely,
- 30:38yeah. I mean, that would be huge. That would
- 30:40not shock me at all. Yeah, Dallas will be playing.
- 30:43I think they'll be playing for, they'll be still
- 30:46battling for that playoff spot because I think
- 30:48they beat the Raiders tonight. And then again,
- 30:50that's a big game for Dallas. It's going to be
- 30:51a bigger game for Dallas, but it's going to be
- 30:54a big game either way, so. Right, yeah. Yeah,
- 30:57for sure. Because, I mean, you know, Stephen
- 30:58A. Smith is going to be talking about it regardless.
- 31:01Yelling about it to somebody. Always wearing
- 31:04his cap. Yeah, with that hat on. With that Cam
- 31:08Newton hat on. That yarmulke. Oh, man. I call
- 31:13his hairline a yarmulke anyways because it sits
- 31:15so far back. Yeah, it is. Oh, man. Alright, so
- 31:33we're gonna shift to something different still
- 31:36keeping up with a rivalry as we talked about
- 31:38the Eagles Cowboys rivalry and Other rivalries
- 31:42with the Cowboys Let's just go across all sports
- 31:46here What's what's y 'all's favorite? Or ivory
- 31:51what's yours first like what's your favorite
- 31:53rivalry outside of? Anything with the Cowboys
- 31:57Carolina Duke all day. Yeah all day. Yep All
- 32:00day. Yeah. I mean, being, you know, being from
- 32:02North Carolina, I mean, it's, that's definitely,
- 32:05I mean, that's my number one rivalry period,
- 32:08you know, point blank. It's a Tar Heels all day
- 32:11for me, but like rival, rival wise, definitely.
- 32:14Especially we took out, I always say we took
- 32:16out the shredder, but we took out Coach K. You
- 32:22know, I'm a Duke fan, so yeah, that hurts. Oh,
- 32:25I know. I know. Log off like it's Carolina, too.
- 32:30We used to argue. I think that's the one thing
- 32:32we didn't agree on. Yeah. Yeah, you know, and
- 32:37that's the thing. I mean, I've been in the Charlotte
- 32:40area about 19 years now, almost two decades.
- 32:44And it was one of those things where I didn't
- 32:48understand the culture of Carolina Duke. And
- 32:50I had someone, it was a true... morning soap
- 32:56opera moment where they sat me down and said,
- 32:58listen, young man, you have to understand that
- 33:01you have to pick a side in this. You can't be
- 33:03neutral. You have to be either UNC or Duke. You
- 33:07gotta pick one. And I was getting pressure from
- 33:12the Duke side. He was like, you know what? I
- 33:15mean, Jordan did, you know, he was a Tar Heel.
- 33:19Like I can make that about you know, my basketball
- 33:25fan, it was like, you know what? Fine. I'll take
- 33:26Carolina. I had to pick a side, you know, and,
- 33:30you know, personally, I think they have the prettier
- 33:31color blue. Yes, absolutely. Absolutely. Maybe
- 33:36they got a, they got a great blue. Um, that's
- 33:39a all time rival, um, sports rivalry. My, my
- 33:44favorite rivalry in all of sports. And you had
- 33:47a really good one, um, Ivory, when you said,
- 33:49uh, Steelers 49ers just old school. gridiron
- 33:54you know uh cutthroat football professional football
- 33:58yeah but for me for me my version of that is
- 34:03Steelers Ravens ah okay i can see that yeah oh
- 34:08yeah and it's more because early 2000s are yes
- 34:13the Steelers are the old historic guard And the
- 34:18Ravens were the new flashy, super energetic franchise,
- 34:23you know, in, in a, in a city that's, that's
- 34:26really gritty, hard -nosed like Baltimore. And,
- 34:31and I've always, and those games are always competitive.
