- 0:00Speaker 1: Joining me in the studio is the Lord Mayor of
- 0:02Speaker 1: Darwin convat Scarlets.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Good morning to you, called morning.
- 0:04Speaker 3: Kid, and I know what you're going to ask for.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Me, con do you want to do my job? I've
- 0:09Speaker 2: done it before, I know, a long time ago. Hey,
- 0:13Speaker 2: what did you think?
- 0:14Speaker 1: The Police Minister obviously confirming that she certainly made it
- 0:19Speaker 1: very clear to the police commissioner that she wants to
- 0:22Speaker 1: see more boots on the ground, more of that community
- 0:24Speaker 1: policing con It's something you've been talking about for a
- 0:27Speaker 1: while now.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Well not only that, but I'm very pleased that the
- 0:31Speaker 3: Minister came to this conclusion. It's when you meet with
- 0:35Speaker 3: seventeen council's presidents and mayors that tell you exactly the
- 0:38Speaker 3: same story. We need more police president with more police action.
- 0:42Speaker 3: And I think she heard the message very loud and clear,
- 0:45Speaker 3: and not to play politics here. When your primary vote
- 0:50Speaker 3: goes down in the by election, you realize that you're
- 0:53Speaker 3: probably in political trouble and you have to react. And
- 0:55Speaker 3: I give CREDITU Kate, thank you for doing that. You
- 1:00Speaker 3: need more police on the ground. We've got sixteen hundred
- 1:02Speaker 3: policemen and I always ask where are they? And I
- 1:05Speaker 3: understand that a people who actually spend a lot of
- 1:07Speaker 3: time with COVID nineteen and they have to take their live.
- 1:10Speaker 3: But if I was, if I was the police commissioner,
- 1:14Speaker 3: I would say, right, you got two months to clean
- 1:16Speaker 3: up Darwin completely from the riff ruff and then you
- 1:18Speaker 3: can take as much leave as you like. They've done
- 1:20Speaker 3: that in Melbourne with the cleaning up the med center
- 1:22Speaker 3: of Melbourne, establishing the bars and coffee shops and the langways.
- 1:26Speaker 3: It can be done here. But again I'm really repleaced
- 1:29Speaker 3: to happen and I'm waiting to see the action. And
- 1:32Speaker 3: I have to say that the past few days, Kate,
- 1:34Speaker 3: I've seen police in segues and we need more police
- 1:39Speaker 3: on the ground, simple as that.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Well, and it does sound as though it is certainly
- 1:43Speaker 1: high on the agenda for the Police Minister based on
- 1:46Speaker 1: that conversation this morning. I mean they're going it's by
- 1:49Speaker 1: the sounds of it, there's a full review, a full
- 1:51Speaker 1: financial review, a full restructure is not off the table,
- 1:54Speaker 1: is what she'd said to us this morning. So look,
- 1:56Speaker 1: it's going to be interesting times, There's no doubt about it.
- 2:00Speaker 2: On interesting times always for you guys.
- 2:02Speaker 1: But the water is by election over the weekend. We
- 2:04Speaker 1: know you've got a new counselor coming in.
- 2:06Speaker 3: I've got a new council king for our long term
- 2:09Speaker 3: territorial and not king. For the past thirty years. She
- 2:11Speaker 3: worked as a real estate agent. She used to have
- 2:13Speaker 3: the lucky story Nightcliff. Then now she works for Kotta.
- 2:16Speaker 3: A new pair of eyes, new brains, new ideas. Welcome abroad, Kim.
- 2:22Speaker 3: The only thing to disappointment was a very low turnover.
- 2:24Speaker 3: Once again, we've seen forty eight point three percent voting,
- 2:28Speaker 3: less than fifty percent. The only problem is that all
- 2:32Speaker 3: the rest I didn't vote probably will be the largest
- 2:33Speaker 3: to complain about things not happening.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Well, we always say no when when if you don't vote,
- 2:39Speaker 1: you're not allowed to come.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Out wins And we see that one also in the
- 2:42Speaker 3: Funny Bay by election. I mean, guys, we live in
- 2:44Speaker 3: a democracy. If you want to have a good government,
- 2:48Speaker 3: go and vote. It only takes about an hour of
- 2:50Speaker 3: your life.
- 2:50Speaker 2: You can do the shopping later.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Now, con we also know that there's been some discussion
- 2:56Speaker 1: about the parat markets and whether there could be some
- 2:58Speaker 1: change to the parat markets in two more grain space.
- 3:01Speaker 2: What do you think I mean is this going to happen.
- 3:03Speaker 2: What's the council idea.
- 3:05Speaker 3: I've seen the plans. The only snag is twelve and
- 3:08Speaker 3: a half million dollars then it required to do it.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Do they need that from the government or the council.
