Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: You might recall a couple of weeks ago, well, the
- 0:03Speaker 1: conversation that we'd had with Christine her young girl, her
- 0:07Speaker 1: daughter Kira, had been hit with a rock at a party.
- 0:11Speaker 1: It was such a horrendous situation to see unfold in
- 0:16Speaker 1: the vision that was going around on social media. There
- 0:19Speaker 1: were so many of you who got in contact with us,
- 0:21Speaker 1: really very concerned about her family. Now joining me on
- 0:27Speaker 1: the line right now is Christine. Good morning to you.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Good morning Katie.
- 0:32Speaker 1: It's lovely to have you on the show. Christine. Can
- 0:34Speaker 1: I ask how is Kira going.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Every day? Improving? Her mobility is quite good now where
- 0:43Speaker 2: she's back at VET today, seeing how we go with concentration,
- 0:48Speaker 2: so look every day much better and how and.
- 0:52Speaker 1: You know, in terms of those injuries, like is everything
- 0:56Speaker 1: sort of healing quite well at this point.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Yes, at this point we have had the stitches out
- 1:05Speaker 2: and so and her hair's growing back. So as far
- 1:10Speaker 2: as physically, she's doing very well. Emotionally as you would imagine,
- 1:15Speaker 2: a little bit up and down, and we just have
- 1:21Speaker 2: to see now day by day how her response is neurologically,
- 1:26Speaker 2: So concentration at school, concentration at that fine point, you know,
- 1:33Speaker 2: motor skills things like that, so we don't know until
- 1:36Speaker 2: we could you test them day to day.
- 1:39Speaker 1: And Christine, what's it been like for you? I would
- 1:41Speaker 1: imagine quite like quite difficult seeing your your young girl
- 1:46Speaker 1: go through that and you know, and providing that support
- 1:49Speaker 1: to her that she needs. Yeah.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Look, we're a pretty resilient bunch. She I think we've
- 1:58Speaker 2: just lived through it. You know, it's it's occurred, and
- 2:01Speaker 2: we've just reacted day to day as we've needed to.
- 2:05Speaker 2: The shock in community has been, you know, something that
- 2:09Speaker 2: I've been really aware of, Like, we have so many
- 2:12Speaker 2: friendship groups and family groups and their shock has just been,
- 2:16Speaker 2: you know, quite incredible, and it is, it is really shocking.
- 2:21Speaker 2: I guess just being in it is a completely different experience.
- 2:24Speaker 2: And we're just doing the do really.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Yeah, just getting through the best that you can.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I had a couple of rough days last week,
- 2:33Speaker 2: but I'm back at work and back on track and
- 2:36Speaker 2: feeling stronger. Just waiting now to see you know, there's
- 2:41Speaker 2: physio appointments, there's OT appointments, there's rehab appointments, there's doctor appointments,
- 2:48Speaker 2: there's neurosurgeon appointments. The physio and OT are going to
- 2:54Speaker 2: be weekly, so it's all just you know, follow up
- 2:59Speaker 2: now and just for it seeing how she reacts to everything.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Now, Christine, can you tell me is has there been
- 3:05Speaker 1: much of an update when it comes to you know,
- 3:08Speaker 1: what had actually gone on in terms of that rock
- 3:11Speaker 1: being thrown and you know, on what had happened as
- 3:14Speaker 1: those gate crashes were at the party.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Oh look, Katie, there's stories everywhere. As you can imagine,
- 3:21Speaker 2: we have an idea what happened, but it's still it's
- 3:26Speaker 2: stilling being investigated. So we still don't have any answers
- 3:30Speaker 2: seventeen days later, which can be quite frustrating, but we
- 3:35Speaker 2: have to believe in the process.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Now, Christine, the thing that I found so lovely last
- 3:41Speaker 1: time you and I spoke is we we were honestly
- 3:44Speaker 1: inundated with messages, with phone calls, with people just getting
- 3:48Speaker 1: in contact with us, you know, who were just concerned
- 3:52Speaker 1: obviously about you and about Kira, but there was also
- 3:57Speaker 1: you know, to everyone, there was all also the likes
- 4:00Speaker 1: of Kesier Purick, who'd been in contact with us, who
- 4:04Speaker 1: was like, do you know what I want to buy
- 4:05Speaker 1: them dinner? Or I want to do something to help?
- 4:07Speaker 2: God, I can't wait for that dinner coming very much.
- 4:12Speaker 1: And I know that you know that, even Shelley, the
- 4:14Speaker 1: wonderful Shelley out there at Zicoli, I GA, what's that
- 4:19Speaker 1: been like for you? You know, as the community sort
- 4:21Speaker 1: of rallied around in a way that you probably didn't
- 4:24Speaker 1: realize that they would.
- 4:26Speaker 2: No, And we did put it on social media, Shelley
- 4:31Speaker 2: arriving with how many DAGs hued for us last week?
- 4:35Speaker 2: And that was really emotional and as she said, you
- 4:38Speaker 2: know when she writes from one mother to another, so
- 4:41Speaker 2: sorry emotional it was. It was just amazing the kindness
- 4:47Speaker 2: and the thoughtfulness, and her young son was an amazing
- 4:51Speaker 2: young man and helped carry it all into the house
- 4:53Speaker 2: and it was just it was just incredible, very very grateful.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Christine. Honestly, don't apologize for being emotional, because I was
- 5:02Speaker 1: a bloody mess watching that video, watching you two women,
- 5:07Speaker 1: and I you know, I know, Shelley, I've not I
- 5:11Speaker 1: don't think i've met you personally before, but honestly, I
- 5:14Speaker 1: was I was a mess watching that thinking exactly the
- 5:18Speaker 1: same thing, you know, as a mum. And yeah, and
- 5:22Speaker 1: two wonderful people, you know, helping helping each other out,
- 5:27Speaker 1: and and again I think that that's the way that
- 5:30Speaker 1: the whole community has felt, is that you were so
- 5:32Speaker 1: incredibly strong when we spoke to you on the radio,
- 5:35Speaker 1: and you continue to be and I think that, you know,
- 5:38Speaker 1: I just think it's really important that you know that
- 5:40Speaker 1: the whole community is thinking of you and your daughter,
- 5:43Speaker 1: and certainly you know, really really hoping that she's able
- 5:48Speaker 1: to make a speedy recovery.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Thank you, Katie, thank you, we will she's on it.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Oh you guys are legends and I'd love to love
- 5:56Speaker 1: to meet you both one day, but particularly love to
- 5:59Speaker 1: meet Hira. Christine. I'm really I am pleased to hear
- 6:03Speaker 1: that things are going pretty well. Please pass on all
- 6:06Speaker 1: of our love and best wishes too, Kira. I really
- 6:09Speaker 1: hope that she's going well. Thank you for.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Having a chack. Thank you everyone, Thank you.
- 6:14Speaker 1: And thanks for keeping us up to day. Thanks Christine.
- 6:17Speaker 1: All see