- 34:34You know, the teams are terrible. It doesn't
- 34:35matter. They always, it's always a great showing
- 34:38to watch those teams play. And they've always
- 34:41had, you know, good coaching. They've always
- 34:42had good quarterbacks. They've always had good
- 34:44defenses. Fantastic fans that travel well and
- 34:50it just always holds up as a Rivalry game that
- 34:54you can watch any year and it always seems to
- 34:57deliver whether in Pittsburgh or in Baltimore
- 34:59So I'm gonna take Raven Steelers No, I mean I
- 35:02can see that for sure because there was a once
- 35:04upon a time where I'd rather watch that game
- 35:07than somebody Maybe the Cowboys was playing,
- 35:09you know when you watch your own team, it's phenomenal
- 35:11You look at it differently than watching other
- 35:14teams. However, when you get to that, that Ray
- 35:18Lewis, you know, versus Ben Roberts burger. And
- 35:21you got the Troy Palamalu and Troy, you know,
- 35:25like, uh, like it's crazy, man. It's just, uh,
- 35:29that, like the defenses were something I look
- 35:33forward to more than even the offenses. And that's
- 35:35coming from an offensive perspective type of
- 35:38person, regardless of what sport it is, like
- 35:40those defenses, you know, uh, Ed Reed, man, it
- 35:44was just stupid. Yeah, no, that's a great point.
- 35:48That's a great point for sure Awesome. All right
- 35:51Kent. You're up man. What you got? Yeah, so first
- 35:53I'm gonna agree Duke Carolina is the number one
- 35:56rivalry, right? I also believe college sports
- 35:59Rivalries are better than the pros overall whether
- 36:03it's The fans the atmosphere I mean you go to
- 36:11school, you know, there's like a lot more I think
- 36:13tied into it So there's a culture culture like
- 36:17say you go. Yeah, you went there alum, whatever
- 36:19Yeah, I think it's just just like high school
- 36:22back in the day not exactly off But you know
- 36:24like just because you know, you know, the fans
- 36:27know the players the players know the fans and
- 36:30You're a town over and like that stuff right
- 36:32there like going to college where it's like Expanded
- 36:36exponentially. It's just like that's it. No,
- 36:38so I agree completely with that Yeah, and I've
- 36:41noticed in other sports, and I'll tell you mine
- 36:42in a minute, but in other sports like baseball,
- 36:45like Yankees, Red Sox played in the playoffs.
- 36:47I don't think anybody really cared. No, it's
- 36:51changed. Like in the last, yeah, in the last
- 36:5320 years, I think it's kind of, I don't know
- 36:55why, but like that rivalries died down, but that
- 36:57that's another historic Lakers Celtics. Uh, back
- 37:01was, was huge bulls, pistons, bulls. I mean,
- 37:05all the, anybody, the bulls played, but right.
- 37:08You know what I mean? Yeah, anybody. So, but
- 37:12yes, I definitely think college over pro. I think
- 37:16mine is still because I'm such a talk about it's
- 37:20because I'm such a diehard Eagles fan. It is
- 37:24the Cowboys. Like I treat that game like the
- 37:26Superbowl. Yeah, I get it. I mean, I get that.