- 3:13Speaker 3: Well, they need that from the government the council that
- 3:15Speaker 3: I put now the kat among the pigeon. How about
- 3:18Speaker 3: the perrupt people that they operate in the markets and
- 3:21Speaker 3: they make money to the markets. Come to the party
- 3:23Speaker 3: and say we will put a levy in every person
- 3:25Speaker 3: who has a permit there to collect some money so
- 3:28Speaker 3: we can contribute to the to the market restructure. That
- 3:31Speaker 3: will probably enticice the government and the councilor to say, well,
- 3:34Speaker 3: if you're going to do that one, we will come
- 3:35Speaker 3: to the party. Admittedly, as Nevil Pandaji said, can be
- 3:38Speaker 3: done all at once, it has to be staged. And
- 3:41Speaker 3: I'm all here to hear what happens. Michael goes to
- 3:45Speaker 3: the government and the nearly elected member. That's your constitut mate,
- 3:48Speaker 3: if you want to be elected, you better start talking
- 3:50Speaker 3: to the people in the fifth floor to cover up
- 3:52Speaker 3: some money, because let's call it political survival. I've been there.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Yes, well we are going to catch up with Neville
- 3:59Speaker 1: as well a little bit later on the show this morning.
- 4:01Speaker 2: So I really came to hear from.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Here and I say that to one publicly, I have
- 4:06Speaker 3: no problem to actually start going to close that lane
- 4:08Speaker 3: where you're talking about about closing the traffic through the market.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Just get together with all the shop owners, get me
- 4:14Speaker 3: a paper that says we want to do it, or
- 4:16Speaker 3: at least we can close it on the weekends rather
- 4:19Speaker 3: for the whole period. Help to start put more tables
- 4:22Speaker 3: and chairs and umbrellas. The bitchmin that there has no
- 4:25Speaker 3: cars now that increased the amenity of the market.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Well, we'll talk more about that with Neville corn. I've
- 4:31Speaker 1: had a message come through about the velodrome. How is
- 4:33Speaker 1: it progressing? This person says that there's some issues with
- 4:36Speaker 1: the resurfacing.
- 4:37Speaker 3: No, there's no a issue that's surfacing. The only issue
- 4:40Speaker 3: we had believed or not we could find enough adult
- 4:42Speaker 3: trees or mature trees to put. Now we have twenty
- 4:46Speaker 3: two trees. And in the next few days we're spraying
- 4:49Speaker 3: the grass on the velodrome because you know it's got angles,
- 4:53Speaker 3: so we have to spray. And development will be very
- 4:55Speaker 3: very soon. Given to the sports community to use it.
- 4:58Speaker 1: So no concerns is this person said, I believe that
- 5:03Speaker 1: there was something that I was struggling to find someone
- 5:05Speaker 1: with the skills and equipment to seal the road surface
- 5:07Speaker 1: at a state angle.
- 5:08Speaker 3: It's done.
- 5:09Speaker 2: It's just there. Okay.
- 5:11Speaker 3: Actually, as a matter of fact, the engineering studi of
- 5:13Speaker 3: the university used it as an exercise.
- 5:15Speaker 2: When's it become operational?
- 5:17Speaker 3: Well, when we put the grass on, the grass started
- 5:21Speaker 3: the sublage, then we become operational.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Match else on the agenda that we should know about
- 5:26Speaker 2: this morning.
- 5:27Speaker 3: You want trees, I can give you. If anybody wants
- 5:29Speaker 3: a tree. The next giveaway will be the seventh of
- 5:32Speaker 3: September Annula Park fifth we will give another one and
- 5:36Speaker 3: a half thousand trees. We give fourteen hundred trees. Last
- 5:40Speaker 3: time in the old Macmillan Park, two hundreds of people
- 5:43Speaker 3: turned up, got the trees, planned the yard. Every tree
- 5:46Speaker 3: you plan makes the place greener. Last year we gave
- 5:49Speaker 3: nine thousand trees. This year we give you ten thousand
- 5:51Speaker 3: trees and will continue planting out the trees as well.
- 5:54Speaker 3: And we re establishing the tree committee again. Have a
- 5:58Speaker 3: look what we did the past, how successful it was.
- 6:01Speaker 3: Can would do better. So we're going to have everything
- 6:05Speaker 3: in place. Other thing, if you got things lying in
- 6:08Speaker 3: your yard, might get it together, put it out in
- 6:12Speaker 3: the front of the house because on the fifth of
- 6:15Speaker 3: September and then on the twenty sixth would be coming
- 6:17Speaker 3: around to start picking them up. But please do not
- 6:20Speaker 3: put paint fuel and get exactly food items will not
- 6:25Speaker 3: take or green waste combat scarlets.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Lord Mayor of Dowin, always good to catch up. Thanks
- 6:30Speaker 1: so much for your time this morning.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Thank you very much, Kate