- 37:29There's video. There's video. If you search on
- 37:31social media. So log off against again, you won't
- 37:34see it. It was like a few years ago. It was a
- 37:38few years ago and it was Christmas Eve when the
- 37:40Cowboys Eagles played and Eagles had Gardner
- 37:42Minshew as their quarterback because Hertz was
- 37:45out. And I remember Dallas converting like it
- 37:51was like a third and forever. And I jumped up,
- 37:55yelled, cursed, and scared my mom a half to death
- 37:58on the couch. And then my wife's like saying
- 38:01like, well, you can't act like that in front
- 38:03of everybody. It's Christmas. I was like, no,
- 38:05yes, I can. I don't change for the Philadelphia
- 38:10Eagles. Everybody gets a warning that if you're
- 38:16in the house, at my house, or I'm at your house,
- 38:18and we're watching the Eagles. Okay, who they're
- 38:21playing but Eagles Cowboys, especially yeah,
- 38:23it's gonna get a little testy, but that's my
- 38:25bit That's my biggest one. But definitely think
- 38:28yeah Duke Carolina and college over probe No,
- 38:32I get that for sure cuz like watching and the
- 38:34biggest thing for me, of course, you've probably
- 38:36had this feeling as well Yes, that Eagles Cowboys
- 38:40rivalry is amazing and I'm not trying to take
- 38:43any weight thing away from it It's just I have
- 38:45to have the Cowboys being good playing the Eagles
- 38:50because they're so disappointed when they're
- 38:52not. Yeah that does that does make sense but
- 38:55yeah but if they would win well like like I said
- 38:57I'm telling you they got they have they have
- 39:00a better shot than you think I could be horribly
- 39:03wrong on this and and I'm and I I can I can hear
- 39:06you right now can't you biting your bottom lip
- 39:07right now I hear it oh I just oh no I'm just
- 39:10thinking about yeah I believe you because I watched
- 39:12them lose to the New York Giants. Well now so
- 39:15I have some great motivation too and you guys
- 39:17do too So for the next episode and my next episode
- 39:22when I'm by myself on the show, I will be mentioning
- 39:25if we do We'll see we'll see we'll see how it
- 39:30goes man, right? We'll see we'll see we'll see
- 39:32what the football gods have in store for amen.
- 39:35Amen the fallout next week Just just you know
- 39:39feel for log off because he's gonna have to deal
- 39:40with me some way or the other Right. It's all
- 39:46right. I'm ready. I'm used to it. All right.
- 39:56So we're going to shift to the next topic. It's
- 39:58a fun, random topic, sort of. I'm going to talk
- 40:02about favorite sports athlete and why. And when
- 40:05we posed this question, it's not so much. Like
- 40:09your favorite athlete on the court on the field.
- 40:11It could be off the court off the field. So So
- 40:15who do you have ivory so I have I'll pick one
- 40:20of them, but I have like four That are my top
- 40:25and so i'll i'll give you my four and then i'll
- 40:28say number one Okay, so we got tiger woods We
- 40:33got kobe brunt We got deon sanders and we got
- 40:39Michael Jordan. And so if I had to choose, my
- 40:44number one's gonna be Deion Sanders. Athlete
- 40:49of all time, played for the Cowboys and also
- 40:53the respect that I've even earned for him outside
- 40:57of football from coaching his sons, being a family
- 40:59man. I'm a big family guy and just him also.
- 41:04taking it to the baseball field with Atlanta
- 41:06Braves and being so phenomenal. The speed that
- 41:10he has when he was at Florida State, I mean,
- 41:13just overall his career as an athlete, a freak
- 41:18athlete was just phenomenal, you know? And so
- 41:21I gotta say that's my number one, even though
- 41:26my overall number one would be like... Michael
- 41:29Jordan when it comes to like sports and way I
- 41:31grew up as far as basketball goes, because that
- 41:34was literally all I knew. Ball was literally
- 41:37life when it came to me growing up playing basketball.
- 41:41You know, but like overall, I would definitely
- 41:44say Deion Sanders just because of that. And Kobe
- 41:47Bryant, you know, shout out Kobe, his mentality
- 41:51is something that I had before. I was even a
- 41:55huge Kobe fan because growing up. I wasn't a
- 41:58massive Kobe fan. I was one of those people like,
- 42:01oh, he's just trying to be like Michael Jordan,
- 42:02you know? I felt the same way, man. I know exactly
- 42:06what you mean. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. And then
- 42:08I found a respect for him later on, like in my,
- 42:12I guess early twenties. And I just started liking
- 42:16him even more because it was literally like mama
- 42:19mentality was created. I'm just like kill or
- 42:21be killed. Like that was his instinct. Like I'm
- 42:25arriving early. I'm like, why would I pass you
- 42:28the ball? I saw you at practice, you know, like
- 42:31I'm not going to pass you the ball for that,
- 42:32you know? And so like, that's just my thing with
- 42:35Kobe. His mentality is phenomenal. And Tiger,
- 42:39I'm obsessed with golf, you know? And so that's
- 42:42a huge thing for me. And the reason why I even
- 42:44paid attention to golf, started playing golf
- 42:46was because of Tiger Woods. And so like golf
- 42:48is my new obsession. It's literally an obsession.
- 42:53And so that's all I know. And so I'm like, he
- 42:55has to be up there. I mean, I got everybody except
- 42:58for Dion currently tatted on me right now. And
- 43:02so like Dion was next in line to have like a
- 43:06picture of him in a cowboy's jersey and a cowboy
- 43:09hat with like his big shades on from like Colorado
- 43:13coaching football. So that's my next tattoo.
- 43:17What about his music? What about Dion's music
- 43:19career? How do you feel about that? Hey, I love
- 43:22it. With the big gold chains and everything.
- 43:25Absolutely. Must be the money. It's a whole vibe.
- 43:28Must be the money. A whole vibe, man. Yeah. That's
- 43:33right. I love Dion when it comes to somebody
- 43:36being so well -rounded to try things like that.
- 43:40That's why I'm a big Jamie Foxx guy or a big
- 43:43Eddie Murphy guy because they can act, they can
- 43:46do comedy, they can sing. Jamie's phenomenal
- 43:49when it comes to singing, but he can do all of
- 43:51the above. I just like well -rounded people and
- 43:54that's why I chose Dion as the number one. Got
- 43:57you. Can't go wrong with any of those. Nice.
- 43:59Yeah, not a good pick. Kent, you go. I'll close
- 44:03out with mine. No, I want you to go. No. No,
- 44:06no, no, no, no. You go. You go. No, no, no, because
- 44:09I think mine's going to be respected, but I don't
- 44:14think you guys will see mine coming. There's
- 44:16no one that's been mentioned thus far. So yeah,
- 44:19go ahead. Go ahead and lead us off. Let me just
- 44:21go through my, like you said, little back story
- 44:24for everything, and then I'll give you my. I'm
- 44:26going to go a different direction, though. Baseball
- 44:29wise growing up my favorite player was Jose Kinseko
- 44:33Then he let me down Basketball, I mean again,
- 44:38we talked about this Hornets fan. I think we
- 44:41acknowledge that Baron Davis was my all -time
- 44:43Hornet, but it's really tough Yeah, but it was
- 44:48huge. That was a good time for the Hornets, too.
- 44:51Absolutely. Yeah, football. I mean, Eagles, obviously.
- 44:55McNabb is probably my favorite. And we've talked
- 44:57about this before. Cunningham was the reason,
- 44:59though. Randall Cunningham was a reason to be
- 45:01an Eagles fan. Oh, yeah. But McNabb was definitely
- 45:04my favorite. But I'm going to go off the court.
- 45:08Because like you say, as I said, your heroes,
- 45:11your idols, they let you down. One guy that doesn't
- 45:14let you down. And not to say that I was a huge
- 45:16fan of his when he played in college. I supported
- 45:19him in the pros. I even watched him go play baseball
- 45:22one time. Actually a couple times. There's nobody,
- 45:27I don't think there's anybody that I could respect
- 45:29more than Tim Tebow. Love Tim. Wow. Love Tim.
- 45:33Okay. Yeah, I love Tim. And I'm going off the
- 45:36court, you know what I mean? And again, and I
- 45:38didn't mention Tim Duncan with the Spurs. My
- 45:41bad, I forgot about him. But yeah, Tim Tebow
- 45:42is probably my favorite athlete off the court.
- 45:46Again, all that he does, anytime he speaks, again,
- 45:51obviously a Christian talks about God. But again,
- 45:54he has, you know, he's got really good perspective,
- 45:57really good thoughts, really good takes on a
- 45:58lot of stuff. Outside sports life and again,
- 46:02I don't again. I've yet to find a flaw in the
- 46:04dude. So Yeah, no, I loved him too. But I was
- 46:08a like a Gators fan growing up watching college
- 46:11football because you know, I was a Cowboys fan
- 46:14And so I found out when I was young that Emma
- 46:16Smith went to Florida. Yeah, so literally just
- 46:19stuck with the Gators. And then I'd still pull
- 46:22for them, but I don't watch them as much as I
- 46:24used to, of course, when Tim Tebow was there,
- 46:26you know, and like no one growing up with Brandon
- 46:29spikes, knowing him personally, I paid attention
- 46:31like crazy back in the early two, well, I guess
- 46:34mid 2000s, whenever I lived in California, when
- 46:37that's when that was running it up. Okay. No,
- 46:41yeah. Tebow Tebow's a good one, man. I've, I
- 46:44didn't see that one coming. I know that. So you're
- 46:48not going to see mine coming either. And mine
- 46:51is easily my favorite athlete of all time. Great
- 46:58player in college, good enough clearly to go
- 47:02into the NBA. Had a fantastic NBA career, but
- 47:07was never able to make it over the hump. But
- 47:10the main reason why I've always loved and respected
- 47:13this player and this athlete and this personality
- 47:16is because they were always authentically them.
- 47:22It was never a question about whether or not
- 47:25you were going to get the real version of this
- 47:29human being. And I'm going to do we get, do we
- 47:31get the guess? Go. I was just based off of that
- 47:36after you say we would never be able to find
- 47:38out I was like can we at least guess Go know
- 47:41what you got. No, it's not gonna be right, but
- 47:44I'm gonna go Allen Iverson not bad Not a bad
- 47:48not a bad guess, but that's not my pick. All
- 47:51right No, can't you go what you got can't I don't
- 47:54have a guess I have no idea Cuz like I said,
- 47:58you're not a fan of a team. So I'm not I am NOT
- 48:01and and I will say that I was a fan Like growing
- 48:05up like watching them play And it's gonna make
- 48:08all the sense in the world, but it's one mr.
- 48:11Sir Charles Barkley Charles Barkley nice To this
- 48:16day on television terrible terrible terrible
- 48:20when you hear Charles Barkley talk You are getting
- 48:23how his his real true feelings on any subject
- 48:27matter 1000 % is authentically him I know where
- 48:31Leeds, Alabama is on a map because of that man.
- 48:35So he's super supportive of where he's from and
- 48:37the people of his community back in Alabama.
- 48:42And I've followed his entire career from Phoenix,
- 48:45Houston days, all that stuff. But I've always
- 48:48loved him and his personality has always been
- 48:50intoxicating. And anyone who's kind of met him
- 48:53just kind of on the street. They always have
- 48:56these heartwarming stories about, hey man, Charles
- 48:58Barkley paid for me to fix my car. We were out
- 49:01at the dinner and Charles Barkley just picked
- 49:03up our tab. Just little things like that and
- 49:05he never wants credit for it, but there's a lot
- 49:08of mystery and things around him. that's been
- 49:11following him for decades. So yeah, my favorite,
- 49:15I gotta go with Mr. Barkley. I'm a huge Charles
- 49:17Barkley fan. So I love that answer. And fun fact,
- 49:22it's not about Charles Barkley, but I got to
- 49:24meet Ernie Johnson. Nice. Nice. Yeah. At a golf
- 49:28tournament here in Charlotte a few years ago,
- 49:31it was actually on his birthday and I did not
- 49:33know that until that night. That night. I did
- 49:38not know it until that night. Cause cool story
- 49:40about Ernie Johnson and sorry to hijack the story.
- 49:43I got no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. With Ernie
- 49:46Johnson. Like, so me and my wife was at the golf
- 49:49tournament in Charlotte. He's driving by on his
- 49:53self on a golf cart driving around, you know,
- 49:55and I'm just like, Oh snap. That's Ernie Johnson.
- 49:58Like Ernie. And he literally like turns the golf
- 50:03cart around, comes back, hops off, gets out,
- 50:09shakes my hand, puts his hand out to shake my
- 50:11hand, introduces himself. And we start talking
- 50:14for like five whole minutes. Just about any and
- 50:19everything and then I got a picture with him
- 50:22and He's I did not know it was his birthday and
- 50:25like then he drove off and found out later that
- 50:27night But it was such an amazing interaction.
- 50:30And so I know like between Charles Barkley and
- 50:33Ernie Johnson. They have their podcast and I
- 50:36love the episode so far that they've had. They
- 50:38don't do enough of them, but I absolutely love
- 50:41listening to them. And so Charles Barkley, I
- 50:43got to learn so much about him over the last
- 50:45probably two years just by listening to him talk
- 50:49a little bit more as a guest on podcast and on
- 50:51him and Ernie Johnson's show. And it's just really
- 50:54cool. It's a phenomenal answer. I love Charles,
- 50:56Charles Barkley. Yeah, yeah the of the steam
- 51:00room podcast. Yes. Yeah, we're Ernie and Charles.
- 51:03Yeah, it's a good It's a good it's a really good
- 51:05listen and you're right. They don't have enough
- 51:07episode. I don't do it enough Yeah, hopefully
- 51:09with the NBA season being geared up and them
- 51:11being in the same vicinity. Hopefully they make
- 51:13more episodes I hope so. Yeah for sure But yeah,
- 51:16I mean between Tim tubo and Charles Barkley.
- 51:19I mean, I love both of those. I mean, that's
- 51:21great. That's awesome and now we're having fun
- 51:28all right we're gonna go to to our last topic
- 51:32of the episode it's a bonus topic since we have
- 51:35ivory with us we're just gonna do favorite local
- 51:39athlete since we are all in here locally in the
- 51:42charlotte area and uh we put on there you know
- 51:45you could be born and raised or just someone
- 51:48who played locally here for hornets panthers
- 51:51knights checkers is on here i don't know anybody
- 51:53ever played for the checkers but by the way you
- 51:58put hold on by the way you put checkers on there
- 52:00i would have never put checkers on i don't think
- 52:02i did but uh so but it could be anything anybody
- 52:06it could be someone who is from the area and
- 52:09made it or you know anybody so i just want to
- 52:12make that clear so ivory what do you have So
- 52:17I feel like I might have to say my first answer
- 52:20and then go to you guys and then give another
- 52:22answer because the first person I have to state
- 52:26I state because they are my top three favorite
- 52:31NBA player of all time and is Steph Curry and
- 52:37I say Steph Curry because I grew up playing with
- 52:41and against Steph Curry, so His birthday is four
- 52:45days before mine. We're the same age. We grew
- 52:47up playing AAU basketball against each other
- 52:50majority of the time. And I got his dad's autograph
- 52:54probably 10 times. I don't know where any of
- 52:56the autographs are because he would come to the
- 52:59games, of course. And so I'm not sure. Kent,
- 53:04you're familiar with what Holy Angels is right
- 53:08now. It used to be the YMCA back in the day.
- 53:11And so Steph's team, the Charlotte Stars used
- 53:15to come play against us, the East Gaston Sharks,
- 53:19like almost every other weekend, once a month
- 53:22or whatever, they would come over there for AAU
- 53:24tournaments. And so that's where I would get
- 53:26his dad's autograph all the time, just to have
- 53:28it, I guess. But yeah, so I played against him
- 53:31from probably the age of like nine years old
- 53:34to probably, well, it was till we were 18 years
- 53:37old. And so like just playing against him and...
- 53:41He was nothing compared to what he is now like
- 53:44and that's no disrespect to him Of course, but
- 53:48and he knows that he wasn't anywhere close to
- 53:51what he was or what he is now and so watching
- 53:53him turn into that and knowing him and his game
- 53:58and it's just been such a Honor to actually watch,
- 54:03you know And so being able to see that happen
- 54:06and where he came from and where he started from.
- 54:09And even though, of course, his dad, people might
- 54:11write it off and say his dad was in the league.
- 54:12I get that for sure. But at the same time, he
- 54:15earned where he is. You know, I mean, outside
- 54:17of genetics and like everything, he literally
- 54:20earned where he is today because he wasn't that
- 54:23guy when it came to like playing against me and
- 54:26everything growing up. So he's definitely got
- 54:30to be my favorite local. OK, yeah, that's pretty
- 54:33cool. I had no idea you played again. That's
- 54:36awesome. Oh, yeah. That is a story you should
- 54:38tell every day. Awesome. Yeah. And I will say
- 54:41this, and I'll have to save this story for another
- 54:43day. I have literally been in Del Curry's home.
- 54:48I was wondering if you were going to tell this.
- 54:50No kidding. I would have to save it for another
- 54:53episode. I've actually been in, I've been in
- 54:56Stephen Curry's bedroom. True story. Hand on
- 55:03a Bible. Yes, that's a real thing that's happening.
- 55:07I believe it, because why would anybody say that
- 55:09they've been in Stephen Curry's bedroom? It's
- 55:13a very interesting, highly intoxicated story.
- 55:19And I don't drink anymore. Kit, do you want to
- 55:24go or you want me to go? I'll go. Obviously Steph
- 55:27Curry would been up there like you said from
- 55:30the area and he's obviously a huge star and You
- 55:34know watching him at Davidson and then now with
- 55:36the Warriors It's just cool to see him obviously
- 55:39the connection to the Hornets as well because
- 55:41of Dale But but I won't that's not that won't
- 55:45be my pick It's the guy that I when he played
- 55:48log off noses. I would defend him to my dying
- 55:53day And that's Cam Newton. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
- 55:59Is it Cameron Jarrell Newton? The arguments and
- 56:03the defense I had to put up for this man to prove
- 56:08that he was the best quarterback, best player
- 56:11in Carolina Panther history. Every day, all the
- 56:15time, still do it to this day. Like I said, I
- 56:20had to defend him and I think he was just unbelievable.
- 56:24Greatest athlete to play here for a Charlotte
- 56:27franchise. I Put them above everybody and anybody
- 56:31ever played for the Panthers Hornets Only MVP
- 56:35in professional sports that's been through here
- 56:38playing for these teams and Then like you said,
- 56:42you know, if you do log on there's a story obviously
- 56:45my kids we met we used to go to the Panther practices
- 56:49Got the twice got pictures with cam And the one
- 56:54time he was kind of told to stop and take a picture.
- 56:58The next time he literally we got there early
- 57:02and I'm gonna make this short and sweet, but
- 57:04I have to tell it because you know. But we got
- 57:07there early to the practice and this is like
- 57:1010 years ago. And then all of a sudden they go
- 57:15the players walk down the sidewalk they go in
- 57:18and then people start showing up later and later
- 57:20and later and later. So we're standing like right
- 57:22in front of the gate when they come out and then
- 57:26you know people are like crowding us right so
- 57:29then when cam is coming out then it's everybody's
- 57:32reaching and grabbing and wanting you know his
- 57:34attention I guess he remembered that we were
- 57:38there first and he literally like like he said
- 57:40if I if you could see me he literally parted
- 57:43the sea he told everybody to back up and move
- 57:46out of the way and he pointed to my son Kingston
- 57:48and he went straight to him Took the pick grabbed
- 57:52a football signed it Daughter was in the picture
- 57:56too because we had to bring we tagged she had
- 57:59to tag along with us that day but yeah, but That
- 58:05was cool. Not only because that that just made
- 58:07me you know like him more I just always thought
- 58:09he got a bad rap to that you know he was doing
- 58:12so much in the community and Everybody was judging
- 58:15him bait all this other stuff, and he was you
- 58:18know he's different for sure As you see him on
- 58:21TV, but as a football player and I think as a
- 58:24person, like I said, within the community, you
- 58:26know, here in Charlotte, he was obviously really,
- 58:28really good and did great things. And he's my
- 58:31number one guy and as a local athlete who played
- 58:35here. Awesome. No, no, that's nice, man. And
- 58:39by the way, that picture, when he was looking
- 58:40away with Kingston, it's hilarious. It still
- 58:42makes me laugh. Like, I remember, I don't have
- 58:46that picture, but I remember it, where his head's
- 58:49turned. It's a funny picture. And then also,
- 58:51once we got the good picture, remember how I
- 58:54cropped out that other little boy that was just
- 58:55looking in jealousy? Yeah. You had to get another
- 58:59kid out of there. Had to get him out of the picture.
- 59:02Well, the cam had already parted. But yeah, cool
- 59:04story. But anyways. Nah, I like Cam. I agree
- 59:07with you completely on that. He is the greatest
- 59:11Charlotte sports star in the history of the sports.
- 59:15I completely agree with that. All right. So I
- 59:19didn't really have an answer for this question,
- 59:21but I kind of set myself up with the way I phrased
- 59:26this question to get this person on this and
- 59:29I didn't even know it. All right. So I'm just
- 59:32going to be upfront about that. because i didn't
- 59:35say in the question your favorite local athlete
- 59:38from charlotte or the i said the charlotte area
- 59:41so which means the surrounding area counts the
- 59:44metro all right so we'll see interesting interestingly
- 59:48enough i am going to go with a player that is
- 59:51from this area that has both been a carolina
- 59:56panther and currently a dallas cowboy I'm going
- 1:00:01with Mr. Jadavian Clowney. Born and raised in
- 1:00:06Rock Hill and played high school football as
- 1:00:10a dominating force in Rock Hill, South Point
- 1:00:14High School. I'm going to go with Jadavia and
- 1:00:16Connie in there. Of course we all remember what
- 1:00:18he did when he went and played in South Carolina.
- 1:00:20Had the highlight reel of all defensive college
- 1:00:23player highlight reels. Of all time. He was unbelievable,
- 1:00:29incredible. I wish that his professional career
- 1:00:32was a little more high end as an athlete, but
- 1:00:36I just remember how electric he was playing in
- 1:00:39South Carolina, getting drafted. He had some
- 1:00:42flashes of greatness in the pros as well, and
- 1:00:44he's still well traveled. And I mean, even being
- 1:00:47a little, having lost a step a little bit, he's
- 1:00:51still in the league now. And like I said, still
- 1:00:53currently on the roster for your Dallas Cowboys.
- 1:00:56So for me, he's just kind of the ones that kind
- 1:00:58of stuck out to me. So yeah, I'm gonna ride with
- 1:01:01Jadavia and Clowney. No, I mean, that's a phenomenal
- 1:01:04answer. I thought you was actually going to say,
- 1:01:07I wish you wouldn't have went to the Cowboys,
- 1:01:08but I still chose. No, no, no, no, no, no. I
- 1:01:12mean, it just, I mean, I'm honestly, I'm glad
- 1:01:14he's still in the league because I mean, you
- 1:01:16know what it's like, especially for aging defensive
- 1:01:18players who may have lost a step, but you know,
- 1:01:21he's a veteran player now. You know, and clearly
- 1:01:23he's got enough of a work ethic, you know, for
- 1:01:25the Cowboys to bring them in and say, you know
- 1:01:27what? Yeah, we're going to give this dude a roster
- 1:01:29spot. That means something. So yeah, I'm going
- 1:01:31to, I'm going to ride. I'm going to ride with
- 1:01:33a Rock Hills, Jadavion Clowney. No, I like, I
- 1:01:35like that answer too. And, uh, I guess I'm gonna
- 1:01:38go back around one more time since like Steph
- 1:01:41Curry was like my obvious answer. And so I'll
- 1:01:44just say this real quick. Um, I'm gonna go with
- 1:01:46Chris leak because he was, he was like, easily
- 1:01:51one of my favorite athletes of all time in this
- 1:01:54area growing up and just not, not getting to
- 1:01:58see him a whole lot, but just hearing about him
- 1:02:01and then seeing his career with going to the
- 1:02:04Florida Gators. That was like the icing on the
- 1:02:06cake for me. And so Chris league for sure. Just
- 1:02:10like his high school record is undefeated, like
- 1:02:16literally and figuratively. And he's just was
- 1:02:20a phenomenal football player. Got it. That's
- 1:02:24a really good one. That's a good one. All right.
